Undoubtedly, the most important part of a book replete with hadiths is related to the texts of hadiths. Today, such studies about hadith are called Fiqh-al-Hadith which these studies are represented only for searching the exact meaning and concept in the texts for this, Scholars attempt to study terms of Hadith and narrative, and also they strived to compare these narratives with Quran, history, logical particles, and etc by which the final concept of narratives would be found. This fact is also true for the definitions represented in narrative books. It has to be noticed that as shown in dignitaries sayings and topics, Shaykh Hurr Ameli was interested in declarative inclinations and he knew all the narratives in the four books and also all the resources in Wasael ush-Shia authentic and accurate. This outlook was influential on the way he behaves with narratives. In 27th volume of Wasael ush-Shia about “Inadmissibility of theoretical precepts of the phenomena of the Quran” and after mentioning a narration by Amir al-Momenin alayhis salam, believes that ayatul ahkam is from the cases which only fourteen infallible could get recognition of it. The present paper is such a philosophical theological Inquiry by which an observation about the Manhaj of Ahl Ul Hadith by Shaykh Hurr Ameli on the basis of Wasael ush-Shia has been provided.

The infallible imams of Shi'a have a special interest in human values ​​and have repeatedly advised people to adhere to moral virtues. In this study, a collection of ethical narratives of the fifth Imam of Shi'a, Imam Muhammad Bāqir (AS), has been presented, in which verse or verses of the Qur'an have been manifested. These narratives are then analyzed. The verses of the Qur’an have been expressed in the words of Imam Bāqir (AS) in various ways, including: adduce, citation, allusion, adaptation, or expression of instance. This research pursues several goals: First: Understanding how Imam Bāqir (AS) has used the Qur’an in his speech. Second: a detailed understanding of the subject of these narratives and the interpretation of the verses in which they are mentioned; Third: The relationship between the above verses and the narrative text. In the 14 hadiths of Imam Bāqir (AS), about 30 verses of the Qur'an have been manifested which have yielded important results from their analysis. Including: All the Imams in general and Imam Bāqir (AS) in particular, pay great attention to the Quran. And teach people to seek every true idea and belief from the verses of the Qur'an, to question the master and have a scientific debate and controversy, to bring their evidence from the Qur'an as the most important scientific and religious source, and to ignore the word that has no Qur'anic reason, and not to suffice the appearance of Qur'an and pay attention to its hidden meaning. Some of the ethical virtues that Imam Muhammad Bāqir (AS) has explained include: flexibility in accepting the right, believers' dignity, public relations, rationality in public relations, avoiding the vain and futile word, avoiding many questions, avoiding nonsense and slander toward people, avoiding illicit relationships and short-change.

Sirah materials have been deemed by modern scholars as a hybrid literature, a combination of biography, prophetology and hagiography. The authors of the sirah record the Prophet’s significance with admiration and clear devotion; but there is very little evidence of his early life and the narratives are recorded with reverence. In the Quran itself, there is little evidence of Prophet Muḥammad’s early biography, with scarcely any details before the receiving of his first revelations around the age of forty. Even with the infrequency of its references, this condition cause no hinder to a Muslim. A complete biography of the Prophet’s life was produced completely equipped with its references from the Quran. The present study aims to explore the development of emerging number of Quranic verses that used as references for the narratives of the Prophet’s early life in sirah literature. It also seeks to analyze the nature of relationship between sirah and the Quran. The present study deals solely with texts. In order to attain the objectives of the research, textual analysis will be employed as a major tool in examining and exploring the sources The study in its findings argue that Quranization of the sirah account in the rationalist atmosphere of the ninth century drove some authors to refer to the Quran as a supportive mechanism, to strengthen and provide a solid ground for what they were saying about Prophet Muhammad.

Some orientalists have cast doubts upon the Holy Quran stating that the book has been distorted (it has been subject to Tahrif). Sometimes, these orientalists refer to some incorrect information to justify this rumor. One of those people is the German orientalist, Reiner Bruner. In this study, Bruner's viewpoints on both Shiite and Sunnites’ beliefs in the 20th century are discussed. In this study, Bruner’s viewpoints on the distortion of Quran are briefly analyzed and criticized. The method of this study is descriptive-analytical. Furthermore, based on authentic documents, this study responds Bruner's claims. In some of his works, Bruner has attributed the rumor of distortion to some early Shiite scholars. This article confirms that most Shiite scholars including the earliest and the most recent ones do not accept the distortion of Holy Quran. Most Shiite scholars believe that Quran is pure from any kind of distortion including additions or omissions and they refer to the verses of the Quran, the narratives of the Innocent Imams (Hadith) and the words of some greate Shiite scholars.

This paper aims to show the stylistics of devil’s disobedience story in Al-Quran . There are seven stories in seven chapters of al-Quran which talk over devil’s disobedience story. This stylistics of devil’s disobedience narratives is analysed by the observation of al-Quran stories within stylistics frame. There were four stylistics which the writer found in this paper. First, the stylistics of this story used four exposure techniques, they were a story began by climax scene, a story began with no preface, a story described by human imagination involve, and a story with insertion of religiousness advices. Second, presentation of story’s elements in this story served all of elements within a story, they were prominent figure, phenomenon, and dialogue. Third, there were three kinds of repetition happened in this story, they were a repetition of story line with the different character, a repetition of story with the different chronology, and a repetition of story with the different language style. Shaykh al-Qusi is a charismatic spiritual leader in Cairo whose followers have been recording their dream visions and waking visions in a handwritten collection since 1997. Drawing on the shaykh's dream-inspired poetry and his followers' vision narratives, I describe the ways in which this community of believers understands the relationship between authorship and authority, as well as between imagination (al-khayamacr;l) and tradition. Dreams and visions do not circumvent idioms of the textual tradition, but in their narrative form they often mirror and reinscribe its genres. Some of the group's vision narratives emulate the face-to-face encounters of the hadith whereas others signify eruptions of a timeless truth from elsewhere, similar to the Quran. Through mirroring the sacred genres, dreams and visions bring believers closer to these texts. Just as dreams are understood through the tradition, the tradition is understood by some through dreams.

Kajian modern tentang asal-usul sīrah Nabawiyah telah menelusuri dan menemukan keberadaan pengaruh kitab suci sebelumnya dan unsur-unsurnya dalam narasi sīrah. Kisah tentang Halimah, sang ibu susuan, menurut Raven, menunjukkan kejadian paralel dengan kematangan Yesus ketika bayi, dalam Injil. Selain itu, para sarjana Muslim seperti Ibn Hisham ditemukan konsisten dalam membuat perbandingan paralel antara Muhammad dan Musa dalam karyanya. Tulisan ini memfokuskan pada kehidupan awal yang terfokus pada periode Ḥalīmah al-Sa'diyyah dengan menganalisis penggunaan referensi Al-Quran dalam narasi. Penelitian ini bersifat kualitatif dengan metode pendekatan kritis dan analisis tekstual untuk membaca cerita. Kajian ini menemukan proposisi bahwa ada dua kemungkinan alasan yang mengarahkan Ibn Hisham menambahkan ayat 28:12 dari Al-Qur'an sebagai referensi atas catatan waktu Muhammad sebagai bayi yang menyusu. The extraordinary speed and marks of physical maturity in Prophet Muḥammad’s wet-nurse period with Halimah, which, according to Raven, indicates a parallel occurrence with Jesus' precocity in the Gospels of the Infancy. Besides, Muslim scholars such as Ibn Hishām was found to consistently make parallel comparison between Muḥammad and Moses in his work. This study aims to explore the narratives of Prophet Muḥammad’s early life, with special focus to his period with Ḥalīmah al-Sa’diyyah and analyse the use of Quranic reference in the narrative. The study is qualitative in nature in which the researcher employed critical and textual analysis to examine the story. The present study in its finding proposes that there are two possible reasons which lead Ibn Hishām to adduce verse 28:12 of the Quran as his reference to the account of Muḥammad’s time as a suckling infant. The first is to elucidate lexical obscurity in the narration of Ibn Isḥāq. And the second is to give credence to the similarity between the accounts of two prophets, Muḥammad and Moses.

This study intends to unravel the balaghah aspect which supports the narrative structure of the story between Moses with the Pious Man in Surah al-Kahf as an effort to highlight the aesthetic value of the story. The two main elements of discussion are given the focal attention in the analysis, namely the balaghah aspects and the narrative structure to demonstrate the coordination between the two elements. This study applies the analytical method by extracting the aspects of balaghah through the conventional approach practiced and introduced by the Abd Al-Qāhir Al-Jurjānī. This approach explains the existence of the close relationship between the balaghah aspect and the narrative technique. The balaghah aspect is the element being analysed however this study attempts to relate the approach with the narrative structures. In analyzing Quranic texts related to Moses with the Pious Man, this study unravels the narrative structure found in the text by examining the balaghah aspects that support the structures. This analysis does not cover other available narratives which are not related to this particular story. This analysis also focuses on the word choice, the arrangement in the text, the rational of using the word and its implication, and the lesson and example derived from the narrative. Hence, with this approach, the analysis is expected to provide answers especially to the priority given by the Quran to certain utterances in supporting the narrative structure of this story in an effort to highlight the compatibility and harmony between the balaghah aspects and the narrative structure, which lure the readers towards the beauty and uniqueness of the language found in the Quran, while simultaneously contribute new findings from different aspects.

The study of the Koran's stories focused on the excavation of its historical aspect. This was done to prove the existence of such narratives in the Koran as historical facts that happened. On the other hand, it is often the precautionary care of the story, even to be neglected. Mutawalli al-Sya'rawi came by offering insight into the story in the Koran, not only by digging out its heart, but also creating a similar story in every place and time. The study USES a descriptive approach. The things accredited by al-Sya'rawi is written in the code that doesn't give the character's real name, and that story will be repeated everywhere and every time. Like pharaoh that zalim, dictator, and raised himself. So did the dzulqarnain, who is good and empowering the weak. The personages of these two characters will continue to exist in life, wherever and wherever.

Through my study of the concept of lying, the research reached the most important results: 1- Lying sows the seed of distrust of society, lying is the key to sins, and that a liar is excluded from the mercy of God because God Almighty forbade it with evidence that the Islamic religion came to support the Islamic narratives that came from the tongues of the prophets and messengers. 2-The Qur’an, which is from a knowledgeable expert about it, is one of the verses that call for the truth of speech and the prohibition of lying, and not to distort speech, because that is considered the greatest of sins. 3-The difference in the wording of lying formulas What is the evidence that the Qur’an is a miraculous speech that dazzles with its eloquence the masters of minds and gives aesthetics to attract the attention of the minds of listeners and readers. This thesis examines modern interpretation of historical narrative in the Qur'an, taking as an example Sayyid Qut&dotbelow;b's exegesis of the stories of 'Ad and Thamud in his tafsir, Fi Z&dotbelow;ilal al-Qur'an. This is accomplished by surveying of 'Ad and Thamud prior to Qut&dotbelow;b to show how great the shift of interpretation is between classical and modern exegetes. Furthermore, close reading of Fi Z&dotbelow;ilal al-Qur'an is made in order to trace the significance of the two tales for Qut&dotbelow;b, as Qut&dotbelow;b's interpretation is not only a response to his predecessors but also to his contemporary milieu; which featured political, ideological and religious conflict. His experiences with the latter are reflected in his interpretation which follows the pattern of jahiliyah versus Islam, 'Ad versus Hud, and Thamud versus S&dotbelow;alih&dotbelow;. Hud and S&dotbelow;alih&dotbelow;, as prophets and callers to the truth, represent Qut&dotbelow;b himself, whereas 'Ad and Thamud, as challengers and evildoers, stand for his enemies; the West, its materialistic tendencies and the Egyptian government. In commenting on the Z&dotbelow;ilal's hermeneutic, we will examine its systematization of the surahs and verses which contain these two tales as well as analyze Qut&dotbelow;b's argumentation, historical consciousness, hermeneutic, and personal judgement.

The notion of Divine trial, balā / ibtilā', occupies a significant position in the Islamic revelation; however, its multi-dimensional meanings and the wholly positive nature that the Qur'an seems to import has remained under-researched until now. Balā has traditionally been discussed in two main sources: the exegetical literature, and Muslim theodicean thought; both sources, however, deal with it in a narrow sense and fail to engage with it in its all-inclusive manner. Furthermore, due to the fact that balā is generally equated with adversity and human suffering, it is mainly discussed as an undesirable phenomenon which encompasses negative connotations, a misunderstanding that is far from the wholly positive and all-inclusive portrait of the concept of balā represented in the Qur'an. This study offers a critical analysis and re-examination of the balā / fitna narratives in the Qur'an. This is done by first providing a comprehensive typology of the Qur'anic verses which deal with this concept, followed by a historical review of the exegetical literature, an overview of balā in the lives of the prophets, balā from the Muslim mystical perspective, and finally balā in Muslim theodicy with special emphasis on al-Ghazālī’s notion of "the best of all possible worlds". The findings of this research demonstrate that balā is a multi-dimensional concept and it is charged with a wholly positive connotation; that it is not equated with human suffering, for its manifestation is both in adversity and prosperity; that it is not meant to punish the sinful, as all human beings, including the prophets, experience balā in good and bad. It is further concluded that the mainstream Qur’anic exegetical literature do not engage in an in-depth elucidation of this concept; rather, it is the Muslim mystical literature that elucidates on the entirely positive nature of balā and explains its importance within the creational structure of the universe, as well as its instrumentality in man’s spiritual development which accords with the overall picture of balā portrayed by the Qur’an.

The purpose of this thesis is to identify the reasons for Israeli and Palestinian religious objections to peaceful co-existence in a two-state solution to the conflict over the land between the Jordan River and Mediterranean Sea. Developing an understanding of the basic religious requirements and precedents, while consistently considering religious impact in politics, may help to open dialogue between Jewish Gush Emunim and Muslim Palestinian Hamas, strong opponents to land compromise. Arguments by Gush Emunim and Hamas from the two major religious works, the Jewish Tanakh and the Muslim Qur’an, and associated commentaries, the Jewish Talmud and Muslim Hadith, are compared and evaluated for religious insights into the disputed areas. Contemporary interpretations of each major writing and political objections based on religious argumentation create a strong context for modern conflict. The requirements and precedents for peace that come from religious texts also promote open dialogue. This thesis suggests ways to open dialogue between the Israeli and Palestinian cultures, comparing religious texts, interpretations, and concepts, in an effort to promote peaceful co-existence and build an effective strategic narrative.

This study is an endeavor to apply SFL to the Qurʾān. Its focus is to analyze the textual metafunction in some passages of Abraham’s story mentioned in four Suras (Q.6, 11, 15 and 19). The textual metafunction domain is the text internal relationships and the context in which it is produced. It does so by managing the linguistic resources of the ideational and interpersonal metafunctions that are reflected in the thematic, information and cohesive systems. The study examined principally two elements of this metafunction, i.e., the thematic structure (Theme-Rheme), and the cohesion system. As to the first, the text made use of the multiple types of the textual, interpersonal and topical themes. In the latter, the study showed the thematisation of the verbal group (process) in the declarative VS clause type, which represented the unmarked type of theme in the majority of the clauses; and within that the ‘saying’ verbs are prevalent, establishing a projection relation. The results showed that the paratactic relation between the projecting and projected clauses made possible the separate analysis of thematic structure of both clauses. Related to the thematisation of the verbal group is the presence of the Subject, through the verbal inflection, in different pronominal forms. Therefore, a reconsideration of theme limit is needed to reflect this fact of Arabic, and extends its range. The interrogative and imperatives clauses fit well the SFL theme considerations. The cohesion was partially analyzed focusing only on the reference as a grammatical cohesive device. The ties established by both the personal and demonstrative pronouns, as components of reference relation, hold the text parts together, contributing thus to its cohesion. To better understand the controversial issue of the Qurʾānic cohesion, we believe other devices such as ellipsis and conjunctions as well as the lexical devices (repetition for example) need to be examined. As the text unfolds in a context, the contextual factors were examined, in particular, the mode of discourse as being the element that correlates with, and activates, the textual meanings. In this regard, language represents the whole activity, and its role then is a constitutive. The mode orientation is more towards the tenor of the discourse than to the field of the discourse, reflecting more the interpersonal than the experiential meanings. Finally, the medium of the language is particular in that it combined both features of the spoken and the written. This study showed that the Qurʾānic Arabic, so different from other Arabic varieties, actually lent itself to SFL analysis. And a promising area to improve understanding the text would be the translational studies. An extensive research in Arabic Linguistic Tradition is required to get more insights regarding other alternatives of considering the Theme in the Qurʾānic Arabic. Finally, it should be remembered this is an old Semitic text (Arabic) that had been shaped and created within its own grammatical and rhetorical realms; and our study is but an approximation in terms of SFL.

This study addresses the riddle of al-Baqara’s internal organization, utilizing new insights from literary theory and Biblical Studies to identify the sura’s structure and unifying themes. It also explores the possible added value in approaching al-Baqara as a whole compositional unit, as opposed to a conglomeration of isolated verse-groups. The dissertation begins with a historical overview of coherence-related approaches, commencing with the classical naẓm- and munāsaba-discourses as observed in the writings of Jāḥiẓ, Bāqillānī, Biqā῾ī and others, and extending to the modern period and the work of scholars such as Amīn Aḥsan Iṣlāḥī, ῾Abd al-Muta῾āl al-Ṣa῾īdī, and Matthias Zahniser. This overview is followed by a discussion of methodology, locating this study within the reader-oriented, synchronic, intertextual approaches, and showing methodological parallels with Biblical Studies. A new reading framework for the sura is developed, utilizing in part some of the theories of the Russian literary theorist and philosopher, Mikhail Bakhtin. The sura’s structure is identified by means of analyzing its distinctive repetitions, a known structuring device in oral texts. Incremental inclusios, alternations and chiasms delineate al-Baqara’s compositional subunits. The overall structure of the sura emerges as chiastic, following the pattern ABC/B’C’A’/C’’B’’A’’, where A is a section having the character of a test, B a section containing instructions and C a story portraying primeval origins. The repetitions are of increasing length, the general escalating character of the devices focusing attention on the last panel (C’’B’’A’’). In a first reading, the central theme is identified by means of the sura’s Leitwort, a leading keyword distinguished by its special location, high concentration and even distribution within the sura. Reading the sura for what it reveals about the deity, the Leitwort, ‘guidance’, indicates a common theme of ‘God as guide’. In a second reading, the sura is read for its pedagogical content and the central theme becomes ‘first lesson in the new religion’. The added value in approaching the sura as a whole, as a totality, is in seeing how each theme is progressively developed and elaborated by every one of the sura’s various panels and how these themes hold the sura together as a unit.

This qualitative case study was to explore a elite Wushu Tai Chi Quan athlete-Jun Chih Chen, whose lived experiences on Wushu, includes how to prepare for competitions, training, mental stages during training and at match, and how to deal with stress. Therefore, the narrative study was carried out with itself. With this article, the author attempts to give account of the lived experiences, meanwhile reflection itself on Wushu sport at different life stages.

AbstractWhen the famous verse 4:34 is read all the way to the end and the ensuing verse 4:35 which continues the narrative is read together with it, the problematic phrase “strike them but not if they heed your counsel” is obviously revisiting the question of adultery discussed in Chap. 10.1007/978-3-030-83582-8_19, where a repentant unfaithful wife (or husband) is to be forgiven by society (25:68–71) and not flogged to cause shame even if there are witnesses to the fact. In other words, the whole of verse 4:34 is addressing society as a whole, the last part dealing specifically with adultery and not just any husband-wife conflict. Moreover in 4:35, God explicitly supports reconciliation between the couple if they so wish despite the wife’s infidelity, surely a move that would be contradictory if He had just told the husband to hit his wife!

The chapter analyzes teaching traditions among Muslim women in Bosnia and how Islamic knowledge is transmitted, embedded in practices such as prayers, Quran recitation, singing and teaching. A case is provided of some Sarajevo women’s recitation gathering (mukabela) at the end of Ramadan which included instructive speech of some length. A young preacher (vaiza) made use of the common genre elements for a Muslim sermon and moved with confidence between comments on the Quran, paraphrases of narratives from the hadith and moral stories set in the present. The vaiza’s legitimacy to speak in the mosque was based on her formal education, reputation of personal piety and knowledge of local prayer and song traditions. Hence the audience accepted the preacher’s authority to give ethical guidance and included her interpretations of contemporary Muslim life with their conceptions of national heritage.

This chapter, the conclusion to the book, summarizes its major findings, particularly the necessity for the qur’anic Golden Calf narrative in the Qur’an—and other narratives like it—to be carefully re-evaluated in the light of late antique approaches to biblical stories, particularly as they reflect the apologetic and polemical dynamics informing Jewish and Christian scriptural interpretation in that era. At the same time, scholars must consider the continuing engagements of various communities—Jews, Christians, and now Muslims as well—over questions of chosenness and covenant as they are reflected in the interpretation of both Bible and Qur’an in the centuries after the rise of Islam. Although the Qur’an must be understood as a product of its time and not viewed solely through the lens of later Muslim commentary, Muslim approaches to the narratives of the Bible reinterpreted in the Qur’an must be considered integral to the later development of the larger biblical tradition alongside the Qur’an itself.

In Chapter 9 I focus on the students of Al-Huda classes, both onsite and online. Most of the students who spoke to me were young adults—some married with children, some college students, and some professionals. Whether living in North America, Europe, or South Asia, they were drawn to Al-Huda for a variety of reasons, and all of them reported deriving strength from deepening their engagement with the Qur’an. Bilingual in English and a South Asian language, they were educated middle-class women discovering the Qur’an through Al-Huda classes. All of them had chosen to live a more orthoprax lifestyle in accordance with what they learned in the Al-Huda classes. But in order to succeed, I argue, they had to get their families’ support. They had to do da‘wa. In this chapter, I examine their life stories in light of the concepts of ‘precarity’ and gendered Islamophobia as articulated by Attiya Ahmad and Jasmin Zine, respectively.

This chapter examines the notions of “history” as they are presented and developed in the Qur’an. It critically reviews the notion that the Qur’an is ahistorical—that the Prophet stories and other narrative elements in the text do not show an understanding of or interest in history as such. Rather, it is argued, the text reveals a relationship to history that is quite varied, presenting vital and interesting reinterpretations of earlier narratives, both pagan and biblical, and a constant “conversation” with the notion of history at work in earlier traditions. This conversation reflects the formation of the community and the process of its development.

Islamic diaspora throughout the world has its own characteristics depending on cultural context in each region. Observing the characteristics of the entry process and the rise of Islam in Java in the past, Indonesia can be viewed significantly through a linguistic perspective. By focusing on the narratives of how Islam was constructed in Java by kiai, we will be able to understand that the pattern of the entry process and the rise of Islam in Java emerged through“language diplomacy.” There are various symbols which later became the symbol system in Islamic languages that were contextualized to Javanese language and knowledge systems. In other words, I see that language in this context is a symbol system. These symbols are a strategy of how Islam was “planted” and developed in Java. I will compare the symbol system of the language in the Quran as the Great Tradition of Islam with a symbol system on the narratives that a kiai expressed in Javanese society as the Little Tradition. By taking some narratives that the kiai gave to the Javanese Moslems in East Java region, this paper argues that the linguistic aspect in some narratives and Quran recitation which has the symbolic system of the language have an important role in planting and developing Islam in Java. This paper is based on ethnographic research-participant observation among Nahdlatul Ulama Muslim society in East Java, Indonesia and reviews Islamic narratives in society as an important unit of analysis.
