Introduction: Errors when filling in or interpreting the results of the EWS assessment causes delays and inaccuracies for the nurses when providing a clinical response. The aim of this study was to explain the relationship between the nurse’s knowledge and skill with the speed and accuracy of the nurse when assessing via EWS.Methods: This study used a correlation design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 104 nurses working in the inpatient ward of internal medicine according to the inclusion criteria. The sample was obtained through purposive sampling. The independent variable was the nurses’ knowledge and skill while the dependent variable was the nurse’s speed and accuracy when assessing using the EWS. The instruments used were questionnaires and observation sheets. The data was analyzed using Spearman Rho.Results: The results of the study showed that there was a very strong correlation between the knowledge-accuracy of the nurses when assessing using the EWS (r = 0.805; p = 0.000) and the nurse's skill-accuracy when assessing using the EWS (r = 0.823; p = 0.000). There was a strong correlation between the knowledge-speed of nurses assessing using the EWS (r = 0.269; p = 0.006) and the nurse's skill and speed when assessing using the EWS (r = 0.262; p = 0.007).Conclusion: The nurse’s knowledge and skill has a stronger relationship with accuracy when assessing using the EWS when compared to the nurses' speed.

Background:The global spread of COVID-19 is triggering public health responses and is affecting severely on economic systems and global communications. Nurses are the frontline healthcare professionals, providing direct care to individuals infected with COVID-19. In addition, E-learning tools are playing a crucial role during this pandemic. Aim:The aim of this study was to determine the effect of implementing distance learning on nurse's knowledge and practice regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. Design: Quiz experimental design was used to achieve the aim of the current study. Setting:The study was conducted at the emergency department, Intensive care unitand internal medicine department department at 15- May Hospital – Helwan governorate. Sample:A convenient sample of 50 nurses who are work in the previously mentioned settings. Tools:Five tools were used to collect data includeI: Nurse's demographic characteristics data. II: Nurse's knowledge assessment sheet, III: Nurses practice observation sheet, IV: Hospital health services nurse's opinion assessment sheet, V: Distance learning assessment sheet. Results: high significant positive difference between pre and posttest which reveals improvement in study subject knowledge and practice regarding distance learning implantation at p-value 0.000**. In addition, this study indicates the most of study subject agree with implementing distance learning. Conclusion: The finding of the study concluded that nurses' knowledge and practice was improved post-education than pre-education. Recommendations: Additional research using different training programs for nurses to be well prepared to provide patients with appropriate knowledge and practices about COVID-19 through verbal and written instructions.

Objective: To assess nurse's knowledge about nosocomial infection at hospital in Baghdad city. Methodology: A descriptive study was carried out at hospitals in the city of Baghdad and included (Baghdad teaching hospital, Gazi al-hariri hospital, Al-karama hospital, Al-yarmok hospital, and al-kadhmia hospital). Starting in 5 of August 2012 to 20 of February 2013. A non-probability (purposive) sample of 100 nurses who worked in hospitals in the city of Baghdad. The questionnaires was designed and constructed by the researcher according to review of literature and related study. The content validity of the instrument was established through penal of 14 experts. Reliability of the Instrument was determined by test-retest method which was estimated as average (r=0.802). Data was gathered by interview technique using the questionnaire format and data was analyzed by application of descriptive and inferential statistical methods. Results: The majority of nurses was male, with age group 30-39 years old, nursing institute graduated, the majority of nurses have less than 5 years of employment in the hospital and low number of training course about nosocomial infection. The result indicated that most of the nurses (69%) have poor knowledge toward NI. There is significance relationship at P <0.05 between nurse's educational level and their knowledge toward NI. There is no significance relationship at P >0.05 between nurse's (age, gender, years of employment in the hospital, and training course of nosocomial infection) and nurse's knowledge toward NI. Conclusion: The study concluded that the nurses not have appropriate knowledge toward nosocomail infection Recommendations: The training course is necessary to increase nurses' knowledge toward nosocomial infection. This training course should be regularly done and updated in view of changing knowledge and practices

Background: Every day, health care worker are exposed to dangerous and deadly blood borne pathogens through contaminated needle sticks, sharps, or splash exposures. In hospitals, nurses are the first level of the staff whom contact with risk of infection in unsafe practices related to needles and sharps. Objective: Assess of nurse knowledge regarding needle prick injuries and its risks in Erbil hospitals. Methodology: A descriptive study was conducted in some hospitals of Erbil City. The Sample size for the study was 60 nurses. Purposive sample was selected and Data was analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistic by SPSS version (19). Results: It showed that the most of nurses had good knowledge regarding the needle prick injuries and its risks. Also there are no significance relationship between nurse's knowledge and their demographic data. Conclusion: The researchers concluded that the nurse's knowledge regarding needle prick injuries generally were good. Recommendation: conducting educational teaching programmed for nurses regarding needle prick injury to improve their knowledge about it to protect themselves of its risks.

This study was to investigate the relationship between hospital nurses'knowledge of breast-feeding and their ability to provide care to breast-feeding mothers and their children. From Nov. 1 to 30, 1999, 105 nurses of the obstetric ward, delivery room, OPDs of obstetrics and gynecology, and nurseries of three general hospitals from Seoul and Pusan were evaluated. The results are as follows: 1.Mean score of nurse's knowledge to breast-feeding was 12.76. Mean score of performance of nursing activities was 109.80. 2.General characteristics and feeding characteristics were significantly related to nurse's knowledge to breast-feeding and performance of nursing activities related to breast-feeding. Nurse's knowledge about breast-feeding was significantly related to age, working ward, clinical experience, rank of position, experience of breast-feeding and experience education on breast-feeding. Performance of nursing activities for breast-feeding was significantly related to age, working ward, experience in other ward, marital status, and education on breast-feeding. 3.A positive correlation between nurse's knowledge to breast-feeding and performance of nursing activities related to breast-feeding was statistically significant(r=.381, P<0.05).

Objective: To determine the effectiveness of education program on nurses’ general knowledge about hydatidiform mole pregnancy. Material: This quasi-experimental study included nurses who worked in maternity units with application of pretest and posttest approach to evaluate the effectiveness of educational program on nurse's knowledge about hydatidiform mole. Results: Nurses had fair level of general knowledge during pre-test. During post-test 1and 2, they showed good level of knowledge. Conclusion: Nurse knowledge improved after educational program.

Objective: This study aims to assess the level of nurse's knowledge regarding toxoplasmosis managementin pregnant women.Methodology: A descriptive analytic study was carried out from January 2012 to March 2012. A sample of(70)nurses who provide prenatal care to pregnant women at primary health care centers of AL-Adala,ALHindia,AL-Askary,AL-Jamea,AL-Ansarand AL-Salam in AL-Najaf city. The questionnaire was self-completedand included questions on sociodemographic characteristics and toxoplasmosis aspects.Results: The findings of the study indicated that (44.3%) of nurses have moderate level of knowledge.(32.9%) of nurses was with age ranging from 31-36 years. (74.3%) were male. (52.9%) were secondarygraduate,(31.4) were institute graduates, regarding the training sessions the majority of nurses(84.3%)have no training sessions, (34.3%) of nurses who were included in the study have duration ofexperience ranging from 7-13 years. Highly significant relation between nurse‘s level of knowledge andtheir age and years of experience (0.009, 0.024) respectivelyRecommendations: The study recommended that: it is necessary to join all nurses who work in prenatalcare units in workshop training, continuing education sessions regarding toxoplasmosis aspects and othermother –child issues to improve health awareness. Another study should be conducted to investigate theassociation between the prevalence of toxoplasmosis and affectivity of prenatal care in preventingtoxoplasmosis.

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of nursing educational program on nurse's knowledge toward arrhythmia in Kirkuk's teaching hospitals. Methodology: A quasi-experimental design was carried out at Azady and Kirkuk teaching hospitals in 17th January, 2011 to 10th of June, 2012. The program and instruments constructed and developed by the researcher to measure the purpose of the study. Purposive sample comprised of (80) nurses was divided into two groups, study group consisted (40) nurses exposed to the nursing educational program and control group consisted (40) nurses were not exposed to the program. The measurement of effectiveness of nursing educational program through the knowledge assessment includes (43) items. Reliability of instrument was determined through the use of test and retest and the instrument validity was determined through a panel of experts. Results: The results of the study showed that the effectiveness of educational program regarding nurses' knowledge toward arrhythmia is a positive and clear. It is also shows that there is good improvement with highly significant differences in study group in overall main domains related to nurse's knowledge. Recommendation: The study recommends that all nurses in the medical department in our country should be involved in the application of educational program which was developed in this study

Aims: Assess nurses' knowledge & practice about infection control regarding kidney transplantation patients, design and implement of nursing teaching protocol regarding kidney transplantation patients, & assess the effect of nursing teaching protocol on nurses knowledge and practice about infection control regarding kidney transplantation patients. The study was conducted in the kidney transplantation unit of Assiut Nephrology Hospital; data were collected from all nurses working in Kidney Transplantation Unit (30 nurses). Three tools used for data collection; Pre-posttest interview questionnaire sheet & observation checklist sheet, & Nursing teaching protocol.Results: all the nurses were female, most of them their ages were from 18 - 25 years, single, living in the rural area, had a high degree in nursing. Most of them had previous infection-control training. An improvement in the mean knowledge & practice scores were found after the application of the teaching protocol (1st hypothesis). A positive correlation between nurse's knowledge and practice scores after application of the nursing teaching protocol (2nd hypothesis).Conclusions: Improving nurse's knowledge and practice can favorable affect the incidence and outcome of kidney transplantation patients.Recommendations: There is a need for continued and written standards training programs about infection control regarding kidney transplantation patients and should be available.

Recognizing neonatal pain is a challenge for nurses working with newborns due to the complexity of the pain phenomenon. Pain is subjective, and infants lack the ability to communicate, and their pain is difficult to recognize. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of education on the NICU nurses' ability to assess neonatal pain. With a better understanding of pain theory and the effects of pain on the newborn the nurse will be better able to assess newborns with pain. Designed as a quasi-experimental one-group pretest and posttest study, the data was collected on a convenience sample of 49 registered nurses employed in the neonatal and special care nursery units at a Childrens Hospital in the Miami area. The nurses were surveyed on the assessment of neonatal pain using the General Information and Pain Sensitivity Questionnaire. After the initial survey, the nurses were inserviced on neonatal pain assessment using a one hour inservice education program. One week after the intervention the nurse was asked to complete the questionnaire again. Data analysis involved comparision of pre and post intervention findings using descriptive methods, t test, correlation coefficients, and ANOVA , where applicable. Findings revealed a significant ( p=.006) increase in nurse's knowledge of neonatal pain assessment after completing the educational inservice when comparing the pre-test and post-test results.

Resumo: Medicamentos de Alta Vigilância apresentam estreito risco terapêutico e possuem um maior risco de causar dano significativo ao paciente em decorrência da falha de utilização, tornando-se os medicamentos de maior preocupação quando associados aos erros de medicação. Esta definição não indica que os erros associados a estes fármacos são mais frequentes, mas que as consequências para os pacientes de um erro associado a tais medicamentos são geralmente mais graves podendo provocar lesões permanentes ou fatais aos pacientes. O conhecimento insuficiente da enfermagem é considerado um dos fatores que contribuem para o erro na administração de medicamento. O instrumento Nurse¿s Knowledge of High-Alert Medication avalia o conhecimento de enfermeiros sobre os Medicamentos de Alta Vigilância, utilizando escala dicotômica, no qual o respondente informa verdadeiro ou falso para as afirmativas dos domínios: conhecimento dos enfermeiros sobre administração e regulamentação dos Medicamentos de Alta Vigilância. Deste modo, considerando a importância da mensuração do conhecimento dos enfermeiros sobre os Medicamentos de Alta Vigilância na oferta de serviços com qualidade e segurança ao paciente associado à inexistência no Brasil de um instrumento de medida válido com tal finalidade, o presente estudo teve por objetivo traduzir, adaptar e validar o instrumento Nurse¿s Knowledge of High-Alert Medication para a cultura brasileira e verificar a praticabilidade do instrumento traduzido e adaptado. Para desenvolver a adaptação do instrumento foi utilizado o referencial metodológico preconizado pela literatura, o qual envolve as etapas de tradução para o idioma alvo, síntese das traduções, retro-tradução, avaliação por um comitê de juízes e realização de pré-teste. Com relação às propriedades psicométricas, a confiabilidade da versão brasileira do questionário foi verificada por meio da consistência interna pelo coeficiente de confiabilidade de Kuder Richardson-20 (KR- 20) e a validade de constructo pela técnica de grupos conhecidos utilizando o teste não paramétrico de Mann-Whitney e o teste t de Student. O instrumento Nurse¿s Knowledge of High-Alert Medication traduzido e adaptado para a cultura brasileira foi considerado válido, apresentando validade de constructo discriminante (p< 0,001) e consistência interna aceitável (0,55 na parte A e 0,60 na parte B). Conclusão: A versão brasileira do instrumento Nurses¿ knowledge of high-alert medications encontrou resultados satisfatórios no processo tradução, adaptação e validação da escala, confirmando a sua adequação para estudos na área
Abstract: High-Alert Medication have narrow therapeutic risks and an increased risk of causing significant harm to the patient due to the use of failure, becoming the most concern medications when associated with the medication errors. This definition does not indicate that the errors associated with these drugs are more frequent, but the consequences for patients of an error associated with such drugs are usually more severe and it can cause permanent injury or death to patients. The insufficient knowledge of nursing is considered one of the factors contributing to the error in drug administration. The instrument Nurses 'Knowledge of High-Alert Medication evaluates the knowledge of nurses about the high-alert medication using dichotomous scale, in which the answerer states true or false to the assertions of the domains: nurses' knowledge of administration and regulation of high-alert medication. Thus, considering the importance of nurses' knowledge measurement about the High-Alert Medication in the provision of quality and safety services to the patient, associated with the lack in Brazil of a valid measurement instrument for such purpose, the present study had the aim to translate, adapt and validate the Nurse's Knowledge of High-Alert Medication instrument for Brazilian culture and verify the feasibility of the translated and adapted instrument. Order to develop this research, it was used the recommended methodological references in the literature, which includes the steps of: instrument translation into the target language, synthesis of translations, back-translation, evaluation by a committee of judges and implementation of pre-test. Regarding the psychometric properties, reliability of the Brazilian version of the questionnaire was verified using internal consistency by Kuder Richardson-20 reliability coefficient (KR- 20) and construct validity discriminant by the technique of known groups using the non-parametric test Mann-Whitney. The instrument Nurses' Knowledge of High-Alert Medication translated and adapted to the Brazilian culture was considered valid, with discriminant validity (p <0.001) and acceptable internal consistency (0.55 in Part A and 0.60 in Part B). Conclusion: The Brazilian version of the instrument Nurses' knowledge of high-alert medications has found satisfactory results in the process translation, adaptation and validation of the scale, confirming its suitability for studies in the area

Thesis (MCur)- -University of Stellenbosch, 2011ENGLISH ABSTRACT: It generally is a problem for persons with disabilities to have barrier free access to buildings, which is their constitutional right. It is however, not only the physical facility that causes barriers for persons with disabilities but also the attitudes of the able-bodied persons. The aim of the study was to explore what opinions the nurses and persons with disabilities held in two healthcare settings in Kimberley with reference to the nursing care provided to persons with disabilities. To the researcher, it was important to gather the opinions of the nursing staff on how they saw persons with disabilities, but also to hear what they thought the problem areas in caring for persons with disabilities were. On the other hand, it was equally important to understand the persons with disabilities’ perceptions of the hospitals, nursing and what they saw as solutions to the problems. The objectives of the study were: • To determine what the opinions and knowledge of nurses working in two healthcare services in Kimberley are regarding the nursing management of persons with disabilities. • To determine what the opinions of persons with disabilities are in healthcare settings in Kimberley, with reference to the nursing care provided for persons with disabilities. Data was collected in two phases namely Phase 1 amongst the nursing staff in the private and state hospital in Kimberley and Phase 2 amongst the persons with disabilities. A list of staff members which was obtained from the Human Resource office in both the private and state hospitals were sent to the statistician Prof Kidd and who prepared a randomised list which was used for the participants in the study. The same process was followed when a list of all the people who are members of the Association for Persons with Disabilities (APD) and with the help of the statistician a randomised list was compiled from which the participants in the study were chosen. The design of this research is an explorative, descriptive non-experimental study with a quantitative approach, utilizing a structured questionnaire with closed and open ended questions. In this study it was found that the nursing staff was aware of the problems and barriers persons with disabilities encounter. The nurses, however, were aware of their own shortcomings. For example, the nurses identified the lack of training to equip them to assist the persons with disabilities during nursing care, while persons with disabilities also saw this as a problem. By addressing this shortcoming, nurses would be able to provide more holistic care. Recommendations were made based on the findings regarding the facility, perceptions, caregivers, procedures, doctors and the training of the nurses.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Om toegang te hê tot geboue wat hulle grondwetlike reg is, is vir die meeste mense met gestremdhede ‘n voortdurende stryd. Dit is egter dikwels nie net die fisiese ontoeganklikheid van die geboue wat dit vir die persone met gestremdhede onmoontlik maak om ‘n normale lewe te lei nie, maar die houding van verpleegpersoneel wat dikwels meer ontoeganklik is as die toegang tot die geboue. Die doel van die studie was om te bepaal wat die opinies die verpleegpersoneel sowel as persone met gestremdhede het ivm gesondheidsorg in die privaat en staatshospitale in Kimberley Dit was vir die navorser belangrik om te bepaal hoe die verpleegpersoneel mense met gestremdhede sien, maar ook om hulle opinies te hoor ivm die probleme wat hulle ondervind sowel as moontlike oplossings daarvoor. Aan die ander kant wou die navorser ook weet wat die opinie van mense met gestremdhede is van die hospitale wat hulle besoek. Doelwitte van die studie was: • Om die kennis van verpleegpersoneel in die staat sowel as privaathospitale te bepaal ivm die versorging van persone met gestremdhede.. • .Om die opinies van persone met gestremdhede te bepaal tov die verpleegsorg in die staat sowel as privaathospitale in Kimbelrey. Data is in twee fases versamel. In Fase 1 was die verpleegpersoneel in beide die staat sowel as die privaathospitaal ingesluit en in Fase 2 was die deelname van die persone met gestremdhede verkry. Die lys is deur die statistikus herrangskik,en die personeel en persone met gestremdhede is gevra om deel te neem aan die studie na aanleiding van die orde op die lys, nadat hulle ingligting ontvang het en toestemming geteken het vir deelname aan die studie. Die studie is eksploratief, beskrywend en nie-eksperimenteel van aard met ‘n kwantitatiewe benadering. Gestruktureerde vraelyse wat oop en geslote –einde vrae bevat het, is gebruik.. In die studie is bevind dat die verpleegpersoneel bewus was van die leemtes in die versorging van persone met gestremdhede. Een van die leemtes wat geïdentifiseer is, was dat verpleegsters nie formele opleiding ontvang in die versorging van persone met gestremdhede nie. Die persone met gestremdhede het ook hierdie leemte identifiseer. Deur hierdie leemte aan te spreek behoort verpleegpersoneel ‘n meer holistiese versorging aan persone met gestremdhede te lewer. Aanbevelings wat gemaak is, is gebasseer op die bevindinge in die studie en sluit in: fasiliteitt, persepsies, versorgers, prosedures, dokters en die opleiding van verpleegsters.

Registered nurses entering a Nurse Prescriber programme participated in a mixed methods case study to explore the extent of their bioscience knowledge and the confidence with which that knowledge was held. Forty two Nurse Prescriber students, aged 26 – 55 years, from a range of job roles were recruited. Using questionnaires and interviews, both quantitative and qualitative data were obtained. An examination of the Nurse Prescribers’ views of pre-registration nursing demonstrated that the knowledge gained had been related to practice but had been both superficial and lacking in breadth. The bioscience in pre-registration programmes had not sufficiently prepared the participants for their roles as registered nurses. The importance of experiences gained as a registered nurse in the practice setting in the learning of bioscience was strongly emphasised. Participants reported greater learning of bioscience by informal methods such as work experience, use of books and the Internet and discussion with colleagues than from experiences in the classroom. Interviewees placed particularly strong emphasis on the importance of learning from medical colleagues. The role of post-registration programmes emerged as important in learning bioscience because it related to the job role. Post-registration courses also emerged as significant in giving confidence to the registered nurse. Confidence increased not just in terms of the knowledge held, but also in terms of nurses’ ability to communicate with patients, relatives, and doctors, their ability to understand nursing skills, and their willingness to admit when something was not known.

This electronic survey study was designed to examine the perceptions, knowledge and commitment of nursing staff regarding shared governance (Nurse Practice Council) at St. Paul’s Hospital (SPH). A cross-sectional survey design was used in this study. The study was conducted in the summer of 2010 at St. Paul’s Hospital, a tertiary hospital in Vancouver, B.C. A 114 nurses participated in the survey who were eligible and agreed to participate in the study. An electronic standardized SG survey was used to collect data for this study. The survey used Likert-like questions to measure the nurses’ perception, knowledge and commitment to the Nurse Practice Council (NPC). Additionally a small number of open-ended questions were used to verify the data from the Likert-like responses. Descriptive statistics were used to measure the level of perception, knowledge and commitment of nurses toward the Nurse Practice Council.
Finally content analysis was employed to analyze the nurses’ responses to the open-ended questions.
The SG study findings suggest: (1) Staff at SPH supports NPC and has a positive perception of NPC; (2) Staff members do not have enough knowledge about the NPC; and (3) Staff is not sure if administration at SPH is committed to the work of the NPC.
The findings also indicate that staff believes the NPC has the potential to make a difference by increasing frontline nurse staff involvement, through education and awareness. Additionally leaders require education in order to increase administrative support and indirectly improve frontline attendance.
Results of the one-way ANOVA showed that knowledge of NPC was statistically significant and varied according to practice area. However, no significant results were identified when examining perceptions and commitment according to practice area.
In considering the literature that suggests perceptions, knowledge and commitment are essential in the implementation and sustainment of SG, it is surprising that the only significant result was knowledge. These findings indicated that more work is required to improve nurses’ perceptions of NPC, moreover improving the commitment level of staff to SG and the NPC.

Eating Disorders are a range of disorders marked by abnormal eating habits. These habits can often have a detrimental effect on the body and have the potential to complicate acute medical problems if they are a pre-existing condition. Due to this, it is important that members of the healthcare team be aware of the nature of these disorders from both a physical and mental health perspective in order to provide the best, most holistic care. In this study, individuals with nursing experience in acute medical and acute psychiatric care were asked 11 questions concerning the assessment and knowledge of eating disorders along with demographic information such as age, area of practice and years of experience. The results of this study showed the average score of the questions involving treatment (7-11) were higher than that of the assessment questions (1-6) and that years of practice experience had no correlation, positive or negative, to overall score. These findings are consistent with the literature that suggests that nurses could potentially benefit from additional education regarding their disorders and their unique presentation, as it can be inferred that years of practice alone does not determine competency in the area especially, according to this study, in terms of assessment and identification.

Stroke is a devastating disease. Stroke care has advanced greatly in the past 20 years with innovations in radiologic imaging, development of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), organized systems of care, telestroke, and best practice guidelines via Get with the Guidelines Stroke (GWTGS). However, stroke remains the 5th leading cause of death in the United States. To provide current and quality care for stroke patients, nurses need ongoing stroke education. Additionally, stroke centers must provide a sustainable stoke education program to their nurses to keep their knowledge current. Guided by Rosswurm and Larrabee's model, this quality improvement project addressed whether an educational program based on evidence in GWTGS could increase nursing knowledge of stroke. A convenience sample of 50 medical-surgical nurses from a stroke telemetry unit participated in this program. Nursing knowledge was assessed by using a student-developed tool based on the GWTGS best practice evidence to evaluate for increased knowledge regarding stroke and stroke management. Using simple descriptive statistics, the percent difference from pretest to posttest was calculated. The results revealed a 16.79% increase in nurses' knowledge. The practicum organization therefore adopted the program. Implications for nursing practice and social change include organizations adopting the educational program as a sustainable learning opportunity for nurses in regards to stroke care.

Suicide is a major health concern worldwide. Nurse practitioners must possess suicide assessment skills and treatment knowledge to ensure appropriate identification of persons with suicidal ideation. The purpose of this project was to assess psychiatric nurse practitioners' knowledge of suicide prevention in rural Kentucky. The conceptual framework was Orlando's nursing process theory, which emphasizes the importance of nurse-patient interaction. A 13-item survey of suicide-related knowledge and skills was administered to 10 psychiatric nurse practitioners in rural Kentucky. Only 3 participants responded correctly to a question related to suicidality in persons with borderline personality disorder. Regarding competency and support for assessing suicide, 100% of participants reported that they were comfortable asking direct and open-ended questions regarding suicide. Nine of the 10 respondents assessed their knowledge and skills as sufficient to engage effectively with patients contemplating suicide, which indicates that psychiatric nurse practitioners may overestimate their ability to identify and treat persons with suicidal ideation. Healthcare providers in all specialties can benefit from this project by improving competencies and guiding continuing education to bridge any gaps in knowledge for adequately assessing suicide. Further education is needed for psychiatric nurse practitioners to promote positive social change for suicidal persons, their families, and their communities.

Within the multiprofessional team, nurse education is critical to safe and competent care and to the patient’s treatment experience. As we consider the education needs of the nursing workforce throughout the entire patient pathway, including the supply chain, chain of custody, and clinical care delivery, we recognize the important roles of expert nurses, practice educators, and the wider multiprofessional team in sharing their knowledge and experience. Nurse education strategies should include referring nursing teams to facilitate seamless patient care throughout referral, treatment, and follow-up to optimize communication and appropriately meet patient and caregiver information needs.

We have been examining home care nursing from the perspective of service research/service design research. We have presented the process of 'co-creation' between visiting nurses and patients to restore/continue the patient's daily life (Otani and Ito 2021: 503-509) and have also examined the work of visiting nurses made with patients and their families in the patients' homes as sticky information that is difficult to detach from the context and difficult to transfer (von Hippel 1994, Otani and Ito 2021: 503-509). In light of these findings, this paper aims to identify the difficulties visiting nurses face in transferring the knowledge they co-create with patients and patients' families in patients' homes to their fellow nurses and health professionals in the workplace.In service research, the importance of the perspective that providers and recipients "co-create" value together (Vargo and Lusch 2004, 2008, 2014) has been pointed out. On the other hand, in previous anthropological research on the transmission of deeds (eg. Lemonnier 2002), there is little analysis from the perspective of the relationship between the provider of the deeds and the recipient of the value of the deeds, or from the perspective of co-creation by both parties. The analysis in this paper is significant and novel in that it incorporates the perspective of co-creation in service research into previous anthropological research on the transmission of deeds.The study period was from 2013 to November 2022. The study site was X visiting nurse station in Nagoya City. The research method consisted of observation and interviews at the home-visit nursing station and at the patients' homes.The provider (visiting nurse) listened to the requests of the recipients (patients) and their families and develops nursing care techniques(services) to support their preferred way of life. The nurses listed them and had the patient and family select them proactively to their satisfaction. In order for patients and their families to remain satisfied with nursing care, the co-created nursing skills had to be transferred to fellow nurses and health professionals so that other nurses, not just the nurse who created them, could also perform them. Nurses recorded their inventions in their electronic health records and explain them in meetings, but there were limitations to recording and explaining them verbally. Because (1) the techniques created by visiting nurses and others were stored in the nurse's body. Because of their dependence on the nurse's body, the only way to communicate them to others was to express them with gestures or to communicate them verbally in parts (using the 'craft language'). In addition, (2) the techniques produced by visiting nurses and others were closely linked to the context of the patient's home. This is because, unlike care in hospital nursing, visiting nurses form (co-create) the skills in the patient's home, together with the patient and their family. That was difficult to transfer the skills embedded in the context of the patient's home to other nurses and health professionals.

The role of nurses in this scenario stands out, since this professional contributes to the preservation of life, acting in an agile way. Considering the need for technical and scientific knowledge, in this scenario the need for professional improvement stands out. The objective is to survey the nurse's performance in relation to the use of ML, identifying the technical qualification for the use of this device and proposing a SOP model for use in a Hospital Institution.

Introduction: Viral oncolytic therapy (VOT) is an emerging approach in cancer treatment, which is based on the selective replication of a viral vector inside cancer cells, triggering the death of tumor cells by lysis and the spread of new viral particles to the remaining adjacent malignant cells. However, special care is needed from nurses to manage immune-mediated side effects and provide support and education to patients and their families during treatment. Objectives: To survey the nurse's performance in the face of VOT; propose a model of Systematization of Nursing Care (SNC) with the main nursing diagnoses related to VOT. Methods: This is a qualitative literature review, using as a primary source of research the databases - CAPES, PubMed, Scielo, BVS. Composing a sample of 39 articles relevant to the formulation of this article. Results: Although there is a significant scientific production on nursing care in the oncological context, there are still few studies that specifically address the SNC related to TOV and immunotherapies. In view of this and considering and need to fill this gap, an SNC model is proposed, considering the oncologic patient in the face of a holistic view. Regarding the adverse reactions associated with therapy, it is of paramount importance, and the implementation of SNC as a structured care process can contribute significantly to the excellence of care for cancer patients undergoing this innovative therapy, with the main nursing diagnoses related to OVT Conclusion: The integration of scientific knowledge, clinical skills and a humanized approach strengthens the role of nurses as a fundamental part of the multidisciplinary team in the treatment of cancer through OVT.

The purpose of this study is to clarify, through ethnographic research, how nurses acquire and share their knowledge and skills of home nursing in clinical settings. The field research took place at a visiting nurse station in Nagoya, Japan between 2013 and November 2021. Research method used were participant observations and interviews at visiting nurse station and patients’ homes. One of the authors is an assistant professor of nursing at a university’s Nurse and Health department who also leads students in the clinical training at the visiting nurse station. The research data were acquired from periodical nurse station visits and from accompanying nurses in their activities.visiting nurses considered patients and family as partners, and they explored the preferred care together with the patient to create tailored care. We showed the following in a paper at AHFE-HSSE conference in 2021: the visiting nurses read into the patient’s societal background, life and beliefs, and visiting nurses analyzed the living style patients wish for, in order to propose the method which materialize this kind of living. The value co-created by the nurses and patient formulated the “normal living style” wished to be sustained by the patient (Otani and Ito 2021).Incidentally, in nursing education in Japan, universities nursing faculties and nursing schools educate students in basic knowledge and skills of nursing in wards to home nursing in Japan. The co-creative practices and techniques of visiting nursing care need to be learned while working in a clinical setting after the nurse is licensed. The paper revealed the following: The visiting nurse "co-created" with the patient to produce a nursing technique that fit the patient's needs based on the "sticky information" (von Hippel 1994) obtained in the patient's home. At the visiting nurse station, the nurses reported new information obtained at the patient's home or communicated to the patient during daily conferences. The nurse illustrated and demonstrated the nursing techniques that fit the patient to colleague nurses.In addition, the nurses had a joint conference with physical, occupational, and speech therapists working in the same station. The participants reported to each other the new information the patient during their stay at the patient's home, and described the techniques of each specialist that fit the patients. The information revealed in the conference was recorded into the patient's medical chart each time. The nursing skills created in the patient's home through co-creation with the patient are sticky information that is difficult to transfer, but they are shared and accumulated through gestural demonstrations at conferences by the health professionals.

Nurse educators have acknowledged that eportfolios provide a means through which nurses can record and provide evidence of skills, achievements, experience, professional development and, on-going learning, not only for themselves, but for the information and scrutiny of registration boards, employers, managers and peers. Recognising that practices to support these activities that foster 21st century learning should ideally start during their student years, the authors explored eportfolios as a valuable learning device for on-going personal and professional development for fostering students’lifelong learning and enhancing continuous personal and professional development. This paper describes the critical success factors for successful implementation of the Google Sites Practice eportfolio embedded in the three-year BSc(Hons) Nursing Programme in Malta. Evidence-based practice of successful eportfolio implementors was examined and their methods adapted to ensure the initiative had a sound foundation and fit for purpose.The authors argue that to be successful, eportfolio implementation must primarily be strategic, holistic, supported and have senior management buy-in and secondarily, have a robust tool, good pedagogy, and skilled and enthusiastic staff. Introduction: Mentorship of nursing students in the clinical environment is important for their professional development. With mentorship programs they can upgrade theoretical knowledge acquired in faculty into practice. Purpose of this study is to research the view of senior registered nurses on mentorship programs of nursing students in the clinical environment. Methods: The study took place in the October of 2022 in one of the university medical centers in Slovenia. To gather the data we used quantitative method of research with questionnaires where we enrolled 36 registered nurses. Data was analyzed with Microsoft Excel and SPSS (Inc., Chicago, IL). To summarize data set we used descriptive statistics and the Mann Whitney U test to analyze the hypothesis. Results: We found that enrolled registered nurses had no previous pedagogic training for mentorship (PV=1,88; SO=0,854), but they would like to get more educated in this field (PV=3,30; SD= 1,283), mostly because they enjoy being a mentor to students (PV=3,77; SO 1,098). There is a correlation between age of registered nurse and the will to participate in further pedagogic training of mentorship (Z2,571; p=0,010). Discussion: Mentorship has an important role in education and professional development of nursing students, therefore it is crucial that they are supervised by experienced and adequately educated senior registered nurses

Background: Pain has been described by clinicians, patients, and researchers alike as a complex and challenging phenomenon. People have different experiences of pain. Nurses’ negative attitudes and lack of knowledge are major impediments to effective pain management. Methods: The study was a cross-sectional online survey using a validated self-administered questionnaire for post-operative registered nurses working in Hamad Medical Corporation in Qatar. The dependent outcome was the score on the Knowledge and Attitudes Survey Regarding Pain. Results: A total of 151 post-operative nurses participated in the study. The mean knowledge and attitudes (K&A) score was 19.6 (SD 4.5) out of 41 (48%), indicating a huge deficit in the nurses’ knowledge and attitudes about adult post-operative pain. No sociodemographic variables were associated with K&A scores. Neither the facility the nurses worked at nor hours of previous pain education were associated with K&A scores. Conclusions: There is a significant deficit in post-operative nurses’ knowledge and attitudes about pain in Hamad Medical Corporation, with no significant differences based on demographics or other characteristics. This suggests the deficit is widespread within the nursing workforce in Qatar. This deficit is potentially impacting significantly on pain assessment and management for adults in post-operative settings. Pragmatic research on evidence-based nursing educational courses focused on pain assessment and management is required to enhance nurses’ knowledge and attitudes and improve patient care. Key messages: Strategies to strengthen nurses’ knowledge and attitudes toward pain in Qatar must be developed and tested.

The aim of this research is to determine the level of elementary physical knowledge, which can be used for solving the problem of nursing task. For this purpose original didactic test was used, which contained tasks from elementary physics and tasks of nursing, too. It was found, that nurses minimally remembered physical knowledge. Nurses preferred to solve practical nursing tasks only by using nursing knowledge. Decoupling physical and nursing knowledge may cause the increased risk of damage to health nurses and patients. This quality improvement project was completed to show that a formal lung transplant education course for nurses caring for lung transplant patients increased their knowledge. An eight-hour education course was developed by experts in the field of lung transplantation. A pretest was administered before the education course. A posttest was administered to determine if knowledge was improved. A three-month follow-up test was administered to determine knowledge retention. Based on the data analysis, nurse knowledge improved after formal education. Item analysis determined what areas of educational content need to be the focus of quarterly education. The education course was adopted as formal training for transplant nurses.

Review question / Objective: What is the effect of the use of technology for humanized nursing care in adults? Present a synthesis of knowledge about the elements that are part of humanized care and the use of technology. Condition being studied: Although technology can be a valuable tool to improve nursing care, it can also present some challenges for humanized care. Some of them may be, on the one hand, the lack of human contact, due to excessive use of technology, which may result in a decrease in personal interaction between the patient and the nurse, affecting the quality of care and patient satisfaction. On the other hand, when nurses become too dependent on technology, they can generate a lack of manual skills and a decrease in the ability to perform tasks without the help of it. Finding the right balance between the use of technology and humanized care is important to ensure that patients receive the attention and care they need in a safe and effective environment. In that sense, nurses must develop technological competencies effectively and responsibly, and to integrate it into their daily practice in a way that complements and enhances human care rather than replace it.

Aged residential care (ARC) residents with morbid health conditions frequently experience delirium. This condition is associated with diminished quality of life, preventable morbidity and untimely death. It is challenging and costly to manage delirium because of the complex interplay of physical and psychiatric symptoms associated with this condition in both primary and secondary services. With awareness of risk factors and knowledge about delirium, ARC nurses can play a vital role in early identification, assessment and treatment, but most importantly in preventing delirium in aged-care residents as well as improving health outcomes. Focus groups were carried out with ARC nurses to ascertain their opinions on how they assess and manage delirium in ARC facilities in South Auckland, New Zealand. Findings identified that there were strengths and weaknesses, as well as gaps in assessment and management of delirium. Nurses would benefit from delirium education, appropriate tools and adequate resources to help them manage delirium. Issues with diagnosing delirium, anxiety about challenging behaviours, family dynamics, lack of training and absence of IV treatment were noticeable features in this study.

In the article rare editions of magazine type are first probed for peasants which nursed in an environment the Ukrainian emigrants in the first post-war years on territory of the American area of occupation in Germany, and also in the USA. Separately paid regard to mision role of magazines in the association of the nebulized peasants round a desire to apply the obtained previous experience and knowledge on strange land, to present the world the Ukrainian peasantry as labour productive force and also round the idea of fight for independence, joining in with political activity of «old» parties and organizations which actively functioned in the environment of the Ukrainian emigrants. Outlined problem of magazines for peasants, and also sil’vetki of separate authors. In the repertoire of the Ukrainian emigrant press professional editions for peasants occupy an insignificant percent. But their appearance and functioning testify to the desire of certain part of wanderers – natives from villages, which got the special trade education, and also conscious group of peasants which tested tortures and humiliations as a result of violent collectivization, to unite the efforts for future effective economic labour in Ukraine, as emigration was at that time examined in their environment as the temporal phenomenon. De autre part, the creators of this periodicals did not hide the purpose of distribution of the purchased knowledges and experience in the countries of migration. Publishers at mediation of magazines formed soil for creation of political party, which would unite the unions of the Ukrainian peasants-emigrants (farmers), which got organized in camps for the moved persons. Soon, in 1948, party of liberal direction – Union of earths of cathedral Ukraine is was created in Ashaffenburzi (Germany) and on convention in New Wales (in 1950) renamed on Peasant party. Greater part of problem of magazines «the Ukrainian owner», «Ukrainian peasant», «Rural owner», was inferior preparation to realization of this emigrant project. A separate place belongs to the magazine «the Ukrainian manager», the release of which, without regard to influences of mel’nikivskogo wing OUN, managed from the first to the last number to dissociate oneself from a policy, save popular scientific status agrarian-economic direction. Even publications the main theme of number is violated in which, for example, criticism of a collective farm system the USSR or analysis of economic problems of socialism, scientific arguments is marked and by the unprejudice of author. Functioning in the environment of emigration of «rural» periodicals is dictated a desire to combine effort peasants for a maintenance and increase of professional level, to send them in the river-bed of fight for liberation from under the burden of persecutors of the Ukrainian village.

Oceans have been warming at an unprecedented rate over the last few decades and climate change is having profound effects on biodiversity and other ecosystem services that oceans provide for human well-being. The motivation for this report is a strong need to understand the consequences of climate change on aquatic ecosystems to develop strategies to minimize the impact on fished species, fisheries and society. The introduction and first chapters of the report are based on a literature review, which summarizes the current state of knowledge about climate change in the Swedish marine and coastal areas, patterns emerging from the main climate scenarios, and potential effects on fish and fisheries. This is followed by an analysis of species environmental limits and tolerances to a warming environment, focusing on selected fish and invertebrate species of commercial relevance. Thermal safety margins show a smaller buffer for species of boreal origin including the northern shrimp, the gadoids and vendace, among others. Analyses of preferred spawning temperatures and depths enable a preliminary overview of the potential sensitivities of species to a warming environment, showing inter alia that species requiring shallow and cold waters for reproduction are likely more sensitive to the effect of warming. The report also includes a specific analysis of how changes in temperature, salinity and oxygen may affect the availability of suitable spawning and nursery habitats in the Baltic Sea. Using information from recently updated maps of potential spawning and recruitment areas in the Baltic Sea, the potential loss of reproductive grounds is evaluated in an ensemble analysis based on multiple climate scenarios. Finally, the report includes a climate risk analysis, which integrates information on the stocks' specific susceptibilities to climate change (hazard), with information on the vulnerabilities of the evaluated systems and their exposure to climate change. The integration is carried out at the level of different fishing segments (fleets) and at the level of the different coastal administrative regions in Sweden. Thus, the risk analysis aims to identify the relative distribution of climate risk among fishing fleets and geographical regions, and explores how this may develop under alternative climate scenarios. The results show that the risk ranks higher for the salmon, vendace and shrimp fisheries, while geographically, the northern Baltic Sea ranks higher in risk compared to other regions. Most importantly, the analyses show that the risk is not equally driven by hazard, vulnerability and exposure for the different fleets and regions, suggesting that no single risk-reducing approach is sufficient and appropriate across all areas and fleets. The report concludes with a gap analysis together with suggestions for next steps to improve the state of knowledge and enable more precise risk analyses in the future, as well as with summary conclusions.

Project Objectives 1. Develop and amplify two interspecific populations (annual and perennial teosintes x elite maize inbred) as the basis for genetic analysis of grain quality. 2. Identify quantitative trait loci (QTLs) from teosinte that improve oil, protein, and essential amino acid composition of maize grain. 3. Develop near isogenic lines (NILs) to quantify QTL contributions to grain quality and as a resource for future breeding and gene cloning efforts. 4. Analyze the contribution of these QTLs to hybrid performance in both the US and Israel. 5. Measure the yield potential of improved grain quality hybrids. (NOTE: Yield potential could not be evaluated due to environmentally-caused failure of the breeding nursery where seed was produced for this evaluation.) Background: Maize is a significant agricultural commodity worldwide. As an open pollinated crop, variation within the species is large and, in most cases, sufficient to supply the demand for modem varieties and for new environments. In recent years there is a growing demand for maize varieties with special quality attributes. While domesticated sources of genetic variation for high oil and protein content are limited, useful alleles for these traits may remain in maize's wild relative, teosinte. We utilized advanced backcross (AB) analysis to search for QTLs contributing to oil and protein content from two teosinte accessions: Zea mays ssp. mexicana Race Chalco, an annual teosinte (referred to as Chalco), and Z diploperennis Race San Miguel, a perennial teosinte (referred to as Diplo). Major Conclusions and Achievements Two NILs targeting a Diplo introgression in bin 1.04 showed a significant increase in oil content in homozygous sib-pollinated seed when compared to sibbed seed of their counterpart non-introgressed controls. These BC4S2 NILs, referred to as D-RD29 and D-RD30, carry the Diplo allele in bin 1.04 and the introgression extends partially into bins 1.03 and 1.05. These NILs remain heterozygous in bins 4.01 and 8.02, but otherwise are homozygous for the recurrent parent (RD6502) alleles. NILs were developed also for the Chalco introgression in bin 1.04 but these do not show any improvement in oil content, suggesting that the Chalco alleles differ from the Diplo alleles in this region. Testcross Fl seed and sibbed grain from these Fl plants did not show any effect on oil content from this introgression, suggesting that it would need to be present in both parents of a maize hybrid to have an effect on oil content. Implications, both Scientific and Agricultural The Diplo region identified increases oil content by 12.5% (from 4.8% to 5.4% oil in the seed). Although this absolute difference is not large in agronomic terms, this locus could provide additive increases to oil content in combination with other maize-derived loci for high oil. To our knowledge, this is the first confirmed report of a QTL from teosinte for improved grain oil content in maize. It suggests that further research on grain quality alleles from maize wild relatives would be of both scientific and agricultural interest.
