Multi-story Masonry Building with R. C. Frames on Ground Floor (Framed-Ground Floor Structure for short) which has serious seismic damage and high collapsed rate, is the unreasonable structure system. However, the structure system not be abolished for economic reason. Collapse types of that are divided into collapse of ground floor, collapse of transition layer, global collapse. And seismic damage is also serious for frame column and shear wall. Experiences are obtained from above seismic damage, and the following aspects should be taken into account in the future. 1. The shear wall can be increased to improve stiffness of weak layer. And designer should try to arrange the walls equably. 2. In order to avoid stiffness mutation, stiffness ratio between ground frame and transition layer can be adjusted. 3. Collapse resistant design of Framed-Ground Floor Structures should be emphasized.

This study focuses on the experimental works to define the behavior of the reinforced concrete (R/C) frame model with the strengthening of the brick masonry infill by using the embedded reinforcement bars subjected to lateral reversed cyclic loads. A previous study by applying the lateral monotonic static loads showed that the embedded reinforcement bars increased the lateral capacity of the R/C frame and also delayed the failure of the brick masonry infill and R/C frame structure as well. However, in order to define its seismic capacity, a lateral reversed cyclic loading is required. The experimental works in this study were conducted by preparing and testing the 1/4 scaled-down R/C frame specimens represented the first story of the middle multi-story commonly constructed in the earthquake-prone area such as West Sumatera, Indonesia. The R/C frame specimens were two R/C frames with brick masonry infills where one of them strengthened by the embedded reinforced bars. All specimens were tested for applying the lateral reversed cyclic loads. The applied lateral load, the lateral displacement, the progressive cracks, and the failure mode of the specimens were observed and recorded during experimental works. As it was expected, the presence of the embedded reinforced bars in the brick masonry infills increases the seismic capacity and stiffness of the R/C specimens and also delayed the failure of the specimens. The experimental results in this study imply the simple strengthening method for the brick masonry infills.

This paper presents an experimental and numerical investigations for three reinforced self-compacting concrete portal frames tested under uniform load. Control frame was tested without any types of strengthening, while second frame was strengthened with CFRP-sheet with dimensions (75 * 1000) mm at the bottom of beam and with dimensions (75 *700) mm at both joints, (350 mm) extending to the upper surface of the beam and (350 mm) on the outer face of the column. The last frame was cast in two pours tested without strengthening. The experimental tests showed that strengthened frame had stiffness more than control frame and its ultimate load was more than control frame by (19.45 %), while frame with two pours has an ultimate load less than a control frame with (11.26 %), however stiffness seem approximately to the control frame. Deflection for strengthened frame was less than control frame by (4.76%), on the other hand frame with two pours deflection was more than control frame by (4.55 %). A numerical finite element program ultimate load was more than experimental by about (4.28 %).

This study investigates an innovative method based on low yield steel plate shear walls for seismic retrofitting of existing reinforced concrete (R/C) structures. A simplified numerical model of steel shear panels is developed for global analyses of multi-story R/C frames. The seismic performance of a non-ductile five-story R/C frame retrofitted with steel plate shear walls is evaluated in terms of drift control and energy dissipation capacity using nonlinear dynamic analyses. The results obtained by the application of two different story-wise distributions of steel plates are compared. In case of retrofitted frames a considerable decrease of the maximum top displacements is registered and the energy dissipated by the primary structural elements is significantly reduced for severe seismic actions. The energy dissipation concentrates in the steel panels, reducing the plastic demand on the structural members, along with the potential for structural damage. The different story-wise distributions of the steel panels change the damage distribution throughout the frame. The uniform arrangement of the steel panel thickness along the height of the frame causes a concentration of damage in the columns of the first story. In case of steel panel distribution proportional to story shear, the energy dissipation results more uniform over the height of the frame and a significant decrease of damage is registered for the columns of all the storeys.

Seismic resistance of many buildings in Turkey is insufficient. Strengthening using R/C infills requires huge construction work. Feasible, easy strengthening techniques are being studied in Structural Mechanics Laboratory of METU. In this project, it was aimed to develop an economical strengthening method. This method is based on addition of steel fibers and/or PP fibers in mortar and application of mortar on masonry wall. Project was sponsored by the Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TÜ
BiTAK). Physical properties of cement, aggregate, and mortar used in tests were determined by material tests. After performing flexural strength and compressive strength tests, optimum mortar was obtained. R/C frames strengthened by applying the mortar to brick infilled walls were tested under reversed cyclic loads. Before the frame tests, two series of panel tests were performed to correctly model strengthened infill walls and to gather information about behavior of walls under load. Totally 10 frame tests were done. 4 tests were done as reference tests, and other 6 were done as strengthened frame tests. In the analytical part of study, the plastered hollow brick infill wall strengthened by FRM was modeled as two separate compression struts. First strut was used to model the plastered hollow brick infill wall. Second strut was used to model the FRM. This technique is effective in improving seismic behavior by increasing strength, initial stiffness, energy dissipation, and ductility. Moreover, the method provides strengthening of the buildings without evacuating the structure.

Located on one of the highly active seismic fault systems in the world, the building stock in Turkey is mainly composed of reinforced concrete frames with 4-5 stories. Due to design and construction deficiencies resulting from the use of unqualified personnel and insufficient supervision, many of these buildings lack lateral stiffness, ductility and strength. For many structures, there is a need to alleviate these deficiencies by means of some rehabilitation techniques prior to earthquakes. One approach also used very widely in Turkey is to fill some of the frame bays by cast-in-place R/C panels. The procedure appears to be very practical at first glance. It also appears to be very economical as far as the production of the panels is concerned. However, the production phase is slow, dirty, destructive and disruptive to occupants. Moreover, it requires relatively skilled personnel and special equipment. Therefore, the real life experience shows that the actual cost in practice is much higher when all other hidden costs are taken into account. The aim of this experimental study is to explore the potential of using infill walls made of custom shaped and high strength concrete blocks as a simpler and more practical alternative to cast-in-place R/C panels to increase the lateral load bearing capacity of frame structures. The effectiveness of FRCM (Fiber Reinforced Cementitous Matrix) system on damaged structures is also investigated in this study.

Since the discovery in the early 1950's, frames have emerged as an important tool in signal processing, image processing, data compression and sampling theory etc. Today, powerful tools from operator theory and Banach space theory are being introduced to the study of frames producing deep results in frame theory. In recent years, many mathematicians generalized the frame theory from Hilbert spaces to Hilbert C*-modules and got significant results which enrich the theory of frames. Also there is growing evidence that Hilbert C*-modules theory and the theory of wavelets and frames are tightly related to each other in many aspects. Both research fields can benefit from achievements of the other field. Our purpose of this dissertation is to work on several basic problems on frames for Hilbert C*-modules. We first give a very useful characterization of modular frames which is easy to be applied. Using this characterization we investigate the modular frames from the operator theory point of view. A condition under which the removal of element from a frame in Hilbert C*-modules leaves a frame or a non-frame set is also given. In contrast to the Hilbert space situation, Riesz bases of Hilbert C*-modules may possess infinitely many alternative duals due to the existence of zero-divisors and not every dual of a Riesz basis is again a Riesz basis. We will present several such examples showing that the duals of Riesz bases in Hilbert $C^*$-modules are much different and more complicated than the Hilbert space cases. A complete characterization of all the dual sequences for a Riesz basis, and a necessary and sufficient condition for a dual sequence of a Riesz basis to be a Riesz basis are also given. In the case that the underlying C*-algebra is a commutative W*-algebra, we prove that the set of the Parseval frame generators for a unitary group can be parameterized by the set of all the unitary operators in the double commutant of the unitary group. Similar result holds for the set of all the general frame generators where the unitary operators are replaced by invertible and adjointable operators. Consequently, the set of all the Parseval frame generators is path-connected. We also prove the existence and uniqueness of the best Parseval multi-frame approximations for multi-frame generators of unitary groups on Hilbert C*-modules when the underlying C*-algebra is commutative. For the dilation results of frames we show that a complete Parseval frame vector for a unitary group on Hilbert C*-module can be dilated to a complete wandering vector. For any dual frame pair in Hilbert C*-modules, we prove that the pair are orthogonal compressions of a Riesz basis and its canonical dual basis for some larger Hilbert C*-module. For the perturbation of frames and Riesz bases in Hilbert C*-modules we prove that the Casazza-Christensen general perturbation theorem for frames in Hilbert spaces remains valid in Hilbert C*-modules. In the Hilbert space setting, under the same perturbation condition, the perturbation of any Riesz basis remains a Riesz basis. However, this no longer holds for Riesz bases in Hilbert C*-modules. We also give a complete characterization on all the Riesz bases for Hilbert C*-modules such that the perturbation (under Casazza-Christensen's perturbation condition) of a Riesz basis still remains a Riesz basis.

Le doigt de zinc du type ring (c 3hc 4) fait partie des interactions intermoleculaires dans des complexes multiproteiques et pourrait jouer un role dans leur assemblage ou stabilisation. Il est aussi responsable, en collaboration avec la boite b, de la localisation compartementalisee subcellulaire des proteines. Le doigt de zinc du type boite b (chc 3 - 4h 2) est implique dans des interactions proteine-proteines, par exemple dans la liaison de pml a rb1. Le domaine de dimerisation par helices hydrophobes (coiled coil) est une super-helice des helices et participe a la dimerisation, ensemble avec la boite b : le coiled coil comme surface d'interaction, la boite b peut-etre comme stabilisateur de l'orientation du coiled coil. Les trois domaines constituent le motif tripartie qui semble jouer un role fondamental dans l'adressage ou l'assemblage des macromolecules. Les membres les mieux etudies de cette famille multiproteique sont pml et les tif1. Pml est une proteine avec des capacites multiples de regulation : elle fait partie des complexes transcriptionnellement actifs, elle reprime (a travers l'apoptose) la croissance et la transformation, et elle controle des fonctions immunitaires, sous influence de l'acide retinoique et des interferons. Nous avons pu eclaircir le mecanisme moleculaire de l'induction transcriptionnelle de pml par les interferons avec l'identification d'elements fonctionnels de reponse aux interferons dans le promoteur de pml. Pml est fusionne au recepteur de l'acide retinoique, rar dans la translocation t(15 ; 17) specifiquement rencontree dans la vaste majorite

This thesis presents a comprehensive study of long-span cold-formed steel single C-section portal frames. The study includes the formulation of a nonlinear beam finite element for thin-walled sections, a series of full-scale frame tests and component tests, finite element modelling and advanced analysis followed by the formulation of design guidelines. The study was aimed at exploring the structural behaviour through experiment and numerical analysis towards developing provisions for the design of cold-formed steel portal frames using Advanced Analysis. A nonlinear thin-walled beam element for general open cross-sections was formulated, incorporating warping effect and non-coincident location of the shear centre and the centroid. It was successfully implemented in the geometric nonlinear analysis framework of the OpenSees finite element software. Towards investigating the behaviour and determining the ultimate strength, six full-scale tests on cold-formed steel single C-section portal frames were conducted. Separate tests were performed on frame connections, point-fastener connections and coupons to obtain the material parameters required for numerical modelling. Advanced shell finite element models of the full-scale frames and frame connections were created and validated against experimental results. The bolts and screws used for the connections between components were represented by point-based deformable fasteners. The force-deformation characteristics of the deformable fasteners were incorporated and successfully implemented in the Advanced Analysis. The strength of cold-formed steel single C-section portal frames determined by the Direct Strength Method and the Direct Design Method were compared. To account for inherent uncertainties in the strength of CFS portal frames, system resistance factors were derived. It was concluded that the Direct Design Method using Advanced Analysis is the likely future method for the design of cold-formed steel portal frames.

AbstractRuthenium-Catalyzed C-C Bond Formation via Functional-Group Directed C-H Bond ActivationXiangyu GuoAdvisor: Prof. Chao-Jun LiMcGill UniversityThis thesis is an investigation on the formation of carbon-carbon (C-C) bonds in the presence of ruthenium catalyst.In the first part of this thesis, oxidative dehydrogenative coupling reactions for carbon-carbon (C-C) bond formation are described. A ruthenium-catalyzed dimerization of 2-phenylpyridine derivatives is demonstrated to synthesize biaryls using iron(III) chloride as the terminal oxidant. In addition, the oxidative cross coupling of arenes and cycloalkanes is also illustrated, achieving a unique para-selectivity.In the second part of the thesis, a ruthenium-catalyzed olefination via decarbonylative addition of aldehydes to terminal alkynes is described. Conjugated and isolated C=C bonds can be chemoselectively generated in two catalytic systems starting from aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes. The method provides an alternative synthesis of C=C bonds from direct C-H bond addition to triple bonds.

La première partie de cette thèse expose les résultats sur la formation de liaison carbone-carbone (C-C) par la réaction de couplage oxydant par déshydrogénation. La synthèse de composés biaryl par l'utilisation d'un catalyseur de ruthénium a permis la dimérisation des dérivés de la 2-phénylpyridine en présence de chlorure de fer (III) comme oxydant terminal. En outre, l'oxydative cross-coupling entre arènes et cycloalcanes, a montrer une notable, para-sélectivité. La seconde partie de cette thèse, décrit les résultats obtenue sur la réaction d'oléfination decarbonylative entre un aldéhyde et un alcyne vrai, catalyser par le ruthénium. En partant d'aldéhydes aromatiques ou aliphatiques et par l'utilisation de deux systèmes catalytiques, la synthèse chemioselective de double liaison C=C conjuguée ou isolée ont pu être réalisé. Cette réaction fournit ainsi, une intéressante alternative à la synthèse de doubles liaisons C=C par la directe addition de liaison C-H sur une triple liaison.

This thesis describes the formation of new C-C bonds from the direct oxidative coupling of two C-H bonds, through the use of metal catalysts for activation. First, three different oxidative Cross-Dehydrogenative-Coupling (CDC) reactions will be presented. Initially, through the use of an organic co-catalyst, N-hydroxyphthalimide (NHPI), oxygen could be utilized as the terminal oxidant for the metal catalyzed alkylation of benzylic C-H bonds with 1,3-dicarbonyls and ketones in Chapter 2. The reaction was found to be feasible for a variety of substrates with readily enolizable C-H bonds. Next, the 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone (DDQ) mediated alkynylation of sp3 C-H bonds was studied. A novel copper (I) triflate catalyzed CDC reaction of unactivated benzylic C-H bonds and terminal aromatic alkynes is presented in Chapter 3. After further studies, the alkynylation of benzylic ethers could also be realized in the presence of a catalytic amount of silver (I) triflate, as described in Chapter 4. Both procedures were found to be amendable for aromatic terminal alkynes, however could not be extended to aliphatic alkynes. Finally, a palladium catalyzed Minisci-type reaction will be described in Chapter 6. Peroxide generated α-hydroxyalkyl radicals could be reacted with azines in moderate to good yields. A stoichiometric amount of acid, used in the traditional Minisci reaction, was replaced by a catalytic amount of palladium dichloride.
Cette thèse décrit la formation de nouvelles liaisons C-C par activation oxydative directe de deux liaisons C-H grâce à l'utilisation de métaux de transition comme catalyseurs. La première partie présentera trois différentes réactions de Cross-Dehydrogenative-Coupling (CDC) oxydantes. Dans un premier temps, sera présentée dans le chapitre 2, la réaction d'alkylation de liens C-H benzylique par 1,3-dicarbonyles et cétones. Ce system a démontré son efficacité sur une large variété de substrats contenant des liaisons C-H enolysable. De plus il a été rendu possible, grâce à l'utilisation d'un co-catalyseur organique, le N-Hydroxyphthalimide (NHPI), d'utiliser l'oxygène moléculaire comme oxydant terminal. Dans un second temps, nous étudierons l'utilisation du 2,3-Dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone (DDQ) comme médiateur pour l'alkynylation de liaisons sp3 C-H. Une nouvelle CDC réaction catalysée par le triflate de cuivre (I) sera présentée dans le chapitre 3, entre un alcyne et une liaison C-H benzylique. Le chapitre 4 présentera le développement de cette réaction à l'alcynation d'éthers benzyliques en présence d'une quantité catalytique de triflate d'argent (I). Ces deux procédures sont seulement applicables pour les alcynes vrais aromatiques. Finalement, le chapitre 6 portera sur la réaction de Minisci catalysée par le palladium. Le peroxyde radical α-hydroxyalkyl généré lors de la réaction est capable de réagir avec les azines. La petite ville s'est transformée au point que seuls les anciens s'en souviennent encore et narrent une ville qui désormais a disparu. Le plus remarquable est la séparation du politique et du système d'intégration à la ville désormais ouvert au système marchand. L'unité de la ville s'efface alors au profit de la qualité de séparation. Dans ce contexte, l'habitant en tant que statut disparaît au profit de l'habitant qualité qui s'acquiert. La petite ville n'est plus qu'un "habit vide" et les relations entre les individus s'effectuent ailleurs. Plus précisément, à partir d'un "archipel pavillonnaire" et donc dans des îlots séparés et différenciés socialement. Nous argumentons donc pour une séparation des univers sociaux à l'instar des territoires urbains et plus précisément des villes américaines. Les habitants vivent dans des groupes sociaux inclusifs organisés sur une base spatiale. L'archipel pavillonnaire est alors un monde de la complexité dans lequel l'individualisation et la séparation en formulent l'expérience. En définitive, dans l'archipel pavillonnaire, la qualité de séparation, la faiblesse des liens et l'évitement des conflits constituent un ordre moral singulier : le minimalisme moral
The little town has changed so much that only the elderly can remember it and tell the story of bygone days. What is worth noting is the separation between politics, and the town system of integration now open to free trade. The town unity is replaced by the quality of separation. In these circumstances, the inhabitant as status steps aside in favor of the inhabitant as quality, which can be acquired. The small town is merely an empty garment and the relationships between inhabitant are elsewhere, more precisely from a residential area in socially separate places. We therefore advocate for a separation of social universes following the example of urban territories and more precisely American cities. The inhabitant live in inclusive social groups organized on a spatial basis. The suburban area is then a world of complexity in which individualization and separation express this experience. Анотація:
Multi-story reinforced concrete structures in previous periods, in general, do not meet current seismic design code requirements, including the poor materials and execution of civil engineering works. In the scope of this, is analyzed the behavior of the structures during the Earthquake of November 2019, in Albania, specifically in different building stocks. Typical structural deficiencies observed in reinforced concrete (R/C) frame buildings affected by the 2019 earthquake reveal that many collapses occurred could be attributed to the poor quality of construction and use of non-ductile detailing and during the assessment that deficiency beam–column joints can jeopardize the integrity of structures. In general, it is accepted that beam-column joints are critical elements of reinforced concrete buildings subjected to lateral loads and that they may require specific design. Assessment reports have often indicated that beam-column joints, which are one of the most vulnerable and critical structural elements, often suffer shear and/or bond (anchorage) failures leading to a partial or total collapse of the structure. This paper will present some of the destructive and non-destructive tests specifically to the beam-column joints and techniques using fiber-reinforced polymers (FRP) for strengthening. Strengthening of beam-column joints by FRP materials nowadays is treated with various analytical approaches integrated in different software. Various analyses have been conducted and a practical proposal for retrofitting is presented in cohesion with the study case and the implementation.

This study was a diagnostic research, so the content was decomposed according to PIRO : P: Patients diagnosed with sudden death; I: C-reactive protein; R: There is no gold standard for sudden death, and the definition of sudden death varies from literature to literature. The World Health Organization defines sudden death: "Patients who are normally healthy or seemingly healthy die suddenly due to natural diseases in an unexpectedly short period of time." In our study, sudden death is determined by the history, symptoms, physical examination and electrocardiogram results assesed by doctor. If death events were collected from the patients’ medical records, deaths coded using the International Classification of Diseases-9th Revision, codes 410 to 414 for non-SCD and 798.1 for SCD; or the International Classification of Diseases-10th Revision, codes I20 to I25 for non-SCD and I46 for SCD. All deaths registered as sudden deaths were confirmed in interviews with the patient’s physician or family members again. O: sudden death.
