The article substantiates the urgency of supporting innovative activities development by secondary vocational education workers. The study is aimed at finding the causes of difficulties and justifying the support of innovative activities of teachers. Its purpose is also to determine the conditions and stages, and to identify the means of support. The scientific novelty of the article lies in the fact that a complex of organizational and pedagogical conditions that provide support for innovative activities is highlighted. It also includes diagnostics of innovative activities development level, motivational support, differentiated and individualized training of teachers, and organization of teachers' joint innovation activities. Based on domestic research, the stages of teachers support are identified. They include preparatory, motivational, self-diagnostic, goal-setting, and planning. Self-realization and intensification of teachers practical activities, independent innovation and a reflective-analytical stage are also emphasized. The means of accompaniment at each stage are listed: direct participation in innovation, research, implementation of innovative projects, contextual training, methodological and psychological support, introspection, and reflection. The author describes the results of diagnostics of teachers in relation to innovations, carried out using a set of techniques aimed at identifying individual characteristics of the perception of innovations. The most numerous groups are distinguished: teachers with a negative attitude, teachers who are neutral in relation to innovations, and teachers with a positive attitude; ready to implement innovations and teachers who are at a creative level.

The purpose of the study in this case is to develop methods for modeling processes aimed at ensuring investment planning of innovative activities of the enterprise. The methodological basis of the research is the adaptation of technological networks to the methods of financial and resource planning. In parallel, the corresponding mathematical apparatus was developed. It became clear that the activities of the company's department dealing with innovation management have to base on the principles of project management. The research based on the analysis of the process aimed at creating or acquiring an innovation at an enterprise in the context of the resources necessary for the successful implementation of such a process. The result determined and described a mathematical pattern describing the dependence of the probability that a technological operation will be performed successfully on the amount of investment (resources) allocated for this operation. Adjacency matrices became the most appropriate form of representation of models of innovative processes.

The article considers the role of innovation management in the enterprise on the experience of foreign companies. The essence of innovation management, its tasks and functions are substantiated. Innovation management - is one of the areas of strategic management, carried out at the highest level of the organization. Its purpose is to determine the main directions of production and scientific and technical activities of the enterprise. This is primarily the development and implementation of new technology and products, modernization and improvement of products and technology, further development of production of traditional products and withdrawal from production of obsolete products. Innovation management is characterized by goal setting and strategy selection, as well as four stages of the cycle: planning, setting conditions and organization, implementation, leadership. The allocation of functions in innovation management is due to the diversity of management activities in the chain idea - research - development - design - production - implementation of innovations. Under the functions of management means the type of activity that is necessary for the implementation of the general objectives of innovation management. On the example of foreign companies: Whirlpool, General Electric, DuPon, Visa the results of the introduction of innovation management are shown. The practice of the leading companies of the developed countries of the world shows that their success is connected with the development of a holistic system of innovation management, which is in constant and continuous development in accordance with changes in both the organization and the external environment. These companies create such an innovative structure and management culture in which the directions of innovative development are integrated into general strategic plans related to the constant development of promising new products and the creation of new business areas. Innovation management creates a long-term advantage if it meets one or more of three conditions: innovation is based on a new principle that challenges the orthodoxy of management; system innovation, covering a number of processes and methods; and this is part of the current program of the invention, where progress is combined with the passage of time.

Although micro-enterprises represent most of the enterprises across different sectors, they are excluded from official statistics on innovation activities. What we know about micro-enterprises is based on smaller quantitative and qualitative studies that are country- and sector-specific. To understand the innovation activities of Slovenian enterprises in the forest-wood sector, we conducted our own quantitative study in 2019 based on the Eurostat’s Community Innovation Survey (CIS) questionnaire. Based on responses from 294 enterprises, we compare how micro-enterprises and small to medium enterprises (SMEs) differ in innovation strategies, product, and process innovations, co-operation with other organisations, innovation activities, and innovations with environmental benefits. The results indicate that, in some respects, enterprises with two to nine employees are at least as innovative as small to medium enterprises, or even more so. We argue that innovation surveys should lower the employee count threshold to attain better representative insight into the innovation landscape.

Introduction. In today's conditions of economic development, business entities face the challenge of reformatting systems, methods, methods and economic mechanisms for managing sustainability in terms of innovative approach. Therefore, the solution of economic, social, managerial and personal problems in contemporary society implies a specific innovative style of management, which is based on innovation, innovation, systematic and continuous innovation activities. Purpose. Identification of peculiarities of the development of innovation activity of business entities in Ukraine, positive features and deficiencies that exist, and clarification of the role of the state in the creation of general institutional coordinates for economic entities as an element of the system of innovative development of the country's economy. Results. The study of the mechanism of innovation activity allows us to conclude that the formation and development of an innovative management strategy by an economic entity is an integration process that combines the processes of forecasting, planning and accounting of the resource base of the enterprise in the long-term, medium-term and short-term prospects in the new conditions modernization of the state economy. Creating a national innovation system is to build a holistic system that effectively transforms new knowledge into new technologies, products and services that find their real consumers in national or global markets. At the same time, attention should be paid to the development of an innovative strategy by each domestic enterprise, which will create conditions for positive trends in the development of this process. Conclusions. Innovations are essentially related to the cyclical development of the economy, as they initiate new technological developments. Therefore, in an innovative economy, the state plays an important role in implementing anti-cyclical economic regulation, smoothing out cyclical fluctuations and mitigating their effects. In today's conditions, further development of recommendations for improving the methodology for assessing the innovative potential of industrial enterprises, optimizing the management of innovation activity in the state and its individual regions, the choice of forms and methods of state support for innovation projects in order to improve the investment climate and increase inflow of innovative investments is necessary.

Although it is commonly argued that unions need to innovate in order to grow and achieve success, little is known about the characteristics of unions that facilitate or hinder innovation. The authors of this study develop a model of union innovation and test it using data collected from many sources, including a 1990 survey of 275 officials and staff members from 111 American national unions. The results suggest that certain union characteristics, such as environmental monitoring (systematic monitoring by the union of developments that could affect it) and rationalization (good structuring and management of administrative activities), are positively associated with innovative behavior. In addition, there is a positive relationship between innovation and the heterogeneity of a union's members.

Digitization of analogue everyday artifacts, i.e. when physical products are equipped with digital capabilities, has a profound impact on today’s society. Some examples of these digital innovations aimed at consumer markets are the “connected” car, the digitized television set, and in the near future, digitized IKEA furniture. Digital innovation provides endless opportunities for providing value adding products and services. However, in digital innovation there is a need to find new ways of organizing network activities, i.e. activities such as e.g. production and translation of knowledge and enrollment of actors. These activities need to embrace and build on the networked aspects and the complexity inherent to digital innovation. This requires network activities that can overcome challenges with the ambiguous and messy characteristics of digital innovation. In this thesis, I propose that the theoretical perspective of network orchestration can enlighten fruitful ways to address challenges that are encountered when organizing network activities in digital innovation. Inspired by practical challenges with digital innovation, as well as contemporary calls for research within IS, this thesis investigates: How can network activities be orchestrated in digital innovation? Two cases of digital innovation aimed at consumer markets are studied. The first case concerns the digitization of the newspaper. The second case regards the digitization of door locks. Literature about digital innovation is used to understand the context of the studied phenomenon. Furthermore, theories about network orchestration as well as activities in innovation are used as a theoretical framework to help answer the research question. The thesis is based on an interpretative perspective where a multi-method approach has been applied to address the research question. The contribution is divided into two different parts. The first part presents four categories of empirically derived network activities that address socio-technical challenges with organizing digital innovation. The second part is a proposed model detailing orchestration of network activities in digital innovation. The model is based around the four suggested categories of network activities: (1) Supporting flexible innovation networks, (2) Production and translation of layered architectural knowledge, (3) Addressing heterogeneous user communities, and (4) Harnessing generativity to leverage value. The categories of network activities can be viewed as building blocks for the orchestration process. By emphasizing both a proactive and a reactive way of orchestrating digital innovation, the model proposes a means for organizations to address the ambiguity and complexity of digital innovation.

The economic environment in which a firm operates is constantly changing. This thesis contains three essays to examine how firms adapt their innovation and international activities to a variety of external changes. The first paper, “Information Frictions and the Law of One Price: ‘When the States and the Kingdom became United’”, shows how information frictions affect the exporting behavior of merchants, exploiting a unique historical experiment: the transatlantic telegraph, established in 1866. Using a newly collected data set on cotton trade based on historical newspapers, I find that information frictions result in large and volatile deviations from the Law of One Price. There are also real effects, because exports respond to information about foreign demand shocks, and average exports increase after the telegraph and become more volatile. I provide a model in which exporters use the latest news about a foreign market to forecast expected selling prices when their exports arrive at the destination. Their forecast error is smaller and less volatile the more recent the available information. The welfare gains from the telegraph are estimated to be around 8% of annual export value. The second paper, “Survive another day: Using changes in the composition of investments to measure the cost of credit constraints” is joint work with Luis Garicano. We introduce a novel empirical strategy to measure the credit shocks that were triggered by the recent financial crisis: Theoretically, we show that credit shocks affect long term investments by more than short term ones. Credit shocks can then be measured within firms by the relative drop of long run relative to short run investments; using firm-times-year fixed effects to absorb idiosyncratic demand shocks. Using data on Spanish manufacturing firms we find that credit constraints are equivalent to an additional tax rate of around 11% on the longest lived investment. While the trade literature has established a positive impact of globalization on the productivity of firms, there is lacking consensus about the underlying mechanism at work: Trade theory focuses on a market access mechanism, but empirical papers point out that import competition matters as well. The third paper, “The roles of import competition and export opportunities for technical change”, conducts a “horse race” between the two mechanisms. Using Spanish firm level data, I find robust evidence that access to export markets leads to productivity increases, but only for firms that were already highly productive before. The evidence on import competition is weaker and very heterogeneous, pointing towards an omitted variable bias in earlier papers.

Today's business environment has become increasingly competitive, which is partly due to an expansion in globalization coupled with higher consumer demands. This places greater demands on flexibility and consciously of innovation. Traditional innovation measurement focuses on measuring output, which means that it can take years to evaluate and map the innovation process. The aim of the following project is to identify activities that enable companies to monitor and develop their innovative activities. The metrics are tools that help organizations control and develop innovations, to strengthen their innovation process. The study was initiated with a systematic literature review with the objective to highlight important aspects of innovation and innovation measurement. Empirical data was collected through the qualitative method, where 13 semi-structured interviews were conducted. Three of the interviews were with researchers that have knowledge in the field of innovation. The remaining interviews were conducted with employees at case company Dynapac. Based on the theoretical and empirical findings, a definition of innovation has been identified for the manufacturing sector. Within the case company, the challenge was to analyse the current metrics and develop future metrics. The researchers reveal the importance of implementing a measurement system that drives activities related to the development of innovative work and capabilities, to ensure continuity. Ten metrics have been identified for the innovation process. These have been categorized into input, process, and output to guide companies in the innovation process. The metrics were categorized by four types: capability, organization, market and financial. The objectives with the metrics are to capture the full range of the innovation process and the activities that are relevant to each metrics. The metrics are actively promoting keeping track or supporting reflection about innovation activities.

The aim of our research is to explore the effect of firms’ innovation activity in China. Our research explores the linkage between firms’ knowledge sourcing, innovation output and innovation barrier perception in developing countries. We combine firms’ recursive innovation activity based on the research framework of innovation value chain and innovation barrier analysis. Using a database containing innovation panel data obtained from more than 16,000 Chinese firms over the period 2005-2010, we obtained results that show that there are complementary effects between firms’ internal knowledge sourcing and other external knowledge sourcing but no substitution effects between any two knowledge sourcings in China. In terms of the knowledge transformation process, we find that in-plant R&D has the most strongly positive and significant effect on the probability of undertaking successful product innovation. Our results based on an estimate of Chinese firms’ perception of innovation barriers indicate that profit firms are more likely to perceive government regulation and market information barriers and that Chinese firms perceive government-related innovation barriers as a more important difficulty than other barriers.

While many organizational actors, including firms, governments, universities, and non-profit organizations may have an impact on the innovative capacity of the firms with which they engage, we have little knowledge of their relative importance. The literature on innovation intermediaries reports on the impact of specific types of organizations, but has not considered the relative importance of different types of organizations. While the studies using Community Innovation Survey (CIS) data are able to consider relative effects, data on the nature of those effects are limited. In the interests of a better understanding of the relative nature and degree of the innovation enabling contributions of a range of organizational actors, I conduct a comparative examination of the contributions of firms, governments, universities, industry associations, and research institutes. Using survey data from a sample of 499 firms, I identify the actors that are most strongly associated with each of ten innovation intermediation activities.

Business planning is not a new phenomenon in Ukraine's economy. It is an integral tool of the business environment used to create a new business or project. The business plan describes the main aspects of the future project or enterprise, analyzes all the problems it may face, and provides ways to solve them. It is also the main document on the basis of which partners, investors and creditors provide the necessary investments. In a market economy, such a plan should be a planned program to study the market and competitors, risk, production and economic, financial activities and sales and ensure 8 the adaptation of the firm to new conditions. This approach involves the possibility and need to develop local business plans for individual projects, products (goods) and services. In crisis conditions, the business plan of the enterprise is designed, above all, to solve the problem of improving its financial condition. The concept of the system of internal business planning is to create a system of management and analysis of all areas of financial and economic activity of the enterprise, which meet the following requirements: ⎯ Development of a functional model of the enterprise with the allocation of basic business units and management functions; ⎯ Interconnectedness of a complex of receptions in horizontal and vertical section; ⎯ Reliability and timeliness of analytical information obtained as a result of the enterprise; ⎯ Qualitative analysis and detection of deviations as a result of plan-factor comparison; ⎯ Flexible and fast scheme of adaptation to changes of internal and external factors. Thus, business planning is a universal tool that can be used with different target settings. The theoretical and practical fundamentals of enterprise business planning were investigated and summarized; thereupon the best ways to improve the effectiveness of drafting the business plans were developed. The theoretical fundamentals of enterprise business planning were investigated, and their essential characteristics were unified. The methodological principles of drafting the business plan were summarized, and the practice of business planning at LLC “LKT 2016” was analyzed. The proposals for business-planning improvement of the company under investigation in the context of adjusting to dynamic market changes were developed.

This study examines and verifies the factors influencing idea management in enhancing external innovation capabilities within front-end activities in large organisations. Previous studies have identified idea management as being in serious need of better management. This research aims to address this need by adding new knowledge and understanding to how organisations generate, search and select ideas internally and externally. Innovation is rapidly becoming a strategic priority, but there is a large gap between the perceived importance of innovation and the effectiveness of approaches used to support innovation. Idea management works under the premise that the innovation process is too important to be left to chance. Ideas are the starting point to every innovation. This research examines the concept of idea management, which acknowledges the importance of external ideas within the innovation process. External sources offer a huge amount of knowledge and ideas, much of which is unexpected and can therefore promote disruptive innovation. Idea management is characterised by a high degree of complexity and must be organised efficiently in order to work in the long-term. It is well established that there is a general lack of clarity, definition and understanding within the front-end of innovation in terms of language, processes and activities. This is why it is also referred to as the fuzzy front-end, occurring prior to when an idea receives formal funding. Several key activities include opportunity identification, problem definition, environmental scanning, and idea generation and evaluation. These activities involve leveraging internal and external innovation capabilities and is one of the reasons why this research focuses on better understanding and visualising this interaction by improving idea management practices.

Self-regulated learning and innovation activities within teams are those processes with which team members collectively activate and sustain cognition, affects and behaviors which are systematically oriented towards the achievement of their team’s goals. Although research on self-managing teams exists, there remains considerable confusion on many issues including what self-regulation is and how regulation of self-regulated learning and innovation activities is carried out. A primary contribution of this dissertation is to introduce a theoretical framework for analysing and applying regulative actions in organizational environment. The aim of this dissertation is to advance the understanding on how regulation of self- managing team learning and innovation activities can happen starting from an analysis of the self-regulative learning processes of individuals within teams and of their own determinants.  This dissertation has  three objectives: 1) to present internal team mechanisms involved in the self-regulation  of teams’ learning activities, their interactive dynamics and their corresponding major organisational determinants; 2) to rely on this novel understanding to detect relevant regulative actions which are able to indirectly influence teams’ self-regulatory learning and innovative behaviour; 3) to offer empirical evidence of how specific regulative actions affect team learning and innovation performance. We discover that there are four major constructs associated with the regulation of teams’ learning and innovation activities: feedback loops and goals equally combining learning and performance items, networks of influence made up of managers and stakeholders interacting with teams through systematic routines, training programmes for team members, dialectical perspective on learning and innovation to force in the managerial layers.

It is by now common knowledge that one of the aspects upon which the survival of the University depends is how it will make the best possible use of the new technologies (e-learning). Despite the acceptance of this principle, difficulties arise when one attempts to proceed from the mere declaration to actually planning activities and putting them into effect. This research, the result of collaboration between teachers and researchers of the Educational Science and Engineering Faculties of the University of Florence, focuses on certain theoretical concepts and reference apparatus, bringing international literature to bear on the specific case of Italy.

AbstractThis research investigates the case of the Joint Programming Initiative (JPI) Urban Europe and its role as an intermediary organization, developing research, and innovation programs for urban transition. In the literature, the role of an intermediary organization has recently been discussed as an effective promoter and developer of connecting visions, strategies, activities, and stakeholders. A conceptual approach to intermediary organizations for urban transition is operationalized, and its functions are discussed in this paper. As an example, the Joint Programming Initiative Urban Europe reveals how a transnational R&I initiative, represented by 20 national R&I programs in Europe, can provide scientific evidence for sustainable urbanization with a cross-sectoral, integrated, inter- and transdisciplinary approach implemented through activities beyond joint calls. The findings show that JPI Urban Europe acts as broker and facilitator of joint visions and starts to build communities for innovation, which is one of the important functions of intermediaries. The development of its Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda clearly followed a co-creation process, putting the dilemmas of city practitioners in the center. JPI Urban Europe managed to attract high levels of commitment from a diversity of stakeholders to its strategic priorities and mobilized respective budgets for its implementation. The analysis of JPI Urban Europe participation in funded projects shows that challenge-driven calls (putting the problem owners in the center) seems to successfully develop a common language for all stakeholders and has a higher likelihood to generate more transformative outcomes. The number of funded urban living labs in projects shows that room for experimentation in niches and their extension is provided. The number of city representatives as funded project partners could be increased to further stimulate active involvement. The JPI Urban Europe also acts as a translator and enabler for learning in the urban—as well as in the policy sphere—the third function. This can be confirmed by the number and type of organizations reached with its specific formats. JPI Urban Europe coordinates joint activities of mainly national R&I programs but has only indirect influence on change in these organizations and limited influence on changes within research organizations, businesses, or cities that are even less connected. Overall, it can be concluded that the strategic ambition of JPI Urban Europe towards transformative change is obvious, but some instruments and formats to translate the ambition into action need further refinement, and it needs further in-depth research to better understand the outcomes and impacts of its diverse activities.

AbstractCowpea is a food crop of great importance to the people of Mali due to its contribution to food security, improvement of producers’ incomes, a price that is higher than that of cereals, and an important role in social relationships. However, the availability of good quality seeds is a major constraint to its production and productivity. As seeds are the key input in agriculture, an innovation platform has been established at the Cinzana Agronomic Research Station in May 2016 to improve the production and distribution of cowpea seeds in Mali. It brings together farmers, distributors, transporters, financial and technical services, and NGOs. This ensures greater sharing of information and knowledge among the different actors involved in the cowpea seed value chain. Two bodies of governance were set up: Program Planning Committee and Executive Office. Significant results have been achieved in three years of existence: the number of varieties used has increased from 5 to 12. The amount of foundation seeds produced annually has increased from 1 t to more than 20 t. The sales strategy in small packs proved very effective by reaching more farmers. Promotional activities involved 25 training sessions for 1097 farmers in different aspects of the value chain and 299 demonstrations, involving 2934 producers and benefiting 12193 farmers.

AbstractA solution to cope with chaotic urban settlements and frenetic everyday life is refuging in nature as a way to reduce stress. In general—in recent years—it has been scientifically demonstrated how natural areas are an important environment for psycho-physiological health. As a consequence, it is important to plan dedicated spaces for stress recovery in order to increase the well-being of people. With respect to forests, there is a growing interest in understanding the marketing and tourist potential of forest-therapy activities and policies. This paper develops a decision support system (DSS) for decision makers, based on geographic information system to define the suitability of forest areas to improve psychological and physiological human well-being. Innovative technologies such as electroencephalography (EEG) and virtual reality (VR) are applied to test human status. The DSS combines four sets of indicators in a multi-attribute decision analysis and identifies the areas with the largest stress-recovery potential. Two multi-attribute model—one in summer and one in winter—are elaborated to obtain a dynamic evaluation of suitability. Results show significant differences among forest type, forest management, altitude range, and season in terms of stand suitability. EEG and VR seem to be promising technologies in this research area. Strengths and weaknesses of the approach, as well as potential future improvement and implications for territorial marketing, are suggested.

The current article is devoted to search tools for determining the optimal solution and forming the optimal company strategy for small innovative companies in the business innovation environment of the oil and gas complex. The main area of research in the article is the reasons for the difficulties of innovative Russian entrepreneurship and its entry into the domestic market and work in this market. We also consider tools such as SWIFT-analysis of assessment and forecasting of the company's performance, the portfolio model of BCG (Boston consulting group), a multi-factor matrix for selecting strategies for the most effective planning of the company's activities, as an improved version of the Arthur D. Little model. At the same time, the study revealed that a wider range of project and strategic opportunities for planning and managing a company is formed by the production and economic matrix using SWOT analysis. Thus, based on this study, the following recommendations were formulated for beginning entrepreneurs and developers in the field of innovation: take into account and apply the strategy for small innovative enterprises according to the SWOT analysis for monitoring and forecasting upcoming events (production or economic); use marketing research tools, as well as forms for planning a product plan for the life of the company; take into account that the forecast should be based on strategic analysis, using the optimal method for specific goals, and be the starting point for developing new models and business development plans.

The world’s elderly population has soared since the 21 st century. In the COVID-19 epidemic in 2020, more than 30% of deaths worldwide are among the elderly. One of the important reasons for the formation of these diseases is the lack of outdoor exercise, and one of the key influencing factors is the fitness of activity environment. Therefore, it is of theoretical significance and practical value to spatial and temporal environment characteristics of outdoor activities of th elderly. In this study, Dezhou of Shandong province, China, was selected as the research city, where the elderly population ratio was significant. In this study, a questionnaire was compiled, including basic information of the elderly, spatial characteristics of activities, and environmental cognition of community activities, with a total of 30 questions. Data acquisition is conducted both online and offline. In the trial research stage, a total of 100 questionnaires were collected. The statistical results show that: the elderly generally pay attention to outdoor activities and their activity are generally with regularity; activity willingness is restricted by underlying diseases; the activity environment is under weak support; the reconstruction of the activity environment involves distance, facilities, health and epidemic prevention and space innovation.

Ergonomics is a discipline concerned with human well being and in making resources adequate to human activities. Nevertheless we witness that the pressure of the market, regarding economy of time and resources make activities that involve optimization, such as ergonomic planning, design and evaluation, be penalized by the cuts performed by the industry. On the other hand, customers do not make a firm demand for ergonomic qualities which are not easily recognizable and can be complex to be designed and evaluated. Therefore the resource to protect human well-being regarding the resources available for them to develop their activities exists but is not well known or even recognized. This work proposes the valorization of Ergonomic activities by means of joining forces with the Systemic Design methodology in the development of strategies for increasing the awareness of customers. It also presents an instrument, the model of Systemic Network of Integral Endeavors, to be used to create strong network of businesses that are fully sustainable and that understand the importance of the respect for the customer.

This paper presents a Cloud Based Feature Recognition Module (CB-FRM) developed to support Collaborative and Adaptive Process Planning for Sustainable Manufacturing Environments. In the work, the CB-FRM is developed for a Cloud-based environment and based on an innovative ‘pattern-strings’ feature recognition concept. The Cloud system is designed in a light client and heavy server architecture, where the ‘pattern-strings’-based feature recognition approach is developed and deployed. Through recognized ‘pattern-strings’, the feature recognition process is able to extract the complete information of features with its location in the plane. The detailed information of the features is then shared in a developed Cloud environment for the downstream process planning activities. The implementation aspect is explained with the help of a sample industrial part by emphasizing the importance of Cloud manufacturing environment with process planning activities.

The aim of sustainable mobility is to choose means of transport that have the least possible impact on the environment. Since all motor vehicles cause a direct or indirect form of pollution, walking and cycling are an ideal form of mobility from an environmental point of view. If the use of vehicles is taken into account, public transport generates much less pollution per passenger than the car. In addition to logistical problems such as congestion and lack of parking space, the massive use of cars is a major contributory factor to a sharp deterioration in air quality in urban areas and causes emissions of greenhouse gasses. In addition to promoting sustainable forms of mobility, rational route planning is also important. It is, therefore, reasonable to prepare the timetable of activities, stressing the importance of limiting unnecessary routes. In this paper, we will see how sustainable mobility can be addressed in a higher academic environment. Several proposals are presented to optimize mobility by rationalizing the organization of students' obligations within the faculty.

Abstract While Floating Offshore Wind (FOW) represents a significant opportunity to foster wind energy development and to contribute to remarkable CO2 emissions reductions, its associated operational costs are still substantially above grid parity, and significant innovation is needed. MooringSense is a research and innovation project which explores digitisation technologies to enable the implementation of risk-based integrity management strategies for mooring systems in the FOW sector with the aim to optimise Operations and Maintenance (O&M) activities, reduce costs, and increase energy production. As part of this project, a risk-based assessment methodology specific for the mooring system of Floating Offshore Wind Turbines (FOWT) has been developed; this allows the development of a risk-based Mooring Integrity Management Strategy that can result in more cost-effective inspection planning. The methodology shall utilise the information made available by numerical tools, sensors, and algorithms developed in the project to update the risk level of the mooring system and set the required plan to mitigate the risk. Leveraging the additional information from monitoring technologies and predictive capabilities to determine the mooring system condition and remaining lifetime, the strategy provides the criteria for optimal decision making with regards to selection of O&M activities. The risk-based strategy developed allows for optimal planning of inspection and maintenance activities based on dynamic risk level that is periodically updated through the interface with the Digital Twin (DT). The validation of the strategy will demonstrate potential cost saving and economic advantages, however, it is expected that the overall MooringSense approach can reduce FOW farm operational costs by 10-15% and increase operational efficiency by means of an Annual Energy Production increase by 2-3%. The MooringSense project comprises of the development and validation of innovative solutions coming from multiple disciplines such as numerical modelling, simulation, Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), Structural Health Monitoring (SHM), and control systems which will provide valuable input to the risk-based mooring integrity management strategy.

In this paper, we address a specific tool—InnoMix—that is implemented to overcome the lack of university–industry interaction in a selected region facing structural change with its corresponding impact on the economy and society. InnoMix is facilitated and implemented by university-based transfer scouts who act as mediators and translators between the players of the regional innovation system. These transfer scouts are part of the Innovation Hub 13, in which the region’s partners and stakeholders, infrastructures and competencies are systematically networked with each other to set new impulses for knowledge and technology transfer. These new impulses are brought into the region through new transfer approaches ranging from people and tools to infrastructure. InnoMix can be considered to be a highly interactive tool to overcome the weak, direct interaction between researchers and potential corporate partners in the region to foster strong collaboration between academia and industry. InnoMix especially aims to strengthen interdisciplinary exchange to shed light on cross-disciplinary perspectives. For that reason, transfer scouts focusing on transfer activities related to the life sciences, digitalisation and lightweight construction are involved in the implementation of InnoMix. Based on 11 InnoMix running since 2019, we provide insights into the planning and preparation phase of InnoMix and the selection of relevant topics and requirements for matching participants. Furthermore, we clearly indicate which formats of InnoMix work best and in which way university–industry interactions could be curated after InnoMix is implemented.

Doing development differently rests on deliberate efforts to reflect and learn, not just about what programmes are doing and achieving, but about how they are working. This is particularly important for an action research programme like Child Labour: Action- Research-Innovation in South and South-Eastern Asia (CLARISSA), which is implemented by a consortium of organisations from across the research and development spectrum, during a rapidly changing global pandemic. Harnessing the potential of diverse skills and complementary strengths across partners in responding to the complex challenge of the worst forms of child labour, requires capacity to work together in novel ways. This Research and Evidence Paper documents how CLARISSA approached capacity development, and what we learnt from our challenges and successes. From the start, the programme incorporated a capacity development strategy resting on self-assessment of a wide range of behavioural and technical competencies that were deemed important for programme implementation, formal training activities, and periodic review of progress through an after-action review (AAR) process. An inventory of capacity development activities that took place during the first year of implementation reveals a wide range of additional, unplanned activities, enabled by the programme’s flexibility and adaptive management strategy. These are organised into eight modalities, according to the individual or collective nature of the activity, and its sequencing – namely, whether capacity development happens prior to, during, or after (from) implementation. We conclude with some reflections on the emergent nature of capacity development. Planning capacity development in an adaptive programme provides a scaffolding in terms of time, resources, and legitimacy that sustains adaptiveness. We also recognise the gaps that remain to be addressed, particularly on scaling up individual learning to collective capabilities, and widening the focus from implementation teams to individuals working at consortium level.

Innovation districts are physical spaces that serve to strengthen the foundations and institutions of an innovation ecosystem. The design, implementation, and management of formalized innovation districts is a new practice area. Research draws upon the experience of concentrated areas of innovation that occurred organically, such as Boston’s Route 128, as well as intentional projects to bring together innovators in large science and technology parks, such as North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park. Existing research focuses on how to define and design innovation districts and evaluate their impact, as well as general policy considerations. In this paper, we review the definitions and benefits of an innovation district, reviewing the existing empirical research on their impacts. We then propose a series of questions to guide practitioners in addressing the economic, physical, social, and governance elements of an innovation district. Finally, we outline some of the challenges in creating an innovation district and ways to measure progress, to allow practitioners to get ahead of potential issues in the future. This paper is intended to help policymakers and practitioners working in innovation and economic development translate the concepts of innovation ecosystems into actionable next steps for planning innovation districts in their communities.
