This paper explores the tourism trends emerging in post COVID- world. This pandemic was conscientious for an abrupt transformation in the way world travelled. This impulsive impediment in the tourism and hospitality industry was not only unconstructive to the growth of the industry but the imminent influences on future tourism are also looking dim and muted. Virtual Reality has emerged as a new innovative approach to attract viewers though providing them a virtual experience of tourism a tour destination with enhanced technological version. Virtual reality is the new normal in the digital world. People are slowly gaining access to digital tourism experiences through Virtual Reality tourism concept. The increase in virtual reality tourism trend is most welcome thing globally. This trend capitalizes on the use of technology to make viewers experience a touring destination. It includes Virtual Reality tours through which a tourist or viewer can experience a tourist destination, hotel interiors, restaurant interiors, outdoor tourist attractions, shopping sites, archaeological inputs, museums, etc sitting in home. This viewer is made to experience complete visit of the destination through VR head gears and comply with his aspirations of touring. Without being physically present on the tourist site a viewer can become a tourist and see all sites as naturally as a tourister. But this usage of technology driven virtual reality tools are challenged by several factors.

Abstract - Indonesia has a variety of urban tourism village scattered in various regions. The tourism village has various themes according to the character of the are and the residents of the village. Such as Batik Village, Ceramic Village, Rainbow Village, etc. The presence of the concept of an urban tourism village doesn not only occur in Indonesia, but also occurs in various other countries such as Gamcheon Culture Village in Korea, Chefchaouen in Marocco, Marsaxlokk Village in Malta, etc. With the presence of the concept of tourism village, it provides novelty for both humans (tourist and villagers) as the users of space accompanied by their activities. Based on these problems the authors are interested in conducting this research. This research will discuss about what is meant by a tourist village, how tourism activities occur in the two study objects and how architecture as a physical element plays a role in the activities in it. The purpose of this study is to describe how far a village called a tourist village is feasible as a tourist place by introducing the tourism criteria, what are the criteria for a village to be called a tourist village. This research is a descriptive qualitative research, using Kampung Lawas Maspati and Kampung Pelangi Kenjeran as objects of study to be compared based on the tourism criteria itself, to further examine how the physical (architectural) element settings play a role in accommodating tourism activities in the village itself. So that how far the two objects of study meet the existing tourist criteria so that they are feasible as tourist attractions. With this research, it is hoped that it can provide an understanding of what is meant by a tourist village and the importance of the role of architecture in realizing the tourism village it deserves. The results of the research show that the physical elements in Kampung Lawas Maspati meet the three criteria that a tourism village needs to have and there are tourism activities organized by local village managers, while Kampung Pelangi Kenjeran has not fulfilled existing tourism criteria, the availability of physical elements in Kampung Pelangi Kenjeran is very minimal. This proves that the term "tourism" in Pelangi Kenjeran village is still not appropriate as it should be. Key Words: setting, physical elements, activity, urban tourim village

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, tourism had permeated all spaces of experience, reaching nearly every country, region, community, and corner of the globe. In recent decades, the meanings, implications, and roles of tourism have also expanded significantly. This article focuses on unconventional tourism mobilities, including same-day visits, which are an important but often neglected part of the tourism system, constantly challenging both scholars and tourism industry stakeholders. Unconventional tourism is an umbrella term that covers most kinds of unregistered or unaccounted tourist mobilities, some of which might not appear to be ‘tourism’ but should be in certain localities and under certain conditions. Given the growth of unregistered tourist flows and unaccounted leisure (or utilitarian) mobilities, there is a need in tourism studies to apply innovative research methods and to reconceptualize the meanings of tourism in different geographical and social contexts. It is expected that people’s desire to travel in the post-pandemic era will educe new spatial and temporal travel experiences and behaviours in which unconventional tourisms will play an important role. To better understand this phenomenon and to evaluate the development of new approaches to travel and behavioural spatialities, new ways of thinking, new theoretical constructs, and new methodologies are needed. This article seeks to explore certain hidden or invisible tourism mobilities, focusing on the geographical patterns, processes, and hidden aspects of unconventional tourism.

This thesis explores and analyses the mythical quality of modem Athens as experienced by tourists. It is an exploration of the tourist gaze upon the Athenian landscape, as well as an account of how tourists narrate its urban mythology. This research is largely concerned with the relationship of time and space through memory, exploring the interplay between the spatial arrangement of urban elements, temporality and the experience of the city. Athens is viewed as a city marked by a temporal collage where different historical periods are juxtaposed. This juxtaposition gives Athens the character of a deconstructed city. The city is made present through spatialised remainders, her genius loci. This thesis thus analyses the relationship between Athens past and the present, the strangely familiar and the stereotypically exotic, as interwoven within an urban landscape imagined, gazed and finally, narrated by foreign tourists. The core argument of this work is that the Athenian landscape embodies an urban mythology constructed by the nineteenth century romantic travellers: these, through their writings, fashioned the stereotypical imagery of Athens. Modem tourists are the consumers of these myths. Like their nineteenth century predecessors, tourists stroll around the city following the traces of their memory - key landmarks and symbols, recognising what they have already known; feeling nostalgic for the past -their past, fragmenting the landscape into different historic layers, depopulating it from its present inhabitants, orientalising it. In this work I explore the transmission and reinvention of the myths of Athens through guidebooks, travel brochures, guided tours and tourist photographs. The exploration of the different images of Athens as visualised by tourists leads to a discussion of gendered, orientalised, literary, photographic and cartographic aspects of the Athenian urban landscape. The theoretical framework of the thesis is based on post-modernism, post-structuralism and semiotics. My research methods have been qualitative, including both in-depth interviews and participant observation, following tourists around the city and participating in their activities. I also analysed the ways tourists 'gaze' and photograph the city. My intention is to draw -metaphorically speaking- a mental map including the sites visited, consumed and experienced by tourists.

The literature demonstrates that wildlife tourism, which can incorporate anything from insects (dragonflies, butterflies, glow-worms), flowers, mammals and birds, has become a potentially lucrative activity which is attracting attention from tourists and destinations. There are both positive and negative impacts associated with wildlife tourism. It can contribute to the conservation of threatened habitats / species, provide economic benefit to local communities attract new types of tourists to remote and economically peripheral areas, and provide environmental education and psychological benefits to tourists. Less desired outcomes of wildlife tourism imply that as places and their wildlife become more popular, tourist numbers and infrastructure increases and so too do incidences of disturbance which directly impact upon the well-being and sustainability of the focal wildlife populations such as the disruption of daily behaviour including feeding, breeding, and resting. Whether the positives outweigh the benefits has yet to be tried or tested and may well depend upon how the resource and visitors are managed which in turn depends upon understanding the expectations, the behaviour and the experiential benefits sought by tourists. Given the spectrum of tourist-wildlife opportunities, it follows that wildlife tourists are by no means an homogenous market, there are significant variations in typologies, from the 'serious' to the 'casual' and from the 'specialist' to the 'generalist'. Therefore planning and management become more difficult as the behaviour and needs of each segment differ enormously. Up until now, the human dimensions of watching wildlife have been rather overlooked in the tourism literature; and particularly the experiential and psychological benefits of wildlife tourism have not been adequately explored or applied to the management and marketing of destinations. Using a sample of British tourists, the aim of this research was, therefore, to explore the culture of wildlife tourism in order to contribute a better understanding of what it means to enjoy wildlife experiences, the content of what exactly is enjoyed, the process through which people attend to and perceive wildlife and the emotional responses it provokes. Inherent in this thesis is the discussion of the human dimensions of wildlife, namely how wildlife tourists perceive the natural world, whether they have eco, anthropocentric or anthropomorphic views of the animal kingdom, and whether the application of biophilia, our supposed inherent desire to connect with other, non-human, living things, can be applied to wildlife tourism. In addition the author explored the field skills involved in wildlife watching with regards to identification and photography, what constitutes a memorable experience, and finally the expectations and benefits of travelling on an organised wildlife holiday. In order to satisfy this aim, an ethnographic approach to data generation was employed in two distinct stages. First in-depth interviews were carried out with British tour operators to investigate the business of wildlife tour operating, to discover who the main operators are, the types of products that they offer, the profile of the clients that they attract as well as the management and delivery of their tours. This showed that the wildlife tourism market can be divided into different typologies, for example, birders, `listers' and general naturalists. Secondly, the author joined two tour groups within the general naturalist market, one birdwatching tour to Andalucia to watch the Autumn migration and one whale and bird-watching tour on the Sea of Cortez, Baja California. Whilst on tour, field journals were kept to record the days' events, participants emotional responses to wildlife, and her own observations of tour leading. These journals were coupled with in-depth interviews of tour participants whilst on tour and later in-depth interviews with people who regularly take dedicated wildlife holidays. This ethnographic study of these dedicated general naturalists reveals a number of important themes which may be of use for future studies such as: how interest in wildlife began, how wildlife watching is part of everyday life not just a holiday activity, the fascination with how wildlife adapts to human / urban environments and the relationship with regular wildlife visitors in their garden. In addition it highlights how wildlife tourism is used as a symbol of self presentation, how it is important to develop skills such as identification of species and photography, and how spontaneity, close proximity to wildlife, high numbers and first sightings all make for memorable experiences. There are a number of profound and psychological benefits which the nature of this study allowed to come to the fore, and that was the wonderment and sense of awe at the beauty and diversity of the natural world, of really feeling alive and in 'flow' when watching wildlife and how being in 'flow' distorts time. Linked to this is the spiritual fulfilment and sustenance provided by nature. The physical attributes of the wildlife holiday highlight the important role of the tour leader, their knowledge of species and of where to see them as well as the demonstration of responsible wildlife watching behaviour. Participants voiced their desire for relaxation, for meeting like-minded people and for sharing experiences with others. Finally participants appeared to be aware of potential negative impacts and liked to see responsible tour operating. The thesis ends by discussing the practical implications of these findings for industry and for wider society, and concludes by suggesting areas for future research. "An honest experience of nature would find that the natural world is an arena of endurance, tragedy and sacrifice as much as joy and uplift. It is about the struggle against the weather, the perils of migration, the ceaseless vigilance against predators, the loss of whole families and the brevity of existence. The natural world is like a theatre, a stage beyond our own, in which the dramas that are an irreducible part of being alive are played out without hatred or envy or hypocrisy. No wonder they tell us so much about ourselves and our own frailties" (Mabey 2006: 13). "

Although we are well into the 21st century, our cities are still governed by political, environmental, economical and social problems. With globalization spreading all over the world, these issues are not local anymore; instead they are quickly becoming evident at a global scale. As a consequence, cities, places, destinations are suffering the effect of an increasing standardization and the declining quality of urban spaces, followed sometimes by loss of identity, structure and meaning. This has pushed researchers and experts to investigate issues of space and places as means of correction by offering new marketing tools focusing in Branding Places, especially Cultural Heritage sites. In disposition to these common trends, nowadays there is an increased competition between different countries and cities throughout the world in attracting investments and investors, followed by local and government policies, which leads cities to implement marketing and branding strategies almost every year. Albania as many other countries in the world, is also know of holding many potential regarding tourism development. Beside the fact that for the past ten years Albania has been trying to create a brand for attracting more investments, and attention as a touristic attraction attempting to build up a tourism brand, the country is still lacking many basic resources and new methodologies in transitioning from an aggressive tourism (intervention to the landscape, cultural heritage, environment) to more sustainable tourism trends in branding the country and especially Gjirokastra. Referring to the standardization of cultural tourism as a simple mean of branding a place, in accordance with change in tourists’ motivations and interest, has resulted in identifying and developing new trends and forms of sustainable tourism worldwide: such as cultural tourism experienced through cultural routes; creative tourism, and accessible tourism, as new forms which avoid mass tourism and the “Mathew Effect” of places enhancing new possibilities of the applied place with social, economic, and environmental benefits. Similar to many other destinations that have been working on basing their branding methodologies relying to new trends of sustainable tourism which have gained contribution to the economical and cultural activities of the area applied, this research explores the possibility and means of transforming Gjirokastra in an sustainable tourism destination by creating a winning strategy for long-term sustainability of the region, potentially impact the visitor experience and at the same time enhancing the economical, social, and environmental factors of the area.

The Kichwa Añangu Community lives in Ecuador's Yasuní National Park. As a community, they have chosen to dedicate their livelihood to community-owned tourism, or what is commonly called turismo comunitario in Ecuador. Tourism brings multiple, ongoing challenges to the Añangu Community. Shifting market demands, growing regional and transnational competition, and large-scale climate events each present ongoing vulnerabilities. Furthermore, the Añangu do not own rights to the petroleum reserves quietly resting under their land. Nonetheless, they persist in their tourism project and have become recognized as a model for community-owned tourism in Ecuador. In part, this thesis seeks to explore why the Añangu Community has chosen to not only pursue, but expand their involvement in community-owned tourism. This research will demonstrate that tourism is locally embraced as a vehicle for livelihood wellbeing, environmental stewardship, and cultural reclamation. The key question then becomes, why is the Añangu Community’s tourism project successful? Here, I argue that through community agency and governance, the Añangu Community is able to practice economic, environmental, and cultural self-determination via their local control of the tourism project.

The thesis presents the results of a critical investigation of the work and role of 'tourism associations' (TAs) as part of the tourism development system at the local scale in England and Wales. Local tourism development groups existed for a century or more before recent notions of community involvement in visitor industry initiatives came to prominence as part of the debate about 'green' tourism, and the study represents the first in-depth investigation of these groups, aimed at offering some guidance for the community tourism organisations advocated by several tourism authors. Guided by systems analysis methodology, the study presents original data on the nature and role of TM and develops theoretical consideration of such groups. Based upon these contributions to understanding, a critical assessment of the potential contribution of TM towards the development of small-scale local visitor industries as part of the local economies in qualitative terms is made. A review of relevant literature establishes that government policy has sought to develop tourism as a component of local economies in urban and rural areas. The sparse literature on tourism associations generally ascribes them lower-order publicity roles rather than the developmental functions that they could perhaps more usefully fulfil. Visitors represent a major economic opportunity for local communities, and economic multiplier studies show that local economies could benefit from becoming more visitor-oriented. However, relatively few areas benefit from conventional tourism development initiatives, particularly in the countryside, and voluntary effort may be necessary for communities to capitalise upon the visitor market. A postal questionnaire survey of a large sample of tourism associations in England and Wales established that these groups exist as a response to a perception of need for such organisations. During the 1970s and '80s there was a surge in the formation rate of TM. They were found to vary in many respects but shared common characteristics, and were classified into four basic types. While most members were businesses, many had representatives from the public sector and other organisations in membership. They undertook a broad range of useful activities, and certain public sector bodies provide financial assistance for aspects of their work. Some operated mainly as trade associations, but there are grounds for regarding all as community tourism groups to some degree. Measures of sophistication based upon the survey data and analyses are proposed, but the level of sophistication appropriate for any individual group depends upon local circumstances. An interview-based case study of four TAs working in rural Herefordshire reflected and validated many of the questionnaire survey conclusions. Each group had different approaches and priorities, particularly regarding the relative balance struck between promotion and development of the south Herefordshire visitor industry. They worked alongside tourism-oriented public sector bodies to varying degrees, and some received financial assistance for certain activities. While quantification of the effects that the TAs had on the visitor industry proved impossible, interviewees' opinions indicated that the work of the groups was valuable and that, without them, the contribution of the visitor industry to the local economy would be reduced. Analysis of the data collection stages showed that the goals of tourism associations are essentially the same as those of the more formal elements of the tourism development system, with marketing as a key focus. The work of TM can produce positive economic benefits for local economies in urban, coastal and rural locations. Recommendations for best practice are made for the associations and their roles, and the public sector is urged to help establish and help support TM. Conclusions drawn are that tourism associations have a valuable developmental role to play alongside their publicity function, and that the broad-membership association type is probably more appropriate for visitor industry development in lesser-known areas than sectoral types.

Over the last decade, tourism has been developing in Saudi Arabia through the pilgrimage to Mecca, seen as a lever for attracting foreigners. This has meant that local stakeholders have primarily focused on the extension of the Holy Places without taking into account the diversification of tourism activities, whereas by working collectively they could enhance the interest of the country's cultural resources. In other words, there is a problem of the uniformity of the Saudi tourism offer. However, cultural sites could be rehabilitated by the sustainable exploitation of existing cultural sites, thus increasing tourist flows and boosting the country's economy. The pertinence and effectiveness of such a strategy would depend on the organization of tourism activities and the manner in which local stakeholders manage to blend the religious, the cultural and opening up to the outside. The present thesis endeavours to contribute to the discussion by suggesting new approaches to encouraging tourists to “pray and stay” – to go from pilgrim to cultural sightseer. In this case study of Saudi Arabia, a country that year in and year out hosts millions of pilgrims, the author seeks to show that, even in a context still strongly dominated by religious activities, the idea of developing cultural tourism is an appropriate analytical framework and could also be a powerful means of boosting regional and local policies. It is shown that cultural development based initially on the religious should meet two essential conditions. Firstly, greater recourse to stakeholder knowledge of tourism would lead to more dynamic public policies and promote partnerships. Secondly, triggering such a process would enable stakeholders to be mobilized and actions coordinated at all institutional levels by pooling skills and having public/private services dedicated to tourism activities

The monograph proposes a methodology of new marketing, structural and economic-management approaches for tourism organizations in the modern conjuncture of tourism for the elderly. Approaches that take into account the consumer behavior of older people and other age groups, retired, proposed in this paper, can be more effectively used to involve these categories in tourism. The aging of the population and demographic changes in the structure of consumers of tourist products require Russian travel companies to optimize their approaches and strategies, rebuild the tourism infrastructure to organize the supply of products in demand in the world tourism market that meet the needs of older people. The assessment of relevance of tourist products and their elements to requirements of elderly tourists is presented. It is intended for teachers, postgraduates and students of higher educational institutions, specialists in the organization of tourist activities, heads of travel agencies, researchers and all those who are interested in the development of tourism activities.

AbstractTourism is the most affected industry by the Covid-19 pandemic. Both market changes and the new tourism development paradigm require reformulation of marketing strategies. More importantly, the new paradigm of tourism development in Indonesia, that is, the quality tourism paradigm, requires a reformulation of marketing strategies. Based on historical data (visitor statistics pre-pandemic) and current market data (during the pandemic), this research performed a cluster analysis to cluster the international tourist markets visiting Indonesia. The clustering was based on several variables: number, spending, and length of stay of tourists from each of the markets. The resulted clusters offer perspectives on the source markets, contributing to the biggest number of tourists, spending per tourist, and the average length of stay. As competition intensifies and the marketing budget shrinks, such market analysis provides sharpened market targeting strategies for the Indonesian tourism government and industry to formulate more targeted marketing strategies post-Covid 19 pandemic.

AbstractThis paper presents a conceptual framework “sitesharing” for understanding touristic consumption within the smart tourism paradigm. Smart tourism considers the use of ICTs as beneficial and essential to the future of tourism. However, the integration of technological intermediaries with the sphere of tourism bears investigation in terms of the wider effects on tourism processes. Taking an interdisciplinary stance, the paper utilizes an internet studies perspective in order to examine the political, social, and cultural implications of the integration of ICTs within tourism. Through the exploration of three key metaphors drawn from across the fields of study: performance, place, and sharing; the paper considers how ICTs influence tourists’ consumption, telling, and experiencing of tourism. The framework of sitesharing argues that sharing, rather than seeing, becomes the requisite practice of tourists with concomitant changes in the form of tourist practice and the shape of tourist places. From the discussion, four emergent dimensions of sitesharing are presented with the intention of informing future tourism research.

AbstractSustainable development of tourism is an important tool to stimulate the development of tourist areas. An important role in this process is played by the local community, which is an important capital in the development of tourism, as well as a beneficiary of changes. Their attitudes, behaviors and involvement in development processes have a key impact on achieving environmental, social and economic goals of sustainable tourism development. The analysis will consider the role of residents in the following aspects: co-creator of the tourist product, beneficiary of the introduced improvements and changes, and direct recipient of the positive and negative effects of the development of tourism and recreation. The development of tourism has contributed to the significant development of regions frequently visited by tourists, but the dissatisfaction of local communities with the inappropriate attitude of tourists and their impact on the quality of life is growing. The aim of the work is to identify the factors of the quality of life of the inhabitants, on the example of Poland, which stimulate and the development of tourism in a sustainable process. The author of this study obtained the consent of selected communes to publish the survey on their websites. A total of 4257 respondents were surveyed. There is a change in the standard of living of users and socio-economic changes in the scale of a territorial unit. These changes are local in nature and are noticeable to both residents and tourists. The author's research, the results of which are presented, indicate that there are groups of local communities that have different views on the implementation of local tourist goals. There are strong links between the quality of life of the local population and their contribution to the tourism product and the problems that tourism brings. The study complements the analysis of individual tourist regions in Poland presented so far and provide a broader view of the opportunities and threats in sustainable development.

AbstractTourist satisfaction has been recognized as a key element for tourism growth and promotion in all sectors of the tourism industry. Although several studies have been published analysing the importance of cruise tourism to local and national economies, only few of them address the relation between cruise tourist satisfaction and tourism expenditures, especially in new ports of call. This paper examines such interrelations to passengers’ expenditure on goods and services during their stay in a port. The analysis is based on a survey on cruise passengers porting in Argostoli, which is the main port of Kefalonia island (Greece). Findings indicate that cruise passengers’ satisfaction is a key element to elevated levels of expenditure during staying on a visited port, since there is a strong correlation between tourists spending and level of tourist satisfaction. This empirical evidence provided from the analysis of the data present implications for policymakers in search of methods to stimulate economic growth and development on tourist destinations.

AbstractSocial robots such as chatbots are regarded as a practical approach to alleviate loneliness. Few studies in the tourism field have focused on loneliness and its impact on the acceptance of chatbots used by the tourism industry. This paper explores the factors influencing tourists’ willingness to use chatbots from the perspective of loneliness by combining theories related to anthropomorphism and the uncanny valley effect. This paper adopts a qualitative research method by taking a semi-structured interview with 15 tourists who have used travel chatbots before. The results show that in addition to perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness, there are three factors (tourist loneliness, perceived anthropomorphism, and user anxiety) that directly influence tourists’ acceptance of travel chatbots. Moreover, tourist loneliness positively influences user anxiety through perceived anthropomorphism. User anxiety has a negative effect on perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness. This research then proposed an extended TAM model from the perspective of tourist loneliness. This paper enriches the research on loneliness as well as chatbots in the tourism field. The results provide suggestions for the practical application of travel chatbots.

AbstractIn the future, artificial intelligence (AI) is likely to substantially change both the tourism industry and tourist behavior. At present, research on artificial intelligence and tourism is receiving widespread attention, but most of them focus on a certain subject or a specific aspect of the tourism industry. For example, artificial intelligence influences the behavior of tourists and tourism enterprises. The analysis of the impact of artificial intelligence on the tourism industry as a system is still insufficient. Therefore, this research proposes a multi-dimensional framework from an industry perspective based on the existing definition of artificial intelligence. The framework involves three aspects: the level of intelligence, task types, and whether artificial intelligence is embedded in robots. The authors use a large number of Chinese practice cases to investigate how AI affects the tourism industry, then put forward a research agenda to analyze how destination government, tourism enterprises and tourist experience will change in the future. Finally, they highlight important issues related to privacy, prejudice and ethics.

The growing importance of tourism for the economic development of the country has led to a change in the awareness of tourism service providers towards continuous improvement of their quality. Improving the quality of tourist services is one of the keys to meeting the needs of increasingly demanding tourists. Tourist satisfaction with the provided service is recognized as one of the key factors by which tourists measure service quality, which also influences their choice of tourist destination. The purpose of this study is to understand the relationship between service quality and tourist satisfaction using the SERVQUAL model. Based on data collected from 87 tourists, it can be concluded that the overall quality of tourist services provided by spa tourism is somewhat satisfactory and requires constant improvement in service quality.

The rapid development of tourism in Albania has brought not only positive economic consequences, but at the same time, it has also brought out the problems and challenges of the future. Since Vlora represents one of the most important tourist destinations in Albania, this article deals with these problems and challenges for this tourist destination. Tourism represents one of the most significant alternatives for the sustainable and long-term use of these values, and the general social-economic development of the country, especially in unfavorable economic times. This is the reason that tourism was one of the priority sectors in the attention of almost all governments of the post-communist period. In addition, tourism continues to remain one of the most underdeveloped sectors in our country. This article is based on primary data collected from a sample survey of this tourist destination. Tourism development, or lack thereof, is a direct reflection of society's progress. This paper deals with a number of elements that affect the development of humanity, and the connection between the progress of human culture and tourism. In this way, they will try to find out the role of tourism in society, and finally the perspective in the future. Today, tourism has become a global phenomenon and certainly one of the most massive phenomena in world relations. The tourist market is marked by a new reorganization: new generations of tourists are being created, new tourist products, tourists are looking for something new and unexperienced on their vacation, thus changing the way the tourist offer operates, all influenced by globalization, global warming, political and security trends.

Today, the tourism industry has grown rapidly and many destinations have been recognised as tourist niches in a bid to stay competitive in the industry. Island tourism is one of the most popular tourism niches. Island tourism in Malaysia has lured tourists from all over the world to come to Malaysia, offering tourist a unique and unforgettable tourism experience. It has become one of the most famous types of activities tourists. Moreover, tourists are showing an increasing interest in local foods at the destination and dining has become a special experience while on vacation. Dining itself is a pleasurable sensory experience that is a key part of the holiday experience, which influences a tourists’ experience and makes it memorable and this in turn influences the tourist’s intention to revisit the destination, especially an island destination. However, the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the subsequent Movement Control Order (MCO) and COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) enforced to control the spread of the pandemic have significantly influenced tourists dining behaviours and perceptions particularly with regard to dine-in options at any food establishment/outlets.

The strategy of the geopolitical component of the Arctic and the North is being updated. Tourism plays an important role in solving social problems, ensuring employment growth, and improving the well-being of the population. In the global aspect, tourism is one of the important areas that affect the growth of the economy, including the development of economic activity areas such as the services of travel companies, transport, communications, trade, production of souvenirs and other products, food and others, moreover, it represents a powerful innovative resource for the socio-economic development of the region. The concept of the development of Arctic tourism in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the most northern territory of Russia, reflects the current situation in the northern regions of the republic, its recreational resources, and tourism potential. Thus, unique natural, historical and cultural resources and objects of historical and archaeological heritage are concentrated on the territory of this region. Such a wide range of potentially attractive tourist sites and complexes can be very popular with Russian and foreign tourists, as well as residents of the republic. The relevance of the research is also connected with the world narrative associated with global environmental at societal challenges – climate changes and sustainable development of the arctic territories and indigenous peoples. One of the important components of Arctic tourism in Russia should be the paleontological tourism in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) because of the big zone of permafrost. The promotion of paleontological tourist destinations and knowledge in the modern world is associated with unique finds of fossil fauna (primarily related to the Mesozoic era), as well as ancient monuments associated with the remains of the first people.

Purpose – The aim of this paper is to identify tourists' satisfaction with ICT performance in two tourist destinations in Serbia. In addition, one of the goals of the research is to determine the weaknesses and strengths of the tourist offer at the destinations, in order to choose an adequate tourism development strategy in the future to improve the competitiveness of the tourist offer in Serbia and possibly find patterns of development between different destinations. Methodology – Measuring the importance and satisfaction with the performance of smart technologies was carried out in two destinations, Novi Sad and Vrnjačka Banja (Serbia). IPA analysis was used to assess the importance and performance of 38 attributes related to ICT in the selected destinations. Exploratory factor analysis was used to identify groups of smart technologies that tourists consider when evaluating smart tourist destinations. Findings – When examining individual components, the ICT tourism offer in Novi Sad and Vrnjačka Banja are evaluated as fairly low. The results of the analysis showed that Novi Sad, is a more competitive destination than Vrnjačka Banja in terms of the deployment of smart technologies. Contribution – The analysis of weaknesses and strengths can be particularly insightful in revealing what is prioritized more and what is viewed as less crucially, for the overall experience and satisfaction of tourists in order to improve the tourist experience. The results of this research provide practical knowledge for DMOs and tourism companies, to understand the benefits of smart tourism as an important direction in improving the competitiveness of a tourist destination.

Tourism is the basic element that can ensure the dynamics of a country's development. Based on the intensification of tourist flows, tourism attracts tourists, it can contribute to increasing the attractiveness of the country not only as a tourist destination but also as a source of investment attraction. Although in the Republic of Moldova there are a multitude of forms of tourism that have been practiced since ancient times, such as: rural, religious, spa, wine tourism, there are also new forms of tourism such as gastronomic tourism, which is a relatively new form of tourism that has emerged since the 2000s, when gastronomic tours begin to appear. However, in our country more and more people are aware of the prospects of this direction of development of the tourism industry, because Moldova has an enormous potential of traditional dishes that can be tasted by tourists. Nettle represents a great potential for the development of gastronomic tourism due to its benefits for the human body, it has been used for hundreds of years for food purposes in various preparations or in a dry state for medicinal purposes, for teas. However, nowadays due to multiple alternatives, nettle has lost popularity even among local consumers. The research of this problem is predestined to identify the ways in which this product can be exploited in public catering units, tourist hostels, rest bases, contributing to the attraction of tourists passionate about gastronomy. To examine the problem addressed, we used a questionnaire-based survey to determine consumers' preferences towards nettles and an interview-based survey to identify the culinary offer of tourist guesthouses and rest centers that contain nettle plants. Following the study and analysis of the surveys used, we concluded that most consumers know about nettle plants and their use for various purposes: food, medicine, cosmetics, but most of them do not consume this product very often or have never consumed it. We also determined that very few of the public catering units, tourist guesthouses and rest centers in the country offer nettle dishes on the menu, which contributes to the low level of nettle consumption. Thus, in order to capitalize on a product with a lot of health benefits, at the same time a product that transmits a valuable load, traditions and customs of our ancestors, we must include in the offer of tourist guesthouses preparations made from nettles, illustrating the specifics of traditional cuisine.

Tourist numbers are rising postpandemic. While a needed boost for the travel/hospitality sector, accompanying overcrowding can be daunting for tourists and locals alike. In his P-Insights report, Dr. Alan Wong, Founder of G&D Hospitality, Tourism & Educational Consulting, gives short- and long-term practical advice with examples on avoiding overtourism based on 11 strategies adopted by the UN World Tourist Organization and four from his own long experience focused on ecotourism, tourism taxes, technology, and, most importantly, education.

This brief presents simulations of an Ebola scare in the Caribbean, including three highly tourism-dependent economies, The Bahamas, Barbados, and Jamaica. On the basis of the experience of Mexico in 2009 with swine flu, we simulate a short but sharp drop in tourist arrivals resulting from tourists' worries about Ebola. The Caribbean is special in that tourism contributes directly and indirectly up to half of its GDP. The simulations indicate that the volatility of tourism combined with that dependence creates significant vulnerability for the region. Under the worst-case scenario, a noticeable impact could be expected even in countries with a smaller dependence on tourism. In addition, declines could also be expected for employment and revenues. However, 'pandemic scares' can be short-lived and the simulations indicate that the Caribbean would be able to absorb a short tourism drop. The intensity and duration of the outfall in tourism would depend on the real and perceived preparedness of the affected countries, highlighting that countries in the Caribbean need to not only avoid or minimize any Ebola cases but also ensure that tourists perceive these countries as safe places.

This paper analyzes tourist inflows as a determinant of merchandise exports for the Pacific and finds that inbound tourism to Pacific developing member countries significantly increases merchandise exports from these economies. Exports are further boosted if international tourists come from countries with which Pacific developing member countries have a shared language, formed an economic partnership through free trade agreements, and have easy visa policies. The paper recommends that inbound tourism to the Pacific is leveraged to diversify economic activities and develop industries, such as garments or souvenir-related manufacturing.

Despite the valuable presence of women in informal economies, there is still limited knowledge of the gender dynamics of the informal sector and its workers. Using a gender lens, this Policy Note investigates women informal workers’ experiences in Boracay’s tourism industry. It finds that competition with other industry players, seasonality of demand for tourism activities, limited tourist interactions due to designated locations by the government, and sexual harassment and prejudice often confront women’s economic operations in the island. To transition into the formal economy, the need to strengthen gendered data on informal tourism workers, develop training and capacity-building programs, and conduct gender sensitivity workshops for policymakers, policy implementers, and informal workers alike are emphasized.
