Purpose – The importance of entrepreneurship education and the lack of studies at the vocational level, have created a need to develop a model of entrepreneurship learning. The purpose of this paper is to determine what vocational college students learn about entrepreneurship from working in a small enterprise, how they learn it and what role the teacher has in the learning process. Design/methodology/approach – The data used are drawn from discussions between eight students (aged 16-18), where they assessed and developed their business activities conducted over the course of a year. Using qualitative data collection and analysis methods, content connected with entrepreneurship was examined to provide information about activities they undertook and how the learning process occurred. Findings – The findings indicate that learning in a small enterprise is a continuous process, where content, activities and process are intertwined. The core of learning is reflection-in-action, to develop entrepreneurial skills and behaviour. Practical implications – This paper may offer a means of applying a small business learning model to entrepreneurship learning. The results can benefit teachers planning entrepreneurship learning. Originality/value – This paper contributes to the understanding of student learning in small enterprises by empirically examining what learning takes place and how.

Abstract In today’s competitive environment, to identify and correctly adjust the individual components of the business model is an important strategic device for every entrepreneur. This paper (preliminary study) deals with different types of business models applied to the sector of small and medium-size farms in the Czech Republic. The main objective was to identify and categorize activities undertaken by Czech farmers into homogeneous clusters and offer recommendations on possible business model modification. The research was based on data from the Farm Accountancy Data Network (hereafter FADN). The principal component analysis and cluster analysis were carried out as part of the assessment, under which farms are categorized into homogeneous groups. The results showed that the farms surveyed can be categorized according to similar economic characteristics, production plans, and implementation processes into three basic clusters. The first business model is elaborated for the classic field production and various kinds of vegetable or livestock production, the second model for the special crop and livestock production, and the third one for the animal production. The use of FADN data and the fact that most Czech agricultural companies are of small- and medium-size should be taken into account as limiting factors of the study.

The grouper hatchery now has been widely developed, usually purchased eggs from the business that produces hybrid grouper eggs in accordance with the amount as needed. Eggs grouper that is currently in demand are eggs grouper cantang that is a cross-breed between female tiger grouper (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus) and male giant grouper (Epinephelus lanceolatus) and cantik that is a cross-breed between female tiger grouper and male grouper batik (Epinephelus Microdon). The purpose of this research is to get information about hybrid egg production activities, marketing and economics. The study was conducted in Buleleng regency in January-December 2015, data was taken from five hatchery or business that produces only hybrid grouper egg that is one business (A) in the village of Banyuasri, Buleleng district; Three businesses (B); (C) and (D) in the village of Penyabangan, Gerokgak district and the effort (E) in the village of Banyupoh, Gerokgak district, the data were analyzed descriptively. The results of the five businesses may produce as many eggs as five to eight times a year by the amount that can be marketed 24,200,000 - 44,500,000 eggs. The article discusses the features of diversification of small businesses, discloses its advantages for solving the problem of rationalizing activities. The factors of production and economic activity of the enterprise are considered, which are predictors of diversification and can be used in management as indicators. Diversification of the enterprise is one of the main ways of successful survival of business entities in the modern realities of competition. Nowadays, many organizations are successfully diversifying their activities, flexibly adapting to market conditions and increasing their financial well-being. The algorithm of the process of implementing the related diversification of the production activity of a small enterprise is given. The process of diversification of activities is highly costly, and for small enterprises, a related form of diversification aimed at expanding the range of products is promising. It is scientifically substantiated that this form of diversification is less risky, and requires the involvement of fewer resources of a small enterprise, at the same time, it provides an increase in the effectiveness of activities in a relatively short time interval.

Анотація:
A smooth entrepreneurial activity requires adequate cash flows. This need is quantified due to the special position of primary agricultural production. The required volume, structure, quality and availability of financial resources creates economic framework for decision making and managing entrepreneurial activities. The results show the lack of total capital in connection to the needs of investment processes and ensuring operational activities in the selected enterprises. Both legal entities (agricultural cooperatives and business enterprises) decreased the total volume of assets and total liabilities in 2004. The economic result was improved in both types of legal entities, in the case of cooperatives by 3 525 SKK/ha a.l. and in business companies by 1 840 SKK/ha a.l. Receivables and payables also decreased, cash flows from business activities have increased. There is a decrease in the balances of the existing loans and new loans were provided by commercial banks for enterprises in primary agricultural production.

Mitra kegiatan yaitu Usaha Donat Mutiara dan Usaha Donat Citarasa di Kabupaten Deli Serdang. Kegiatan dilaksanakan selama 8 bulan tahun 2016. Metode Pelaksanaan adalah pendidikan, produksi, pelatihan manajemen usaha, penggunaan alat dan pendampingan. Hasil kegiatan yang diperoleh mitra mampu memproduksi donat bakar dengan berbagai kreasi. Peralatan yang diberikan kepada mitra dapat mempercepat produksi mitra. Pelatihan manajemen usaha yang diberikan dapat memperbaiki pembukuan keuangan mitra. Implementation methods are education, production, business management training, tool usage and assistance. The results of activities obtained by the partners are able to produce donuts with a variety of fruits creations. Equipment provided to partners can accelerate partner production. The business management training provided can improve the financial bookkeeping of partners. The article analyzes the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on business activities in Ukraine and the world and its financial security. The analysis showed that the economy of Ukraine, like most countries in the world, has suffered significant losses from the introduction of anti-epidemic restrictions on business activities, which manifested itself in falling GDP, industrial production index, investment activity. Due to the temporary or complete cessation of business, the unemployment rate has increased significantly. The pandemic crisis also harmed enterprises' financial results, which declined significantly in all economic activities, especially in industry, transport, temporary accommodation, and catering, where the share of unprofitable enterprises reaches 73%. Thus, the problem of ensuring the financial security of business becomes relevant. The work aims to develop methodological approaches to assessing the impact of the pandemic crisis on businesses' financial security and to identify effective ways to ensure such security. The research used scientific abstraction, comparative and systematic analysis and synthesis, systematization, and logical generalization. It was determined that small and medium-sized businesses were most affected by the pandemic, where more than 60% of entrepreneurs had a strong negative impact. Large businesses suffered less, but they also suffered significant losses due to declining business activity and demand in domestic and foreign markets. The pandemic had the least impact on agriculture, which suffered the least losses, primarily due to the slight impact of restrictions on this business's activities. The paper systematized the risks arising from the pandemic crisis factors and identified their manifestations and financial consequences for the business. Studies have shown that such effects manifest themselves in the form of total or partial loss of profits, problems with debt repayment, reduced financial stability, liquidity, increased receivables, increased costs of anti-epidemic measures, and so on. Thus, the procedure for assessing the business's financial security is to take into account all the factors that shape the financial position of businesses during a pandemic crisis.

The cake making business is a home-based business that is widely practiced by people in Pekanbaru. The large demand for cakes is a promising business opportunity. The conditions of intense competition require cake-making businesses to be active in making breakthroughs and innovations, so that their products remain in demand by consumers. The cake-making business as a small business also experiences various obstacles, including low turnover and production capacity, as well as weakness in the marketing aspect, especially in distribution channels for its products. This community service activity is carried out on cake-making entrepreneurs in West Sidomulyo Pekanbaru. This activity aims: 1) cake-producing entrepreneurs can run their business professionally, creatively and innovatively, 2) expand the market for their products, 3) increase their production capacity, 4) increase their expertise and skills in making sponge cakes. Activities in this service include training in marketing management, entrepreneurship, and preparation of financial reports). Based on the implementation and evaluation of the results of activities, it can be concluded that cake-producing entrepreneurs can run their business professionally, creatively and innovatively, and there is an increase in production capacity due to increased demand from customers.

Досліджується механізм функціонування системи транспортної логістики на підприємствах. Проаналізовано майновий стан підприємства, фінансові показники, економічну ефективність діяльності ТОВ”ТОМ-ІнвстБуд”. Здійснено моделювання логістичної діяльності підприємства, визначено мінімальну вартість доставки продукції за допомогою транспортних задах, методом багато до багатьох. Eco-design is relatively new and fast growing field of research due to its vital importance to the manufacturing industry and its related environmental issues such as reducing waste, and CO2 emission. A major EU programme relating to the environment is the waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive. The (WEEE) directive specifies ten categories and a voltage range which is up to 1.000 volts AC or 1.500volts DC. The developed framework came for the implementation of Eco-design principles that helps to take into account the adaption of the (WEEE) directive and the restriction of hazard substances (RoHS) used in electrical and electronic equipments. As a result of identify gaps and needs such as a lack of a comprehensive Eco-design framework and the need to integrate it to the normal business operation. In this research the PDCA framework for Eco-design and WEEE directive will be discussed. The framework will encompass all of the Eco-design¿s implementation and integration factors and activities such as WEEE and RoHS directives, Eco-design management, Environmental legislations, Eco-design tools and considerations. The literature review covers the topic of Eco-design¿s related issues, and WEEE and RoHS directives rules. Based on comprehensive questionnaire survey of Eco-design, WEEE and RoHS issues and activities among a sample of environmentally aware companies, statistical analysis is carried out using SPSS software. Then the findings of the survey triangulated with the findings of the literature review formed the basis of the design and implementation plan of the proposed framework

L’amélioration de la performance du secteur médico-social nécessite des outils de pilotage aptes à donner rapidement et de façon synthétique une vision claire et quantifiée des activités réalisées en direction des usagers. Or, il n’existe pas aujourd’hui d’outils satisfaisants permettant un pilotage des activités au niveau de chaque structure, mais également au niveau de l'organisme gestionnaire. L’objet du travail de recherche est de concevoir des outils pour l’aide au pilotage et au suivi des activités dans le secteur médico-social permettant d’améliorer la vision actuelle du secteur médico-social trop cloisonné. En relation étroite avec Ressourcial (ancien département du système d’information de la Fondation OVE), ce travail s’inscrit dans le cadre d’une thèse CIFRE et constitue l'une des premières thèses des sciences de l'ingénieur qui s'attaquent aux problèmes d'organisation dans le secteur médico-social. Le premier enjeu scientifique de cette recherche est de proposer une démarche formelle et structurée de suivi des activités réalisées dans ces établissements. L’approche proposée devra être capable de rendre compte d’une typologie d’activités au spectre très large ; activités réalisées par des établissements ayant des modes de fonctionnements, et des cultures métiers, fortement hétérogènes. Sur ce volet, le verrou scientifique de ce travail est celui l’agrégation sur un même modèle, de modes de fonctionnement intrinsèquement hétérogènes. Le second enjeu scientifique de cette thèse est celui du développement d’approches innovantes pour l’analyse de ces données de suivi et pour l’aide au management de ces structures à partir de ces mêmes données
Improving the performance of medico-social sector requires management tools capable of quickly and synthetically provide a clear and quantified view of activities towards the users. Unfortunally, today does not exist a satisfactory tools to control activities in each structure, as neither at the level of the managing organization. The object of the research work is to develop tools to aid management and monitoring of activities in the medico-social sector in order to improve the current vision of the medico-social sector too compartmentalized. Closely related to Ressourcial (former information system department of OVE Foundation), this work is part of a CIFRE thesis and is one of the first theses of engineering sciences that address to organizational problems in the medical-social sector. The first scientific challenge of this research is to propose a formal and structured approach to monitoring activities in these institutions. The proposed approach should be able to realize a typology of activities in a very broad spectrum; activities performed by institutions with operating modes, and business cultures, highly heterogeneous. On this aspect, the scientist lock of this work is that the aggregation on the same model, intrinsically heterogeneous operating modes. The second scientific challenge of this thesis is the development of innovative approaches for analyzing these monitoring data and to aid management of these structures from the same data

Сформовано типологію аутсорсингу на основі організаційних і якісних класифікаційних ознак, запропоновано теоретико-методичні підходи до прийняття рішень щодо управління аутсорсингом на підприємстві. Запропоновано теоретико-методичні положення оцінки ступеня внутрішньої інтеграції бізнес-процесів на промислових підприємствах. Розраховані та проаналізовані показники ступеня інтеграції низки підприємств машинобудування України. В роботі доопрацьовано методичний підхід до оцінки бізнес-процесів на основі матричного аналізу для визначення доцільного типу аутсорсингу окремого бізнес-процесу в загальній системі. Обґрунтовано організаційно-економічні основи впровадження аутсорсингу на підприємстві, сформовано методичний підхід до вибору контрагента аутсорсингу та наведено результати практичного застосування розроблених методичних положень на підприємствах машинобудування України.

Bakgrund: Dagens marknader har med tiden tenderat att bli mer globala vilket i sin tur har ökat konkurrensen mellan företag. Detta har inneburit att många industriorganisationer har behövt förändra sig för att vara konkurrenskraftiga på marknaden. Ett koncept som idag genomsyrar många företag är lean vilket bygger på att maximera användandet av sina resurser, eliminera slöserier och skapa en effektivare tillverkning. Genom att arbeta med lean kan företag uppnå snabbare genomloppstider. Syfte: Syftet med studien är att kartlägga Press Kogyos propellerprocess för att kunna identifiera icke-värdeadderande aktiviteter i processen. Vidare kommer studien bidra Press Kogyo med förslag gällande hur en effektivare material- och produktionsstyrning kan reducera genomloppstiden i propellerprocessen. För att studien ska uppnå teoretisk relevans är ytterligare ett syfte med studien att bidra med teori kring hur tillverkande företag, med en funktionell layout, kan reducera de nackdelar som finns med layouten med effektivare material- och produktionsstyrning. Genomförande: Studien har delats upp i tre forskningsfrågor. De två första forskningsfrågorna var specifikt inriktade mot det studerade företaget medan den tredje forskningsfrågan var mer generellt ställd mot tillverkande företag med funktionell layout. Studien har genomförts som en fallstudie och präglats av kvalitativa forskningsmetoder. Empiriska data har samlats in genom intervjuer, observationer samt en fokusgrupp. För första forskningsfrågan skapades processkartor och VSM-kartor. Dessa i samband med diverse intervjuer låg till grund för att identifiera icke-värdeadderande aktiviteter/slöserier i propellerprocessen vilka påverkade genomloppstiden. För forskningsfråga två applicerades teori kring material-och För tillverkande industriföretag kan en reducering av genomloppstid generera diverse fördelar. Några av dessa fördelar är: minskat antal produkter i arbete, bättre kvalité, minskade kostnader, bättre prognoser, ökad flexibilitet samt minskad ledtid gentemot kund. Press Kogyo har under en längre period upplevt en problematik kring en av deras processer. Problematiken har legat i att de inte vetat om vilka icke- värdeadderade aktiviteter som finns i processen samt hur de påverkar genomloppstiden.   produktionsstyrning i syfte att reducera de icke-värdeadderande aktiviteterna/slöserier som identifierats och följaktligen reducera genomloppstider i processen. Gällande forskningsfråga tre genomfördes intervjuer med det studerade företaget och ett annat tillverkande företag med funktionell layout. Författarna ämnade att genom dessa intervjuer besvara hur tillverkande företag med en funktionell layout kan reducera de nackdelar som finns med den layouten med hjälp av effektiv material- och produktionsstyrning. Slutsats: I studien identifierades sju slöserier där väntan ansågs vara det slöseri vilket mest påverkade genomloppstiden i propellerprocessen. För att eliminera alla slöserier och framförallt väntan applicerades teori kring material- och produktionsstyrning med fokus på production activity control (PAC). Den teori vilken användes skapade också en teoretisk modell vilken kan vara en bra grund när företag med funktionell layout vill effektivisera sin planering. Vissa delar av den teoretiska modellen användes också senare i studien där den användes för att reducera de nackdelar vilka kan finnas med en funktionell layout.
Background: Today's markets have over time tended to become more global, which in turn has increased competition between companies. This has meant that many industry organizations have had to change in order to be competitive in the market. A concept that today permeates many companies is the lean practice, which is based on maximizing the use of resources, eliminating waste, and creating more efficient production. By working with lean, companies can achieve faster throughput time. For manufacturing industrial companies, a reduction in throughput time can generate various benefits. Some of these advantages are: reduced number of products in work, better quality, reduced costs, better forecasts, increased flexibility and reduced lead time towards customers.Press Kogyo has for a long period experienced problems with one of their processes. The main problem has been that they do not know what non-value-added activities/waste that can be found in the process and how these activitiesaffect the total throughput time of the process. Purpose: The purpose of the study is to map Press Kogyo's propeller process in order to be able to identify non-value-adding activities in the process. Furthermore, the study will provide Press Kogyo with proposals regarding how more efficient material and production control can reduce the throughput time in the propeller process. In order for the study to achieve theoretical relevance, another purpose of the study is to contribute with theories about how manufacturing companies, with a functional layout, can reduce the disadvantages of the layout with more efficient material and production control. Methodology: The study has been divided into three research questions. The first two research questions were specifically aimed at Press Kogyo, while the third research question was more generally directed at manufacturing companies with a functional layout. The study was conducted as a case study and was characterized by qualitative research methods. Empirical data has been collected through interviews, observations, and a focus group. For the first research question, process maps and VSM maps were created. This together with various interviews created the foundation for identifying non-value-adding activities/waste in the propeller process which affected the throughput time. For research question two, theory of material and production control was applied in order to reduce the non-value-adding activities/waste and consequently reduce throughput time in the process. Regarding research question three, interviews were conducted with Press Kogyo and another manufacturing company with a functional layout. The authors intended to, through these interviews, find answers to how manufacturing companies with a functional layout can reduce the disadvantages of the layout with the help of efficient material and production control. Conclusions: In the study, seven wastes were identified where “wait” was considered to be the waste that affected throughput time the most in the propeller process. To eliminate all waste and specifically the waste “wait”, methods and theories regarding material and production control was applied with a focus on production activity control (PAC). All the different theories that was used also created a theoretical model which can be a good basis for planning when companies with a functional layout want to find ways tostreamline their planning. Some parts of the theoretical model were also used later in the study where it was used to reduce the disadvantages that may exist with a functional layout

Business planning is not a new phenomenon in Ukraine's economy. It is an integral tool of the business environment used to create a new business or project. The business plan describes the main aspects of the future project or enterprise, analyzes all the problems it may face, and provides ways to solve them. It is also the main document on the basis of which partners, investors and creditors provide the necessary investments. In a market economy, such a plan should be a planned program to study the market and competitors, risk, production and economic, financial activities and sales and ensure 8 the adaptation of the firm to new conditions. This approach involves the possibility and need to develop local business plans for individual projects, products (goods) and services. In crisis conditions, the business plan of the enterprise is designed, above all, to solve the problem of improving its financial condition. The concept of the system of internal business planning is to create a system of management and analysis of all areas of financial and economic activity of the enterprise, which meet the following requirements: ⎯ Development of a functional model of the enterprise with the allocation of basic business units and management functions; ⎯ Interconnectedness of a complex of receptions in horizontal and vertical section; ⎯ Reliability and timeliness of analytical information obtained as a result of the enterprise; ⎯ Qualitative analysis and detection of deviations as a result of plan-factor comparison; ⎯ Flexible and fast scheme of adaptation to changes of internal and external factors. Thus, business planning is a universal tool that can be used with different target settings. The theoretical and practical fundamentals of enterprise business planning were investigated and summarized; thereupon the best ways to improve the effectiveness of drafting the business plans were developed. The theoretical fundamentals of enterprise business planning were investigated, and their essential characteristics were unified. The methodological principles of drafting the business plan were summarized, and the practice of business planning at LLC “LKT 2016” was analyzed. The proposals for business-planning improvement of the company under investigation in the context of adjusting to dynamic market changes were developed.
Бізнес-планування – не нове явище в економіці України. Це невід’ємний інструмент бізнес-середовища, що використовується з метою створення нового підприємства чи проекту. Бізнес-план описує основні аспекти майбутнього проекту чи підприємства, аналізує всі проблеми, з якими воно може зіштовхнутись, і передбачає способи їх вирішення. А також є основним документом, на підставі якого партнери, інвестори та кредитори надають необхідні інвестиції. В умовах ринкової економіки подібний план повинен бути плановою програмою вивчення ринку і конкурентів, ризикової, виробничо-господарської, фінансової діяльності і продажів та забезпечувати адаптацію діяльності фірми до нових умов. Такого роду підхід передбачає можливість і необхідність розробки локальних бізнес-планів по окремим проектам, продуктів (товарів) і послуг. У кризових же умовах бізнес-план підприємства покликаний, перш за все, вирішувати завдання поліпшення його фінансового стану. Концептуальною ідеєю системи внутрішньофірмового бізнес-планування є створення системи управління та аналізу усіх сфер фінансово-економічної діяльності підприємства, які відповідають таким вимогам: ⎯ Розробка функціональної моделі підприємства з виділенням основних бізнес-одиниць і функцій управління; ⎯ Взаємопов'язаність комплексу прийомів в горизонтальному і вертикальному розрізі; ⎯ Достовірність і своєчасність аналітичної інформації, одержуваної в результаті роботи підприємства; 7 ⎯ Якісний аналіз і виявлення відхилень в результаті план-факторного зіставлення; ⎯ Гнучка і швидкодіюча схема адаптації до зміни внутрішніх і зовнішніх факторів. Таким чином, бізнес-планування є універсальними інструментом, що може застосовуватисяз різними цільовими установками. Отже, у випускній кваліфікаційній роботі було проведено дослідження та узагальнення теоретичних і практичних основ бізнес-планування на підприємстві та сформовано на цій основі оптимальні шляхи підвищення ефективності розробки бізнес - планів. Досліджено теоретичні основи бізнес-планування на підприємстві та узагальнено їх сутнісні характеристики. Узагальнено методичні засади складання і оформлення бізнес-плану та проведено аналіз практики бізнес-планування на підприємстві ТОВ «ЛКТ 2016». Розроблені пропозиції щодо удосконалення практики бізнес-планування у діяльності досліджуваного підприємства у контекстів адаптації до динамічних ринкових змін.

The domestic production activities deduction (DPAD) was created to incentivize U.S. firms to produce within the U.S. and thereby increase domestic investing. I test whether the DPAD is a large enough incentive for firms to invest in the U.S. I used a simulation, and I found that without the DPAD incentive the firms never chose to produce within the U.S. With the DPAD incentive, only firms with relatively low costs of labor will produce domestically. These firms are rare and will not have a large impact on domestic investment and these firms increasing their production in the U.S. will not have a large impact on our employment rates. Therefore, the U.S. government is losing out on tax revenue without a large benefit to the economy. I also analyzed the DPAD at the state level. Currently 25 states allow the DPAD, but since it is a broad domestic deduction, these states might not be gaining the benefit of increased investing in their own state. Through a separate simulation and ANOVA tests on archival data, I found that states do not benefit from the DPAD.

AbstractGroundnut productions have been declining in Mali in spite of several new improved varieties being released, the key problem being inadequacy of the seed supply system. To solve this problem, Kolokani MSP was established in 2012 and reorganized with support from TL III in 2015 to include more stakeholders in the groundnut value chain—farmers particularly women, farmer associations, cooperative societies, seed producers, agro-dealers, grain traders, processors, research and extension. Four new varieties Fleur11, ICGV 86124, ICGV 86015, and ICGV 86024 were supplied to the platform for FPVS and among them two, Fleur 11 and ICGV 86124 were preferred for their high yields and large grain size under farmer conditions. Through training of trainers, the different members of the platform reached 1246 farmers among them 928 women with improved groundnut seed production, aflatoxin management, seed business plans, and small-scale mechanization. A total 47 FPVS, 50 Demonstrations, and three multi-locational variety trials were conducted annually from 2016 to 2018. Kolokani platform have played an important role in groundnut value chain by producing and marketing 85 tons groundnut certified seed of these varieties annually for farmers. This is expected to stop the national productivity decline while improving platform members’ livelihoods and nutrition status.

AbstractThe historical experience of almost all economies shows that the share of the agriculture and allied sectors in total employment as well as in their national income falls with progress in economic development. This decline does not, however, diminish the need to address various challenges confronting the agriculture sector, which is a core concern in both developed and developing countries. Agriculture, after all, provides food for the very survival of human life. More importantly, this dependence goes beyond mere survival to adequate nutrition for an active and healthy life. The other significance of agriculture is its role in supporting and improving rural livelihoods. The kind of agriculture practised determines the maintenance of the agroecological balance, biodiversity, sustainable use of land, water and other natural resources, apart from ensuring social security. Agriculture also supplies the raw material that is the foundation for economic activities ranging from industrial production to trade and commerce. Agriculture is both a victim of and contributor to climate change and, therefore, it must adapt to the consequences of this change and reduce its own emissions of greenhouse gases. The challenges and opportunities of the agriculture sector are dynamic; some are common for all countries while some are country specific.

AbstractThere is a growing interest in addressing global waste problems by applying innovative ideas and philosophies such as zero-waste and circular economy. As a new sustainability paradigm, zero-waste challenges the common assumption of waste as a valueless and unavoidable by-product created at the end of the product’s life phase. Instead, it acknowledges that waste is a “misallocated resource” or “resource in transition”; produced during the intermediate phases of production and consumption activities. Waste should be recirculated to production and consumption processes. Therefore, zero waste means no “waste” would be wasted under the circular economy system. This chapter presents various examples of zero-waste practices derived from family, community, business, and city levels. In addition, zero-waste implementation strategies and actions are also discussed in the chapter. Despite its potential, the visionary zero-waste goals cannot be achieved without responsible global stewardship and active citizens’ role.

Purpose – the purpose of the article is to reveal and to assess the factors of the industry’s competitiveness. Research methodology – to achieve the aim of the article the total factor productivity, return on equity and comparative analysis methods are used. Findings – the most productive sectors in Lithuania are mining and quarrying; electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply; water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities; manufacturing. It follows, that companies at mentioned sectors are working productively and purposefully use its equity. In Latvia, the most productive industry is financial and insurance activities, where earns in comparison with the total shareholder’s equity invested in it are greater. Research limitations – in this article the following research limitations are applied: here are analyzed the data of the 2007–2017 y. y. using total factor productivity and return on equity methods. Also here should be included the space limitation (here are analyzed the Latvia and Lithuania cases). Practical implications – the improvement of the industry’s competitiveness is possible due to the targeted management of the main productivity factors: labour and capital. Originality/Value – productivity is based on the maintenance of the industry’s productivity due to the proper use of the production factors to create value-added. Also, are analyzed the relation between total factor productivity and return on equity

Abstract The task of integrated planning, as one of the main tools to improve the operational efficiency of production activities of oil and gas production operators, is the most relevant. Due to the high intensity, today all operators emphasize the importance of automating the integrated planning process. An integrated plan means combining, ranking and possible combination, as well as timely updating the order of implementation of activities presented in separate functional plans, for which various services are responsible. At the same time, a functional plan is a group of activities united in its specificity. Examples of functional plans are well intervention (TR), well workover (KR), PP (routine maintenance), Research, OTM (organizational -technical measures), PPR (scheduled preventive work), VNS (commissioning of new wells). The goal of integrated planning is to execute the mining company's business plan in the most efficient way in terms of economic performance within the existing constraints. The constraints can be various aspects, such as the limited number of crews of the required specialization and special equipment for the activities, the need to move resources to the location of the activity taking into account the seasonality and types of transport, a strict sequence of operations within one activity, technological constraints associated with the inability to simultaneously conduct various activities at one cluster site, restrictions on the utilization of associated petroleum gas. Integrated planning distinguishes between planning horizons. As a rule, the horizon does not exceed one year and is designed to assess the feasibility of the company's business plan and justify capital and operating costs. Annual planning must take into account both targeted (named, assigned to a specific well or field site) and unaddressed (called "virtual") activities based on past year statistics. Monthly and 90-day plans are updated on a monthly basis and are more detailed and accurate than the annual plan, containing only targeted activities. Monthly planning clarifies the feasibility of the business plan in terms of production, budget and other criteria. In addition to the approved annual, monthly and 90-day plan, an operational (working) plan is formed, which is updated on a daily basis or upon request. As a rule, the operational plan is formed for a two-week planning horizon. The traditional integrated planning approach has its drawbacks and opportunities for improvement. The essence of the traditional approach of integrated planning is that different operational services, such as Geological Service, Well Intervention Service, Pipeline Maintenance Service, Chief Power Engineer, Chief Engineer, etc., annually and monthly submit a list of activities for inclusion in the annual, monthly (90-day) production program, after which the integrated planner combines all activities, combining them if possible, trying to achieve the targets as closely as possible, such as The main drawbacks of the traditional approach are the high intensity of forming an integrated plan, as well as its static nature. In fact, the approved integrated plan is actual no more than two days, as the life of oil and gas field is usually very dynamic - there are always unscheduled activities, there are always emergencies during crews, shifts in the start and end dates of already started crews, etc. All of the above aspects indicate that the integrated plan must be dynamic and must be constantly updated (Repin et al., 2018). The OIS UFAM integrated scheduling solution presented in this article provides extensive automation capabilities for the integrated scheduling process.

The Women’s Handicrafts Production Cooperative is a success story that has transformed the lives of its members, who had been finding it hard to obtain employment. They are now focused on creating their own enterprise. Started in 2018, today the cooperative’s membership has expanded tenfold and created employment opportunities by using the principles of social solidarity economy and collective business models. The Youth Participation and Employment (YPE) project in Egypt, developed in partnership with the Better Life Association for Community Development (BLACD), provided technical training to the cooperative in handicrafts production, as well as life skills training, to empower the workers to continue despite all the societal pressure for them to give up. Assistance from BLACD came in when it was needed. Particularly during the COVID-19 crisis, with the tourism market shut down, BLACD has provided crucial technical advice and support, supporting the cooperative to brainstorm and identify several parallel income-generating activities. This case study contains some testimonies from members of the cooperative on how their collective strength was harnessed to create employment and income.

Sunflower commercialisation in Singida Region, Tanzania has been successful. The successes include increased oilseed production, expanding processing capacity and declining rural poverty. Policies and efforts by development agents to promote sunflower commercialisation have increased the number of actors and service providers. Accumulation from sunflower and other enterprises, including livestock, have not only improved livelihoods, but also contributed to household economic diversity. This paper examines the interactions between activities involved in sunflower production and other livelihood strategies. For example, the paper examines local dynamics in policy and business contexts that have shaped livelihood options available and people’s choices of which option they undertake, and the corresponding outcomes, and reasons for such commercialisation trajectories. The study aims to inform local, regional, and national strategies, to pursue more inclusive and sustainable agriculture development, and widen options and pathways for men and women in Mkalama and Iramba districts of Singida Region.

“Sustainable prosperity” denotes an economy that generates stable and equitable growth for a large and growing middle class. From the 1940s into the 1970s, the United States appeared to be on a trajectory of sustainable prosperity, especially for white-male members of the U.S. labor force. Since the 1980s, however, an increasing proportion of the U.S labor force has experienced unstable employment and inequitable income, while growing numbers of the business firms upon which they rely for employment have generated anemic productivity growth. Stable and equitable growth requires innovative enterprise. The essence of innovative enterprise is investment in productive capabilities that can generate higher-quality, lower-cost goods and services than those previously available. The innovative enterprise tends to be a business firm—a unit of strategic control that, by selling products, must make profits over time to survive. In a modern society, however, business firms are not alone in making investments in the productive capabilities required to generate innovative goods and services. Household units and government agencies also make investments in productive capabilities upon which business firms rely for their own investment activities. When they work in a harmonious fashion, these three types of organizations—household units, government agencies, and business firms—constitute “the investment triad.” The Biden administration’s Build Back Better agenda to restore sustainable prosperity in the United States focuses on investment in productive capabilities by two of the three types of organizations in the triad: government agencies, implementing the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and household units, implementing the yet-to-be-passed American Families Act. Absent, however, is a policy agenda to encourage and enable investment in innovation by business firms. This gaping lacuna is particularly problematic because many of the largest industrial corporations in the United States place a far higher priority on distributing the contents of the corporate treasury to shareholders in the form of cash dividends and stock buybacks for the sake of higher stock yields than on investing in the productive capabilities of their workforces for the sake of innovation. Based on analyzes of the “financialization” of major U.S. business corporations, I argue that, unless Build Back Better includes an effective policy agenda to encourage and enable corporate investment in innovation, the Biden administration’s program for attaining stable and equitable growth will fail. Drawing on the experience of the U.S. economy over the past seven decades, I summarize how the United States moved toward stable and equitable growth from the late 1940s through the 1970s under a “retain-and-reinvest” resource-allocation regime at major U.S. business firms. Companies retained a substantial portion of their profits to reinvest in productive capabilities, including those of career employees. In contrast, since the early 1980s, under a “downsize-and-distribute” corporate resource-allocation regime, unstable employment, inequitable income, and sagging productivity have characterized the U.S. economy. In transition from retain-and-reinvest to downsize-and-distribute, many of the largest, most powerful corporations have adopted a “dominate-and-distribute” resource-allocation regime: Based on the innovative capabilities that they have previously developed, these companies dominate market segments of their industries but prioritize shareholders in corporate resource allocation. The practice of open-market share repurchases—aka stock buybacks—at major U.S. business corporations has been central to the dominate-and-distribute and downsize-and-distribute regimes. Since the mid-1980s, stock buybacks have become the prime mode for the legalized looting of the business corporation. I call this looting process “predatory value extraction” and contend that it is the fundamental cause of the increasing concentration of income among the richest household units and the erosion of middle-class employment opportunities for most other Americans. I conclude the paper by outlining a policy framework that could stop the looting of the business corporation and put in place social institutions that support sustainable prosperity. The agenda includes a ban on stock buybacks done as open-market repurchases, radical changes in incentives for senior corporate executives, representation of workers and taxpayers as directors on corporate boards, reform of the tax system to reward innovation and penalize financialization, and, guided by the investment-triad framework, government programs to support “collective and cumulative careers” of members of the U.S. labor force. Sustained investment in human capabilities by the investment triad, including business firms, would make it possible for an ever-increasing portion of the U.S. labor force to engage in the productive careers that underpin upward socioeconomic mobility, which would be manifested by a growing, robust, and hopeful American middle class.
