Abstract This article explores youth career decision-making at a time of ongoing concerns surrounding the supply of labour to the hospitality industry. This article is unique in its combination of attitudes of Generation Z with a pre-university-aged sample combined with employer views. A survey of 245 youth provided insights into work values and attitudes towards hospitality careers, which was complemented by interviews with nine hospitality employers. Findings indicate only a small percentage of youth consider hospitality employment an attractive option. However, this insight must be tempered by an acknowledgement of participants' early, exploratory phase of career development, by the fact that other occupations were equally not regarded in particularly high esteem, and the important role capability considerations played in assessing career options. Beyond a focus on personal development, there was little indication of homogeneity regarding work values. Employer interviews supported the notion of an 'ignorance barrier' in relation to youth seeking hospitality employment. The UK hospitality sector is increasingly concerned with addressing the 'image' of the industry as an attractive career choice, and this research underlines the importance of industry working together with education partners to promote the opportunities and address negative perceptions.

With youth unemployment rising and government cuts across the country impacting on support services for young people, the Youth Employability Service in Brighton and Hove has adopted a broad approach to engagement, offering services to young people in both an online and offline context. This article uses the Youth Employability Service as a case study, demonstrating the success that integrating face-to-face work with online engagement opportunities has had on the service, and arguing that a blended approach to delivering services for young people is vital for the future of careers work.

Combining work while attending college is a common strategy for youth with limited financial means to pursue postsecondary education. However, we know relatively little about the socioeconomic contexts behind the different work and school decisions and whether the meaning of each work and school experience vary by different socioeconomic backgrounds. Following a national sample of young adults, this study explored how personal financial responsibilities and parental social support are associated with employment or enrollment in college and youths’ perceived relevance of them for their prospective careers. Youths’ personal financial responsibilities were associated with higher odds of working only and combining school and work, compared to attending college only. Youths’ personal financial responsibilities were positively linked to the career relevance of their work and school experiences, but only when they were experiencing low parental social support.

The purpose of this article is to explore how creative competencies acquired through involvement in music and style-based youth cultures are being converted by young people into DIY (do-it-yourself) careers. This term, as applied here, covers a range of alternative and do-it-yourself modes of work and employment not governed by the acquisition of formal qualifications and training, but, rather, grounded in knowledge and practical know-how acquired through participation in music and style-based youth cultures and associated consumption, leisure and lifestyle practices. The article examines how the emergence of the DIY career can be placed in the context of the collapse of the youth labour market and the increasingly precarious position in which young people find themselves. It also argues that, given the increasing emphasis among youth (and indeed post-youth individuals) placed on the significance of music as a source of DIY career-making, some redefinition of the term DIY music-making and the sphere of DIY creative practice is necessary, particularly in respect of its relationship to more mainstream cultural industries and the related concept of the ‘creative city’.

Анотація:

The purpose of our paper is to derive the priority of the support policy for youth NEET. To this end, the youth NEET policy was summarized through the analysis of overseas youth NEET support policies and youth knit support policies of the domestic central and local governments, and based on this, the priority policy for youth NEET was sought through expert Delphi survey. As a result of the study, the most important prerequisite in the direction of youth NEET policy is the training program (Skills Link, Career Focus, Summer Work Experience, etc.) that has been operated with the aim of finding and maintaining jobs by helping young people accumulate skills and careers. Second, peer-to-peer support policies are necessary for the resolution of youth NEETs. Through this study, it is of practical significance in that it sought a direction to effectively realize the policy by seeking support policies necessary for youth NEET and clarifying the priorities of necessary policies.

Since the beginning of modern labor markets, formal and informal activities have coexisted alongside each other. However, most of the traditional approaches to informality are not fully able to explain the multiple forms by which this phenomenon manifests itself today in certain contexts. Informality in Latin American societies, particularly in Argentina, is heuristically revelatory for illustrating the need for a more complex definition and less rigid theoretical classifications. The main purpose of this article is to contribute to an empirical analysis about informality by addressing two points. First, the article provides a better understanding of the heterogeneous nature of informality—“involuntary” or “voluntary” informal work, “half-formal/half-informal” work—in the field of youth employment. Second, in connection with debates about the sources of informality, the article explores the hypothesis of the existence of state-created informality. The article illustrates these points at different levels: youth careers, employers’ recruitment strategies, and states policies. This perspective seems useful for identifying the actors involved, acknowledging the blurry boundaries between diverse informal situations, and understanding actors’ uses of them. The points are illustrated by evidence from a qualitative and longitudinal study on youth employment careers in Argentina. The article concludes with a discussion about some key issues of informality, such as legality, regulation and agency.

Only recently have researchers begun thoroughly examining the role of youth music cultures and subcultures in participants’ ‘adult’ lives, suggesting that participation does not end with an abrupt transition to adulthood. Significantly, how subcultural experience translates into work skills and job opportunities needs further investigation. Based upon interviews and participant observation with older straight edgers – clean-living punks associated with the hardcore music scene – over the course of five years, this article examines subcultural entrepreneurs, in particular straight edgers, who have used DIY experiences to start businesses or advance careers. I first examine how involvement in DIY scenes can influence choice of career; many participants chose work reflective of their DIY values and/or created their own career. Next, I discuss how participants’ DIY dispositions influence their work, including tolerance for risk, confidence, self-reliance, and adaptability. I then demonstrate how participants translate scene experience into useful and marketable skills, including management, organization, marketing, and job-specific proficiencies.

Although children born with perinatally acquired HIV (PHIV) are now living into adulthood, little is known about their transition into the workforce and the ways they develop career aspirations. In this phenomenological study, 35 youth with PHIV (mean age 20.7) completed semistructured interviews regarding their career aspirations which were transcribed and coded for emergent themes using grounded theory. Approximately half of the participants were employed at the time of the interview. Sixteen participants aspired to work in helping professions. Others sought employment in the arts or business sector. Participants indicated that parents/guardians and medical providers were generally supportive of their career interests. Providers and social workers often helped them find jobs and construct resumes. Thirteen participants indicated that their HIV status had little impact on their career aspirations. Others believed HIV-related challenges related to transmission, physical difficulties, and emotional turmoil limited their ability to pursue certain careers. Several felt inspired to fight against HIV-related stigma/discrimination. It is important to encourage youth with PHIV to prepare for their future by routinely holding conversations regarding their career goals.

The purpose of this research was to explore the meaning and experiences of the long-term careers of youth workers. This study selected a Western Australian sample group of 10 degreequalified youth workers who had graduated between 1990 and 1999 and had experienced careers in youth work spanning 20 years. The existing literature pertaining to long-term youth work careers was sparse in certain aspects, which established the primary need for the research focus. The related literature was found to represent a negative image of youth work as a career. Youth work was considered lacking in professional identity and was most commonly characterised by burnout, temporary employment prospects and an occupational pathway to other related professions. The deficits and barriers to retention and career longevity prompted the question: How does this explain those individuals who have forged a long-term career in youth work? Two research methods were used in this study: phenomenological inquiry, to seek the shared experiences of the youth work career, and grounded theory methods, to examine the extent to which the self-concept theory of career development and the life career rainbow model could be applied to improve understanding of youth work as a long-term career. The study found important differences in comparison with findings of the existing literature. Participants described careers characteristic of continuous employment; sustainability through supportive connections; longevity through leadership opportunities; and a diverse fusion of opportunities, variety and flexibility in roles undertaken. In stark contrast with the existing literature, these findings led to the development of a synthesised provisional model of the long-term youth work career. Key contributions to knowledge from the study include a constructive representation of the long-term youth work career, with significant factors of longevity being continuous employment, leadership opportunities, diversity in roles and workplaces, and supportive connections. Appraisal of career theory also resulted in suggested revisions to the self-concept theory of career development and the life career rainbow model. A provisional model of the long-term youth work career was developed, which was synthesised from the findings and key discussion points of this study. The provisional model reflected the youth work career as a knowledge-based profession, a distinct practice, a sustainable profession and a long-term career prospect. The findings also have potential implications for the youth field, particularly individual and organisational ethical practice, the importance of workplace and role flexibility, the inclusivity of youth work contexts, and the prioritisation of professional supervision and mentoring.

Cette thèse analyse le processus de construction des parcours professionnels des jeunes à un moment clé : celui de la fin de la formation secondaire ou professionnelle. Nous cherchons à comprendre la manière dont les parcours professionnels des jeunes résidents à la Région Nord du Grand Buenos Aires en Argentine se construisent dans un contexte de transformations historiques profondes. Ces transformations se manifestent par un monde productif plus flexible, instable et précaire pour les nouvelles générations, par l’affaiblissement des principales institutions de la socialisation comme la famille et l’école et par des mutations des temporalités sociales et individuelles. L’objectif est atteint par la mise en place d’une recherche qualitative et longitudinale qui suit pendant deux ans les parcours professionnels d’un panel de jeunes hommes et femmes qui sortent au même moment, en 2006, des formations différenciées (secondaire et professionnelle dans des institutions du secteur public et privé). Nous abordons dans un premier temps la place des rapports à la vie professionnelle dans les parcours. Nous insistons ensuite sur la recherche des explications complémentaires qui dépassent la sphère professionnelle : les temporalités des jeunes apparaissent ainsi comme un autre facteur pertinent. Variables d’origine, pratiques, rapports symboliques et temporalités jouent un rôle différent selon la manière dont ils sont articulés entre eux. Nous soutenons enfin que c’est la manière dont les facteurs s’imbriquent entre eux (abordée ici sous la dénomination de « séquences professionnelles ») une clé de lecture fondamentale pour analyser la part de hétérogénéité, singularité et inégalité dans l’actuelle construction des parcours professionnels des jeunes
This dissertation sets out to analyze the construction process of employment careers among youth who have finished high school. We seek to understand how youth in the northern suburbs of Buenos Aires, Argentina build their employment careers in a context of deep transformations. This transformations are characterized by a more flexible, unstable and precarious production and employment model, the weakening of important socializing institutions — the family and the school — as well as the emergence of new forms of social and individual usage of time. How are these careers influenced by the context they are inscribed in? What new theoretical elements can this case contribute to classical analyses of employment careers? The data was drawn from a two-year qualitative longitudinal study that followed 84 young women and men who graduated from differents types of educations of high school in 2006. For instance, an analysis of “work dispositions” among the panel revealed the weight of certain symbolic factors and their relations to labor practices. Furthermore, other factors such as “youth temporalities” highlight the importance of considering elements that are found beyond the sphere of employment. Finally, it is the way that these factors are intertwined that is most interesting, since it offers us the possibility of establishing causality. The concept of “employment sequence” allows us to follow the way these factors become enmeshed. We are then able to identify heterogeneity, singularity and inequality in the processes of differentiation of employment careers among youth

The study identified the contributions families made to the work-readiness of youth with learning disabilities. A qualitative research approach, the in-depth telephone interview, was the primary information-gathering instrument. Two questions were posed to guide the study: 1.What communications or behaviors do families engage in within the contexts of the home, school, workplace, and community that contribute to the work readiness of youth with learning disabilities? 2. What value do these families place on their roles in the development of their youngster's work readiness? Families from the Commonwealth of Virginia were nominated by parent resource center directors as meeting the criteria established for the study. A total of 27 individuals were "purposefully selected" to be interviewed. The participants were family members of employed youth, age 16 to 22, with documented learning disabilities. Telephone interviews were taped, transcribed, coded, and analyzed using Ethnograph and a three-step coding process. A description of major themes and subthemes which emerged from the analysis was presented in narrative and table form. Participant statements were used to illustrate the themes. Participants identified 29 critical work-readiness skills they perceived youth would need for workplace success. These work-readiness skills supported six themes: human relations, work ethic, compoliance, personal qualities, education and training, and independence. Participants identified the various activities, behaviors, and conversations they engaged in to promote work-readiness in their children within four setting: the homes, school, workplace, and community. These actions were analyzed within and among the four settings, and in relation to the themes established. The themes of education and training and independence were the most prevalent. The family's responsibilities for and abilities to develop work-readiness skills were examined, and the types of assistance they had accessed or believed other families could benefit from were identified. Stakeholder groups and their roles and responsibilities in the collaborative effort to develop work skills were identified. Stakeholder roles included provider, teacher, facilitator, nurturer, communicator, and preparer. Participants reflected on the process of preparing youth with learning disabilities for work, determined what they would do differently, and offered advise on work-readiness skill development to other families of children with learning disabilities.

Adolescence is crucial for career development, as youth begin to engage in activities to prepare for their careers. However, at-risk and rural youth may face barriers to developing useful career traits like career adaptability and work hope. One barrier is insufficient parental support. Parental support is associated with the development of skills and characteristics that promote career success (Keller & Whiston, 2008). However, certain personal and social variables, including grit and mentoring relationships, may help youth succeed despite inadequate parental support. Additionally, programs that engage at-risk youth in work-related tasks and experiences may help youth develop positive career trajectories. Therefore, youth work programs must be evaluated, given their potential to impact career development. The research involved 106 youth ages 14-23 who participated in summer work-training programs. Participants took a pretest, posttest, and 3-month follow-up to examine change in program goals over time, and identify relationships and personal characteristics that can help youth develop career adaptability and work hope. Study one examined outcomes consistent with program goals to assess program effectiveness. Linear regression analyses showed that worksite performance only increased for those who had previously worked, such that those with more previous work experience had greater improvement in worksite performance. Multilevel models showed a significant or marginally significant increase in understanding the value of school and career adaptability over time. No significant increase was found for leadership and work hope. T-tests showed worksite supervisors scored the quality of their mentoring relationship with participants significantly higher than participants, and regression analyses showed participant perceptions of the mentoring relationship did not predict the continuity of the relationship three months later. The second study focused on personal characteristics and social relationships that are related to career adaptability and work hope. Multilevel models showed parental support and grit significantly positively predicted career adaptability and work hope. Grit moderated the relation between parent support and career adaptability, but not parent support and work hope. No findings were significant regarding perceived mentoring relationship or changes over time. The discussion focuses on program effectiveness, future directions, ways to improve programming, and ways to promote career traits.

This system places youth at the center and is designed as an empowering network, which ultimately advances partnerships for the goals, in line with SDG 17. But because we don’t just build maps, we build mappers- the result of this ecosystem also expands the capacity for students to advance to decent work and contribute to the economic growth in their careers and of their countries. We present here some of the voices of students, alumni, staff, and partners to describe this enabling ecosystem from their own perspectives.

AbstractThe pressure is high on career educators to develop information literacies as a life skill for themselves as well as for youth, particularly those from disadvantaged communities, and to document and process career information in a rapidly changing world of work that is relevant to their sociocultural and environmental contexts. We employ a critical or transformative approach to information literacies to explore young people’s socially situated practices of collecting, validating, and processing career information as well as how they might “democratically transform structures of authority over information exchanges, and then maintain scrutiny over this authority” (Whitworth A, Radical information literacy: reclaiming the political heart of the IL movement. Elsevier, 2014, p. 2). We draw from qualitative interviews with ten boys studying in 10th grade at a government school in Delhi, India, and videos produced by them to map their career information landscapes. Using an education for sustainable development lens, “bumps” were made visible in their information landscapes, that is, the tensions that emerge between multiple informational actors for reimagining sustainable futures. We suggest that these tensions can serve as cultural resources that students can democratically engage with in developing crucial career and life skills for their futures.

AbstractThe goal of the study is to explore the unemployment challenge for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) youth in comparison with other Gulf countries. The chapter uses multiple data sources to provide a complex analysis of recent dynamics and the current situation of school-to-work transition among Emirati youth. The empirical part of the analysis provides the rear information on actual career paths and challenges for youth to find their first job. Skills shortages and lack of professional qualities are among the frequently named reasons for not getting a job. For young women, such obstacles as family responsibilities and geographical restriction of job search are reported. Young men find jobs much faster than women. The main channels of job search for the Emiratis are personal liaisons and university contacts.

In 1924, when Trix was fifty-six years old, she was recalled from exile. Jack, sixty-six years old and in declining health, allowed Trix back into the Fleming home in Edinburgh. She was at first treated as if she were incompetent, but she eventually demonstrated that she was not only capable and coherent, but charming and witty. She nursed but also teased and subtly tortured Jack through his final years of ill health. She mourned the death of her brother in 1936 and the loss of her husband in 1942. With Rudyard’s death, Trix became a valued resource for Kipling biographers. When Jack died, she was liberated from the unsatisfying roles of companion and nursemaid. Having outlived her brother and husband, she created her final extravagant persona—playful, garrulous, and eccentric old lady. Trix died on October 25th 1948 at the age of 80. Trix characterized much of her life as a waste, but it was not entirely so. Her contributions to the Psychic Research Society were important to their work, her editorial and critical support for her friend, Maud Diver was crucial to the composition of her many popular novels, and her early collaboration and life-long encouragement to her brother provided him with sustenance throughout his illustrious career. Her brilliant talk embellished by quotations and ornamented with wit and devilish humor was well remembered by the many who called her “Aunt Trix” and the many others fortunate enough to have shared her company. But her life was a waste of a brilliant literary gift. Trix had talent, originality, perhaps even genius, but these alone were not enough to secure success. Without the inner resources of self-love, confidence, and persistence she could not persevere through the distractions, frustrations, and vexations of a literary career. She was able to tend to her talent when it burst forth precociously, almost spontaneously, in youth. But as an adult, lacking in internal strength, she needed external support to nurture her gift, and that she did not have. On the contrary, she had to contend with societal disapproval, parental pressure, and spousal incomprehension. She was no match for this much opposition, and her art, blossoming early, withered before it reached full flower.

The Australian Government and industry groups have been discussing the projected “skills shortage” for a number of years. This concern for the future is mirrored in many countries including the USA and the UK where the risk is not having sufficient skilled people to realise the projects being proposed. Growing tertiary qualified practicing engineers takes time and commitment but without the excitement of the possibility of such a career being seeded in the youth of the world, school leavers won’t be attracted to engineering in sufficient numbers. In response, one successful model for exciting school children about engineering and science careers is the international F1inSchools Technology Challenge which was created in the UK in 2002 and implemented in Australia in 2003. It is now run in over 300 Australian Schools and 33 countries. In the Australian context, the program is managed and promoted by the Reengineering Australia Foundation. It is supported and fostered through a range of regional hubs, individual schools and some exceptional teachers. Presented in this paper are some perspectives drawn particularly from the Australian experience with the program over 10 years — which by any measure has been outstanding. The F1inSchools model has been designed specifically through its association with Formula One racing to attract the intrinsic interests of students. It is based on the fundamentals of action learning. Role models and industry involvement are utilised as motivation modifiers in students from Years 5 to 12. While immersing children in project based learning, the program explicitly encourages them to engage with practicing mentors taking them on a journey outside their normal classroom experience. In this program, students have the opportunity to use the design and analysis tools that are implemented in high technology industries. Their experience is one of reaching into industry and creative exploration rather than industry reaching down to them to play in a constrained and artificial school based environment. Anecdotally F1inSchools has been very successful in positively influencing career choices. With the aim of objectively assessing the impact of the program, doctoral research has been completed. Some key findings from this work are summarized and reported in this paper. The children involved truly become excited as they utilise a vehicle for integration of learning outcomes across a range of educational disciplines with a creative design focus. This enthusiasm flows to reflective thought and informed action in their career choice. As a result of F1inSchools, students are electing to follow engineering pathways and they will shape tomorrow’s world.

Background: In 8000 BC, at the time when agriculture was discovered, the world's population was around 10 million. Over a long period, the population increased slowly. It took all of human history, until around 1800, for the world's population to reach one billion. Then the industrial revolution happened. People no longer died young. The increase in the number of inhabitants accelerated. Today, 8 billion people live on Earth. Methods and Objectives: Background and data were obtained by looking at the work of Hans Rosling and Stephen Shaw's documentary "Birthgap-Childless World"; as well as the internet portals Small Circles Forward and Gravitas Plus: "World is One News". Are we living in the most populous time on the planet? What caused the huge increase in people who suffer from "unplanned childlessness"? Results: Throughout history, there was an average of about six babies born per woman. It is specific to humans as a species. In 1965, the number of children born per woman dropped to five. Now it's about 2.5 and still going down. An educated woman chooses to have significantly fewer children. Her time is worth money, and having children could negatively affect her career and income. Women are now waiting longer to get married and have their first child, and they are spacing pregnancies more apart. Access to legal and safe abortions contributes to further declines in the birth rate. The world welcomes people who delay parenthood. This becomes a cultural phenomenon and spreads. Mass aging of society is inevitable. All the places in the world that, decade after decade, have been well below the required birth rate are on the way to population decline. Conclusions : It is necessary to point out to young people the short duration of the "age of fertility"! The period of life spent in education and commitment to a career must be coordinated with the period of family and offspring formation. Society needs to make parenting worthwhile again.

The outflow of personnel, the imbalance in the human system, the low level of employment of graduates of vocational education, youth unemployment – all this is a serious problem, particularly due to lack of demand and the low prestige of the profession in a given place and time. This problem requires close attention from the educational authorities to the issues of career guidance, including in terms of its orientation on the basis of the economic state of the labor market.

Healthcare organisations worldwide have faced lack of nursing personnel in recent years. Health care assistant as profession has been primarily promoted by educational institutions, however they no longer suffice present demand. Therefore, healthcare workers encourage the young, primarily to choose the career of health care assistant and possible continuation of education at the undergraduate nursing program. At General Hospital Murska Sobota we produced a short film as an innovative approach to promote the profession in order to acquaint the young, who are still uncertain of their career, with everyday work of health care assistant at various hospital departments. We invited students at Secondary School of Nursing Murska Sobota to partake in the film, which resulted in their active involvement. The film is displayed at information days at previously mentioned school and at the “job market” organised by primary schools at Pomurje region. The film is very well accepted and aids the young who have not yet chosen their career path. Our vision is to approach the promotion of the career of health care assistant ourselves since determination of career is one of the most significant decisions in a lifetime and to encourage the youth to choose the career of future nursing profession.

Sports can be diverse – dual career, sports for the general public, youth sports, and other levels. However, the level of general education schools is vital, as it is compulsory in the Latvian education system. Thus, for approximately 70% of Latvian children and young people, sports lessons are the only places to do sports. The study’s author has analyzed the “Sport everyone in the class” project organized by the Latvian Olympic Committee. The essence of the project is related to additional sports activities that depend on the capabilities of the particular school – both in terms of infrastructure and human resources. A quantitative and qualitative survey method has been performed. Data were obtained from 26 schools participating in the project. Number of respondents – students – n-582. The author analyzed the impact of additional sports activities on students’ work ethic, learning achievements, physical fitness, etc. Data were processed using the Windows SPSS program. It is concluded that students improve their ability to concentrate and complete the learning process and their eating habits. In qualitative surveys – interviews with school management, it was found that this type of process is recommended for all educational institutions because the benefits are more than the negative factors.

The workshop aims to show the methodes used for the developing of the transversal Skill Generator Assessment Game. The objectives are: - Enhancing digital integration in learning, teaching, training and youth work at various levels; - Promoting entrepreneurship education and social entrepreneurship among young people. The workshop describes the steps for developing an ICT-based education tool simulating real life situations in order to support apprentices/VET students to enhance and foster transversal skills needed by the current labor market. The score system embedded within the e-learning tool, instead, will provide a structure for the assessment of the skills developed. Due to the current labour market changes, there is a clear tendency towards the broadening of the required skills portfolio at all occupational levels, linked to "non-routine" tasks. For example, ICT professionals have to develop skills in marketing or management; services workers have to develop customer-oriented skills and digital literacy or tourism services professionals have to look for new ways to attract interest by potential clients. In many knowledge-intensive sectors, skills as managerial and scientific knowledge are in fact more and more frequently needed. This reflects the growing demand from employers for transversal key competences. These personal attributes enhance an individual's interactions, job performance and career prospects. The transversal skills are crucial for employees themselves as well. There are many youngsters choosing self-employment as an alternative option to the regular employment. Young people still in education or training have not yet acquired the necessary knowledge and experiences or skills needed to decide whether the self-employment is suitable as their future career. While hard skills include job specific knowledge, transversal skills relate to a person's ability to interact effectively with co-workers and customers and are broadly applicable both in and outside the workplace, such as problem-solving, analytical skills, self-management and communication skills and stress management skills. Beside the regular entrepreneurial courses focused on economy, business planning, financial management etc. it is crucial for these young people to develop transversal skills, promoting ones creativity, innovativeness, ability to work in team or communication skills. As the output will be an e-learning prodct will run within the Moodle e-learning platform as LMS providing an infrastructure for MOOC.

The aim of this work is to investigate learning motivation peculiarities of rural unemployed people that are unready for labor market. Research object – learning motivation. Research methods: analysis of scientific literature, anonymous questionnaire survey, qualitative and statistic data analysis. Chi square criteria (χ2), significance level p < 0.05 are applied for comparison of results. 76 people unready for labor market in Šakiai region participate in this research: 32 of them are young people under 25 years of age, 18 – returnees from imprisonment, 26 – disabled persons; 36 men and 40 women. Majority of respondents have secondary education, however, only 11.1 % of all returnees from imprisonment are in this group. The researched of all the three groups give preference to the second – modern definition of career. Labor Exchange Office or their own decisions have impact on the respondents mostly. It is worth pointing out that Labor Exchange Office has stronger impact on the disabled (57.7 %) while the youth under 25 tend to decide themselves (53.1 %). Other factors do not have significant influence. The first four learning motives are the most significant to all the three groups of the researched, the least attractive motives are „I am studying for prestige“ and „Random circumstances determined intention to study“. It is unexpected that the motive „I intend to go to further education “is of little importance for the young people. People with disabilities and former prisoners have stronger motivation to learn than unemployed young people under 25 do. Hypothesis is only partly approved – the differences between the groups are not significant and statistically unreliable.

Social entrepreneurs play an important role in the economic and social development of the communities in which they operate. The career aspiration of social entrepreneurs can be encouraged if youths are given early educa-tional exposure when they are young. The purpose of this paper is to work out the proposal for study curriculum in order to include a subject of social entrepreneurship. To attain this aim, the following tasks were put forward: (1) to research literature regarding social entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship education; (2) to describe the empiri-cal research methodology; (3) to discuss research results; (4) to propose a module for teaching social entrepreneurship to business students. These tasks account for the structure of the article: introduction, literature review, methodology, results and discussion, conclusions and recommendations. The theoretical basis of the current article consists of recent literature on the social entrepreneurship (taking into account Covid-19 circumstances), social entrepreneurship educa-tion, as well as of the legal documents of the Republic of Latvia. The empirical research is bipartite – first, a survey of business students, applying the snowball sampling method, using 5-point Likert scale questionnaire, second, a survey of business school lecturers. The results are interpreted using methods of descriptive and inferential statistics – mean ranking and Kruskal Wallis test. The results of the research have a practical value, as they identify the problematic areas of business education in regard to social entrepreneurship and make it possible to offer a practical solution – an insert module of social entrepreneurship.

As part of the Youth Participation and Employment (YPE) programme, Oxfam’s partner INJAZ works to bridge the skills gap between the educational system and the changing needs of the labour market in Jordan. Oxfam supports the INJAZ internship programme, which aims to integrate young people into private-sector companies in order to help inform their future career choices. For many young people who participate in the programme, their internship is a stepping-stone to full employment. This case study presents examples of young people who enrolled in the scheme, enhanced their skills, and found a job. Though the uncertainty caused by COVID-19 has affected the pace of recruitment, Oxfam and INJAZ are still working tirelessly to achieve the programme’s mission.
