Background. This study aimed to compare the VDW.ROTATE instruments with the Reciproc Blue instruments in different kinematics in terms of the cyclic fatigue resistance. Methods. Sixty instruments, 40 VDW.ROTATE and 20 Reciproc Blue instruments, were divided into three groups (n=20): VDW.ROTATE was used in both continuous rotation and reciprocation, and Reciproc Blue was used in reciprocation only. The cyclic fatigue resistance test was carried out in an artificial canal (60°, r=3 mm) at an intracanal temperature of 35±2°C until fracture, and the time to fracture was recorded in seconds. The data were analyzed statistically using Kruskal–Wallis and Tamhane’s T2 tests (P<0.05). Results. DAll the reciprocating motion groups resulted in a longer mean duration to failure than the continuous rotation motion group (P<0.05). Conclusion. It was observed that the Reciproc Blue instruments had higher cyclic fatigue resistance than VDW.ROTATE instruments (P<0.05). Recent studies have shown that reciprocal movement increases cyclic fatigue resistance compared to rotational movement. The VDW.ROTATE instrument, which has a similar size, design, and alloy as the Reciproc Blue instrument, can also be used by clinicians in reciprocating motion with endo motors capable of reciprocating in different directions. However, even if the cyclic fatigue resistance increases by using VDW.ROTATE instruments in reciprocation, the cyclic fatigue resistance is lower than Reciproc Blue instruments.

ABSTRACT Aim This study analyzed the effect of the dimensions of the flute and shank in the first 4 mm of instrument tips on the deformation and dimensional changes of reciprocating instruments after root canal shaping (RCS). Materials and methods The reciprocating instruments used were Reciproc® R25, R40, and R50; WaveOne® Small, Primary, and Large; and Unicone® #20, #25, and #40. Scanning electron microscopy images of the first 4 mm of the tip were acquired at 30× magnification before and after simulated curved root canals were shaped. Each instrument was used only once. The images were transferred to the AxioVision® software to measure the flute area (µm2, shank area (µm2), flute length (µm), and crosssectional diameter (µm). Student's t test for paired samples was used to compare differences before and after RCS, and analysis of variance followed by the Tukey test, to compare differences between instruments of similar sizes. The instruments were classified according to deformations after RCS. Results Reciproc® instruments had larger flutes and smaller shanks. The Reciproc® R40 had significant differences in crosssectional diameter at 0.5 mm from the tip. Reciproc® had no plastic deformations. Unicone® #20 instruments had significant differences in cross-sectional diameter at 1.5 and 3.0 mm from the tip, and #25 instruments had differences at 1.5 and 3.0 mm and in length of the second and third flutes. One #20 and three #40 instruments had plastic deformations. The differences in length of the first and fourth flutes of WaveOne® Primary and in cross-sectional diameter at 2.0 mm from the tip of WaveOne® Large were significant. Two of three WaveOne® Large instruments had plastic deformations. Conclusion Reciproc® instruments had greater flute areas and lengths and smaller shanks than Unicone® and WaveOne® instruments of similar sizes. Reciproc® instruments had a greater flute-to-shank ratio. WaveOne® instruments had the lowest flute-to-shank ratio. Unicone® instruments had the most plastic deformations. Instruments with larger flutes and smaller shanks had fewer plastic deformations after curved RCS. Clinical significance The knowledge of mechanical behavior before choosing the endodontic instrument may avoid fracture, regardless of the clinical condition, and it is essential to the success of root canal treatment. Abstract The aim of the present study was to prospectively assess the frequency of teeth in which the Reciproc instruments were able to reach the full working length (WL). This case series study enrolled 277 consecutive teeth requiring primary endodontic treatment performed with the Reciproc system (VDW) without a previous glide path by 3 experienced endodontists. Instruments R25, R40 or R50 were selected, respectively, for narrow, medium and large canals, according to the preoperative radiographs, as per manufacturer recommendation. Canals were instrumented and classified as reaching the full WL (RFWL) and not reaching the full WL (NRFWL), according to the ability of the Reciproc instrument to reach without a glide path the full electronically determined WL. Finally, canals were filled using a single matched cone technique. Pearson's squared-chi test compared the frequency distributions of canals classified as RFWL and NRFWL. From a total pool of 673 root canals, Reciproc instruments reached the FWL in 96.28% of cases and 3 fractures occurred. For narrow canals the percentage of RFWL was 95.37% with 3 fractures. For medium and large canals, the R40 or R50 instruments reached the FWL in 98.51% and 97.62% of the cases respectively, with no fracture. Enlarging of root canals using the Reciproc instruments up to the FWL without a glide path is successful in a great percentage of cases. This case series suggests the possibility of using a single instrument to enlarge the root canal space of teeth by a simpler approach without an a prioriglide path procedure.

Abstract This study evaluated the Reciproc R25 and Pro-R 25 instruments in unused condition, after one and a second use in endodontic retreatment employing a noncontact 3D light interferometer profiler, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and cyclic fatigue tests. Twenty single-root teeth were instrumented with Reciproc R25 and filled with gutta-percha and sealer. A 3D profiler with a 20x objective using the Mx™ software was used to evaluate the cutting blade surfaces of Reciproc R25 and Pro-R 25 (n=5 per group) in unused condition, after the first and second uses in retreatment procedures. After retreatment, SEM was used to evaluate the topographic features of the used instruments. Cyclic fatigue tests were performed to compare new to used instruments. One-way ANOVA followed by Tukey test was used to compare the tested instruments before and after the first and second uses. Student t-test was used to compare the different instruments and for cyclic fatigue evaluation. No significant differences were observed in the cutting blade surfaces of Reciproc and Pro-R before and after one and two uses (p>0.05). Reciproc without use showed higher Sa and Sq when compared to Pro-R without use (p<0.05). No differences were observed between Reciproc and Pro-R after one and two uses (p>0.05). New and unused Reciproc showed longer time to fracture than Pro-R instruments (p<0.05), and only Pro-R showed differences between new and used instruments (p<0.05). Retreatment procedures with Reciproc and Pro-R did not change the surface topography of instruments. Reciproc had greater resistance to cyclic fatigue compared with Pro-R.

Instrument fracture ranks among the most crucial complications during the endodontic treatment of a tooth. In order to better understand the practical limits of the instrument, the relation between the cyclic fatigue resistance and physical properties such as hardness, modulus of elasticity, creep and surface roughness were explored. Cyclic fatigue testing in an artificial root canal at intracanal temperature, nanoindentation and 3D microscopy were used for evaluation of four commonly used thermomechanically treated NiTi endodontic instruments (Unicone Plus 6/025, Unicone 6/025, Reciproc Blue R25 and WaveOne Gold Primary). Cyclic fatigue results were analyzed using the Kruskal–Wallis, Mann–Whitney and Bonferroni corrections. The wear resistance of Unicone 6/025 instruments was significantly lower compared to all other instruments (p < 0.05). WaveOne Gold Primary was significantly less resistant than Unicone Plus 6/025 and Reciproc Blue R25, while the difference between Reciproc Blue R25 and Unicone Plus 6/025 was insignificant (p > 0.05). These results are in correlation with measurements of local mechanical properties (hardness, elastic modulus and their ratios H/E and H3/E2). Even though surface roughness, area of cross-section and shape of instruments are important factors affecting instruments behavior, thermal processing appears to be the most important.

Summary Background/Aim: The aim of the present study was to compare the cyclic fatigue resistance of NiTi files running with reciprocal motion and having different characteristics (RPC Blue, WOG, EndoArt Wise Reciproc Gold, EndoArt Wise Reciproc Blue) at the intracanal temperature (35°C) by using NaOCl irrigation solution. Material and Methods: Totally 60 WaveOne GOLD (Dentsply-Sirona, Ballaigues, Switzerland), Reciproc Blue (VDW, Munich, Germany), EndoArt Wise Reciproc Gold, and EndoArt Wise Blue (Inci Dental Productions Co, Istanbul, Turkey) (n= 15) files were used. Each of the rotary files were tested at the intracanal temperature (35°C) using a dynamic model in a stainless-steel artificial canal with an inner diameter of 1.5 mm, 60° angle of curvature, and 2mm radius of curvature until fracture occurred. The device automatically stopped at the moment of fracture and the number of cycles to the fracture was calculated as per second. The lengths of fractured parts were measured using a digital microcaliper. The One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Tukey’s post-hoc tests were used for intergroup comparisons. Results: In 2 mm Radius of curvature, the EndoArt Wise Reciproc Blue group had a significantly higher time to fracture followed by the EndoArt Wise Reciproc Gold, Resiproc Blue, WaveOne Gold. No significant difference was found between EndoArt Wise Reciproc Gold and Resiproc Blue groups (P>0.05). Among the groups, there was no statistically significant difference in the lengths of fractured parts of the instruments (P> 0.05). Conclusions: EndoArt Wise Reciproc Blue files exhibited significantly higher cyclic fatigue resistance compared with other files tested in a 2-mm radius of curvature and a 60° angle in an artificial canal at the intracanal temperature.

In modern endodontics, nickel-titanium (NiTi) rotary instruments are used on a large scale for root canal shaping. Nevertheless, the separation of an instrument is a serious concern during shaping. The aim of this study is to determine and compare the torsional fracture characteristics of three types of NiTi endodontic instruments, each with different cross-section designs and movements performed during root canal shaping: Endostar E3 (Endostar, Poldent Co. Ltd., Warsaw, Poland); Reciproc R25 (VDW, Munich, Germany); and Protaper Next X2 (Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland). Fifteen instruments are used in this study, divided in three groups (n = 5): Group Endostar, Group Reciproc and Group Protaper. For testing, each instrument is used to shape five simulated root canals, following which its torsional stress to failure is measured. The fracture lengths of all three groups are roughly between 2 and 3 mm from the tip. Higher values of the moment of torsion in fracture, and smaller values of the maximum twisting angle are observed for Group Endostar, as well as closer to circular cross-sections. However, the values of the shear tension are similar for all three groups, because the disadvantage given by the fracture section shape for Groups Reciproc and Protaper is compensated either by size or by intrinsic properties of the instrument material. For the shear tension the Endostar values are insignificantly increased (Kruskal–Wallis test, p = 0.207), and in the case of the maximum twist angle the Protaper values are insignificantly increased (Kruskal–Wallis test, p = 0.287). Because of the instruments shape and conicity, the analysis had to be carried out separately with regard to the length of the fractured tip. Rules-of-thumb are extracted from the study for current practice: if a blockage of the first 2 to 3 mm part of the tip can be anticipated (by the excessive curving of the instrument), the handpiece must be adjusted to torque values that do not exceed 1.5 to 2.5 N · cm for Endostar and 1 to 2 N · cm for Reciproc and Protaper instruments.

Background Since the introduction of nickel–titanium (Ni–Ti) instruments to dentistry, a wide variety of Ni–Ti instruments have become commercially available. These Ni–Ti instruments are expensive, which limits their usage in developing countries and forces practitioners to use instruments repeatedly. Another problem is the possible prion cross-contamination associated with the multiple usage of endodontic instruments. In addition, the use of these instruments requires new skills and experience. In this article, the shaping capacities of two conventional rotary file systems, ProFile 25/0.06 and ProTaper F2, were reviewed and compared with the Reciproc single-file system. Methods A total of 45 simulated canals with 40° curvature, in clear resin blocks, were prepared using conventional rotary systems consisting of ProFile orifice shaping (OS) #3 and final flaring #25/.06, Reciproc R25, and ProTaper shaping file SX and finishing file F2. Pre-and post-instrumentation images were analyzed at ten different levels, using AutoCAD 2007 software. The measurement positions were defined in 1-mm intervals: positions 0–3 established the apical part, positions 4–6 constituted the middle part, and positions 7–10 established the coronal part of the canal. The amount of removed resin, the transportation, instrumentation time, change in working length (WL), instrumentation fractures, and the presence of ledge were evaluated. Data were analyzed using ANOVA, Kruskal–Wallis and independent t-test (p < 0.001). Results ProFile removed the least resin (p < 0.001) and caused less transportation than Reciproc and ProTaper, in total (p < 0.001). ProTaper caused more transportation ProFile and Reciproc in the apical part (p < 0.000). Reciproc caused more transportation than ProTaper and ProFile (p < 0.001), and the transportation tendency toward the inner aspect of the curvature in the middle part. Reciproc caused the less transportation than ProFile and ProTaper in the coronal part. The transportations tended to occur toward the outside of the curvature, except the middle part with Reciproc and at points 5 and 6 with ProTaper. There were no significant differences among the groups in terms of maintaining the original WL. Reciproc was significantly faster than the others group (p < 0.001). Only one instrument fracture (25/0.06 ProFile) was noted. All groups showed one ledge each. Discussion The results of the present study showed that both ProFile 25/06 and ProTaper F2, combined with a file used for coronal enlargement (OS3 and SX), have the potential to create satisfactory canal shape in the curved root canals. Further studies using real human teeth are needed to confirm our results.

Background: this study was conducted to compare the centering ability and canaltransportation of: Protaper, Mtwo, WaveOne, Reciproc in simulated curvedcanals.Materials and methods: Eighty simulated curved canals of 40° curvature weredivided into four groups and prepared to an apical size 25 using a crown-downtechnique for ProTaper instruments and single length technique for Mtwoinstruments and single file technique for WaveOne and Reciproc instruments. Thefollowing parameters were evaluated: outer and inner canal transportation andthe centering ability. The measurements were carried out at five different levels.Pre-and postoperative images of the canals were taken at 40X magnification byaid of stereomicroscope. An assessment of the canals shape was determined usingPhotoshop CS2 and AutoCAD software. The data were analyzed statistically usingANOVA and LSD test.Results: Considering canal transportation, the direction of transportation of rotaryNiTi instruments was usually toward the inner aspect at middle parts of the canaland toward the outer aspect of the curve at the apex of curve and the end ofpreparation. Waveone and Reciproc files were showed a better maintaining itsoriginal curvature with less straightening and transportation especially at the endof preparation of simulated canals. WaveOne and Reciproc instruments obtainedbetter centering ability at all levels especially at the end point of preparationcomparing with Protaper and Mtwo instruments.Conclusions: WaveOne and Reciproc instruments maintained the original curvaturesignificantly better than ProTaper and Mtwo.

Introdução Nos últimos anos, a Endodontia tem sofrido inúmeros avanços e melhorias clínicas que ajudaram a tornar o tratamento Endodôntico cada vez mais viável e eficaz. Uma das áreas onde se tem verificado maior investigação e consequente aparecimento e disponibilização de avanços tecnológicos é a instrumentação dos canais radiculares, tais como instrumentação mecanizada com movimentos reciprocantes e sistemas de lima única. Propomo-nos então com a execução deste trabalho, realizar um levantamento relativo ao sistema Reciproc®, acerca de vários factores, tais como a resistência à fadiga cíclica, resistência à fratura dos instrumentos, extrusão de detritos a nível apical, erros de instrumentação, capacidade de remoção de detritos dos canais e tempo de trabalho do sistema Reciproc, bem como à sua comparação com os sistemas ProTaper e WaveOne. Metodologia Elaboração de uma pesquisa bibliográfica recorrendo às bases de dados: Pubmed, B-On e RCAAP, Scielo, Mesh Database e Science Direct com as seguintes palavras-chave: “Continuous Rotation”, “Reciprocating Motion”, “Single-file”, “Instrumentation”, “ WaveOne”, “ProTaper”, “Reciprocating”, “cyclic fatigue”, “torsional resistance”, “endodontic instruments”, “nickel-titanium”, “canal curvature”, “endodontic treatment” e “rotary systems” Conclusão Com a realização deste trabalho podemos constatar que o sistema Reciproc® se apresenta como uma excelente opção, apresentando os melhores resultados, relativamente à fadiga clinica e resistência à fractura, capacidade de limpeza e redução do tempo de trabalho. Recomendamos a execução de mais estudos sobre o tema aumentando as amostras em estudo e realizando estudos in vitro. Introduction During the last years, Endodontic’s has suffered a huge development and clinical improvements that helped to make the endodontic treatments more viable and effective. One of the areas where there has been more research and consequent appearance and availability of technological advances is the instrumentation of root canals, such as mechanical instrumentation with reciprocating movements and single file systems. We propose with the execution of this work, to perform a survey on the Reciproc® system on various factors, such as resistance to cyclic fatigue, fracture resistance of the instruments, extrusion of debris at the apical level, instrumentation errors, capacity debris removal channels Reciproc system and working time, as well as its comparison with ProTaper and Waveone systems. Methodology Bibliographic research was performed using databases such as Pubmed, B-On, RCAAP, Scielo, Mesh Database and Science Direct with the following key-words: “Continuous Rotation”, “Reciprocating Motion, “Single-file”, “Instrumentation”, “WaceOne”, “ProTaper”, “Reciprocating”, “cyclic fatigue”, “torsional resistance”, endodontic instruments”, “nickel-titanium”, “channel curvature”, “endodontic treatment” and “rotary systems”. Conclusion With this work we conclude that the Reciproc® system is presented as an excellent option, with the best results in relation to clinical fatigue and fracture resistance, cleanability and reduction of working time. We recommend running more studies on the subject by increasing the samples analyzed and performing in vitro studies.

1 Scopo della tesi Lo scopo della tesi è stato quello di valutare se le nuove tendenze in endodonzia avessero delle limitazioni rispetto alle tecniche tradizionali e se rappresentassero sempre la scelta migliore nella pratica clinica. 2 Strumenti Reciproc Efficacia di sagomatura e topografia superficiale di strumenti reciprocanti dopo utilizzi multipli in vitro: Questo studio in vitro ha valutato le alterazioni morfologiche e l’efficacia di strumenti Reciproc R25 dopo diversi utilizzi in vitro. 3 Nuovi modelli di cavità d’accesso in endodonzia 3.1 Influenza della morfologia della cavità d’accesso sulla resistenza a fatica di strumenti endodontici Reciproc blue: accesso conservativo vs. accesso truss. Questo studio ha valutato l’influenza del disegno della cavità di accesso endodontica e della sostanza dentale rimanente sulla resistenza a frattura dei denti trattati endodonticamente. 3.2 Influenza del disegno della cavità di accesso endodontica e della sostanza dentale residua sulla resistenza a frattura di incisivi mascellari trattati endodonticamente e sulla resistenza a fatica di strumenti Reciproc blue: accesso tradizionale vs. accesso conservativo. Lo scopo di questo studio è stato quello di confrontare l’influenza di due differenti disegni di cavità d’accesso sulla resistenza a frattura di denti trattati endodonticamente e sulla resistenza a fatica ciclica degli strumenti endodontici Reciproc blue. 4 Il restauro adesivo post-endodontico 4.1 Forza di adesione immediata e ritardata di un adesivo universale alla dentina profonda intracamerale a seguito di detersione con diversi sistemi di irrigazione canalare: Questo studio ha valutato gli effetti del sistema di irrigazione canalare e del momento del restauro post-endodontico adesivo sulla forza di legame di un adesivo universale alla dentina coronale profonda di denti trattati endodonticamente. 4.2 Resistenza al push-out di perni in fibra cementati fotopolimerizzazione e in autopolimerizzazione, utilizzando nuovi adesivi universali su dentina intraradicolare mordenzata e non mordenzata. Questo studio ha valutato se la modalità di polimerizzazione e la mordenzatura potessero influenzare la resistenza al push-out di perni in fibra cementati utilizzando due adesivi universali. 5 Conclusioni Esiste la possibilità che alcuni strumenti endodontici non siano esenti da difetti di fabbricazione, annullando la precisione dell'operatore durante il loro utilizzo.Dovrebbe essere introdotto un indicatore sulla superficie dello strumento, che rifletta la sua sollecitazione meccanica, permettendo al clinico di valutare se continuare a utilizzarlo o meno. Nella maggior parte dei casi il disegno della cavità di accesso è guidato dalla presenza di carie, vecchi restauri, pertanto, i disegni cavitari eccessivamente contratti non possono essere applicati quasi mai nella pratica clinica, oltre ad essere di difficile esecuzione. L' uso di adesivi universali in modalità self-etch per la cementazione dei perni in fibra rappresenta una valida alternativa all'utilizzo degli adesivi Total-etch, e il protocollo di irrigazione con acido Etidronico (HEDP) risulta semplificato con conseguente riduzione dei tempi operativi senza alterare le relative proprietà antimicrobiche e solventi.

Introdução: Comparação dos diferentes aspetos inerentes à instrumentação mecanizadade três sistemas endodônticos. Objetivos: Avaliar e comparar a resistência à fadiga cíclica e fratura dos instrumentos usados nos sistemas ProTaper, WaveOne e Reciproc, bem como perfurações iatrogénicas, extrusão de detritos a nível apical, desvios e falsos trajetos, capacidade de remoção de detritos dos canais e tempo de trabalho. Metodologia: Realizou-se uma pesquisa bibliográfica recorrendo às bases de dados da Pubmed, B-On e RCAAP com as seguintes palavras-chave: “ WaveOne”, “ProTaper”, “Reciprocating”, “cyclic fatigue”, “torsional resistance”, “endodonticinstruments”, “nickel-titanium”, “canal curvature”, “endodontictreatment” e “rotarysystems”. Resultados: Da análise e estudo dos artigos utilizados nesta dissertação, pode concluir –seque Reciproc apresenta mais vantagens do que os restantes sistemas. O objetivo deste estudo ex vivo foi avaliar o preparo biomecânico e a obturação de canais radiculares ovais utilizando os sistemas ProTaper, WaveOne, Reciproc e Self-Adjusting File. Com esta finalidade avaliou-se: 1) área, perímetro, circularidade, diâmetro maior, diâmetro menor, área de superfície, volume e SMI após o preparo biomecânico, por meio de microtomografia computadorizada (μTC); 2) percentual volumétrico de espaços vazios após a obturação do canal, por meio de μTC; 3) resistência de união (RU) e tipo de falha ocorrida após teste de push-out; e 4) a interface dentina/material obturador em microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV). Cem caninos inferiores humanos foram escaneados no microtomógrafo SkyScan 1174v.2. Após o preparo do terço cervical dos canais, os dentes foram distribuídos em 4 grupos (n=25), de acordo com o sistema usado no preparo biomecânico: ProTaper; WaveOne; Reciproc; Self-Adjusting File (SAF). Após a segunda μTC, 18 espécimes de cada grupo foram redistribuídos em dois grupos (n=9), de acordo com a técnica de obturação: Técnica Modificada da Onda Contínua de Condensação e técnica recomendada pelo fabricante. Os sete espécimes restantes de cada grupo constituíram os grupos controle negativo e positivo. Após a TC dos espécimes obturados, as raízes foram seccionadas transversalmente em fatias de 1 mm de espessura correspondentes às regiões cervical, média e apical. A RU foi avaliada pelo teste de push-out e as falhas após desunião observadas em microscópio digital. Após preparo para MEV, avaliou-se a interface adesiva de forma qualitativa nominal e ordinal pelo estabelecimento e determinação de escores. No conjunto, a análise dos parâmetros avaliados no preparo biomecânico mostraram que as alterações mais significativas ocorreram nos grupos ProTaper e WaveOne. Os resultados no grupo Reciproc ficaram em um nível intermediário, enquanto as menores alterações foram observadas no grupo SAF (ANOVA, p<0,05). Em relação à obturação, a Técnica Modificada da Onda Contínua de Condensação apresentou menor percentual volumétrico de espaços vazios que a técnica recomendada pelo fabricante apenas no terço cervical (Kruskall-Wallis, p<0,05). Após o teste de push-out, a análise das médias indicou RU (MPa) significativamente maior nos espécimes obturados pela técnica do fabricante em comparação com a Técnica Modificada de Onda Contínua de Condensação (teste t para amostras independentes, p<0,05). Em todos os grupos foi verificado maior percentual de falhas adesivas, com predominância de falhas mistas na técnica do fabricante e de falhas adesiva na dentina na Técnica Modificada de Onda Contínua de Condensação. Em MEV, não houve tags na maioria dos espécimes obturados pela Técnica Modificada da Onda Contínua de Condensação e quando presentes, eram pequenos e irregularmente distribuídos. Nos espécimes obturados pela técnica recomendada pelo fabricante observou-se formação de tags longos e bem distribuídos, principalmente no terço apical (teste de Friedman, p<0,05). Concluiu-se que todos os sistemas resultaram em alterações nos parâmetros bidimensionais e tridimensionais do canal após o preparo biomecânico; a técnica recomendada pelo fabricante resultou em maior volume de espaços vazios no terço cervical e maior RU do material obturador do que a Técnica Modificada de Onda Contínua de Condensação. The purpose of this ex vivo study was to evaluate the biomechanical preparation and obturation of root canals using ProTaper, WaveOne, Reciproc and Self-Adjusting File systems. It was evaluated: 1) area, perimeter, roundness, major diameter, minor diameter, surface area, volume and SMI after biomechanical preparation, using microcomputed tomography (μTC), 2) percentage volume of voids in the obturation material by means of μTC, 3) bond strength (BS) and type of failure after the pushout test, and 4) the analysis of the interface dentin / filling material using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). One-hundred human mandibular canines were scanned in the SkyScan 1174v.2 device. After preparing the coronal third of the canals, the teeth were divided into 4 groups (n=25), according to the biomechanical preparation system used: ProTaper, WaveOne, Reciproc, and Self-Adjusting File (SAF). After the second TC, eigthteen specimens of each group were assigned to two groups (n=9), according to the obturation technique: the Modified Continuous Wave of Condensation Technique and the technique recommended by the manufacturer. The remaining seven specimens of each group were used as negative and positive controls. After scanning, the obturated specimens were sectioned perpendicularly to its long axis into 1-mm slice thickness of the coronal, middle and apical thirds. The bond strength (BS) was performed by the push-out test and, after dislodgments, the failures were observed in a digital microscope. The specimens were processed for SEM analysis to observe bonding interface formation and resin tag density using a four-step scale method. Overall, the analysis of the biomechanical parameters showed that the most significant changes in the root canal occurred in the ProTaper group and WaveOne groups. Reciproc results were in an intermediate level and smaller changes were observed in the SAF group (ANOVA, p<0.05). In the coronal third, the Modified Continuous Wave of Condensation Technique showed a lower percentage volume of voids than the technique recommended by the manufacturer (Kruskal-Wallis test, p<0.05). After the push-out test, the analysis indicated the mean BS (MPa) was significantly higher in specimens filled by the manufacturer\'s technical than the Modified Continuous Wave of Condensation Technique (t test for independent samples, p<0.05). The adhesive failures were frequent in all groups. The Modified Continuous Wave of Condensation Technique showed the highest percentage of adhesive failure in dentin while in the technique recommended by the manufacturer, mixed failure was predominant. Overall, in SEM analysis, no tags were observed in most of the specimens filled by the Modified Continuous Wave of Condensation Technique. When present, they were small and irregularly distributed. The specimens filled by the technique recommended by the manufacturer showed long and well-distributed tags, especially in the apical third (Friedman test, p<0.05). It was concluded that all systems promoted root canal changes after the biomechanical preparation, the obturation technique recommended by the manufacturer resulted in a higher volume of voids in the coronal third and BS of the Modified Continuous Wave of Condensation Technique group.

Neste estudo foi testada a hipótese de que instrumentos endodônticos fabricados com a liga de NiTi com tratamento térmico M-Wire são mais resistentes à corrosão em solução de NaOCl. Avaliou-se, por ensaio de polarização potenciodinâmica, a resistência à corrosão de 14 limas de NiTi sem tratamento de superfície (ProTaper® Universal Finishing 2 – F2, n = 7 e Mtwo® 25.07, n = 7) e de 14 limas de NiTi com tratamento de superfície (Reciproc® R25 25.08, n = 7 e Wave- One® Primary 25.08, n = 7), quando imersas em solução irrigante de NaOCl a 5,25%. Em miscroscópio eletrônico de varredura, as micromorfologias das 28 limas testadas foram analisadas antes e após o ensaio eletroquímico. As curvas de polarização anódica foram obtidas com potencial de varredura que iniciou no Ecorr de cada lima, com uma taxa de 0,333 mV/segundos (1,2 V/hora) até os Epite, sendo considerada como faixa passiva, a região onde os valores de potencial tinham densidade de corrente inferior a 10-5 A/cm2. A fim de se comparar as médias dos grupos aos pares foi empregada a prova não paramétrica de Mann-Whitney, utilizando-se o software estatístico SPSS-15 e o nível de significância adotado foi de p < 0,05. As curvas de polarização anódica demonstraram que todas as limas testadas foram passíveis de corrosão na solução de NaOCl a 5,25% (pH = 6,5). Observou-se que, no geral, apenas entre as limas Mtwo® (sem tratamento térmico) e Reciproc® (com tratamento térmico) não houve diferença estatisticamente significante para Epite ECS e Epite-Ecorr (p = 1,000). Ao se comparar, aos pares, as limas sem tratamento térmico (ProTaper® Universal F2 e Mtwo®) com as limas com tratamento térmico (Reciproc® e Wave-One®) não houve diferença estatisticamente significante (Ecorr ECS, p = 1,000; Epite ECS, p = 0,265; Epite-Ecorr, p = 0,265). A lima Reciproc® foi a que se apresentou mais resistente à corrosão e a ProTaper® foi a lima que mais sofreu corrosão na solução testada. Assim, a hipótese inicial de que instrumentos endodônticos fabricados com a liga de NiTi com tratamento térmico MWire são mais resistentes à corrosão em solução de NaOCl foi negada.
This study tested the hypothesis that endodontic instruments manufactured with the NiTi alloy heat treated M-Wire are more resistant to corrosion in NaOCl solution. Was evaluated by potentiodynamic polarization test, the corrosion resistance of NiTi files 14 without surface treatment (Universal ProTaper® Finishing 2 - F2, n = 7 and Mtwo® 25.07, n = 7) and 14 files NiTi with surface treatment (R25 Reciproc® 25.08, n = 7 and Primary Wave-One® 25.08, n = 7), when immersed in irrigating solution of NaOCl 5.25%. In electronic scanning microscopy, the micromorfologies of 28 tested files analyzed before and after the electrochemical test. The anodic polarization curves obtained by scanning the potential Ecorr that initiated in each file with a rate of 0.333 mV/sec (1.2 V/minute) to the Epite, being considered passive track, the region where the values potential had density of less than 10-5 A/cm2 current. In order to compare the averages of the groups in pairs used to non-parametric Mann-Whitney test, using the SPSS-15 statistical software and the significance level was p < 0.05. The anodic polarization curves show that all tested files are liable to the corrosion solution of 5.25% NaOCl (pH = 6.5). It was observed that, in general, only between Mtwo® (without heat treatment) and Reciproc® (heat treated) files there was no statistically significant difference for Epite ECS and Epite- Ecorr (p = 1.000). When comparing in pairs, the files without heat treatment (ProTaper® Universal F2 and Mtwo®) with files with heat treatment (Reciproc® and Wave-One®) there was no statistically significant difference (Ecorr ECS, p = 1.000; Epite ECS, p = 0.265; Epite-Ecorr, p = 0.265). The Reciproc® file introduced more resistant to corrosion and the ProTaper® was the file that suffered most corrosion in the tested solution. Thus, the initial hypothesis that endodontic instruments manufactured with the NiTi heat treated M-Wire are more resistant to corrosion in a solution of NaOCl was refused.

Inquestionavelmente, inovações ocorridas nos últimos anos no preparo do canal radicular revolucionaram o tratamento endodôntico. Dentre elas, destaca-se o tratamento térmico recristalizador da liga de níquel-titânio na confecção de limas endodônticas, o qual aumentou de sobremaneira sua flexibilidade e as capacidades de flexibilidade, torção e resistência à fadiga cíclica flexural quando comparadas às limas de níquel-titânio convencionais fabricadas até então. O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a resistência à fadiga cíclica flexural dos instrumentos de níquel-titânio tratados termicamente Reciproc Blue R25 (VDW) e WaveOne Gold Primary (Dentsply-Maillefer) em um dispositivo desenvolvido especificamente para realizar ensaios flexurais dinâmicos. As limas selecionadas possuíam conicidade 0,08 mm e 0,07 mm respectivamente, com diâmetros de ponta 0,25 mm e foram utilizadas no motor elétrico VDW Silver Reciproc (VDW) em movimento reciprocante específico de cada sistema. Os instrumentos foram divididos em 2 grupos de 15 limas e testados em canais de aço simulados com o ângulo de 60º e raio de curvatura de 5mm. O número de ciclos e o tempo em segundos até a ocorrência de fratura dos instrumentos foram registrados e estatisticamente avaliados. As limas Reciproc Blue R25 apresentaram desempenho significativamente melhor (P<0,05), por meio do maior número de ciclos e de tempo até a fratura quando comparadas com as limas WaveOne Gold. Assim, conclui-se que o sistema Reciproc Blue R25 foi mais seguro quanto à resistência à fadiga flexural no ensaio realizado quando comparado ao sistema WaveOne Gold Primary em movimento reciprocante.
Innovations that have occurred in recent years in the preparation of the root canal have revolutionized endodontic treatment. Among them, the heat treatment of the nickel-titanium alloy in the manufacture of endodontic files, which greatly increased the flexibility, torsional and flexural fatigue resistance capacities when compared to the conventional nickel-titanium files manufactured until then. The present study aimed to evaluate the resistance to flexural cyclic fatigue of thermally treated Reciproc Blue R25 (VDW) and WaveOne Gold Primary (Dentsply-Maillefer) instruments in a device specifically developed to perform dynamic flexural tests. The selected files had taper 0.08 mm and 0.07 mm respectively, with tip diameters of 0.25 mm and were used in the reciprocating movement of each system in the VDW Silver Reciproc (VDW) electric motor. The instruments were divided into 2 groups of 15 files and tested in simulated steel channels with angle of 60º and radius of curvature of 5mm. The number of cycles and the time in seconds until the occurrence of fracture of the instruments were recorded and statistically evaluated. The Reciproc Blue R25 files presented significantly better performance (p <0.05), by the higher number of cycles and time to fracture when compared to WaveOne Gold files. Thus, it was concluded that the Reciproc Blue R25 system was safer than the WaveOne Gold Primary reciprocating system in terms of resistence of flexural fatigue

O presente estudo avaliou a eficáciado instrumento Reciproc#25 em atingir o forame de canais de molares inferiores sem um glide path manual prévio. Para isso, uma amostra geral de 300 molares inferiores foi radiografada e previamente selecionada quanto ao grau de curvatura segundo critério de Schneider sendo divididos em classes I e II. Após a aplicação dos critérios de inclusão e exclusão, uma amostragem total de 502 canais radiculares foi incluída para formar os grupos experimentais: 253 canais no grupo de molares inferiores classe I e 249 no grupo de molares classe II. Todos os canais foram instrumentados diretamente com a lima 25, sem nenhum glide path prévio, seguindo criteriosamente as diretrizes do fabricante. Os dados foram descritos como a frequência da distribuição do número de canais (%) nos quais foi possível chegar ao forame apical sem a necessidade de glide path, assim como o número de fraturas em cada grupo. Os resultados compilados dos 2 grupos experimentais mostraram que em 93,4% do total dos canais instrumentados, o instrumento R25 foi capaz de ir até o forame apical sem a necessidade de glide path. Em 6,4% do total dos canais, o instrumento R25 não chegou até o forame apical e em somente 0,2% dos casos ocorreu fratura da lima (um caso no grupo classe I, enquanto no grupo classe II não houve nenhuma ocorrência de fratura). O teste Qui-quadrado foi realizado para verificar se uma determinada classe de canais encontra-se mais associada ou não a necessidade de glide path quando o sistema Reciproc é usado. No grupo de molares classe II houve maior número de canais (23) que o instrumento R25 não foi capaz de ir até o forame apical do que no grupo de molares classe I (9), sendo essa diferença estatisticamente significante (Qui-quadrado, p=0,020, X2=5,452). Dentro das condições experimentais do presente estudo, pode-se concluir então quea lima R25 mostrou uma alta eficácia em instrumentar toda a extensão dos canais de molares inferiores classe I e II sem a necessidade de glide path prévio. Além disso, o sistema de instrumentação proposto mostrou-se altamente seguro quanto ao índice de fratura.
The aim of the present studywas to evaluate the effectiveness of the Reciproc #25 instrument in reaching the apical foramen of mandibular molars root canals without any manual glide path. For this, a general sample of 300 mandibular molars was radiographed and graded accordantly the degree of curvature (Schneiders criteria) classes I and II. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 502 root canals were included to form the two experimental groups: 253 canals in the class Igroupand 249 in the class II group. All canals were instrumented directly with R25 file, without any manual glide path, carefully following the manufactures guidelines. The pooled results of two experimental groups showed that the R25 instrument was able to reach the apical foramen without glide path in 93.4% of the cases. In 6.4%, the instrument R25 was unable to reach the apical foramen and in only 0.2% of the cases occurredinstrument fracture (one fracture in the class I group andnone in the class II group). The chi-square test was accomplished to verify that a certain class of channels is more associated with or without the need for glide path when the Reciproc system is used. . In the group of class II molar higher number of channels (23) that the instrument was not able to go to the apical foramen than in the molar class I (9), and this difference was statistically significant (Chi-square test, p = 0.020, X2 = 5.452) Within the experimental conditions of this study, it can be concluded that the file R 25 showed to be a highly effective instrument in the instrumentation of the entire length of the canals of mandibular molars class I and II without prior glide path. In addition, the instrumentation system was shown to be highly safe in the rate of fracture.

Dentinal defects are characterized by cracks in the root dentin that can develop into a vertical root fractures (VRF), thus leading to tooth loss. Endodontic procedures may generate these defects and between these steps, the biomechanical preparations with NiTi rotary instruments are associated with the incidence of these amendments dentinal. A new concept in minimally invasive preparation was introduced, along with a new reciprocating movement, using a single instrument for root canal instrumentation. This allows less root dentin is removed, thus avoiding the weakening of tooth structure. The aim of this study was evaluate the incidence of dentinal defects after root canal preparation by three single-file systems. One hundred forty mesial roots of mandibular molars were selected and randomly assigned to 4 groups (n= 35 mesial roots per group). One group was left unprepared as control. In two groups, the root canals were instrumented by using the reciprocating single-file systems WaveOne (Dentsply-Maillefer) and Reciproc (VDW), while other group was prepared with single-file of continuous rotation One Shape (Micro-Mega). The specimens were sectioned in 03, 06 and 09 mm from the apex with a low-speed saw under water cooling (IsoMet 1000 Precision Saw) and observed through a stereomicroscope (Zeiss Stemi SV6, Carl Zeiss) at a magnification of 20×. The pictures were recorded and evaluated by two blinded calibrated observers. The slices were categorized in: 0- No defects; 1- Others defects and 2 vertical root fracture. The dates were statistically analyzed with a significance level set at α = 0.05. The chi-square and Fisher exact tests were used to assess the differences between groups. No defects were observed in control group. All the experimental groups showed dentinal defects. The reciprocating files were associated with more defects than the continuous rotary file and control group (P < 0.05), but no significant difference between them (P = .115). VRF was observed only in the One Shape group. The results of this study suggest that the biomechanical preparation could cause damage in the root dentin and that the continuous rotary has a tendency to result in fewer defects compared to reciprocating files.
Defeitos dentinários são caracterizados por trincas na dentina radicular que podem evoluir para uma Fratura Vertical da Raiz (FVR), levando assim a perda do elemento dentário. O preparo biomecânico com o uso de sistemas rotatórios está associado com a incidência dessas alterações dentinárias. Atualmente, o uso de um único instrumento para a instrumentação dos canais radiculares juntamente com uma cinemática reciprocante tem sido introduzido. Desse modo, o objetivo desse estudo foi avaliar a incidência de defeitos dentinários causado por três sistemas de instrumento único. Cento e quarenta raízes mesiais de molares inferiores foram selecionadas e aleatoriamente divididas em quatro grupos (n= 35 por grupo). Um grupo não sofreu intervenção e serviu como controle. As demais raízes foram preparadas pelos instrumentos reciprocantes WaveOne (Dentsply-Maillefer) e Reciproc (VDW) e por um instrumento de rotação contínua One Shape (Micro-Mega). As raízes foram seccionadas horizontalmente com auxílio de uma máquina de corte de precisão (IsoMet 1000 Precision Saw) em 03, 06 e 09 mm a partir do ápice e observadas em um estereomicroscópio (Zeiss Stemi SV6, Carl Zeiss) sob um aumento de 20×. Imagens das fatias foram gravadas e avaliadas por dois observadores cegos, previamente calibrados. As fatias foram categorizadas em: 0 - Ausência de defeitos; 1- Outros defeitos; 2- Fratura Vertical da Raiz. Os resultados obtidos foram submetidos à análise estatística com nível de significância fixado em α= 0.05. Os testes Qui-quadrado e Exato de Fisher foram utilizados para analisar e comparar as diferenças entre os grupos. O grupo controle não apresentou defeito. Todos os grupos experimentais apresentaram defeitos dentinários e foram diferentes estatisticamente do grupo controle (P < 0.05). Os grupos reciprocantes foram associados à presença de mais defeitos do que o grupo One Shape, mas não houve diferença significante entre eles (P = .115). O grupo One Shape foi o único que apresentou FVR. Os resultados obtidos nesse estudo sugerem que o preparo biomecânico com instrumentos rotatórios e/ou de reciprocidade podem causar danos na dentina radicular.

Objetivo Avaliar a influência da geometria de canais curvos simulados no número de ciclos até a fratura (NCF) de instrumentos Reciproc®. Metodologia Foram confeccionados quatro canais simulados em aço inoxidável com geometrias diferentes variando o comprimento de arco, o raio de curvatura e a posição da curvatura radicular. Uma plataforma de suporte da peça de mão também foi confeccionada em aço inoxidável com o objetivo de coincidir a trajetória vertical do instrumento instalado na peça de mão com o eixo longitudinal da parte reta do canal simulado. Foram selecionados 40 instrumentos R25, alocados por sorteio em 4 grupos (A, B, C e D), de maneira que cada grupo foi instrumentado com 10 amostras cada. Os ensaios de fadiga foram realizados e o tempo decorrido até a visualização da fratura ocorrer foi cronometrado. O número de ciclos até a fratura (NCF) foi obtido pela multiplicação da velocidade de rotação, em segundos, pelo tempo decorrido até a fratura em flexão rotativa da cada instrumento, também em segundos. Os resultados obtidos foram submetidos ao teste estatístico de Mann-Whitney, com 95% de confiança (p≤0,05). Resultados Ao comparar a geometria do Canal A com Canal B o instrumentos R25 obteve um maior número de ciclos até a fratura no canal A. Comparando o Canal A ao Canal C, foi constatado que o instrumento R25 é mais resistente quando utilizado em canais com raios maiores. Ao comparar o Canal A com o Canal D, foi comprovado que, os instrumentos R25 se mostraram mais resistentes quando utilizados em canais com um menor comprimento de arco. Conclusão A intensidade do estresse sobre o instrumento aumenta à medida que o raio da curvatura diminui, ou quando se aumenta o comprimento do arco, como também quando o arco esta localizado na porção coronária do canal.
Aim To evaluate the influence of simulated curved canals geometry in the number of cycles to failure (NCF) of Reciproc® instruments. Methodology Four Stainless steel simulated channels with different geometries were made by varying the arc length, the radius of curvature and the position of the root curvature. A hand piece support platform was also made of stainless steel in order to match the vertical trajectory of the instrument installed in the handpiece to the longitudinal axis of the straight part of the simulated canal. Forty (40) R25 instruments were select, allocated by lot in 4 groups (A, B, C e D) of 10 samples each. The fatigue tests were performed and the time until the fracture could be visualized was chronometrically measured. The number of cycles to fracture (NCF) was obtained by multiplying the rotation speed, in seconds, by the time until fracture of each rotating bending tool, also in seconds. The results were submitted to the statistical Mann-Whitney test, with 95% confidence (p≤0,05). Results By comparing the geometry of the channel A to channel B, R25 instruments obtained a larger number of cycles to fracture comparing the channel A. Comparing Channel A to Channel C, it was found that the R25 instrument is more resistant when used in channels with larger ratius. When comparing Channel A with Channel D, it was proven that the R25 instruments were more resistant when used in channels with a shorter arc length. Conclusions The intensity of stress on the instrument increases as the radius of curvature decreases, as the arc length increases, as well as when the arc is located on the coronal portion of the channel.

Objetivo: comparar in vitro el peso del debris apical extruido, utilizando una técnica manual step back, un sistema rotatorio Protaper® y un reciprocante Reciproc® en premolares de un solo conducto. Materiales y métodos: se realizó un estudio tipo experimental in vitro, para lo cual se necesitó 60 piezas humanas premolares de un solo conducto y similares características, divididas en tres grupos. Según el tipo de instrumentación, los grupo fueron divididos en (n=20) manual Step Back, Protaper® y Reciproc®, respectivamente. Se procedió a instrumentar cada grupo de acuerdo a las instrucciones del fabricante. Independientemente de cada técnica, todos se irrigaron con 1 ml de agua destilada. El peso del debris extruido fue recolectado usando el método de Myers and Montgomery, en 1991. Seguidamente, las muestras se colocaron en la incubadora a 37°C por siete días. Después, el debris fue pesado usando una balanza electrónica con una precisión de < 0.0001 g. Resultados: el Reciproc® produjo menor debris 0.0010 comparado con los otros sistemas. No hubo diferencias estadísticamente significativas al comparar la técnica manual con el Protaper® (p= 0.1939). Al comparar los tres sistemas manual Step Back, Protaper® y Reciproc® se encontraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas (p=0.0001) con respecto a la cantidad de debris extruido. Conclusiones: todas las técnicas de instrumentación producen extrusión del debris. Esta extrusión hacia la región periapical puede causar inflamación y flare up, después del tratamiento de endodoncia, y causar sintomatologías. Sin embargo, dependerá de la cantidad de debris extruida. En el presente estudio el Protaper® extruyó significativamente mayor cantidad de debris apical que la instrumentación con Reciproc® y manual.

We live in a historical period in which it is necessary and urgent to know and relate to stories. Today, the social function of memory is stronger and more evident than ever. The concept of memory, as well as that of recollection, is widely used, but those who resort to it are not always able to fully grasp its meaning. As a matter of fact, the educational function of memory is also expressed through narration. There is no narration and writing of oneself that does not bring within the testimony of a historical time, of a social group and of a precise epoch that reveals unusual nuances and situations, eager to be discovered and to become part of the social heritage. The oral and written narration allows narrators to feel part of a community, to feel in a "warm" place, in a comfortable area and part of a community rich in mutual interest and able to guarantee the rights of all and a reciprocal recognition. Addressing the question of the memory of a community in an era of fragility, of borders, of spaces shared more and more virtually and less physically, means to contrast isolation and the relational distance between people. Life stories provide us with descriptions and observations of how we live in a place, in a territory, in a family, in a school, in a company, in any situation in which human beings have exchanged stories and have learned from each other. The intent to collect the memories of the community, through life stories, autobiographies, arises from the need to look at the traces left by those who preceded us to better understand and face the future, that is, to pay attention to micro-stories. This contribution aims at reflecting on the educational and social value of autobiographies as important instruments for observation, investigation, analysis and restitution of new insights on the community through the educator’s role as a facilitator with autobiographical skills.

Abstract This chapter sets out the nexus between the structure of the private law relationship and reasoning that is appropriate to determinations of liability. It draws out the implications of corrective justice as a structural idea that highlights the correlative normative positions of the plaintiff and defendant as the doer and the sufferer of the same injustice. This structural idea is inconsistent both with the pluralism and with the instrumentalism that have formed the prevailing orthodoxy of private law scholarship in the common law world over the last century or so. Structure signifies the most abstract representation of the parties’ situations relative to each other; the various doctrinal and institutional features of private law are the specific determinations of this abstract structure. When seen as a structural idea, corrective justice has its distinctive and interrelated conceptions of fairness and coherence that emerge out of the correlativity of the parties’ relationship. The character of these conceptions as internal to the parties’ relationship, in turn, leads to a stark contrast with instrumental approaches concerning the treatment of legal concepts, the function of legal norms, the role of law and the source of indeterminacy. The internal understanding offered by corrective justice exhibits intertwined interpretive and normative dimensions.

Many of the environmental changes that threaten biodiversity are negative externalities of agriculture, forestry, industrial production, infrastructural development, and urban growth. Examples include climate change, habitat loss and fragmentation, and the spread of pests and pathogens. Chapter 9 considers the nature of environmental externalities: whether they are public or private, whether unidirectional or reciprocal, and how they relate to wider environmental and socioeconomic conditions. It also considers the instruments available to internalize externalities at different scales, either by confronting those whose actions harm others with the full cost of the actions, or by compensating those whose actions confer benefits on others. Instruments discussed include the assignment of property rights, regulations and legal controls, and economic instruments such as pollution charges or payments for ecosystem services.

In reciprocal learning, learners of different mother tongues are paired so that each can help the other learn their language. Developments in ICT have broadened the possibilities for reciprocal learning, enabling synchronous computer-mediated communication (SCMC). This study focuses on 48 French-speaking learners paired with 48 British students. Each pair worked synchronously and quasi-autonomously on communication activities in a real-time, quasi-face-to-face environment via Skype. This article reports on the pedagogical potential of the above SCMC scheme. The data discussed are drawn from a quantitative study carried out during the scheme. Two instruments were used for data-collection during the investigation: a self-report questionnaire on motivation, and a battery of language tests completed after the SCMC encounters had taken place. The same tests were also taken by a control group (N=48). The findings suggest that SCMC improves oral expression and interactivity in that it helps learners to enhance language confidence and language knowledge gains.

This chapter discusses the items of private international law of foreign judgments covered in part by a number of European regulations and other instruments prior to Exit Day. These are the Brussels I Regulation 44/2001 and the recast Brussels I Regulation 1215/2012; the 1988 Lugano Convention and the 2007 Lugano II Convention; the 1968 Brussels Convention as amended from time to time; and a number of minor Regulations such as the European Enforcement Order Regulation 805/2004. According to the Civil Jurisdiction and Judgments (Amendment) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019, SI 2019 No 479, on Exit Day these instruments are revoked or, in the case of the Conventions given effect by the Civil Jurisdiction and Judgments Act 1982, as amended, repealed. The gap will be filled by the rules of the common law, or by the provisions of a bilateral Convention made under the Foreign Judgements (Reciprocal Enforcement) Act 1933 (or in the case of Cyprus and Malta, presumably by registration under the Administration of Justice Act 1920).

The author began researching trust in the late 1980s. The technology of his practice and research converged in an instrument which indicated the strongest factor being “teacher trust of learners,” and which he sought to enact in practice as “my trust of learners” were quite consistent with each other. This instrument has been used in 16 doctoral dissertations with findings of the strongest factor being “teacher trust of learners,” including a study indicating the technology of his scholarship and practice being congruent. Trust is indicated in some of the general adult education literature, even in a highly unlikely place like a very brutal prison with its culture being transformed into a very humane place. To build upon the trust factor, the growing suggestions of the literature call for more research into the technology and practice of developing and advancing the reciprocal relationship of trust between faculty and learners.

A glance at the recent history of the evolving conceptual relationship between energy and building related disciplines, reveals the coextensive emergence of tools and crisis. Whether economic, environmental, technological or cultural, these conditions are shadowed by an analogous — and exponential — leap in the power of computing along with a reciprocal decline in its cost (Figure1). Moreover, it is not a coincidence that the progressive growth of computation based tools used in the evaluation of interior atmospheres is paralleled by similar historic benchmarks in twentieth-century environmentalism. First adopted in 1965, the ASHRAE Standard 55 (Thermal Environmental Conditions for Human Occupancy), for example, established a metric for indoor thermal comfort, and arrived during an era which saw the first energy crisis and also began to consider the impact of buildings within ecologies.

Abstract The bulk thermal conductivity of thin films having a sub-millimeter thickness, made of composite phase change materials (PCM) and utilized as an emerging thermal interfacial material (TIM) for thermal management of electronics, was determined using the transient plane source (TPS) technique. The actual bulk thermal conductivity of the thin film samples was obtained by deconvoluting the thermal contact resistance (TCR) during the measurement process, according to the linear relationship between the nominal bulk thermal resistance and the thickness. The slope of the correlation curve is the reciprocal of film sample thermal conductivity and the intercept is the overall TCR. For the PCM35 thin film samples (which melt at around 35 °C) having three nominal thicknesses of 271±1 μm, 460±2 μm and 511±2 μm, the corrected results in the solid and liquid state were found to be approximately 0.487 W/m·K and 0.186 W/m·K, respectively. It was shown that the corrected values are greater than the direct readings from the TPS instrument as the latter involves the effect of TCR across multiple interfaces. Often a designer has the problem to apply a suitable system of geometrical and dimensional tolerances to an assembly. The right solution is not unique, in fact it depends on the chosen parameters. If the tolerances have to be optimized, some important parameters have to be taken into account, e.g. the efficiency of each prescription, or if this last is reachable, or it can be verified and how much the realization costs. The authors opinion is that a statistical approach based on the Monte Carlo Method is very useful when the tolerances chains are complex. This paper shows an application of this method in order to verify the functional alignment between two assemblies and a critical analysis of the uncertainty in phase both of the component design and test. This study has been developed thanks to the strict requirements imposed by ESA (European Space Agency) on the components that Thales Alenia Space has to realize within the LISA Pathfinder experiment. The very critical aspect of this work is to reciprocally align two cylindrical elements of two different assemblies. The specifications require 100 μm as maximum linear displacement and 300 μrad as maximum angular displacement. Moreover this prescriptions have to be verified also when the two elements are independently moving. To be able to reach such strict accuracy level the components have been assembled in an ISO 100 class cleanroom and the work space was a 3D Coordinate-Measuring Machine (CMM). The cylindrical elements have a 10 mm diameter, so the value of the measurement uncertainty associated with the alignment check is fundamental. Starting from the different uncertainty sources, the measurability and verifiability of the alignment have been considered and evaluated. The overall uncertainty has been assessed by numerical simulations which have taken into account the dimensional, geometrical and form tolerances as well as the instrumental uncertainty of the 3D CMM. This estimation has been positively validated by a session of repeated measurements. Numerical simulations have also allowed performing a sensitivity analysis, in order to give information about which sources more contribute to the overall uncertainty.

The study was conducted to analyze the dialogue patterns of the physics learning process on static fluid material using Transcript Based Lesson Analysis (TBLA) in SMA Negeri 3 Pontianak. The study uses qualitative research methods in the form of descriptive research. The study used a purposive sampling technique to select the sample so that class XI IPA 5 was chosen with 38 students. The research instrument was an observation sheet (field notes). The technique of data collection was in the form of documentation and observation. The first data analysis was interpreting the learning process into a full verbal transcript obtained from audio and video recording, then analyzing the appropriate dialogue pattern. Based on the data analysis, the form of dialogue pattern learning in cycle 1 was a two-way communication pattern with a teacher speech average percentage of 7.70% and students’ speech average percentage of 7.70%, which indicated a balance between teachers and students. While in cycle 2, classically also used a two-way communication with a teacher speech average percentage of 8.34% and students’ speech average percentage of 8.33%. It indicated that the teacher and students are equally active. Then, in cycle 2, there was a three-way communication with a teacher's average percentage of 1.13% and students' speech average percentage of 1.74%. There was a reciprocal relationship between teachers and students, but students tend to be more active. The teacher can use the analytical method using Transcript Based Lesson Analysis (TBLA) to analyze teaching and learning processes in the classroom.

The objective of the article is to discuss pedagogical approaches to translator training performed within the electronic educational space that connects instructors and students in pandemic times by means of E-learning courses. Having been removed from the classrooms, translation didactics has become more challenging because its traditional methodology includes shared experiences as a basis of instruction, best practices exchange, reciprocal learning and professional networking during the contact hours. Communication of obtained experience in translation is an essential part of translator training, and it involves all the stages of translation process: strategies of comprehending source texts, comparative discourse analysis, reflection on how translation decisions are made, and motivation in translation matches selection. Under these circumstances, the design of E-learning translation courses should be in compliance with the needs of students and instructors that go far beyond the traditional functions of learning management systems such as providing training materials and upload assignments. This work is a case study based on E-learning MOODLE courses developed for students of Irkutsk National Research Technical University pursuing undergraduate studies of translation for specific purposes. Initially, they were developed as additional implements to bolster students' classroom activities aimed mainly at assessing students' knowledge with tests, collecting and storing individual student or group assignments, and maintaining students' performance logs. After pandemic rethinking, it became necessary for them to meet a greater spectrum of pedagogical demands, so they were restructured. Based on this experience, the work outlines didactic models of translator training and their applicability to online mode of instruction, elaborates on the principles of translation E-Learning course design, describes the use of MOODLE instruments to perform the tasks of translation instruction, estimates their effectiveness, and suggest perspectives for further research.

The design of the Research project "Analysis of the influence of the assessor and assessee roles in the feed-up, feed-back and feed-forward processes and their impact on academic performance" (reference REDICE16-1460) and the innovation project "P2P4L2L (Peer to Peer for Learning to Learn)" (reference 2016PID-UB / 024) are presented. This project aims to incorporate peer review practices (peer to peer) to promote the development of the cross-curricular competence learning to learn. The innovation consists precisely in students assessing the work of their classmates through Moodle's 'Workshop'. It is evaluated the increase of the competence learning to learn these practices generate through an adaptation of the instrument proposed by Munoz et al. (2016), which is administered at the beginning and at the end of the innovation experience to determine if this practice has had a positive impact on students' learning to learn competence. Peer review is a reciprocal process whereby students produce feedback reviews on the work of peers and receive feedback reviews from peers on their own work (Nicol, Thomson and Breslin, 2014). An important process within this is shared assessment, which refers to student involvement in the assessment and learning practice, a process of dialogue and collaboration between teacher and students aimed at improving the learning process, both individually and collectively. In addition, at the end, the impact of the innovative experience on the perception of student learning is assessed through an adaptation of the questionnaire of Gallego et al. (2013). The results presented here seem to indicate that the Moodle's 'Workshop' has advantages, it makes it possible to obtain information about the activity of the students, which allows the teacher to influence more in their learning

There is an increasing body of scholarship (e.g. Wang, 2017) analyzing the way workplace learning has been progressively backed by swift developments in information and communication technology, which has generated deep-seated alterations to the manners individuals access data and knowledge, and collaborate with other employees. E-learning zeroes in on the utilization of computer and network technologies to establish an elaborate learning setting entailing a broad series of information and knowledge resources and an array of clarifications for learning, education, and reciprocal action. Technology-dominated proposals make e-learning schemes less learning successful, determining their confined effect on stimulating individuals to take in and maintaining employee knowledge and abilities advanced. Focusing on the instrumental role of job design, workplace instruction, and educational experience, the aim of this paper is to prove that, for personnel, albeit knowledge and abilities may be assimilated by engaging in e-learning procedures, more frequently employees do not assume that e-learning is significant to their regular activities and effective in enhancing job performance. For entities, e-learning is commonly drawn up without considering the organizational strategy and mission, and particular training preconditions. Our results support prior research and illustrate the urgency of understanding that technology should be incorporated in pedagogical design to enhance technology affordances, education should be adjusted to separate demands and organizational objectives, evaluations should be bolstered to establish the accomplishment of e-learning aims, and strategic planning should be made for putting into practice chiefly in furthering organizational setting or culture. Workplace learning and its climate imply intricate, ambivalent, and constantly indefinite series of circumstances. Our research insists on the needs of regulating objective-led separate, social, and organizational mechanisms determined by the aims to enhance both specific and organizational performance via workplace e-learning schemes.

We rely on Vaughan et al. (2013) to prove that the transformative cutting edge of virtual communication and online learning communities generates novel manners for teachers and learners to participate, cooperate, and be instrumental in learning. The innovative learning setting, when associated with face-to-face reciprocal actions, demands relevant role alterations and the requirement to grasp the notion of teaching presence for inherent and valid learning outcomes. Information and communications technology supply the chance to constitute communities of individuals that back commitment and teamwork. To introduce empirical content to our theoretical model, we start with the finding that the teacher in a blended setting is collaboratively active in drawing up, furthering, and managing the didactic experience. Blended learning has acquired rising consideration with the incorporation of web-based technologies into the pedagogical process (the essence of blended learning is the assimilation of face-to-face and online learning undertakings). The key role of blended learning is to develop rationalization and communication across time and space. For¬ the¬ investigation of¬ the¬ formulated issues, we develop first-rate recent literature and agree that blended learning is particularly intended for improving commitment via the groundbreaking embracing of focused online learning undertakings, and its objective is to merge face-to-face concomitant interaction and text-based online nonsynchronous interaction to educationally stimulate learners in manners not conceivable via either mode separately. Blended learning maintains educational interaction in time, and learners have time to ponder and reply considerately. Learning communities supply the circumstances for debate, mediation, and compliance in face-to-face and online settings with infinite likelihoods to link to other individuals and to information. Our findings support our theoretical discussion and empirical analysis and are consistent with research highlighting that in a synergetic community of inquiry, education is established in focused inquiry and learners collaboratively take up joint accountability and control to conceive, further, and manage inquiry.
