Providing career development services, through career counseling and assessment, is part of vocational rehabilitation programming. However, there is no applied evidence that such career development services are feasible or accepted among individuals with psychiatric disorders. We examined feasibility (acceptability, demand, and perceived need) of the Vocational Evaluation Center (VEC), one veterans affairs (VA) hospital’s method of career development services for veterans with psychiatric disorders. Demographics, referral source, and service utilization were analyzed among 90 veterans referred to the VEC. Qualitative analysis identified patterns to veterans’ reasons for seeking VEC services. Veterans referred to the VEC were predominately unemployed and disabled. Veterans tolerated the intervention well, with 16.7% dropping out. Reported needs for VEC services included (a) vocational uncertainty, (b) functional considerations in vocational planning, and (c) finding purpose. Veterans with psychiatric disorders want career development services. The VEC model appears feasible, well-tolerated, and aligned with consumers’ needs.

A new networking paradigm, Vehicular Edge Computing (VEC), has been introduced in recent years to the vehicular network to augment its computing capacity. The ultimate challenge to fulfill the requirements of both communication and computation is increasingly prominent, with the advent of ever-growing modern vehicular applications. With the breakthrough of VEC, service providers directly host services in close proximity to smart vehicles for reducing latency and improving quality of service (QoS). This paper illustrates the VEC architecture, coupled with the concept of the smart vehicle, its services, communication, and applications. Moreover, we categorized all the technical issues in the VEC architecture and reviewed all the relevant and latest solutions. We also shed some light and pinpoint future research challenges. This article not only enables naive readers to get a better understanding of this latest research field but also gives new directions in the field of VEC to the other researchers.

The rising importance of service for the global economy has resulted in a significant number of efforts to define and interpret its meaning. In this vein, this article identifies and organizes related literature following a holistic approach. The authors study service from different perspectives, both business-related and technical ones, e.g., marketing, operations management, and computer science. A total of 47 definitions of service are finally reviewed. They’ve found out: (1) How is service perceived and defined by different disciplines and (2) What are the common service species according to related literature. The authors observe that in the business realm service falls under either of the following two categories: service as a set of value-creating activities and service as a transformation. Due to ICT revolutionizing service provision, significant work has also been conducted in order to study technology-enabled services. The authors identified different types of technology-enabled services, namely e-services, SOA services and Web services. The main contribution of this article lies in the broadness, completeness and cross-disciplinarily of the literature covered, thus being able to stand as a reference source of knowledge for service analysts, engineers and practitioners.

Advancement in the information and communication technology make possible the development of e-government. The Indonesian government already grasped the opportunity to develop its own e-government system in providing public services. The obvious intent is to increase the quality of public service provision by the bureaucracy. This is hoped to be achieved by securing transparency and accountability of public officials. It is also to be expected that e-governance will be able to eradicate or at least decrease the possibility of corruptive behaviour. Unfortunately, fact speaks differently. Cases to be analysed here are: corruption committed by public officials working at the Investment and One Stop Service Office of the Bandung Municipality and those performed by public officials managing e-procurement services. In particular, this article shall discuss the issue how to develop e-government as to better at eradicating and preventing corruption by public officials.

Vehicular Edge Computing (VEC), based on the Edge Computing motivation and fundamentals, is a promising technology supporting Intelligent Transport Systems services, smart city applications, and urban computing. VEC can provide and manage computational resources closer to vehicles and end-users, providing access to services at lower latency and meeting the minimum execution requirements for each service type. This survey describes VEC’s concepts and technologies; we also present an overview of existing VEC architectures, discussing them and exemplifying them through layered designs. Besides, we describe the underlying vehicular communication in supporting resource allocation mechanisms. With the intent to overview the risks, breaches, and measures in VEC, we review related security approaches and methods. Finally, we conclude this survey work with an overview and study of VEC’s main challenges. Unlike other surveys in which they are focused on content caching and data offloading, this work proposes a taxonomy based on the architectures in which VEC serves as the central element. VEC supports such architectures in capturing and disseminating data and resources to offer services aimed at a smart city through their aggregation and the allocation in a secure manner.

Mobile cloud service is the most important traffic generator today, and high data rate services in this area are increasing. The Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) is a circuit-like service that is widely deployed owing to its security merits and the resource constraints of mobile devices. However, VDI requires a high and guaranteed virtually constant wireless data rate. Thus, we focus on the problems that have to be resolved in order for IEEE802.21 Media Independent Handover (MIH) to support a guaranteed wireless data rate and also enable it to offer optimized and maximized data rate support for mobile cloud services. We also consider a virtual machine (VM) migration scheme that is tightly coupled to mobile networks and can minimize the user's service delay and reduce the bandwidth requirements of the wired network. We then present a consistent control framework by extending the Global Environment for Network Innovations (GENI) control framework to provide a single integrated control framework for cloud computing and Future Internet compatibility. Finally, we develop an experimental testbed using a mobile cloud computing environment and evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme. We show that the proposed method can enhance the Quality of Experience (QoE) of mobile cloud computing services with increased data rate support and a single consistent control framework that is compatible with the GENI-based Future Internet architecture. The results of evaluations conducted indicate that our proposed method provides 24%–41% better data rate compared to conventional methods.

Ecosystem services are studied by using many different approaches and methods. Here we present a community approach with a combination of fieldwork methods and sociological surveys (questionnaire interviews and semi-structured interviews) in the assessment of mangrove ecosystem services. There were 198 households in 8 communes in 3 coastal districts of Nghe An province selected for the survey. We find that the basic mangrove ecosystem service values in the locality have identified by communities, including 17 types of services belonging to 4 groups: provisioning services, regulating services, supporting services and cultural services. The recognition and use of ecosystem services vary by location and occupation in the study area. The fishing group gives detailed information about the provisioning services, in contrast, the shrimp farming and agricultural production groups are interested in regulating and supporting services. According to space, mangroves in Quynh Luu district are assessed to have the highest potential for ecosystem services, followed by Dien Chau district, the lowest is Nghi Loc district. In addition to the potential for ecosystem services, mangroves are facing many threats of decline, placing responsibilities on managers and people in protecting and rationally using mangrove resources.

Borobudur Temple is one of the world cultural heritage owned by the Indonesian nation. The existence of this Borobudur temple has an impact for the surrounding community, one of which led to new tourist destinations. This study aims to analyze the tourism potential of the area around Borobudur Temple in the concept of sustainable tourism. This research was conducted by using life cycle assessment perspective on tourism activity in the district level, including: the primary inputs (resources), process and outputs. The data collected from one of the Village Economic Chambers in the districts surrounding the Borobudur Temple regions, named Borobudur VEC. The Borobudur VEC has provided two products and services: tempe mendoan and lodging services. Those two business products have different characteristics. The tempe mendoan business process requires more raw material than the lodging service business process. Based on the result, emission tempe mendoan production is more than from lodging services.

Objectives In light of evidence of national variability in service commissioning of varicose vein intervention, our aim was to evaluate the current state of primary care trust commissioning for all forms of varicose vein intervention in England. We also sought to clarify the extent to which access to endovenous and surgical varicose vein services is being restricted. Methods Under the Freedom of Information Act (2001), a structured email survey was sent to 108 primary care trusts in England. Trusts were asked how many elective endovenous laser therapy and open procedures were commissioned from 2008 to 2011 and they were asked to submit their commissioning policy for analysis. The ‘qualifying criteria’ expressed in each policy were analysed by theme and geographical region. Results Of 108 surveys, 95 (88%) were completed and returned. Of these, 91 (96%) stated that varicose vein interventions were actively commissioned. Eighty-eight (97%) of primary care trusts that commissioned varicose vein interventions stated that access was restricted. Qualifying criteria varied considerably between regions. Conclusions Access to varicose vein intervention appears to be restricted, with national variation in commissioning across England. This might have an impact on patient care and surgical training. We propose that a national decision be made about which varicose vein patients should be offered funding for treatment on the National Health Service.

Each year the Australian Journal of Primary Health devotes one issue to a special theme under the auspices of a guest editor. In 2006 the focus of the special issue will be on community-based care. Since the 1960s the aspiration to community-based care has become increasingly important for users of services as well as policy-makers. The evolution of community-based care has been influenced by deep currents of change in Western societies. Technical developments in areas such as dialysis technology and pharmaceuticals have made some kinds of complex care in community settings feasible. The evolution of market-based service frameworks and the "consumer society" have strengthened arguments that services should adapt to consumer aspirations by providing more services in communities familiar to their users. In a similar vein the drive for efficiency in public service provision has motivated policy-makers to explore ways of reducing the cost of services whilst striving to maintain quality. The social justice argument has been fundamental to deinstitutionalising people with complex needs.

Дипломна робота присвячена розробці системи для збору, збереження та відображення інформації про стан навколишнього середовища. Метою роботи є аналіз існуючих систем моніторингу інформації, та на основі поставлених вимог до них створення власної системи. У роботі проведено детальний аналіз по вибору компонентної бази та програмного забезпечення системи. Клієнтська частина системи була розроблена на основі контролера Arduino UNO. Серверна частина системи була реалізована у вигляді веб-сервісу. Загальний обсяг роботи: 65 сторінок, 16 ілюстрацій, 1 таблиця, 13 посилань , 5 додатків.
The thesis is devoted to the development of a system for collecting, storing and displaying information on the state of the environment. The purpose of the work is to analyze existing information monitoring systems and, based on the requirements set for them, to create their own system. In this work, a detailed analysis was carried out on the choice of component base and software system. The client part of the system was developed on the basis of the Arduino UNO controller. The server part of the system was implemented as a web service. Total volume of work: 65 pages, 16 illustrations, 1 table, 13 references, 5 annexes.

As each year passes the number of female veterans within the United States is expected to increase; as this population increases there will be a greater need for specialized healthcare services directed at this group. One issue that affects this population and has gained more attention within the past 20 years is military sexual trauma (MST) and the effect it has on mental health. Victor Echo Tango (VET) Support Services Inc. is a proposed counseling center that focuses on providing counseling services to female veterans that have experienced military sexual trauma. VET Support Services Inc. offers various counseling services that will help teach our female veterans how to live through their trauma. The organization combines traditional counseling services, such as individual counseling and relationship counseling, with new-age counseling techniques such as group mindfulness training to offer a comprehensive care model.

Det eksisterer per i dag ingen implementasjon av standard grensesnitt for å tilby høytilgjengelige systemer i kombinasjon med standard maskinvareplattformer, mellomvare og tjenesteapplikasjoner. Dette medfører at programvaren må tilpasses ulike plattformer og ressurser som er tilgjengelige. Individuell tilpasning resulterer i økte kostnader og tidsforbruk, samt større usikkerhet i forbindelse med utvikling. Service Availibilty Forum presenterer Application Interface Specification (AIS) som er et standard grensesnitt for høytilgjengelige løsninger. Rapporten beskriver en prøveimplementasjon av Checkpoint Service, som er en del av AIS standarden. Det er også vektlagt hvordan clusterprogramvaren Heartbeat kan benyttes for å oppnå høytilgjengelighet i et distribuert system. Rapporten beskriver først høytilgjengelige systemers natur, i tillegg til at begreper som feiltoleranse og clusterløsninger introduseres og diskuteres. Deretter beskrives noe av den høytilgjengelige programvaren som eksisterer på markedet i dag. Behovene for en standard diskuteres, og rapporten gir en oversikt over delvise implementasjoner av AIS som foreligger per i dag. Rapporten presenterer så en oversikt over AIS med hovedfokus på Checkpoint Service, som er den delen av standarden prosjektet implementerer. Det gis en innføring i entitetene knyttet til Checkpoint Service, samt at de viktigste egenskapene ved tjenesten beskrives. Videre gir rapporten en kort oversikt over de ulike teknologiene som er benyttet i prosjektet, før den utførte implementasjonen presenteres. Det er kun Checkpoint Service spesifikke metoder og datastrukturer forbundet med disse som her er beskrevet, samt eventuelle begrensninger ved implementasjonen. Deretter følger en oversikt over testutførelsen, før resultatene fra de gjennomførte testene fremlegges og diskuteres. Rapporten konkluderer med at løsningen realiserer basisfunksjonene som inngår i Checkpoint Service, og at den fungerer på en tilfredsstillende måte. Det er foretatt målinger av både checkpointtider og takeovertider. Resultatene fra disse målingene er meget gode, og tilsier at applikasjonen imøtekommer kravene til høy tilgjengelighet. Det gjenstår imidlertid noe videre arbeid for å få implementasjonen til å fungere med en tilfeldig applikasjon. Dette inkluderer implementasjon av flere funksjoner samt en viss generalisering av løsningen som foreligger.

This master's thesis is focused on connecting marketing and primary schools. Using the primary school in Česká Ves, I demonstrate it is important for school to take marketing activities in mind even on the most basic level of education. Thesis is divided into three parts. In theoretical one I describe marketing mix, basic principles of marketing research and analysis of the environment. Practical part is focused on the Česká Ves primary school and using both primary and secondary marketing research I analyse current marketing activities and marketing mix. In the last part I suggest improvements that school can make to improve components of marketing mix.

Syftet med studien var att ta reda på om ungdomar vet skillnaden mellan public service och kommersiella kanaler. Vi ville även ta reda på vad det är som skiljer public service och kommersiella kanaler åt i medvetandet hos ungdomarna, som speglas i

receptionen av olika typer av serier?

I studien har vi tillämpat kvalitativ metod i form av receptionsforskning, där intervjuer och observationer har utförts.

Resultatet av studien visar att 20 av 25 respondenter tillhörde kategorierna: respondent medveten samt respondent något medveten. Resultaten visar att ungdomar är medvetna om vad skillnaden mellan public service och kommersiella kanaler är. De diskuterar ledigt och öppet kring de olika kanalernas programutbud. Receptionsundersökningen visade även att det finns vissa signaler som visar om en serie kommer ifrån en public service eller kommersiell kanal.

Este estudo apresenta a problem?tica da viol?ncia sexual Infanto-juvenil a partir de um olhar cr?tico sobre a avalia??o das a??es dos ?rg?os de defesa e prote??o nos casos de abuso sexual contra crian?as e adolescentes do munic?pio de Natal/RN. Objetivamos realizar esta avalia??o a partir da investiga??o de 05 casos de crian?as e adolescentes v?timas de abuso sexual que foram atendidas pela Delegacia Especializada em Defesa da Crian?a e do Adolescente (DCA), considerando o fluxo de atendimento dos casos, a articula??o entre os ?rg?os que comp?em o Sistema de Garantia de Direitos (SGD), o registro da den?ncia, bem como o tempo percorrido entre o registro da den?ncia e a responsabiliza??o do agressor. Para tanto, o presente estudo constitui-se em uma an?lise sob o enfoque te?rico-metodol?gico quantitativo e qualitativo tendo como pressuposto a viol?ncia sexual nas suas dimens?es sociais, hist?ricas, culturais, legais e econ?micas. O percurso estabelecido entre o conhecimento sobre o objeto e o m?todo de an?lise envolveu: pesquisa bibliogr?fica acerca da discuss?o conceitual sobre a viol?ncia sexual, an?lise de dados quantitativos disponibilizados pela DCA, bem como entrevistas semiestruturadas junto aos respons?veis pelas v?timas e aos profissionais que atuam em institui??es dos ?rg?os de defesa. Apreende-se neste estudo que as situa??es de viol?ncia contra crian?as e adolescentes ? um fen?meno multifacetado que tem express?es desde a sociedades antiga, assumindo uma particularidade na sociedade contempor?nea ao considerar a popula??o infanto-juvenil enquanto sujeitos de direitos. This study presents the issue of Children and Youth sexual violence from a critical eye in assessing the actions of the organs of defense and protection in cases of sexual abuse against children and adolescents in the city of Natal / RN. We aimed to perform this evaluation from the investigation of 05 cases of child and adolescent victims of sexual abuse that were answered by Precinct Specializing in Defense of Children and Adolescents (DCA), considering the service flow of cases, the articulation between the organs that make up System Warranty rights (SGD), the record of the complaint, as well as the elapsed time between the record of the complaint and the accountability of the offender. Thus, the present study consists in an analysis from the quantitative and qualitative theoretical-methodological approach assuming 'sexual violence in their social, historical, cultural, legal and economic dimensions. The route established between the knowledge about the object and the method of analysis involved: literature about the conceptual discussion on sexual violence, analyzing quantitative data provided by DCA, as well as semi-structured interviews with victims and those responsible for the professionals working in institutions of the defense agencies. Is apprehended in this study that the situations of violence against children is a multifaceted phenomenon that has expressions from ancient societies, assuming a peculiarity in contemporary society to consider the juvenile population as subjects of rights. Furthermore, it was possible to identify the lack of effectiveness, with respect to the actions of the organs of defense in intervention situations of sexual abuse now investigated as yet not actually configure a process of articulation between these bodies from the perspective of ensuring rights and break the cycle of violence.

Tomando como premisa lo antes mencionado, Dr. Vet Clínica Veterinaria Digital nace bajo la idea de ofrecer un servicio de salud y bienestar integral a aquellos integrantes menores del hogar, las mascotas. En tal sentido, la presente idea de negocio ofrecerá una propuesta de valor que genere satisfacción entre todo el público objetivo. Asimismo, este emprendimiento se encontrará soportado por herramientas tecnológicas actuales, las mismas que permitirán una interrelación tanto con los proveedores del servicio, como por los usuarios y/o clientes finales del producto. En cuanto al mercado objetivo, este se encuentra conformado por personas entre los 18 y 65 años de edad que valoran la disposición de tiempo, principalmente en aquellos momentos donde se necesita la asesoría o atención de un profesional de la salud.
Today our society is more aware of the proper treatment that pets must be given, especially those related to timely medical care in any situation in which their lives may be compromised. Taking the aforementioned as a premise, Dr. Vet Digital Veterinary Clinic was born under the idea of offering a comprehensive health and well-being service to those minor members of the household, pets. In this sense, this business idea will offer a value proposition that generates satisfaction among all the target audience. Likewise, this undertaking will be supported by current technological tools, which will allow an interrelation both with the service providers, as well as by the users and / or end customers of the product. As for the target market, it is made up of people between 18 and 65 years of age who value the availability of time, mainly in those moments where the advice or attention of a health professional is needed.

AbstraktDe flesta av oss minns barnprogrammen vi såg som barn. Vissa program minns vi nostalgiskt.Vad var det i programmet som tilltalade oss? Som andra generationens invandrare medupplevelser från min fars hemland Italien och den invandrartäta pizzerian funderar jag på vaddet var i barnprogrammens miljöer som jag kunde identifiera mig med och som eventuellttilltalade mig. Jag började i den gestaltande delen att försöka göra ett barnprogram och komfram till min frågeställning: Vem konstruerar barnprogrammet Bolibompa som sin betraktare,genom scenografi och form? Examensutställningen bestod av min arbetsplats, modellhusetoch en sammanställd arbetsbok med texter och processbilder på gestaltandet av ettbarnprogram. (se bilaga 1) I den här undersökningen har jag valt att titta på det barnprogramsom flest svenska barn kommer i kontakt med, Bolibompa i SVT:s Barnkanalen. Mitt syfte äratt som blivande bildpedagog med medieinriktning få syn på medias roll och få förståelse förde rumsliga möjligheter till identifiering som förmedlas i barnprogrammet Bolibompa. Jagvill på så sätt få idéer hur vi som blivande bildpedagoger med inriktning media, ska kunnaidentifiera och utmana dessa normskapande bilder i min undervisning, utifrån Skolverketsstyrdokument. Jag har valt att göra en textstudie så jag kan närma mig utifrån ettproducentperspektiv, på liknande sätt som producent av ett TV-program. När jag studerarBolibompas ram använder jag mig av Simon Lindgrens metod med tre olika analysnivåer:Textuell nivå, kontextuell nivå och sociohistorisk nivå och perspektiviserar med hjälp avpratshowen Malou efter tio i TV4, barnprogrammet CeeBebies på BBC och ett barnprogrampå Arabiska från Bahraim. Jag använder begrepp från semiotiken. Denotation är ett teckensgrundbetydelse som vi kan peka ut direkt vid en neutral bildbeskrivning. Konnotation ärtecknets bibetydelse, en kulturell association som är gemensam för många. Undersökningenresulterar i en skriftlig uppsats och en gestaltning av ett barnprogram med betoning påscenografi. Undersökningen visar att fler har möjlighet att känna igen sig i Bolibompasblandning av stilar. Jag konstaterar att studion inte innehåller arabiska spetsbågar eller sofforfrån Fittja Basar. Snarare är det skandinavisk och svensk design som mer representerarvarumärket Sverige.

Studiens syfte var att undersöka vilka föreställningar om våld i nära relationer som socialsekreterare på olika enheter inom Socialtjänsten ger uttryck för samt hur deras handlingsutrymme kan tänkas påverkas av dessa föreställningar. Syftet besvarades genom två fokusgruppsintervjuer med socialsekreterare inom Socialtjänsten. I resultatet framkom att män oftast förknippas med våldsutövande och kvinnor med våldsutsatthet.  Mäns våld uppfattas allvarligare än kvinnors våld och våld i samkönade nära relationer vilket kopplades samman med könsstereotypa föreställningar. Hjälpen till våldsutsatta kvinnor uttrycks bestå i att hon ska lämna mannen och motiveras till detta. Det framkom också föreställningar om att våldsutövare inte vill ha hjälp och att motivera våldsutövare inte ansågs lika viktigt som att motivera kvinnliga offer. En viktig slutsats i studien har varit att de föreställningar Socialsekreterare bär på är betydelsefulla i förståelsen om vem som är offer respektive förövare samt att arbetet med våldsutövare bör lyftas och utvecklas för att förbättras.
Conceptions about domestic violence – who are the victim, who are the perpetrator?   The purpose of this study was to investigate the conceptions social worker, in various units, have of domestic violence, and how their capabilities can be affected by these beliefs. The purpose is answered by two focus group interviews with social workers in Social services. The result showed that men most often associated with the use of violence and women's vulnerability to violence. Men's violence is perceived more severe than women's violence and violence in same-sex intimate relationships, which were connected to gender stereotypes. Help for abused women according to the social workers expression is that she should leave the man, and as a social worker justify that action. It also emerged that aggressors do not want help and to motivate aggressors were not considered as important as to justify female victims. An important conclusion of the study was that the conceptions social worker has are important for the understanding of who are the victims and perpetrators, and the work with perpetrators of violence should emphasize and develops to improve.

Recently, most traditional market services have joined online service platforms. Despite the practicality achieved, such services eventually bring a large amount of data to the Web. In this sense, data analysis, data engi- neering, and data science activities have become extremely necessary. In general, they can extract extra information about systems and users, allowing the owners to produce insights and analyze patterns. Then, we propose an evalua- tion methodology to be applied in the online scenario of registration of publications and scientific productions, such as ResearchGate and Lattes Platform of CNPq. This methodology is unsupervised and divided into three main stages: (i) obtaining and representing the data; (ii) application of topic modeling; and (iii) the labeling of topics. This proposal diverges from the literature’s proposes that are based on collaborative networks and supervised techniques. We applied this methodology to a Lattes database and were able to observe the evolution of Computer Science research in Brazil. Based on this analysis, it is possible to identify the most popular and least explored research lines in order to direct public investments according to a certain interest.

In 1992, the Population Council established the Family Planning Operations Research and Training (FPORT) Program in the Philippines. It brought together program managers and regional researchers to identify problem areas that might benefit from operations research. From Western Visayas (Region VI), the City Population Office (CPO) of Iloilo City in collaboration with the Social Science Research Institute of the Central Philippine University, identified a problem concerning the poor performance of volunteer family planning (FP) workers and undertook to study it. The study focused on the Barangay Service Point Officers (BSPOs) who assist in the delivery of FP services under the supervision of the CPO, and Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) who concentrate on maternal and child care but have minimal involvement in FP and are supervised by the City Health Office. As this report states, the objective was to compare the FP activities and performance of the BSPOs and BHWs in Iloilo City and determine the factors that influence their performance.

Between April 2014 and March 2018, the SWIFT Consortium, led by Oxfam with Tearfund and ODI as members, carried out the 'SWIFT 1' project in DRC and Kenya to provide access to water and sanitation and to promote basic hygiene practices. In DRC, the consortium worked with implementing partners HYFRO, CEPROSSAN, and PPSSP in rural and semi-urban areas in three eastern provinces – North Kivu, South Kivu and Maniema. This Effectiveness Review evaluates the success of this project to increase the sustainability of water and sanitation systems and services. Para aliviar esta falta de información, una herramienta costo-efectiva que se está utilizando en diversos países son las plataformas web con información acerca de programas de educación superior. Esta nota técnica tiene como objetivo servir como un punto de partida para las organizaciones que planean diseñar por primera vez o mejorar alguna plataforma web de este tipo y requieran revisar la experiencia internacional en estas prácticas. Este documento contiene: 1) una revisión de la literatura pertinente en torno al rol de la información para la elección de carreras y la utilidad de las plataformas web; 2) una revisión de un extenso grupo de plataformas alrededor del mundo a fin de identificar qué atributos suelen presentar y cómo organizan la información; y 3) a partir de la mejora del portal web peruano Ponte en Carrera, se busca dar un ejemplo de cómo identificar necesidades en la población objetivo y las oportunidades de mejora al portal y, a la vez, proponer cambios al respecto. Para este propósito, se emplearon grupos focales y encuestas a jóvenes en torno a sus preferencias y percepciones, las que brindan evidencia acerca de qué indicadores utilizar y cómo presentar la información en términos de relevancia y claridad.

Este informe corto narra la experiencia del proyecto Cultura de Datos en la Trata de Seres Humanos, liderado por el Instituto Universitario de Estudios sobre Migraciones (IUEM) en colaboración con Unicef Comité Español. Durante más de dos años, el proyecto ha investigado las tendencias, lagunas y retos a la hora de recoger, analizar, compartir y utilizar los datos en materia de trata de seres humanos con el fin de poder tomar mejores decisiones. Una vez hecho el análisis, se ha servido de dos herramientas esenciales para presentar dos posibles soluciones: una estadística y una tecnológica. Con la primera, se ha logrado estimar la “cifra oculta” de víctimas de trata en la Comunidad Autónoma de Madrid para el periodo 2015-2019. Con la segunda, se han sentado las bases para una aplicación tecnológica basada en tecnología blockchain permita el acceso a derechos de las personas en procesos de trata y explotación, así como la interoperabilidad institucional de las organizaciones y autoridades que las asisten.

Un sistema automatizado de toma o soporte de decisiones (ADS por las siglas en inglés de Automated Decision Support) es un sistema computacional que puede, para un determinado conjunto de objetivos definidos por seres humanos, hacer predicciones y recomendaciones o tomar decisiones que inciden en entornos reales o virtuales. Estos sistemas están diseñados para operar con diversos grados de autonomía. Durante los últimos años, los ADS han crecido exponencialmente en número y ámbitos de aplicación. En la actualidad, cada vez interactuamos con una mayor cantidad de ADS, a menudo sin que nos percatemos de ello. Sin embargo, la falta de conciencia acerca de su uso no reduce los riesgos sociales, en caso de que estos sistemas estén mal diseñados o se hayan creado sin tomar las precauciones necesarias. Esta guía buscar servir de instrumento que ayude a tomar conciencia sobre las implicaciones y consecuencias que conlleva la puesta en marcha de sistemas automatizados en la toma o soporte de las decisiones que afectan las vidas de las personas. Si bien las auditorías se han convertido en un componente fundamental en el campo cada vez más extenso de la gobernanza algorítmica, por sí solas no son suficientes para mitigar los impactos de la implementación y ejecución de un sistema; en esencia constituyen un proceso mediante el cual se determina el cumplimiento de ciertos estándares. Con todo, las auditorías sí desempeñan un papel indispensable en materia de evaluación de impacto y de consecución y disponibilidad de información, tanto en el ámbito de la entidad misma, como en el de los organismos reguladores, así como para los afectados potenciales y para la sociedad en su conjunto.

Flooding is a major source of concern for Texas’ coastal communities. It affects the quality of infrastructure, the lives of citizens, and the ecological systems upon which coastal communities in Texas rely. To plan for and mitigate the impacts of flooding, Texas coastal communities may implement land use tools such as zoning, drainage utility systems, eminent domain, exactions, and easements. Additionally, these communities can benefit from understanding how flooding affects water quality and the tools available to restore water bodies to healthy water quality levels. Finally, implementing additional programs for education and ecotourism will help citizens develop knowledge of the impacts of flooding and ways to plan and mitigate for coastal flooding. Land use tools can help communities plan for and mitigate flooding. Section III addresses zoning, a land use tool that most municipalities already utilize to organize development. Zoning can help mitigate flooding, drainage, and water quality issues, which, Texas coastal communities continually battle. Section IV discusses municipal drainage utility systems, which are a mechanism available to municipalities to generate dedicated funds that can help offset costs associated with providing stormwater management. Section V addresses land use and revenue-building tools such as easements, eminent domain, and exactions, which are vital for maintaining existing and new developments in Texas coastal communities. Additionally, Section VI addresses conservation easements, which are a flexible tool that can enhance community resilience through increasing purchase power, establishing protected legal rights, and minimizing hazardous flood impacts. Maintaining good water quality is important for sustaining the diverse ecosystems located within and around Texas coastal communities. Water quality is regulated at the federal level through the Clean Water Act. As discussed in Section VII, the state of Texas is authorized to implement and enforce these regulations by implementing point source and nonpoint source pollutants programs, issuing permits, implementing stormwater discharge programs, collecting water quality data, and setting water quality standards. The state of Texas also assists local communities with implementing restorative programs, such as Watershed Protection Programs, to help local stakeholders restore impaired water bodies. Section VIII addresses ecotourism and how these distinct economic initiatives can help highlight the importance of ecosystem services to local communities. Section VIX discusses the role of education in improving awareness within the community and among visitors, and how making conscious decisions can allow coastal communities to protect their ecosystem and protect against flooding.

Field crews recently collected more than 10 years of classification and mapping data in support of the North Coast and Cascades Inventory and Monitoring Network (NCCN) vegetation maps of Mount Rainier (MORA), Olympic (OLYM), and North Cascades (NOCA) National Parks. Synthesis and analysis of these 6000+ plots by Washington Natural Heritage Program (WNHP) and Institute for Natural Resources (INR) staff built on the foundation provided by the earlier classification work of Crawford et al. (2009). These analyses provided support for most of the provisional plant associations in Crawford et al. (2009), while also revealing previously undescribed vegetation types that were not represented in the United States National Vegetation Classification (USNVC). Both provisional and undescribed types have since been submitted to the USNVC by WNHP staff through a peer-reviewed process. NCCN plots were combined with statewide forest and wetland plot data from the US Forest Service (USFS) and other sources to create a comprehensive data set for Washington. Analyses incorporated Cluster Analysis, Nonmetric Multidimensional Scaling (NMS), Multi-Response Permutation Procedure (MRPP), and Indicator Species Analysis (ISA) to identify, vet, and describe USNVC group, alliance, and association distinctions. The resulting revised classification contains 321 plant associations in 99 alliances. A total of 54 upland associations were moved through the peer review process and are now part of the USNVC. Of those, 45 were provisional or preliminary types from Crawford et al. (2009), with 9 additional new associations that were originally identified by INR. WNHP also revised the concepts of 34 associations, wrote descriptions for 2 existing associations, eliminated/archived 2 associations, and created 4 new upland alliances. Finally, WNHP created 27 new wetland alliances and revised or clarified an additional 21 as part of this project (not all of those occur in the parks). This report and accompanying vegetation descriptions, keys and synoptic and environmental tables (all products available from the NPS Data Store project reference: https://irma.nps.gov/DataStore/Reference/Profile/2279907) present the fruit of these combined efforts: a comprehensive, up-to-date vegetation classification for the three major national parks of Washington State.

The Everglades National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve vegetation mapping project is part of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP). It is a cooperative effort between the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD), the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), and the National Park Service’s (NPS) Vegetation Mapping Inventory Program (VMI). The goal of this project is to produce a spatially and thematically accurate vegetation map of Everglades National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve prior to the completion of restoration efforts associated with CERP. This spatial product will serve as a record of baseline vegetation conditions for the purpose of: (1) documenting changes to the spatial extent, pattern, and proportion of plant communities within these two federally-managed units as they respond to hydrologic modifications resulting from the implementation of the CERP; and (2) providing vegetation and land-cover information to NPS park managers and scientists for use in park management, resource management, research, and monitoring. This mapping project covers an area of approximately 7,400 square kilometers (1.84 million acres [ac]) and consists of seven mapping regions: four regions in Everglades National Park, Regions 1–4, and three in Big Cypress National Preserve, Regions 5–7. The report focuses on the mapping effort associated with the Northwest Coastal Everglades (NWCE), Region 4 , in Everglades National Park. The NWCE encompasses a total area of 1,278 square kilometers (493.7 square miles [sq mi], or 315,955 ac) and is geographically located to the south of Big Cypress National Preserve, west of Shark River Slough (Region 1), and north of the Southwest Coastal Everglades (Region 3). Photo-interpretation was performed by superimposing a 50 × 50-meter (164 × 164-feet [ft] or 0.25 hectare [0.61 ac]) grid cell vector matrix over stereoscopic, 30 centimeters (11.8 inches) spatial resolution, color-infrared aerial imagery on a digital photogrammetric workstation. Photo-interpreters identified the dominant community in each cell by applying majority-rule algorithms, recognizing community-specific spectral signatures, and referencing an extensive ground-truth database. The dominant vegetation community within each grid cell was classified using a hierarchical classification system developed specifically for this project. Additionally, photo-interpreters categorized the absolute cover of cattail (Typha sp.) and any invasive species detected as either: Sparse (10–49%), Dominant (50–89%), or Monotypic (90–100%). A total of 178 thematic classes were used to map the NWCE. The most common vegetation classes are Mixed Mangrove Forest-Mixed and Transitional Bayhead Shrubland. These two communities accounted for about 10%, each, of the mapping area. Other notable classes include Short Sawgrass Marsh-Dense (8.1% of the map area), Mixed Graminoid Freshwater Marsh (4.7% of the map area), and Black Mangrove Forest (4.5% of the map area). The NWCE vegetation map has a thematic class accuracy of 88.4% with a lower 90th Percentile Confidence Interval of 84.5%.
