Established in 1960, the Museum van het Boek is known for its holdings and exhibitions of Western book art from the last 110 years. Building on the starter collections of two donors, a private printer and a bibliophile, the Museum’s acquisitions now focus mainly on modern book art. More than 25,000 of the 450,000 objects in the Museum are books showing the development of standard Dutch publishing, the work of individual book illustrators, type designers and calligraphers, contemporary Dutch private presses and artists’ books. There is also considerable foreign material, notably from Germany and Great Britain.

This study starts with the premise that changes in consumption methods, production of various digital contents, the emergence of new generations, and the spread of new media inevitably change the publishing industry amid the advancement of the digital age, and starts with a question of how e-books, audio-books, and chat-books are accepted by users. The conclusions of this study are as follows. First, it was found that expectations for service quality had a positive (+) effect on service quality performance in all e-book, audio-book, and chat-book platforms. Second, in the case of e-books and audio-books, service quality expectations had a negative (-) effect on the expected mismatch, while chat-books did not show a significant influence relationship. Third, it was found that service quality performance had a positive (+) effect on expectation mismatch in all e-book, audio-book, and chat-book platforms. Fourth, in the case of audio-books and chat-books, service quality performance had a positive (+) effect on platform satisfaction, while e-books did not show a significant influence relationship. Fifth, in the case of e-books and audio-books, expectation mismatch had a positive (+) effect on platform satisfaction, while chat-books did not show a significant influence relationship. Finally, it was found that platform satisfaction had a positive (+) effect on reuse intention in all e-books, audio-books, and chat-books. It is expected that this study will be used as an initial data comparing and analyzing the satisfaction and reuse intention of e-book, audio-book, and chat-book platforms based on the expectancy disconfirmation theory, and will serve as a meaningful stepping stone for future research.

Анотація:
With the development of society and the improvement of material conditions for Chinese people's lives in the 21st century, parents are increasingly willing to invest more money in books to educate their children. Consequently, the children's book market in China is becoming more and more prosperous. As an essential component of China’s publishing industry, the children's book publishing sector is very competitive. However, many problems have emerged behind the boom. This research aims to investigate various challenges amidst this growth by analyzing existing literature and comparing data. It is found that there are three significant problems, including the circulation of books that are not conducive to children’s physical and mental development, publishers engaging in repetitive behaviors solely for profitability, and parents’ excessive concern about education leading them to overly scrutinize seemingly innocuous books. This research also aims to offer targeted suggestions for addressing these problems.

The perception of a book as an architectonical construction is a well-known fact. We could use the stage as a metaphor for the book, or, in other concepts the book becomes the equivalent of an exhibition space or even replaces it. In all these metaphoric circumlocutions the book not only reproduces content, but itself functions as an exhibition place, a stage, or another conception of space. Curiously enough, the consideration of the material aspects of books are taken into account at a time when digitalisation seems to dissolve the material body of books and, while theory makes it clear that texts and books are not equivalent. Therefore the question of what characterises a book is raised again. This question must take into account the variety of different approaches to books throughout the centuries. The perception of the book and, moreover, its relation with the user or reader becomes visible mainly through material aspects. The awareness of the spatial dimension of a book goes back to at least the Medieval period or even earlier.

<p>The research intended to identify current trends in research on e-books. Specifically it aimed to know the facets of e-books attended to by the research published during 2016. It also intended to review significant results and their supportive or contradictory nature with reference to each other.</p><p>For this review research literature on e-books was searched from LISA, Emerald, Ebsco, Google Scholar and other databases using the statement ‘e-books OR ebooks’. The query was restricted to journal articles published in English language during January to December 2016. The review finds that the focus of current research on e-books is clearly on usage of e-books. Themes such as e-book collection development and management; search and discovery are also paid more attention to. Usage of e-books by children is emerging as a prominent area of e-book research. Designing of e-books and e-book reading devices are also topics of interest to e-book researchers. Many non-LIS disciplines and professions have interest in researching e-books. </p><p> </p>

The article analyzes book publishing, book distribution in Germany. Some features and tendencies of development of the German book industry in the modern period are covered. The article analyzes the geography of large publishing centers, shows German publishing houses that have their own history, traditions, market segment, publish books in the relevant field of knowledge, and finally have their own philosophy. Export markets of German books, problems of distribution of editions abroad are considered. Book market segments are highlighted. The role and place of e-book publishing, audiobook sector, e-book are clarified in the general system of the book industry. The features of book distribution, sales volumes of the largest publishers of Germany, specifics of activity of book trade networks are shown.

Анотація:
This study aims to determine the suitability of the content of biology textbooks for class XI SMA to the curriculum 2013. The type of research used is descriptive research with a qualitative approach and uses content/document analysis methods. The subject of this research is a biology textbook for class XI high school with cell material consisting of 3 books to be analyzed by researchers, namely the book publisher Bumi Aksara, the book publisher Erlangga, and the book publisher Grafindo Media Pratama. The research instrument used was an analysis sheet of student books based on the Curriculum 2013 Implementation Assistance Activity Guidelines. The results showed that the level of conformity of the content of biology textbooks based on: (1) SKL aspects in books A and B was 93% (very appropriate), and book C was 87% (very suitable). (2) Aspects of Core Competence for book A are 92% (very suitable), and books B and C are 83% (appropriate). (3) Aspects of Basic Competence for Book A 96% (very suitable), book B 85% (very suitable), book C 89% (very suitable). (4) Aspects of Sufficiency of Material for book A 67% (appropriate), books B and C for 50% (not appropriate). (5) Aspect of Material Depth of Book A 75% (appropriate), book B 68% (appropriate), and Book C 71% (appropriate). (6) Aspects of the Scientific Approach of books A, B, and C by 100% (very appropriate). (7) The authentic assessment aspect of Book A is 57% (quite appropriate), book B is 54% (not suitable) and C is 59% (quite appropriate). The average agreement coefficient of the three books is 0.94% (very good). ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The thesis investigates the contemporary practice of book art, examining in particular the manner in which it fits both into the tradition of the book and the tradition of art making. The thesis spans two volumes. Volume One discusses the phenomenon of the artist's book from three vantage points: the attempts to define it, the attempts to catalogue it and the attempts to interpret it. Volume Two is an artist's book and although it is part of the project I have set myself, it is not being submitted with the theoretical component of the MA dissertation, but as part of the practical component. (Briefly, one of the tasks it embarks upon is an examination of the phenomenon of thesis writing, as understood and endeavoured by myself in the production of the first volume - in this sense it is self-reflective. Another is an examination of some aspects of my attempts to make examples of artist's books, which includes an investigation of some of the recurrent themes and preoccupations of my work) Volume One is set out in three chapters. The first chapter pursues a definition of book art and the artist's book in order to draw some perimeters around the subject, and to build a picture of its nature. In the course of doing this, the ideas of some book artists and book art commentators are considered in an attempt to create a richer tapestry of understanding. In the next chapter some of the ways in which book art has been categorised are discussed. This is in order to more finely delineate the nature and scope of book art. It is also to bring some clarity to bear upon the different components and manifestations of a vast and sometimes confusing oeuvre. I then suggest a system of classification of my own which offers an adjacent model for investigating artists' books and the endeavour of book art. With the above model in place, I undertake a foray into the arena of interpretation. Here I suggest the suitability of adopting certain methodologies of interpretation that come from the field of contemporary literary studies in general, and the interpretation of poetry in particular. I draw comparisons between the book artist and the poet, and suggest that they occupy a similar territory of meaning making. In the course of laying out my arguments in the three chapters, I refer extensively to examples of artists' books in order to make particular points. Where I consider it apt, I draw upon my book art as a source of example. In this way, I am able to weave into the text some information and reflection about my own practice and concerns as a book artist.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Daar word in die tesis ondersoek ingestel na die hedendaagse praktyk van die boekkuns en in die besonder die wyse waarop dit aansluit by die tradisie van die boek en die tradisie van die kuns. Die tesis beslaan twee volumes. Volume Een bespreek die fenomeen van die kunstenaarsboek vanuit drie invalshoeke: pogings om dit te definieer, pogings om dit te katalogisieer en pogings om dit te interpreteer. Volume Twee is 'n kunstenaarsboek en, hoewel dit deel uitmaak van die projek wat ek ondemeem het, word dit nie voorgele saam met die teoretiese komponent van die MA- dissertasie nie maar as deel van die praktiese komponent. I regard the culturally rich bookbinding as formats that hold great meaning; I made models of books that existed in different cultures through the history of the book. I became interested in how each structure had unique features and how the books themselves transmitted knowledge about their form. This interest in bookbinding formats led me to explore ways to add content to The binding plays a powerful role in producing my artist's books, the look and presence of these bindings is an integral part of my work and they are linked to the content and aesthetics. The final pieces encourage the viewer to interact with the work.

This study focuses on developing a book arts curriculum as a tool for teaching about creativity and problem solving. The curriculum's ultimate goal is to introduce and emphasize book arts as an expressive and powerful medium to future teachers and artists. Book arts will be used to offer potentialities for collaborative, learner-centered instruction. Students will create structures and artists' books from their experience, their learning will emerge from personal interactions with the structures and artists' books presented. The curriculum is planned into three modules, each module containing a different set of projects and activities organized to scaffold students learning in an engaging process. The modules examine book structures, artists' books, and a project that can either further explore book structures and artists books, or it can explore incorporating some other aspect of book arts in the project. Each module provides a broad range of examples, discussions, questions, and applications.

The conceptual foundation for my creative thesis work is based in research into the development of science, particularly the field of cosmology, and its related visual vocabulary. Three interrelated projects encompass my interests in unique artists' books and variable editions, research based projects, codified presentation of data, and universal interconnectedness, or oneness in all things, that was at the heart of medieval cosmology and is embraced by some 21st century subcultures. The thematic timeline of the artwork spans developments in the Early Middle Ages related to astronomy and cosmology and through 20th century guidebooks and NASA's social media accounts. The resulting artwork includes an artist's book, sculptural bookwork, monoprints, and an edition of broadsides.

Sales numbers in printed books have been on the slope since many years in Hungary and in many other countries too. Finding the motivations among these decreasing trends of reading and book consumption may eventually help in turning the book industry’s way on this downhill backwards and putting the book consumption on rising trails again. A series of interviews and focus group interviews are coming up within the frames of a doctoral research targeting the exploration of motivators for book consumption and the consumer behavior of book consumers. This article presents a pilot study done in the exploratory phase of the research. The study is a mini focus group interview conducted with fiction reader participants. The article summarizes the theoretical background for book consumption. Being a white spot in the academic discussion, the study outlines the Book Consumption areas for exploration: Reading habits; Parallel Reading; Preferences over E-book v. Printed books; Preferences over the physical attributes of a book; Ways of choosing books to read; Motivations for reading; Re-reading; Process of Book purchasing; Giving Feedback and Recommendations. Analyzing the group discussion the article identifies research topics to be covered in future qualitative studies and suggests potential variables for quantitative research. The study makes suggestions for future research.

Annotation: „Tabula rasa” – the theory of the philosopher John Loke represents the man without a book. The importance of the book in the formation of personality is demonstrated by the countless prohibitions of books throughout human history – „blacklists” of forbidden books and burned books. Hence the rhetorical question: – „What is your first book?”, „What books were in your training?”. The book is the source of knowledge that can be passed on to other generations contributing to their formation. Good governance can only be achieved based on qualitative knowledge. The need for elite education has been realized since antiquity. Thus in all societies, the formula of creating special schools for the children of kings and aristocrats was used. The Party High School was created in the Soviet Union for Party Officials because good governance equals the higher level of idealization of the official. Cultural and scientific elites have a role in defending national culture and merit in universal science. The book is an artifact in the demonstration of the existence of a people, and the people who will not have written books will remain out of history.

Over the years, the book, as an object of spirit, has always been elevated to the rank of symbol, metaphor or even archetype. All these concepts about the book challenged many scientists, people of art and culture, including documentary filmmakers. In the cinematic discourse, thanks to its important components (image, soundtrack), the book obtains spatial dimensions, but also sound – a process, which deepens the ideational background, facilitates the assimilation and valorization of the book’s content. The film “The Light of the Book” (screenplay by Nicolae Dabija and Pavel Bălan, directed by Mircea Chistrugă, image by P. Bălan) about the fate, often dramatic, of many old books, and the film “Anastasie Crimca” (author Pavel Bălan), dedicated to the famous calligrapher and book miniaturist, Metropolitan Anastasie Crimca, will serve as arguments for these ideas. Thus, we will try to demonstrate the possibilities of documentary film in “bringing” home our old books, scattered for various reasons around the world, and their valorization as an important component of the spiritual heritage of the nation.

The form and use of the book as an artefact have changed under the influence of technological, formal, and cultural factors. The appearance of the printed book contributed to the increase in learning how to write and read. The faster multiplication of texts, within reach of a wider audience, with the desire to enable the transport for reading or consult at any time, increased the demand for books in small format, in a “portable format”. The emergence of a reading public, directly associated with initiatives to promote education, the various transformations in the book production process, as well as the reconfiguration of the book format and its availability in pocket size through decisions focused on the needs of the readers, have contributed significantly to the popularisation of books, and reading.Today, it is possible to read printed books with various formal characteristics and from different digital formats on various reading devices, such as computers, tablets, e-readers, and smartphones. This context has contradicted the idea that the printed book would “die” and reinforced a scenario of lasting coexistence of printed and digital books, in which both play a part in democratising book reading.Through a literature review, this paper aims to understand the role of the printed pocketbook, and now the ebook and its reading on mobile devices, in democratising reading.
