Policosanol is a mixture of long-chain aliphatic alcohols (LCAAs) derived from various plant and insect origins that are marketed by various companies with distinct formulations and brand names. Policosanols offer several beneficial effects to treat dyslipidemia and hypertension; however, a comprehensive functionality comparison of various policosanol brands has yet to be thoroughly explored. In the present study five distinct policosanol brands from different origins and countries, Raydel-policosanol, Australia (PCO1), Solgar-policosanol, USA (PCO2), NutrioneLife-monacosanol, South Korea (PCO3), Mothernest-policosanol, Australia (PCO4), and Peter & John-policosanol, New Zealand (PCO5) were compared via dietary supplementation (1% in diet, final wt/wt) to zebrafish for six weeks to investigate their impact on survivability, blood lipid profile, and functionality of vital organs under the influence of a high-cholesterol diet (HCD, final 4%, wt/wt). The results revealed that policosanol brands (PCO1–PCO5) had a substantial preventive effect against HCD-induced zebrafish body weight elevation and hyperlipidemia by alleviating total cholesterol (TC) and triglycerides (TG) in blood. Other than PCO3, all the brands significantly reduced the HCD’s elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). On the contrary, only PCO1 displayed a significant elevation in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) level against the consumption of HCD. The divergent effect of PCO1–PCO5 against HCD-induced hepatic damage biomarkers, aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT), was observed. PCO1, PCO2, and PCO4 efficiently curtailed the AST and ALT levels; however, PCO3 and PCO5 potentially aggravated the HCD’s elevated plasma AST and ALT levels. Consistently, the hepatic histology outcome revealed the least effectiveness of PCO3 and PCO5 against HCD-induced liver damage. On the contrary, PCO1 exhibited a substantial hepatoprotective role by curtailing HCD-induced fatty liver changes, cellular senescent, reactive oxygen species (ROS), and interleukin-6 (IL-6) production. Likewise, the histological outcome from the kidney, testis, and ovary revealed the significant curative effect of PCO1 against the HCD-induced adverse effects. PCO2–PCO5 showed diverse and unequal results, with the least effective being PCO3, followed by PCO5 towards HCD-induced kidney, testis, and ovary damage. The multivariate interpretation based on principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) validated the superiority of PCO1 over other policosanol brands against the clinical manifestation associated with HCD. Conclusively, different brands displayed distinct impacts against HCD-induced adverse effects, signifying the importance of policosanol formulation and the presence of aliphatic alcohols on the functionality of policosanol products.

The electrochemical behaviors of the cold-rolled steel strip were investigated at the range of ordinary current density (10A/dm2-30A/dm2). The power consumption, which is caused by overpotential of the cold-rolled steel strip per unit area (PCOC), was used to evaluate the energy consumption which is caused by polarization effectively. The effects of electrolysis time, current density, temperature and the concentration of electrolyte on the PCOC were examined. The PCOC increased with time, but the growth rate of the PCOC decreased with time. After about 8 seconds, the increasing rate of the PCOC closed to zero. The value of the PCOC was in direct proportion to current density, and there was a significant increase when the current density is beyond 25A/dm2. Both raising temperature and increasing the concentration of electrolyte are effective ways of decreasing the PCOC.

Chronic inflammation and long-standing oxidative stress are potential predisposing factors for developing malignancies, including ovarian cancer (OVCA). Information on the association of ovarian chronic abnormal conditions, including polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), with the development of OVCA is unknown. The goal of this study was to examine if polycystic ovarian conditions are associated with OVCA development. In the exploratory study, 3–4-year-old laying hens were randomly selected and examined for the presence of polycystic ovaries with cancer (PCOC). In the prospective study, hens were monitored by ultrasound scanning to detect the incidence of a polycystic ovaries and subsequent development of OVCA. Tissues from normal ovaries and PCOC were examined for macrophage infiltration, expression of interleukin-16, and superoxide dismutase 2. The exploratory study detected spontaneous PCOC at early and late stages in hens. PCOC in hens were accompanied with influx of macrophages (17.33 ± 2.26 in PCOC at the early stage and 24.24 ± 2.5 in PCOC at the late stage in 20 mm2 areas of tissue as compared with 6.77 ± 1.58 in normal hens). Expression of interleukin-16 was more than 2.5-fold higher and superoxide dismutase 2 was approximately 3-fold higher in PCOC hens than normal hens. The prospective study showed the development of OVCA in some hens with polycystic ovarian condition (PCO). PCOC development in hens was associated with chronic inflammation in the ovary. Laying hens may represent a potential model for the study of spontaneous PCOS and its long-term risk of PCOC development.

The competitive adsorption and desorption of 2,4-D and PCOC, two of the commonly used phenoxy herbicide chemicals, in a volcanic soil has been examined. A Freundlich-type isotherm incorporating competition between the solutes was used to analyze the adsorption and desorption data. The competition coefficients for 2,4-D and PCOC were linearly dependent on the initial concentration for adsorption and on the amount adsorbed for desorption. The adsorption capacities of 2,4-D and PCOC in a bicomponent system were reduced by 10% and 8%, respectively, in comparison to their single-component values. The desorption studies showed that both 2,4-D and PCOC were difficult to desorb in a bicomponent system.

Background Very few measures are used successfully as part of routine care within national palliative care outcome programs. Only a handful of studies examine these measures. The aim of this study is to evaluate the validity of a measure used in a national outcomes program: the Palliative Care Outcomes Collaboration Symptom Assessment Scale (PCOC SAS). Methods A retrospective multi-site cohort study with secondary analysis of routinely collected patient-level data to assess PCOC SAS’s internal consistency, construct validity, reliability, interpretability, acceptability and sensitivity. The analyses used two sets, with data collected by inpatient and community palliative care services registered with the Australian national PCOC. Results Dataset one included 1,117 patients receiving palliative care from 21 services. Dataset two included 5,294 patients receiving palliative care from 119 PCOC services. PCOC SAS demonstrated the ability to detect and discriminate distress by palliative care phase, functional status and diagnosis. Excellent and good convergent and discriminant validity were demonstrated. Fair through to substantial inter-rater and intra-rater reliability levels were evidenced. Sufficient interpretability resulted along with necessary levels of acceptability and sensitivity. Conclusion PCOC SAS is a valid and reliable patient-reported outcome measure suitable for use in routine clinical care with patients requiring palliative and or end-of-life care, including in national outcomes programs.

Biodegradation of the mixed inhibitory substrates, 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and para-chloro-ortho-cresol (PCOC) was studied in aerobic batch cultures. Each substrate added beyond certain concentrations inhibited the degradation of the other. This mutual inhibition was found to be enhanced by 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) which is an intermediate metabolic product of 2,4-D. When 2,4-DCP accumulated to approximatelY 40 mg/l degradation of all compounds in the mixed 2,4-D and PCOC substrate system was completely inhibited. The degradation of 2,4-D and PCOC individually was also found to be inhibited by elevated concentrations of 2,4-DCP added externally, while PCOC inhibited the utilization of the intermediate.

Australia is leading the way in establishing a national system (the Palliative Care Outcomes Collaboration – PCOC) to measure the outcomes and quality of specialist palliative care services and to benchmark services across the country. This article reports on analysis of data collected routinely at point-of-care on 5939 patients treated by the first fifty one services that voluntarily joined PCOC. By March 2009, 111 services have agreed to join PCOC, representing more than 70% of services and more than 80% of specialist palliative care patients nationally. All states and territories are involved in this unique process that has involved extensive consultation and infrastructure and close collaboration between health services and researchers. The challenges of dealing with wide variation in outcomes and practice and the progress achieved to date are described. PCOC is aiming to improve understanding of the reasons for variations in clinical outcomes between specialist palliative care patients and differences in service outcomes as a critical step in an ongoing process to improve both service quality and patient outcomes. What is known about the topic?Governments internationally are grappling with how best to provide care for people with life limiting illnesses and how best to measure the outcomes and quality of that care. There is little international evidence on how to measure the quality and outcomes of palliative care on a routine basis. What does this paper add?The Palliative Care Outcomes Collaboration (PCOC) is the first effort internationally to measure the outcomes and quality of specialist palliative care services and to benchmark services on a national basis through an independent third party. What are the implications for practitioners?If outcomes and quality are to be measured on a consistent national basis, standard clinical assessment tools that are used as part of everyday clinical practice are necessary.

63 Background: There are no agreed national nor international criteria for referral to palliative care. Key population characteristics have been defined to aid the generalizability of research findings in palliative care clinical studies. To codify differences in key demographic factors between patients with cancer participating in the Australian national Cancer Supportive Care Clinical Studies Collaborative (CSCCSC) phase III symptom control studies and the population referred to other Australian palliative care services. Methods: This study compares two contemporaneous consecutive cohorts generated through clinical trial participation and the national palliative care clinical quality improvement registry in Australia. Age, sex, cancer diagnosis, language, and socio-economic status were compared. Results: Cohorts were people with cancer: enrolled in CSCCSC phase III clinical studies (n=902; 17 sites); and registered by the Australian national Palliative Care Outcomes Collaboration (PCOC; n=75,240; 117 sites). Participants in CSCCSC studies were younger than those of PCOC (median 71 (IQR 62, 79) versus median 73 (IQR 63, 81); p=0.003 respectively). There was no significant difference in sex (p=0.483). Patients who spoke English accounted 95.0% of enrollees in the CSCCSC group and 92.2% in the PCOC group (p = 0.004). Clinical study participants had higher socioeconomic status that the PCOC group (p=0.022). Conclusions: Overall, the slightly different demographic patterns are reflective of the differences often seen between phase III trials and the populations to whom the results will be applied. Age differences particularly need to be taken into account when considering the best way to apply each study’s findings.

Extraosseous variants of odontogenic cysts are an infrequent clinical finding, although they have a relatively indolent biological behavior compared to their intraosseous counterparts; due to their nature and clinical appearance, these lesions can be confused with multiple entities that affect soft tissues, so their diagnosis can only be achieved through surgical removal and subsequent histopathological analysis. The extraosseous/peripheral variant of calcifying odontogenic cyst (E/PCOC) has a heterogeneous clinical presentation mainly in terms of size and involvement or not of adjacent anatomical structures such as bone and teeth; in addition, there are few cases reported to date; thus, there are still clinical features to be elucidated. This report presents a child affected by E/PCOC in an unusual location, as well as its therapeutic management, which at first time was suspected of endodontic nature, due to a history of dental trauma.

Cette thèse étudie les possibilités de réduction des interférences électromagnétiques pour les convertisseurs d'électroniques de puissance utilisant des transistors GaN dans trois domaines principaux: la stratégie de contrôle, la conception des circuits imprimés ainsi que l'agencement des composants de puissance et les éléments magnétiques à haute fréquence. Sur la base d'un convertisseur Buck, l’impact de la contribution de la commutation dure et douce sur le bruit conduit généré (mode commun (CM) et mode différentiel (DM)) a été étudiée. L'effet positif de la commutation douce sur la réduction des perturbations CEM dans une gamme de fréquence spécifique a été démontré. L'impact des attributs de la conception de l'agencement a également été observé et la nécessité de l'optimiser a été soulignée. Ensuite, une étude détaillée de l'identification des éléments parasites dans un seul bras d'onduleur est présentée. Des domaines spécifiques de préoccupation ont été détaillés et examinés plus loin dans la thèse. Le flux de travail de simulation développé dans Digital Twin utilisé pour étudier l'impact des éléments de disposition individuels sur la CEM est présenté. Le banc d'essai de laboratoire utilisé pour les mesures CEM est également présenté, ainsi qu'une description des précautions nécessaires. En outre, les deux concepts clés mis en œuvre dans l'agencement - le blindage et le Power-Chip-on-Chip (PCoC) - sont présentés. Leur efficacité dans la réduction des interférences électromagnétiques de près de 20~dB a été confirmée par la simulation et l'expérimentation. Enfin, le concept d'inducteur intégré est présenté, qui peut être mis en œuvre en même temps que les solutions précédentes. L'efficacité d'un inducteur intégré planaire connecté au point central du pont a été démontrée par des études de simulation. La méthode de l'auteur pour identifier l'impédance de l'inducteur intégré et les principaux éléments parasites (en termes de CEM) a également été développée et présentée en détail. En conclusion, ce travail présente une série de solutions qui réduisent de manière significative l'EMI dans les convertisseurs à base de GaN, qui ont été validées par simulation et expérience et qui peuvent être appliquées à tous les types de convertisseurs électroniques de puissance
The thesis investigates the possibility of EMI mitigation for power electronic converters with GaN transistors in three key areas: control strategy, layout design, and integrated magnetic filter. Based on a Buck converter, the contribution of hard and soft switching to the generated conducted noise (Common Mode (CM) and Differential Mode (DM)) has been investigated. The positive effect of soft switching on EMI reduction in a specific frequency range was demonstrated. The impact of layout design attributes was also observed and the need to optimize it was highlighted. Next, a detailed study of the identification of parasitic elements in a single inverter leg is presented. Specific areas of concern were detailed and considered later in the thesis. The developed simulation workflow in Digital Twin used to study the impact of individual layout elements on EMC is presented. The laboratory test bench used for EMC measurements is also presented, together with a description of the necessary experimental precautions. Furthermore, the two key concepts implemented in the layout - shielding and Power-Chip-on-Chip (PCoC) - are presented. Their effectiveness in reducing EMI by almost 20~dB was confirmed by simulation and experiment. Finally, the Integrated Inductor concept is presented, which can be implemented together with the previous solutions. The effectiveness of a planar Integrated Inductor connected to the middle point of the bridge was demonstrated by simulation studies. The author's method for identifying the impedance of the Integrated Inductor and the key parasitic elements (in terms of EMC) has also been developed and presented in details. In conclusion, the work presents a series of solutions that significantly reduce EMI in GaN-based converters, which have been validated by simulation and experiment and can be applied to all types of power electronic converters

Abstract The prevalence of the isolated ultrasonographic finding of polycystic ovaries (PCO) in the Finnish population and among women with a history of gestational diabetes (GDM) and changes in the present carbohydrate metabolism were investigated in the present study. One aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of the recently discovered variant type LH (v-LH) in PCOS and to compare patient cohorts from Finland, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. In addition, this study attempted to evaluate the nature of the ovarian streoidogenic response of women with PCOS to exogenously administered human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG), human menotrophin (hMG) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). The effect of metformin on ovarian steroidogenesis was also studied. The prevalence of PCO was significantly higher in younger (≤ 35 years, 21.6%) than among older women (in ≥ 36 years, 7.8%). The overall prevalence of PCO in Finnish women was 14.2%. Women with previous GDM revealed a high prevalence of PCO (39.4%). The carrier frequency of the v-LHb allele in the entire study population was 18.5%. The frequency of the v-LH carrier was significantly lower in obese PCOS subjects in the Netherlands (2.0%) and Finland (4.5%). Women with previous GDM had impaired insulin sensitivity and β-cell function. They also had higher adrenal androgen secretion than the control women. Women with PCO and previous GDM had marked hyperinsulinemia which was not explained by obesity. Obese PCOS women achieved peak peripheral serum T concentrations at 48 hours after a hCG injection, preceded by peak levels of 17-OHP and E2 at 24 hours. In contrast, all steroids measured in the control women reached their maximum serum concentrations at 96 hours. HMG stimulated the production of ovarian androgens more efficiently than a urinary FSH after pituitary suppression with a gonadotrophin releasing hormone agonist (GnRHa). In conclusion, the prevalence of PCO is common in healthy Finnish women and even more common in women with a history of GDM. The ultrasonographic appearance of PCO may be a predictive factor with regards abnormal glucose tolerance during and after pregnancy and, these women should therefore be advised as to possible consequences. The high overall frequency of the v-LH allele in women in general and its low frequency in obese PCOS patients suggests that v-LH plays a role in reproductive functions and may counteract the pathogenesis of PCOS in obese individuals. The differences observed in steroid responses to hCG between normal and PCOS women might be explained by higher theca cell activity or mass in polycystic ovaries. Women with PCOS did not show a distinctly exaggerated steroidogenic response to hMG or FSH administration compared with control women. FSH administration also resulted in increased A and T production.

Polycystisktovarialsyndrom (PCOS) förekommer hos 5-10% av alla kvinnor och är den vanligaste orsaken till anovulatorisk infertilitet. Andra delar av syndromet är hyperandrogena och metabola symtom. Infertilitet behandlas med klomifencitrat. Akne och hirsutism behandlas i första hand med kombinerade p-piller med östrogenprofil. Förhöjda blodsockernivåer, hypertoni, dyslipidemi och övriga komplikationer till syndromet behandlas farmakologiskt vid behov. Hyperandrogenism och insulinresistens tycks spela en huvudroll i uppkomsten av sjukdomen. Då metformin förbättrar insulinkänsligheten, och tros kunna påverka patofysiologin, har det föreslagits som en alternativ förstahandsbehandling. Denna litteraturstudie syftade till att undersöka vilket vetenskapligt underlag som finns för att ändra behandlingsrekommendationerna vid PCOS. De studier som jämfört resultatet av metformin och klomifencitrat vid anovulatorisk infertilitet visar att klomifencitrat mer effektivt framkallar ovulation och graviditet hos kvinnor med PCOS och övervikt, men att metformin är lika effektivt hos normalviktiga kvinnor. Medan metforminbehandling är en välbeprövad och säker behandling med få biverkningar har klomifencitrat allvarliga biverkningar i form av risk för flerbörd och ovarialthyperstimuleringssyndrom. De få studier som undersökt metformins påverkan på fostret finner inga belägg för teratogena effekter. Metformin har positiva effekter på hyperandrogena symtom vid PCOS, och man har inte kunnat se någon signifikant skillnad i effekt mellan metformin och p-piller då det gäller att minska akne och hirsutism. Aim: To describe the lived experience of women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Method: Eight scientific articles of appropriate quality were found, analyzed, condensed and synthesized. Different experiences by women with PCOS were found and ordered into themes. The findings were then anchored in associated literature and discussed. Results: Four different themes were found: Feeling different; Disturbing symptoms; Searching for answers; Care treatment. Each of these themes offered areas of improvement in regard to nursing care. Conclusions: Extra attention to the psychosocial aspects of health for women with PCOS should be taken to improve nursing care. The exchange of information between nursing staff and patients needs to be better adapted to the individual informational needs of women with PCOS.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a female endocrine disorder defined by high androgen levels and presence of polycystic ovaries. PCOS is characterized by menstrual irregularities, anovulation, infertility, hyperandrogenism, insulin resistance, abdominal obesity, chronic inflammation and increased hair growth. The diagnosis is based on 2003/2004 Rotterdam criteria, which is based on the presence of the following phenotypes: anovulation, clinical and biochemical marks of hyperandrogenism and polycystic ovarian morphology. Theoretical causes could be genetical, environmental or maternal imprinting. Drosophila Melanogaster, a model used broadly in disease research, could bear promising insights to this syndrome. Besides having a lifecycle characterized by a 12 days metamorphism, these species of flies have the ecdysone (steroid) hormone, similar to the human testosterone and the body systems similar to those of the human body. This laboratory work involved the development of a PCOS-like drosophila fly model through exposure to 10mg/ml of testosterone after 24 hours of starvation. Data collection comprised measurements of weight and length, anovulation, triglyceride quantification and RT-qPCR for quantification of inflammatory and PCOS-related genes. Results showed significant differences in response to physical stress among the four groups of flies. Variation in weight and length values, as well as in fecundity, triglyceride assay and relative expression levels were also observed. Although the expression levels of inflammatory and PCOS- related genes were not significantly affected, homeostasis was clearly affected by metabolic disturbances. These observations lead to the conclusion that further experiments should be done in order to establish a more comprehensive definition of the syndrome.

A avaliação é uma das principais ferramentas do terapeuta da fala. Como qualquer ferramenta, se usada adequadamente, pode acelerar o trabalho a ser desenvolvido. Uma avaliação descuidada acarreta uma perda de tempo e energia, levando ocasionalmente a decisões diagnósticas inadequadas e a um planeamento de intervenção ineficiente (Mota, 2001). Este estudo tem como objetivo geral analisar o PCC (percentagem de consoantes corretas) em crianças dos 3 aos 5 anos de idade. Também é objetivo desta investigação verificar se existe uma correlação entre: 1) PCC e idade; 2) PCC e sexo; 3) PCC e escolaridade mais elevada dos pais. Para este efeito, foram avaliadas 34 crianças com idades compreendidas entre os 3 e os 5 anos de idade, pertencentes ao concelho de Felgueiras e Amarante. A amostra foi dividida em três grupos: G1) crianças com 3 anos (n=12); G2) crianças com 4 anos (n=9); G3) crianças com 5 anos (n=13). Para recolha dos dados da avaliação foi utilizado o Teste de Articulação CPUP: Sons em Palavras, para analisar a fala das crianças. Para realizar a avaliação fonológica, foi usada a avaliação proposta pelos autores Yavas, Hernandorena & Lamprecht (2002), que foi criado com o objetivo de eliciar a amostra mais representativa da fala da criança através da nomeação espontânea. Para o cálculo do PCC são considerados como erros as omissões, substituições e distorções. Os resultados obtidos neste estudo mostram que apenas a idade influencia os valores do PCC, enquanto o sexo e a escolaridade mais elevada dos pais não apresenta uma correlação positiva nem estatisticamente significativa. Desta forma, conclui-se que quanto mais idade têm as crianças maior é o seu PCC. Evaluation is one of the main tools of the speech therapist. Like any tool, if used properly, can accelerate the work to be done. A careless assessment entails a waste of time and energy, occasionally leading to inadequate diagnostic decisions and inefficient planning intervention (Mota, 2001). This study aims at analyzing the PCC (percentage of consonants correct) in children from 3 to 5 years old. Another objective of this research is whether there is a correlation between: 1) PCC and age, 2) PCC and sex; 3) PCC and higher parents schooling. For this purpose, we evaluated 34 children aged between 3 to 5 years of age, belonging to the municipality of Felgueiras and Amarante. The sample was divided into three groups: G1) children with 3 years old (n = 12), G2) children with 4 years old (n = 9); G3) children with 5 years old (n = 13). To collect the data evaluation test was used the Articulation CPUP: Sounds in Words, to analyze the speech of children. To perform the phonological evaluation, was used the evaluation proposed by the authors Yavas, Hernandorena & Lamprecht (2002), which was created with the goal of eliciting a more representative sample of child speech through spontaneous naming. To calculate the PCC are considered as errors the omissions, substitutions and distortions. The results of this study show that only age influences the values of the PCC, whereas sex and higher parents schooling do not show a positive correlation nor statistically significant. Thus, it is concluded that the older they are, the higher is their PCC.

The thesis aims to describe developments in the uses of planktonic foraminiferal calcite for oceanographic applications, specifically Mg/Ca ratios and foraminiferal shell weights as proxies for calcification temperature and paleo-pCO2 respectively. Sample preparation for the analysis of Mg/Ca and Sr/Ca ratios in foraminiferal calcite is investigated with the aim of defining a method that will give reproducible results and minimise signal contaminations. Each step of the cleaning procedure is scrutinised in order to gauge which are most important and which may be omitted as unnecessary and potentially detrimental to the elemental measurements being made. Success in the application of Mg/Ca-thermometry depends on the ability to quantify and compensate for any alteration of the primary signal after deposition. Compositional variations in foraminiferal calcite may be associated with partial dissolution at the seaflow. Investigation is made into the excessive scatter observed within a latitudinal transect of core-top Mg/Ca and Sr/Ca ratios and attributed to partial dissolution. Possible means of correcting or minimising the effects of such alteration are investigated and assessed. Recent interest in planktonic foraminiferal shell weight loss as a proxy for dissolution, and as such a potential means of quantifying compositional variability, demands investigation into the possibility that initial shell weight may not be constant. It is demonstrated that considerable variability does occur in the shell weights of several species of planktonic foraminifera in the modern surface ocean. It is proposed that initial shell weight is a function of calcification rate and controlled ultimately by the carbonate ion concentration, [CO3=], of ambient seawater during calcification. A first attempt is made to calibrate the effects of [CO3=] on shell weight in the modern ocean. The potential effects of anthropogenic atmospheric CO2 increases on marine calcification are then synthesised using the mineral relations between [CO3=] and calcification rate.

The Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC), created in 1992 under the auspices of the Library of Congress (LC), provides bibliographic and authority records intended to meet the cataloging needs of all libraries. The number of institutions participating in the BIBCO or Bibliographic Cooperative component of the PCC remains limited to 46 institutions. The PCC introduced a bibliographic record standard, the core level record, which emphasized a dependable description with full authority control, while providing timely access. Time savings and efficiency have been results observed for PCC libraries creating core level records. The PCC libraries are thus able to devote more resources to cataloging difficult foreign language or esoteric material often needed by library users but previously unavailable and unknown because it was in the cataloging arrearage or backlog. However, no studies examined whether non-PCC libraries accepted PCC records as readily as they accepted LC cataloging records in the OCLC Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) database. This study analyzed the acceptability of PCC records by examining how 72 various academic, public, and special libraries edited them during a two-month study period. Findings pointed to the participants' inability to identify PCC records correctly. There was also some indication that editing of notes and non-access point fields in bibliographic records continue to be a priority for some institutions. The most frequent significant change to the PCC records was the addition of Dewey decimal classification (DDC) numbers by public library participants and the addition of LC classification numbers for academic and special library participants. This modification was observed as the main difference between LC and PCC records. Overall, 65.3% of PCC records were used with no editing changes and 97.4% of MARC fields examined were not edited. Results revealed a correlation between the absence of a needed classification number and personnel level handling copy cataloging. An analysis of editing changes in full versus core PCC records was presented. Recommendations for library administrators, cataloging managers, OCLC, and the PCC Policy Operations Committee concerning authority verification, classification number verification, PCC record identification and cataloging record source field, and monitoring copy cataloging work to promote efficiency were provided.

Review question / Objective: This systematic review aims to evaluate the efficacy of progestin-primed ovarian stimulation (PPOS) on reproductive outcomes in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) undergoing assisted reproductive techniques. Condition being studied: PCOS is a common endocrine disorder that can cause infertility in women of childbearing age. The PPOS protocol, which involves oral progestins with gonadotropin (Gn), has been shown to be effective and safe in treating patients with PCOS. However, the question of whether PPOS provides a significant benefit over conventional GnRH analogue protocols in PCOS patients is still controversial.

Precombustion chamber (PCC) ignition is a common method for extending the lean limit and reducing combustion variability in large bore natural gas engines. An important component that fails the most and requires regular replacement, besides the spark plug, is the checkvalve. In this program the use of an electronic valve for monitoring fuel to the PCC instead of the checkvalve is investigated. Other methods of improving PCC performance are also studied, such as nitrogen enrichment and PCC nozzle design. Additionally, emissions formation in the PCC is evaluated through the use of a separate pressure transducer in the PCC and a fast sample valve that extracts gas from the PCC. The electronic PCC valve was installed and used to meter fuel to the PCC in a Cooper-Bessemer GMV-4TF large bore natural gas engine. Electronic PCC valve parameters, injection duration, timing, and pressure, were optimized.

Further reductions in NOx emissions while maintaining optimum engine performance can only be obtained by improving engine combustion control at the cylinder level. This requires cylinder level sensors capable of continuously monitoring combustion performance in both the main combustion chamber (MCC) and the pre-combustion chamber (PCC) and electronically actuated valves that can respond to those measurements. Until recently, in-PCC combustion measurements on spark ignited engines were only possible in the laboratory using very expensive pressure sensors with extremely short lives. Ion Sense offers a non-intrusive, robust and cost effective method to monitor in-PCC combustion in the field on a continuous basis. Derived from automotive technology, ion sense utilizes post ignition ionization measurements from a standard spark plug. When measured from a spark plug mounted in a PCC Ion Sense provides a wealth of previously unavailable information on misfire, instability, flame initiation, early flame propagation, in PCC air/fuel ratio, etc. This work investigated the use of ion sense data collected in the PCC to monitor and control in PCC air/fuel ratio, main chamber air/fuel ratio and the timing of combustion events in both. This paper reports on the results of this testing as well as describing the optimization strategy developed which is applicable to the full range of pipeline engines.
