This study aims to analyze the effect of managerial capability on improving earnings quality and firm value at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Nusa Dua – Bali. The variables used in this study are firm efficiency, free cash flow, firm value. The sample of this research was carried out by taking all the company's quarterly financial report data published by the Ritz-Carlton Hotel during the 2015-2019 period. Data analysis techniques used in this study: (1) multiple linear regression analysis with control variables, (2) moderated multiple linear regression analysis. The results of this study indicate that managerial capability has a significant effect on earnings quality. Managerial capability has a significant effect on firm value. Earnings quality has a significant effect on firm value. Earnings quality moderates the effect of managerial capability on firm value.

Introduction. Production of safe food requires the avoidance of using chemical means to bring weeds under control in cultivating crops. Existing tillage loosening and separating machine PRSM-5 Dokuchaevskaya optimizes the physical and mechanical state of the cultivated soil layer, while the weeds are carefully removed from the soil by combing out together with the whole weed root system and laid on the surface, where they dry up under the influence of climatic factors. During the operation of the tillage machine, about 30% of the total energy consumption is spent on the rotor drive. Therefore, this machine is not working satisfactorily in firm soils. Materials and Methods. The soil was considered as an elastic-plastic medium. The generalized Hookeʼs law model and a variant of the plastic flow theory were taken into account. To simplify the calculations, there was used the experimental study information on the position in space of the soil deformation surface. The intensity of stresses of polyplastic deformations of the soil layer was determined. For the numerical solution of the problem, the Ritz method was used. Results. In connection with the indicated disadvantages, the parameters of the rotor ripper are justified taking into account the reduction in energy consumption for its drive. As a result of solving the problem by the Ritz method, the geometric shape of the rotor ripper was determined. The energy performance of the section of the tillage machine was evaluated by the torque of the rotor drive of the loosening-separating device. The rotor drive torque was determined for rippers with flat, convex, and concave profiles and for the profile substantiated during the study. Discussion and Conclusion. The profile substantiated during the study provides the best conditions for transporting the soil at the initial moment of the rotor entry into the soil and the minimum energy consumption for its drive.

(Title: The Representation of Female Character in “Edge of Tomorrow” (2014) Film Based on Feminist Film Critics). This research analyzes the female character in Edge of Tomorrow, Rita Vrataski. This research intends to understand how female character is described in the film and how female character is described according to feminist film critic. The method used is descriptive qualitative method. This research also uses theory character and characterization in film and theory feminist film critic. As the result, Rita is described as a female soldier who has characteristics as committed, brave, assertive, strong, muscular, intelligent and skillful soldier. Even though Rita, as the female character who has man’s characteristics, she still needs help from another male character. Rita character in this film is still passive because the one who finishes the mission in the story is the male character, William Cage. This film proves that male domination still exists in story of film. Quixote is the second in the California-based Classics in Miniature series of short film versions of literary classics performed by puppets. The first film, Faust, was launched in 2008, and reviewed by Joachim Beug in Scenario 2008, Issue 2 (see http://publish.ucc.ie/scenario/2008/02/beug/09/en). The double challenge of condensing a work as vast as Cervantes’s Don Quijote – the text runs to about a thousand pages in most standard-format editions – into a film which lasts a half an hour and in which all the roles are performed by puppets is obviously very great, and all the more so when one considers that, according to the project website (www.classicsinminiature.com), this film, like the others in the series, is aimed at the “educational market (from age 12 through university) and to the general public”, and is “for everyone – young and old, cynical and romantic.” The implication that the creators of the series are conscious of the risks of over-simplification and sentimentalizing – risks which they might afford to incur if young children were, exclusively, their target audience – seems clear. Thanatography: Strategies of representationsof death in Renata Litwinova’s film Rita’s Last Fairy TaleThe aim of the article is the interpretation of Renata Litvinova’s film Rita’s Last Fairy Tale 2012. The author shows that the examples of rite de passage, which are present in the selected work of art, are introduced to neutralize the perception of death. It is done, first of all, due to the strategies of aestheticization and romanticization, which emphasize the conventionality of the world presented. The picture of death proposed by Litvinova is almost entirely devoid of any aspects of physiology. The stylization suggested in the title of the film is realized with the use of elements of retro glamor, dark humor and irony. The process of perception is also focused on the attempt of decoding the film leitmotivs such as the symbolism of the mirror or the ways of thea­tralization of behavior, taking into account some montage solutions.Tanatografia. Strategie reprezentacji śmierci w filmie Renaty Litwinowej Ostatnia bajka RityCelem artykułu jest interpretacja filmu Renaty Litwinowej Ostatnia bajka Rity 2012. Autorka pokazuje, że obecne w dziele rytuały przejścia ukierunkowane są przede wszystkim na osiągnięcie efektu neutralizacji śmierci, między innymi za sprawą wprowadzonych strategii estetyzacji i ro­mantyzacji, podkreślających umowność świata przedstawionego. Obraz śmierci proponowany przez Litwinową jest prawie całkowicie pozbawiony aspektów fizjologii. Zaznaczona w tytule konwencja realizowana jest za pomocą elementów stylu retro glamour, czarnego humoru i ironii. W procesie percepcji filmu podjęto również próbę odkodowania obecnych w nim lejtmoty­wów, w tym symboliki lustra, sposobów teatralizacji i rytualizacji zachowań, z uwzględnieniem wybranych rozwiązań montażowych.

Natural and accelerated weatherings were studied to inspect the effect of antioxidants to protect low-density polyethylene (LDPE) films for commercial application as greenhouse covering materials in Saudi Arabia. In this investigation, six different formulations of LDPE film with incorporation of antioxidants were prepared and compared with neat LDPE. The samples were extruded and blown into a film using twin-screw extruder and film blowing machine. The LDPE films were exposed for outdoor weathering in Riyadh during the period of 90 days (mid of June to mid of September) while the accelerated tests were performed by Weather-Ometer. The film having 0.2 wt% Alkanox-240 (AN-0.2) stabilizers showed the highest tensile strength among all samples during natural and 100-hour accelerated weathering (10.9 MPa and 21.8 MPa, resp.). The best elongation at break was witnessed in 0.2% Good-rite antioxidants which were 64% in natural weathering; however, 0.5% Good-rite antioxidants showed 232% in accelerated weathering. The film having 0.5 wt% Good-rite 3114 (GR-0.5) antioxidant could withstand 70 days during natural exposure before the tensile strength values were reduced to 2/3rd of the initial. The present study suggested that the addition of antioxidants Good-rite, Anox, and Alkanox can improve the mechanical strength, film’s life, effectiveness, and stability and they are suitable to be incorporated in LDPE for commercial greenhouse films.

Girl protagonists in rite of passage films regularly come to be burdened with a sobering maturity that sees them acquire a dysphoric subjective position under an oppressive patriarchal paradigm. According to Oedipal logics, both genders, in extricating themselves from the imaginary fullness of the maternal bond, come to be subjects of lack, but culturally entrenched patriarchal fictions concur in fostering masculine narcissism at the expense of the feminine. This practice-based research asks how the Oedipal narrative structure, which has defined twentieth- century mainstream cinema, can be re-appropriated and re- imagined for the purpose of writing a screenplay that highlights the girl's active and constructive engagement in the project of selfhood. My reading of seven films, which are all at the low-budget end of the mainstream (studio-financed as well as independent), details parallel structures and discourses within the proposed genre. Victor Turner's rite of passage model is used as a template for understanding rite of passage plot structure and transformative symbolism, while key concepts in Lacanian psychoanalysis serve to throw light on the adolescent girl's psychosexual development. My reading of Girlfight, which follows Luce Irigaray's critique of phallocentrism and concept of intersubjective dialogue, provides a key insight into how the narrative aspects of film can provide a propitious environment for resolving cultural impasse and catalysing understanding and change. I have written my screenplay Lullaby, which accompanies the thesis as Appendix IV, in accordance with my research goals. It serves as a blueprint for a feature film that will hopefully, one day, go into production.

La tesi volge la sua attenzione sul film bulgaro Žalejka (2016) e, a partire da esso, la traduzione dei sottotitoli in italiano e l’analisi dei contenuti, più nello specifico dei riti funerari nelle campagne bulgare. Per la realizzazione di questa lavoro, sono state seguite più fasi: la traduzione dei sottotitoli in italiano dell’intero film, la ricerca della letteratura sul tema e successiva analisi dei materiali, la selezione di alcune scene del film da prendere in esame, l’approfondimento e l’analisi di tali scene, la trascrizione in bulgaro dei dialoghi dei frammenti selezionati e, naturalmente, la verifica e correzione dell’intero testo. L’elaborato è strutturato come segue. Vi è un’introduzione, in cui vengono esposte le ragioni della scelta dell’argomento, presentate le suddette fasi di lavorazione per la stesura, una panoramica generale sul film e la sua realizzazione, i riconoscimenti ottenuti a livello nazionale e internazionale, e infine la sinossi della pellicola. Segue poi il corpo centrale, nel quale vengono presentate tre scene del film, per ognuna delle quali vi è una breve introduzione al contenuto della scena, il testo integrale delle battute in bulgaro con la rispettiva traduzione originale in italiano a fianco, il tutto seguito da una breve analisi a livello contenutistico della scena e dei riti funerari che in essa compaiono. I suddetti riti vengono illustrati con l’aiuto di testi di letteratura scientifica sull’argomento. Infine, nelle conclusioni, vengono illustrate le finalità dell’elaborato e si ripercorrono in maniera coincisa alcuni dei rituali precedentemente affrontati.

Denna undersökning grundar sig på erfarenheter där jag sett att rita är en aktivitet som uppstår spontant i stort sett alla dagar på förskolan och jag anser därav att det är relevant för min profession att undersöka denna aktivitet närmare. Syftet med undersökningen är att bidra med ökad kunskap om ritandet som spontan aktivitet och jag valde av den orsaken att rikta blicken mot vad, varför och hur barn ritar. För att undersöka aktiviteten ville jag även fånga pedagogers förhållande till- och avsikter med det spontana ritandet. Resultatet av undersökningen berättar att då barnen ritade som del av den fria leken var målet för barnen att rita något föreställande. Resultatet visar även att det finns flera möjliga svar till varför barn ritar. Med hjälp av teorier har jag fått en bild av hur barn ritar. De använder invanda mönster i sitt bildspråk och skapar nya bilder med hjälp av minnesbilder och imitation av andras bilder. För pedagogerna är ordet bearbeta ett ord som används flera gånger om barns bildskapande. Att barn använder ritandet som redskap för att bearbeta intryck eller upplevelser är något jag varken kunnat fastställa eller negligera. Att samtala som komplement till ritandet verkar vara essentiellt samtidigt som motivval inte verkar, för barnen, vara av stor vikt.Analysresultatet har även utvecklats till en gestaltning, en film som visar de slutsatser som dragits.

Esta tese indaga sobre os ritos de morte praticados em Goiás no século XIX. A base documental do trabalho foram os registros de testamentos e de óbitos relativos ao período. Até meados do século a morte ainda carregava várias características que remontam à centúria anterior. Na metade final a sociedade passa por um amplo leque de transformações: as idéias liberais em voga que desejam a separação do Estado da Igreja e/ou mesmo a romanização entabulada pela Igreja querendo se livrar das amarras regalistas; a crescente urbanização e modernização das cidades que provoca um reordenamento nas mesmas, vistas como um lugar de circulação, que juntamente com as doutrinas higienistas que pregam o fim dos enterramentos ad sanctus e sua transferência para fora das cidades como forma de melhorar a saúde pública. No bojo de tais mudanças estão também os ritos mortuários, que abandonam as preocupações com alma e se voltam para as questões materiais, caracterizados também pela secularização dos cemitérios. O rompimento aponta para um novo paradigma: a perda de controle por parte da igreja e das irmandades nos atos relativos à morte. As práticas ensinadas nos manuais de bem morrer de uma morte pública e notória, são substituídas por um ritual restrito à família. Vida e morte vivem tempos novos.

De nos jours en Europe, les nestinari en Bulgarie, les anesténarides du Nord de la Grâce dansent sur les braises, baignés de la même ferveur que celle des pyrobates de l'Espagne septentrionale et des Nyungwes de Tété en Afrique australe : Ce rituel « élémentaire » de marche ou de danse sur le feu a été abordé sous l'angle de ses origines, des mécanismes psychosociologiques, neurophysiologiques patents -mis en oeuvre pour ce qui touche a l' «Incombustibilité» et à l'insensibilisation-, des comportements individuels et collectifs, des évolutions historiques comme des significations sociales. Ce point de vue s'est reposé sur une tradition philosophique zététique & méthodologique liées au champ ethnologique. Il,s'est agi de susciter une « synergie transversale » afin de mettre en cause et impliquer directement le parallélisme des diverses branches des sciences humaines considérant le rituel et le « fait de communication » dans sa globalité, toute en construisant progressivement une réflexion à caractère témoin grâce à l'outil majeur de l'anthropologie visuelle et sonore. Nowadays in Europe, the "Nestinari" from Bulgaria, the "Anestenarides" from Northern Greece dance on burning charcoals, enlightened by the same enthusiasm as the pyrobates from septentrional Spain and the "Nyungwes of Tété" from Southern Africa : its "elementary rite of walking or dancing on fire was discussed through the perspectives of its origins, of its sociopsychological and obviously neurophysiological mechanisms — in connection with the belief of the incombustibility and insensitivity of the human body - , of its individual and collective behaviours , of its historical evolution, as well as its social meanings. This point of view relies on a zetetic methodological and philosophical tradition, related to the ethnological domain. The point was to give rise to a "transverse synergy" in order to directly involve the parallelism of the various branches of the social sciences considering the rite: and the "way of communication" as a whole, while building gradually a conception in a pilot matter thanks to visual anthropology. According to the statistics by National Fire Agency, the death of firemen peaked at 5 persons between 2014~2015; which is higher than 5~6 persons than past decade. The scenario shall be related to the focus on citizens’ rescue and without care of salvation of firefighters from fire during training for them. Reducing the amount of death, the training for self-survival and courses for the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) shall be indispensable. This article applies my training in US Los Angeles Fire Department in 2015, and 2018 Taoyuan City Jingpeng industrial fire as example, together with simulated scenario to access the comparisons among rescue time, manpower and materials required, and criteria by utilizing RIT new and old facilities. Besides, this research adopts experts’ interviews from employees with distinct ages and diverse onsite duty positions as well as real drills based on simulated conditions; however, this paper intends to maximize the efficacy of expense for procurement and replacement. The results indicate that the advantages of new RIT equipment can be ranged from efficiency to manpower consumption comparing to old type; which signifies the inadequacy of national existing RIT equipment as unable to save firemen from trapping scenarios. Thus, RIT equipment should be discussed independently from general fire rescue ones, and RIT team deserves the priority on accessing facilities. Furthermore, RIT equipment should be into the priority of allocation of budget with rescue (positioning for search, moving, air supply) and evacuation (group and personal rescue) as two main projects, and with immediate or annual substitute of rescue facilities for ensuring of onsite fire evacuation of firemen by others or by themselves.

The 1957 screen adaptation of Pal Joey—starring Frank Sinatra as Joey, Rita Hayworth as Vera, and Kim Novak as Linda—redeems Joey. Now a singer rather than a dancer, Joey genuinely falls in love with Linda. In the end Joey gets the girl. The film promotes a set of emerging gender archetypes that defy middle-class, suburban constructions of masculinity and femininity. Joey’s stage-to-screen evolution—from heel to swinging bachelor—is mirrored by Linda’s transformation from stenographer to sex kitten. Both of these archetypes are responses to what cultural theorists have called the postwar “crisis” in masculinity. The character Vera too is altered. As played by Rita Hayworth, she is tamed by Joey. The anxiety over contested gender roles is reflected in the alteration of the original score, which is reworked, repurposed, and in some cases eviscerated in order to promote the ethos of the film.

Abstract Chapter 1 situates Al Jolson’s blackface within a technological revolution. Understanding the impact that the “coming of sound” had on the visual image and its role in offsetting racial caricature from 1927 to 1930—the “pre-Code” era—lays the framework and foundation for future, more discreet iterations of covert minstrelsy that develop in the years following 1930. Jolson’s iconic sound/lip-synchronous performance of “Mammy” in The Jazz Singer (1927) not only transitions the nineteenth-century practice of “blacking up” into the sound era, but it offers blackface, and specifically blackface tied to sound, as the key to national integration. Establishing the sonic guise as motivated by both these early sound-synch experiments and Hollywood’s strong desire to avoid censorship in a rapidly changing industry, I analyze Irving Berlin’s song “Puttin’ on the Ritz” in the 1930 film by the same name as exemplary of the kind of micro-manipulations that would become so popular in future years. This includes the film’s soundtrack as well as small changes Berlin made to the musical compositions and their lyrics. Furthermore, “Puttin’ on the Ritz” has been inaccurately labeled the first “interracial” song and dance to be performed on the silver screen. This chapter examines this misleading label—a kind of affected integration—in combination with Berlin’s unique use of syncopation and lyricism, to show how even in the absence of visible blackface, Hollywood directors engaged in more covert forms of masking, teaching viewers how to see Blackness in a modern, urbanized context.

My study deals with the French-Belgian-Luxembourgish co-production Kirikou and the Sorceress, a film adaptation of a West African folktale. I examine in it the elements that go back to the archaic age and are related to the customs of the archaic age society, they lead us all the way to the initiation ceremonies. I outline the path traveled by the hero, I present the important stations, through witch Kirikou acquires sacred knowledge, faces death, fights against evil, and by reaching these milestones – symbolically – undergoes the temporary initiation rite of adolescence. In the study, following Eliade, I describe the trinity characteristic of puberty initiation rites of archaic societies, as well as its appearance in the film.

This work examines how the natural frequencies and modal damping ratios of a shaft/rotor system are affected by changes in lubricant viscosity and bearing clearance. The analysis considers a uniform elastic shaft with a single rigid rotor mounted away from mid-span, and supported by fully cavitated, π-film, short-length, plain journal bearings. The transverse displacements and cross-sectional rotations are described by Ritz series, and standard fluid film lubrication theory is used to describe the forces generated by the bearings. The clearance and lubricant viscosity are independently adjustable at each bearing. A Campbell diagram, which depicts the imaginary part of the systems eigenvalues as a function of rotation rate, is used to identify critical speeds for the nominal system. With the rotation rate held fixed at a critical value, lubricant viscosity and bearing clearance are allowed to vary, and the fluctuations of natural frequency and modal damping ratio are evaluated.

Smart systems have recently been used for active control of vibration in structural engineering applications. One class of components often used in these systems includes piezoelectric materials, whose two electromechanical direct and converse effects allow them to play both roles of sensors and actuators. This paper presents the analytical and experimental investigations conducted using piezoelectric materials with polymer concrete as elements of intelligent structures. A piezoelectric film (PVDF) was tested as an embedded stress-strain detector in a polymer concrete beam that was dynamically loaded in axial compression and in flexural configurations. The reliability of the stresses detected via PVDF film was compared with the theoretically predicted values. The results from the comparison are promising, even if some improvements must be adopted in order to apply this technique extensively. Two single-sheet PZT actuators were surface-mounted on a simply supported thin polymer concrete beam. When the beam was transversely excited, oscillations were measured, and they approximately matched predictions by a single-mode Rayleigh-Ritz model under the assumption of Bernoulli-Euler strain distribution.

This paper presents a reduced full-system finite element solution of isothermal elastohydrodynamic (EHD) line contact problems. The proposed model is based on a full-system finite element resolution of the EHL equations: Reynolds, linear elasticity and load balance. A reduced model is proposed for the linear elasticity problem. For this, three different techniques are tested: the classical “Modal reduction” and “Ritz-vector” methods and a novel “EHL-basis” method. The reduction order in the first two appears to be insufficient and a large number of degrees of freedom is required in order to attain an acceptable solution. On the other hand, the “EHL-basis” method shows up to be much more efficient, requiring only a few degrees of freedom to compose the elastic deformation of the solid components. In addition, a comparison with the full model shows an order of magnitude cpu time gain with errors of the order of only 1‰ for the central and minimum film thicknesses.

The aerodynamic foil bearing is a special type of air bearing in which the flexible foil structure between rotor and rigid housing supports the rotor bearing system with a greater robustness against thermal distortion and production misalignments. In such bearings, the generation of an aerodynamic pressure in the lubricating film after reaching the lift-off speed prevents the solid contact between rotor and foil structure. Since many static and dynamic properties of air foil bearings strongly depend on the inner contour of the bearing, the idea of an adaptive air foil bearing (AAFB) is developed to optimize the bearing’s performance at different operating points. This paper concentrates on a semi-analytical model based on plate theory using Ritz method for simulating the static shape control of piezoelectrically actuatable supporting segments for an AAFB under different loading conditions. The elastic suspension of the supporting segments and symmetries of the bearing are considered in the modeling. After validation by means of FEM analyses and experimental tests the influence of geometry and material is examined in a parametric study. Later on, the model is used for parameter optimization in order to achieve the most effective shape morphing.

Retention of students from the first to second year of engineering programs has long been recognized as an important and challenging hurdle. The Mechanical Engineering Department at RIT has implemented several changes to its first year programs and student support services during the preceding five years, which have resulted in a significant increase in one-year retention. During the 2005-06 academic year, additional support services were provided to first year learning communities in combination with course offering logistics modifications. Additional focus was placed on building a firm relationship between each student and their faculty adviser. Six initiatives were studied during the 2005-06 academic year, resulting in a projected first year retention rate of 98% at the institution, and 96% retention within the mechanical engineering department.

The paper presents validation of the CORETRAN-01 code thermal–hydraulic module VIPRE02 against experimental data, obtained at experimental facilities at EREC E108 (Russia) and RIT (Sweden). The validation was carried out in order to assess the VIPRE02 code predictions for CHF occurrence and post–CHF heat transfer in 7.0 m long tubes. The lengths of the test sections in the experiments correspond to the heated length of the RBMK reactor fuel assembly. The CHF and post-CHF (transition and film boiling) correlations, included in the standard version of VIPRE02 code package were tested. The validation results as well as VIPRE model and code modification description are the subject of this paper.

Novel carbon materials with nanometer dimensions are of potentially significant importance for a number of advanced technological applications. Currently, considerable interest exists in the possible applications of single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) to proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells. Proposed uses include as anode materials in both hydrogen and direct methanol fuel cells, solid polymer electrolyte additives, active cathode materials and bipolar plate interconnects. One of the desirable attributes afforded by the use of SWNTs in fuel cell applications stems from a combination of their extremely high electrical conductivity and large aspect ratios which results in a low weight percent for the electrical percolation threshold. This conductivity combined with the outstanding catalytic surface area offered by these nanostructured materials makes them a potentially outstanding active material for PEM electrodes. In addition, the high thermal conductivity, enhanced mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of polymer-SWNT composites may play a large role in developing new fuel cell designs such as thin-film microelectronic fuel cells. We will review the current applications involving SWNTs in PEM fuel cells and report on the recent work in the Nanopower Research Lab at RIT and it partners on utilizing high purity SWNT’s in microelectronic fuel cells.

El 30 de noviembre de 2011 el periódico El Mundo publica la noticia: «Así será el nuevo Palacio de Congresos de Valencia» diseñado por Norman Foster. Un escaso texto y un par de imágenes sintéticas (render) ilustran la noticia. Poco interés podría suscitarnos la misma si no rescatamos las imágenes de archivo en torno al Palacio de Congresos de Valencia; desde 1992 —fecha por el que establece el encargo ˈa dedoˈ que la alcaldesa Rita Barberá firmó con Sir Norman Foster— hasta 1998 (seis años más tarde) cuando aparece un amplio reportaje de la inauguración del edificio realizado por José Aleixandre del periódico Levante bajo el titular: «El Rey ve en el palacio de Foster un símbolo de la nueva Valencia». ¿Qué acontecía pues la noticia del periódico El Mundo en el año 2011? La futura ampliación que nunca llegó a ejecutarse y de la que a fecha de hoy, es conocida por todos el final de esta historia. Ahora bien, si la noticia en torno a la ampliación del Palacio de Congresos ha quedado (hoy por hoy) en el deseo que marcó su existencia a través de una imagen (render), este hecho nos puede hacer reflexionar sobre el posible efecto que la aparición de la imagen en los medios pudiera generar con el paso del tiempo. Esta reaparición en formato imagen evoca a la memoria en torno al edificio, pero también imputa en cierto modo a todos los procesos de gestión urbanística que desde los años ´90 hasta la fecha, han acontecido en la ciudad. Hablamos en definitiva de todo aquel pasado que un render (ni siquiera una realidad existente) puede provocar y traer a nuestro presente. Un efecto punctum que llamaría Barthes, o lo que es lo mismo, un cierto movimiento de conciencias y de estados del pasado que vuelven a través de un efecto visual al presente, mediante este render-punctum. Este poder que tiene la imagen en ciertos contextos, de ejercer en sí misma como herramienta de pensamiento, este viaje al pasado en los estados de la ciudad, ayuda a repensarla para mejorarla. De hecho, estos estados de la cuestión, estas escenas fijas sobre las que pensar, tal y como ejercen en la sociología visual, crean un observatorio urbano improvisado, y desde ese mirar prestando atención que tanto demandó Berger, abren reflexiones sobre la ciudad a través de las imágenes. Son muchas las imágenes en la actualidad que generan nostalgia hacia una Valencia que podría haber sido, y no por el deseo de la arquitectura y de la construcción que muestra el render, sino por poner sobre la mesa la importancia de generar un ojo sociológico (Bourdier) urbano que incida directamente sobre las necesidades reales de la ciudad y los ciudadanos. El caso del Palacio de Congresos es tan sólo un ejemplo que se suma a la imagen-falla de la Torre de Comunicaciones no construida de Santiago Calatrava, a la imagen escala 1:1 de la arquitectura del Centro de Investigación Príncipe Felipe —cerrado, y sin presupuesto para la investigación, a la vista aérea de Google Earth que muestra las 170 crestas de hierro del Ágora posadas y abandonadas, hasta los renders de los rascacielos de acceso a la ciudad. El render, la imagen, remueve y provoca el cuestionamiento en la gestión de la ciudad.
