“No research without trained researchers” has become the mantra of the EU-funded Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) education and training projects. However, it is often hard to determine the type of training required at different stages of a scientist’s career. The situation is further complicated by the constantly changing environment, e.g. the growth of disruptive technologies, societal expectations of biomedical sciences, the greater need for multi-disciplinary collaborations, and conservative or changing regulatory requirements. This article summarises the experience from a series of five EMTRAIN Public Private Partnership PhD workshops that included both scientific and transferrable skill training. This is followed by an example of a recently developed training programme, including a competency profile, for translational research and medicines development; the C-COMEND teaching programme. The emphasis is on competencies as a new currency for continuing professional development. Finally, this paper describes what we consider to be the next steps required by the scientific community to address solutions to the current training challenges so that society can benefit from the innovations that only science can provide.

The article draws attention to the steady growth of the general trend of direct participation of individuals in financial transactions using electronic platforms. In particular, the article notes the increased interest in participating in operations in the Forex currency market. It is emphasized that relatively technically easy access to participation in financial transactions through the use of electronic platforms is currently a potential threat to financial security for the funds of participants in such transactions. This is a lack of professional training of most novice traders who voluntarily become participants in financial transactions. It is emphasized that stock exchange transactions on stock markets, purchase and sale of currency on electronic platforms, transactions with gold, etc. require, along with general, also special knowledge on certain specific areas of economic development and financial relations. Also, psychological and behavioral factors begin to "work" in such relationships. It is noted that only from the beginning of 2019 in Ukraine at the legislative level began a systematic regulation of the structure of the foreign exchange market and the procedure for trading in foreign currency. The article states that it is time to pay attention to digitalized trading activities from a professional point of view and start teaching in educational institutions the relevant disciplines for training and acquiring students' general skills in trade and financial transactions on electronic platforms. From this point of view, the article provides an introductory review of the Forex currency market, outlines the principles of its operation, pays more attention to trading strategies. As a result, the following conclusions are made that, first, the foreign exchange market is highly profitable provided that its trends are mastered; secondly, the foreign exchange market is high risk; it is necessary to understand not only in many terms, but, especially, in processes and situations in the financial-globalized world to confidently use charts of change of cost of currencies for profit; thirdly, there are many different strategies that can be used successfully in the currency market, from the simplest - for amateurs, to more complex - for experienced traders, but none of them will fit perfectly for a particular psychotype, professional level and amount of time a person - trader can pay trade. Of particular value, according to the authors, is the following conclusion: a trader creates his own strategy, which provides a greater likelihood of earnings in the international Forex market. Currency trader is a creative activity, but an activity based on mastering a large base of professional knowledge.

AbstractThis paper tests the influential hypothesis that irrational traders will be driven out of financial markets by trading losses. The paper’s main finding is that overconfident currency dealers are not driven out of the market. Dealers with extensive experience are neither more nor less overconfident than their junior colleagues. We set the stage for this investigation by providing evidence that currency dealers display two forms of overconfidence: They underestimate uncertainty, and they overestimate their professional success. This is notable because one might have expected the opposite: currency dealers face strong incentives for accuracy, they have access to comprehensive information, and they have extensive experience.

Engaging Queensland primary teachers in professional associations can be a challenge, particularly for subject-specific associations. Professional associations are recognised providers of professional learning. By not being involved in professional associations primary teachers are missing potential quality professional learning opportunities that can impact the results of their students. The purpose of the research is twofold: Firstly, to provide a thorough understanding of the current context in order to assist professional associations who wish to change from their current level of primary teacher engagement; and secondly, to contribute to the literature in the area of professional learning for primary teachers within professional associations. Using a three part research design, interviews of primary teachers and focus groups of professional association participants and executives were conducted and themed to examine the current context of engagement. Force field analysis was used to provide the framework to identify the driving and restraining forces for primary teacher engagement in professional learning through professional associations. Communities of practice and professional learning communities were specifically examined as potential models for professional associations to consider. The outcome is a diagrammatic framework outlining the current context of primary teacher engagement, specifically the driving and restraining forces of primary teacher engagement with professional associations. This research also identifies considerations for professional associations wishing to change their level of primary teacher engagement. The results of this research show that there are key themes that provide maximum impact if wishing to increase engagement of primary teachers in professional associations. However the implications of this lies with professional associations and their alignment between intent and practice dedicated to this change.

This thesis describes and analyzes the Navy's service short courses available to medical professionals. The description covers course content (subjects being taught), describes contact hours (time a class is taught), and evaluates the depth and breadth of content. The information from each course is compared to the needs of a medical treatment facility (MTF) manager, as determined by the Naval Postgraduate School 'Needs Assessment'. This examination shows that many Navy medical professional service short courses cover parts of the knowledge and skills needed to manage a medical treatment facility. The courses examined focus mainly on leadership and management skills. In order to more accurately describe and analyze these courses, obtaining more detailed information, observing the courses being taught, and interviewing course instructors is recommended.

Updating ones professional skills, continuing education and the ability to work successfully in multidisciplinary environments have become increasingly critical to staying competitive in the face of rapid advances in technology and the current trends toward outsourcing of engineering jobs. Mechanical engineers, specifically, are continuously confronted with staying current with proficiency in CAD and FEA tools, evolving multiplicity of design materials and increased sophistication of design components, as are their capabilities in communicating with both engineers and non-engineers. A survey conducted of engineering alumni of the California State University, Fullerton indicates how its graduates pursue the complex task of staying current and the degree of successes achieved in this never ending endeavor. The survey evaluated ways and means of these efforts and the employers’ attitudes and support, or lack thereof, towards such efforts, experiences of working in multidisciplinary and multi national teams and attitudes towards community service. Relationships between continued education and career are examined. Implications of the findings to engineers, education and industry are discussed. Roles that educational institutions and professional societies play in this process are carefully examined and discussed.

There is a substantial body of work arguing that sense of belonging, connection and interaction is a critical element for students to persist and succeed in learning online. However online students frequently report feeling isolated and disconnected from teachers, peers, and the institution. This paper explores the use of regular, informal video messages to facilitate these connections in a fully online course We argue that such videos can build teacher presence, provide opportunities for sharing feedback, guidance, emerging developments and professional insights, and contribute to a dynamic and engaging learning environment. We share preliminary feedback and reflections on the use of such videos and discuss the next steps in measuring the impact of these videos on student learning and satisfaction.

Educators and employers have traditionally worked together to identify engineering skills which require ongoing updating and upgrading in order to avoid obsolescence. That, along with the need to work successfully in multidisciplinary environments, has become increasingly critical in staying competitive in the face of rapidly changing technology and current trends toward outsourcing of engineering jobs. Mechanical engineers, specifically, are continuously confronted with the requirement to maintain proficiency in CAD and FEA tools, evolving multiplicity of design materials and fabrication processes and increased sophistication of design components. Another aspect of a successful engineer entails the ability to communicate with both engineers and non-engineers who frequently are in positions to approve or cancel projects which may affect success and/or survival of the company where engineers work. A recent survey was conducted of engineering alumni of the mechanical engineering program at California State University, Fullerton spanning a period of close to four decades to assess if and how these graduates managed to stay current and the degree of success achieved in this continuing endeavor. The survey evaluated ways and means of these efforts and the employers’ attitudes and support, or lack thereof, towards such efforts. Also the surveys examined alumni experiences of working in multidisciplinary and multinational teams. Relationships between continued education and success in pursuit of the career of alumni were examined. Implications of these findings to engineers, academic institutions and industry were discussed with particular interest in the roles that educational institutions and professional societies play in the career of engineers.

"Professional identity is the concept that describes how we perceive ourselves in our occupational context and how we communicate it to others. Professional identity is not static, but fluid. It is strongly influenced by how we see ourselves, how we perceive others and how we are viewed by society. Professional values are inherent characteristics of every profession and are part of the professional identity. Personal values are a powerful tool that influences our lives. They are the standards that each of us defines in order to live according to them and often influence our attitude and behavior. The profession of nurse/ midwives is defined by the values that each practitioner experiences every day in relation to his profession and each patient with whom he interacts. The professionalism of nursing profession requires that the nurses, midwifes to be able to provide quality health care services adapted to the society healthy needs, no matter age, social position, gender, political and sexual orientation or other differentiation criteria. In this way they will be able to increase the population’s health level. The Order of Nurses and Midwives of Romania implemented POLMED project which objective was to develop a set of fundamental professional values for nurses and midwives, for the benefit of the medical-patient staff relationship. The project aimed at developing an analysis of European public policies on the values of nursing and midwifery, conducting a survey of the current situation in Romania on the values of nursing and midwifery by involvement of 200 nationally selected nurses and midwives, as well as the training of 45 nurses and midwives in the design and evaluation of public policies. As a result, the ability of medical personnel to meet the citizen’s need to have quality health system is directly linked first and foremost to the reform of the educational system of professional training, which internalizes a values system centered on professionalism, empathy towards the patient and cooperation with patients and other categories of professionals in the medical system. The paper work is divide in two parts, the first part presents a survey in order to develop a set of fundamental professional values for nurses and midwives, and the second part presents the way these values were transposed in the nursing education. The paper presents a study on the ways of transposing the professional identity and profession values into the nursing education."

The skills regarding the building profession have undergone various changes during the evolution in the building industry over the past century. Due to the advancements in the building sector, the inherent disciplines have developed a defined set of skills. This study explores the relevant skills in the building industry, comparing the current skills to the evolving skills to ensure the continued relevance of professionals in the futuristic building industry. In order to fulfil the aim of the study, a descriptive methodology was utilised through a quantitative approach. Data for the research was gathered through a survey of building industry firms in South Africa. The findings of this study highlight the current skills and the evolving skills in the building industry. Interlinkages are also explored between the current and evolving skills. It is pertinent to note that the multi-disciplinary nature of the building industry requires professionals to be equipped with valuable skills applicable and relevant in the professional world. In conclusion, It is pertinent to note that current, evolving, and future skills may transform from time to time. This makes it highly important for building professionals to update their skills from time to time in order to remain relevant in the digitally transformed 21st-century futuristic building industry.

The provision of the pharmaceutical service is the basic designation of the pharmacy activities as a public health care facility and is a correlate of the subjective right to health care guaranteed under the Polish Constitution. The provision of the pharmaceutical service remains within the scope of the profession of a pharmacist as a profession of public trust, which is also a regulated profession. Taking into account the need to ensure the highest level of implementation of the right to health care, the legal status of a pharmacist as a participant in the pharmacy market should be subject to special legal protection. The assessment of the existing legal status in this respect remains justified by both the subjective distinction between categories of entrepreneurs who hold a permit to operate a generally accessible pharmacy, as well as the legislative process on principles of fulfilling the pharmacist's professional obligations included in the draft Act on the profession of pharmacist. The purpose of this article is to assess the indicated legal conditions undertaken both on the basis of the existing legal status and proposed statutory solutions.

The future growth and prosperity of an organisation or in this case of the professional discipline of quantity surveying in South Africa have strong links with effective succes-sion planning. The next generation will be measured on how well they will be able to build on the successes and stature of the preceding generations. The success and prosperi-ty that the South Africa quantity surveying profession will enjoy during the next decade or more rests on the shoulders of the current generation of new entrants and young profes-sionals recently established in the profession. This younger generation of professionals also belongs to the age group often referred to as millennials.Millennials are people born between 1980 – 2000 and who are therefore currently be-tween 21 to 41 years of age. In 2020, approximately 60% of all registered quantity sur-veyors in South Africa were millennials. This cohort will become the future leaders and visionaries to carry the profession of quantity surveying into the future.Contrasting to previous generations the millennials have grown up and were educated and trained in the electronic and digital age. Their differing roots may carry with it chal-lenges that may hamper effective communication with the current leadership of the pro-fession. The better the current leaders are able to know and understand the millennials in their fold, the more likely a successfull passing of the batten to the next generation will become. This study is based on a questionnaire from the Association of South African Quantity Surveyors, assisted by the University of Pretoria. The questionnaire was distributed on a national bases to all the South African quantity surveyors on the data base. The study will evaluate various aspects that describe the profile of South African mil-lennial quantity surveyors. The aspects that will be compared include the age, gender, race, and locational spread of the millenails who participated in the survey. Additional aspects such as their academic qualifications, nationality, registration status with the Council of South African Quantity Surveyors, and their length of term of current em-ployment will be used to provide a reasonably detailed description of the younger genera-tion of South African quantity surveyors.The above information will be of value to the Association of South African Quantity Surveyors, to the management of quantity surveying firms and also to institutions such as universities that offer accredited academic programmes for the training of quantity sur-veyors. The findings can also be shared with quantity surveying professions across inter-national borders to compare against the profiles of their millennial cohorts of quantity surveyors.

The article outlines the problem of combining professional and personal qualities in the choir conductor. Research gaps in the profession of choir conductor are outlined. We established that the art of conducting, and choral performance as its component, currently requires professionally trained personnel, who have an active life position and are able to provide a creative approach to choral singing. It was found that conducting should be interpreted as a creative process characterized by a step-by-step structure and a combination of analysis and comprehension of the choral score, its artistic interpretation, which allows embodying the formed musical image in the real choral sound. It was found that the conductor’s professional qualities are based on the conductor’s individual style or his “creative method”. It is established that the emotional sphere of the conductor is the result of a combination of qualities that will allow the conductor and the choir to demonstrate a bright and convincing revelation of the originality of texture, expressive timbre colors of numerous choral scores, and a rich palette of nuances.

Abstract While we know that poor decisions during concept screening can lead to great expenses including redesign costs, production postponement, and even product failure, little is known about what factors influence professional concept screening. Previous research in this area has mostly been conducted with students or used hypothetical design challenges with professionals. This is problematic because such research methods are based on challengeable assumptions leaving out the risks and consequences that professionals face in their daily work. Hence, the purpose of the current study was to investigate the process of professionals making screening decisions in situ and identify the impact of the perceived properties of ideas (i.e., riskiness, originality, and feasibility) and the role of the professionals (idea generators versus executives) in this process. Specifically, a mixed method in-situ study was conducted in a small electromechanical company which included shadowing a research and development team from the conceptual stage to a final pitch meeting to senior executives. In addition, surveys and interviews were conducted to identify what factors were impacting concept screening. The results showed both idea generators and executives were able to distinguish and move ideas with relatively high market potential forward and avoided taking risks during concept screening. However, the idea generators did not show any preferences on the originality or feasibility of the ideas, while the executives preferred to invest in ideas with high feasibility. The findings of this study drew a distinction between professional design studies solving real design problems in a naturalistic, collocated team environment and those in a laboratory setting and added to the understanding of factors that influence the decisions made during professional concept screening. They also provide a much-needed insight into how engineering design professionals screen ideas.

Results of the research: the developed model of use of mobile ICT as tools of learning Computer Sciences to future professionals in Engineering Pedagogy is based on the competency-based, person-centered and systemic approaches considering principles of vocational education, general didactic principles, principles of Computer Science learning, and principles of mobile learning. It also takes into account current conditions and trends of mobile ICT development. The model comprises four blocks: the purpose-oriented block, the content-technological block, the diagnostic block and the result-oriented block. According to the model, the learning content of Computer Sciences consists of 5 main units: 1) Fundamentals of Computer Science; 2) Architecture of Modern Computers; 3) Fundamentals of Algorithmization and Programming; 4) Software of Computing Systems; 5) Computer Technologies in the Professional Activity of Engineer-pedagogues.

The article concerns the issue of e-learning tools implementation, including the Customs Learning and Knowledge Community electronic platform designed by the World Customs Organization and the Trade Facilitation Implementation Guide case studies collected by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, into the self-education process of current government employees (within in-service training) and future public officers (within master’s programs) connected with international trade transactions. The authors give a description of the content and characteristical features of existing e-learning instruments related to training of professionals in Customs and trade fields as well as of certain tasks developed by the authors. The efficiency of the abovementioned e-learning tools has been experimentally proved in the paper, which has shown that these tools promote the growth of the professional competence of government officers and give a great opportunity for them to be involved in life-long learning to acquire various professional knowledge and skills.

Review question / Objective: The purpose of the current review was to systematically and critically evaluate the use RPE-based methods in professional volleyball. Condition being studied: Monitoring athlete load is better understood through sub-dividing load into two groups – internal and external. Internal training load (ITL) refers to the physiological stress that a training session induces in the athlete. Rating of perceived exertion (RPE) has become the most common method of monitoring ITL. The RPE method was originally developed by Borg, and Foster et al. created a simple technique to quantify ITL using a modification of this scale. This technique is known as the session RPE (sRPE) and is derived by multiplying the overall RPE obtained at the end of a training session (or match), using the Borg Category-Ratio 10 scale (BORG-CR10) by the total duration (in minutes) of the training session, to provide a modified training impulse (TRIMP) score.

The early years of a teacher’s career are crucial to the formation of their professional identity—a complex process of reconciling their personal attributes with the demands of the profession. This study explores the identity formation of novice teachers in Indonesia and seeks to identify the various aspects that shape this process. Specifically, we examine how Indonesia’s current teacher policy landscape affects novice teachers’ perspectives on teaching and their profession. Through a longitudinal bimonthly diary study conducted over two years, we find that the novice teachers’ stories about their identity development revolve around five themes: initial motivation to enter the profession, beliefs about teaching and the teaching profession, satisfaction with working conditions, perceptions about major challenges during the early years, and commitment to the teaching profession and career aspiration. Our findings show that individual teachers’ personal attributes do influence the formation of their identities as teachers, but teacher policies and working conditions influence this process to a greater extent. Without support, novice teachers struggle to navigate the tension between their ideals, limited resources, and inconsistent teacher policies. These findings suggest it is necessary to redefine what it means to be a teacher by characterising the observable qualities of good teaching, linking them to student learning, and rectifying teacher policies in the Indonesian education system to be coherent with these characteristics.

The article provides a brief analysis of the current state of the study of cloud technologies by future software engineers at foreign and Ukrainian universities. The author experience in the application of cloud technologies in the training of future software engineers in Ukraine is presented. The application of cloud business automation systems, online services to monitor the implementation of the software projects, Google services for collaboration, planning and productivity while studying professional disciplines and carrying out diploma projects is described. Based on the survey conducted at Stackoverflow, the state of application of cloud technologies by software engineers around the world has been analyzed. The cloud technologies that are not studied at the analyzed universities of Ukraine and those that are not popular with software developers in the world, but studied at Ukrainian universities by future software engineers are outlined. Conclusions are made on the modernization of training programs for future software engineers. Topics for the study of cloud technologies by future software engineers in the content of professional disciplines are proposed.

In this article, the authors propose that California’s Seal of Biliteracy for high school seniors can serve as an exemplar to advocate for the continued development of bilingual skills in university, graduate-level students—and counseling students in particular. Citing literature that points to the need for linguistic diversity among counselors in school and community agencies, the authors describe the efforts taken by the Counseling Program in the School of Education at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in partnership with LMU’s Center for Equity for English Learners to address the need. Their pilot of a Certificate of Bilingual Counseling in Fieldwork (CBC-F) involved the development and testing of proficiency rubrics that adhered to current standards for teaching foreign languages and simultaneously measured professional competencies in counseling. Results of the CBC-F pilot with five female Latina students in the counseling program at LMU in the spring of 2017 appeared promising and were described in detail. These findings have implications for preparing and certifying professionals in other fields with linguistic and cultural competencies in response to current demographic shifts.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) can provide solutions to many challenges of asset management, such as missing data, incompatible software, and an unclear business process. However, current implementation of BIM in infrastructure projects has only considers limited factors, such as technology application and digital information delivery, while issues of system compatibility and information needs are still missing. Different aspects of a business are interdependent and an incompatible development of various factors might result in different levels of BIM implementation or even project failure. Comprehensive research is needed to explore the key factors and challenges of BIM implementation in infrastructure projects. This study conducted interviews and surveys with key stakeholders of infrastructure projects to explore the challenges and potential solutions of BIM implementation. Interviews were conducted with 37 professionals and surveys were conducted with 102 professional stakeholders, including owners, designers, contractors, and software vendors. Four main factors, challenges, and potential solutions were identified from content analysis of the interviews and further validated by the surveys. These factors include process factor (when), technology factor (how), people factor (who), and information factor (what). Corresponding solutions are proposed to refine the current workflow and practices.
