TCP is the most widely used protocol in internet which provides the reliable end to end data communications for users, and the TCP congestion control is one of the key technology that ensures the internet normal functions. However, TCP was designed on the terms of wire network at first, in which congestion was the only reason for division lost and accordingly TCP control was made. In the wireless network there are many error codes, the transfer mistakes easily make division lost and the network congestion is not the only reason for data lost any more, so if we continue to use the traditional TCP control, the transfer speed and the network function will be down. This paper offers a DS-TCP solution based on mobile algorithm that can efficiently reduce the data packet lost in the wireless network, increase the TCP throughput and network utilization and improve the TCP functions in the mobile IP wireless network.

Currently integrated network controller could implement data transmission through Internet. But commonly they have higher power consumption, fewer channels which could not be changed and less TCP/IP connection. A remote data acquisition technology based on embedded real-time operating system RT-Thread is presented in this paper. Server and client were constructed respectively according to TCP/IP protocol stack provided by operating system itself. Hardware circuit was centered with large capacity enhanced MCU named STM32F103ZET6. Ethernet interface chip DM9000AEP and network connection HR911105A were applied in our system. Socket API interface functions provided by RT-Thread were utilized in client and server software programs. Experimental results show that this system needs less hardware sources to implement more TCP/IP connections during remote data acquisition process.

Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) in Network Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems (NIDPS) typically involves the matching of packet payloads against attack signatures in the form of fixed strings and regular expressions. As an attack pattern may span multiple IP fragments or TCP segments, accurate DPI requires that the traffic is reassembled prior to analysis of the payload data stream. Although hardware acceleration of the TCP layer, including reassembly, is well known in the form of TCP Offload Engines for Network Interface Cards, only limited research has been conducted into reassembly architectures suited to the particular requirements of DPI systems. The challenging requirements include the tracking and fragment/segment reordering of a potentially very large number of streams in addition to dealing with subtle ambiguities in IP fragmentation and TCP segmentation using target based reassembly or traffic normalization. In this article, the authors present a combined hardware and software architecture which harnesses the resources of the latest FPGA technology to improve on existing research proposals.

Video monitoring systems are undergoing an evolution from conventional analog to digital clarification to provide better rate and security over internet protocols. In addition, analog surveillance becomes insufficient to face enormous demand of security of system contains more than hundreds of camera often deployed in hotels environments far away from room control. This paper presents the design and simulation of a video monitoring scheme in excess of a transmission control protocol/internet protocol (TCP/IP) system using MATLAB. Sophisticated cameras could record directly high-definition digital videos based on digital technology which simply communicate the control room relaying on ordinary internet protocol infrastructure networks. This technology provides a flexible network interface over a wide variety of heterogeneous technology networks. Though, the acceptance of IP designed for video monitoring pretense severe difficulties in terms of power processing, system dependability, required bandwidth, and security of networks. The advantage of IP based video monitoring system has been investigated over conventional analog systems and the challenges of the method are described. The open research issues are still requiring a final solution to permits complete abandon against conventional technology of analog methods. In conclusion, the method to tackle the purpose of video monitoring in actual operation is proposed and verified properly by means of model simulation.

To facilitate the merging of wireless access technologies and the traditional Internet, the core protocols for data communication should be robust and have low overhead. In this thesis, we propose refinements to the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) that improve its cost efficiency over wireless links.TCP is unable to distinguish between congestion and error induced losses, reordered, or delayed segments. A reordering robust TCP would make it possible to simplify network elements, now performing explicit actions to prevent reordering, and open up for deployment of new technologies that naturally cause reordering. We propose TCP-Aix; a set of TCP modifications that improves the robustness of TCP to reordering and delay spikes. TCP-Aix decouples loss recovery and congestion control actions. We also present an algorithm called the winthresh algorithm for computing a duplicate acknowledgment threshold based on TCP buffer space and current send window size. The results show that TCP-Aix with the winthresh algorithm is able to maintain almost constant performance even in scenarios frequently displaying long reordering durations. It is also fair towards competing standards-compliant TCP flows.In wireless networks, where the links out of efficiency constraints are more error prone than wired links, the error and the reordering sensitivity of TCP have motivated link layer protocols that perform retransmissions and enforce in-order delivery. We investigate the potential gains of using a reordering robust TCP, like TCP-Aix, with a wireless link layer that allows out-of-order delivery, compared to using in-order delivery with a standardscompliant TCP. We found that the smoothness of TCP is strongly affected by the link layer configuration. In-order delivery leads to burstier traffic and larger network layer buffering needs, than out-of-order delivery and TCP-Aix. The interference and power consumption in foremost wireless networks make it important to reduce the communication overhead. The TCP receiver acknowledges each or every second segment. We study how to reduce the acknowledgment frequency while preserving throughput performance also in wireline networks where frequent acknowledgments generally are not problematic. To preserve throughput, the sender should use byte counting and be involved in determining the acknowledgment frequency. The results show that acknowledging four segments per send window is sufficient to maintain throughput performance also in wireline scenarios. This indicates that a lower acknowledgment frequency than provided through the delayed acknowledgment algorithm is possible today for general usage.A key service to the successful merging of traditional Internet technology and wireless cellular networks is Voice over IP (VoIP). Channels to be shared by both VoIP and TCP-based traffic is being considered for wireless cellular systems. It is challenging to provide VoIP over a shared wireless cellular channel, because VoIP is a low bitrate service with high demands on channel availability to bound the delay. The scheduling algorithm, controlling access to the channel, is central to achieve efficiency as well as to satisfy user demands. We study how a scheduler for a mix of VoIP and interactive (TCP-based) traffic should be designed for High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA). In particular, we find that slowly increasing the priority of a VoIP session relative TCP-based services is important to take advantage of the varying network conditions.

The sixteen-bit well-known port number is often overlooked as a network identifier in Internet communications. Its purpose at the most fundamental level is only to demultiplex flows of traffic. Several unintended uses of the port number evolved from associating services with a list of well-known port numbers. This thesis documents those unintended consequences in an effort to describe the port number's influence on Internet players from ISPs to application developers and individual users. Proposals and examples of moving away from well-known port numbers to randomly assigned ones are then presented, with analysis of impacts on the political and economic systems on which Internet communication is dependent.

To detect network changes and network troubles, Transpondertech needs a tool that can make network measurements.

The purpose of this thesis has been to find measurable network properties that best reflect the status of a network, to find methods to measure these proerties and to implement these methods in one single tool. The resulting tool is called NetworkPerf and can measure the following network properties: availability, round-trip delay, delay variation, number of hops, intermediate hosts, available bandwidth, available ports, and maximum allowed packet size. Together, these properties give a good picture of the status of a network connection.

The thesis also presents the methods used for meassuring these properties in the tool.

The concept of Next Generation Network NGN (Next Generation Network), which uses TCP / IP technology as a basis for building multiservice networks, gives the operator great opportunities to organize a virtually unlimited number of services. But at the same time it sets new challenges in terms of creating and implementing new methods of traffic service. The struggle for resources affects the quality of service for all types of traffic, including IPTV traffic. The modern model of differentiated service provides for the division of traffic into classes with giving them different priorities in service. The problem of establishing priorities for different types of traffic was solved by the method of reducing individual quality indicators to a generalized value function of the additive type using weights.

Eftersom tekniken är relativt ung så finns det fortfarande mycket att lära om hur det fungerar och hur den används. Projektet behandlar fördelar och nackdelar samt vilka hot som finns och hur man kan känna sig säker när man använder IP-telefoni till vardags. Det primära objektivet med projektet är att få en helhetsbild och förstå hur tekniken verkligen fungerar. Vidare behandlas telefonens historia då det är viktigt att se var tekniken har sina rötter och hur den utvecklats sedan dess. Som en röd tråd från telefonens teknologi och det publika telefonnätets rötter görs en jämförelse mellan de två teknologierna för att se skillanderna och förmodade fördelar och nackdelar med de båda systemen. Olika sorters protokoll som har ett nära förhållande till IP-telefoni så som SIP, RTP, UDP och IP behandlas. För att få en sanningsenlig bild över hur vardagliga användare upplever IP-telefoni så har en enkätundersökning angående vanor och möjliga problem gjorts hos de anställda på Region Skåne.

This thesis presents an investigation of how to extend the reach of a Bluetooth personal area network by introducing the concept of Bluetooth Hotspots. Currently two Bluetooth devices cannot communicate with each other unless they are within radio range, since Bluetooth is designed as a cable-replacement technology for wireless communications over short ranges. An investigation was done into the feasibility of creating Bluetooth hotspots that allow distant Bluetooth devices to communicate with each other by transporting their communications between these hotspots via an alternative network infrastructure such as an IP network. Two approaches were investigated, masquerading of remote devices by the local hotspot to allow seamless communications and proxying services on remote devices by providing them on a local hotspot using a distributed service discovery database. The latter approach was used to develop applications capable of transporting Bluetooth’s RFCOMM and L2CAP protocols. Quantitative tests were performed to establish the throughput performance and latency of these transport applications. Furthermore, a number of selected Bluetooth services were tested which lead us to conclude that most data-based protocols can be transported by the system.

Especially in the packet-switchenvironment, Ethernet testing has become an essential part for deploying a reliable network.Over a long distance Ethernet testing parameter for analyzing network performance must havetwo devices attached and synchronized.

Saab Microwave Systems is among the leading suppliers of radar systems developing groundbased,naval and air-borne radar systems. To ensure the correct functionality, the developerwants to verify the performance of computer network and looking for a suitable solution.

A software application is required to verify and test the functionality of the Ethernet network andto verify the functionality and performance of the TCP/IP stack of newly added node. Theprograms shall be easily ported to different operating systems and must not depend on specificproduct properties.A software application, “NetBurst”, is developed for Ethernet functionality testing. Theapplication is vendor and platform independent.

AbstractDetection of unknown attacks is challenging due to the lack of exemplary attack vectors. However, previously unknown attacks are a significant danger for systems due to a lack of tools for protecting systems against them, especially in fast-evolving Internet of Things (IoT) technology. The most widely used approach for malicious behaviour of the monitored system is detecting anomalies. The vicious behaviour might result from an attack (both known and unknown) or accidental breakdown. We present a Net Anomaly Detector (NAD) system that uses one-class classification Machine Learning techniques to detect anomalies in the network traffic. The highly modular architecture allows the system to be expanded with adapters for various types of networks. We propose and discuss multiple approaches for increasing detection quality and easing the component deployment in unknown networks by known attacks emulation, exhaustive feature extraction, hyperparameter tuning, detection threshold adaptation and ensemble models strategies. Furthermore, we present both centralized and decentralized deployment schemes and present preliminary results of experiments for the TCP/IP network traffic conducted on the CIC-IDS2017 dataset.

Motivating students to learn TCP/IP network fundamentals is often difficult because students find the subject rather technical when it is presented using a lecture format. To overcome this problem we have prepared some hands-on exercises (practicals) that give students a practical learning experience in TCP/IP networking. The practicals are designed around a multi-user, multi-tasking operating system and are suitable for classroom use in undergraduate TCP/IP networking courses. The effectiveness of these practicals has been evaluated both formally by students and informally in discussion within the teaching team. The implementation of the practicals was judged to be successful because of the positive student feedback and that students improved their test results. This chapter describes the practicals and their impact on student learning and comprehension, based on the author’s experiences in undergraduate computer networking courses.

The Internet today is a combination of NSFnet and commercially available backbone services disseminating information on the decentralized networks all over the world. It is estimated that there are over 30,000 computer networks connecting over 2 million computers with each other on the Web. In view of the increasing use of electronic information sources through the networks the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) has been designed and made essential for each user networks to abide with the protocol standards which enables the data transfer and retrieval at source.

Data play an essential role in business today. Most, if not all, e-business applications are database driven, and data backup is a necessary element of managing data. Backup and recovery techniques have always been critical to any database and as real-time databases are used more often, real-time online backup strategies become critical to optimize performance. In this chapter, current backup methods are discussed and evaluated for response time and cost. A prototype device driver, RORIB (Real-time Online Remote Information Backup) is presented and discussed. An experiment is conducted comparing the performance, in terms of response time, of the prototype and several current backup strategies. RORIB provides an economic and efficient solution for real-time online remote backup. Significant improvement in response time is demonstrated using this prototype device driver when compared to other types of software driven backup protocols. Another advantage of RORIB is that the cost is negligible when compared to other hardware solutions for backup, such as Storage Area Networks (SAN) and Private Backup Networks (PBN). Additionally, this multilayered device driver uses TCP/IP, (Telecommunications Protocol/Internet Protocol) which allows the driver to be a “drop in” filter between existing hardware layers and thus reduces the implementation overhead and improves portability. Linux is used as the operating system in this experiment because of its open source nature and its similarity to UNIX. This also increases the portability of this approach. The driver is transparent to both the user and the database management system. Other potential applications and future research directions for this technology are presented. The goal of this work is to show a multifaceted approach that uses software and hardware to provide a cost effective and efficient real-time backup system for databases. This chapter explores the use of a specialized network card and corresponding software to provide service that is demonstrably better than current methods, due to cost containment, ease of operation, real time backup capabilities, or combinations of all of these. Prior to this research, the only option that approached this level of service was the use of an extremely expensive Private Backup Network (PBN) that does not adequately address the issue of obtaining real-time capabilities. Therefore, this research shows a true real-time system that is hardware and software independent and that can be used by any type of system to achieve the desired features.

High Altitude Stratospheric Platforms (HASPs) have gained much of attention from the scientific society and the communication industry in the recent years. Their use in the Next Generation Networks can offer enhanced coverage and facilitate the implementation of several heterogeneous wireless networks schemes. In this chapter, the main aspects of the HASP-related technology are presented. Emphasis is given in the ways the intrinsic characteristics of these platforms can be used effectively in order to compensate for the disadvantages of both the existing terrestrial and satellite solutions. Antennas and coverage planning, capacity and interference, call admission control, handover, mobility management, networking and TCP/IP performance are the main issues addressed. The provided mathematical tools and the state-of-the-art techniques presented here, can be useful to engineers interested in designing and evaluating performance of HASP-aided hybrid networks.
