A CMOS Full Adder is designed using Tanner EDA Tool based on 0.25µm CMOS Technology. In the arithmetic logic unit (ALU), the full adder cell is one of the most frequently utilized digital circuit components and the fundamental functional unit of all computational circuits. Right now, a lot of work has been done to improve the architecture and functionality of full adder circuit designs. In this research, two innovative 1-bit full adder cell designs are developed using ten transistors and 0.25mm CMOS technology (10-T). Tanner software tools will be used in the design of the CMOS full adder to simulate the schematic and layout as well as compare the schematic and layout for the purpose of determining precise design limitations. As part of this, we are going to perform the simulation of the CMOS full adder using T-SPICE of Tanner EDA and its layout design using the Microwind tool. The parameters such as power consumption, Area, Propagation Delay, and Power Delay Product (PDP) are evaluated to analyze the proposed one-bit full adder

<p><strong><em> </em></strong>In this paper, The Design and Implementation low power Current Steering Digital to Analog Converter in 45 nm technology using GDI Logic using TANNER TOOL, V15 is presented. This architecture gives the most optimized results in terms of speed, resolution and power. The designed 6-bit DAC operates with two supply voltages, 1 V and 3.3 V. The simulation result shows the transient analysis waveforms of current Steering DAC. The average power dissipation is 364.06 μW. The tool used for simulation is Tanner S-Edit and T-Spice. Comparisons show that using GDI logic, it consists low power as compare to the CMOS logic.</p>

Abstract Background We evaluated the inter-rater agreement between self-assessed Tanner staging and clinical examination and the intra-individual agreement of self-assessed information on various puberty markers in late adolescents from the longitudinal nationwide Puberty Cohort, a sub-cohort of the Danish National Birth Cohort (DNBC). Methods We invited 715 children from the ongoing Puberty Cohort between June 2016 and January 2017. In total, 366 children (51%) returned an add-on questionnaire identical to the questionnaire used to collect information on puberty markers, including Tanner staging, in the Puberty Cohort. Of these, 197 (54%) also participated in a clinical examination with Tanner staging. We used percentage agreement and weighted kappa statistics to evaluate the inter-rater and intra-individual agreement. Results Due to late entry, more than 75% of children were Tanner stage 4 or above at clinical examination. In girls, the inter-rater agreement for pubic hair and breast staging was 54% and 52%, respectively, yielding weighted kappas of fair strength. In boys, pubic hair and genital staging agreed in 55% and 33%, respectively, corresponding to weighted kappas of fair to moderate strength. Boys tended to underestimate genitalia staging consistently. The intra-individual agreement on Tanner staging was 75–77% in girls and 69% in boys, whereas the intra-individual agreement on axillary hair and acne was above 92%. Conclusions Self-assessment of late stages of pubertal development may be misclassified, leading to random errors in studies of puberty timing. However, self-assessment continues to serve as an important time- and cost-saving tool in large prospective puberty cohorts.

Abstract Pelvic ultrasonography (US) is a quick, non-invasive and low-cost method, and doppler analysis facilitates assessment of flow impedance measurement in the uterine vascular tree. The pulsatility index (PI) reflects blood flow impedance in the vessel distal to the sampling point and has been suggested as a parameter to define pubertal development. In order to evaluate the PI and US measurements of uterus and ovaries in girls with different pubertal stages, we performed a cross-sectional study in girls with normal pubertal development. US and Doppler assessed PI of the uterine arteries (defined as the difference between the peak systolic flow and end-diastolic flow divided by the mean maximum flow velocity), endometrial thickness, uterine and ovarian volumes were evaluated. All the US exams were performed with the same equipment by the same radiologist. Clinical data such as the age of menarche, pubarche and thelarche were recorded. Statistical analyses were performed in SPSS, with ANOVA test, Spearman correlation and ROC curve with Youden. One hundred and sixty-nine girls aged 5-16 years (mean 11.3 ± 1.8) who performed two hundred and two pelvic US were included (Tanner 1=20%, Tanner 2=22%, Tanner 3=23%, Tanner 4=17%, Tanner 5=17%). Mean age of thelarche, pubarche and menarche were 11.1 ± 1.8, 10.2 ± 1.2 and 12.2 ± 1.1 years respectively. Prepubertal girls (Tanner 1) had mean PI significantly higher than girls in initial puberty (Tanner 2 and 3 grouped) and in late puberty (Tanner 4 and 5 grouped), respectively 6.5 ± 2.27 vs. 4.15 ± 1.55 vs. 2.82 ± 1.06, p&lt;0.001 for all the comparisons. ROC curve analysis demonstrated that the PI is able to identify the onset of puberty with an area under the curve of 0.80 ± 0.04, P&lt;0.001, and a cutoff point of IP=5.05 presented a sensitivity of 0.77 and a specificity of 0.80 to identify the onset of puberty. When we combined the cutoffs of IP &lt;5.05 plus uterine volume &gt;3.75 cm³, we found a sensitivity of 0.72 and specificity of 0.90 to detect puberty. We identified a strong negative correlation between PI and uterine volume (rs=-0.72, p&lt;0.001) and a moderate negative correlation with endometrial thickness (rs=-0.68, p&lt;0.001) and right (rs=-0.60, p&lt;0.001) and left (rs=-0.59, p&lt;0.001) ovarian volumes. In conclusion, we found a significant reduction of the PI during pubertal development, reflecting a progressive increase in blood flow to the uterus, which can be a valuable non-invasive and highly specific tool to confirm the onset of puberty.

We designed two different multipliers in order to reduce the power consumption, propagation delay and also area occupied by the multiplier. Previously there is a multiplier using DADDA algorithm that consumes high power and propagation delay also more in order to overcome that problems we designed multiplier using WALLACE algorithm. This multiplier can overcome those drawbacks. For more efficient multiplier we used GDI (Gate Diffusion Input) technology used along with the WALLACE algorithm. This model has been designed using Tanner EDA tool.

Rowan Williams is among the best and most perceptive contemporary theologians in the English speaking world. Given his position as Archbishop of Canterbury, he is of necessity caught-up in the quest for Christian unity. His ecumenical theology can be discerned, however, not only in his directly ecumenical writings and speeches as Archbishop but also in his general theological approach. He emphasises Eucharist and baptism and whilst these may seem commonplace in ecumenical dialogue, nevertheless his analysis of the implications of baptism for believers offers something genuinely new in ecumenical thinking about the status of the baptised. Despite the difficulties in the present state of relations between the Anglican Communion and the Roman Catholic Church, Dr Williams’ theology does offer a hermeneutical tool that, if followed consistently by both churches, might enable the question of reunion to be placed in a different context, although of itself it cannot resolve the new problems that have been placed as obstacles on the road to corporate reunion.

This master thesis have been done to come up with different concepts that could solve problems that is connected to vibrations in tandem rollers. The main problem is that the vibrations makes it harder to remove asphalt with the built in scraper, creating an uneven contact with the drum and the scraper. The new concepts should improve the machines ability to remove asphalt and decrease the amount of maintenance that is needed. To understand what the new tool needs to do some functional analyses have been done. To create new concepts the triz method have been used. The different concept was evaluated with a pugh matrix and swot. In the final part the focus is on how the best concept could become better. The final concept locks the scraper geometrically so it moves the same way as the drum. This makes it so it always are at the same distance to the drum.
Den här uppsatsen handlar om olika koncept som kan lösa problem som är kopplade till vibrationer från tandem vältar. Huvudproblemet som har varit i fokus är att vibrationerna från valsen försvårar möjligheten att ta bort asfalt med den inbyggda skrapan. Detta ger en ojämn kontakt mellan skrapan och valsen. De nya koncepten borde förbättra maskinen förmåga att ta bort asfalt och minska det nödvändiga underhållet. För att förstå vad det nya verktyget behöver göra har det gjort funktionsanalyser. För att genera nya koncepts har verktyget triz använts. De olika konceptet har utvärderats med en pugh matris och swot metoden. Sista delen av arbetet handlar om hur den bästa konceptet kan bli bättre. The slutgiltiga förslaget går ut på att man låser skrapa geometriskt så att den rör sig på samma sätt som valsen. Detta gör att den alltid håller sig på samma avstånd till valsen.

La presente dissertazione investiga la possibilità di ottimizzare l’uso di energia a bordo di una nave per trasporto di prodotti chimici e petrolchimici. Il software sviluppato per questo studio può essere adattato a qualsiasi tipo di nave. Tale foglio di calcolo fornisce la metodologia per stimare vantaggi e miglioramenti energetici, con accuratezza direttamente proporzionale ai dati disponibili sulla configurazione del sistema energetico e sui dispositivi installati a bordo. Lo studio si basa su differenti fasi che permettono la semplificazione del lavoro; nell’introduzione sono indicati i dati necessari per svolgere un’accurata analisi ed è presentata la metodologia adottata. Inizialmente è fornita una spiegazione sul layout dell’impianto, sulle sue caratteristiche e sui principali dispositivi installati a bordo. Vengono dunque trattati separatamente i principali carichi, meccanico, elettrico e termico. In seguito si procede con una selezione delle principali fasi operative della nave: è seguito tale approccio in modo da comprendere meglio la ripartizione della richiesta di potenza a bordo della nave e il suo sfruttamento. Successivamente è svolto un controllo sul dimensionamento del sistema elettrico: ciò aiuta a comprendere se la potenza stimata dai progettisti sia assimilabile a quella effettivamente richiesta sulla nave. Si ottengono in seguito curve di carico meccanico, elettrico e termico in funzione del tempo per tutte le fasi operative considerate: tramite l’uso del software Visual Basic Application (VBA) vengono creati i profili di carico che possono essere gestiti nella successiva fase di ottimizzazione. L’ottimizzazione rappresenta il cuore di questo studio; i profili di potenza ottenuti dalla precedente fase sono gestiti in modo da conseguire un sistema che sia in grado di fornire potenza alla nave nel miglior modo possibile da un punto di vista energetico. Il sistema energetico della nave è modellato e ottimizzato mantenendo lo status quo dei dispositivi di bordo, per i quali sono considerate le configurazioni di “Load following”, “two shifts” e “minimal”. Una successiva investigazione riguarda l’installazione a bordo di un sistema di accumulo di energia termica, così da migliorare lo sfruttamento dell’energia disponibile. Infine, nella conclusione, sono messi a confronto i reali consumi della nave con i risultati ottenuti con e senza l’introduzione del sistema di accumulo termico. Attraverso la configurazione “minimal” è possibile risparmiare circa l’1,49% dell’energia totale consumata durante un anno di attività; tale risparmio è completamente gratuito poiché può essere raggiunto seguendo alcune semplici regole nella gestione dell’energia a bordo. L’introduzione di un sistema di accumulo termico incrementa il risparmio totale fino al 4,67% con un serbatoio in grado di accumulare 110000 kWh di energia termica; tuttavia, in questo caso, è necessario sostenere il costo di installazione del serbatoio. Vengono quindi dibattuti aspetti economici e ambientali in modo da spiegare e rendere chiari i vantaggi che si possono ottenere con l’applicazione di questo studio, in termini di denaro e riduzione di emissioni in atmosfera.

Undersökningen handlar om en kommuns arbete med implementering av surfplattor i förskoleverksamheten samt pedagogernas upplevelse av den nya tekniken i förskolan. I studien belyses pedagogernas syn på surfplattan som ett pedagogiskt verktyg. I undersökningen användes kvalitativa intervjuer som metod. Valet föll sig naturligt då det är en primär metod för att få fram den information man söker. I resultatet visar det sig att kommunen inte hade någon plan på hur arbetet med surfplattor i förskolan skulle se ut. Det visar sig även att pedagogerna saknar en arbetsplan och kompetens för att använda surfplattan som ett pedagogiskt verktyg. Pedagogerna lyfter tidsbrist som en bidragande faktor till att arbetet inte utvecklas som de önskar. Slutsatserna blir att surfplattan som införskaffades för två år sedan ännu inte har blivit implementerad i den dagliga verksamheten. Enligt min undersökning saknas det både kontinuitet och arbetsplan i arbetet med surfplattan.
The study is an investigating of a municipality’s work with implementations of tablet computer in preschool, and the pedagogues’ experience of the new technique. In the study the pedagogues’ experiences of the tablet computers are illuminated. Quantitative interviews were used to receive the required information, since it is a principal method applicable for this study. The result shows that the municipality did not have any plans for how the work with the tablet computers in preschool was going to proceed. It is also obvious that the pedagogues don’t have the competence nor the work plan to use the tablet computer as a pedagogical tool. The pedagogues are mentioning lack of time as a contributory factor in the matter. The conclusion is that the tablet computer, obtained two years ago, has not been implemented in the daily work. There is a lack in both continuity and work plan when it comes to the tablet computer according to my study.

The source selection phase in government acquisitions is so complicated in nature because it involves multicriteria decision making that is supposed to respond to various requirements and subjectivity is usually inevitable in this kind of a decision making process. The purpose of this project is to demonstrate how the USAF's current source selection method (color rating method) is incompetent in showing small differences between proposed products, how this inadequacy leads to subjective decisions, and that the use of information technology tools can augment objectivity in this process. In this study, USAF's KC-X Tanker Replacement Program has been selected as the program to be used to frame the research questions. Two models with two versions built on Microsoft Excel spreadsheets using publicly available KC-X program data are used to compare the USAF's color rating method and weighted sum method, which is a multi-criteria decision making tool. It is presented that if the USAF had used the weighted sum method as its evaluation method, the winner of the KC-X program could have been different. The findings prove that the color rating method is not capable of reflecting small differences and information technology tools can help decision makers choose the best value offeror with less subjectivity.

Au cours des dernières décennies, le rendement des cellules photovoltaïques a été considérablement amélioré, atteignant presque la limite théorique de Shockley-Queisser. À ce stade, une compréhension profonde des propriétés des matériaux et de leur évolution au cours des processus de fabrication des cellules solaires devient de plus en plus cruciale pour améliorer encore le rendement de la conversion des cellules. Pour cette raison, ma thèse a été axée sur le développement des outils de caractérisation in-situ, qui permettent d'étudier les propriétés des matériaux en temps réel pendant les processus. Les outils ont été développés sur la base de techniques de photoluminescence, dans lesquelles l'échantillon (matériaux semi-conducteurs) est optiquement excité et émet simultanément des photons avec une énergie approximativement égale à la bande interdite des matériaux. Dans cette thèse, trois outils de caractérisation in situ seront présentés.La SSPL in-situ, basée sur la technique de photoluminescence à l'état d'équilibre, est développée pour étudier les propriétés des matériaux semi-conducteurs au cours des processus en mesurant directement l'intensité du signal PL. Après la mise à niveau du système d'acquisition optique, l'outil a été utilisé pour étudier l'évolution des propriétés de surface de silicium cristallin, passivée par l'oxyde d'aluminium (Al2O3) développé par ALD et de silicium amorphe hydrogéné (a-Si:H) développé par PECVD, sous exposition au plasma Ar/H2 dans différentes conditions. À partir de ces expériences, les différences comportement entre l’échantillon passivé par Al2O3 et l’échantillon passivé par a-Si:H ont été observées et discutées. De plus, grâce à l'expérience d'exposition au plasma à travers une fenêtre optique (MgF2), la cause de la dégradation de la passivation de surface induite par le plasma était déterminée. Enfin et surtout, la relation entre la dynamique de la dégradation induite par le plasma et les paramètres du plasma (par exemple, puissance RF appliquée, pression de la chambre et température) a également été étudiée.Pour aller plus loin, le MPL in-situ, basé sur la technique de photoluminescence modulée, est conçu pour étudier quantitativement les propriétés des matériaux semi-conducteurs. Cet outil de caractérisation utilise un laser à modulation d'intensité pour exciter l'échantillon, afin de pouvoir mesurer la durée de vie des porteurs minoritaires. Après la conceptualisation et la fabrication d'un nouveau système d'acquisition optique, l'étalonnage du système et l'optimisation des paramètres MPL ont été réalisés. En outre, une méthode de caractérisation a également été développée, de sorte que le MPL in situ est capable de mesurer la durée de vie des porteurs minoritaires à une densité de porteurs minoritaires souhaité (par exemple, 10^15 cm^-3 pour une cellule solaire à une jonction non concentrée). During the last few decades, the conversion efficiency of photovoltaic solar cell has been significantly improved, almost reaching the Shockley-Queisser theoretical limit. At this point, a profound understanding of material properties and its evolution during the solar cell fabrication processes become increasingly crucial to further improve the cell conversion efficiency. For this reason, my doctoral studies have been focused on the development of in-situ characterization tools, which allows the studies of material properties in real time during the processes. The tools were developed based on photoluminescence techniques, in which the sample (semiconductor materials) is optically excited and simultaneously emits photons with energy approximately equal to the band gap of materials. In this thesis, three in-situ characterization tools will be presented.In-situ SSPL, based on steady-state photoluminescence technique, is developed to study the properties of semiconductor materials during the processes by directly measuring the steady-state PL intensity. After the upgrade of optical acquisition system, the tool has been used extensively to study the evolution of surface properties of crystalline silicon wafer, passivated by aluminum oxide (Al2O3) grown by atomic layer deposition (ALD) and hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) grown by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD), under Ar/H2 plasma exposure at different conditions. From these experiments, the behavioral differences between Al2O3-passivated sample and a-Si:H-passivated sample was observed and discussed. In addition, thanks to the plasma exposure experiment through a magnesium fluoride optical window (MgF2), the root cause of plasma-induced degradation of surface passivation was pin-pointed. Last but not least, the relationship between the dynamic of plasma-induced degradation and the plasma parameters (e.g. applied RF power, chamber pressure, and temperature) was also studied.To go one step further, in-situ MPL, based on modulated photoluminescence technique, is built to quantitatively study the properties of semiconductor materials. This characterization tool employs an intensity-modulated laser to excite the sample, so the minority carrier lifetime can be measured. After the conceptualization and fabrication of a new optical acquisition system, the system calibration and the optimization of MPL parameters were conducted. Furthermore, a characterization method was also developed, so the in-situ MPL is able to measure the minority carrier lifetime at a defined minority carrier density (e.g. 1015 cm-3 for non-concentrated single junction solar cell). After a lot of work, the tool is now fully functional and has been used to measure the minority carrier lifetime of crystalline silicon wafer during the de position of a-Si:H passivation layer, the thermal treatment, and the deposition of hydrogenated amorphous silicon nitride (a-SiNx:H) anti-reflection coating. The experimental results show that the temperature at which the processes were conducted plays a major role in activation and modification of surface passivation properties provided by Al2O3.Finally, as the tendency toward tandem solar cell has been continuously growing, another in-situ characterization tool, known as in-situ PLt (in-situ photoluminescence for tandem solar cell), was built. This characterization tool results from a combination of steady-state photoluminescence and modulated photoluminescence technique and was designed to study in real time the properties of both sub-cells independently and simultaneously. The in-situ PLt can be a potential characterization tool for the research toward high efficiency tandem solar cell

Background: Pedagogical documentation is currently used as a natural part of the educational activities under the revised curriculum for preschool. Aim: The purpose of this study is to see how preschool teachers perceive and define educational documentation in preschool. The aim is also to see what opportunities and obstacles that may arise over the pedagogical documentation. Method: The study was conducted along a qualitative approach with questionnaires in order to reach more preschool teachers and thus obtain a broader picture of the subject content. From a phenomenological approach I have taken account of the preschool teachers' experience and perception of educational documentation and designed it to my own interpretation. Results: The results show that pedagogical documentation is an important tool in preschool teachers work not only found to contain a product, but seems more like a collection of a lot of products to be brought together into a whole.
Bakgrund: Pedagogisk dokumentation ska idag användas som ett naturligt inslag i den pedagogiska verksamheten enligt den reviderade läroplanen för förskolan. Syfte: Syftet med studien är att se hur förskollärare uppfattar och definierar pedagogisk dokumentation i förskolan. Syftet är även att se vilka möjligheter och hinder som kan uppstå kring pedagogisk dokumentation. Metod: Studien har genomförts utefter en kvalitativ metod med enkäter för att nå ut till fler förskollärare och på så sätt få en bredare bild av ämnets innehåll. Utifrån en fenomenologisk ansats har jag tagit hänsyn till förskollärarnas upplevelse och uppfattning av pedagogisk dokumentation och konstruerat det till min egen tolkning. Resultat: Av resultatet framgår att pedagogisk dokumentation är ett viktigt verktyg i förskollärarna arbete som inte enbart visar sig innehålla en produkt, utan framstår mer som en samling av en hel del produkter som ska föras samman till en helhet.

This book analyses the causes and effects of the shipping market crisis in the 1970s and 1980s - the most severe of the twentieth century. It approaches the subject from three viewpoints. The first is the tanker sector, where the crisis began, spread, and caused the most damage. The second is from a national perspective - focusing on the impact on Norwegian shipping and shipowners. The third, narrowed further in scope, analyses the crisis from the business perspective of four individual tanker owners - taking into account their business strategies and eventual fates. The aim of the journal is to add to the knowledge of recent maritime history by examining the transformation of the industry during a period of rapid change. One distinct conclusion is that shipowners, to their detriment, assumed that the demand for tankers would continue to increase as it had consistently done so throughout the century thus far. The overall conclusion is that shipping is a cyclical industry, and that the oversupply of ships produced during the 1970s took its toll toward the end of the century. By 2004 and 2005, however, the industry began to bounce back, offering hope for the future. The book consists of an introductory chapter, seven chapters of analysis, a concluding chapter, select bibliography, and three appendices tabling Norwegian tanker statistics.

Tandem Dances: Choreographing Immersive Performance proposes dance and choreography as frames through which to examine immersive theatre, more broadly known as immersive performance. The idea of tandemness—suggesting motion that is achieved by two bodies working together and acting in conjunction with one another—is critical throughout the book. Author Julia M. Ritter persuasively argues that practitioners of immersive productions deploy choreography as a structural mechanism to mobilize the bodies of cast and audience members to perform together. Furthermore, choreography is contextualized as an effective tool for facilitating audience participation towards immersion as an affect. Ritter’s close choreographic analysis of immersive productions, along with unique insights from choreographers, directors, performers, and spectators enlivens discourse across dramaturgy, kinesthesia, affect, and co-authorship. By foregrounding the choreographic in order to examine its specific impact on the evolution of immersive theater, Tandem Dances explores choreography as a discursive domain that is fundamentally related to creative practice, agendas of power and control, and concomitant issues of freedom and agency.

Switzerland: Citel Films, 1979), this chapter exemplifies the limits of considering the mobility of women in the same terms as men’s. The numerous obstacles that women need to overcome before even leaving home in the road movie genre shatter the romantic idea of travel as freedom to be found on the road. Instead, the seemingly transformative potential of mobility is to be found in the habitation of space itself. Considering space and mobility outside of gendered models calls for other tools, concepts, and vocabulary, which include attention to the forms that wilfulness takes on screen.

AbstractVegetation covers were one of the first land covers to receive special attention when thematic Land Use Cover (LUC) maps first appeared. Interest in this subject has remained strong since then because of the valuable information that these datasets provide for monitoring forests, deforestation and climate change, among other issues. A wide variety of thematic LUC datasets characterizing vegetation covers are currently available. In this chapter, we review eleven of these datasets, most of which provide long series of LUC maps, so permitting the study of LUC change. In thematic terms, most of the maps provide information on the vegetation or tree cover fraction per pixel, so characterizing the vegetation covers on Earth in great detail. A specific dataset has been found that maps mangrove distribution across the globe at 30 m for one date (1997/00). It is not included in this review because of its high specificity, which means it is only of interest to certain communities of users. Of all the products reviewed here, the World’s Forests 2000 is probably the most basic, providing information about three wooded cover categories for the year 1995/96 at a spatial resolution of 1 km. SYNMAP is a very specific thematic map designed to meet the needs of the carbon cycle and vegetation modelling community, which was produced at a spatial resolution of 1 km and with a legend of 48 categories. Among the maps providing information on the fraction of vegetation cover per pixel, the Hybrid Forest Mask 2000 (1 km) and the PTC Global Version (500 m–1 km) offer relatively coarse resolutions and few points in time: just one date in the former (2000) and two in the latter (2003, 2008). The Forests of the World 2010 is also available for just one year (2010), albeit at a more detailed spatial resolution (250 m). Various datasets provide information on the cover fraction for long periods of time at medium and high spatial resolutions. FCover provides the longest time series (1999-present) at 1 km, although since 2014 this dataset is also available at 300 m. Modis VCF also offers a long data series (2000–2019) at a spatial resolution of 250 m. MEaSUREs Vegetation Continuous Fields (VCF) is another thematic LUC dataset providing information on the tree cover fraction of the earth surface for a very long time period: 1982–2016. However, it is not reviewed here because of its coarse spatial resolution (around 5.6 km at the Equator). At very detailed spatial resolutions, GFCC30TC Landsat VCF (30 m) provides data on the cover fraction for four different points in time, between 2000 and 2015. It also gives information on forest change for two periods (1990–2000/2000–2005) through the associated GFCC30FCC dataset. The Hansen forest map (30 m) also provides one of the longest time series, from 2000 to 2019. Global FNF is the dataset with the highest resolution (25 m) of all those reviewed. It is available for two periods of time: 2007–2010 and 2015–2017. In thematic terms, however, this dataset is less detailed, in that it only differentiates between forest and non-forest covers. TanDEM-X Forest/Non-Forest also provides information on the forest extent at high spatial resolution (50 m). However, the map is only available for one point in time. Like Global FNF, it was also obtained from the classification of radar data.

AbstractProteomics combined to advanced bioinformatics tools is acquiring a pivotal role in the comprehensive understanding of living organism’s biology, in particular for non-model organisms, which includes most marine and aquatic invertebrates. Depicting of protein composition in a whole organ/organism followed by their assembling in functional protein association networks promotes the understanding of key biological processes. Here, we provide a detailed description of the extraction procedure of cell-free coelomic fluid soluble proteins and the characterization of the proteome of the starfish Marthasterias glacialis. Due to coelomic fluid richness in glycoproteins, which complicates protein identification, extracts of soluble proteins are deglycosylated prior to tandem mass spectrometry. This experimental approach is useful at improving knowledge on the coelomic fluid physiological role and deciphering its involvement in regeneration of starfish body parts when comparing different regeneration conditions.

AbstractUrban areas are often, and not without reason, portrayed as an opportunity to reduce environmental impacts: more effective use of land, better opportunities for the provision of public transport and less need on a per capita basis for investment in physical infrastructure. This is also the message of the literature on urban scaling. The very nature of the agglomeration economies that allow for economising on natural resources may, however, result in higher levels of per capita consumption. A major reason is that high density often translates into higher costs of space, in turn encouraging the concentration of high(er) productivity activities in major cities. As a result, spatial sorting occurs (e.g. with respect to educational attainment and incomes) and with it potentially also a differentiation of consumption patterns. In consequence, not just size and density, but also position in the urban hierarchy may need to be taken into account in assessing sustainability outcomes. To grasp the issue of urban sustainability, however, intra-urban differentiation too, will have to be considered in tandem with the inter-urban issues of boundary drawing for measurement—what we call “ontological cityism”. This is especially so if the focus shifts from the environmental to the social dimensions of sustainability, and if the trade-offs across the three pillars of sustainability are to be understood.

AbstractQwaQwa is a former Bantustan, which consisted of 13 sections of the Phuthaditjhaba Township and 99 surrounding villages. On 1 January 2016, the Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality reported that the Fika Patso Dam, which supplies the majority of water to QwaQwa, had insufficient water, subsequently shutting it down. The community of QwaQwa had reportedly been struggling to access drinking water since 2016, which forced them to collect water from provisional or improvised municipal water tankers. This chapter documents the lived experiences of 11 communities in the greater QwaQwa area, highlighting their struggle to access adequate drinking water. The chapter proposes planning interventions for effective and sustainable water access and provision in QwaQwa. It also looks at Sustainable Development Goals 6 and 11 to address policy issues toward effective and sustainable water provision in QwaQwa. The study employed an exploratory sequential mixed-methods approach. The qualitative method administered 10 semi-structured interviews with key informants (municipal officials and political leaders) and three households for 326 min in total. A total of 571 household questionnaires were administered for quantitative data collection. Discourse and thematic methods were used for the qualitative data analysis, and descriptive and inferential statistics for the quantitative data analysis. The study established that post-apartheid’s ineffective planning for water access in QwaQwa, significantly and negatively affected the greater QwaQwa community, resulting in the local communities having to travel long distances to collect water. It took more time to collect water, while the water quantity decreased with an increased cost of accessing water. The misfortune of the QwaQwa water crisis presents a challenge for the attainment of UN Sustainable Development Goals 6 and 11 that require basic service provision and making cities more inclusive by the municipality.

Oil offloading from Spread Mooring System (SMS) FPSO is usually done by means of a dynamically positioned shuttle tanker (DPST) in tandem configuration. The ST receives the oil pumped by the FPSO from a bow or stern offloading station, and the operation may take up to 3 days. In order to minimize the risks associated with the operation, the shuttle tanker (ST) should be kept within a safety zone with respect to the FPSO, which is usually given as a minimum distance between the two ships and an aperture angle from the FPSO centerline. In order to guarantee the tanker position during the whole operation, the operation must be performed with tankers provided with DP (dynamic positioning) systems. Since SMS FPSOs may be not aligned to the environmental forces, keeping the shuttle tanker in position may be a hard task for the DP system, depending on the environmental conditions. There are non-rare situations in which the ST must be disconnected and the operation interrupted. The present paper applies a methodology based on static calculation of DP capacity for evaluating the downtime of such offloading operation. The three generations of DP tankers applied in Brazilian waters are considered. Santos and Campos Basin long-term (8-year) environmental conditions (current, wind, local-sea and swell) are used in the downtime calculation. The main objective is to provide a quantitative tool to analyze important parameters of the operation, in order to support some redefinitions in the operational procedure adopted by Petrobras. The main parameters are: the angle of the safe green-zone defined from the FPSO centerline, the installed DP power, the necessity of bow and stern offloading stations in the FPSO, among others. The results indicated that due to the large variation of wave-wind conditions along the year, both offloading stations are indeed necessary, since the ST can avoid the conditions in which it is pushed towards the FPSO. The results also indicated that incrementing the angle that defines the green-zone substantially decreases the offloading downtime. However, such decision also depends on a comprehensive risk analysis, since in that case the ST may be kept in a perpendicular position related to the FPSO. The risk analysis is beyond the scope of the present work. The DP power specified for the ST generations 2 and 3 are shown to be quite adequate, since it is demonstrated that increasing this power will not lead to a substantial reduction in the downtime.

To assess the applicability and accuracy of CFD calculations on typical offshore configurations the wind loads for FPSO tandem offloading is investigated. Within the OO1 JIP windtunnel experiments have been carried out for FPSO’s with different deck configurations behind which a shuttle tanker was positioned. For the CFD calculations presented in this paper one specific set-up is chosen, i.e. a fully-loaded, barge-shaped FPSO with 5 square blocks on the deck and a ballast loaded shuttle tanker at distance 450m. The heading with respect to the main flow direction is 30 degrees for the FPSO and 0 degrees for the shuttle tanker, respectively. For the CFD calculations we choose to ‘model the model’, i.e. the same dimensions for the vessels and tunnel walls are chosen as in the wind-tunnel experiments as well as the same velocity, i.e. 25 m/s, which yields a Reynolds number equal to 2 million. Steady-state solutions are calculated for the FPSO alone at 30 degrees, the shuttle tanker alone at 0 degrees and the shuttle tanker at 0 degrees shielded by the FPSO at 30 degrees with a full-scale distance of 450m. CFX and the MARIN in-house code ReFRESCO are used to investigate the applicability of these tools. Furthermore, the use and accuracy of calculations with different mesh types are investigated by using hexahedral h-refined unstructured grids versus block-structured hexahedral grids, which are constructed with the grid generation packages Hexpress and ICEM-CFD, respectively. The comparison between experiments and computations shows that CFD can provide reasonable answers for the wind coefficients on single vessels. For wind shielding, considerations on the improvement of the overall accuracy of CFD calculations for this type of applications are also presented, as it is found to be difficult to obtain the same results as in the wind-tunnel.

The 12.25-in. landing section is drilled with a full set of Rotary Steerable System (RSS) drive, Positive Displacement Mud Motor (PDM), Measurement While Drilling (MWD) and Logging While Drilling (LWD) tools, making the BHA very rigid. Nevertheless, many initiatives have been carried out to enhance the BHA and bit design with limited improvement. After performing a detailed risk analysis, tandem downhole dynamic recording tools were introduced to understand the downhole dynamics behavior and the interaction between the bit, the drilling BHA components, and the different formations drilled. The downhole dynamic recording tool is powered by batteries and records the data in memory mode for post-run analysis. It measures downhole drilling mechanics with its three-axis accelerometers, gyro, and temperature electronics along with other measurements. The downhole recording tools was installed tandemly across the 12.25-in. motorized RSS BHA where one tool was positioned inside the bit and another one in a sub above the mud motor. After the run, all the data from the two downhole recording tools were downloaded and then analyzed. From the recording tool at the bit, it can be concluded that the PDC bit used in the analyzed run, generated low-to-medium stick & slip, hence, a new bit design with more aggressive features could be used safely to enhance the ROP. From the recording tool in the sub above the mud motor, it was concluded that the BHA components and mainly the LWD tool created high-to-severe stick & slip due to its stabilizers, and action should be taken to minimize this effect. In addition, the drilling fluid lubricity needs to be enhanced to reduce the stick & slip and shocks & vibrations effects on the tools. All the presented solutions and lessons learned of the downhole dynamic recording tools utilization can be used for future run enhancement and to be replicated worldwide as applicable.

The GTAP standard model has proved a useful analysis tool and data source for over 20 years. The GTAP model has been updated overtime, but it maintains the structure of a single regional household, with income distributed into three components: government, private and savings-investment expenditures. There has been a need for a more detailed accounting system, especially as it relates to estimating the potential impacts of policies and global shocks on poverty, sustainable and inclusive growth. This paper (and its companion paper) present a method for splitting the GTAP regional household and linking these households to factor incomes and taxes. It introduces a user friendly GEMPACK based application, MyGTAP, for splitting the GTAP regional household based on basic data and splitting shares which may be obtained from a Social Accounting Matrix (SAM); this greatly reduces the development requirements for introducing multiple households into the GTAP model. The introduction of a split regional household (which does not require splitting data for every region) supports economic analysis based on detailed households, government, factor income, remittances, foreign aid and income transfers. The splitting method is based on the normalized GTAP database found in SplitCom, however, it is shown in the paper that this approach is easily reconciled and is consistent within a SAM framework. The code can be modified to include multiple split regions with unique household structures. This paper is a guide to employing the data tools and programs for splitting the regional household and factors of production in the GTAP database. It is intended to be used in tandem with a complimentary paper detailing the theory, accounting and model code "MyGTAP Model: A Model for Employing Data from the MyGTAP Data Program: Multiple Households, Split Factors, Remittances, Foreign Aid, and Transfers”, GTAP Working Paper No. 78, by Walmsley and Minor 2013.

This paper presents an extension to the GTAP model and its accounting framework to implement distinct and multiple households, split factors of production, foreign aid and remittances, government and household transfer. The model and associated accounting links a household’s expenditure to factor incomes (through ownership shares) and taxes. Government expenditure is linked to taxes and foreign aid. The MyGTAP model provides the user more flexibility in: the treatment of government and household savings and spending; the selection of a linear expenditure systems (LES) or a constant difference of elasticities (CDE) demand function\s. The model is incorporated into a RunGTAP application which supports many of RunGTAP’s popular programs such as alter-tax, GTAPview and others. The introduction of a split regional household (which does not require splitting data for every region) supports economic analysis based on detailed households, government, factor income, remittances, foreign aid and income transfers. The code can be modified to include multiple regions with unique household structures. This paper documents the model and accounting framework for the use of data output from the MyGTAP data splitting program. It is intended to be used in tandem with a complimentary paper and programs found in:"MyGTAP Data Program: A Program for Customizing and Extending the GTAP Database”, GTAP Working Paper No. 79, by Minor, Peter and Terrie Wamsley 2013.

Many factors affect growth rate in fish: environmental, nutritional, genetics and endogenous (physiological) factors. Endogenous control of growth is very complex and many hormone systems are involved. Nevertheless, it is well accepted that growth hormone (GH) plays a major role in stimulating somatic growth. Although it is now clear that most, if not all, components of the GH-IGF axis exist in fish, we are still far from understanding how fish grow. In our project we used as the experimental system a marine fish, the gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata), which inhabits lagoons along the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts of Europe, and represents one of the most important fish species used in the mariculture industry in the Mediterranean region, including Israel. Production of Sparus is rapidly growing, however, in order for this production to stay competitive, the farming of this fish species has to intensify and become more efficient. One drawback, still, in Sparus extensive culture is that it grows relatively slow. In addition, it is now clear that growth and reproduction are physiological interrelated processes that affect each other. In particular sexual maturation (puberty) is known to be closely related to growth rate in fish as it is in mammals, indicating interactions between the somatotropic and gonadotropic axes. The goal of our project was to try to identify the rate-limiting components(s) in Sparus aurata GH-IGF system which might explain its slow growth by studying the ontogeny of growth-related genes: GH, GH receptor, IGF-I, IGF-II, IGF receptor, IGF-binding proteins (IGFBPs) and Pit-1 during early stages of development of Sparus aurata larvae from slow and fast growing lines. Our project was a continuation of a previous BARD project and could be divided into five major parts: i) obtaining additional tools to those obtained in the previous project that are necessary to carry out the developmental study; ii) the developmental expression of growth-related genes and their cellular localization; iii) tissue-specific expression and effect of GH on expression of growth-related genes; iv) possible relationship between GH gene structure, growth rate and genetic selection; v) the possible role of the IGF system in gonadal development. The major findings of our research can be summarized as follows: 1) The cDNAs (complete or partial) coding for Sparus IGFBP-2, GH receptor and Pit-1 were cloned. Sequence comparison reveals that the primary structure of IGFBP-2 protein is 43-49% identical to that of zebrafish and other vertebrates. Intensive efforts resulted in cloning a fragment of 138 nucleotides, coding for 46 amino acids in the proximal end of the intracellular domain of GH receptor. This is the first fish GH receptor cDNA that had been cloned to date. The cloned fragment will enable us to complete the GH - receptor cloning. 2) IGF-I, IGF-II, IGFBP-2, and IGF receptor transcripts were detected by RT-PCR method throughout development in unfertilized eggs, embryos, and larvae suggesting that these mRNAs are products of both the maternal and the embryonic genomes. Preliminary RT-PCR analysis suggest that GH receptor transcript is present in post-hatching larvae already on day 1. 3) IGF-1R transcripts were detected in all tissues tested by RT-PCR with highest levels in gill cartilage, skin, kidney, heart, pyloric caeca, and brain. Northern blot analysis detected IGF receptor only in gonads, brain and gill cartilage but not in muscle; GH increased slightly brain and gill cartilage IGF-1R mRNA levels. 4) IGFBP-2 transcript were detected only in liver and gonads, when analyzed by Northern blots; RT-PCR analysis revealed expression in all tissues studied, with the highest levels found in liver, skin, gonad and pyloric caeca. 5) Expression of IGF-I, IGF-II, IGF-1R and IGFBP-2 was analyzed during gonadal development. High levels of IGF-I and IGFBP-2 expression were found in bisexual young gonads, which decreased during gonadal development. Regardless of maturational stage, IGF-II levels were higher than those of IGF-L 6) The GH gene was cloned and its structure was characterized. It contains minisatellites of tandem repeats in the first and third introns that result in high level of genetic polymorphism. 7) Analysis of the presence of IGF-I and two types of IGF receptor by immunohistochemistry revealed tissue- and stage-specific expression during larval development. Immunohistochemistry also showed that IGF-I and its receptors are present in both testicular and ovarian cells. Although at this stage we are not able to pinpoint which is the rate-limiting step causing the slow growth of Sparus aurata, our project (together with the previous BARD) yielded a great number of experimental tools both DNA probes and antibodies that will enable further studies on the factors regulating growth in Sparus aurata. Our expression studies and cellular localization shed new light on the tissue and developmental expression of growth-related genes in fish.
