Purpose Due to existence of skin effect under rotational excitation, especially to high-frequency motors and power transformers run at the frequency of hundreds or even thousands of hertz, core losses will increase significantly, which may cause local overheating damage, and the efficiency and longevity will be decreased. The purpose of this paper is to accurately calculate the rotational anomalous loss in electrical steel sheets. Design/methodology/approach The influence of skin effect to rotational anomalous loss coefficient is described in detail. Based on the rotational core losses calculation approach, the transformed coefficient and parameters of rotational anomalous loss are determined in accordance with experimental data obtained by using 3D magnetic properties testing system. Then, a variable loss coefficient calculation model of rotational anomalous loss is built. Meanwhile, a separation of the total 2D elliptical rotation experimental core losses is worked out. Findings The two methods are analysed and compared qualitatively. It should be noted that the novel calculation model can be more effectively presented anomalous loss features. Moreover, quantitative comparisons between 2D elliptical rotation and alternating core losses have achieved beneficial conclusions. Originality/value Transformed rotational anomalous loss coefficient and parameters of electrical steel sheets considering skin effect are determined. Based on that, a novel calculation model evaluating 2D elliptical rotation anomalous loss is presented and verified based on the experimental measurement and the separation of the total 2D elliptical rotation core losses. The 2D elliptical rotation core losses separation method and quantitative comparison with alternating excitation are helpful to engineering application.

A complex signal processing technique is usually required to process the data in most sensor design structures, and integration into real applications is also challenging. This work presents a dynamic rotational sensor using polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) fiber for robot movement assessment. The sensor design structure is based on the coupling of light intensity, in which two PMMA fibers are twisted together. Both fibers are bent after twisting and attached on the linear translation stage, which is further attached to the robot. The variation in bending radius causes the bending loss, and that loss is coupled in the second fiber. The change in the macro-bend radius corresponds to the rotation of the robot. Experimental results indicate that the sensor can operate in full rotational cycle (i.e., 0°–360°) as well as for clock and anti-clockwise rotation. Moreover, different rotational speeds (2°/s, 3°/s, 5°/s, and 10°/s) were carried out. The hysteresis loss of the sensor was about 0.77% and the sensitivity was 8.69 nW/°. The presented dynamic rotational sensor is cost-effective and easily integrated into the robot structure to analyze the robot’s circular motion.

The efficiency of electrical machines carries a global impact because they fulfill about three-quarters of global electrical energy consumption. Its improvement requires a sound knowledge of energy loss properties of magnetic materials used in the core of electrical machines, especially non-conventional supply conditions, such as non-sinusoidal, high induction, alternating (1-D) and rotating (2-D) flux waveforms that have been posed with the incorporation of new electronic devices and materials in the systems. For these reasons, novel theoretical models and experimental techniques need to be developed to obtain the loss behavior under these complex flux regimes. To address these issues, experimental investigation and theoretical analysis have been carried out in this thesis on different magnetic materials and a wide ensemble of supply conditions. The aim of the theoretical analysis was to fill the gap between the physicists and the engineers by developing simple models that can be applied to compute the loss under realistic supply conditions. This theoretical frame is rooted in the physical principle of the separation of loss and the Statistical Theory of Loss (STL) by which the loss can be separated into the hysteresis, classical, and excess components. The concept of loss separation has been exploited under 1-D flux and extended to 2-D fluxes, where the relations between alternating and rotational losses have been obtained on a number of different materials, this analysis restricted to the region not influenced by skin effect. The proposed theoretical models have been tested by comparing loss figure of different magnetic materials over a wide range of frequencies, induction levels, and conventional or non-conventional supply conditions. To this purpose, loss characterization of non-oriented Fe-(3.2wt \%)Si steels have been performed using a three phase magnetizer able to generate 1-D and 2-D flux patterns, up to saturation magnetization. Fieldmetric and Thermometric methods have been applied at low and very high induction levels. Loss characterization of other non-oriented Fe-Si and low carbon steels have also been performed under 1-D flux at very low and high sinusoidal inductions using Epstein frame, single sheet tester or ring samples, over frequencies ranging from quasi-static conditions up to 10 kHz. Systematic uncertainties have been observed in measurements using a Single Sheet Tester due to MMF drop in flux closing yoke and a compensated Permeameter has been designed to reduce these uncertainties by compensating the MMF drop in the flux closing yoke.

The subject of this diploma thesis is a study of the influence of cellulose ethers on the rheological properties of lime. The theoretical part focuses on rheological parameters, techniques and test equipment used in rheology measurements. Various types of cellulose ethers and their influence on the rheological properties of fresh mortars are described. The practical part deals with the study of the influence of different types and quantities of cellulose ethers on the properties of fresh lime pastes and mortars. The results were obtained from measurements on a rotational rheometer with a special geometry for building materials. Measuring methods used were flow and oscillatory tests. Yield stress, viscosity and flow index were determined by the flow measurement. The stability and stiffness of fresh materials were determined during the oscillation measurements. The measured results are then evaluated and compared.

Alguna vez y por diferentes motivos la palabra “millennials” ha sido escuchada y leída en distintos ámbitos, ya sean personales, profesionales o académicos. Los miembros de esta generación destacan por su adaptación al cambio, su alta autoestima, su familiaridad con la tecnología y su aporte con nuevas ideas sobre una determinada actividad. Esta generación representa actualmente la cuarta parte de la población peruana, lo que equivale a ocho millones de habitantes, los cuales tienen intereses muy particulares en relación al trabajo, a la calidad de vida y a su desarrollo personal. Su capacidad de relacionamiento es distinta a la de otras generaciones, están pendientes de las últimas tendencias de comunicación; la conectividad es parte de su ser, es la generación de la rapidez, del aquí y ahora. Sin embargo, el estar siempre conociendo nuevas tecnologías y nuevos procesos hace que los millennials no se sientan cómodos en una organización que no los rete, sobre todo cuando ya llevan laborando más de dos o tres años. Ante ello, la rotación laboral es un problema que todas las organizaciones a nivel mundial deben enfrentar, más aún, las empresas nacionales, donde la mayoría de sus colaboradores son representados por esta generación. Estas empresas deben preguntarse cuál o cuáles son los motivos por el que este personal rota de trabajo en trabajo, no sin antes reconocer en su organización al verdadero millennial para saber el tipo de liderazgo que deben aplicar los jefes para tenerlos y retenerlos dentro de sus equipos. El tiempo para la generación millennial vale mucho, en gran medida porque han crecido viendo a sus padres y abuelos dedicándole la mayor parte de su vida al trabajo, sus familias han vivido para trabajar y esta generación busca cambiar este concepto, en base al equilibrio entre el trabajo y su calidad de vida. El presente trabajo de investigación buscará mediante investigaciones, encuestas, entrevistas, tablas, teorías y cuadros estadísticos conocer cuáles son las razones principales por las que este grupo tiende a cambiar de empresa en el corto plazo y qué acciones deben tomar las organizaciones para retenerlos.
Abstrac: Once and for different reasons the word millennials have been heard and read in different fields, whether personal, professional or academic. The members of this generation stand out for their adaptation to change, their high self-esteem, their familiarity with technology and their contribution with new ideas about a particular activity. This generation currently represents a quarter of the Peruvian population, which is equivalent to eight million inhabitants, who have very particular interests in relation to work, quality of life and personal development. Their relationship capacity is different from that of other generations, they are pending the latest communication trends; Connectivity is part of your being, it is the generation of speed, from the here and now. However, being always aware of new technologies and new processes mean that millennials do not feel comfortable in an organization that does not challenge them especially when they have been working for more than two or three years. Given this, labor turnover is a problem that all organizations worldwide must face, even more, large companies, where most of their employees are represented by this generation. These companies must ask themselves what or what are the reasons why this staff rotates from work to work, but not before recognizing in their organization the true millennial to know the type of leadership that the bosses must apply to have them and retain them within their team. The time for the millennial generation is worth a lot, largely because they have grown up watching their parents and grandparents dedicating most of their lives to work, their families have lived to work and this generation seeks to change this concept, based on the balance between Work and its quality of life. This research work will search through research, surveys, interviews, tables, theories and statistical tables to know what are the main reasons why this group tends to change companies in the short term and what actions organizations should take to retain them.

De récentes études dans le champ du contrôle des mouvements humains ont montré que les signaux vestibulaires étaient impliqués dans les ajustements des mouvements du bras lorsqu'un déplacement imprévisible du corps survenait au cours d'un mouvement d'atteinte manuelle. L'objectif de nos travaux de doctorat était de préciser le rôle et l'utilisation des signaux vestibulaires dans le contrôle de la motricité brachiale, en tentant de mettre en évidence les bénéfices d'une intégration vestibulaire, la faible dépendance cognitive du contrôle vestibulo-brachial et le mode de combinaison des signaux vestibulaires avec les signaux visuo-oculomoteurs. Cela a été réalisé par des études comportementales chez l’homme sain ou pathologique (patient désafférenté) et par modélisation biomécanique. Nous avons ainsi montré que les signaux vestibulaires étaient intégrés au sein de modèles internes qui permettent de générer une commande motrice du bras qui compense les conséquences (cinétiques et cinématiques) du déplacement de l'individu, et ce en adéquation avec la tâche. L'information vestibulaire est traitée avec de faibles latences et sous une faible influence cognitive, ce qui lui confère un caractère de relative automaticité. Enfin la combinaison des signaux vestibulaires et oculomoteurs se fait selon un modèle fonctionnel dans lequel les signaux vestibulaires influencent l'aspect temporel de la poursuite manuelle alors que les signaux visuo-oculomoteurs permettent la production de la cinématique attendue. Nos résultats approfondissent ainsi les connaissances de la fonction vestibulaire puisqu’ils suggèrent l’existence d’un principe général régissant la contribution des signaux vestibulaires au contrôle du mouvement. Recent studies in human motor control have shown that vestibular signals can be used to control goal directed arm movements when an unexpected body displacement occurs during the movement. In this thesis, we investigated the specific functions of the vestibular signals to this control, and the mechanisms that are involved. This was done through behavioural studies performed with healthy human subjects and one deafferented patient, and biomechanical modelling. Our results highlight the remarkable computationnal capabilities of the brain which can process vestibular information to predict the consequences of body rotation on reaching movements. The vestibular control of arm movement i) is characterised by short latencies, ii) operates efficiently in darkness, iii) is largely automatic and iv) defines the temporal aspect of the movement. The control of the arm through vestibular information has therefore common characteristics with the vestibular control of ocular, cephalic and postural movements. Our findings bring important new insights about the functions of the vestibular because they suggest that there is a general principle underlying the contribution of vestibular signal to motor control. [EN] The combination of different materials to form a single structural member to take profit of their individual good characteristics is a successfully established practice in building industry. In concrete filled tubular columns (CFT) the combined action of steel and concrete results in many positive attributes at ambient temperature: high load-bearing capacity with smaller cross-section size, aesthetics, high stiffness and ductility and reduced construction cost. In the last decades, the use of CFT columns in building industry, especially in high-rise buildings, has increased not only because of their positive characteristics at room temperature, but also for their inherent high fire resistance. Besides, CFT sections are greatly versatile given that they admit different types of concrete infill such as plain concrete, bar-reinforced concrete or fiber reinforced concrete; and also a wide variety of shapes. Although the more commonly used shapes are circular, and rectangular, new configurations and shapes are continuously appearing together with innovative materials. The ambient temperature behavior of CFT columns has been deeply studied and, in turn, the investigations dealing with their fire behavior have increased. For its structural analysis, the column can be considered as an isolated member or as a column integrated in a structure interacting with other structural members. The review of the state of the art in the area of CFT columns in fire carried out in the framework of this thesis has pointed out that most works cover the fire response of isolated members and that the existing studies on columns within frames differ in their proposals and conclusions. In this thesis, the fire response of CFT columns is analyzed by means of a fiber beam element model. First, a realistic cross-sectional thermal model is implemented to be integrated in the thermo-mechanical model developed whose accuracy is validated against experimental results after its calibration. Parametric studies are carried out with the aim of investigating the main factors affecting the problem and developing a simple calculation method based on Eurocode 4 and using the concept of equivalent concrete core cross-section. Finally, given the reduced computational cost of the fiber model, the effects of axial and rotational restraint in the fire response of CFT columns are investigated by integrating the heated CFT column within a frame. A parametric analysis is performed in order to draw conclusions about this interaction and contrast the current code provisions. The scope of this thesis is limited to circular CFT columns subjected to concentric axial loads.

En los pilares tubulares de acero rellenos de hormigón (CFT) la acción conjunta del acero y el hormigón presenta muy buenas cualidades a temperatura ambiente: alta capacidad de carga con secciones pequeñas, buena apariencia, alta rigidez y ductilidad y bajo coste de puesta en obra. En las últimas décadas, el uso de pilares CFT en el sector de la construcción, especialmente en edificios de gran altura, ha aumentado no solo debido a sus buenas características a temperatura ambiente sino también por su inherente alta resistencia al fuego. Además, las secciones de pilares CFT son muy versátiles ya que admiten diferentes tipos de relleno, como hormigón en masa, con armaduras o reforzado con fibras; y también una amplia variedad de formas. Aunque los perfiles tubulares más usados son los circulares y rectangulares, nuevas configuraciones están continuamente en desarrollo junto con nuevos materiales. El comportamiento de los pilares CFT a temperatura ambiente ha sido ampliamente estudiado y, a su vez, las investigaciones sobre su comportamiento a fuego han aumentado. Para su análisis estructural, el pilar puede ser considerado como un elemento aislado o como un elemento integrado en una estructura que interactúa con otros elementos estructurales. La revisión del estado del arte en el área de los pilares CFT sometidos a fuego llevado a cabo en el marco de esta tesis ha puesto de manifiesto que la mayoría de los trabajos cubren la respuesta a fuego de elementos aislados y que los estudios existentes sobre pilares en estructuras difieren en sus propuestas y conclusiones. En esta tesis, la respuesta a fuego de pilares CFT se analiza por medio de un modelo de elementos viga con integración por fibras. En primer lugar, se implementa un modelo térmico realista para ser integrado en el modelo termo-mecánico desarrollado cuya precisión se valida con resultados experimentales después de ser calibrado. Un estudio paramétrico se lleva a cabo con el objeto de estudiar los principales factores que afectan al problema y desarrollar un modelo simplificado de cálculo basado en el Eurocódigo 4 Parte 1-1 y que emplea el concepto de sección equivalente del núcleo de hormigón. Finalmente, dado el reducido coste computacional del modelo de fibras, se investigan los efectos de la restricción axial y rotacional en la respuesta frente al fuego de los pilares CFT integrando la columna expuesta a fuego dentro de una subestructura. Se ejecuta un estudio paramétrico para extraer conclusiones sobre esta interacción y contrastar las prescripciones de la normativa actual. El alcance de esta tesis queda limitado a pilares CFT sin protección externa, de sección circular y sometidos a carga axial centrada.
[CAT] Combinar distints materials en un únic membre estructural per a aprofitar les fortaleses individuals de cada u és una pràctica consolidada amb èxit en el sector de la construcció. En els pilars tubulars d'acer omplerts de formigó (CFT) l'acció conjunta de l'acer i el formigó presenta molt bones qualitats a temperatura ambient: alta capacitat de càrrega amb seccions xicotetes, bona aparença, alta rigidesa i ductilitat i baix cost de posada en obra. En les últimes dècades, l'ús de pilars CFT en el sector de la construcció, especialment en edificis de gran altura, ha augmentat no sols degut a les seues bones característiques a temperatura ambient, sinó també per la seua inherent alta resistència al foc. A més, les seccions de pilars CFT són molt versàtils, doncs admeten distints tipus de farcit, com formigó en massa, amb armadures o reforçat amb fibres; i també una àmplia varietat de formes. Encara que els perfils tubulars més usats són els circulars i rectangulars, noves configuracions estan contínuament en desenvolupament junt amb nous materials. El comportament dels pilars CFT a temperatura ambient ha sigut àmpliament estudiat i, al mateix temps, les investigacions sobre el seu comportament a foc han augmentat. Per a la seua anàlisi estructural, el pilar pot ser considerat com un element aïllat o com un element integrat en una estructura que interactua amb altres elements estructurals. La revisió de l'estat de l'art en l'àrea dels pilars CFT sotmesos a foc, duta a terme en el marc d'aquesta tesi, ha posat de manifest que la majoria dels treballs cobreixen la resposta a foc d'elements aïllats, i que els estudis existents sobre pilars en estructures difereixen en les seues propostes i conclusions. En aquesta tesi, la resposta a foc de pilars CFT s'analitza mitjançant un model d'elements biga amb integració per fibres. En primer lloc, s'implementa un model tèrmic realista per a ser integrat en el model termo-mecànic desenvolupat, i la seua precisió es valida amb resultats experimentals desprès de ser calibrat. Un estudi paramètric es du a terme amb l'objectiu d'estudiar els principals factors que afecten al problema i desenvolupar un model simplificat de càlcul basat en l'Eurocodi 4, Part 1-1 i que empra el concepte de secció equivalent del nucli de formigó. This study aims to investigate hydraulics and the flow characteristics of drilling fluids inside annulus and to understand the mechanism of cuttings transport in horizontal and deviated wellbores. For this purpose, initially, extensive experimental studies have been conducted at Middle East Technical University, Petroleum &
Natural Gas Engineering Flow Loop using water and numerous drilling fluids for hole inclinations from horizontal to 60 degrees, flow velocities from 0.64 m/s to 3.05 m/s, rate of penetrations from 0.00127 to 0.0038 m/s, and pipe rotations from 0 to 120 rpm. Pressure loss within the test section and stationary and/or moving bed thickness are recorded. New friction factor charts and correlations as a function of Reynolds number and cuttings bed thickness with the presence of pipe rotation for water and drilling fluids in horizontal and deviated wellbores are developed by using experimental data. Meanwhile empirical correlations that can be used easily at the field are proposed for predicting stationary bed thickness and frictional pressure loss using dimensional analysis and the effect of the drilling parameters on hole cleaning is discussed. It has been observed that, the major variable influencing cuttings transport is fluid velocity. Moreover, pipe rotation drastically decreases the critical fluid velocity that is required to prevent the stationary cuttings bed development, especially if the pipe is making an orbital motion. A decrease in the pressure loss is observed due to the bed erosion while rotating the pipe. Cuttings transport in horizontal annulus is modeled using a CFD software for different fluid velocities, pipe rotation speeds and rate of penetrations. The CFD model is verified by using cuttings transport experiments. A mathematical model is also proposed to predict the flow characteristics of Newtonian fluids in concentric horizontal annulus with drillpipe rotation. The Navier-Stokes equations of turbulent flow are numerically solved using finite differences technique. A computer code is developed in Matlab 2007b for the proposed model. The performance of the proposed model is compared with the experimental data which were available in the literature and gathered at METU-PETE Flow Loop as well as Computational Fluids Dynamics (CFD) software. The results showed that the mechanistic model accurately predicts the frictional pressure loss and the velocity profile inside the annuli. The model&rsquo

Scoliosis is an anatomical deformity caused by a lateral and rotational shift in the thoracolumbar spine. Surgical correction involves wide exposure of the spine for placement of stabilizing rods and can result in significant complications from excessive blood loss and neurologic impairments. These procedures require vigilance to acid-base status, hemodynamic fluctuations, coagulation, temperature maintenance, and neurologic monitoring from anesthesiologists. Other major anesthetic considerations discussed include maintaining the integrity of perfusion to the spinal cord, positioning concerns, optimal technique for neuromonitoring, and pain control in the perioperative period. This chapter presents a case study of a 14-year-old girl with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis who presents for posterior spinal instrumentation and fusion from T4-L4 with autologous bone graft.

The forearm is a complex quadrilateral structure linked by the proximal and distal radioulnar joints, ligaments, which include the interosseous membrane and triangular cartilage, and several obliquely orientated muscles. A displaced fracture or ligament rupture within this forearm is likely to involve other structures. Treatment requires anatomic recovery of stable function. The ulnar corner can sustain fractures or ligament ruptures which affect stable, pain-free, congruous forearm rotation. The distal radius may fracture after high- or low-energy trauma; anatomic reduction may not be essential in all; inaccuracy may lead to loss of rotation and ulnocarpal abutment but long-term arthritis is unusual. Children’s fractures are managed with consideration of remodeling potential. The scaphoid is vulnerable to non-union; plaster immobilization, early percutaneous fixation, and later bone-grafting all have roles. Salvage for osteoarthritic non-union may reduce pain but compromises function. Rupture of the carpal ligaments may cause substantial disruption and require complex reconstruction.

The phenomenon of spin-rotation coupling provides the key to the determination of the kernel. Imagine an observer rotating in the positive sense about the direction of propagation of an incident plane monochromatic electromagnetic wave of positive helicity. Using the locality postulate, the field as measured by the rotating observer can be determined. If the observer rotates with the same frequency as the wave, the measured radiation field loses its temporal dependence. By a mere rotation, observers could in principle stay at rest with respect to an incident positive-helicity wave. To avoid this possibility, we assume that a basic radiation field cannot stand completely still with respect to an accelerated observer. This basic principle eventually leads to the determination of the kernel and a nonlocal theory of accelerated systems that is in better agreement with quantum mechanics than the standard theory based on the hypothesis of locality.

Review question / Objective: We seek to conduct a meta-analysis of relevant studies to evaluate and compare functional outcomes and complication rates between locked fibula intramedullary nail fixation and plate fixation for treatment of ankle fractures. Condition being studied: Ankle fractures, with an incidence rate of 4.22/10, 000 person-years in the United States, are one of the most common lower extremity fractures. Currently, the standard surgical treatment approaches for unstable ankle fractures involves open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) with plates and screws. However, ORIF has resulted in little efficacy during treatment of fractures since the 1960s, while plate and screw fixation has also been associated with several complications. Previous studies have shown that closed reduction and internal fixation (CRIF) with fibula intramedullary nail (IMN) has achieved satisfactory efficacy in treatment of ankle fractures, and is associated with low complication rates. Additionally, a systematic review showed that a locked intramedullary nail (LIMN) device provides better stability and rotation control, thereby reducing the risk of nail migration and loss of fixation, compared to unlocked nails. Therefore, a meta-analysis is imperative to provide evidence on whether LIMN can replace PF for treatment of ankle fractures, owing to an increase in related studies that have been published in recent years.

[c] Genetic analysis of vernalization response in domesticated x wild chickpea crosses. [d] Digital expression analysis of a core selection of breeding and germplasm lines of chickpea that differ in winter hardiness and vernalization. [e] Identification of the genes involved in the chickpea winter hardiness and vernalization and construction of gene network controlling these traits. [f] Assessing the phenotypic and genetic correlations between winter hardiness, vernalization response and Ascochyta blight response in chickpea. The complexity of the vernalization response and the inefficiency of our selection experiments (below) required quitting the work on ascochyta response in the framework of this project. Background to the subject: Since its introduction to the Palouse region of WA and Idaho, and the northern Great Plains, chickpea has been a spring rotation legume due to lack of winter hardiness. The short growing season of spring chickpea limits its grain yield and leaves relatively little stubble residue for combating soil erosion. In Israel, chilling temperatures limit pod setting in early springs and narrow the effective reproductive time window of the crop. Winter hardiness and vernalization response of chickpea alleles were lost due to a series of evolutionary bottlenecks; however, such alleles are prevalent in its wild progenitor’s genepool. Major conclusions, solutions, achievements: It appears that both vernalization response and winter hardiness are polygenic traits in the wild-domesticated chickpea genepool. The main conclusion from the fieldwork in Israel is that selection of domesticated winter hardy and vernalization responsive types should be conducted in late flowering and late maturity backgrounds to minimize interference by daylength and temperature response alleles (see our Plant Breeding paper on the subject). The main conclusion from the US winter-hardiness studies is that excellent lines have been identified for germplasm release and continued genetic study. Several of the lines have good seed size and growth habit that will be useful for introgressing winter-hardiness into current chickpea cultivars to develop releases for autumn sowing. We sequenced the transcriptomes and profiled the expression of genes in 87 samples. Differential expression analysis identified a total of 2,452 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between vernalized plants and control plants, of which 287 were shared between two or more Cicer species studied. We cloned 498 genes controlling vernalization, named CVRN genes. Each of the CVRN genes contributes to flowering date advance (FDA) by 3.85% - 10.71%, but 413 (83%) other genes had negative effects on FDA, while only 83 (17%) had positive effects on FDA, when the plant is exposed to cold temperature. The cloned CVRN genes provide new toolkits and knowledge to develop chickpea cultivars that are suitable for autumn-sowing. Scientific & agricultural implications: Unlike the winter cereals (barley, wheat) or pea, in which a single allelic change may induce a switch from winter to spring habit, we were unable to find any evidence for such major gene action in chickpea. In agricultural terms this means that an alternative strategy must be employed in order to isolate late flowering – ascochyta resistant (winter types) domesticated forms to enable autumn sowing of chickpea in the US Great Plains. An environment was identified in U.S. (eastern Washington) where autumn-sown chickpea production is possible using the levels of winter-hardiness discovered once backcrossed into advanced cultivated material with acceptable agronomic traits. The cloned CVRN genes and identified gene networks significantly advance our understanding of molecular mechanisms underlying plant vernalization in general, and chickpea in particular, and provide a new toolkit for switching chickpea from a spring-sowing to autumn-sowing crop.
