The article presents the benefits and difficulties of the analysis life writing, especially the diary, by Genetic Criticism (critique genetique). Various Concepts from that methodological field, coined by Philippe Lejeune and Paweł Rodak, are used in the analysis. The text outlines and explains Jan Józef Szczepański’s Diary in this context as well. By using the category of „everyday writing practice” (taken from the Lejeune and Rodak) to define the journal, I shall compare the manuscript of Szczepański’s Diary with the published version, focusing in particular on the former’s special value for interpretation as well as on some issues which disappear in the printed version.

Working with a typology of different forms of "historical criticism," this essay urges (1) that historical criticism understood as reconstruction of "what really happened" and/or historical criticism that assumes the necessary segregation of "facts" from "faith" is inimical to theological interpretation; (2) that this form of historical criticism is increasingly difficult to support in light of contemporary work in the philosophy of history; and (3) that contemporary theological interpretation is dependent on expressions of historical criticism concerned with the historical situation within which the biblical materials were generated, including the sociocultural conventions they take for granted.

The aim of this thesis is at once simple and complex. It consists of explaining the modes of expression and the prevalent idioms of the experience of la promenade, the contemplative experience of a leisurely stroll, in the works and notebooks of Philippe Jaccottet. Far from focusing solely on the dynamic aspect of walking, the aspect to which the majority of literary critics have for so long limited themselves, it consists as well of defining the movement of la promenade as a practice of l'entre-deux (the in-between), through the sensorial dimensions of the work as well as through is writing practices. The objective of this thesis is to focus on the passage from the experience of movement to the experience of writing in the works of Jaccottet, in order to demonstrate that walking, in the context of la promenade, is not only an extra-diagetic experience, but that it possesses as well a diagetic status meant to be understood through the use of a particular form.
My analytical framework used here is founded on the hypothesis that la promenade, at least in the works of Philippe Jaccottet, is in fact an issue of the "in-between"; a problem which is first and foremost a way of formulating a vision of the world which comes from a particular poetic sense of measure, accuracy and balance. For Jaccottet, l'entre-deux denotes a way of inhabiting the outside world, of seizing the contrasts and contradictions in the tension between the known and the unknown, the near and the far, inside and outside, visible and invisible. In this sense, l'entre-deux denotes being at once within oneself and being in the world without, as if the poet himself wandered between two extremes, between two opposite poles of thought and knowledge.
In line with the procedures of traditional literary criticism, this thesis thus attempts to define the development of the poetic subject, its relation to the world, to writing and to language. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)

The main objective of this study is to understand how Valery, Pessoa and Jaccottet created or recreated the figure of the master. This figure has truly made its entry into the literary scene in the second half of the nineteenth century, and it contributed to impose a profane and more egalitarian vision of writing. In the writing of the three authors studied, the master is still seen as a strategy to develop a concept of creation, since it allows the writers to define their poetic. It is therefore a matter of maitres a penser (literally "thinking masters") or, better yet, maitres a ecrire ("writing masters").
For Valery, the desire to make Mallarme his master is best explained by his search for mastery. Even if he is eager to understand what makes Mallarme an exceptional creator, Valery's quest is hindered by Mallarme's refusal to explain his poetic. This resistance seems to encourage Valery to make the creative act a major concern of his work.
By coming up with a "non-existent coterie" made up of imaginary writers, and by recognizing one of them as his own master, Pessoa hopes to fill the gaps in his literary filiation. In the concert of voices that compose his work, it is yet the master himself which undermines the very legitimacy of the master, and that is why Pessoa finally gets rid of his invention.
Finally, Jaccottet creates his masters for the learning they could provide to him: in Jaccottet's unique story, the character of the master fails, allowing the poet to take his distance from assumptions related with the romantic vision of creation; then, a "good master" whose agony is described by poems becomes a model whose wisdom is inseparable from a kind of ignorance.
The presence of the master generates a story elaborated from the writings of these writers: the development of their poetic requires not only the creation of a master figure, but also its removal. Ultimately, the maitre a ecrire is not only one who induces writing in a unique way, but also the one which should be written in order to succeed.

This thesis deals with a set of compositions by C. P.E. Bach, referred to as "The Last Fourteen Rondos". Thirteen of these are contained in the collections of sonatas, fantasias and rondos for connoisseurs and music lovers. The fourteenth is a separate work, entitled "The Farewell From a Silbermann Clavier in the Form of a Rondo". After establishing the background and the history of these rondos, the thesis then proceeds to a detailed analysis of the various compositional aspects. First, it tries to explain the overall design of the rondos, a design which differs from that normally associated with rondo form. It then deals with the structure of the thematic material and shows Bach's preference for phrase parallelism and a relatively simple melodic and harmonic outline of the various subjects. Special chapters are devoted to the manner in which C.P.E. Bach treats the musical substance, namely, by means of Variation and by systematic development. A short chapter is then devoted to the fantasia sections, which are included into most of the rondos. It is in the field of harmony where C.P.E. Bach emerges as a most important forerunner of nineteenth century musical trends and, consequently, some detailed analyses form a major portion of the chapter dealing with harmony. Special attention is then given to the various aspects of C.P.E. Bach's style and, in particular, to the pianistic · traits. The thesis ends with a brief survey of the influence which C.P.E. Bach exerted on his contemporaries and on later composers.

Philip Roth's parody of autobiography in the Zuckerman series is part of a larger debate concerning the problems of Jewish art. As Roth manipulates personal and personified autobiography, he both underlines and undermines Jewish traditions of reading and writing. To be sure, Zuckerman's struggle for artistic identity articulates a long-standing Jewish concern with the tensions of collective representation. It is from a culture consistently threatened by alienation and extermination that Roth finds his terms of reference. Zuckerman and his creator are subject to a whole discourse of Jewish textuality: to Jewish notions about the relationship between the individual and the group; between fact and fiction and between aesthetics and morality.
However, the Zuckerman books are at once part of a continuum of Jewish culture and a unique response to the pressures of contemporary American Judaism. Through his humorous manipulations of autobiographical fiction, Roth finally counter-turns the very compasses by which he has oriented himself. He offers a potent commentary on the fatuity of Jewish "facts" and on the fictitious nature of the collectivized Jewish voice. For Roth, it is not only the Jew's experience, but his/her imagination, his/her individual frame of understanding, that determines ethnic identity. In the end, Roth challenges the cohesion of the Jewish cultural text. He places himself in a house of mirrors, where life and art, self and group, Jewish reverence and Jewish rebellion, endlessly reflect off one another.

Die doel van hierdie studie is om ondersoek in te stel na aspekte van die erotiek in enkele romans van André P. Brink. Die studie bestaan uit twee afsonderlike dele: genoem 'teorie' en 'praktyk'. In die teoretiese deel sal daar eerstens kortliks gekyk word na 'n definiering van enkele kernbegrippe - onder andere 'seksualiteit', 'erotiek' en 'pornografie'. Daar word nie gepoog om algemeen-geldende definisies te formuleer nie, maar eerder definisies wat nuttig is vir die doel van hierdie studie. Daarna sal ondersoek ingestel word na Brink self se teoretiese formulerings met betrekking tot die erotiek. In die tweede deel sal gekonsentreer word op die erotiek in die praktyk van Brink se romans. Eerstens sal die keuse van romans verduidelik word en dan sal daar oorgegaan word tot 'n bespreking van drie romans: Die ambassadeur (1963), Kennis van die Aand (1973) en 'n Oomblik in die wind (1975). The expressive systems in architecture consists of two components: the system of forms and the system of meanings, these systems are linked together by unwritten rules, which are a matrix of correlations / implications that determine any meanings associated with any forms. The designer remains unsure of the possible interpretations of his design, because of the variation in the nature of meaning, discovered by the recipient, and this stems from the variation of reliance on the theory of interpretation in this regard. Many studies of architectural semiology indicate some of these theories; Classical theory believes in the natural meaning, which influenced by form's geometry, Pragmatic theory believes in the common meaning, which stems from the use of form within different contexts and according to social custom. The research attempts to explore the aspects of interpretation adopted by two critics, in order to determine the theory adopted by them, so the designer will be aware to the nature and type of meaning comprehended by viewers. The results showed the adoption of common and inclusive meanings, also showed the variation in the role of architectural Expressions in confirming or multiplying the meaning, influenced by contexts and signal types. The conclusion emphasized the importance of historical references, stylistic trend, and spatial contexts in form interpretation.

The aim of the paper is to emphasize the importance of source criticism in etymological research. It is widely known that the main sources for the early history of toponyms in the Carpathian Basin are the charters created in the medieval Hungarian Kingdom, because these official documents contained a large number of vernacular proper names embedded in the Latin text. However, it is important to mention that the medieval charters were produced by the chancery and places of authentication along specific principles and needs. I argue that this circumstance must always be considered during the interpretation of the data. I will show some examples illustrating that – in certain cases – we have to take into account the nature of the sources in the reconstruction of the genesis of place names. My goal is to offer a brief outline of this issue through my own investigations.

The paper explores the use by Euthymius Chudovsky of Maximus the Greek’s achievements in the linguistic revision of biblical texts. Correction and translation of the New Testament by Euthymius in the 1680s demonstrates not only the appeal to the texts translated by Maximus as language patterns, but also the development of his philological criticism of the text of Holy Scripture and its interpretation.

Анотація:
The article gives an aesthetic interpretation of the art criticism judgment - “An everlasting day” in relation to the painting “Hunters in the Snow” by the Dutch artist, representative of the Northern Renaissance (16th century) Pieter Bruegel (Muzhitsky). In the context of the ideas of phenomenological aesthetics, the type of painting is determined, a conclusion is made about the applicability of the considered judgment to paintings of a certain type, examples of such works from Russian art are given.

Since its rise as an autonomous field in the seventies, Urban Design has been a conglomerate of diverse concepts and value outlooks.The present approach, which is an a posteriori propositional expression of applications in actual practice and education, presents both theory and method by means of ten points. The approach is basically generated by formal considerations, thus originating in and focussing on aspects which cannot be expressed through theory and methods of other disciplines. It starts with systematic, conventional and objective studies which are then connected to a system of manipulations – the rules of game – which emphasize interpretation and are clarified by narrative and formal metaphors. The ‘rules of game’ set a framework of no a priori preferred contents, which is then applied according to local characteristics, needs and potentials. This conceptual – interpretative framework imposes a structural, consistent and hierarchical system on the factual data, so as to assure the realization of two apparently opposed values: (1) unity and phenomenological qualities and (2) free development and unfolding of the design that .The propositional expression of the approach aims at its exposure to explicit evaluation and criticism.

Western analysts of trends in the contemporary Islamic world often overestimate the impact of contemporary Sufi orders and/or underestimate the impact of the spiritual tradition of Islam. Among the elements of the spiritual tradition conducive to religious pluralism is the ‘mirror’ concept: every human is seen as a mirror of God in three aspects: reflecting the at- tributes and names of God as His work of art, reflection through dependence on God, and reflection through actions God commands or commends. Since only the last aspect is vol- untary, every human, regardless of creed, is a mirror of God in at least the first two aspects. This is a potent argument for peaceful coexistence in religious diversity. The perspective of the spiritual tradition is emphatically inclusive and compassionate and naturally lends itself to non-violence, going beyond mere tolerance to hospitality and friendship. There are impor- tant impediments that prevent this perspective from having a greater impact: (1) the literalist opposition to flexible interpretation of concepts from the Qur’an and the Prophetic tradition, and the wide definition of innovation or heresy (‘bid`a’); (2) deviations of some Sufi orders and subsequent criticisms by orthodox Muslims; and (3) the impact of the politicisation of religion by some groups and political moves by certain Sufi orders. This paper argues that the only approach that has a chance of influencing the majority of contemporary Muslims in positive ways without being open to criticism is the ‘balanced’ spiritual tradition, after the style of the Companions, sometimes called tasawwuf, which strives to harmonise the outer dimensions of Islamic law and worship with the inner dimen- sion of spiritual disciplines firmly rooted in the Qur’an and Prophetic tradition. This paper will present an analysis of this ‘balanced’ spiritual tradition in Islam, from Ghazali, through Rumi, to Gülen.
