Al treball acompanya la descripció i traducció directa des del bicolà al valencià d’un dels principals romanços filipins que tracten del Regne de Valencia: Cabayong Tabla. Buhay ni Principe don Juan Asin ni Princesa Dña. Maria Sa Cahadean nin Valencia asin Asturias –«Cavall de Taula»–, text per primera vegada traduït a qualsevol llengua. Així mateix, analitzem les fonts i descrivim la història argumental i la presència de València al Romancer filipí con a treball comparatista que puga donar llum a la formalització del classicisme en les Lletres Filipines des de la literatura medieval de tradició hispànica.Palabras clave: Romancer hispànic, awit i corrido, Filipines, Regne de València, literatura hispànica, bicolà.Abstract: The paper introduces the development of the Philippine metrical romances from the Hispanic tradition and the presence of the Kingdom of Valencia as Asian literary topic. It is supplied with the first translation ever done from the original Bicolano into Catalan of one of the most relevant romances dealing with the Valencian topic: Cabayong Tabla. Buhay ni Principe don Juan Asin ni Princesa Dña. Maria Sa Cahadean nin Valencia asin Asturias –«Wooden Horse». We analyse the sources and the plot of the romance in order to compare and enlight the genesis of Philippine Classical Literature with the Medieval Hispanic Romancero.Keywords: Hispanic Romancero, Philippine Metrical Romances, awit and corridor, Philippines, Kingdom of Valencia, Bicolano.

The article examines the Rhaeto-Romance language ("Bündnerromansch", "Romansch") as part of the linguistic diversity in the Swiss Confederation, which has reached the status of an official language in the country, although it is currently spoken by less than one per cent of its population. An overview of the history of today's canton Graubünden - a mountainous region where Rhaeto-Romance is mainly used – is reviewed. Attention is drawn to Peider Lansel's struggle to assert and preserve the language; the role of Lia Rumantscha organization for its recognition as the fourth national language in the past, and today - for the spread of Rhaeto-Romance culture through education, promotion of the spoken and written language, support and coordination of projects of regional Romansh associations. A brief statistical report shows the percentage of the population in the state using this language as the main one. Several major dialects of Romansch are briefly considered, from which the common written language of Rhaeto-Romance developed, called Rumantsch Grischun; the role of music, television and radio in its dissemination and preservation; its promotion activities, such as publishing books and textbooks, efforts to establish it as a first language in its distribution areas.

El romance, por su carácter popular, suele tener elementos costumbristas que forman parte de la cultura en la que se crea y se transmite. La idea es extraer del rastreo de nuestras principales colecciones de romances las noticias sobre la vida cotidiana del niño en la época barroca. Por acotar un campo tan amplio, nuestro análisis se centra en las informaciones sobre la educación, los juegos y las canciones infantiles que se documentan en el romancero, convencidos de que componen unretrato suficientemente amplio de la cotidianidad del niño del Barroco

As várias manifestações da escrita híbrida de história e ficção têm composto um leque de romances que evidenciam a constante evolução do gênero romance histórico. Mais recentemente, o gênero passou a apresentar romances com novas características, romances estes que, a partir dos estudos de Fleck (2017), puderam encontrar espaço próprio entre as classificações e passaram a ser classificados dentro da fase mediadora do romance histórico e da modalidade do romance histórico contemporâneo de mediação. Dentre os romances estudados pelas teorias do romance histórico, encontramos a obra de Calado (1992) Imperatriz no fim do mundo: memórias dúbias de Amélia de Leuchtemberg que se enquadra no que os estudos de Fleck (2007; 2017) apontam como características de um romance histórico da mais recente modalidade do gênero. Com base na trajetória dos romances híbridos de historia e ficção, e nas teorias de Hutcheon (1992), Menton (1993), Mata Induráin (1995), Fleck (2007; 2017), dentre outros, buscamos por meio deste artigo apontar reflexões que classifiquem o romance de Calado como mais um dos romances históricos contemporâneos de mediação.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to empirically investigate whether employee attitudes, prior engagement in workplace romances, conscientiousness, and organizational policies predicted the willingness to engage in workplace romances. Design/methodology/approach – In total, 148 full-time employees completed an online survey measuring antecedents of workplace romances. Participants were also randomly assigned to read vignettes that varied the strictness of organizational workplace romance policies. Then, participants completed measures of their willingness to engage in a workplace romance. Findings – Favorable attitudes about, and prior engagement in, workplace romances were positively related to the willingness to engage in a workplace romance. Prior engagement in workplace romances and conscientiousness were both related to attitudes about workplace romances. Additionally, the interaction between conscientiousness and organizational workplace romance policies significantly predicted the willingness to engage in a workplace romance. Research limitations/implications – The current study used hypothetical scenarios and a convenience sample to collect data, which may affect the study’s external validity. Practical implications – Organizations grappling with the issue of workplace romances should consider how employee characteristics may interact with policies regulating workplace romances. Originality/value – This study is the first to examine the links between both prior engagement in workplace romances and personality variables (i.e. conscientiousness) and their relation to the willingness to engage in workplace romances. In addition, this is the first experimental study to examine the interaction between personality (i.e. conscientiousness) and organizational policy in predicting the willingness to engage workplace romances.

In this paper, I analyze Russian translations and close imitations of Spanish Romancero poetry composed between 1789 and the 1930s, as well as Russian original poems of the same period marked by “Spanish” motifs. I discuss the Spanish romance as an international European genre, and show how this verse form’s distinctive features were transferred into Russian poetry and how the Russian version – or, rather, several Russian versions – of this form came into being. I pay special attention to the genesis of the stanza composed of a regular sequence of feminine (F) and masculine (m) clausulae FFFm. In Johann Gottfried Herder’s Der Cid, this clausula pattern was combined with unrhymed trochaic tetrameters, but, in early twentieth-century Russia, it emancipated from this metrical form, having retained the semantic leitmotifs of the Spanish romance, as well as its “Spanish” theme. I contextualize other translation equivalents of romance verse and compare them to the original Spanish verse form. I show (1) which forms poets used in translating romance verse and how those forms correlate (formally and functionally) with the original meter. Further, I discuss (2) when and how the trochaic tetrameters rhyming on even lines (XRXR) – originally used in translations of Spanish romances in German and English poetry – became the equivalent of romance verse in the Russian tradition. Finally, I demonstrate (3) how, in Konstantin Balmont’s translations of Spanish poetry, the FFFm clausula pattern lost its connection with trochee. After Balmont, other poets of the Silver Age of Russian literature started using it in original non-trochaic compositions to express “Spanish” semantics.

As lendas são consideradas os romances do povo e, inversamente, os romances populares seriam as lendas dos leitores comuns. Partindo de estudos formais dos contos orais e de romances populares modernos e ampliando o campo para incluir o romance antigo, este ensaio examina precisamente a concordância e a divergência entre lenda e romance. O estudo mostra que os contos de fada e os romances populares compartilham de algumas características, bem como divergem de modo particular. Finalmente questiona se os dois estilos característicos - o tipológico e o sensato - são absolutos ou representam apenas tendências manifestadas por cada gênero.

O artigo apresenta uma análise da especificidade da trilogia “O tempo e o vento”, de Erico Veríssimo, formada pelos romances “O continente” (1949), “O retrato” (1951) e “O arquipélago” (1962), em razão de que muitos críticos literários consideram apenas o primeiro romance como histórico e não a trilogia como um todo. Partindo dessa problemática, reflete-se sobre a especificidade de “O retrato” e “O arquipélago”, concluindo-se que os dois romances quando analisados em separado de “O continente” perdem a condição de romance histórico e se tornam romances políticos devido à contemporaneidade e à predominância das ideias políticas em suas páginas, mas, quando analisados juntos, verifica-se que a trilogia possui todas as principais características do romance histórico e, por isso, deve ser considerada como tal.

La idea de Roma Aeterna se encarnó a veces (por ejemplo, sendos poemas heterocrónicos de Vasile Alecsandri y Giovanni Pascoli) en figuras y situaciones fantásticas que simbolizaban la permanencia de la civilización romana y latina entre sus descendientes modernos. Entre los romanches de Surselva, en el cantón suizo de los Grisones, un buen ejemplo de ello es «La puorpra romana» (1915), de Sep Mudest Nay. En este breve poema narrativo, la convivencia heterocrónica de dos momentos históricos distintos (la Roma antigua y la Romanchía moderna) sirve para subrayar simbólicamente lo extraordinario e incluso sobrenatural de la pervivencia lingüística de la latinidad en aquella pequeña región alpina. Años después, Ursicin G. G. Derungs utilizó el mismo procedimiento heterocrónico en su cuento «Cicero a Cuera» (1988) para desmitificar esa latinidad superviviente en Romanchía celebrada por el nacionalismo etnocultural de Nay. El informe al senado romano de una visita de Cicerón a la capital moderna de los Grisones se combina con fenómenos contemporáneos de protesta y represión, de modo que se identifican imperialismos globalizadores antiguos y modernos, y se sugiere lo inane del etnonacionalismo tradicionalista en el contexto contemporáneo.

Nessas passagens, esse romance antigo romano mostra-se especialmente realístico e crítico em comparação não somente com obras de gêneros literários da Antiguidade tidos como gêneros elevados, entre os quais figuram epopeias e tragédias, mas, também, com obras de gêneros então marginais, entre os quais figuram as fabulae Milesiae e os romances de amor e aventura gregos, idealistas, como os Big Five. A justaposição de passagens literárias transformadas, torcidas, distorcidas e retorcidas pela criatividade petroniana em relação ao conhecimento canônico, que é natural que seu público possuísse, sugere estranhamentos e efeitos humorísticos na recepção, não raro aportando-lhe resultados cômicos cada vez mais intensos à medida que se aprofundam as interpretações.

O romanche é um conjunto de línguas faladas na Suíça que faz parte do grupo reto-românico, ao qual, também pertencem dois outros conjuntos de línguas faladas na Itália, a saber, o ladino dolomítico e do friulano. Esta tese apresenta uma visão panorâmica e diacrônica do reto-românico em sua unidade, bem como o detalhamento da sua diversidade nas cinco línguas romanches (sobresselvano, subselvano, sobremirano, valáder e puter) e em suas variantes extintas documentadas, com vistas ao estudo da construção verbo+advérbio de lugar. Será usado como corpus todas as ocorrências dessa construção coletadas nos quinze volumes da Crestomatia Reto-românica (Rhätoromanische Chrestomatie), compilada por Decurtins (1983-1985). Diante da diversidade gráfica, referir-se-á a cada construção específica pelo uso da variante suprarregional intitulada romanche grisão (rumantsch grischun).
Romansh is a set of languages spoken in Switzerland that is part of the Rhaeto-Romance group, to which two other sets of languages spoken in Italy, namely the Dolomite Ladin and the Friulian, also belong. This work presents a panoramic and diachronic view of the Romansh in its unity, as well as the detailing of its diversity in its five Romansh languages (Surselvan, Sutsilvan, Surmiran, Valader and Puter) and its documented extinct variants, and aims to study its verb + adverb of place phrases. It will be used as corpus all the occurrences of this construction collected in the fifteen volumes of the Rhätoromanische Chrestomatie, compiled by Decurtins (1983-1985). In view of the writing diversity, reference will be made to each specific construction by the use of the supraregional variant called Rumantsch Grischun.

The aim of this study is to demonstrate that Wells's early works are the supreme fruits of his ambiguous and complicated reaction against, and interaction with, romance and realism in fiction. Wells's efforts concentrate on combating against and, at the same time, capitalising on the popular narratives that flooded the expanding fin-de-siècle mass market and the powerful influence of the continental and American Realists. In so doing, Wells eventually purports to revive and modify the English novel tradition from Chaucer to Scott and Dickens, and the romantic transformation of everyday life without losing a sense of reality. By reading Wells's fictional and non-fictional works published between the 1890s and the 1900s, this thesis maintains that Wells is a novelist who could exploit romance contingencies in his fiction Wells's early literary criticism demonstrates that his theory of the novel is preoccupied with the potential of the romance rather than with the strict realistic representation of everyday life advocated by Naturalists and Realists. His non-scientific romances reveal Wells's instinctive grasp of the romance potential Wells's major scientific romances confirm his effort in writing within the established romance grammar and deconstruct the forms and themes of fìn-de-siècle popular romances. Mikhail Bakhtin's theory of carnivalism and Foucaulťs theory of power are also applied to Wells's texts. This study contends that Wells's major scientific romances not only differentiate themselves from other popular narratives but also create a new genre: the carnivalesque romance. Wells's early twentieth century Utopian projects continue the carnival theme, and develop the carnivalised narrative space in which the sociologist's logical speculation is mixed with the romancer’s dream. Reading Wells's Edwardian novels, Tono-Bungay and The History of Mr Polly as marking a turning point in his literary career, the thesis advocates that when Wells ceased to be a romancer, his creative energy began to wane.

This work proposes to analyze the literary creation by Carlos Heitor Cony, about the novels Pessach: a travessia (1967) and Romance sem Palavras (1999), bringing into relation with History and Literature in the analyzed works, according Hayden White (1992; 1994) about History/Literature relation, and Gilberto Velho (1988; 1994), about memory and retrospective, and Stuart Hall (1982; 2002) about post-modern identity. The research concerning Cony s literature focalizes relation beside two novels and the lived facts for Brazilian society while the Military Dictatorship post-64, observing like the author recuperates the individual and collective memory for comprehension of present time by your characters. We find in Pessach a mixture between History and fiction that has knowledge of citations and situations from epoch, yonder various characters recognizable easily in Brazil History. Cony, in Pessach, making description of opposition factions to the dictatorship and epoch government, says about a big Brazilian group that in the military political system hesitates between plans and memory that should form your identity. Romance sem palavras also doesn t addict neither historical nor memorialistical. His characters never being, they are fictitious, and the their relation too. However isn t contestable that novel has historical episodes of the Brazil post-1964. So Romance sem Palavras and Pessach: a travessia bring the History and overcoat they permit the facts analyze as well as comportments, and your consequences to lived reality in this beginning century 21st. Certainly the contributions of those novels reaffirm the merit of the literary creation by Carlos Heitor Cony and they permit new horizons to the studies modern History of Brazil e to the practice to tell plots
O presente trabalho se propõe a analisar a produção literária de Carlos Heitor Cony, mais especificamente os romances Pessach: a travessia (1967) e Romance sem Palavras (1999), considerando a inter-relação entre história e literatura nas obras analisadas, fundamentando-se nos estudos de Hyden White (1992; 1994) sobre a relação história/literatura, na noção de memória e retrospectiva encontrada em Gilberto Velho (1988; 1994), e nas reflexões sobre a construção da identidade pós-moderna apresentada por Stuart Hall (1982; 2002). A investigação na literatura de Cony enfoca a relação entre os dois romances e os fatos vividos pela sociedade brasileira durante a Ditadura Militar pós-64, observando com o autor recupera a memória individual e coletiva para a compreensão do tempo presente de seus personagens. Em Pessach encontramos uma mescla da história e da ficção, o que se pode perceber pelas diversas citações e situações da época, além de vários personagens facilmente reconhecíveis na história do Brasil. Nele Cony, ao descrever as facções de resistência à ditadura e ao governo da época, trata verdadeiramente de uma imensa quantidade de brasileiros que durante o regime militar flutuaram entre projetos e memória que constituiriam sua identidade. Também Romance sem palavras não abre mão nem do histórico nem do memorialístico. Seus personagens nunca existiram, são ficcionais, como também é ficcional o relacionamento entre eles. Entretanto é incontestável a inserção dos episódios por eles vividos num período histórico explicitamente citado e caracterizado no Brasil dos anos sessenta e setenta do século XX, fazendo novamente uso das relações entre ficção, história e memória. Assim, tanto Romance sem Palavras quanto Pessach: a travessia, ao discutirem a realidade vivida pelos personagens durante e após a Ditadura Militar no Brasil, recuperam a história e, sobretudo, possibilitam a análise de fatos, comportamentos e suas conseqüências para a realidade vivida neste início de século. Certamente as contribuições dessas obras tanto para a história quanto para a literatura reafirmam a importância da produção literária de Carlos Heitor Cony e abrem novas perspectivas para os estudos da história recente do Brasil e para o exercício de historicizar as narrativas literárias

Análise da construção da personagem feminina nos romances Middlemarch, de George Eliot (1871-72), e The Portrait of a Lady (1881), de Henry James, observando como a exploração da subjetividade das protagonistas ao longo de suas trajetórias interfere no enredo e na concepção do romance como um todo. A finalidade última é verificar como esses autores contribuem para o nascimento do romance moderno.

This paper intends to analyze the figurations of women in Cornélio Penna’s three first novels - Fronteira (1935), Dois romances de Nico Horta (1939) e Repouso (1948). Having this in mind, the research begins by verifying in what manner subjectivity was assimilated by the Western novels. As a result of new narrative techniques, such as inner monologue and flow of consciousness, the Romanesque prose formulates the representation of masculine consciousness in modern society. In Brazil, during the 1930s, the group of catholic authors, working on introspection narratives, starts dedicating a definite space for the representation of femininity. As a part of this literary system, Cornélio Penna’s works represent the situation of women within the Brazilian patriarchal family. Thus, on the one hand, the analysis will focus on the spatiality of home and the culture of Minas Gerais, constitutive of feminine subjectivity, but on the other hand, it will consider the roles taken by women within the family circle, and their subjection to the power of the pater familias.
O presente trabalho pretende analisar a figuração da mulher nos três primeiros romances de Cornélio Penna – Fronteira (1935), Dois romances de Nico Horta (1939) e Repouso (1948). Dessa forma, inicia-se o estudo verificando a maneira pela qual o romance ocidental passou a incorporar a subjetividade humana. Por meio de novas técnicas narrativas, tais como o monólogo interior e o fluxo de consciência, a prosa romanesca passa a representar a consciência do homem na modernidade. No Brasil, durante a década de 1930, o grupo de escritores católicos, construindo narrativas de introspecção, passa a figurar novos espaços destinados para o feminino. Inserido dentro deste sistema literário, as obras de Cornélio Penna representam a condição da mulher no interior da família patriarcal brasileira. Nesse sentido, o foco da análise concentra-se, de um lado, na espacialidade mineira e da casa, formadoras da subjetividade feminina; de outro lado, pretende-se analisar as funções exercidas pela mulher, dentro do grupo familiar, e sua sujeição ao poder do pater familias.

Esta tese desenvolve um estudo da trajetória do escritor português contemporâneo José Saramago (1922-2010) no seu trabalho com o gênero romanesco. Desse modo, procura-se reconstituir o percurso do autor pelo gênero, por meio da análise interpretativa de três de seus romances, nos quais se pode perceber a influência de diferentes orientações estéticas ao longo dos anos. Para isso, apresenta-se uma breve descrição de cunho histórico do percurso da própria formação do gênero romanesco, no âmbito geral da cultura ocidental, e também, especificamente, no cenário da literatura portuguesa. Essa recuperação histórica é feita com base nos estudos de teóricos da forma romance, como Auerbach, Watt, Lukács, Bakhtin, Rosenfeld, Jozef e Hutcheon, entre outros e, no que diz respeito ao romance português, com base em autores como Simões, Saraiva e Lopes, Reis, Mendonça, Seixo, Flory, entre outros pesquisadores. Com o intuito de perceber as diferentes fases pelas quais o romance de Saramago passa, apresenta-se, ainda, um encadeamento cronológico de enredos de toda a produção romanesca do autor, pautado em parte de sua fortuna crítica, a fim de embasar a análise dos romances selecionados como corpus deste trabalho, a saber: Manual de pintura e caligrafia (1977), Memorial do convento (1982) e As intermitências da morte (2005). This thesis aims to develop a study of the trajectory of the Portuguese contemporary writer José Saramago (1922-2010) in his novels. Thus, we try to reconstruct the author's journey through the formal structure of the novel, by interpretive analysis of three of his novels, in which we can see the influence of different artistic aesthetic orientations over the years. For this, we present a brief description in a historical point-of-view of the course of formation of the novelistic genre inside the general framework of Western culture, and also specifically in the setting of Portuguese literature. This historical recovery is based on studies of researches of the novel form, as Auerbach, Watt, Lukács, Bakhtin, Rosenfeld, Jozef and Hutcheon, among others, and, regarding the Portuguese novel, we based on authors such as Simões, Saraiva e Lopes, Reis, Mendonça, Seixo, Flory, among other researchers. In order to understand the different phases through which passes Saramago's novel, we also presents a brief timely recovery on all his novelistic production, based on part of his critics, in order to base the analysis of some selected novels which are the corpus of this work: Manual de pintura e caligrafia (1977), Memorial do convento (1982) e As intermitências da morte (2005). This essay examines how twentieth century Iranian readers situated Jane Eyre within the classical genre of romance literature (adabiyāt-i ʿāshiqāna), originating from the tradition of love narratives in verse (ʿishq-nāma) pioneered by the twelfth century Persian poet Nizami Ganjevi. While romance is only one among several of the original Jane Eyre’s modes of generic belonging, the translation and reception of Jane Eyre into Persian facilitated the novel’s generic recalibration. We show how the prohibition on romance literature following the 1979 Iranian revolution paved the way for foreign classics such as Jane Eyre to be read as romances in the classical sense of the term.

Este trabalho busca entender a representação da criminalidade na narrativa do romance policial Pssica, do autor Edyr Augusto Proença, publicada no ano de 2015. Para isso, destaca-se a tradução que a obra realiza da violência urbana das cidades paraenses. O objetivo da pesquisa é compreender como os traços da criminalidade se apresentam e como o autor elabora cenários, personagens, enredos e discursos sobre o tema. Os elementos evocados no romance Pssica revelam cenas, fatos, ambientes e sujeitos que se assemelham às contradições urbanas das cidades paraenses, em especial, de Belém. A obra está carregada de tensões, costuras sociais e relações de poder, desse modo, demonstra como a literatura se torna um instrumento de denúncia e espaço de revelação dos problemas urbanos. Algumas questões podem ser levantadas na pesquisa: A obra Pssica pode ser considerada um romance policial? Como o romance traduz e contextualiza o ambiente regional e a violência das cidades do Pará? Quais crimes se revelam e como o “Pssica” os representa? Assim, a pesquisa procura estudar o gênero romance policial e analisar passagens da obra para entender o diálogo da literatura com o contexto social paraense.

The blog post discusses the linguistic and cultural peculiarities of Piedmont and the Aosta Valley, two regions that have historically straddled France and Italy. It provides a brief historical linguistic overview of the development of Gallo-Romance languages (French, Franco-Provençal, and Occitan) in these regions. The piece describes the Francophile and Francophone orientation of Piedmont throughout its history, as well as the belated introduction of Tuscan (Italian). It stresses the singularity of Piedmontese, and its close linguistic relation to neighbouring Gallo-Romance languages. Against this background, the text assesses the current state and vitality of Franco- and Gallo-Romance peripheries within the borders of Italy, and explains how such identities have evolved, been reshaped or become politicized. Primordialist and constructivist perspectives on national (and minority) identities are combined to better understand the development, decay, and reconfiguration of linguistic and cultural identities in Piedmont and the Aosta Valley.

Peculiarities of translating romance novels are considered in the article. Examples from the novel by Kristan Higgins “Too good to be true” are given in order corresponding to their manifestation in the book. Special attention is given to the translation of realities. The main translation techniques used are transliteration and transcription, calquing, and combinations (concerning onomastic realities), descriptive translation and approximation (concerning everyday realities and associations). Besides, it is mentioned, that gender dimension is extremely pragmatically valid in the context of other stylistic and grammatical aspects of the text. The authors make a conclusion of dynamic changes in speech stereotypes towards blurring gender lines between masculine and feminine speech behavior. It is important to consider this fact when translating romance novels.

Social indexicality and enregisterment are basic notions of a theoretical model elaborated in the United States, the aim of which is to describe the relationship between the use of language variation and patterns of social behavior at the level of formal classification. This analytical approach is characterized by focusing on the interrelation of social performance and language awareness. In my contribution, I want to show how this modern methodology can give new impetus to the study of today’s problem areas in Europe, such as migration and language or urban life and language use. In particular, I am interested in the case of Catalan, which has been studied for some time by proponents of the North American enregisterment theory. This leads me to indicate that explicit forms of social conduct, such as language shift or the emblematic use of linguistic forms, can be interpreted with regard to the social indexicality of Catalan. I thus analyze them in a way which shows that authenticity and integration in Catalan society can be achieved to a considerable extent by practicing forms of linguistic enregisterment.
