Today there are many people can speak more than one language. It makes them can switch from one language to others in one speech event. This paper explainstypes of code switching, factors that influence the use of code switching and the function of code switching Boy William’s Vlog. The research belongs to qualitative research. The data are in form of utterances spoken by the Boy William and his guests. The data are collected by observation. It is done by watching and recording the video and writing the data. Then dataare analyzed by content analysis. The steps in analyzing data are: selecting data, interpreting and drawing conclusion. The results shows that there are three types of code switching found, that are Intra-Sentential, Inter-Sentential and Tag Switching. Meanwhile, there are four factors that affect code switching; Participant, Solidarity, Status and Topic. While the function of code switching, six functions were found; Talking about Particular topics, Interjection, Express Solidarity, Intention of Clarifying The Speech Content for Interlocutors, Repetition Used for Clarification and Express Group Identification. (1) Background: Inferior turbinates’ hypertrophy is often associated with Eustachian tube dysfunction (ETD); radiofrequency turbinate reduction (RTR) may provide a long-term improvement of nasal obstruction and ETD-related symptoms. (2) Aim: The study aimed to compare ETD in atopic and non-atopic patients before and after RTR and to investigate the correlation between tympanometry and Eustachian Tube Dysfunction Questionnaire-7 (ETDQ-7). (3) Methods: Ninety-seven patients, ranging from 33 to 68 years old, were screened by skin tests and divided into atopic (G1) and non-atopic (G2). Eustachian tube function (ETF) was evaluated through tympanometry, William’s test and ETDQ-7. (4) Results: A moderate to severe subjective ETDQ-7 was found in the 35.42% of G1 and in the 22.45% of G2 patients before RTR. William’s test resulted normal in 141 ears (72.68%), partially impaired in 15 (7.73%), and grossly impaired in 38 (19.59%) before surgery. A grossly ETD was evidenced in the 19.59% of cases before surgery and decreased to 6.18% after surgery with a significant difference among atopic patients (p < 0.001). (5) Conclusion: RTR may be considered a treatment option in patients suffering from ETD and inferior turbinates’ hypertrophy; RTR reduced the percentage of grossly impaired ET function (p < 0.001). ETDQ-7 and William’s test may represent valuable tools to assess ET function before and after surgery.

<p class="abstract"><strong>Background:</strong> Auditory tube dysfunction is suspected as primary cause of chronic otitis media and leads to surgical related complications in otitis media with tympanic membrane perforation. The diagnosis of eustachian tube malfunction is essential to know the pathogenesis of chronic otitis media.</p><p class="abstract"><strong>Methods:</strong> A total 150 cases and 75 age, sex matched control subjects between age group 20-50 years were selected. Pre and post-surgical history was noted and detailed ear examination, tympanometry was done. Auditory tube function was evaluated through Valsalva test, nasopharyngoscopy, pneumatic otoscopy. Intact tympanic membrane was assessed by Williams test, perforated tympanic membrane by Toynbee’s test. </p><p class="abstract"><strong>Results:</strong> Postoperative assessment of eustachian tube function by Toynbee’s test for 19 cases with failed tympanoplasty showed normal ET function in 5 cases, 8 cases had partial and 6 cases had gross ET dysfunction. Postoperative assessment ET function by William’s test showed 4 cases among 19 cases had partial ET dysfunction and 01 cases had gross ET dysfunction.</p><p class="abstract"><strong>Conclusions:</strong> Efficient surgical outcome of middle ear complications always depends on eustachian tube function. Most of the cases with residual CP showed partial or gross ET dysfunction. Patients with tubal dysfunction should be evaluated for underlying cause and treatable causes should addressed before proceeding for surgery as it increases the success rate of tympanoplasty.</p>

This study concentrates to analyze Margaret’s character about loneliness that experience by her in Tennessee William’s a Cat on the Hot Tin Roof. Loneliness is unpleasant situation that experience by someone when the one’s desire or ambition is not equivalent in social relationship. Furthermore, the source of the data is telling about someone who experiences loneliness which contains the type of loneliness, effect of loneliness and the effort to overcome from loneliness, consequently the theory of loneliness is chosen. Besides that, this study is qualitative design because the data are collected in the form of words. The data of this study are narrator’s explanations and the character’s utterances related to the loneliness experienced by Margaret and the writer has function as the key instrument in this research. According to the analysis of the drama, the writer has finds the answer of the research problem, that are types and effect of Margaret’s loneliness and Margaret’s effort to overcome or coping loneliness in Tennessee William a Cat on the Hot Tin Roof. There are two types of Margaret’s loneliness, they are emotional and social loneliness. Firstly, Margaret’s emotional loneliness is her unsatisfactory relation with Brick. She does not get intimate relation from Brick. Therefore, she cannot get unpleasant situation from Brick. Secondly, Margaret’s social loneliness, she as a part of Brick’s family is not respected and accepted in the family due to her childless and Brick’s addiction to liquor. Effects of Margaret’s loneliness. She transforms to be rude and frantic, she becomes talkative person, and the last effect is she has much power to be brave person. Margaret’s effort to overcome her loneliness, she tries to understand Brick’s situation and attitude to get attention and more communication with him.

This paper examines the poetics of perception and the accompanying moral commitments of William Carlos Williams’s poetry, paying attention in particular to the visual ethos of his work. If in his early years Williams conceptualized the poet’s function as “lifting to the imagination those things which lie under the direct scrutiny of the senses.” One of the chief arguments here is that this emphasis be understood as an expansive and ethically implicating one, rather than in creatively circumscribing terms. “Such war, as the arts live and breathe by,” Williams asserts in 1944, “is continuous.” After establishing the ethical basis for Williams’s poetics, this paper assesses the perceptual politics of his work of the 1940s specifically, and in a number of literary and historical contexts, including: his revisionary engagement with William Wordsworth and the Romantic tradition; his infamous poetic “exultation” at the bombing of London in 1941 and his elegy for President Franklin Delano Roosevelt; and his politically complex and often incendiary poems of social observation in these years. As such, this article both reveals and interrogates the sometimes contradictory ethical engagements and creative procedures that define Williams’s work in a period of profound political crisis.

Background : Liver organoids can be used as materials for Bioartificial Liver, to study the mechanism of liver disease and as drug test toxicity. Reconstruction of liver organoids requires optimal culture methods, culture medium and cellular components to construct liver organoids that resemble liver microstructure in vivo with optimal function. 3D culture method using hepatocytes and stem cells with PRP supplemented William's E can reconstruct liver organoids with liver function. Medium exchange is an usual method to maintain the required nutrients and to eliminate waste products, but it requires a sufficient supply of medium and supplementation. Method and the use of effective and efficient medium with optimal hepatocyte viability are urgently needed in the reconstruction of liver organoids. Objective : This study was aimed to compare the viability of primary hepatocytes in culture medium exchange liver organoids and monoculture and without culture medium exchange. Methods : Primary hepatocytes isolated from Sprague Dawley-Rats mice (250gr, n=3) were co-cultured with umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells, cord blood CD34+ stem cells and LX2 in PRP-supplemented William's E for 14 days. The culture medium was exchanged at 48 hours, day 7 and day 14 and no culture medium exchanged in the control group. Hepatocyte viability was analyzed using the Trypan Blue Exclusion Test at 48 hours, day 7 and day 14. Results : Hepatocyte viability in culture medium exchange liver organoids was higher than without culture medium exchange, especially in monoculture, but there was no significant difference (p value> 0.05). Conclusion: Hepatocyte viability in culture medium exchange liver organoids was not significantly different from no culture medium exchange liver organoids. Culture medium exchange in monoculture supported hepatocyte viability up to day 14. Rekonstruksi organoid hati membutuhkan metode kultur, medium kultur dan komponen seluler yang optimal untuk menghasilkan organoid hati yang menyerupai mikrostruktur hati in vivo dengan fungsi yang optimal. Metode kultur 3D menggunakan hepatosit dan sel punca mesenkimal dengan William’s E yang disuplementasi PRP dapat merekonstruksi organoid hati dengan fungsi hati. Pergantian medium merupakan metode yang sering dilakukan untuk mempertahankan nutrisi yang dibutuhkan dan untuk membuang sisa metabolit sel, tetapi membutuhkan persediaan medium dan suplementasi yang cukup banyak. Metode dan penggunaan medium yang efektif dan efisien dengan viabilitas hepatosit yang optimal sangat dibutuhkan dalam rekonstruksi organoid hati. Tujuan : Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbandingan viabilitas hepatosit primer pada organoid hati dengan pergantian medium kultur dan tanpa pergantian medium kultur. Metode : Hepatosit primer yang diisolasi dari tikus Sprague Dawley-Rats (250gr, n=3) diko-kultur dengan sel punca mesenkimal asal tali pusat, sel punca CD34+ asal darah tali pusat dan LX2 dalam William’s E yang disuplementasi PRP selama 14 hari. Medium kultur diganti pada 48 jam, hari ke-7 dan hari ke-14 dan tidak dilakukan pergantian medium pada kelompok kontrol. Viabilitas hepatosit dianalisa dengan menggunakan Trypan Blue Exclusion Test pada 48 jam, hari ke-7 dan hari ke-14. Hasil : Viabilitas hepatosit pada organoid hati dengan pergantian medium kultur tampak lebih banyak dibandingkan tanpa pergantian medium kultur khususnya pada monokultur, tetapi tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan (nilai p>0,05). Kesimpulan : Viabilitas hepatosit pada organoid hati dengan pergantian medium kultur tidak berbeda secara signifikan dengan organoid hati tanpa pergantian medium kultur. Background: Williams–Beuren syndrome (WS) is a rare, complex, congenital developmental disorder including cardiovascular manifestations, intellectual disability and a peculiar cognitive and behavior profile. Supravalvular aortic stenosis (SVAS) is the most frequent cardiovascular abnormality in WS children. Data on WS patients in sub-Saharan Africa are scarce. A genetic study is usually required for a definite diagnosis, but genetic testing is often unavailable in developing countries and the combination of a typical clinical phenotype and echocardiographic profile helps to confirm the diagnosis. Case Report: We report the case of a 5-year-old Ugandan child admitted to a large no profit hospital after he was initially managed as a case of infective endocarditis. A physical examination revealed the typical features of WS. A cardiac echo showed severe SVAS (peak gradient 80 mmHg) with a normal anatomy and function of the aortic valve and mild valvular pulmonary stenosis. The child also had a moderate intellectual disability and a characteristic facies consistent with WS. Conclusion: We present the first reported case of WS in Uganda. Cardiac echo and a characteristic clinical picture could be enough to exclude more common causes of heart failure (i.e., rheumatic heart disease) and to make the diagnosis even when specific genetic tests are not available.

<p> We investigated whether individual items on the nine item William’s Perceived Every­day Discrimination Scale (EDS) functioned differently by age (&lt;45 vs ≥45) within five racial groups in the United States: Asians (<em>n</em>=2,017); Hispanics (n=2,688); Black Caribbeans (<em>n</em>=1,377); African Americans (<em>n</em>=3,434); and Whites (<em>n</em>=854). We used data from the 2001-2003 National Survey of American Lives and the 2001- 2003 National Latino and Asian Studies. Multiple-indicator, multiple-cause models (MIMIC) were used to examine differential item functioning (DIF) on the EDS by age within each racial/ethnic group. Overall, Asian and Hispanic respondents reported less discrimination than Whites; on the other hand, African Americans and Black Caribbeans reported more discrimination than Whites. Regardless of race/ethnicity, the younger respondents (aged &lt;45 years) reported less discrimination than the older respondents (aged ≥45 years). In terms of age by race/ethnicity, the results were mixed for 19 out of 45 tests of DIF (40%). No differences in item function were observed among Black Caribbeans. “Being called names or insulted” and others acting as “if they are afraid” of the respondents were the only two items that did not exhibit dif­ferential item functioning by age across all racial/ethnic groups. Abstract In the present paper we demonstrate that the conformational state of the Afunctional enzyme ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase oxygenase is different in the tobacco mulanl Susu when compared to the wild type tobacco or spinach. The conformational state of the tobacco mu- tant enzyme is characterized by the presence of a higher number of antigenic determinants ac- cessible to antibody binding. This seems to be correlated to a higher oxygenase activity in the mutant. The Afunctional enzyme ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase oxygenase of the wild type tobacco Nicotiana tabacum var. John William’s Broadleaf, of the tobacco mutant Su.su and of spinach (Spinacia oleracea) was characterized by comparative immunological methods. Although the enzyme of the tobacco mutant appears identical to the enzyme of the wild type, when analyzed in immunodiffusion tests and immuno electrophoretical analyses, it exhibits a higher oxygenase activity. On the other hand the spinach enzyme exhibits only par- tial serological identity to the two tobacco enzymes. For the comparative studies pure IgG-fractions were prepared from the respective antisera. RuBP-carboxylasc oxygenase was used as a 70% purified enzyme preparation. Determination of the antibody binding capacity showed that the enzymes bind from the homologous antisera the highest amount of antibodies, which means that the antisera reflect the complementary picture of the enzyme structure. The enzyme molecules of N. tabacum var. JWB and of spinach bind 9 antibody molecules each. I lowevcr, the binding capacity of the tobacco mutant enzyme exhibiting the higher oxygenase activity is 30% higher. Measurement of the oxygenase function under the influence of the homologous as well as of the non-homologous antisera has led to the result that the oxygenase activity of all enzymes is inhibited. However, it is the degree of inhibition which differs. The antiserum to the mutant enzyme causes with the spinach as well as with the JWB-enzyme a higher degree of inhibition than that produced by the homologous antiserum. Therefore, a correlation between inhibitory effect brought about by this antiserum and the amount of antibodies bound does not exist. Whereas the enzyme of the tobacco wild type binds 20% less antibodies out of this antiserum its oxygenase activity is 60% more inhibited and the function of the spinach enzyme is 20% stronger inhibited although binding of antibodies from the antiserum to the tobacco enzyme is 50% lower. These observations permit the conclusion that the antiserum towards the mutant enzyme contains more antibodies with a higher binding affinity towards reactive regions of the oxy- genase function. This in turn means that the structure of this enzyme or its conformation must be different in comparison to the wild type enzyme.

Performing the fatigue assessment of a welded joint using the Notch Stress Intensity Factors [1] presents two major challenges. The first is the necessity of a precise reconstruction of the stress field around the notch tip, thus needing an extremely refined discretization with an evident computational cost. The other, is that the dimensions of the N-SIFs and so their critical values, vary accordingly to the William’s solution [2] depending on the notch-opening angle. Consequence of this is that the mechanical properties necessary for the assessment vary as a function of the geometry treated. The research to overcome this issue has led to the use of the local Strain Energy Density [3]. The power of this parameter, used as a tool to perform fatigue assessment, consists of having a very low mesh refinement sensitivity [4], being the energy computed directly from nodal displacements and stiffness matrix [5], and having constant dimensions, so constant critical value for a given class of materials. In this paper, the local energetic method is applied to the analysis of the results of a series of tests performed on cruciform load carrying and non-load carrying specimens realized by S235 JRG2 structural steel plates. If load carrying, the fillet welded joints are made of S355 J2+N structural steel. The fatigue testing has been performed in atmosphere at room temperature in as welded condition both with and without the corrosion protective zinc layer. Particularly, the interest is focused on the influence of the zinc layer of the fatigue properties of the joint and on the capability of the local energetic approach, confronted with the classic nominal stress approach, to accurately predict the fatigue failure. To conclude, the investigation of the tests executed reveals no significant difference in the fatigue life for the coated samples, compared with the uncoated specimens and the predictions according to the IIW recommendations [6].

Studies investigating executive functioning (EF) - namely skills involving higher-order cognitive activity and/or the concurrent storage and processing of material – in individuals with Williams syndrome (WS) and Down syndrome (DS) – have not generally treated task modality (verbal vs. visuospatial) as a meaningful factor. This is surprising, given the respective ability profiles which with the two conditions have been associated. Individuals with WS display relative verbal strengths, along with visuospatial processing difficulties, while individuals with DS are often reported to display verbal difficulties more marked than their overall, or non-verbal, levels of cognitive functioning would suggest. Of the studies which have treated task modality as a meaningful factor, very few have examined skills in more than one EF domain, and none have compared individuals from either population with any other specific diagnostic group, rendering difficult considerations of whether performance patterns are syndrome-specific. The principal aim of this thesis was thus to specify the finer-grained nature of EF skills in both populations, across a wider range of EF domains than previously employed. Another aim was to better enable a consideration of the syndrome specifity of each group‟s performance, by including both populations. Four empirical research studies were undertaken. In each, children and adolescents with WS and DS were presented with an analogous verbal and visuospatial task pair, within a specific EF domain; executive-loaded working memory (ELWM), inhibition, fluency and switching respectively. The two groups were compared to typically-developing (TD) children using regression 2 techniques controlling for factors which may influence executive performance. The hypotheses were a) that individuals with WS would show relative verbal EF strengths, as indicated by comparison to the TD group, with weaker performance on the corresponding visuospatial measures, b) that individuals with DS would show relative visuospatial EF strengths, as indexed in the same way, and c) that syndrome specifity would be indicated by differences between the performance patterns of each group. Findings across the four studies were mixed. Individuals with WS showed expected relative verbal strengths with regard to both ELWM and fluency. However, verbal and visuospatial inhibitory difficulties, as well as a relative verbal switching weakness, were also observed. Individuals with DS displayed the expected relative visuospatial strength on the switching task. However, no effect of task modality was found for inhibition and fluency in this group, while difficulties were observed across both verbal and visuospatial ELWM tasks. A preliminary indication of syndrome specificity was offered by the differing patterns displayed by the two groups, across EF domains. These findings are discussed in terms of their implications for a more multi-faceted understanding of the respective EF profiles of individuals with WS and DS, which attempts to account for the effect of task modality across a number of EF domains

Анотація:
The musical and spiritual life of Mary Lou Williams (1910 - 1981) came together in her later years in the writing of Mary Lou's Mass. Being both Roman Catholic and a jazz pianist and composer, it was inevitable that Williams would be the first jazz composer to write a setting of the mass. The degree of success resulting from the combination of jazz and the traditional forms of Western art music has always been controversial. Because of Williams's personal faith and aesthetics of music, however, she had little choice but to attempt the union of jazz and liturgical worship. After a biography of Williams, discussed in the context of her musical aesthetics, this thesis investigates the elements of conventional mass settings and oral tradition found in Mary Lou's Mass.

Дисертаційна робота присвячена розробці чисельних і аналітичних методів розрахунку коефіцієнта інтенсивності напружень, (КІН) для некласичних проблем механіки руйнування, зокрема, для тріщин складної форми та для тріщин в тонкостінних конструкціях з врахуванням геометричної нелінійності, (ГН). Представлена модифікація методу Вільямса, що враховує затухаючі на нескінченності члени. Досліджено межі та надані рекомендації щодо застосування даного методу. Розроблено аналітичний метод розрахунку КІН в трубах з довгими осьовими поверхневими тріщинами з врахуванням ГН в залежності від внутрішнього тиску. Наведено результати верифікації величин КІН з отриманими в роботі чисельними розв’язками МСЕ. Побудовані чисельні моделі для розрахунку КІН та розкриття берегів тріщин в ГН постановці для наскрізних тріщин в залежності від змінної величини осьової сили. Побудована апроксимаційна формула, що описує вплив ГН ефекту для узагальненої осьової сили та безрозмірної довжини тріщини. Показана значимість ефекту для реальних лабораторних експериментів. Розроблено універсальний напіваналітичний метод розв’язку інтегро-диференційного рівняння теорії пружності для плоских тріщин нормального відриву довільної форми. Для перевірки аналітичних результатів побудовані чисельні моделі МСЕ для тріщин різної форми, наприклад, для прямокутної, внутрішньої півелітичної тріщини, тощо, та проведено співставлення результатів. Проведені практичні розрахунки КІН в часі для елементів конструкцій АЕС для різних сценаріїв протікання аварійних ситуацій. Створено ряд імітаційних моделей з вбудованою тріщиною, для якої розрахунки КІН проводилися методами нелінійної механіки руйнування. Для тріщин, що проходять через наплавлений матеріал, де відбувається стрибки напружень, обґрунтовано застосування методу функцій впливу, для чого розроблено аналітико-чисельну процедуру, що використовує частково неперервні базові закони навантаження.
The dissertation is dedicated to the development of numerical and analytical methods for calculating the stress intensity factor (SIF) for nonclassical problems of fracture mechanics, in particular, for cracks of complex shape and for cracks in thin structures with taking into account geometric nonlinearity (GN) and their applications in various industries, in particular, for nuclear power plants, for calculation of the elements of the reactor unit. A modification of Williams's method is presented, which describes the stress state in the crack tip. For modification of the classical approach in the considered method the additional members were presented, which are infinite in the crack tip, but attenuate at infinity. The main idea of the method is to divide the whole area of the body into two separate parts – internal one, which embraces the tip of the crack, and the external one. In the inner area, only the classic Williams functions are used, and in the outer area both the classical members and additional ones are used. At the boundary between the selected subdomains, the conjugation conditions are to be fulfilled, the essence of which is to equalize here the stresses and displacements. The very high efficiency of this method is shown for bodies that have the shape of a circle, or are infinite, where almost exact values (up to 6-7 digits) are achieved when using no more than 12-16 members of the expansion. However, for a very elongated rectangular body the method gives much worse results, and the error can reach up to 2%. The practical significance of the proposed approach consists in the obtaining the simple and effective tool for testing the capabilities of commercial packages for calculating the parameters of fracture mechanics, which, as we know, do not always provide the correct results for case when load is applied on the crack surfaces. A thin-walled pipe with a long surface crack is considered. The pipe, surface of which may contain the initial deviation form ideal circle, is loaded by inner pressure. In first time the problem of determining the SIF was considered in a geometrically nonlinear formulation, when changes in the geometry of the body in the process of deformation are accounted for linear material behavior. Based on the Chen-Finnie method, which considers the crack as concentrated compliance, and on original solution for geometrically nonlinear behavior of curved initially distorted beam, the compact analytical formulas are obtained, which gives the value of SIF for each value of inner pressure. Comparison of the analytical results with those obtained by careful numerical FEM analysis, on the one hand, showed their good correspondence, and therefore the accuracy and efficiency of both the analytical and numerical procedures are confirmed. On the other hand, for the first time in the scientific literature, the value of SIF in a geometrically nonlinear formulation are obtained for surface cracks in slightly distorted cylindrical shell with surface long crack. It was shown that even for perfectly circular pipes having the cracks with depth up to half of the thickness of pipe walls, loaded by moderate level of inner pressure, the geometrical nonlinear values of SIF can be 10-15% less than those at linear approach application. This is very significant practical result. Another geometrically nonlinear problem is numerically investigated by known commercial FEM software for the through crack, which is loaded by a significant value of additional longitudinal force (the main factor of geometric nonlinearity considered) and small value of internal pressure (linear consideration). This statement distinguished this task from research conducted at NASA (USA), where the pressure and axial force were proportional as to pipe with closed ends. The geometric nonlinearity of the study is investigated through an incremental increase in loads and the corresponding recalculation of the SIF for the already taken into account changes in the deformed geometry (curvature). A number of tasks for determining the SIF for different pipe radii and dimensionless force values were calculated. Dimensionless parameters, which characterize the deviation of the values of SIF from the linear one, are numerically determined. Application of least square method allowed to suggest the simplified analytical formula for calculation of these deviations. These results are of great theoretical and practical importance. In particular, it is shown that for real pipes the neglecting by influence of axial force in usual approach may lead to 4-6% error of SIF determination. It is noted that additional account for large values of pressure, possible plastic deformations, may further reduce the actual values of SIF. Thus, the significance of the problems and the need for further research in this direction are shown. The necessity of analysis of flat cracks of non-canonical shape in three-dimensional bodies is noted. This is due to the fact that almost all existing solutions in the literature and reference results in normative documents are given for cracks that have shape of an ellipse or its part. However, real cracks detected by non-destructive testing are irregularly shaped cracks. Therefore, it is necessary to create the analytical methods that would allow to assess the impact of the crack shape, and to verify them with careful numerical procedures by FEM. For this purpose, flat internal cracks in infinite 3D body are considered. The formulation of problems for them is reduced to well-known integro-differential equation of the theory of elasticity. Note, that exact fundamental analytical solutions of which exist only for a circular crack and only for some simple laws of loading for an elliptic crack. A universal semi-analytical method for solving the integro-differential equation of the theory of elasticity for plane cracks of normal separation of arbitrary shape has been developed. It is proposed to consider the displacement of the crack edges as a product of a certain function of the crack shape, which satisfy to known asymptotic behavior of the displacement field near the crack front, and a certain polynomial series. As for the functions of the form, three variants of their choice were investigated - a) classical, which depends on the squares of ratio of radial coordinate of the considered point, and the corresponding coordinate of contour point; b) multiplicative, based on the product of equations describing the straight sections of the crack contour, and c) the original Oore-Burns function, which is an integral of the crack contour from the inverse square of the distance of the considered point to each point of the contour. The results showed that the greatest accuracy is achieved by application of hypersingular approach with Oore-Burns function of form. The verification of results was performed for elliptic crack, semielliptic inner crack, rectangular crack. The results were compared with numerical ones calculated by FEM. Practical calculations of SIF dependance with time for NPP reactor ant its elements for different scenarios of emergency situations are carried out. A number of simulation models with a built-in crack have been created, for which SIF calculations were performed by nonlinear FEM analysis. For cracks going through the cladding, where stress jumps occur, the method of influence functions is elaborated, and analytical-numerical procedure used piece-wise continuous basic laws of loading. Practical calculations were performed for the nozzle of reactor vessel, the cylindrical part of vessel, the core barrel and core baffle. These calculations were used to justify the extension of the service life of several units of Ukrainian NPPs.

Представлена модификация метода Вильямса, что учитывает затухающие на бесконечности члены. Исследованы границы и даны рекомендации о применении данного метода. Разработан аналитический метод расчета КИН в трубах с длинными осевыми поверхностными трещинами с учетом ГН в зависимости от внутреннего давления. Результаты хорошо коррелируют с полученными в роботе численными решениями МКЭ. Построены численные модели для расчета КИН и раскрытия берегов трещин в ГН постановке для сквозных трещин в зависимости от переменной величины осевой силы. Построена апроксимационная формула, что описывает влияние ГН эффекта для обобщенной осевой силы и безразмерной длины трещины. Показана значимость эффекта для реальных лабораторных экспериментов. Разработан универсальный полуаналитический метод решения интегро-дифференциального уравнения теории упругости для плоских трещин нормального отрыва произвольной формы. Для проверки аналитических результатов построены численные модели МКЭ для трещин разной формы, например, для прямоугольной, внутренней полуэллиптической трещины, и др., и проведено сопоставление результатов. Проведены практические расчеты КИН во времени для элементов конструкций АЭС для разных сценариев прохождения аварийных ситуаций. Для этого создан ряд имитационных моделей со встроенной трещиной, для которой расчеты КИН проводили методами нелинейной механики разрушения. Для трещин, что проходят через наплавленный материал, где происходят скачки напряжений, обосновано применение метода функций влияния, для чего разработано аналитико-численную процедуру, что использует частично непрерывные базовые законы нагружения.

This dissertation examines the techniques and themes of William Burroughs by placing him in the American Pragmatist tradition. Chapter One presents a pragmatic critical approach to literature based on Richard Rorty and John Dewey, focusing on the primacy of narration over argumentation, redescription and dialectic, the importance of texts as experiences, the end-products of textual experiences, and the role of critic as guide to experience rather than judge. Chapter Two uses this pragmatic critical lens to focus on the writing techniques of William Burroughs as a part of the American Pragmatist tradition, with most of the focus on his controversial cut-up technique. Burroughs is a writer who upsets many of the traditional expectations of the literary writing community, just as Rorty challenges the conventions of the philosophical discourse community. Chapter Three places Burroughs within a liberal democratic tradition with respect to Rorty and John Stuart Mill. Burroughs is a champion of individual liberty; this chapter shows how Burroughs' works are meant to edify readers about the social, political, biological, and technological systems which work to control individuals and limit their liberties and understandings. The chapter also shows how Burroughs' works help liberate readers from all control systems, and examines the alternative societies he envisions which work to uphold, rather than subvert, the freedom of human beings. Chapter Four concludes by suggesting some of the implications of Burroughs' work in literature, society, and politics, and by showing the value and importance of Pragmatism to the study of American literature and culture.

Cellular DNA is condensed and stored with the help of proteins, especially histones. This mix of DNA and proteins is termed chromatin. Manipulations of chromatin include post-translational modifications (PTMs) of histone proteins, such as the addition of methyl or acetyl groups, and the movement of histones by chromatin remodeling complexes to control how tightly or which regions of DNA are condensed or exposed. These actions can impact gene expression and thus influence the differentiation of tissues during development. I investigated if the enzyme protein arginine methyltransferase 5 (PRMT5), which mono- or symmetrically dimethylates arginine, is acting on histones during early development in Xenopus laevis. I also investigated if Williams syndrome transcription factor (WSTF) occurs within chromatin remodeling complexes during early development in X. laevis. WSTF interacts with the protein ISWI in early embryos, indicating it is part of a chromatin remodeling complex during this period of development.

Visual art and written text have been described as historical sisters, linguistic twins and warlike enemies. These attempts to exclusively define the capabilities of each medium are inherently limited, contradictory and inaccurate. A better understanding of their individual capability and cooperative possibility can be achieved by examining the ways in which each functions in relation to the other on the composite page. William Blake's designs provide an excellent arena in which the functional interaction between the arts can be observed. Blake's visual additions to the poetry of Thomas Gray, Robert Blair and Edward Young demonstrate that the visual image is capable of interrupting the stability of exclusive textual meaning. However, this does not undermine the capability of either medium to assert meaningful possibility. Rather, the excess of Blake's visual imagery amidst another's poetic page produces a pluralisation of media and representative potential that avoids the extremes of hierarchical definition and all-inclusive meaninglessness. In contrast, Blake's own composites feature visual art and textual expression that both contribute to an overall evasion of definitive interpretation. However, their unpredictable interrelations and inconsistencies amplify and distort one another on the composite page, sustaining a relationship that is neither exclusively harmonic nor discordant. Thus, the non-synthetic "marriage" of contrary states that provides the subject matter of the Songs and the Marriage is also an accurate model for the overall relationship between visual art and text in Blake's designs. A consideration of historical context reveals the contradictory currents that direct and antagonise Blake's designs and suggests that the perception of the relationship between the "Sister Arts" often depends on such temporal conditions. While acknowledging the limitations imposed by historical circumstance, this study also recognises that late eighteenth-century uncertainties encourage innovative reconceptualisations of composite interaction. In both form and content, Blake's designs contain yet contend with a variety of perspectives, and are invaluable examples of the individual and interactive plenitude that visual art and text are capable of. Overall, Blake's work highlights the unique role that the multi-media space plays in creative and critical efforts to understand the functional capability of each representative medium.

William Caplin’s concept of formal functions points the way to a more flexible theory of form based on processes and structuring principles rather than fixed schemata. This chapter further generalizes the theory of formal functions to a set of form-structural criteria based on repetition, fragmentation, caesura, and contrast. The chapter also constructs such a theory of form without necessary reference to tonal criteria, thus serving the larger project of understanding form as an independent musical dimension, capable of disjunction with, or non-trivial coordination with, tonal structure. A definition of secondary theme as a specialization of subordinate theme function is also proposed.

This chapter examines five satires on the subject of domestic politics. Orange-Amsterdam opposition dominated Dutch politics for much of the seventeenth century and the States Party faction, led by the republican-leaning Amsterdam regents, was driven by two primary concerns: the interruption to trade, particularly with France, caused by William III’s invasion of England and subsequent military exploits; and the curbing of William’s dynastic ambition, which was seen as a direct threat to Holland’s supremacy within the United Provinces. All of De Hooghe’s satires under consideration here are Orangist in viewpoint and accuse Amsterdam of colluding with France in order to maintain lucrative trade alliances and marginalize William III politically. The function of De Hooghe’s satires is the primary focus of this discussion and, to this end, the critical role played by factionalism in Dutch politics of this period will be considered. It will be argued that De Hooghe’s domestic satires were intended for a specific segment of Holland’s governing elite, those in the ‘middle party’ who did not align themselves fully with either the States Party or the Orangist ends of the political spectrum. The chapter concludes that pragmatic considerations were a critical impetus for the domestic satires: for Orangists, the fact that William III needed the financial support of Amsterdam for his military campaigns; and, for the Amsterdam regents, as is articulated in an anonymous anti-Williamite satire, the fear of William III’s monarchical ambitions and the opportunity to consolidate their power in the absence of the Stadhouder-King.

This chapter explores Bernard Williams’s genealogy in Truth and Truthfulness and argues that by emphasizing the historicity of needs and the ways in which practices can acquire or lose their points, Williams brings pragmatic genealogy from its Neo-Humean phase into its Neo-Nietzschean phase. The chapter begins by reconstructing Williams’s notoriously elusive genealogy and reveals its affinities with Cambridge pragmatism. It then addresses three influential challenges raised by Colin McGinn. Williams’s notion of intrinsic value is elucidated and his position distinguished from indirect utilitarianism. It emerges that Williams’s distinctive contribution to the pragmatic genealogical tradition is to identify the practical pressures driving thought away from a stance of instrumental valuation to a stance of intrinsic valuation, thus showing how intrinsic values have their uses, and to illustrate how the method equips one to do justice to self-effacingly functional practices. The chapter concludes by considering the depth of Williams’s debt to Nietzsche.

A brief Coda wrestles with the scope of the claims made for a strategic cynicism. It begins with the uncomfortable play between sceptical cynicism and much more impoverished cynicisms in Dinaw Mengestu’s novel How to Read the Air (2010). It then turns to Bernard Williams’s Truth and Truthfulness, a book that sought to clarify the virtues of truthfulness as our main resource against cynicism. It takes Williams’s reworking of the Nietzschean genealogy as a prompt to think critically about the strengths and limitations of cynicism’s corrective or recalibrating role for today.

An ‘exact’ basis function Dynamic Finite Element (DFE) for the free vibrational analysis of axially loaded beams and assemblages composed of beams is presented. The shear deformation is neglected but the Rotary Inertia (RI) effects are taken into consideration. The dynamic trigonometric shape functions for bending vibrations of an axially loaded uniform beam element are first derived in an exact sense. Then, exploiting the Principle of Virtual Work together with the nodal approximations of variables based on these dynamic shape functions, leads to a single frequency dependent Dynamic Stiffness Matrix (DSM) that represents both mass and stiffness properties. A Wittrick-Williams algorithm, based on a Sturm sequence root counting technique, is then used as the solution method. The application of the theory is demonstrated by an illustrative example of cantilever beam where the influence of Rotary Inertia (RI) effect and different axial loads on the natural frequencies of the system is demonstrated by numerical results.

The Alekseevski-Tate equations have long been used to predict the penetration, penetration velocity, rod velocity, and rod erosion of long-rod projectiles or kinetic-energy penetrators [1]. These nonlinear equations were originally solved numerically, then by the exact analytical solution of Walters and Segletes [2, 3]. However, due to the nonlinear nature of the equations, the penetration was obtained implicitly as a function of time, so that an explicit functional dependence of the penetration on material properties was not obtained. Walters and Williams [4, 5, 6] obtained the velocities, length, and penetration as an explicit function of time by employing a perturbation solution of the non-dimensional Alekseevski-Tate equations. Algebraic equations were obtained for a third-order perturbation solution which showed excellent agreement with the exact solution of the Tate equations for tungsten heavy alloy rods penetrating a semi-infinite armor plate. The current paper employs this model to rapidly assess the effect of increasing the impact velocity of the penetrator and increasing the armor material properties (density and target resistance) on penetration. This study is applicable to the design of hardened targets.

ABSTRACT Background: Osteoarthritis (OA), especially knee OA, is the fourth cause of disability in the world. OA affected the daily physical activity and quality of life of the patients. This study aimed to analyze the various factors that affect nutritional, physical, psychosocial, and comorbid disease affecting quality of life in knee osteoarthritis patients at William Booth hospital, Semarang, Central Java. Subjects and Method: This was a cross-sectional study conducted at William Booth Hospital, Semarang, Central Java. A sample of 79 patients with knee osteoarthritis was selected by simple random sampling. The dependent variable was the quality of life. The independent variables were age, nutritional status, pain intensity, radiological features, family function, length of illness, unilateral/ bilateral OA knee, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus. The data were analyzed by chi-square. Results: Osteoarthritis in elderlies was significantly associated with age (p <0.001), nutritional status (p <0.001), pain intensity (p <0.001), radiological features (p= 0.020), and family function (p <0.001). Osteoarthritis in elderlies was insignificantly associated with length of illness (p= 0.445), unilateral/ bilateral OA knee (p= 0.153), hypertension (p= 0.272), and diabetes mellitus (p= 0.617). Conclusion: Osteoarthritis in elderlies is significantly associated with age, nutritional status, pain intensity, radiological features, and family function, but insignificantly associated with length of illness, unilateral/ bilateral OA knee, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus. Abstract A Dynamic Finite Element (DFE) for vibrational analysis of rotating assemblages composed of beams is presented in which the complexity of the acceleration, due to the presence of gyroscopic, or Coriolis forces, is taken into consideration. The dynamic trigonometric shape functions of uncoupled bending and axial vibrations of an axially loaded uniform beam element are derived in an exact sense. Then, exploiting the Principle of Virtual Work together with the nodal approximations of variables, based on these dynamic shape functions, leads to a single frequency dependent stiffness matrix which is Hermitian and represents both mass and stiffness properties. A Wittrick-Williams algorithm, based on a Sturm sequence root counting technique, is then used as the solution method. The application of the theory is demonstrated by two illustrative examples of vertical and radial beams where the influence of Coriolis forces on natural frequencies of the clamped-free rotating beams is demonstrated by numerical results.

Abstract Automotive underhood electronics may be exposed to high temperature in the neighborhood of 100°C–200°C. Property evolution may impact reliability and accuracy of predictive models to assure desired use life. In this paper, evolution of properties of two underfill material properties are studied using DMA (Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer). The underfills are exposed to three different operational temperatures in the range of 100°C to 140°C for the measurements. The dynamic mechanical properties such as storage modulus (E′), loss modulus (E″), tangent delta (tan δ), and respective glass transition temperatures (Tg) are studied using DMA. Study of viscoelastic behavior of underfills is achieved by performing TTS (time-temperature superposition) experiments at 7 discrete frequencies 0.1, 0.21, 0.46, 1, 2.15, 4.64, and 10 Hz using DMA in three-point bend mode. From the selected reference temperatures, the master curves were constructed for storage moduli, loss moduli and tan delta as a function of frequency using TTS results. Using the WLF (Williams-Landel-Ferry) equation, the shift factors as a function of temperature were determined along the frequency axis. The relaxation modulus as a function of temperature and time can be obtained using the master curves of storage and loss moduli. A simple and detailed procedure has been established to find the Prony series constants.

The stability of a liquid-fuelled annular aeroengine gas turbine was investigated using a parallelised three-dimensional uRANS code. The simulations were performed on a single sector of an idealised annular gas turbine geometry using a non-orthogonal body-fitted structured grid. A κ-ε turbulence closure model was used and a Lagrangian fuel spray was solved using a Monte Carlo solution of Williams’ spray equation. Mass flow rate perturbations were imposed on the atomiser and the dilution ports of the combustor. The effect of the imposed perturbations on heat release was quantified using flame transfer functions. Excitation of either atomiser or dilution flows led to significant unsteady combustion. With careful design, fluctuations in the rate of combustion due to unsteady flow through the atomiser and dilution ports can cancel, leading to a more stable system.

The differential equations governing Geometric-Materially coupled torsion-flexural vibrations of laminated composite wings are first reviewed. Based on the finite element methodology (FEM), Euler-Bernoulli and St-Venant beam theories, the Dynamic Trigonometric Shape Functions (DTSFs) for the beam’s uncoupled displacements are thereafter derived. Exploiting the Principle of Virtual Work (PVW) and interpolating the variables based on the DTSF, the Dynamic Finite Element (DFE) formulations for uniform beams’ coupled vibrations are first developed. The variable geometrical and mechanical parameters are then incorporated in the formulation. The applicability of the DFE method is then demonstrated by two illustrative examples where a Wittrick-Williams root counting technique is used to find the systems’ natural frequencies. The proposed DFE approach can also be advantageously extended to incorporate more complexities, further coupling as well as other geometrical and mechanical parameters in the formulation.
