Résumé Bonvalet Catherine et Lelièvre Éva. - Mobilité en France et à Paris depuis 1945. Bilan résidentiel d'une génération. L'INED dispose de 2 enquêtes rétrospectives, Tune nationale sur l'histoire migratoire, professionnelle et familiale des générations 1911-1935 (enquête 3B) et l'autre sur la Région parisienne concernant les générations 1926-1935 (enquête PDP). Il a donc semblé intéressant, à côté de bilans migratoires tirés de recensements, de dresser le bilan résidentiel d'une génération et d'évaluer à partir d'un groupe d'individus l'impact de Paris dans le processus de migration. Le nombre moyen de logements habités plus d'un an s'élève dans les 2 enquêtes à 3 logements à 45 ans. Des différences apparaissent nettement selon l'état matrimonial et le nombre d'enfants. Plus l'individu a connu d'événements familiaux, plus sa mobilité a été forte. La particularité de la région parisienne s'affirme nettement quand on analyse le statut d'occupation. Si les Parisiens possèdent moins souvent leur résidence principale, ils sont en fait autant propriétaires, mais la constitution de leur patrimoine immobilier ne passe pas forcément par l'acquisition de leur résidence principale.

Abstract In spring 1945, a small group of students, among them Serge Nigg and Pierre Boulez, protested during the first performances in liberated Paris of the neoclassical works Stravinsky had composed in America. Whereas Boulez's biographers have interpreted the student protests as a sign of Renéé Leibowitz's successful promotion of serialism in France, scholars of the Cold War have seen the 1945 concerts as a precursor to Stravinsky's participation in the 1952 L'ŒŒuvre du XXe sièècle, a festival in Paris indirectly funded by the CIA. These interpretations subsume the immediate postwar period in France within a synchronic view of the early Cold War era. But the 1945 protests against Stravinsky were not about the decisive embrace of a single musical style; rather, they were about the desire of young French composers to play an active role in shaping the postwar future of music in France. In 1945, Nigg——and not Boulez——represented the aesthetic opinions of a generation of French composers who had grown up during the German occupation of Paris and the political aspirations of those who, like Nigg, flocked to the French Communist Party at war's end. Nigg's participation in the 1945 Stravinsky debates gives us occasion to examine his earliest musical compositions and the political opinions he would express with increasing ideological fervor in the 1950s. Although in verbal pronouncements he supported socialist realism, Nigg's rare and complex use of a French folk tune in his 1954 Piano Concerto betrays his ambivalence about the Soviet demand for communist composers to reject "falsely cosmopolitan tendencies" in favor of their national cultural heritage. Having rejected in 1945 both Stravinsky's neoclassicism and French nationalism (the latter tainted by associations with Vichy during the occupation), Nigg had to choose in the early Cold War between his aesthetic and political loyalties.

Le filtre parisien Ce deuxième article basé sur la confrontation des données des deux enquêtes de FINED, présente en détail les résultats que l'on peut tirer d'une mise en perspective de données locales dans le contexte national. Des particularismes régionaux sont mis en évidence ainsi que le rôle primordial de la Région parisienne dans l'organisation des migrations mais aussi, dans la structuration économique cl sociale de l'espace national. Le rôle de filtre de la Région parisienne est analysé : elle attire les jeunes provinciaux, mais laisse rapidement repartir une partie d'entre eux le plus souvent vers leur région d'origine. Les caractéristiques familiales des résidents sont d'une part la résultante de migrations différentielles des couples et des célibataires, d'autre part déterminées par d'autres facteurs comme la fécondité (cette dernière est plus basse en Région parisienne que l'on soit natif de cette région ou migrant). La comparaison non seulement des trajectoires résidentielles des individus mais également leur trajectoire sociale, montre combien mobilité géographique et mobilité sociale sont deux phénomènes liés. Paris apparaît nettement comme le lieu privilégié des réussites sociales.

Victor Cădere (born 1891) was a Romanian lawyer, civil servant, diplomat and politician. He participated as an officer in the war with Bulgaria (1913) and in the I-st World War (1916–1918). Then he was at the peace conference in Paris as part of the Romanian delegation. In the years 1919–1921 he was dealing with the repatriation of Romanians from the USA and Russia. After returning to the country, in 1925, he began an academic career, which he continued with interruptions until his death in France in 1981. At that time, he was an activist of the peasant party and a member of the Chamber of Deputies. In the years 1930–1932 he held high official positions in the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of the Interior. In 1932, he began his career as a diplomat. His first post was Warsaw, where he was to watch over the matters of the Romanian-Polish alliance securing both countries against the threat from the USSR. Before he actually took office, however, he became the Romanian negotiator on the non-aggression pact with the Soviet Union, but risked Nicolae Titulescu – an influential diplomat and politician who opposed them and soon became Cădere’s superior, i.e. the minister of foreign affairs. After settling in Warsaw, the new MP tried to work for the development of the alliance. However, he encountered obstacles on the part of Titulescu, who wanted to loosen his ties with the Republic of Poland and bring him closer to Moscow. This affected the fate of Cădere, who was dismissed in July 1935. His diplomatic career slowed down. He took up another post – in Belgrade – only after the fall of Titulescu in 1936, then he was a member of parliament in Lisbon (1941–1944). From 1945 to 1967 he stayed in Romania. In the years 1952- 1956 he was imprisoned by the communist authorities. In 1967 he remained in exile in France.

Pour observer l'évolution de l'enfonce française depuis 1945, je propose, en prenant des raccourcis brutaux, une courte promenade non pas à travers sa sociologie ou son anthropologie mais à travers sa représentation cinématographique en m'arrêtant sur quelques séquences où les metteurs en scène ont fait directement ou indirectement intervenir l'Amérique. Une lente promenade serait pleine d'embûches : d'une part de quels enfants parle-t-on ? Des riches, des pauvres, ceux de Dijon, de Paris, de la campagne ou ceux des banlieues chaudes et à quelle période?

Following the German occupation of the French capital city, an idea sprang up in the Polish intellectual circles to intensify propagation of Polish culture and knowledge of Poland among young Polish and French people. This concept was to be implemented in the Polish Library in Paris by a series of lectures organized by the Department of Science of the Polish YMCA1 in France in late 1944. The success of the lectures encouraged the Polish Library to launch the Polish College with the goal of making available to primarily Polish youth, studying and working in Paris, the achievements of Polish science and culture and to prepare the young people for work in Poland. The curriculum was developed and, as expected, the College’s operations were financed by the YMCA. Wacław Grzybowski, Ph.D., a former ambassador of Poland to the USSR, was appointed director of the College. The lecturers included illustrious intellectuals: priest Augustyn Jakubisiak, Ph.D., Franciszek Pułaski, Zygmunt Dygat, Irena Gałęzowska, Wieńczysław d’Ercville and many other. The College enjoyed considerable popularity among the students. The changing political situation in Poland put a stop to the promising operations of the College. To some extent, it was continued in the Catholic University of Paris ( the Institut Catholique de Paris). Since 1945, the University hosted the Centre for Slavic Studies where the Polish Section (Section Polonaise) was established. It is worth emphasising that an ambitious attempt at establishing studies for young Poles abroad was made in Madrid, on the initiative of the Polish ambassador, count Józef Potocki, representing in Spain the Polish government in London.

L’enquête menée entend contribuer à une histoire sociale de la science politique française au travers d’un cycle de formation doctorale : celui mis en place par la Fondation nationale des sciences politiques (FNSP) à l’Institut d’études politiques (IEP) de Paris au milieu des années 1950 sous le nom de « cycle supérieur d’études politiques ». La création de ce cycle, comme les choix pédagogiques qui y sont associés, permet de retracer les conflits institutionnels qui existent à cette époque entre la FNSP, née en 1945, et le monde des facultés de droit (notoirement celle de Paris) qui entendent revendiquer alors le monopole de l’enseignement de la science politique en France.

Indissociable du processus de construction identitaire des individus, la sexualité fascine, obsède, passionne, d'autant plus qu'elle est au cœur des préoccupations politiques, avec les questions de consentement, de dignité, de moralité. Organisée autour de la thématique de la rencontre amoureuse et sexuelle, cette thèse a pour objectif une première approche en sciences humaines et sociales de la sexualité masculine juvénile dans la France des Trente Glorieuses. Dans le contexte du triomphe du sentiment amoureux au 20e siècle, d'une émancipation féminine et d'une visibilité homosexuelle de plus en plus grandes, de la séparation de la procréation et de la sexualité, mais aussi de la sexualité et de l'affectivité, la rencontre de l'autre est consubstantielle au lien social, au lien amoureux et sexuel. Ce travail en aborde quelques étapes fondatrices et prend le contre-pied de l'écriture d'une histoire linéaire de la libération des comportements sexuels et des normes de genre, dont la thèse principale est le passage dans les années 1960-1970 d'une société de répression, de refoulement et de domination masculine à une société sexuellement libérée et égalitaire. Car s'il y a bien quelque chose dont les jeunes - et les autres - ne se sont pas libérés, c'est de la violence de la transmission de ces normes, en perpétuelle recomposition, pensées comme inscrites dans une « nature », et désormais dans une « psychologie ». Y compris pour les garçons, si la liberté de leur parole et de leur corps est grande, les gestes restent contraints, codifiés. Les trajectoires s'individualisent, participent de la subjectivité, mais restent dépendantes de scénarii sexuels socialement déterminés.

En 1945 l'activite picturale s'est vivement amplifiee. Dans l'ambiance particuliere de reouverture du musee du louvre et des galeries, les tendances modernes et classiques sont toutes bien accueillies. Parmi les expositions, la tendance de l'art abstrait a le vent en poupe. Les jeunes artistes travaillent sous l'influence du fauvisme et du cubisme, de leurs aines matisse et picasso. Les principaux peintres de cette deuxieme generation de l'art abstrait sont alors bazaine, esteve et lapicque, qui exposent a la galerie louis carre, jean fautrier avec sa serie des otages a la galerie de rene drouin, et les participants a l'exposition de l'art concret ou s'affirme l'abstraction geometrique. L'emergence de l'abstraction lyrique a paris en 1945 resulte a la fois du cubisme, du fauvisme et du surrealisme, dont les recherches et les apports sont ressaisis en de nouvelles formes par les jeunes peintres abstraitsIn 1945 the artistic activity has briskly amplified. In the particular reopening atmosphere of the museum of the louvre and galleries, classic and modern trends are all well welcomed. Among exhibitions, the tendency of the abstract art has the wind in stern. The young artists work under the influence of the fauvism and the cubism, their elders matisse and picasso. The main painters of this second generation of the abstract art are then bazaine, esteve and lapicque, that expose to the gallery louis carre, john fautrier with its series of otages to the gallery of rene drouin, and participants to the exhibition of the concrete art where is asserting the geometrical abstraction. The emergence of the lyrical abstraction to paris in 1945 results at once from the cubism, the fauvism and the surrealism, whose researches and contributions are recaptureed in new forms by the young abstract painters

L'occupation allemande et le régime de Vichy font culminer en France la crise des valeurs humanistes. En art, la situation doit beaucoup à l'héritage de l'avant-guerre, mais des ruptures d'intensité et de nature modifient la scène artistique. L'art, objet d'orgueil patriotique, est accusé de refléter et d'alimenter la décadence moderne : l'absence d'idéal, l'individualisme et la démocratie. Sous la révolution nationale, il devient un instrument privilégié de redressement et de rénovation, après un retour à l'ordre et à la tradition. Le Secrétariat général des beaux-arts envisage une politique largement consensuelle en faveur de la tradition , du beau métier, de l'art monumental et des thèmes édifiants. Mais le milieu artistique, par nature hostile au dirigisme d'Etat, résiste aux positions officielles en matière de corporatisme et d'exclusion. En outre, très peu d'artistes acceptent de servir le service artistique du Maréchal attaché à sa personne. Si peu d'artistes entrent dans la résistance, certains créent des oeuvres subversives, tandis que la majorité est attentiste et nourrit de sa production les imaginaires d'un public exceptionnellement nombreux à fréquenter les lieux d'art. Le régime nazi, quant à lui, procède à ses propres démonstrations artistiques, encourage par les ultracistes francais comme Rebatet, et conforte par le voyage en Allemagne d'artistes reconnus : vlaminck, Derain, Despiau, etc. Mais les autorités nazies se consacrent essentiellement à l'exclusion des artistes juifs et francs-maçons, tandis qu'elles tolèrent l'exposition d'oeuvres "dégénérées". Enjeu pour des pouvoirs autoritaires visant au contrôle de la société, et exutoire pour une population dans l'attente d'un retour "à la normale", l'art et ses modalités d'existence servent à leur manière à éclairer l'histoire de cette époqueIn France, the humanistic values crisis culminated during the German occupation and the Vichy regime. During this period , art inherited much of the pre-war situation. But disruptions, both in intensity and nature modified the artistical scene. Art, as an expression of patriotic pride was is considered as a reflection of modern decadence : the lack of ideal, individualism, and democracy. Under the "national revolution" art became an instrument of development and revival after a return to order and tradition. In many respects, the "Secretariat general des beaux-arts" thought of a widely approved art policy magnifying the tradition, the fine craft, the monumentalism and the edifying subjects. The artistic world, by nature reluctant to state dirigism, resisted against the governmental positions concerning corporatism and exclusion policy. Besides, few artists accepted to serve the "service artistique du Marechal" which was attached to his person. If some artists entered the French resistance movement, some created subversive works while the majority of them staid aside and bred on its production the fancy of the many people visiting various art places. The German regime, on its side, proceeded with its own exhibitions, being encouraged by French ultras as Rebatet, and being comforted by the German journey of some famous artists : Vlaminck, Derain, Despiau, etc. Meanwhile the nazi authorities spent most of their time on their exclusion policy towards jewish and mason artists. Censorship was discontinued against the exhibition of works considered as "degenerated". Art was a stake for an authoritarian power aiming at controlling society, and an outlet for a population looking forward to returning back to normality

L’objet de la recherche est l’analyse du processus de conception de l’image architecturale et urbaine parisienne depuis la période d’Occupation. La recherche place d’abord les politiques urbaines parisiennes dans une perspective historique afin de situer les scansions politiques de la seconde moitié du vingtième siècle. Elle s’attache ensuite à comparer les objectifs politiques et les stratégies d’aménagement présentés dans les programmes des projets régionaux et communaux. L’exploration de l’intervention de la culture architecturale dans l’affinement du dessin réglementaire permet alors de comprendre les évolutions des figures et des formes. Elles suivent en effet les itérations des dialectiques qui traversent l’histoire de l’architecture et tendent à composer une œuvre parisienne. Dans le cadre de l’extension patrimoniale, les projets urbains en arrivent ainsi à qualifier les espaces parisiens par des identités spatiales qui participent à un mouvement d’esthétisation de Paris organisé par la réinterprétation de l’histoire. La dépopulation et l’apopulation de la Capitale, la permanence des orientations stratégiques et les projets de qualifications patrimoniales des espaces qui se répondent sur la longue durée permettent enfin de statuer sur le processus de monumentalisation de Paris.

La peinture des années 1944-1965 se caractérise par l'épaisseur de la pâte, les effets de texture, l'usage de matériaux variés. De fait, l'historiographie insiste sur la matérialité pour décrire la pratique artistique au lendemain de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Mais un examen plus attentif montre que l'existence de la matérialité est alors problématique. Cette étude met à l'épreuve l'évidence première en la confrontant à la réception critique, afin de cerner sous quelles conditions se déploie la matérialité et quelle latitude lui est accordée. La plongée dans les oeuvres éclaire sur la nature de la matière, sur les résonances qu'on lui demande d'éveiller, sur l'impossibilité qui lui est faite de demeurer un simple matériau plastique. Dans l'échange entre les oeuvres et leurs commentaires se tisse un imaginaire de la matière où se cristallisent différents mythes. Les épaisseurs de pâte deviennent le prétexte d'un dialogue avec le cosmos au bout duquel la peinture finit par être oubliée.

Les differentes formes de statistiques, topographies medicales, etats sanitaires, recensement de 1891 et casiers sanitaires sont examines. L'analyse porte sur la definition des concepts et des resultats. Un parallele est etabli avec les outils juridiques de lutte contre l'insalubrite, et la representation politique des ilots insalubres. Cette these montre dans la periode cnsideree des successions de cycles de pensee "intimistes" et "environnementalistes". Elle montre comment les etudes urbaines contemporaines ont fini par adopter une perspective intimiste mal adaptee a l'elaboration de projets urbains portant sur des quartiers ou des ilots entiersThe aim of this thesis is the study on the measurement of conditions of lodgings in paris between 1850 abd 1945 and its links with the public intervention against insalubrit. Different forms of statistics, medical topographies, sanitary states, census of 1891 and sanitary rack are investigated. The aim of this analysis is the study of the definition of concepts and result. We constats a same evolution in the juridical tools of struggle against the insalubrity, and the political representation of the unsanitary islets. This thesis shows in the considered period some successions of cycles of "intimistic" and "environnementalistic" thougt. This thesis shows how the urban contemporary studies concluded by adopting an intimistic perspective bad adapted to the elaboration of urban projects carrying on some districts or some whole islets

A partir d'une étude bibliométrique des traductions, d'une biographie collective des traducteurs et commentateurs des littératures étrangères, et d'un corpus de préfaces, d'articles et de synthèses portant sur les littératures étrangères, cette thèse établit que le champ intellectuel français des années 1880-1935 connut, du fait de l'importation littéraire, une transformation en profondeur, dont le surgissement dans l'espace public des écrivains nationalistes fut un signe frappant. Suscitant des réactions violentes et accélérant la crise du modernisme, l'importation s'institutionnalisa comme un système de production de la différence, qui contribua à la nationalisation du débat intellectuel et à la consécration de la figure de 1 'homme de lettres spécialiste de l'esprit des peuples, ce qui contribua décisivement à la puissance d'attraction de Paris comme capitale culturelle, non pas de la littérature autonome, mais comme modèle de la littérature nationale, susceptible d'attirer. Ceux des écrivains qui souhaitaient nationaliser leur littérature.

Les internes et anciens internes en médecine des hôpitaux de Paris représentent, entre 1918 et 1945, la quintessence de la hiérarchie médicale. Issus d'un concours très sélectif, les internes en exercice bénéficient de quatre ans de formation en milieu hospitalier. Ils occuperont par la suite des postes de spécialistes ou de consultants à Paris et en province. Ou ils accéderont aux fonctions prestigieuses dans les hôpitaux ou à la Faculté de médecine. Les années vingt et trente sont marquées par des tensions financières qui font craindre pour le statut libéral de la médecine. La concurrence est interprétée comme la conséquence de la présence de médecins étrangers et juifs et de l'emprise de l'état. Un engagement élitiste et contestataire répond à un malaise réel. Les médecins réservent un accueil enthousiaste à Vichy qui leur offre l'exclusion des étrangers et des juifs, ainsi que l'ordre des médecins. Mais les difficultés matérielles et les problèmes éthiques créent la désaffection. Exclusion et déportation frappent lourdement. L'internat prend la tête de la résistance médicale, ce qui l'amène au premier plan lors de la Libération.

With the end of the war in Europe, the principal task of ANCXF became the management of German naval disarmament, alongside its ongoing logistical oversight of the liberated ports whose repair and re-opening were vital to the supply lines of the Allied forces amassed in Europe. Their move from France into Germany, on 15 June 1945, marked the transition from liberation to occupation. It also changed the nature of the Wrens’ work somewhat, and their social and cultural lives considerably. Minden, in Westphalia, became the site of Admiral Burrough’s (Ramsay’s replacement as ANCXF) headquarters in Germany. The reports of Joan Prior and her fellow Wrens on the bomb damage, hunger and destitution throughout Holland and Germany brought home for the first time the scale of the ravages of war and its bitter legacy. At first, their base compound was heavily guarded and strict orders were issued forbidding fraternisation with locals. Later there is more freedom and opportunity to explore, locally and regionally. Joan is as fascinated with the scenic route to attend a court martial in Plӧn as she is with the celebrated landscape of the Harz Mountains on a short break with her close companion Ginge. And having left behind the convenient pleasures of Paris, Brussels becomes the next best thing. If greater freedom to travel as ‘tourists’ was one development of this strange post-conflict occupation, another was the semi-official encouragement for Wrens to provide entertainment (at the very least as dance partners) for the locally-stationed allied troops - ‘something for the boys’ as Joan writes home. Although there was no let-up in the pressure of their work, from the typing pool to the camp swimming pool this was, by then, war work of a very different kind. As VJ-Day gave occasion for the historic Naval order to ‘Splice the Mainbrace’, and war was finally over, Joan Prior’s attentions, like those of her fellow Wrens, turned to demobilisation and post-war careers. The book concludes with reflections on these Wrens’ contributions to narratives about women’s war work and play. It considers the legacy of the experiences of the ordinary women who became ‘Ramsay’s Wrens’, and thus contributed so much to the extraordinary events of the liberation of Europe, from conception to conclusion.

AbstractThe movement known as Lettrism (Lettrisme) was founded in Paris in 1947, by the Franco-Romanian artist Isidore Isou (1925–2007). One of the central tenets of Lettrism is that societies develop not because of the human instinct for survival, but because of the desire to create. More than this, if creativity is the highest form of action, and art its most visible form, then humanity is in charge of history. In this way, the artist takes the place of God, the first creator or artist. This philosophy takes visual form in the so-called “Hypergraphic Novels” created by Isou—a new form of artistic expression that would take writing, painting and thought beyond even Joyce’s Finnegans Wake (Joyce’s book was an endless source of inspiration for Isou). The aim of this chapter is to examine these works and, most importantly, to investigate how Isou brought the culture of Jewish mysticism to the Western avant-garde, an argument that fundamentally changes our understanding of movements such as Situationism, which were directly rooted in Lettrisme.

Abstract In 1945 France was a great power that had come within an ace of extinction. In 1940 it had suffered the worst defeat in its history, overwhelmed within the space of six weeks. It had been occupied by the Germans (and in small part by the Italians) for four years, the so-called unoccupied zone in the south itself invaded in November 1942. Despite the internal Resistance and combats of the Free French, it was liberated only with the help of the Allies, and was lucky to escape an Allied military administration of the kind that was imposed ort Germany. Defeat was compounded by the time the Allies took to recognize de Gaulle’s provisional government as the legitimate government of France. The USA in particular had long hoped that the Vichy government would at some point end its policy of collaboration with Germany and swing onto its side. Not until after the Liberation of Paris in August 1944 was the French Committee of National Liberation officially recognized by the USA, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union, and France admitted to the Security Council of the newly formed United Nations along with these three powers and China. Even then, France was not admitted to the secret talks of the Allies about the post-war settlement.

Résumé: Né à Bakou en 1913 Georges Candilis est un architecte d’origine grecque qui étudie à l’Ecole Supérieure Polytechnique d’Athènes où il rencontre Le Corbusier en 1933 lors du 4e congrès des CIAM. Arrivé à Paris en 1945 il intègre l’Atelier de Le Corbusier où il travaille exclusivement sur les études et le chantier de l’Unité d’Habitation de Marseille. Après avoir été chargé de représenter Le Corbusier au 7e CIAM à Bergamo en 1949 Candilis va se rendre au Maroc où il va construire des nombreuses opérations en qualité de directeur de l’ATBAT Afrique et de membre du groupe GAMMA. Il va se révéler un des acteurs du Team X assurant le passage des CIAM au Team X dont il organisera 5 réunions entre 1960 et 1977. De retour en France en 1955 Candilis va s’associer avec les architectes Woods et Josic. L’équipe va remporter le concours Million et construire près de 4000 logements à Bagnols sur Cèze, Toulouse et en région parisienne. D’autres concours vont suivre en France et à l’étranger, l’équipe construira ainsi l’université libre de Berlin. Par la suite Candilis assure seul la mission d’architecte en chef de la station de Leucate Barcares (1962-1976) et entre 1970 et 1978 il est chargé de plusieurs projets au Moyen Orient. Parallèlement Candilis est impliqué dans la diffusion de l’architecture dès 1953 comme membre du comité de rédaction de revues et dans l’enseignement en qualité de professeur à partir de 1963. After being appointed to represent Le Corbusier at the 7th CIAM in Bergamo in 1949 Candilis will travel to Morocco where he will build many operations as Director of ATBAT Africa and a member of the GAMMA group. It will be one of the actors of Team X and ensure the transition from CIAM to Team X for which he will hold 5 meetings between 1960 and 1977. Back in France in 1955 Candilis will partner with architects Alexis Josic and Shadrach Woods. The team will win the Million competition and build nearly 4,000 housing units in Bagnols sur Cèze, Toulouse and around Paris. Other competitions will follow in France and abroad, the team will thus build the Free University in Berlin. Subsequently Candilis assumes alone the chief architect mission of Leucate Barcares station (1962-1976) and between 1970 and 1978 he was responsible for several projects in the Middle East. In parrallel Candilis is involved in the diffusion of architecture since 1953 as an editorial board member of reviews and in architectural education with a grade of Professor since 1963. The paper analyzes Ilya Ehrenbourg’s novel “The Fall of Parisˮ (1942) against the background of synchronic and diachronic cultural contexts. The author pays special attention to the mythologization of Paris from the middle of the 19th century and to the ideological consequences of the country’s defeat in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. The work shows the connection of the writer’s novel with the cultural background of France “between two warsˮ. The novelist’s polemical dialogue with Jean Giraudoux on the Franco-German value-cultural collisions is demonstrated. It is concluded that for Ehrenbourg, as for a number of his Western brethren and recent researchers, the fall of Paris in 1940 was a sign of the end of the entire traditional West of Modern Times, and more specifically, the era of Modernism.

Abstract: The definition of the Modulor as a set of measurements obtained through “universal” rules for composition of the new architecture has a long and complex development, stemming from a combination of studies in architecture, geometry and mathematics, but also from approximation and intuition. The process began in Paris in 1920, was completed in 1946 in New York and its results were published in an autobiographical vein in 1950 in the book entitled Le Modulor completed in 1955 by the book Le Modulor II. In his trip to New York in 1946 as French delegate for the project of the United Nations’ headquarters, his urgency to define the Modulor responded to an immediate need: to create a simple tool and a compositional principle to be applied to the United States’ building programme and to UN reconstruction and recovery programs. Unfortunately Le Corbusier did not manage to find a patron in America. He was unable to apply the Modulor in the USA. Not so in Europe, where work started on building the Unités d’habitation in Marseilles. Resumen: La definición del Modulor como un conjunto de medidas obtenidas a través de reglas "universales" para la composición de la nueva arquitectura tiene un largo y complejo desarrollo, derivada de una combinación de estudios de arquitectura, geometría y matemáticas, sino también de aproximación y intuición. El proceso comenzó en París en 1920, se completó en 1946 en Nueva York y sus resultados se publicaron en el libro titulado Le Modulor completado en 1955 por el libro Le Modulor II. En su viaje a Nueva York en 1946 como delegado francés para el proyecto de la sede para las Naciones Unidas, la urgencia de definir el Modulor respondió a una necesidad inmediata: para crear una instrumento fàcil y un principio compositivo que se aplicará al programa de construcción de los Estados Unidos y para los programas de reconstrucción de la ONU. Desafortunadamente Le Corbusier no encontró un patrón en América. No fue capaz de aplicar el Modulor en los EE.UU.. The fine arts artist Liudmyla Kozhokar had professional studies in Ukraine: the Arts Studio in Kherson (1975–1978) and the Ukrainian Polygraphic Institute „I. Fyodorov” in Lvov (1978–1983). Since 1984, Liudmyla Kozhokar participates in fine art exhibitions in Chisinau and abroad. Since then, the artist has collaborated with various Moldovan publishing houses, combining publishing with teaching in the field of fine arts. Since 1999 Liudmyla Kozhokar is a full member of the UAP of the Republic of Moldova, and since 2001 – a member of the A.I.A.P. UNESCO, Paris, France. Liudmyla Kozhokar’s works are in the collections of the National Art Museum of Moldova and in private ones in Romania, the Republic of Moldova, France, USA, Iraq, Italy, Germany, Japan, England, etc. The graphic designer illustrated books of different kinds: ABC books, textbooks, children’s stories, encyclopedic literature, etc. Liudmyla Kozhokar perceives each graphic book separately, finding new plastic formulas and stylistic methods, delving into the text and studying it to the last sentence.

The Upper Paleolithic in Switzerland is so far only known by the Magdalenian (ca. 18000 12000 BP). Only in seven of the about fifty Magdalenian sites known in Switzerland pieces of portable art were found (Braun, 2019). The most well-known Swiss site where portable art was found is the Kesslerloch. According to Hneisen (1993) Swiss Magdalenian portable art can be divided into two groups: engravings and figurative sculpture. Some of them are decorated either with signs or animal figures. The engravings are mostly on rein-deer antlers, but also on bones, stone and jet. The majority of the engravings are on objects of utility as btons percs, spear points and other tools. In addition to figurative themes such as animals and a possible animal-human representation, there are mainly signs and other ornamental patterns (Bosinski, 1982 Braun, 2019 Hneisen, 1993). The term figurative sculptures is used to describe objects of utility, some of which are sculpted, such as spear thrower ends decorated with horse heads, so-called spindle-shaped sculptures and very stylized female statuettes. Apart from a musk ox head from the Kesslerloch, no other animal sculptures have yet been found in Switzerland. The figurative sculptures are less frequent than the engravings (Bosinski, 1982 Braun, 2019 Hneisen, 1993). Numerous works of portable art in Switzerland are similar to works of portable art of Southwest France and of the French Pyrenees, as f.i. the sculptured spearthrowers (Bandi, Delporte, 1984 Bosinski, 1982 Braun, 2019 Garrod, 1955 Leesch et al., 2019 Stodiek, 1993). Resumen: Con la Unidad de Habitación marsellesa, el Atelier Le Corbusier transformaba su personal y métodos. Recurrentemente, se ha denominado a ésta como la fase del Grand Atelier, en cuyo ocaso surgieron nuevos desafíos y elementos para un “espacio inefable”. De límites imprecisos, esa Búsqueda Paciente implicaba un estado de ánimo transicional que confrontaba a Le Corbusier con sus propios métodos y con algunos de sus colaboradores, a los que peyorativamente atribuyó el apodo de dattiers (datileras), debido a su presunta arrogancia y baja productividad. Este trabajo reconstruye los principales aspectos del paso de algunos colaboradores suramericanos de Le Corbusier por París entre 1948 y 1959. Su participación fue larga e intensa, alcanzando en ocasiones el estatus de coordinadores y abordando obras en todas las escalas. Aún cuando, entre ellos, sólo Augusto Tobito fue directamente calificado como dattier, sus colegas colombianos compartían algo de su rebeldía, autonomía o destreza; de ahí que les hagamos extensivo ese apelativo. Así pretendemos construir un relato que contrarreste las abundantes narrativas sobre proyectos e influencia del franco-suizo en territorio andino. Abstract: With Marseille Housing Unit, the Atelier Le Corbusier began a transformation of its staff and methods. Frequently, this phase is known as Le Grand Atelier, receiving new challenges during its ending, and conceiving new elements for an “ineffable space”. With undefined boundaries, the Patient Research involved a transitional frame of mind opposing Le Corbusier to his own proceedings and to some of his collaborators. Pejoratively, the master named them as dattiers (datepalms), due to their alleged arrogance and low productivity. This work reconstructs several aspects of the internship of some South American collaborators on Le Corbusier at Paris between 1948 and 1959. Their participation was extended and intense, allowing them to reach, in some cases, the status of coordinators, and engaging works in all the scales. Even though just Augusto Tobito was directly called as dattier, his Colombian coworkers shared his rebellion, autonomy or skills. That is why we also use that adjective for them. Walker Evans (1903-1975) es una figura central de lo que se ha llamado el “estilo documental”, en especial por el papel que tuvo en el seno del proyecto emprendido por la Farm Security Administration durante los años treinta. Evans fue despedido de la FSA muy tempranamente, pero su trabajo constituye el núcleo del proyecto y la base del estilo documental norteamericano. A lo largo de esta comunicación indicaremos las fuentes europeas de las que este surgió, entre las que se encuentra la literatura y la fotografía del entorno de las vanguardias, en especial del surrealismo francés. Mostraremos cómo la fotografía de Evans surge en un medio totalmente europeo y bebe de dos fuentes completamente distintas: En primer lugar, está la literatura, especialmente la literatura francesa encarnada en dos figuras fundamentales: el poeta Baudelaire, del cual extraerá el espíritu propio del flâneur, y Flaubert, figura clave del realismo exacerbado. El método de Flaubert será incorporado por Evans de modo natural, como una prolongación involuntaria de su fracasada actividad literaria. Walker Evans estableció una estrecha relación con la literatura francesa de vanguardia a través de sus lecturas, primero, en la biblioteca universitaria del Williams College y, más tarde, durante sus tres años de trabajo en la New York Public Library. En estas instituciones leyó a Baudelaire, a Gide y al resto de los escritores franceses más innovadores. Esta relación se hizo más estrecha aún durante la larga estancia en París de la que disfrutó los años 1926-1927. Aunque la estancia en Francia no le reportó ningún beneficio a su casi inexistente prosa, su experiencia europea y el contacto con la vanguardia literaria que esta le procuró han de tenerse en cuenta a la hora de entender su desarrollo posterior como fotógrafo, hecho que la crítica norteamericana tiende a minusvalorar a la hora de analizar su obra, que prefiere entender como algo pura e intrínsecamente estadounidense. Pero, como veremos, Evans mismo desmiente este acercamiento a su trabajo. En 1927 regresa a los Estados Unidos, abandonando definitivamente la escritura. Cuando comienza a fotografiar, la atención a los objetos comunes y a lo ordinario presentes en la literatura de las vanguardias serán inmediatamente el origen de las listas de temas de su trabajo, centrado, en línea con Mac Orlan, Benjamin y el surrealismo, en “los desechos de lo cotidiano” y en los signos urbanos: la publicidad y las señales, los maniquíes… En segundo lugar, la fotografía, cuyos referentes más directos son Brady y, especialmente, el francés Atget, con cuya obra entabló contacto en ambientes muy influidos por el surrealismo. También asimiló estrategias de la fotografía constructivista soviética y alemana de vanguardia, especialmente en sus estudios de las potencialidades geométricas de las grandes estructuras arquitectónicas.

El propósito del trabajo es dar a conocer la existencia de este campo denominado de internamiento en el Béarn, desde los años 1939 a 1945. En concreto en la población de Gurs, un pequeño pueblo, en el Pirineo Atlántico francés. Y del Memorial obra de Dani Karavan. Tras la derrota militar del ejército republicano se produce un exilio masivo - se cifra en medio millón de personas tras la caída de Barcelona el 26 de enero de 1939-, del ejército y población de la IIª República. El gobierno francés crea esta suerte de campos de internamiento. El de Gurs fue el más grande y encerró a los que consideraban indeseables: republicanos procedentes de España, brigadistas internacionales, aviadores republicanos. Refugiados de la Europa Central y sin papeles, comunistas y resistentes franceses, gitanos y judíos extranjeros. En esta landa inhóspita permanecieron encerrados 60.550 hombres, mujeres y niños. Muchos descansan en los dos cementerios adjuntos al antiguo campo (en uno los republicanos, brigadistas, otros presos y el otro es el cementerio judío). Decidí realizar esta investigación en el terreno y hablando con supervivientes del campo, residentes en pueblos cercanos, para que los jóvenes europeos puedan tener conocimiento de que la Segunda Guerra Mundial comenzó en 1936, aunque no aparezca en ningún libro de historia. El gobierno francés tras años de intentar hacer desaparecer cualquier vestigio del mismo y ante la presión de los ciudadanos del Béarn, de la “Amicale du camp de Gurs”, asociaciones judías y otras muchas organizaciones y personalidades, paralizaron la destrucción completa de los restos del antiguo campo y encargaron al artista israelí Dani Karavan - uno de los artistas de “Land Art” vivos más reconocidos -, la construcción de este Memorial (existen tres en toda Francia), se inaugura el 14 de octubre de 1994. Al estar realizando la tesis sobre la obra y persona de Dani Karavan, acudí - en octubre de 2011- , al igual que a otros países y lugares donde tiene emplazadas obras ( Alemania, España, Francia, Italia, Israel,..), para realizar fotografías, filmaciones, dibujos, apuntes, obtener información de los ayuntamientos e ir recabando información para la tesis. Descubrí el lugar y recordé las palabras del artista: “Cuando trabajo en un nuevo emplazamiento trato con aspectos visibles e invisibles, con materiales sensibles, con memorias y con mi propio estado de conciencia y conocimiento histórico” . Tal fue el impacto, que pasé unos días consternado y más conforme oía relatos de supervivientes y leía sobre el campo y el trabajo de Dani Karavan, ante el ofrecimiento de realizar la obra y descubrir la realidad de lo sucedido. En enero acudí al “atelier” de Dani en París (ahora reside en Tel Aviv, pero venía a Europa unos días por compromisos ), hablé con el maestro el día 21/01/2017 y realicé unas fotografías tipo retrato, tras la entrevista. The grid structures consist of wide roads at a city scale and define Superblocks, each with a network of narrower streets. My paper investigates the form-function interrelationships of these structures from morphological perspectives against a backcloth of theory that stresses an integrated network of streets as the prerequisite for a convenient and synergetic environment, with a specific focus on road/street networks, and mix and distribution of functional activities. Both qualitative and quantitative methods (including space syntax) are used to investigate four Superblocks from two pairs of Chinese and Japanese cities: Xi’an and Kyoto, and Nanjing and Osaka, from three aspects: integration, connection and interaction. Here I focus on the Nanjing-Osaka pair and the findings demonstrate clear but divergent patterns between the two cities, which are indicative of general differences between Chinese and Japanese Superblocks: there are very strong interrelationships between the street network and distribution of activities in the Japanese Superblocks, but these are much less evident in the Chinese Superblocks and this results largely from the extensive Chinese cultural practice of building walls around compounds. It reveals some structural disadvantages, leading to congestion of traffic and functional activities in some strategic locations in Chinese Superblocks. It also highlights some crucial qualities in the structures of many Japanese Superblocks that can provide inspiration for China’s future urban development and possibly for cities in other parts of the world.Reference:Alexander, C. Jesús Rafael Soto nasce em 1923 em Cuidad Bolívar, na Venezuela, e após demonstrar interesse pela arte ainda na infância, ingressa, em 1942, na Escola de Artes Plásticas de Caracas, onde toma os primeiros contatos com a arte moderna. Porém, não é no seu país natal que Soto desenvolve sua produção. O artista deixa a Venezuela e estabelece-se em Paris no início da década de 1950, onde reside até sua morte. É na Europa que ele realiza pesquisas de cunho abstrato-geométrico, juntamente com outros artistas, na sua maioria estrangeiros, como o israelense Yaacov Agan, o suíço Jean Tinguely, o húngaro Victor Vasarely, o argentino Tomasello, o americano Alexander Calder, e entre outros ligados ao Salon de Réalités Nouvelles, todos apoiados pela Galeria Denise René, importante galeria francesa de participação ativa e fundamental para os artistas abstrato-geométricos e cinéticos.

The main objective of the study is to analyze the Ukrainian journalistic heritage of Lidia Shishmanova. For the first time, Lidia Shishmanova’s publications in the Ukrainian periodicals «Rada», «Dilo», «Our Past» in 1912-1918 in Ukraine and in the Ukrainian emigrant publications «New Ukraine» and «Trident» in 1922-1935 in the Czech Republic and France are separately studied. The results of the research claim that Lidia Shishmanova’s journalistic creativity was multifaceted. In particular, Lidia Shishmanova an invaluable contribution to the history of Ukrainian journalism with her Ukrainian publications. The subject of the analyzed texts are mainly memoirs and are dedicated to such prominent figures in the history of Ukraine as Mykhailo Dragomanov, Lesya Ukrainka and others. At the same time, were characterized the periodicals where Lidia Shishmanova was published (Kyiv, Lviv, Praha, Paris). Keywords: Lidia Shishmanova; Ukrainian journalism; emigrant periodicals; memoirs.
