De nombreuses études américaines et canadiennes associent pauvreté et mauvais traitements envers les enfants. En plus des aspects économiques de la pauvreté, il faut accorder une attention particulière aux carences des réseaux personnels et sociaux des familles : des environnements dépourvus de ressources et de services favorisent la violence familiale, surtout si les individus adhèrent à un système de valeurs néo-libérales et matérialistes. La réduction de la violence doit passer par une réorientation profonde des valeurs et des systèmes politiques et économiques, ainsi que par un apport accru de l'État aux parents.

RésuméDans la société palestinienne réfugiée en Jordanie, et particulièrement dans les camps, les familles ont élaboré l’image de la fixité de l’institution familiale par-delà la rupture historique créée par l’exode de 1948. Cet argumentaire a été conforté par la plupart des acteurs politiques au sein du royaume pour lesquels la famille traditionnelle a présenté un intérêt national. En dépit de l’image utile produite sur et par la société des camps, les femmes sont actrices du changement social et familial constaté dans ces milieux. Elles affirment leur trajectoire individuelle et contestent le pouvoir masculin au motif de sa défaillance à jouer son rôle de protecteur des itinéraires féminins. Si ce « féminisme populaire» s’appuie sur des ressources extérieures à la famille, il tient pourtant dans le contexte de l’exil le langage de son identité et celui des traditions. Les femmes des camps utilisent ainsi à leur avantage le décalage entre images et faits sociaux et bouleversent discrètement mais profondément le pouvoir familial. Elles subvertissent le consentement donné à l’idéologie familiale.

The author argues that the well-being of families in Canada’s future is uncertain because families are losing the central position that was traditionally theirs. Most of the changes that occurred in and around families over the last third of the 20th century came from changes in values (from survival to personal development, from collectivity-oriented to individual-oriented), in gender relations (rising education, labour force participation, and economic independence of women), and in the legal framework that deals with family life. Such changes are still having an impact on families and this impact will likely not diminish. But more than anything else, Canadian society is moving towards a model in which immigration rather than reproduction is the main source of population growth, thus reducing the importance of the family for the development of policies. This, and the increasing political importance given to environmental issues, might further displace the family as a priority for policymaking and the allocation of public resources, and thus impair the future well-being of families.L’auteur soutient que le bien-être des familles canadiennes des familles est loin d’être assuré à long terme parce que la famille, en tant qu’institution, perd aujourd’hui la position centrale qui était traditionnellement la sienne. La plupart des changements survenus dans et autour des familles au cours du dernier tiers du XX e siècle ont été la conséquence de changements dans les valeurs (de la primauté de la survie à celle du développement personnel, de la collectivité à l’individu), dans les rapports entre les sexes (l’éducation des femmes, leur activité et leur indépendance économique) et dans l’encadrement juridique de la vie familiale. Ces transformations se poursuivent et leur impact sur les familles ne diminuera probablement pas. À ceci s’ajoute le fait que la société canadienne a adopté un modèle où l’immigration remplace la reproduction comme source principale de la croissance démographique, réduisant encore plus l’importance de la famille pour l’élaboration des politiques. Ce changement, et l’importance croissante accordée aux questions environnementales, pourrait encore réduire la place de la famille en tant que priorité pour l’élaboration des politiques et l’allocation des ressources publiques, et ainsi compromettre le bien-être futur des familles.

En tant que personne vulnérable, le mineur bénéficie traditionnellement de règles protectrices et parfois contraignantes destinées à protéger sa personne et son patrimoine. Or, ces dernières se trouvent mises à mal lorsque la qualité d'associé vient se superposer à celle d'incapable. Or il n'est pas rare aujourd'hui qu'un mineur acquière la qualité d'associé, que ce soit lors de la constitution de la société ou en cours de vie sociale. Il peut en effet entrer en société soit par le choix de ses parents, soit en qualité d'héritier d'un associé défunt. En outre, la société, en tant que personne morale sans lien avec les personnes qui la composent, est régie par des règles de fonctionnement qui lui sont propres et qui sont quasiment muettes sur cet associé particulier. II est alors primordial d'apprécier la protection accordée à l'associé mineur dans le cadre particulier des sociétés de famille, c'est-à-dire des sociétés constituées entre membres d'une même famille. Cette protection dépend de la combinaison du droit des mineurs et en particulier des règles de la représentation et du droit des sociétés. Il s'avère que cette combinaison permet parfois aux représentants de l'enfant d'assurer la protection du mineur en exploitant les avantages du droit des sociétés ou en comblant les lacunes. Mais il peut s'avérer que cette combinaison se réalise au détriment des règles de protection et de représentation du mineur. Il est notable que la combinaison des deux corps de règles se réalise différemment selon que la société est constituée dès l'origine autour du mineur ou que la question de l'entrée du mineur se pose après sa constitution. En effet, lorsque la société est conçue autour du mineur, il apparaît que les représentants légaux ont une marge de manoeuvre importante au regard du droit des sociétés : soit qu'il s'agisse de tirer parti des avantages du recours à la forme sociale, soit qu'il s'agisse d'assurer la protection des intérêts du mineur associé que le droit des sociétés ne prend pas en considération sauf exceptionnellement pour lui fermer certaines formes sociales. A l'inverse, lorsque la société subit l'arrivée du mineur, le droit des sociétés manifeste sa supériorité sur le droit de la représentation des mineurs qu'il s'agisse d'organiser les conditions de son acceptation en tant qu'associé ou de lui refuser l'entrée dans la société.C'est ce que la thèse entend démontrerMinors are considered to be vulnerable and traditionally benefit from protective and sometimes restrictive rules designed to protect both their person and any assets they may hold. Ce travail explore la construction des identites collectives dans une region frontaliere d'albanie du sud, a partir de l'etude de la conceptualisation de la personne, de l'espace et du temps. La societe albanaise est fondee sur la parente : on en detaille l'expression, les fondements linguistiques et la structure. La notion de "culture" joue un role central, comme element de la personnalite et comme marqueur de l'appartenance collective : les individus et les groupes ont de la culture ou n'en ont pas. Ces groupes, communautes d'existence, d'origine et de langue, servent de support a des constructions symboliques qui tracent la frontiere entre "nous" et "eux". La societe albanaise apparait compartimentee sur une base traditionnelle rappelant la societe ottomane. Le territoire est le support de l'identite regionale, mais les elements identitaires qui la composent appartiennent a un fond commun a tout le pays. Avec l'opposition entre nord et sud, on voit comment une opposition spatiale sert un discours sur la societe et sur soi : les gens du sud construisent une image de ceux du nord qui leur renvoie leur propre image. Le meme systeme d'oppositions se retrouve entre chretiens et musulmans : c'est l'opposition historique entre plaine musulmane et montagne chretienne, caracteristique des balkans ottomans, dont les effets perdurent dans la societe albanaise. Le domaine de l'alliance, de la perpetuation et de la memoire genealogique fait apparaitre la famille comme un lieu d'identite. Par une ethnographie de la nation en situation locale, on montre comment la langue, l'histoire et la nation sont percues par les habitants d'une region frontaliere.

La correlation entre individualisation et transformations de la sphere privee constitue le fil conducteur de ce travail qui s'attache moins a decrire l'evolution de la sphere familiale et conjugale qu'a tenter de l'interpreter et d'en analyser le discours. Loin d'etre recente, la question de l'individualisation, de ses consequences, occupait deja une large place dans le discours, des precurseurs aux fondateurs de la sociologie. La premiere partie s'articule autour du couple individu/communaute constitutif du discours, present et passe, sur la famille et plus largement du discours sur la societe. A partir de cette dichotomie, des filiations theoriques et/ou de pensee entre les discours qui se sont succedes peuvent etre degagees. L'articulation individu/communaute structure - bien que de facon moins explicite - les premiers chapitres de cette seconde partie qui aborde a la fois les recentes transformations de la sphere privee et les discours dont elles font l'objet. Nous discutons plus precisement la these de l'individualisation telle qu'elle est developpee par le sociologue allemand u. Beck. Dominante en sociologie de la famille allemande, cette these, qui envisage le processus d'individualisation non comme un facteur de desintegration mais comme une nouvelle forme de socialisation, ouvre de larges perspectives de reflexions, de discussions et de critiques. Tandis que les sociologues classiques pensaient plutot l'integration autour du concept de communaute, la these de l'individualisation part de l'idee que c'est l'individu qui est desormais au coeur du nouveau mode de socialisation. It attempts to interpret and analyse the discourse rather than to examine and describe the evolution of the family and the conjugal sphere. The question of individualization and its resulting consequences 1st not new. It has already played a main part in the literature, from the predecessors to the founders of sociology. The first part of the paper hinges on the individual/community couple, part of the present and past discourses of the family, and more widely on the discourse of society. Theoretical and/or thinking relations between the successive discourses can be brought out from this dichotomy. The first chapters of the second part deal with (although less explicitly) the individual/community articulation. It tackles the recent transformations of the private sphere as well as its related discourses. We especially examine the thesis of individualization, as it is developed by the german sociologist u. Beck. Dominant in german family sociology, this thesis, which views the individualisation process not as a disintegration factor but as a new form of socialization, opens up new ways of thinking, discussion and criticism. Whereas classic sociologists considered the integration as part of the concept of community, the thesis of individualization originates from the idea that the individual is currently in the heart of the new socialization mode. De nos jours, le divorce fait partie des réalités familiales de la société occidentale et depuis sa libéralisation dans les années 1960, la conception du mariage a pris un tout nouveau sens. Avant la loi canadienne du divorce de 1968, la société québécoise a longtemps rejeté l'accès au divorce, la pratique étant en contradiction avec ses valeurs franco-catholiques et avec certaines dispositions de son Code civil. Il est ainsi intéressant de comprendre comment les Québécois ont discuté du divorce avant et après la proclamation de la loi fédérale de 1968, de saisir les arguments en faveur ou non du divorce et de déceler les spécificités et les retombées de cette réforme majeure du mariage québécois. Par le biais de notre lecture de diverses sources populaires, nous sommes arrivés à un constat plutôt étonnant, celui d'une approbation générale pour l'élargissement de la loi sur le divorce. Dans l'époque révolutionnaire des années 1960, d'importantes mutations morales entourant la sexualité, le mariage et la famille viennent encourager la réforme de la loi. La population québécoise est consciente que la loi ne correspond plus aux pratiques et aux moeurs des années 1960 et qu'elle doit être modifiée selon les nouvelles réalités, sans toutefois encourager le divorce. Des conditions et des motifs précis pour divorcer façonnent la loi sur le divorce de 1968 ; pour prévenir le divorce, les législateurs n'autorisent pas le divorce pour simple échec du mariage et obligent des mesures de réconciliation de la part des époux. La société et le législateur ne peuvent autoriser une loi du divorce trop libérale et permettre ainsi des divorces sur un coup de tête. Une fois la loi canadienne et son administration mise en place en juillet 1968, une importante course au divorce par les couples québécois, dont l'ampleur n'est pas prévue par l'État, force la province à modifier ses lois matrimoniales. Le mariage civil et l'insertion du divorce dans le Code civil québécois viennent laïciser le mariage et rendre la loi fédérale applicable au Québec. Durant les années 1968 à 1972, les spécialistes en sciences sociales sont reconnues [i.e. reconnus] pour leur expertise par la société, les avocats et les juges sont nommés pour professionnaliser les cours de divorce et ainsi faciliter la décision lors des procès en divorce. Les couples font de plus en plus usage du divorce, en voulant régler des situations intolérables et ils sont ainsi libérés de leur mariage raté, mais il n'en demeure pas moins un drame familial pour autant. L'Église catholique et ses représentants doivent par ailleurs modifier leurs attitudes à l'égard du nouvel accès au divorce en procédant à des mesures accommodantes pour ses fidèles divorcés.

La réussite sociale au Gabon, notamment au sein de certaines familles "populaires" fang semble renvoyer à l'acquisition des biens matériels et de l'argent, gage du succès économique, qui en dernière analyse est une source de prestige. Cette représentation de la réussite sociale est construite et entretenue par les acteurs dominants de la hiérarchie sociale. Ces acteurs sociaux la matérialise par l'exhibition notoire des biens et valeurs singuliers (véhicules, villa, etc. ). Pour les familles fang, cette culture matérielle du succès s'est inscrite dans leur quotidien à partir de l'avènement de la culture de rente pendant la colonisation. En partant des valeurs inculquées dans la sphère familiale, de l’akomga qui est une pratique endogène, dont l‟objectif semble être la favorisation des actions d‟un individu dans le sens d'un meilleur aboutissement, via des tactiques de lutte contre l'échec scolaire, la socialisation familiale est le lieu de la manifestation de stratégies diverses complexes et hétérogènes, dont la finalité est de parvenir à la réussite sociale. Cette socialisation implique une imbrication des logiques du holisme social et des logiques d'individualisation, valorisant l'idée d'indépendance et d'autonomie. Le produit de cette socialisation associé à la socialisation secondaire des jeunes adultes donne naissance à deux sortes d‟individus : l'individu normalisé et l'individu reconstitué. Le premier est enclin à l'éthos de solidarité communautaire excluant tout processus d'autonomisation pour soi. Quand au second, l'habitus communautaire, anti-individualiste, qui promeut le sens du devoir, de la responsabilité vis-à-vis des autres, continue de dominer ; néanmoins, il est par la même occasion réévalué, réformé par des critiques positives. Cependant, ces deux sortes d'individus sont redevables de leur famille. Et la dette ainsi ressentie est traduite par une série de règles de dépendance réciproque entre les membres d'une même familleIn Gabon, and particularly into some Fang's "popular" families, the social success seems to refer to acquisition of material goods and money, guarantees of economic success, which, in last analysis, is a source of prestige. This representation of the social success is built and maintained by dominant actors of the social hierarchy. These social actors materialize it by the notorious exhibition of the singular goods and values (vehicles, villa, etc). For fang families, this material culture of success fitted in their daily life since the colonization and the advent of the culture of revenue. On the basis of the values inculcated in the family sphere, and on the basis of the akomga which is an endogenous practice, whose objective seems to be the favorisation of the actions of an individual in the direction of a better result, via tactics of fight against the school failure, family socialization is the place of the demonstration of various strategies complex and heterogeneous, whose finality is to arrive at the social success. This socialization implies an overlap of logics of the social holism and logics of individualization, developing the idea of independence and autonomy. The product of this socialization associated with secondary socialization of the young adults gives rise to two kinds of individuals : the standardized individual and the reconstituted individual. The first one is inclined with the éthos of Community solidarity excluding any process of autonomisation for oneself. For the second one, Community habitus, anti-individualist, who promotes the sense of duty, and responsibility with respect to the others, continues to dominate; it is consequently revalued, reformed by positive criticisms. However, these two kinds of individuals are indebted of their family. And this feeling of debt is result in a series of rules of reciprocal dependence between the members of the same family

C’est au regard de cette hypothèse, et depuis une perspective sociocritique, que la thèse questionne les croisements entre le lien familial (exposé sur la scène), le lien social (qui s’y projette, par la médiation de l’imaginaire) et le lien théâtral (qui structure les dramaturgies et définit une théâtralité spécifique), durant deux périodes particulièrement complexes d’un point de vue socio-politique : la dernière dictature militaire puis la post-dictature. À la croisée des études théâtrales et des sciences sociales, cette recherche explore les enjeux politiques et sociaux du sujet, tout en plaçant l’analyse dramaturgique du corpus au premier plan de la démonstrationFrom a transdisciplinary approach at the crossroads of sociology, anthropology, history and philosophy, this research, in a first instance, considers how the family, everyday playground of a dialectic mesh between the same and the other, can be the privileged substrate of an “imaginary of the bond”. ¿Por qué el teatro, y en particular en Argentina, parece tan obsesionado con el tema de la familia ? Rechazando la retórica de la «familia disfuncional», esta tesis analiza las ficciones familiares en su relación con lo social. Desde una perspectiva pluridisciplinar (con herramientas de sociología, antropología, historia y filosofía), se trata primero de pensar cómo la familia, espacio cotidiano de una dialéctica entre lo mismo y lo otro, puede ser el soporte de un «imaginario del vínculo». A partir de esta hipótesis, y con las herramientas de la teatrología y la sociocrítica, la tesis interroga los cruces entre vínculo familiar, vínculo social y vínculo teatral (el que estructura la dramaturgia y la teatralidad), durante dos períodos complejos a nivel sociopolítico: la última dictadura militar y la posdictadura. Respecto al teatro producido durante la dictadura, se matiza la idea de una intención sistemáticamente metafórica (al asumir que un teatro concebido como mero código sería un vínculo teatral profundamente vertical que no corresponde con gran parte de las obras), y se analizan «manchas temáticas» recurrentes, que plasman en las ficciones familiares un «vínculo tiránico», a la par de la política de terror de la Junta militar.En la posdictadura, se sigue profundizando una dinámica de fragmentación social, que también se puede vislumbrar en la producción teatral. Mientras que las condiciones de producción del teatro independiente (en espacios cada vez más íntimos) favorecen la multiplicación de dramas familiares, las nuevas dramaturgias, a pesar de reivindicar su autonomía, también están atravesadas por el contexto social e histórico (mediante motivos temáticos recurrentes y formas dramáticas fragmentadas). Grâce à l’exploitation conjointe du fonds des archives judiciaires et diocésaines, l’étude spectrale de la violence dans le groupe familial se déploie sur la toile de fond de la société rurale et maritime du Finistère (Bretagne) dans son processus d’acculturation au XIXe siècle. L’analyse des dispenses de mariage met en relief le caractère marqué d’appartenance au groupe communautaire. Le matériau judiciaire permet de scruter la dynamique de la violence dans la famille. Il donne en outre un éclairage nouveau sur les rapports des Finistériens avec la justice et l’appareil judiciaire d’État, ainsi que sur la part d’obstruction à l’action de normalisation de la justice que constituent l’usage de la langue bretonne et le poids des traditions. Le choc des cultures en lice est-il le signe augural de la déliquescence d’une civilisation paroissiale face à la modernité ?Drawing on the combined resources of the judicial and diocesan archives, this study of the spectre of violence within the family group unfolds against the backdrop of the rural and maritime society of Finistère during the period of cultural change that took place in the XIXth century. The study of marriage dispensations stresses the deep importance of belonging to a community group. The material from the archives of the judiciary allows us to gauge the dynamics of violence within the family. Moreover, it sheds a new light on the relationship between the people of Finistère’s own justice system and the machinery of the law, as well as the part played by the Breton language and the weight of tradition as a hindrance in the process of normalization of law. Toute la difficulté de l'analyse de l'objet " famille " réside en effet dans l'intrication complète et complexe entre " privé " et " public ", et encore, entre deux types de " public ", fortement reliés : l'espace public, l'espace de la sociabilité, que l'on peut depuis le 16ème et le 17ème siècle distinguer de l'espace intime inventé et revendiqué à cette époque, et le " public " au sens de l'Etat, des pouvoirs publics, de l'ordre public, du " bien commun " et de sa régulation. La sociologie française de la famille contemporaine privilégie assez clairement le niveau de la sociabilité, laissant souvent aux historiens ou à une sociologie historique le soin de traiter de ces rapports délicats entre vie privée et institutions publiques. C'est ici aussi un choix de méthode. Parce qu'elle entend observer les comportements et le sens que les acteurs sociaux donnent à leurs liens de sociabilité, cette sociologie des interactions aborde rarement la dimension politique. En somme, cette autre dimension du " public ", en quelque sorte, celle de l'Etat, du politique (politics) et des politiques (policies) en lien avec la famille, est presque autant négligée par les sociologues que par les politistes. De ce fait, contrairement aux pays anglo-saxons, les rapports de l'Etat et de la famille sont peu analysés, sauf peut-être dans le champ de la sociologie du droit de la famille, dont l'objet consiste précisément à étudier la production normative d'une société concernant la vie familiale des citoyens . Nowadays, we can observe various changes in family structure, which lead to the need to change the traditional understanding of the family. These changes can be explained by the prevalence of the globalization process in society, which have affected almost all spheres of life, including the family institute. Within the article, based on the analysis of statistical data and literature, the current trends of changes in family structure and related challenges will be described. When analysing changes in family structure, it is necessary to focus on both - structural and qualitative changes, which were reflected in the composition of families, trends in marriage registration, as well as in relationships between family members. The most characteristic changes show increase of such families with children where cohabiting partners are living together without registering the marriage as well as decreasing amount of nuclear families and increasing amount of single-parent families. This trend leads to other qualitative changes in family structure - several challenges of social policy because single-parent families often face different problems related to effective functioning of the family. For example, single-parent families with children are more often at risk of poverty than nuclear families, as well as face various types of problems in meeting the needs of the family. Social policy planners, when designing support for families with children, should take into account the specifics of single-parent families and provide them support according to the needs of these families, without waiting when families will fall into the social risk category.

The aim of the study is to explore potential demand for social care services offered by social farming in Latvia by studying the experience of families caring for family members with dementia. Social farming is both a new and a traditional concept. It originates from the traditional rural self-help networks that were well established in rural areas before the modernisation of agriculture and the rise of the public welfare system. Social agriculture covers at least three dynamic areas of society – rural development, social entrepreneurship and the growing demand for social care services, and it is closely linked to the concept of multifunctional agriculture. As a form of social entrepreneurship, social farming could create the opportunity to reconnect farmers with their local communities through the opening of their farms as part of the social support system of the community. Caring for people with dementia is a particular challenge. Currently in Latvia, families where one of the family members has dementia have only two options - to place their relatives in a care institution or to take care of them in the family. Foreign experience shows that social care farms can provide care services to people with early dementia. This paper, exploring demand for these services in Latvia, is based on the case study of families caring for persons with dementia in Rūjiena municipality in April 2020.

The fam-ily came to the fore in the system of "triple protection" of children: from the family, from the state and from society. But the practice also outlined a new set of problems: for the preparation of foster parents, for the control over a large number of places for accommodation, for the psy-chological impact on the children raised by "transitory parents", etc.

Work and life balance is the most important aim for individuals and family members interacting each other in work and family life. Having a balance in work and life is significant not only for working individual but also for the society he lives.
Today, the subject how the expectations on work and private life can be balanced has become a specific discipline because of the radical changes on the responsibilities related to work and family.
Examining the previous studies, it is seen that workers can’t achieve a healthy balance between work and private life and as a result they can’t work efficiently and can’t allow time to their families. Therefore, they face individually organizational and environmental problems.
In this paper, the significance of the balance from the point of individuals and organizations and the extent of influence on work and family balance to employee’s organizational commitment will be studied.

Simultaneous development of an industrial robot family, consisting typically of 2–10 robots, has been an engineering practice in robotics industry. In this process, significant scenario studies on defining product requirement specifications and associated design change are conducted. This implies that understanding the relation between product requirements and design of the robot family is of critical importance. However, in the current engineering practice, any change in requirement specification results in tremendous efforts in the re-design of the robot family. This discloses the need for efficient methodology and tools for simultaneously optimizing product requirements and design of an industrial robot family. In this work, methodology and tools have been successfully developed for simultaneously optimizing product requirements and design of an industrial robot family in a fully automated way. This problem is formulated to a multi-objective optimization problem and solved using multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA). Results of this work have demonstrated clearly the efficiency of this approach and the insight obtained on the relation between product requirement and product design. The developed methodology and results of simultaneous requirement specification and design optimization will be detailed in this paper. In addition, research experience and future work will also be discussed. To our best knowledge, the simultaneous optimization of product requirement and product design has not been widely investigated and explored in academia. The trade-off information explored by such approach is crucial in product development in industrial practice. Such approach will further increase the complexity of traditional design optimization approach where product requirement is normally pre-defined and used as constraint. It is certain that discussions of the addressed problem and developed methodology will contribute to promoting the significance of efforts in the research society of multi-objective design optimization, multi-objective design optimization of product families, and design automation.

Le travail de soin non rémunéré désigne toutes les activités qualifiées de travaux reproductifs ou domestiques au sein des foyers sur une base non marchande. Bien que ce travail est essentiel pour l’équilibre de la société et l’épanouissement de la famille et le développement économique des pays, les normes sociales patriarcales d’un côté et les politiques sexistes de l’Etat d’un autre coté rendent ce travail sous-estimé, invisible et non reconnu. L’étude élaborée par Oxfam en Tunisie en partenariat avec AFTURD, montre que les femmes passent entre 8 et 12 heures par jour dans le travail de soin non rémunéré (dépendamment de leur âge, leur situation familiale et économique, et leur lieu de résidence), contre 45 minutes en moyenne pour les hommes. Les causes et conséquences de cette répartition inégale sont nombreuses et interreliées. En tenant compte des résultats de la recherche, et afin d’autonomiser les femmes et améliorer leurs bien-être, Oxfam recommande de : reconnaitre la travail de soins non rémunéré en tant que travail, de réduire le fardeau qu’il constitue, de redistribuer plus équitablement les responsabilités associées entre les hommes et les femmes, au sein des ménages, et entre les ménages, l’État et le secteur privé, et de garantir la représentation des personnes prenant en charge les activités de soins dans les postes de prise de décision et de leadership.

The memoirs of (post-) punk musician Viv Albertine address the issue of choice or lack thereof in romantic and family relationships. They depict a world in which choice of romantic partners appears normal if often unsuccessful, whereas choice within family relationships is restricted. It is self-evident that one cannot choose one’s blood relatives. However, amplified by Albertine’s scepticism towards any social relationships, her two memoirs represent ‘negative choice’ (Eva Illouz) in heterosexual romantic relationships and the complex ways in which negative choice can change family dynamics. In her memoirs, Albertine presents loneliness as the opposite of love which aligns with her model of choice, as it is preferable to live a lonely life over being bound up in love relationships, romantic or familial, which are harmful to one’s wellbeing. This article demonstrates how the ethos of early punk is translated into an uncompromising process of life writing which presents itself as faithfulness towards the individual’s core need for self-realisation and self-expression against the backdrop of failing romantic and familial relationships, severe physical and mental health problems, a self-diagnosis of autism and a patriarchal society.

Condition being studied: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the most common complication of diabetes mellitus, which will seriously affect the quality of life of patients and bring great burden to patients’ families and society. DR is one of the most important diseases of blindness in people aged 20 to 60 years worldwide. Nearly 15% of diabetic patients with a disease duration of more than 5 years were combined with DR.The prevalence of vision threatening diabetic retinopathy in the United States is 4.4 percent. Worldwide, the prevalence is estimated at 10.2%.At present, the treatment methods for type 2 proliferative diabetic retinopathy (T2PDR), at home and abroad mainly include retinal laser photocoagulation and intravitreal injection of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitors.

Across the globe, unpaid care and domestic work (UCDW) sustains communities and economies, provides essential care for children, sick and elderly people and those living with disabilities, and keeps households clean and families fed. Without unpaid care, the global economy as we know it would grind to a halt. Yet this work falls disproportionately on women and girls, limiting their opportunities to participate in decent paid employment, education, leisure and political life. Heavy and unequal UCDW traps women and girls in cycles of poverty and stops them from being part of solutions. To help address this, Oxfam, together with a number of partners, has been working in over 25 countries to deliver the Women’s Economic Empowerment and Care (WE-Care) programme since 2013. WE-Care aims to reignite progress on gender equality by addressing heavy and unequal UCDW. By recognizing, reducing and redistributing UCDW, WE-Care is promoting a just and inclusive society where women and girls have more choice at every stage of their lives, more opportunities to take part in economic, social and political activities, and where carers’ voices are heard in decision making about policies and budgets at all levels. This overview document aims to highlight the approaches taken and lessons learned on unpaid care that Oxfam has implemented in collaboration with partners in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia.

The main recommendations of the panel report can be summarised under five key headings: Building the Scottish Bronze Age: Narratives should be developed to account for the regional and chronological trends and diversity within Scotland at this time. A chronology Bronze Age Scotland: ScARF Panel Report iv based upon Scottish as well as external evidence, combining absolute dating (and the statistical modelling thereof) with re-examined typologies based on a variety of sources – material cultural, funerary, settlement, and environmental evidence – is required to construct a robust and up to date framework for advancing research. Bronze Age people: How society was structured and demographic questions need to be imaginatively addressed including the degree of mobility (both short and long-distance communication), hierarchy, and the nature of the ‘family’ and the ‘individual’. A range of data and methodologies need to be employed in answering these questions, including harnessing experimental archaeology systematically to inform archaeologists of the practicalities of daily life, work and craft practices. Environmental evidence and climate impact: The opportunity to study the effects of climatic and environmental change on past society is an important feature of this period, as both palaeoenvironmental and archaeological data can be of suitable chronological and spatial resolution to be compared. Palaeoenvironmental work should be more effectively integrated within Bronze Age research, and inter-disciplinary approaches promoted at all stages of research and project design. This should be a two-way process, with environmental science contributing to interpretation of prehistoric societies, and in turn, the value of archaeological data to broader palaeoenvironmental debates emphasised. Through effective collaboration questions such as the nature of settlement and land-use and how people coped with environmental and climate change can be addressed. Artefacts in Context: The Scottish Chalcolithic and Bronze Age provide good evidence for resource exploitation and the use, manufacture and development of technology, with particularly rich evidence for manufacture. Research into these topics requires the application of innovative approaches in combination. This could include biographical approaches to artefacts or places, ethnographic perspectives, and scientific analysis of artefact composition. In order to achieve this there is a need for data collation, robust and sustainable databases and a review of the categories of data. Wider Worlds: Research into the Scottish Bronze Age has a considerable amount to offer other European pasts, with a rich archaeological data set that includes intact settlement deposits, burials and metalwork of every stage of development that has been the subject of a long history of study. Research should operate over different scales of analysis, tracing connections and developments from the local and regional, to the international context. In this way, Scottish Bronze Age studies can contribute to broader questions relating both to the Bronze Age and to human society in general.

The Research Chair in the Generational Digital Divide undertakes activities aimed at furthering knowledge about the causes, consequences and solutions to the digital divides caused by age gaps. This report shows the research project carried out in 2021 to learn more about how the digital divide affects over 54s living in the Valencia Region, by province, with a focus on intergenerational relationships. To this end, an exploratory survey targeted at over 54s years old and over 39s years old in the Valencia Region, based on primary sources and combining quantitative and qualitative techniques, has been conducted. The data reveals that, while a large percentage of over 54s declare that they have access to and are users of new technologies, much remains to be done for access and usage to become universal, especially at older ages. The report analyses how technology is used, considering its purpose and context, according to age and other significant variables. Differences in technology usage have been found across age groups and between women and men. The report contains information on, among other relevant aspects, online services, and especially on e-banking, the healthcare system and e-administration. Differences between age groups have been found for all indicators, shedding light on intergenerational relationships within the family that are crucial for older people. The Research Chair is an initiative by the Valencia Region Government’s Directorate General for the Fight Against the Digital Divide and stems from the collaboration between the Regional Department for Innovation, Science, Universities and Digital Society and the University of Alicante.
