The compliance of the canine trachea under positive and negative transmural pressures was measured in an in-vivo preparation. The average compliance values found in eight animals were 11.7×10−6 (dynes/cm2)−1 at zero transmural pressure and 4.9 and 6.9×10−6 (dynes/cm2)−1 at −20 and +20×103 dynes/cm2 transmural pressure, respectively. These compliances were significantly lower than those measured by others in excised preparations. Stress relaxation was noted at all pressure levels.

Background. Split bowel preparation is the best regimen for colonoscopy. However, the same-day regimen can represent a valid alternative, but its use is limited by concerns about its cleansing ability, and to date, no convincing data support its use for routine colonoscopies. Aim. To evaluate the cleansing, compliance, and adverse event rates of the same-day compared to the split regimen. Results. A systematic literature search and meta-analysis was performed. Ten studies were included for a total of 1807 patients (880 in the same-day group and 927 in the split group). Overall, 85.3% patients in the same-day group vs. 86.3% in the split group had an adequate cleansing. Compliance was high for both, although patients were more compliant with the split than with the same-day prep (89.7% for same-day vs. 96.6% for split regimen). Sleep disturbance was more frequent in the split group, while nausea and vomit were more frequent in the same-day group. In the subgroup analysis, polyethylene glycol obtained a better cleansing rate when given as a split dose, with similar compliance and adverse events rates with both regimens. Conclusion. Split and same-day regimens are both useful in bowel cleaning before colonoscopy with a different pattern of adverse events and better compliance for split preparations. Endoscopists can consider the same-day preparation as a valid alternative, especially when the split preparation does not fit the patients’ needs.

Objective. To analyze the effect of calcium carbonate preparations on malnutrition in preschool children. Methods. A total of 100 preschool malnourished children treated in our hospital from February 2020 to February 2021 were recruited and assigned to a calcium carbonate preparation group or calcium lactate preparation group via the random number table method, with 50 cases in each group. Outcome measures included bone content, malnutrition symptom scores, nutritional indices, urine calcium, patient compliance, and treatment satisfaction. Results. After treatment, the calcium carbonate preparation group showed higher content of right heel bone and bone density versus the calcium lactate preparation group ( P < 0.05 ). After treatment, children given calcium carbonate preparation were associated with lower scores of malnutrition symptoms and higher serum calcium, ferritin, transferrin, prealbumin, and albumin levels versus those receiving calcium lactate preparation ( P < 0.05 ). Children in the calcium carbonate preparation group showed higher urine calcium levels than those in the calcium lactate preparation group after treatment (t = 17.640, 45.131, 18.168, 19.565, P < 0.05 ). A higher compliance (96.00%) and treatment satisfaction (98.00%) of children in the calcium carbonate preparation group was observed versus those in the calcium lactate preparation group (62.00%, 66.00%) (Z = 3.521, Z = 3.447, P < 0.05 ). Conclusion. The calcium carbonate preparations show more enrichment in the amelioration of malnutrition in preschool children versus calcium lactate preparations.

Objectives: This study aims at measuring compliance to iron supplements because iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is worldwide problem among pregnant women, so Iron supplements are advised usually in once daily regimen but compliance to iron supplements therapy is a major problem due to possible side effects and long-term duration of therapy. Study Design: Retrospective questionnaire-based study. Setting: Mola Bakhsh Hospitals, Sargodha, Pakistan, Period: From February to December, 2018. Material & Methods: This study was design to check compliance to iron supplementation during pregnancy and various factors related to directly and indirectly noncompliance to iron supplementation. A total of 267 pregnant females were recruited in study. Data was collected through a questionnaire translated in local language. On this basis sample population was divided into three groups compliant, partially compliant and non-compliant major factors associated with the prevalence of anemia and non-compliance to iron supplements were education, side effects, financial issues, forgetfulness, personal beliefs, disliking of pharmaceutical preparation etc. Results: After thorough analysis it was found that iron deficiency anemia is prevalent in about 64% of females in the third trimester. Improvement in Hb level in third trimester compared to 1st trimester was taken as parameter for measurement of compliance. Conclusion: side effects due these iron supplements and certain human habits act as hurdle to fight anemia during pregnancy and to eradicate these hurdles certain steps like education of women about anemia, its causes, health implication and imparting nutritional education with special emphasis to improve dietary intake of proteins and iron.

Background: Inadequate bowel preparation can result in missed pathological lesions and cancellation of procedures thereby increasing the cost and delay in the diagnosis. Objectives: Thes aim of the study was to identify the potential predictors of inadequate bowel preparation using 2 liters of polyethylene glycol solution. Methodology: A prospective study was done, which included 138 consecutive patients who underwent colonoscopy over a period of 6 months. Patient’s demographics, medical history, and preparation quality were collected and compared. Factors associated with inadequate bowel preparation were identified by univariate statistics and multivariate logistical regression analysis. Results: Out of 138 colonoscopy procedure, 119 (86.2%) preparations were adequate and 19 (13.8%) were inadequate. The mean age of the patient was 52.62 (SD ±10.51) years. Out of which, 82 (59.4%) were male and 56 (40.6%) were female. In the multivariate regression analysis, constipation [adjusted OR 8.55, 95% CI 1.79-41.67] and non-compliance [adjusted OR 58.82, 95% CI 5.99-500] were independently associated with inadequate bowel preparation. Conclusion: Constipation, non-compliance, overweight, neurological disorders like stroke, dementia and age >60 years were associated with inadequate bowel preparation. Early identification of patients with a high risk of inadequate preparation can be salvaged with change in bowel cleaning strategy.

Abstract One hundred seventy-seven tracts in South Carolina were evaluated for compliance with site preparation Best Management Practices (BMPs). South Carolina Forestry Commission foresters evaluated compliance with BMPs in each of four categories of site preparation: (1) mechanical treatments, (2) herbicide applications, (3) prescribed burning, and (4) minor drainage. In addition, each site was evaluated for overall BMP compliance, which was based on the level of BMP compliance and evidence of off-site water quality impacts. Overall BMP compliance was 86.4%. Compliance was highest for mechanical (92.0%) and herbicide (88.3%) site preparation treatments and lowest for minor drainage (76.9%) and prescribed burning (70.4%). Eleven variables were analyzed to determine their influence on BMP compliance. Four variables were found to be significantly related to BMP compliance: (1)physiographic region, (2)proximity to streams, (3)percent slope, and (4) terrain type. The four significant variables described the increased risk involved in site preparing land that is in close proximity to streams. SYNOPSIS There is a rich literature associated with the dichotomous decision to hire/not-hire tax preparation services. There is also some research assigning motivation to the decision to hire tax preparation services. However, no research has examined the underlying demographics and key perceptions of clients that do hire tax preparation professionals to determine which are associated with specific motivations to hire. We focus on the four most common motivations to hire a preparer found in extant literature (i.e., saving money, saving time, legal compliance, and protection from the IRS). Using survey data, we perform exploratory analysis using MANCOVA to discover what client demographics and perceptions underlie each motivation. Our most noteworthy finding is that client perceptions of tax advocacy are positively associated with all four focal motivations to hire. Our results also suggest that female clients, more than male clients, choose tax preparers with a desire to save time and to be legally compliant. In addition, taxpayers with children tend to be more concerned with legal compliance. We also find that taxpayers with relatively complex returns are less likely to hire a preparer to provide a legally compliant return and to gain protection from the IRS. Since the Institute of Medicine highlighted the devastating impact of medical errors in their seminal report, “To Err is Human” (2000), efforts have been underway to improve patient safety. A portion of medical errors are due to medication errors, and a large portion of these can be attributed to inadequate laboratory monitoring. In this thesis, I attempt to address this small but important corner of this patient safety endeavor. Why are patients not getting their laboratory monitoring tests? Do they fail to complete them or do doctors not order the tests in the first place? Which prescribers and which patients are least likely to do what is needed for testing to happen and what interventions would be most promising? To address these questions, I conducted a systematic review of existing interventions. I then proceeded with three aims: 1) To identify reasons that patients give for missing monitoring tests; 2) To identify patient and provider factors associated with monitoring test ordering; and 3) To identify patient and provider factors associated with completion of ordered testing. To achieve these aims, I worked with patients and data at the Fallon Clinic. For aim 1, I conducted a qualitative analysis of their reasons for missing tests as well as reporting completion and ordering rates. For aims 2 and 3, I used electronic medical record data and conducted a regression with patient and provider characteristics as covariates to identify factors contributing to test ordering and completion. Interviews revealed that patients had few barriers to completion, with forgetting being the most common reason for missing a test. The quantitative studies showed that: older patients with more interactions with the health care system were more likely to have tests ordered and were more likely to complete them; providers who more frequently prescribe a drug were more likely to order testing for it; and drug-test combinations that were particularly dangerous, indicated by a black box warning, were more likely to have appropriate ordering, though for these combinations, primary care providers were less likely to order tests appropriately, and patients were less likely to complete tests. Taken together, my work can inform future interventions in laboratory monitoring and patient safety.

This thesis proposes a propensity and opportunity model for tax practitioner preparation compliance. The model integrates the existing empirical tax practitioner compliance knowledge into a theoretical framework through an adaptation of Nagin and Paternoster’s (1993) individual differences and rational choice framework. The premise of this thesis is that preparation non-compliance occurs when there is both a will (propensity) and a way (opportunity). One of the most compelling findings was discovered through the development of the preparation compliance variable. Rather than a unitary construct with simple linear relationships with other variables, it was found that practitioners form distinct and very different clusters of preparation compliance. Four practitioner clusters were revealed. The Duteous cluster of practitioners exhibited the most virtuous approach to preparation practice and had the highest level of compliance within their clients’ tax returns. The Contingent cluster reported an intermediate commitment to compliant practice and client return compliance that was contingent on transaction visibility. The Aggressive cluster held the least compliant approach to preparation practice and reported the highest level of non-compliance within their clients’ returns. The Outlier cluster was an extreme version of the Aggressive pattern of results. While these groups clearly represent different levels of compliance (depicted in this thesis as the teardrop of practitioner compliance with a compliant base (Duteous) and non-compliant tip (Outliers)), gone was the assumption of compliance linearity. In its place was the knowledge that the practitioner population is not homogeneous, but instead comprises distinct practitioner types. Support was found for the propensity and opportunity model in the prediction of practitioner teardrop cluster membership. Both the higher-order constructs of propensity and opportunity were significant in the prediction of cluster membership at each ascending level of the teardrop. However, the features of propensity and opportunity that differentiated the lower teardrop practitioners were different to those that differentiated the upper teardrop practitioners. In differentiating between the Duteous and Contingent clusters, the propensity construct was characterised by an appetite for risk and power (lower for the Duteous), coupled with stronger commitment to business best practice and to the identity of being a competent practitioner among the Duteous. Opportunity was characterised by a perceived likelihood of success in preparing non-compliant returns and higher ambiguity of clients’ tax affairs, coupled with the perception of lower likelihood of detection for non-compliance. Different aspects of propensity and opportunity assumed importance in differentiating between the Contingent and Aggressive clusters. Propensity was characterised by a lack of preparation ethics and opportunity by ambiguity of clients’ tax affairs. These results have important implications for the regulation of tax practice. Tax authorities must recognise that there are multiple distinct groups of practitioners who hold different propensities and perceive different opportunities for non-compliance. Thus, the drivers and obstacles found for the population as a whole will not uniformly apply to sub-groups within that population. As such, the teardrop clusters require tailored regulatory strategy for optimal preparation compliance.

Background: There is strong level I evidence that in most patients, mechanical bowel preparation (MBP) is not required. Despite this, physician behaviour has been slow to change in favour of omitting preoperative MBP. Methods: A knowledge translation strategy including: guideline development, consensus, education by opinion leaders, audit and feedback and reminder cards, was used in this study. Results: Overall, 81.1% of patients in the “before” arm and 88.4% in the “after” arm received MBP in compliance with the guideline (p=0.038). Normal diet use was compliant with the guideline in 45.6% of the patients in the “before” arm and 55.8% in the “after” arm (p=0.080). The use of enemas was compliant with the guideline in 88.5% of “before” patients and 94.2% of “after” patients (p<0.001). Conclusions: The results of this study reveal that a tailored, multi-faceted knowledge translation strategy can be used to change surgeon behavior in this clinical scenario.

A research report submitted to the Faculty of Humanities, University of the Witwatersrand, in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in the field of Information Communication Technology Policy and Regulation MA (ICTPR). May 2018
While South Africa passed the Protection of Private Information (POPI) Act in 2013, it has not been fully enforced. Consequently there is only a basic understanding of the effect of preparation to comply with the Protection of Personal Information (POPI) Act on the organisation, staff and cost anticipated for the compliance effort. This study delves into these aspects to build a picture of various factors that are pertinent in preparation to comply. This study is exploratory due to the Act being relatively new and not fully enforced yet. It is qualitative in nature, specifically employing a constructivist lens, and gathering opinions and feelings of respondents to gain insights on the research question posed. The tool for data collection was formal semi-structured interviews that allowed for all interviewees to be asked the same questions and for flexibility to drill down into responses to gain deeper insight. The analytical framework combines elements from two ISO standards - 19600 & 17799 (now 27002) and the OECD’s Compliance Cost Assessment (CCA) framework. The retrospective effect of the Act was determined to be a risk in preparation for compliance particularly the conditions for lawful processing of information as currently held information would need to comply with the Act as well as new information being collected going forward. Compliance with legal requirements works hand in hand with corporate governance. The King IV codes are an example of corporate governance standards in South Africa and have bearing on data protection and data governance and suggest that it be on the agenda of the Board of an organisation. While the codes of governance are detailed and good practise by many accounts they are not legally binding and as such the POPI Act can be seen to be the legal instrument to ensure a minimum standard of protection across the board. A unique aspect of the POPI Act is pertinent to organisations in that juristic person’s privacy is protected by the Act. Various reasons are given for this, but the analysis determined that the most plausible is that this is due to the constitution. How this is done could be determined by a future study into the matter. Governance and organisational theory are traversed also. Compliance with legislation is central to these. The Act stands to affects the structure of organisations and spur change. The study also proposes a model for compliance.

The monograph is devoted to a comprehensive analysis of the environmental sustainability control system of economic entities, both internal (internal control services) and external (state supervision (control) and audit). Effective control of the environmental sustainability of economic entities carried out by audit organizations and internal control units in cooperation with state supervision (control) and audit of nature users is carried out in order to verify the compliance of the nature of their environmental activities, products and environmental management systems with current legislation, standards, rules, requirements in the field of environmental protection and to confirm the reliability of their reporting. Confirming the reliability of the reporting of economic entities, environmental supervisors are able to conduct an independent assessment of the environmental sustainability and effectiveness of the environmental activities of the audited organizations, issue their proposals and recommendations for making informed decisions by various stakeholders. The interaction of audit organizations with the internal control (audit) services of enterprises and state supervision (control) and audit bodies will contribute to the timely preparation of reliable accounting and consolidated financial statements by enterprises and increase the efficiency of their environmental activities. It is intended for researchers, students, postgraduates and undergraduates, entrepreneurs, managers and anyone interested in the problems of environmental sustainability control of economic entities.

The Coast Guard is an organization committed to safeguarding the marine environment, that requires specialized personnel. Therefore, it is necessary to integrate the "basic" preparation, with "specialist" training in compliance with the high standards of a Q.M.S. of training, which uses teaching methods advanced, classroom and lessons, case studies, but also practice in the field. The latter methodology plays an important role since learning by doing, even more than theory, guarantees the effectiveness of learning, emotional involvement and the formation of experiential memory of learners.

AbstractTo grant more plausibility to the theoretical argument, Martin-Russu includes a second case study in her empirical analysis: an inquiry into Romania’s nature conservation reform and the framework regulating the protection of environmentally significant habitats and species. The evaluation of the legislative performance of the Romanian political elite in the field of nature conservation shows a questionable use of procedures, but this time coupled with a far higher level of responsibility and responsivity to societal concerns.The chapter reveals a reality at odds with the expectation that limited capacities lead to non-compliance; it shows how the lack of institutional capacities led, through the involvement of civil society actors, to a gradual improvement of EU-driven reforms. Martin-Russu provides a detailed account of how the expansion of protected areas in preparation for EU membership generated an increased need for their effective management, which translated into a legislative solution that allowed civil society organizations and the scientific community to assume responsibility for the administration of protected areas on an equal footing with the government. This, Martin-Russu argues, allowed citizens to pursue their interests through the actions and reactions of civil society, promoting the latter’s growth and gradually strengthening its voice.

Prompted by growing accreditation, assessment, and accountability measures, higher education institutions must provide evidence of faculty compliance with requirements that are tied to professional development. This is as true for community colleges as well as for four-year institutions. External and internal pressures for continuous improvement in teaching necessitates institutional commitment to understanding faculty perceptions and acceptance of high-quality professional development. Community colleges need to gain faculty acceptance of and participation in professional development in order to achieve fidelity to institutional instructional goals and initiatives. This chapter investigates community college faculty buy-in and support for professional development and considers cogent and relevant literature related to faculty professional development within the contemporary American community college setting.

That major includes the excipients, method of preparation, dose, delivery route, chemical and biological properties, drug-drug interaction, drug-body interaction, patient compliance, modifications in lipid based nano-vectors, polymer-mediated delivery systems, conjugate delivery systems, and others. In conclusion, by the end of this chapter, the authors are able to explain a robust mode of delivering active constituents more safely and economically to the target site by showing maximum bioavailability.

Flipped learning is an instructional model with core features of pre-class learning followed by in- class practice of knowledge through active and collaborative learning. However, non-compliance with pre-class activities is a commonly cited challenge in flipped learning, where a lack of student engagement leads to insufficient pre-class preparation, diminishing flipped learning’s intended benefits significantly as the students will then not participate well in the in-class activities. It lends consideration to the potential obstacles and solutions in increasing students’ engagement in pre-class learning, paving the way to pre-class learning compliance to achieve the full potential of flipped learning in improving students’ learning outcomes. This study uses systematic literature review with qualitative content analysis to identify three main areas, namely technological, pedagogical, and student perceptions, to instil optimal conditions to promote pre-class engagement and preparation.

March 2021, a 12-month-old infant was brought to the HPS East Zone Little Jonh, in the capital of the State of Amazonas, Brazil, where she was admitted with fever, vomiting, intense prostration, little acceptance of breast milk, difficulty in walking, associated with left-facing strabismus and neck stiffness. At admission, the main author performed a lumbar puncture, and serological tests on the CSF to identify the causative agent were referred to a reference laboratory, which suggested that they be referred to the Central Laboratory - LACEN for suspecting the presence of agent Angionsytrongylis Canyonensis. Although, the identification of the causative agent is difficult to be detected and confirmed, this case report shows us the importance of the clinical laboratory in the identification of Eosinophilic Meningitis. The sub-detection of eosinophils in the CSF helps to underestimate the prevalence of eosinophilic meningitis. Thus, CSF analysis, slide preparation, sediment staining, as well as knowledge about the importance of adequate leukocyte differentiation in CSF are extremely important, to properly conduct the final diagnosis of the disease and prevent possible endemicity. Southern Natural Gas Company (Southern), an El Paso Company, used BioMonitors to ensure full environmental compliance with the regulatory conditions associated with the construction of the Cypress Pipeline Project. The 167-mile Cypress Pipeline originates near Savannah, Georgia, and terminates west of Jacksonville, Florida. In preparation for construction of this project, Southern engaged in extensive consultation and negotiation with numerous federal, state, and local regulatory agencies. It became apparent during the consultation process that Southern would need a highly skilled biologist on-site during construction to fulfill the onerous conditions required by these agencies. Furthermore, specific state water quality permit conditions contained frequent sampling and reporting requirements that required specially-certified personnel. For these reasons, Southern used two BioMonitors (qualified on-site biologists with construction expertise) during construction who were dedicated to uphold the specialized environmental compliance program for the project. Herein, we illustrate this creative method for successfully negotiating contentious environmental issues and fully complying with the specialized environmental compliance conditions that frequently stem from sensitive agency consultation and intricate permit stipulations.

The U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Licensing (EM-24), certifies the regulatory safety compliance of shipping containers for radioactive materials through a program of technical reviews and confirmatory analyses of Safety Analysis Reports for Packagings (SARPs). Recent initiatives undertaken to improve the speed and efficiency of the certification process include the following: 1) an Improved Packaging Certification Process flowchart that emphasizes early and systematic communication between the applicant and regulator; 2) a SARP Completeness Checklist; 3) guidelines for qualifications, education, and training of SARP Writing Team members; and 4) a training course for certification applicants on Management of SARP Preparation. A primary goal of these initiatives is to improve the quality of the SARP that is submitted with the initial application.

This article presents the preparation of a working physical mock-up wingtip device with morphing functionality. The objective of the mechanical demonstrator is to achieve a technology readiness level to establish confidence that one would proceed to an in-service R&D initiative. To establish the feasibility of scalable technology integration for product development, a tier schedule is employed to demonstrate material compliance, mechanism kinematics and perform bandwidth experimentation. Potential composite materials for design of flexible skins (i.e., Hexweb®, Kevlar® 49 and HexPly®) were assessed using a spectrum of experimental verification procedures. These results are embodied to benchmark qualitatively and quantitatively the mechanical performance of the potential materials to use in a preliminary optimized morphing schedule.

Assessment of rotorcraft performance following an engine failure is necessary to ensure its safe operation. During the rotorcraft certification process, demonstration of compliance to power-off landing requirements is one of the most challenging flight test phases. For these types of flight activities, using a simulation approach not only provides safety, reduction of cost and effectiveness but also allows training of the flight test team beforehand. Since loss of engine power is regarded as one of the most critical failure scenarios, extensive training of the flight test team is required to improve autorotation performance, i.e., managing available energy at the rotors. This paper is focused on evaluation of autorotation characteristics of the T-625 light utility helicopter in a simulator environment. Experience gained from this work guided both design engineers and flight test team towards initial preparation of dual-engine failure emergency procedure in the rotorcraft flight manual.

The prevalence of substandard medicines in Africa is high but not well documented. Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) are likely to face considerable challenges with substandard medications. Africa faces inadequate drug regulatory practices, and in general, compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in most of the pharmaceutical industries is lacking. The majority of pharmaceutical manufacturers in developing countries are often overwhelmed by the GMP requirements and therefore are unable to operate in line with internationally acceptable standards. Non-conformances observed during regulatory inspections provide the status of the compliance to GMP requirements. The study aimed to identify the GMP non-conformances during regulatory inspections and gaps in the production of pharmaceuticals locally manufactured in Uganda by review of the available 50 GMP reports of 21 local pharmaceutical companies in Uganda from 2016. The binary logistic generalized estimating equations (GEE) model was applied to estimate the association between odds of a company failing to comply with the GMP requirements and non-conformances under each GMP inspection parameter. Analysis using dummy estimation to linear regression included determination of the relationship that existed between the selected variables (GMP inspection parameters) and the production capacity of the local pharmaceutical industry. Oral liquids, external liquid preparations, powders, creams, and ointments were the main categories of products manufactured locally. The results indicated that 86% of the non-conformances were major, 11% were minor, and 3% critical. The majority of the non-conformances were related to production (30.1%), documentation (24.5%), and quality control (17.6%). Regression results indicated that for every non-conformance under premises, equipment, and utilities, there was a 7-fold likelihood of the manufacturer failing to comply with the GMP standards (aOR=6.81, P=0.001). The results showed that major non-conformances were significantly higher in industries of small scale (B=6.77, P=0.02) and medium scale (B=8.40, P=0.04), as compared to those of large scale. This study highlights the failures in quality assurance systems and stagnated GMP improvements in these industries that need to be addressed by the manufacturers with support from the regulator. The addition of risk assessment to critical production and quality control operations and establishment of appropriate corrective and preventive actions as part of quality management systems are required to ensure that quality pharmaceuticals are manufactured locally.
