Повний текст джерелаThis thesis presents a dedicated study of additional radiation in e⁺e⁻ → µ⁺µ⁻γ and e⁺e⁻ → π⁺π⁻γ initial-state-radiation (ISR) events. This study is based on the data collected by the BABAR detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 424.2 fb⁻¹ and 43.9 fb⁻¹ at and below the Y(4S) resonance, respectively. Two-body ISR events are selected by requiring the ISR photon energy in the center-of-mass frame E^*_ γISR be greater than 4 GeV and the laboratory polar angle in the range 0.35-2.45 rad, and exactly two opposite charged tracks, each with transverse momentum p_T > 0,1 GeV and within the angular range 0.40-2.45 rad. In the events with two ISR photon candidates, the ISR photon is chosen to be that with the higher E^*_ γISR. Kinematic fits of next-to-leading order (NLO) and next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) are performed to probe the radiation of one or two photons respectively in the initial and final states in addition to the ISR photon. Several boosted decision trees (BDTs) based on the multivariate technique are performed to (1) determine the normalization factors for simulated multihadron backgrounds from qqbar and 3π processes, (2) separate dimuon and dipion signals from backgrounds in a two-dimensional χ² plane of kinematic fits with a small-or large-angle additional photon, and (3) suppress background contributions in dipion samples with two additional photons. New results are presented for processes at NLO following the previous BABAR analysis, comparing with predictions from PHOKHARA and AFKQED Monte Carlo (MC) generators. The comparison reveals discrepancies in the one-photon rates and the PHOKHARA generator. The observed disagreement has a negligible effect on the BABAR measurement of the dipion cross section, but it could affect other ISR-based measurements more significantly. To further investigate the results from the NLO analysis, a 0C analysis which stands for zero constraint kinematic reconstruction of the full muon sample is performed and validates the observed disagreement. Substantial NNLO contributions are studied and quantified in both dimuon and dipion processes. Implications of these results for other experiments are briefly discussed and compared

Повний текст джерелаIn this study four proteins were irradiated in the solid state at ambient temperature. Thioredoxine, lysozyme and a-lactalbumine were irradiated in the lyophilised state, human insulin was irradiated in the hexameric crystalline state. For all proteins and whatever the irradiation atmosphere is, irradiation seems to lead to only small changes. For doses lower than 5 kGy, all methods lead to the same conclusion : the percent of degradation is lower than 5 %. Irradiation affect all levels of organisation. As for primary structure, we did not detect any sequence or residue that would be specially sensitive. We have evidences for oxidative degradation pathway, specially on aromatic residues and this conclusion seems general. As for the secondary structure, insulin appears more sensitive than other proteins. Two different kinds of degradation appear, since we get more compact and more released proteins. .

Повний текст джерелаThough the finite element method requires more input data than traditional methods, it is increasingly used for the design of geotechnical structures. Its use needs to define initial stresses, which are difficult to estimate or to measure.This thesis is a contribution to a better understanding of the initial stresses in a slope. It consists of both numerical and experimental studies.The numerical studies focus on two issues. At first, they assess the effects of initial stresses on the results of calculations using finite element methods. Secondly, the distribution of stresses in a slope is analysed, using CESAR-LCPC finite elements software. The influence of geological, geometric and mechanical parameters on the state of stresses is studied.The objective of the experimental studies is to measure the lateral stresses in a slope using push-in total stress cells. The stresses are measured continuously in order to estimate the stresses in the ground after the dissipation of the effects of installation procedure. Laboratory tests made at CEREMA in Aix-en-Provence include “K0 oedometer tests” which provide measures of the coefficient of earth pressure at rest. The difficulties associated with the measurement of the coefficient of earth pressure at rest and the parameters that can influence it (type of soil, geometry of soil mass, water content ...) are discussed

Повний текст джерелаInitial stress state is the stress state before any human activity. Its knowledge is essential when dealing with scientific (understanding of plate tectonics), preventive (earthquake prediction) and industrial (understanding reservoirs before their exploitation) purposes. We present a method to estimate the initial stress state in a 3D domain from sparse data. This method relies on an inverse approach which uses the finite elements method to solve the elastic mechanical problem. The model parameters are Neumann conditions, which are defined as piecewise linear functions. The data parameters are stress state observations, such as intensity and orientation at a few points. An ensemble optimization method is used to solve the inverse problem. The method is tested on a synthetic case where the reference solution is known. On this example, the method succeeds in retrieving the stress state at data points as well as in the whole domain. The method is enriched with a mechanical criterion which imposes mechanical constraints in the domain under study. The method is then applied to a real case: the Neuquèn basin in Argentina where borehole stress data is available. This application reveals some of the limits of the presented method. Then, the effect of faults on the stress state is investigated. Different modeling strategies are presented: the objective is to reduce the computing cost, which can be very high when dealing with such complex structures. We propose to model them using only elastic properties. Finally, we present the integrative software which were developed to run mechanical simulations. RINGMesh handles the structural model data structure and RINGMecha runs the mechanical simulations on the model. RINGMecha is interfaced with several simulators. Each of them can be called separately, depending on the problem to be solved. The interface of RINGMecha with third party simulators is done in a user friendly manner. RINGMecha was used for all the computations presented in this thesis. It was built in order to be extended to other problems, with other simulators

Повний текст джерелаWe have studied photoionization and radiativeless decay processes of atomic alkaline (Na) and alkaline-earth (Ca, Ba) vapors in ground state and in excited states prepared by laser. Electron spectrometry allowed us to energy analyse the electrons emitted during the interaction between the monochromatized synchrotron radiation from ACO storage ring and a vapor beam. Our main results deal with:- measurement of single and multiple photoionization cross sections in outer-shells and inner-shells of calcium and barium atoms in their ground state, between 20 eV and 180 eV photon energy;- measurement of kinetic energies of Auger electrons emitted during the decay of an inner hole in Ca and Ba atoms;- study of autoionization of excited states populated by 3p→ nl transitions in Ca, and 4d→ nl transitions in Ba;The second part of this work concerns the study of direct and resonant photoionization processes in laser excited sodium and barium atoms. We have determined:- oscillator strengths of transitions from the 2p⁶ 3p excited state to even parity 2p⁵ 3s 3p states in sodium atoms;- photoionization cross sections in 5d excited subshell of barium atoms and in 5p and 5s inner-shells of barium atoms in the excited state 5p⁶ 6s 5d ¹ ³ D, between 18 eV and 140 eV photon energy;- the decay channels of excited states populated by resonant transitions 4d→ nl in excited barium atoms

Повний текст джерелаThe top quark mass is a fundamental parameter of the Standard Model of Particle Physics. One of the challenges in the LHC physics case, where the top quark is produced in abundance, is the precise determination of this parameter. Currently, it is measured through the direct reconstruction of all the top quark decay products. The systematic uncertainty on the jet energy calibration and b tagging sensibly limits the precision on this measurement and it is thus vital to develop alternative measurements. A very promising possibility – never exploited until now – is the study of top pair decays, where one of the two quarks decays in the leptonic channel with a J/psi created in the b quark fragmentation. The top quark mass is extracted through its correlation to the invariant mass of the J/psi-charged lepton combination. This method presents the advantages of using charged leptons only, whose energy momentum is measured with great accuracy in the CMS detector

Повний текст джерелаThe NEMO3 detector was designed for the study of double beta decay and in particular the search for neutrinoless double beta decay (bb0n). The quantity of 100Mo in the detector (7 kg) allows also a competitive measurement of the two-neutrino double beta decay (bb2n) of 100Mo to the excited 0+ state of 100Ru (eeNg channel). Monte-Carlo simulations of the effect and of all the possible sources of background have been studied in order to determine their contributions to the full NEMO3 experimental data (2003-2011). These one have then been analysed: the bb2n decay half-life has been measured, and a limit on the bb0n decay has been obtained. Moreover, the SuperNEMO experiment aims to reach a sensitivity up to 10^26 years on the half-life of neutrinoless double beta decay. The SuperNEMO detector radioactivity has to be as low as possible. Especially radiopurity levels of 2 uBq/kg in 208Tl and 10 uBq/kg in 214Bi are required for the source foils. The gamma-spectrometry can not measure such low contamination levels. Hence, a BiPo dedicated detector has been developped to measure 208Tl and 214Bi contaminations, identifing the Bi→Po→Pb beta-alpha chains. A proof of principle has been performed and the detector background has been measured. Assuming these values, a full BiPo detector of 3. 6 m2 can achieve the required sensitivities for the SuperNEMO source foils within six months of measurement
