The idea that Muslim women need to be liberated from religion and tradition has animated feminist support for imperialist projects. The idea that tradition itself is women's oppressor prevents Western feminists from perceiving cultural and religious destruction as potentially harmful. In this article, I make conceptual space for traditionalist feminisms by showing that feminism does not require any particular stance toward tradition as such. What should matter to feminists is whether the content of a given tradition is oppressive—not whether it belongs to a worldview that places a high value on traditional adherence. I show this by arguing that, contra some liberal feminists, opposition to sexist oppression does not entail value for what I call “Enlightenment freedom.” I draw on Islamic feminisms to demonstrate the possibility of opposition to sexist oppression grounded in worldviews that value traditional adherence, and even ones that hold certain traditional dictates to be beyond question.

Abstract. Feminism is alleged to have marginalized and objectified non Western, ethnic, religious, cultural and geographical communities. Women from these marginalized segments are now indigenising the movement to make the cause pluralistic, feminisms—representation of women across the globe. Islamic feminism or/and Muslim feminism, not necessarily advocated by Muslims, is one of the feminist facets that enriches the concept of feminism by bringing to the fore Islam as a faith towards women liberation. This study engages with expression of femaleness, if not feminism, in Sudanese-Scottish fictionist Leila Aboulela’s work— ‘Minaret’. Aboulela’s heroine, Najwa, reinvents herself from liberalism towards Islam. She does not set out to defend Islam from a Western perspective that has come to characterise popular narratives about identity and the clash of cultures in Britain. Instead, she relates to an inside experience of connecting with Islamic network of customs and beliefs for spiritual appease. The key concern of the study is to examine the way this transformation takes place—stimulus and modalities. At times her version of bondage with Islam justifies and reinforces patriarchy rather than combating it. In that, she appears to be standing on the wrong side of notion of gender egalitarianism in Islam. Incongruously, Anwar, the male protagonist emerges as a profeminist portraying liberal feminist values. Observa-se um avanço neoconservador no Brasil e na América Latina, protagonizado pelos segmentos evangélicos, que ameaçam cada vez mais a autonomia feminina. Diante deste cenário de retrocessos políticos e sociais, evangélicas têm formado coletivos feministas. Este trabalho busca investigar a atuação recente das Evangélicas pela Igualdade de Gênero (EIG), com o intuito de refletir sobre a relação entre gênero, religião evangélica e feminismos, consistindo em uma descrição dos materiais divulgados nas páginas oficiais de web da EIG e na realização de uma entrevista com uma de suas fundadoras. O resultado indica a construção de políticas de resistência no interior das igrejas evangélicas, disputando as interpretações bíblicas e sensibilizando mais mulheres sobre seus direitos humanos, além de atuar em rede ocupando espaços acadêmicos, religiosos e públicos na defesa de uma agenda feminista.Palavras-chave: Evangélicas pela Igualdade de Gênero; Coletivos Feministas; Políticas de Resistência; Feminismos; Movimento Feminista. Abstract We can observe neoconservative advances in Brazil and Latin America led by evangelical segments that increasingly threaten women's autonomy. Faced with this scenario of political and social setbacks, evangelicals have formed feminist collectives. This article seeks to investigate the recent role of Evangelicals for Gender Equality (EIG) in order to reflect on the relationship between gender, evangelical religion and feminisms. It consists of a descriptive analysis of the materials posted on the official EIG web pages and an interview with one of its founders. The results indicate that the collective builds resistance policies within evangelical churches, disputing biblical interpretations and sensitizing women about their human rights, in addition to acting in a network occupying academic, religious and public spaces in defense of feminist agendas.Keywords: Evangelicals for Gender Equality; Feminist Collectives; Resistance Policies; Feminisms; Feminist Movement.

This article examines developments in ‘Islamic feminism’, and offers a critique of feminist theories, which construct it as an authentic and indigenous emancipatory alternative to secular feminisms. Focusing on Iranian theocracy, I argue that the Islamization of gender relations has created an oppressive patriarchy that cannot be replaced through legal reforms. While many women in Iran resist this religious and patriarchal regime, and an increasing number of Iranian intellectuals and activists, including Islamists, call for the separation of state and religion, feminists of a cultural relativist and postmodernist persuasion do not acknowledge the failure of the Islamic project. I argue that western feminist theory, in spite of its advances, is in a state of crisis since (a) it is challenged by the continuation of patriarchal domination in the West in the wake of legal equality between genders, (b) suspicious of the universality of patriarchy, it overlooks oppressive gender relations in non-western societies and (c) rejecting Eurocentrism and racism, it endorses the fragmentation of women of the world into religious, national, ethnic, racial and cultural entities with particularist agendas.

Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate Brazilian legislation, Dworkin's studies and feminist critical theory regarding abortion with the aim of understanding how feminisms can generate criticism of Brazilian legal regulation and Dworkin's conclusions on the topic. Theoretical Framework: In this topic, the main concepts and theories that underpin the research are presented. Feminist critical theories and Dworkinian theory stand out, providing a solid basis for understanding the context of the investigation. Method: The methodology adopted for this research comprises the hypothetical-deductive method and data collection was carried out through bibliographical documentary research, notably from research sources consisting of scientific articles, books, periodicals and collections. Results and Discussion: The results obtained revealed that (i) different feminisms contribute to confronting sexist oppression; (ii) by guaranteeing the material equality of people, the Federal Constitution is feminist and the acts of the three Powers should be revised accordingly; (iii) the decriminalization of abortion in the first trimester of pregnancy will be decided by the Federal Supreme Court in ADPF 442, but there is a favorable understanding in HC 124/306; (iv) Dworkin's interpretive theory proposes Law as integrity and analyzes abortion from the American context, when the Supreme Court presented a permissive precedent; (v) Dworkin understood abortion as a collective issue because it involves collective values ​​and the intrinsic good of life, which is of state interest, which would justify the State demanding certain responsibilities via regulation; (vi) Dworkin criticizes the author of radical feminism and cites the author of femininity feminism, which is widely criticized for the idealization of motherhood and for enabling sexist aspects; (vii) for the Law, abortion is not a religious, moral or ethical discussion, it does not require consideration between the community's religious rights and other rights, but it is a choice of the pregnant woman and its regulation depends on scientific medical criteria. In the discussion section, these results are contextualized in light of the theoretical framework, highlighting the implications and relationships identified. Possible discrepancies and limitations of the study are also considered in this section. Research Implications: The practical and theoretical implications of this research are discussed, providing insights into how the results can be applied or influence practices in the field of criminal law. These implications could include the (de)criminalization of abortion. Originality/Value: This study contributes to the literature by approaching a critical view of abortion for Dworkinian theory from feminisms. The relevance and value of this research are evidenced by its questioning of some Dworkinian moral assumptions about abortion.

Ces vingt dernières années, des associations, collectifs et lieux de culte musulmans revendiquant leur accueil des minorités sexuelles et de genre ont vu le jour en Europe. Les activités de ces groupes se sont spécialisées au fur et à mesure des années : les associations musulmanes LGBT+ proposent ainsi des activités pensées spécifiquement pour ce public, tandis que des mosquées inclusives revendiquent un accueil plus large de croyants et croyantes, ce qui inclus mais ne se limite pas aux minorités sexuelles et de genre. Cependant, ces groupes ont connu une évolution très différente en France et au Royaume-Uni. Les associations britanniques se sont multipliées et ont fortement développé leurs activités, que celles-ci soient séculières ou religieuses. En revanche, toute référence directe à l’islam au sein d’associations LGBT+ françaises a complètement disparu au cours des années 2010. Cette thèse s'intéresse à l’évolution de ces sociabilités inclusives musulmanes à travers le temps, à leurs ancrages sociaux et politiques, tout en interrogeant cette différence marquée d’un côté à l’autre de la Manche. Elle part de l’hypothèse que des conceptions différenciées de la citoyenneté, des modalités d’appartenance et de participation à la communauté de citoyens, peuvent en partie expliquer une telle asymétrie entre les deux contextes nationaux. Une enquête ethnographique, menée entre 2018 et 2022 dans les deux pays, a permis à la fois de confirmer et de nuancer cette hypothèse. L’enquête est composée d’entretiens avec divers membres de ces groupes, de périodes d’observation participante et de l’analyse d’archives associatives. Elle a mis à jour l’importance des bifurcations au cours des trajectoires biographiques des membres, autant que les conflits internes concernant la cause défendue et le sens donné à l’identité musulmane. L’enquête montre à quel point les attentes des institutions publiques, le rapport que celles-ci nourrissent vis-à-vis des religions en général et de l’islam en particulier, jouent un rôle important pour légitimer une cause et obtenir des ressources pour la défendre. La thèse explore ainsi, à travers des descriptions ethnographiques denses, un ensemble pluriel d’initiatives nourries par une partie de la population musulmane jeune et connaissant généralement une mobilité sociale ascendante, proche pour ne pas dire pleinement ancrée au sein des franges intellectuelles des classes supérieures. Elle considère les différents arbitrages pratiques et idéologiques que le maintien du travail associatif rend nécessaires, mettant parfois à mal la volonté d’accueil inconditionnel. Par ailleurs, cette étude montre qu’une sécularisation interne n’est pas nécessairement subie mais peut au contraire être tout à fait choisie par les croyants et croyantes. Il faut, dès lors, distinguer sécularisation et neutralité religieuse. Dans son examen des sociabilités inclusives musulmanes, cette thèse porte une attention particulière à l’articulation entre sphère religieuse et d’autres sphères d’activités sociales. Au sein des mosquées inclusives, le travail sur la normativité religieuse vient ainsi accompagner les engagements professionnels et associatifs de divers membres : militantisme politique, entreprenariat sociale, recherche scientifique. La volonté de faire émerger une religion valorisant l’autonomie individuelle des croyants et croyantes, éloignée de la domination masculine et de l’hétérosexualité obligatoire, s’accompagne d’un souci de préservation des liens familiaux et de la volonté de faire émerger de nouvelles formes de solidarités
Over the last twenty years, several Muslim organisations, collectives and places of worship have emerged in Europe, explicitly welcoming gender and sexual minorities. These groups have progressively adapted and specialised their activities: Muslim LGBT+ organisations offer activities specifically for this audience, while inclusive mosques seek to welcome all worshipers, including but not limited to gender and sexual minorities. However, these groups have not evolved in a similar way between France and the United Kingdom. British organisations have multiplied and developed activities, both religious and secular. Meanwhile, any direct reference to Islam within French LGBT+ organisations has completely disappeared during the 2010s. This thesis explores the evolution of Muslim inclusive sociability over time, the various social and political positions of these groups, while questioning this marked difference between France and the UK. Its main hypothesis is that different understandings of citizenship, and of what it means to belong and participate in the citizenry, may partly explain this asymmetrical development of the charity sector dedicated to LGBT+ Muslims. Ethnographic research conducted in both countries between 2018 and 2022 has confirmed but also nuanced this hypothesis. This research consists of individual interviews with various members of these groups, periods of participant observation and analysis of archival material. It emphasises the importance of the volunteers’ life trajectories, as well as the role of internal debates surrounding how these groups define the political cause they defend and what the Muslim identity means to them. This study also shows how public institutions’ expectations, their views on religion in general and Islam in particular, plays a crucial role in whether or not Muslim groups are seen as beneficial to society and are able to secure the resources to do so. This thesis thus explores, through thick ethnographic descriptions, various initiatives carried by young Muslims, who generally experience an upward social mobility and are close to, when not completely part of, the intellectual upper classes. The decisions and compromises necessary to sustain charitable activities sometimes weaken the ideal of unconditional inclusivity. This study also shows that a secularisation process within religious organisations can be consciously chosen by believers rather than endured. In this respect, secularisation and religious neutrality need to be distinguished. In its analysis of Muslim inclusive sociability, this thesis pays particular attention to the relationship between religion and other spheres of social activity. In inclusive mosques, working on religious normativity fall in line with other professional and voluntary engagements: political activism, social entrepreneurship, scientific research. An understanding of religion that strongly values the individual autonomy of believers, against patriarchy and mandatory heterosexuality, comes with the will to preserve family relationships and form new solidarities to care for fellow Muslims

This thesis examines the discursive position of 'goddess feminism', in relation to some of the difference- and eco feminist positions from the1960s and until today. In focus are the texts of the two goddess feminists, Monica Sjöö and Starhawk. The thesis contributes to a historiographical (re)situating of their political and religious narratives. It also contributes to an elaborated understanding of these goddess feminists and the goddess feminist discourse they are part of. The tentative feminist figuration 'the goddess identified feminist’ is articulated as a tool to discuss the religious and political discourse of goddess feminists as part of contemporary feminist and environmental political conversations and practices. Donna Haraway’s and Karen Barad’s post humanist theoretical interventions are used to explore and discuss the affinities between goddess feminists (re)negotiation of the subject/s 'goddess/nature/human' – and the (re)negotiation of 'nature/human’ made by new materialist/post humanist difference- and eco feminists of the 2000s. Rosi Braidotti’s writings on sexual difference, becoming and feminist figurations further informs the conclusions drawn in the thesis. Drawing on the methodological approaches of Clare Hemmings and Mieke Bal in the analysis of story-telling and subject construction, a contribution is also made, to the understanding of how story-telling as part of a discourse, produces meaning and asymmetric subject relations. In particular the thesis shows how a compassionate feminist storytelling involuntarily produces subject positions through, essentialist dualisms, hierarchical ordering and othering. In parallel, the thesis also discusses alternative narrative strategies that focus on both the discursive boarders and affinities.

Magdalena Raivios doktorsavhandling omförhandlar historien om ’gudinne-feminism’. Den synliggör även innehållet i Monica Sjöös och Starhawks berättelser om samhället, gudinnan/naturen/människan, framtiden och revolu-tionen. Här visas hur problematiska generaliseringar och uppdelningar i ”vi” och ”de andra” skapas i berättandet – men att Sjöö och Starhawk även vidgar och omförhandlar innebörden av begrepp som ’kvinna’ och ’natur’. En feministisk figuration kallad ’den gudinneidentifierade feministen’ används som tentativ utgångspunkt för nutida samtal om feministiska och miljöpolitiska visioner och för-ändringsstrategier. Avhandlingens resultat styrker tidigare forskning som visat att ett ”feministiskt medkännande berättande” – trots sin välmenta ambition – ofrivilligt medverkar i skapandet av diskursiva gränser, hierarkier och generaliseringar. Som ett teoretiskt bidrag, formuleras och diskuteras här några skillnadsfeministiska ansatser till alternativa berättandestrategier.

Women religious congregations experience a re-composition in the context of the contemporary modernity, establishing new sociable links between the individual and the forms of life and common action. This re-composition process is introduced due to the emergence of the individualism exists in the Women Religious Life. Institutional mechanisms lose legitimation power on the members while these enlarge the margin of freedom and autonomy. This context allows to build more equalitarian relationships, opens space for the difference and the plurality where women are more attentive to their subjectivity and needs. The relationships are elaborated from the individual experience and the subjects of the group who interact to each other, so as to broaden the society to form a sense and action. A dialectic accompanies this process in formation and the constant effort makes the building up of communities possible who try to establish a balance between the individual accomplishment and the common commitment through co-operation, dialogue and by overcoming of conflicts. This work discourses by the relationships that establishes between individual and community in areas of power, action and daily religious living
Congregações religiosas femininas experimentam uma recomposição no contexto da modernidade contemporânea mediante a emergência do individualismo. Estabelece-se novas teias de sociabilidade entre o indivíduo e as formas de vida e de ação comuns. Mecanismos institucionais perdem poder de legitimação sobre os membros enquanto estes ampliam a margem de liberdade e autonomia. This paper is my own unique feminist analysis of certain apocryphal texts. Though the texts I use have common themes, they are divided into what I consider the three most societally important aspects of an ancient woman’s identity: virgin, mother, and whore. The Acts of Thecla and The Acts of Xanthippe and Polyxena deal with virginity. II Maccabees, The Martyrdom of Perpetua and Felicitas, and select chapters of Augustine’s Confessions represent motherhood. Finally, the hagiographies Life of Pelagia and Life of Mary navigate through the mire of sexualities that deviate from norms.

This research study investigates self-identified feminist social workers??? conceptualizations of spirituality, how spirituality influences their practices, and their ideas about the effects of spiritually influenced practice. There is increasing interest in exploring and considering spirituality across social work approaches, accompanied by a strong demand for empirical research and the development of knowledge in this area. The past few years in particular have witnessed an expanding social work literature that discusses the incorporation of spirituality into practice. In this thesis spirituality refers to a complex construct that can be deeply personal and/or communal, and that can encompass a sense of connection with something bigger that transcends ordinary life experience. In order to examine spirituality in the context of feminist social work practice, the goals of this study needed to be exploratory and demanded the use of a qualitative methodology. In-depth individual interviews were conducted with twenty experienced direct practice social workers. Grounded theory analysis of the interview data uncovered surprising and significant convergences amongst research participants??? beliefs, values and practices. These unexpected commonalities invited a further analysis of the data that produced a set of practice principles. These practice principles reflected the participants??? understandings of spirituality and basic values, their ideas about processes of spiritual development and beliefs about the spiritual essence of human life, and their spiritually influenced practice methods and relationships. The process of developing practice principles included further data collection through the written feedback of participants and the use of three focus groups. This second round of data collection and analysis extended and refined the practice principles. The practice principles are particularly relevant for social work because they are based in the participants??? collective practice wisdom and represent an important step towards helping to legitimize spiritual knowledge. The practice principles also have important implications for social work practice, education and research in that they can promote discussions about spirituality, guide practice, provide a base for the future development of spiritually influenced models and frameworks, and direct curriculum development.

The purpose of this article is to analyze the link between the political situation in France during the 3rd Republic (1870-1914) and the progressive marginalization that the pedagogical religious congregations have suffered and that eventually led to their emigration to Brazil, from the 19th century on. My intention is to study not only the historical context, but also the sociological, cultural and political background in France in that period, that drove France to secularization, as a result of the Jules Ferry Laws in 1880. It’s also my intention to highlight the dissolution of religious schools in France and, on the other hand, the possibility of emigration, which consequently brought educational and cultural evolution to the feminine youth in Brazil during the Imperial and Republican periods. Finally, I’ve focused my research in the particular case of the congregation Our Lady of Sion as a paradigmatic example of the sister’s congregations that left France during that period and founded colleges in many cities in the southeast region of Brazil. This analysis shows the pioneering spirit of women from those important missionary congregations
Este trabalho tem por objeto o estudo da correlação entre a situação política da França da Terceira República (1870-1914) e a marginalização das congregações religiosas de ensino, como sendo um fator fundamental para a emigração das religiosas francesas para o Brasil, a partir dos meados do século XIX. Trata-se da investigação do contexto sócio-cultural e político desse período na França, da análise das diversas escolhas das religiosas francesas frente à proibição da atividade pedagógica, como decorrência da aplicação das leis de laicização, a partir das Leis Jules Ferry de 1880. Destaca-se então, num segundo nível de análise, a investigação das escolhas entre o fechamento das escolas, da secularização, ou volta à vida civil, ou então da possibilidade do exílio. A questão do exílio foi salientada, na medida em que, essa opção foi responsável pelas conseqüências mais significativas sobre evolução educacional e cultural da juventude feminina no final do Império e início da República no Brasil. Em um terceiro e último nível de análise, o trabalho concentra-se num estudo da Congregação Notre Dame deSion, como sendo representativa dessas congregações religiosas femininas francesas que para cá vieram e em particular na trajetória histórica do Colégio Sion, tanto na França, quanto em várias cidades do sudeste brasileiro, a partir de 1888. Essa análise evidencia o pioneirismo dessas congregações missionárias e o papel pioneiro das mulheres de vida consagrada

AbstractThis volume represents a cross-disciplinary effort to understand transnational feminist struggles for reproductive justice. We use the concept of transnational feminism to grasp the emergence of a historical subject—feminism—that despite its heterogeneity constitutes a central voice in gendering democracy and engendering citizenship. We use the concept of reproductive justice to underline an understanding of struggles for abortion rights that expand and challenge liberal feminist notions of women’s choice. Finally, we explore the counter-movements and strategies to restrict access to abortion and suppress reproductive justice: specifically, the establishment of religious fundamentalist, right-wing and neofascist coalitions threatening women’s and sexual minorities’ rights worldwide.

The presentation examines the return of the religion of the Goddess (in Western cultures) as one of the most unexpected developments of the late twentieth century. Contemporary awareness and attention to gender difference theory have opened up new dimensions for spiritual expressions and spiritual practises, encouraging the development of new forms of female spirituality and the formation of new religious representations from a feminine perspective. Traditional forms of spirituality are clearly dualistic at their core, with the material world, physicality, and femininity on one side and transcendence, spirituality, and masculinity on the other. However, the tendency of modern forms of spirituality is to seek the sacred through and in solidarity, interdependence and holistic integrity. From this perspective, the Goddess movement, the revival of lost women’s folk religiosity and female pagan cults, thealogy and various other movements of women’s spirituality are analysed as a tool for reconstructing the past from a feminist perspective and in the process of transforming collective memory and current religious conceptualization. For the symbols and rituals of the Goddess religions bring the paradigm of the deep interconnectedness of all people and all beings in the web of life.

Motivated by social inclusion, lesbian and gay communities have long attempted to negotiate languages and connected discourses. Social ascriptions act to oppress these communities, thus grounding Cameron’s (1985) Feminism and Linguistic theory. This practice of language negotiation significantly intensifies in regions where religious piety (Hinduism, Christianity, Buddhism, Islam) interacts with rigid social structure (Confucianism, Interdependency), mediating social and cultural positioning. Consequently, members of LG communities build linguistic affordances, thus (re)positioning selves so to negotiate ascribed identities and marginalizations. Paradoxically, these communities model discourses and dynamics of larger sociocultural networks, so as to contest marginalizations, thus repositioning self and other. Through a comparative framework, the current study employs ethnography, as well as conversation and discourse analyses, of LG communities, to explore ways in which these communities in Seoul (Seoul) develop and employ adroit language practices to struggle within social spaces, and to contest positivist ascriptions.

The musical neo-matriarchy is linked to the growing popularity of Neo-Paganism. This pseudo-religious scene is based on romantic heritage, real or invented folk traditions and more or less serious historical, theological and anthropological studies of neo-matriarchy. In the focus of the scene stands the veneration of the Great Goddess and its worshipers are exclusively women. The main ideas of this eco-feminist movement are being conveyed also through (popular) music. My contribution encompasses the origins of the musical neo-matriarchy, the mythology it is based on, the message of the songs for the Great Goddess, the musical characteristics of the material collected, the use of typical instruments, and the dissemination of (musical) knowledge as the rather ‘modern’ way of distribution and consumption of the allegedly ‘archaic’ issues.

Patriarchal laws of a country subject women to various degrees of oppression owing to socially constructed institutions. Sri Lankan women continue to struggle with socio-economic, political, and cultural issues that marginalise them, as different social structures, classes, castes, customs, religions and societal behaviours influence, control and suppress them. In this background, the Sri Lankan judicial thinking is dominated by the sameness approach to equality that ensures ‘gender neutral’ laws. And feminists argue that this ‘neutrality’, is simply a male-standard. In this explanatory investigation, this paper questions this ‘male-standard’ and ‘asks the woman question’ to provide insight to the question; Does Sri Lankan Law serve as a Subversive Site for Women? Through this inquiry, it deduces that, taking a difference approach to achieve substantive equality by understanding positionalities and intersectionalities of women in patriarchal societies shall inhibit the contribution of a country’s laws to create a subversive site for its women.

This article delves into the multifaceted perspectives on polygamy, specifically focusing on why a woman might opt to become a co-wife. The study, conducted in a private Facebook group for women who are part of or interested in polygamous relationships, unveils that societal norms, religious convictions, and individual situations greatly shape the views on polygamy. Despite certain muslim feminist groups advocating for the restriction of polygamy to specific scenarios, both men and women have their unique interpretations and applications of the principle, often extending beyond the confines of the Qur'anic context. However, these theories don't fully encompass the practical responsibilities and potential hurdles tied to polygamy. The study also exposed that polygamy, commonly perceived from a male-centric viewpoint, could also be interpreted as a woman's right, particularly when she is the instigator of the marriage. In summary, the research provides both theoretical insights and pragmatic implications, allowing us to perceive polygamy not just as a male prerogative but also as a potential social support structure for women.

Foram realizadas entrevistas através do Whatsapp, através das quais coletamos narrativas de cinco mulheres e um homem que fazem parte de dois terreiros de candomblé da cidade. O objetivo da pesquisa foi compreender as relações de gênero, corpo e casa para esses adeptos do candomblé belmontense. Sendo assim, foi analisada a maneira com que o corpo das mulheres é envolvido nas práticas religiosas do candomblé; quais os espaços ocupados por elas e seus pontos de vista a respeito do lugar que ocupam dentro e fora dos terreiros. Como material complementar às entrevistas e à observação empírica, reunimos mitos das três orixás femininas mais cultuadas pelos adeptos, buscando-se investigar como essas narrativas contribuem para entendermos o papel do gênero feminino no candomblé e sua importância na manutenção da ancestralidade afro-brasileira.

The recent women writers from India, Pakistan, SriLanka and Bangladesh exemplify the issue of gendered self-representation and feminist concern. Their works realize not only the diversity of wo-men but the diversity within each woman. They are incorporating their experiences to make a new, empowering image for women, instead of limiting the lives of women to one ideal; they push the ideal towards the full expression of each woman’s potential. Indian land is known for its unity and diversity. It has been a witness to the most horrific as well as terrible atrocities that have ever been committed in the history of humanity. The harrowing situation of women during partition has been quite popular among the literary writers. The present study tries to delineate the wounded souls of women during the partition of India in 1947. It has described the condition of women as delineated by Amrita Pritamin Pinjar and Bapsi Sidhwa in Ice– Candy Man. It will also aim at presenting a comparative study as to how both the writers share different pers-pectives of women during partition in their masterpieces-Pinjar and Ice-Candy-Man respectively. In both the novels we get a clear glim-pse of the atrocities of partition and the ultimate tragedy shattering the lives of women across the boundaries. Both the novelists have described the pangs of women’s suffering in a realistic way. Amrita Pritam has tried to present an Indian identity in her description of Pooro’s journey of transformation from Pooro to Hamida, her loss of identity and agony while on the contrary Bapsi Sidhwa has given her own description through the character of Ayah, who was kidnapped by the Ice-Candy-Man. Though both the novels centre around the theme of partition and the plight of women, their struggle and suffering due to the perpetrators of violence either in the name of culture, religion or societal norms during partition, the writers have tried to analyse the situation in their own way. Of course, in presenting the condition of women during and after the partition both the writers have the same views. However, Sidhwa has delved deeper by depicting the trauma in a more realistic way through her feminist lens. The pre-sent paper intends to present a comparative stance of both the cha-racters –Pooro on the one hand and Ayah on the other in terms of pangs and trauma they suffer in the hands of their near and dear ones against the background of partition.

Анотація:
Entre 2021 y 2022 se instalaron en varios países de América Latina gobiernos progresistas sumados a otros surgidos de elecciones previas. Ello induce a realizar comparaciones con la denominada “marea rosa” de principios de los años 2000, aun a sabiendas de las diferencias existentes con el contexto regional y global actual, y entre los propios gobiernos. En ese marco, en este artículo se analizan algunas de las políticas públicas aplicadas para la igualdad de género por los gobiernos progresistas, su relación con los movimientos feministas y sus demandas, y los principales conflictos entre estos actores. Se discute sobre los posibles avances o retrocesos en las conquistas en los derechos de las mujeres y disidencias, en esta etapa en la que los nuevos actores políticos, con sus alianzas con grupos religiosos y de la sociedad civil, parecen dispuestos a arremeter contra la agenda feminista.
