Rice wine is a kind of low alcohol and high nutrition four season drinking wine made from water and glutinous rice. Generally, new rice wine needs to undergo a natural aging process for about 1 year. In order to solve the problems of long natural aging period and poor aging effect of rice wine, a set of rice wine aging device was designed and a comprehensive method was used to age the rice wine. By orthogonal experiments, the optimal aging process parameters were determined, which were temperature 55 °C, aging time 12 days, and hydrogen peroxide addition 4 mL/200 mL. The results show that the content of ethyl acetate and ethyl lactate in rice wine are 0.44 g/L and 0.80 g/L respectively and the content of total acid and total sugar reaches 6.9 g/L and 230.2 g/L respectively. Compared with naturally aged rice wine, it is verified that the effect of artificial aging can achieve the effect of natural aging for one year. This experiment provides a new method for the study of artificial aging of rice wine.

Анотація:
Skin aging is associated with decreased skin firmness and excessive pigmentation, which is caused by the activity of aging enzymes. This process can be prevented with powerful antioxidants from nature, such as ferulic acid which is abundant in rice. This study examines the nutritional content and phytochemicals of Indonesian purple rice and evaluates the bioactivity of ferulic acid as an anti-aging agent. Indonesian purple rice has less fat than black and white rice, more amino acids involved in aging regulation, and a similar phytochemical profile to black and white rice. Indonesian purple rice has a lower concentration of ferulic acid (4.114 ± 0.013 mg/L) than black rice but shows strong reducing power (IC50 9.35 ± 1.95 µg/mL), high anti-tyrosinase (IC50 59.57 ± 3.60 µg/mL), and moderate anti-collagenase activities (IC50 74.18 ± 3.11 µg/mL). This study supports the use of Indonesian purple rice as a promising active ingredient in natural anti-aging cosmetics.

Red rice is a variety of rice that has more nutritious than white or brown rice. It is also a good source of many potent anti-aging phytochemicals. However, the compounds in red rice extract that exhibit skin anti-aging properties have not been investigated. In this study, the main bioactive compounds in red rice extract (RRE) including proanthocyanidin, catechin, hydroxybenzoic acid, vanillic acid and oryzanol were studied in order to determine their anti-skin aging properties. The effects on skin degradation were assessed by inhibitory enzymatic activity against collagenase and matrixmetalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2). The production levels of collagen and hyaluronic acid obtained from human skin fibroblasts were determined by ELISA. Anti-melanogenesis activity of the bioactive compounds were investigated in B16-F10 mouse melanoma cells. The activity of collagenase and MMP-2 was strongly inhibited by proanthocyanidin and catechin, while hydroxybenzoic acid, vanillic acid and oryzanol had no effect. Moreover, proanthocyanindin and catechin significantly induced collagen and hyaluronic acid synthesis in human fibroblast cells. Proanthocyanidin and oryzanol reduced the melanin content in B16-F10 mouse melanoma cells. Proanthocyanidin, but not oryzanol, significantly decreased cellular tyrosinase activity. However, the bioactive compounds obtained from red rice extract had no effect on mushroom tyrosinase activity. In addition, proanthocynidin and catechin, exhibited strong DPPH radical scavenging activity, whereas oryzanol slightly inhibited this action. Taken together, these results suggest that proanthocyanidin, catechin, and oryzanol are the bioactive compounds in red rice that exhibit the greatest levels of anti-skin aging properties.

The main nutrients in rice are starch, protein and lipids, and their contents and physicochemical properties have important effects on rice qualities. The aging process of rice is very complex, which not only changes physical and chemical properties, but also changes its physiological characteristics in rice grain. In this paper, the changes of physicochemical properties of its main nutrients (starch, protein and lipids) during storage were reviewed. At the same time, the effects of rice aging on its quality characters and the mechanism of rice aging were also discussed, which could provide reference for solving the problem of rice quality decline during storage.

Freshly harvested rice grains exhibit poor milling and cooking characteristics and the desirable properties are acquired during the short maturation period (aging). Experiments were conducted with indigenous variety of aromatic rice, Chinikamini, to study the effects of degree of milling (under milled, well milled and over milled) and aging (0 to 180 days) on quality aspects of aromatic paddy and milled rice. With the progress of aging, milling yield remained 72.19% ((+0.5%), while the head rice recovery increased from 66.29% (freshly harvested) up to 68.4 % after 180 days of aging. The kernel elongation ratio and volume expansion ratio increased while solid loss, alkali digestion score and gel consistency values decreased. The amylose content remained constant with aging. but the hot water insoluble fraction of amylose increased. The rate of improvement in the cooking properties was faster during the initial 3 to 4 months of aging, thereafter the rate decreased. The effect of degree cf milling on quality changes during aging was significant, and reflected more in well milled rice than that in under milled rice. The degree of milling more than 10% (over milled) did not influence these results much. Paddy samples behaved distinctly intermediate between under milled and well milled samples. The study concluded that hot water insoluble amylose content may be a major determinant of cooked rice properties as it showed higher correlation coefficient (>0.95). However, kernel elongation ratio may be the next appropriate parameter to be used as an aging index.

In this paper, the rice husk ash and crumb rubber powder were used as a combined modifier for asphalt. The impact of the aging on the physical and rheological properties of crumb rubber powder, rice husk ash, and the combined modified asphalt was studied through the rolling thin film oven (RTFO) simulations. A Fourier-transform infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) test was used to study the aging mechanisms of the combined crumb-rubber-powder- and rice-husk-ash-modified asphalt before and after aging through the changes in functional groups. Impacts of the combined, crumb rubber powder, and rice husk ash modifiers on the anti-aging characteristic of the asphalt binder were analyzed through different aging indices and the variations in intensity of the absorption peaks. According to the combined results, the addition of the combined crumb rubber powder, and rice husk ash could enhance the thermal oxidative aging resistance binder. Moreover, the optimal content of composite modified asphalt was (7% rice husk ash + 10% crumb rubber powder). In addition, the combined modified asphalt binder had all the peaks of neat asphalt, rice-husk-ash-modified asphalt, and crumb-rubber-powder-modified asphalt and no appearance of new peaks. A scanning electron microscope (SEM) test was carried out to observe the microstructure of the combined crumb-rubber-powder- and rice-husk-ash-modified asphalt binders. The obtained result demonstrated that different SEM images showed that the combined crumb rubber powder, and rice husk ash modifiers were uniformly dispersed inside the asphalt binder and consequently leading to format a homogeneous blended binder.

Research on the skin’s maintenance and protection against aging has gradually progressed toward phytocosmetics. This study investigated the in vitro hyaluronidase inhibitory activity of rice protein hydrolysate obtained by using bacterial amylase and protease against skin aging-related enzymes. Here, the molecular weights of rice protein hydrolysates were in the range 5–63 kDa. Every 100 g of a rice protein hydrolysate contains approximately 2960 mg of total amino acid, including essential amino acids (893 mg) and branched-chain amino acids (591 mg). A kinetic study showed that hyaluronidase inhibition by the rice protein hydrolysate occurs through a competitive reaction mechanism. Achieving effective hyaluronidase inhibitory activity, the rice protein hydrolysate had a half maximal inhibitory concentration of 7.61 mg/mL. Because hyaluronidase activity inhibition is crucial for treating skin aging, rice protein hydrolysates should be considered as cosmeceutical ingredients.

Many lncRNAs have been shown to play a vital role in aging processes. However, how lncRNAs regulate seed aging remains unknown. In this study, we performed whole transcriptome strand-specific RNA sequencing of samples from rice embryos, analyzed the differences in expression of rice seed lncRNAs before and after artificial aging treatment (AAT), and systematically screened 6002 rice lncRNAs. During the AAT period, the expression levels of most lncRNAs (454) were downregulated and only four were upregulated among the 458 differentially expressed lncRNAs (DELs). Cis- or trans-regulated target genes of the four upregulated lncRNAs were mainly related to base repair, while 454 downregulated lncRNAs were related to plant–pathogen interaction, plant hormones, energy metabolism, and secondary metabolism. The pathways of DEL target genes were similar with those of differentially expressed mRNAs (DEGs). A competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network composed of 34 lncRNAs, 24 microRNAs (miRNA), and 161 mRNAs was obtained. The cDNA sequence of lncRNA LNC_037529 was obtained by rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE) cloning with a total length of 1325 bp, a conserved 5′ end, and a non-conserved 3′ end. Together, our findings indicate that genome-wide selection for lncRNA downregulation was an important mechanism for rice seed aging. LncRNAs can be used as markers of seed aging in rice. These findings provide a future path to decipher the underlying mechanism associated with lncRNAs in seed aging.

Cette étude vise à développer des capteurs de gaz à haute performance à base d'oxydes métalliques pour la détection à température ambiante de biomarqueurs générés dans le processus de vieillissement du riz. Trois oxydes métalliques ayant des défauts structuraux tels que W18O49, CeO2-x et ZnO/ZnSnO3 ont été préparés avec succès grâce à une stratégie combinant une méthode hydrothermale simple avec différentes modifications de surface, y compris le dopage avec métaux précieux et le conditionnement structurel. La topographie et la composition de phase des oxydes métalliques obtenus ont été étudiées à l'aide de la microscopie électronique à balayage par émission de champ (FE-SEM), de la Diffraction des rayons X (DRX), de la microscopie électronique à transmission à haute résolution (HRTEM) et du spectromètre photoélectronique à rayons X (XPS). Les performances de détection des gaz à température ambiante, notamment la sensibilité, le temps de réponse/récupération, la sélectivité et la stabilité de ces oxydes métalliques dans la détection des biomarqueurs générés lors du vieillissement du riz, ont été étudiées en profondeur afin d'explorer l'influence du dopage en Ru, du post-traitement et du débit d'hydrogène sur les propriétés de détection de gaz, se traduisant par la réduction de la température de fonctionnement et l'amélioration de la sensibilité.La caractérisation du matériau a montré que des oxydes métalliques de morphologie et de structure différentes ont été préparés avec succès par hydrothermie et projection plasma de solution de précurseurs (SPPS). Leur évolution microstructurale est contrôlée avec précision respectivement par l’incorporation de Ru, le recuit sous différentes atmosphères et la régulation du débit d'hydrogène. L'étude des performances de détection de gaz a montré que les oxydes métalliques obtenus présentaient d'excellentes propriétés de détection de gaz à température ambiante pour des biomarqueurs caractéristiques tels que le nonaldéhyde, le Linalol et la 2 - undécanone, incluant une sensibilité élevée, des temps de réponse/récupération rapides et une faible limite de détection. L'amélioration des propriétés de détection de gaz à température ambiante est principalement due à l'effet synergique de leur structure unique et à l'incorporation de défauts, y compris les lacunes en oxygène et les défauts cristallins. De plus, les résultats expérimentaux montrent que le recuit atmosphérique (5%H2+95%Ar) du W18O49 et du CeO2 dopé en Ru permet de différencier le riz Indica du riz Japonic. Alors que ZnO/ZnSnO3, préparé avec un débit d'hydrogène de 3L/min, est exposé aux deux variétés de riz, un comportement de conductivité inverse est observé. Plus important encore, la projection plasma de solution de précurseur (SPPS) se démarque en résolvant les limitations, telles que la croissance lente des particules et l'insuffisance des défauts dans le cristallin, qui existaient dans les méthodes mentionnées ci-dessus (dopage de métaux nobles et post-traitement). Grâce à ses propriétés intrinsèques, le SPPS permet d'introduire efficacement des défauts très concentrés dans les oxydes métalliques, mais aussi de construire des hétérostructures grâce aux différents taux de volatilisation des sources métalliques, en particulier dans la fabrication d'oxydes métalliques ternaires, renforçant conjointement les propriétés de détection de gaz des oxydes métalliques
This study aims to develop high-performance metal oxide-based gas sensors for room-temperature detection of biomarkers in rice aging by incorporating oxygen vacancies. Three metal oxides, namely W18O49, CeO2-x, and ZnO/ZnSnO3 are successfully fabricated through strategies that combined a simple hydrothermal method with different surface modifications including noble metal loading, and structural regulation. The morphologies and phase compositions of the obtained metal oxides are investigated using a field emission-scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscope (XPS). The room-temperature gas-sensing performance, including sensitivity, response/recovery time, selectivity, and stability, of these metal oxides in detecting biomarkers in rice aging, is comprehensively investigated to explore the influence of Ru loading, post-treatment, and hydrogen flow on the enhanced gas-sensing properties, represented by the reduction of working temperature and the improvement of sensitivity. The room-temperature gas-sensing mechanism in the analysis of the characteristic biomarker is proposed. Furthermore, the practicability of the developed gas sensors is verified by two varieties of rice (Japonica rice and Indica rice).Material characterizations reveal that metal oxides with different morphologies and structures are successfully prepared by the hydrothermal and solution precursor plasma spray (SPPS) methods. Their microstructure evolutions are precisely manipulated by Ru incorporation, annealing under different atmospheres, and adjusting the flow of hydrogen, respectively. The gas-sensing performance investigations exhibit that the obtained metal oxides displayed excellent room-temperature gas-sensing properties, including high sensitivity, rapid response/recovery time, and low detection limit, towards the characteristic biomarkers such as nonanal, linalool, and 2-Undecanone. The enhanced room-temperature gas-sensing performance is chiefly due to the synergistic effects of their unique structures, and the incorporation of oxygen vacancies. In addition, the experimental results show that Ru-loaded W18O49 and CeO2-x annealed under the atmosphere (5%H2+95%Ar) may be able to distinguish Indica rice from Japonica rice. Conversely reversal conducting behaviors can be observed when ZnO/ZnSnO3 fabricated with the hydrogen flow of 3 L/min is exposed to two varieties of rice. Most importantly, SPPS stands out in solving the limitations, such as slow particle growth and insufficient oxygen vacancies in crystals, which exists in the above-stated methods (noble metal loading and post-treatment). Because of its intrinsic characteristics, SPPS can effectively incorporate highly concentrated oxygen vacancies into metal oxides, and also construct heterostructures due to the different volatilization rates of metal sources, especially in the fabrication of ternary metal oxides, collectively enhancing the gas-sensing properties of metal oxides

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is associated with substantial healthcare utilization costs, resulting in a public health priority. In this study, the relationship between the demographic characteristics of age, gender, and type of health insurance; the presence of comorbidities of older Puerto Rican residents diagnosed with AD; and their healthcare utilization patterns (i.e., medical office and emergency room visits and hospital admissions) was examined using Andersen’s behavioral model. Data from the 2013 Puerto Rico Health Study was used in this retrospective cohort design study. All AD cases aged ≥ 60 years were extracted using systematic random sampling. One-way ANOVA-WELCH, Mann-Whitney U test, and negative binomial regressions determined if there was a relationship between independent and dependent variables. Results indicated a statistically significant relationship between age, gender, health insurance type, and presence of comorbidities factors and healthcare utilization patterns among older Puerto Ricans with AD. From the results, opportunities were identified for further research and changes in professional practices in order to initiate discussions and action plans to improve services coordination for older Puerto Ricans with AD. Findings might impact social change by inspiring modifications to the public health infrastructure. These modifications may lead to enhanced disease management support, promoted social justice, and increased resources to improve healthcare access and quality of care, and overall enhancement of health outcomes, for Puerto Ricans living with AD.

Over the last two decades, the use of empowerment approaches to help reduce health-related vulnerabilities and violence among female sex workers has increasingly informed global health efforts directed at HIV/STD prevention. The empowerment approach to sex worker health rejects both abolitionist and narrowly conceived clinical approaches in favor of strategies that promote commercial sex as valid work, strengthen sex workers’ agency, reinforce female sexual autonomy, and support rights-based framing. A significant outcome of the empowerment approach to integrating health, social, and legal strategies has been the creation of numerous sex worker associations and NGOs, which advocate for collective mobilization and community-based HIV/STD prevention programs among sex workers. Despite numerous studies examining the efficacy of community empowerment approaches to sex worker health and the creation of civil society organizations to implement such approaches, there has been little theorization about how participation in sex worker NGO-based programming and activism shapes the personal, embodied experiences and subjectivities of sex workers. Similarly, questions of how sex worker associations and NGOs are shaped by the experiences, realities, feelings, and personal opinions of sex workers have received limited attention. Given the morally charged and highly stigmatized environments in which sex workers typically operate, studying how and which sex workers come into contact with these NGOs helps to illuminate how community and kinship relations, and individual and collective aspirations, shape sex work activism and contribute to the making (and unmaking) of related associations and NGOs. Drawing on long-term ethnographic research with female sex workers and sex work activists, this work combines medical anthropological and feminist perspectives to interpret sex worker associations and NGOs as “local moral worlds” that highlight how subjectivities, body, moral experience, kinship, care, and women’s agency relate. From the subjective experiences of older female sex worker/activist informants, I argue that sex worker associations and NGOs are best comprehended not simply as the outcomes of global health efforts to curb the spread of HIV and other STDs, but also as complex social arenas that need to be reconsidered in light of existing relationships between and among sex workers and their families and the state. This argument is informed by my yearlong engagement with Women’s Solidarity House (WSH), a pseudonym for an organized association of active and retired female sex workers in the red-light district of San José, which recently received NGO status from the Costa Rican state. One important dimension of WSH that requires careful consideration is the fact that most of the women who participate in its development and programming are over the age of 40, with an average age of about 52. This fact makes WSH an interesting and important case study, since it caters most especially to female sex workers who are generally outside of the purview of most sex worker empowerment and health-related prevention programs, which are designed and implemented by public health researchers and development specialists. While theories of gender, stigma, and social inequality have increasingly informed medical anthropological efforts to understand how structural factors shape the personal, embodied experiences of sex workers and the distribution of HIV/STDs, there has been very little effort to understand how aging and ageism factor into the making and unmaking of sex worker embodiment and subjectivity and older women sex workers’ risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases and infections. Given that sex work is a profession or income-generating strategy that adult women in various stages of their lives perform, the lack of research and theorization about these aspects of female sex workers’ lives, I suggest, has prevented a broader research and programmatic response both to common risks such as HIV/STDs and violence, and to work-related health problems and occupational conditions that older sex workers may consider more important in their day-to-day lives. My research shows that a “structural approach” to sex work, which highlights the underlying social, historical, political, and economic forces that encourage and foster the economic exploitation, stigmatization, and negative health outcomes of women (and men) who sell sex, would benefit from adding a feminist anthropological perspective on aging. In this view, aging is a critical social structural inequality that society uses to devalue women’s status and which women often experience as stigmatizing and/or shameful. In Costa Rica, where recent reporting has suggested an increase in the number of older women in the local sex industry, studying women’s experiences of and responses to growing old in the sex trade reveals not only the long-term impacts of neoliberal reform polices, but also how gendered discourses about aging, increasing familial caregiving responsibilities, and growing inequality and economic pressure, together, conspire to limit older women sex workers’ employment opportunities and put them at greater risk of violence, discrimination, psychological distress, sexual assault, substance abuse, poverty, and HIV/STDs.

AbstractIn this chapter, we report the case of a co-design project undertaken in the Shimojin district that was severely damaged by the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquakes. We, IDS3, and local residents have not only attempted to recover the aforementioned district from the damages it suffered due to the earthquakes but also unite its entire community, which is currently suffering from population decline and aging. To supplement its local agriculture, we initiated the co-design project as a means to promote rice branding by adding value by utilizing the biodiversity in the district and transforming the district’s rice paddy fields into eco-friendly paddy systems. We were involved with the project since the consensus building phase owing to our co-design experience with regard to restoration planning at disaster restoration sites and knowledge about the district. We primarily conducted our research in three fields: (1) design of the recovery plan of eco-friendly paddy fields and agricultural ditches, (2) consensus formation for rice branding, (3) exploration of eco-friendly farming method suitable for the region under study.

Speculative narratives offer particularly rich and complex explorations of time and aging, exhibiting a tendency to play with 'queer temporalities' and imagine the lifecourse and human chronology in alternative ways. In this article, we employ an ageing studies perspective in our analysis of time, the lifecourse and aging in four visual speculative narratives. We focus on recent film/TV about increased longevity/immortality. "San Junipero" (in TV Series Black Mirror, 2016), Mr Nobody (2009) and In Time (2011) imagine societies in which forms of technologically enabled extended longevity have been achieved. The Age of Adaline (2015), on the other hand, follows the tradition of speculative fiction about exclusive immortality, achieved only by one or a small number of persons. All four texts play with linear and chronological aging and juxtapose youth and age in provocative ways, exploiting the possibilities of the visual mode. In Time and Adaline seem to yearn for normative social order and present extended longevity as the source of unhappiness and social crisis. San Junipero and Mr Nobody, on the other hand, focus on the possibilities of temporal disorder as a way of escaping normative expectations. They draw attention to the constricting nature of normative times and combine utopian and dystopian elements to explore the tension between normative and queer temporal orders.

AbstractWe performed consecutive field trials of rice cultivation for 10 years (2012–2021) to elucidate how to reduce radiocesium absorption by rice and to resume safe rice cultivation in a partially decontaminated paddy soil in the Iitate Village in Fukushima prefecture, Japan. Our previous report (Ii and Tanoi (2016) Consecutive field trials of rice cultivation in partially decontaminated paddy fields to reduce radiocesium absorption in the Iitate village in Fukushima prefecture. In: Nakanishi TM, Tanoi K (eds) Agricultural implications of the Fukushima nuclear accident. Springer, Tokyo, pp 55–76) of the results in 2012 and 2013 showed that K fertilization can reduce the radiocesium level of the brown rice less than the standard for food (100 Bq/kg). This report of the subsequent years (2014–2021) shows more than 80% reduction of 137Cs concentration in the brown rice and straw at KCl fertilized and straw plowed-in paddy soil. The transfer factor of 137Cs from soil to brown rice reduced from 0.0022 in 2015 to 0.0003 in 2019 and that to straw reduced from 0.0262 in 2015 to 0.0028 in 2019, respectively. Exchangeable positive ions of the soil were also analyzed. Multiple regression analyses of all data of transfer factor in 2015–2019 to year (ageing) and exchangeable K ion as variables show that the main causal factor is year (ageing) with some supportive effect of increase of exchangeable K ion. This implicates that radiocesium in soil was gradually transformed to a form more difficult to be absorbed by rice, that is, 137Cs immobilization or fixation on clay minerals by ageing, not only in early years after the accident (2011–2015), but also in later years (2015–2019). This implication was supported by comparative analysis of exchangeable 137Cs of dry soil of 2017, 2018, and 2019 (Ii et al., Radioisotopes 70:63–72, 2021). The results in 2020 and 2021 show those transfer factors have reached at bottom levels. Further this field work also shows the robustness of the rice cultivation that we could harvest rice far below the safety standard, even though the paddy field suffered floods by typhoons in September 2015 and in October 2019.

AbstractIn this chapter, the authors discuss some important aging factors that could increase the likelihood of a stronger sense of coherence (SOC): aging at home, participation, and social support. In his last paper, Aaron Antonovsky (1993) highlighted an example of an intervention among older people, living in their homes, who refused to accept help. He suggested that if researchers had been guided by the salutogenic question of “how to strengthen the comprehensibility, manageability, and meaningfulness of elders,” their intervention research could have been much more sophisticated and rich. The authors are addressing this call. In this chapter, they analyze how social support, active participation, mobility, and other factors can strengthen SOC in old age. They also bring some examples of individual and community programs that are already operating within this salutogenic orientation.

AbstractThis chapter considers pension protection and social services in the post-Soviet space as forms of social policy that can protect older people from risks of social exclusion. We draw on the example of two countries, Russia and Ukraine, which share a common Soviet background. Until relatively recently, both countries held a similar position with regard to the pension protection and social security of old people. However, recent reforms in the area of pensions and social services have generated various possible ways for the development of both countries. In Ukraine, pension reform took place in 2017, and can be described as “softer” in comparison with the Russian version. Ukrainian reform does not involve raising the retirement age, but rather increases the length of service required to retire. Pension reform in Russia has been taking place before our eyes, in 2018–2019. It assumes a sharp rise in the retirement ages for men and women. In addition to addressing pension reform, the chapter considers in more detail social services for older people in Russia and Ukraine. In broad terms, the chapter seeks to answer the following question: How do modern pension reforms and the structure of social services in the post-Soviet space (for example, Russia and Ukraine) affect the social exclusion of older people?

Cast duplex stainless steels (CSS) used for PWR pipes are degraded due to thermal ageing embrittlement during long-term service at 288 °C to 327 °C. Z3CN20-09M Cast duplex Stainless Steels (CSS) made in France for domestic nuclear power plants were thermally aged at 400 °C for 100 h, 300 h, 1000 h, 3000 h and 10000 h. The tensile properties and the impact properties at different thermal aging duration were measured and the effects of the thermal aging time on the microscopic structures and substructures of Z3CN20-09M were respectively investigated by optical microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The results showed that the tensile strengths of Z3CN20-09M CSS increased gradually with the increment of the thermal ageing time, whereas the impact properties decreased with the prolonging of the thermal ageing time. After long thermal ageing time the dislocation configurations were greatly changed in austenite, and there were precipitates along the austenite-ferrite interface. Moreover, the iron-rich α phase and the chromium-rich α phase precipitated in ferrite aged for 10000h by nucleation and growth rather than the spinodal decomposition. All of above revealed that Z3CN20-09M CSS became brittle during thermal ageing.

Recent estimates show that almost 15% of the Jamaican population is 60 years old or more. About 7% of this population need help with at least one activity of daily living. The demand for long-term care services is expected to rise as the countrys population grows older. In a context in which family sizes are shrinking and older adults are experiencing poor health and critical socioeconomic vulnerability, the means to meet care needs privatelyeither by relying on unpaid care, provided by their families or close networks, or by purchasing services in the marketare scarce. The regulation and provision of long-term care services in the country is highly fragmented and focuses mostly on those that are economically and socially vulnerable, as part of poverty-relief programs. Residential care is the main long-term care service available in Jamaica. Public institutions target the poor, while the private sector also offers various levels of institutional care, from residential to nursing care. The nongovernmental sector is also heavily involved in the provision of residential care in Jamaica, especially through churches. All things considered, women in the family are still the main providers of care. The main conclusion of the report is that long-term care in Jamaica is still an unmet need that requires the development of comprehensive policies and programs.

Chronic diseases have risen in prominence in recent years and are now the major cause of morbidity and mortality globally. The rise in rates of obesity and aging populations are two primary drivers of this global trend, which is predicted to continue to rise in the absence of effective interventions. Notably, much of this disease burden is due to individual behaviors such as physical inactivity, tobacco use, poor eating habits, and lack of proper preventive care. The growing field of behavioral economics combines the fields of psychology and economics to present a potentially promising new understanding of the causes for when and why people's short term decisions often undermine their long-term interests, and people's behavior deviates from a fully rational model. The PLAC Network's Pension Indicators are a dataset containing information related to the labor markets and pension systems of the nineteen PLAC Network member countries: Argentina, Bahamas, Barbados, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, and Uruguay. The indicators are divided into five main categories: environment, performance, sustainability, society's preparedness for aging and reform, and pension system design. Each one of these categories are divided into a few subcategories as well. These indicators were constructed with the objective of becoming an important tool for the improvement of the following aspects of pension systems: coverage, sufficiency of benefits, financial sustainability, equity and social solidarity, efficiency, and institutional capacity. An important characteristic of this dataset is the comparability of these indicators since it permits the identification of areas of cooperation and knowledge exchange among countries.
