Cette these presente une methode probabiliste pour estimer l'interet economique de l'insertion dans le reseau electrique de moyens de compensation de la puissance reactive mobilisables rapidement. La methode consiste a analyser un grand nombre d'etats du systeme electrique ayant des tensions en dehors des limites acceptables (en particulier les ecroulements de tension). Pour chaque etat sous contraintes, l'evaluation des surcouts de gestion dus aux contraintes et le calcul de la probabilite de la situation sont effectues. Les surcouts de gestion proviennent des impositions de groupes chers et du delestage de consommation necessaire pour resorber les contraintes. D'autre part, les etats dont les contraintes peuvent etre resorbees par l'ajout de moyens supplementaires de compensation de la puissance recative sont selectionnes. Finalement, les surcouts de gestion et les probabilites des etats selectionnes permettent de calculer le gain economique des moyens de compensation installes. La methode a ete testee sur une partie du systeme electrique francais.

Det mobila operativsystemet Android är idag ett ganska dominerande operativsystem på den mobila marknaden dels på grund av sin öppenhet men också på grund av att tillgängligheten är stor i och med både billiga och dyra telefoner finns att tillgå. Men idag har Android inget fördefinierat designmönster vilket leder till att varje utvecklare får bestämma själv vad som ska användas, vilket ibland kan leda till onödigt komplex kod i applikationerna som sen blir svårtestad och svårhanterlig. Detta arbete ämnar jämföra två designmönster, Passive Model View Controller (PMVC) och Model View View-Model (MVVM), för att se vilket designmönster som blir minst komplext med hjälp av att räkna fram mätvärden med hjälp av Cyclomatic Complexity Number (CCN). Studien är gjord utifrån arbetssättet Design & Creation och ämnar bidra med: kunskap om vilket mönster man bör välja, samt om CCN kan peka ut vilka delar i en applikation som kommer att ta mer eller mindre lång tid att testa. Under studiens gång tog vi även fram skillnader på om man anväder sig av den så kallade Single Responsibilyt Principle (SRP) eller inte. Detta för att se om separerade vyer gör någon skillnad i applikationernas komplexitet. I slutändan så visar studien på att komplexiteten i små applikationer är väldigt likvärdig, men att man även på små applikationer kan se skillnad på hur komplex koden är men också att kodkomplexitet på metodnivå kan ge riktlinjer för testfall.
Today the mobile operating system Android has a firm grip on the mobile market due to its open source code and the availability due to the variety of phones available, from very cheap models to the high-end exclusive ones. However, Android currently has no defined design pattern which causes a bit of a problem during the initial stages of development because the developer has to make that decision before the initial development starts. This sometimes causes excessive complexity in the finished application, which then becomes difficult to test and manage. In this report we compare the two design patterns Passive Model View Controller (PMVC) and Model View View-Model (MVVM) to decide which one is the least complex. For this we used so called metrics to show the complexity of the finished applications. The metrics were calculated using the existing library of functions called Cyclomatic Complexity Numbers (CCN). The study is based on the workflow Design & creation and aim to contribute with: knowledge that will make it easier to choose design pattern when developing an Android application, and if you can with CCN point out which areas in an application will take more or less time to conduct tests on. During the study we also analyzed how big of an impact the Single Responsibility Principle (SRP) had on the complexity. This was part of the study so that we could see the difference of separated views versus non-separated views. The study shows us that the complexity in small applications is very similar, no matter which design pattern you're using. However, it also shows that there are certain parts of the applications that are diverse in their complexity and that code complexity on method-level can give directions to test cases.

The main concern of this thesis is the design and implementation of advanced Web application in ASP.NET 1.0 Core, consisting of a presentation web and administration section. A part of the thesis is also design of a custom architecture for a data source (CRUDQ) suitable for any application, whose implementation is further demonstrated in the developed web application. Selected database system is document database called MongoDB, which is accessed using the author designed architecture approach. Other important aspects of the work includes for example effective interconnection between MVC and MVVM architectures, which is achieved by custom generator of JavaScript data model. The generated data model is used by KnockoutJS framework to ensure the functionality of user interface. The web application is fully functional simple CMS, executable on three most widely used desktop operating systems, using the latest technology tools and design patterns.

Neuroscience is a highly multidisciplinary and rapidly evolving research field. An important recent challenge of this discipline is the investigation of the so-called connectome. According to its original meaning, connectome is the map of the all brain neural connections. In this framework, the cognitive processes are not seen as localized in specific loci, but stored and processed in a distributed manner. Connectome aims to map and under-stand the organization of neural interactions trying, at the same time, to explain the role of functional units within the brain system. In particular, one of the most difficult and un-solved tasks in neuroscience is the identification of the areas, connections or brain func-tions that are called neuronal correlates of consciousness (NCCs). In this thesis the neural activity was explored by analysing human brain signals ac-quired during medical procedure. Signals from patients with drug resistant epilepsy were acquired by means of electrodes placed deep in the cortex (intracranial electroencephalog-raphy, EEG-iEEG), positioned in order to localize the epileptogenic focus. The technique, called stereotactic EEG (SEEG), guided and flanked by detailed 3D images, also pro-vides for periodical intracranial single-pulse electrical stimulation (SPES) to highlight are-as of interest. The continuous recording of the EEG activity took place for several days, and signals were grouped in two datasets: one acquired during wakefulness (WAKE) and the other one during the Non-Rapid Eye Movement sleep (NREM), stage 3. The signals were processed by means of two methods based on a multivariate auto-regressive model (MVAR). The first method was DTF (Directed Transfer Function), that is an estimator of the information flow between structures, depending on the signal fre-quency; it is able to describe which structure influences another. The second one was ADTF (Adaptive DTF) that permits to study the time-variant signal features, capturing their temporal dynamics. In addition to these connectivity analysis, feature extraction and classification techniques have been employed. The main aim of the dissertation is to evaluate methods and carry out analyses useful to distinguish between conscious and unconscious states, corresponding to WAKE and NREM respectively, studying at the same time the brain connectivity in response to Single Pulse Electrical Stimulation in intracranial EEG data. Massimini’s group (Department of Biomedical and Clinical sciences “L. Sacco”, Uni-versità degli Studi di Milano) revealed a different behavior for signals from the two states, WAKE and NREM: they noted a reactivation of the signal around 300 ms after the system perturbation in WAKE and, in contrast, a period of neural silence (down-state) in NREM condition. A hypothesis about the origin of the reactivation phenomenon is a feedback activity, i.e. the result of the activity from the rest of the network. In the thesis, the ADTF method was chosen to shed light on the down-state effect, paying attention to a defined temporal slice of data. The analysis was completed by the application of the DTF procedure, that was chosen to compare the two consciousness states and underline their differences in the frame of network connectivity. The analysis carried out lead to the following results:  Indication of useful combinations of features and techniques able to distinguish the states of interest  Observations of neural connection changes over frequency and time consider-ing causal relationships  Comparison of connectivity results using different re-referencing styles  Endorsement of the anatomical-functional importance of some channels corre-sponding to specialized brain areas. As conclusion of the analysis it was possible to identify a series of anatomical-functional brain features useful to discriminate the two mentioned states, therefore to speculate on the possibility to differentiate conscious and unconscious states with computational tools.

This master thesis deals with an architecture Model-View-Controller. It explains the principle, model, usage and benefits of an architecture. Futhure more, it presents the best known web frameworks on Java platform which derive benefit from this architecture. There are frameworks like Apache Struts, Tapestry and Spring. In my thesis, the principles of framworks and the work with them are described. Concerning another part of my thesis, there are simple applications which use this frameworks. The work gives instructions to make these applications. It describes and compares the latest versions of these tools. It deals more with framework Spring, describes its elementary principles and modules with enhanced sight to Web MVC of Spring.

Det mesta av all information som hittas på nätet som inte är i löpande text, presenteras ofta i tabeller. För att stora tabeller ska vara lättare att hitta i för användaren görs de ibland interaktiva, dvs att de går att sortera efter vald kolumn eller att de går att söka i. När en interaktiv tabell ska implementeras i en webbapplikation kan olika tekniker användas, bland annat JavaScript eller olika MVC-ramverk. I följande tekniska experiment undersöks vilken betydelse val av ramverk gör för exekveringstiden vid sorteringar av tabellens innehåll, och hur tabellens storlek påverkar sorteringens tid. Ramverken har även jämförts med handskriven JavaScript. De två MVC-ramverk som testats är AngularJS och Backbone.js. Resultatet av olika tester som genomförts i experimentet visar att det spelar stor roll vilket ramverk som väljs för detta. Av de ramverk som testats utför webbapplikationen skriven med AngularJS sorteringarna snabbast.

Cloud computing portrays a new model for providing IT services over the Internet. In cloud computing, resources are accessed from the Internet through web-based tools. Although cloud computing offers reduced cost, increased storage, high automation, flexibility, mobility, and the ability of IT to shift focus, there are other concerns such as the management, organization and structure of content on the cloud that large organizations should consider before migrating to the cloud. This thesis presents an overview of Model View Controller (MVC) architectural pattern and describes how the pattern can be applied to the cloud for content management. The MVC architecture is proposed in this thesis because it divides the aspects of a document into three parts: a model, view and controller, thus allowing elasticity, portability, and interoperability for document objects. The thesis presents a case study to illustrate how MVC can be used to facilitate document collaboration and content management in the cloud, and examines existing document standards to assess their readiness in supporting the MVC document architecture.

Motor Vehicle Crashes (MVCs) are a public health problem in the United States. In 2009, 33,808 Americans were killed in a MVC and 2.22 million more were injured.4 Pulmonary contusion (PC) is a common injury following MVC with over 38% of the Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) 3+ thoracic injuries identified as some form of PC in a recent National Automotive Sampling System (NASS) study.5 Miller et al. correlated the percent injured lung to the possibility of developing Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). The results indicated that if 20% of the lung was injured, the incidence of ARDS sharply increased with seventy-eight percent of those patients developing ARDS.2 The significance of these findings is that the volumetric measurement of PC can predict possible clinical outcomes.

Thanks to its favorable reduction scale law, and its easy integration, electrokinetics has emerged over the last fifteen years as one of the major solution to drive flows in fully integrated lab-on-chip. At microscale, an efficient mixing is a keystep which can dramatically accelerate bio-reactions. For thirty years, Dynamical System theory has predicted that chaotic mixing must involve at least 3 dimensions (either time dependent 2D flows or 3D flows). However, in microfluidics, few works have yet presented efficient embedded micromixers. This paper presents experimental and theoretical study of 2D time dependent chaotic mixing using AC electrothermal fluid flows. Experiments and numerical simulations are performed on a top view device and a sideview device. In both devices, a sinusoidal electric signal is applied between 3 interdigitated gold electrodes. A phase signal Vpp = 11V and a ground are switched between the two side electrodes using a step function, whereas the opposite phase signal –Vpp is steadily applied to the center electrode (Figure 1). Flow velocity is measured by micro particle image velocimetry μ PIV. The velocity profile shows a dramatic asymmetry between the two vortices. Therefore, during the switch, vortices overlap, leading to stretching and folding flows required to obtain chaotic mixing (Figure 3 and 4). The experimental measurements validate our electrothermal models based on our previous work [1]. The mixing efficiency of low diffusive particles is studied at multiscale using the mix-variance coefficient (MVC) [2] to evaluate mixing at different scales (Figure 4). To do so, the domain is successively divided in boxes along the x and y direction up to nx and ny boxes, respectively. For each box configuration, average bead concentration is computed. The variance of these concentrations is then evaluated: MVCs=1nxny∑i=1ny∑j=1nxρij-0.52. The result of numerically evaluated MVC in Figure 2 show a dramatic increase of mixing efficiency with blinking vortices compared to steady flow. Theoretical, experimental and simulation results of the mixing process will be presented.

Recently Torrefaction processes are used to improve the quality of fuels. Upper limit on torrefaction temperature can be determined using the maximum volatile release method (MVR) in deducing the kinetics of pyrolysis. The single reaction model (SRM), parallel reaction model (PRM also known as distributed reaction model) and three component models (TCM for hemicellulose, cellulose and lignin) of pyrolysis are briefly reviewed. The MVR method uses the maximum volatile release rate conditions for extracting the kinetics of pyrolysis. Thermogravimetric (TGA) and Differential Thermal (DTA) analyses for mesquite biomass were performed in a thermo-gravimetric instrument and particularly the pyrolysis data of the mesquite samples from MVR are compared with those of SRM and PRM. The focus of current paper is on the extraction of kinetics data (activation energies and pre-exponential factors) from various methods: MVR for the SRM (called as SRM-MVR), PRM and SRM-CA and on the comparison of experimental data with model predictions from SRM-MVR, SRM-CA and PRM for mesquite fuel. It was found that the SRM-CA displays the largest error to predict the mass loss, and SRM-MVR generated less error than SRM-CA even though the kinetics data for SRM-MVR were extracted using a single point. The predicted pyrolysis behavior from the PRM exhibits the best agreement for the whole domain of pyrolysis but peak point which is of importance in torrefaction process is not predicted well. Particularly the kinetics data generated with SRM-MVR is useful in estimating the upper limit on temperature of torrefaction for biomass fuels.

(1990) estimated that, in 1985 alone, 15,300 pelvic fractures occurred during MVCs in the United States. Since the early 1990’s, the incidence of pelvic fractures has significantly increased (Inaba et al., 2004), which is alarming since more patients die from pelvic fracture than from any other skeletal injury (Cryer, 1996).

This Dredging Operations and Technical Support (DOTS) program technical note presents the results of a study undertaken at the request of staff from the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Rock Island District (MVR) as part of a larger effort examining the potential creation of seven new permanent mooring cells along the Upper Mississippi River in proximity to lock and dam (LD) locations selected by MVR. MVR staff were interested in evaluating vessel traffic and identifying unofficial mooring areas (i.e., waiting areas) in the vicinity of LD7, LD10, LD11, LD14, LD15, LD20, and LD22; they were also interested in travel times from those unofficial mooring areas to the destination lock. The search distance for unofficial mooring areas was limited to 20 miles from the lock, or the distance to the next closest lock if less than 20 miles, in the appropriate direction (i.e., upstream or downstream), as specified by MVR staff.

Para ello, la metodología utiliza métodos etnográficos y proporciona una representación gráfica del viaje o Mapa de Viaje de Cliente (MVC). Esta herramienta ayuda a identificar elementos clave para visualizar la aplicación de la metodología y permite orientar a los investigadores para encontrar brechas y barreras de modo que permita definir acciones de mejora en la planificación, diseño, implementación y operación de los sistemas de transporte público. La metodología tiene dos partes: i) Acompañamiento y observación del viaje completo y cotidiano de las personas con discapacidad permanente o temporal, y ii) análisis y visualización de la experiencia de viaje, mediante la elaboración de un Mapa de Viaje de Cliente para cada uno de los usuarios observados. La metodología se aplicó en Bogotá, Santiago de Chile y Medellín. Los resultados de la metodología permitieron formular recomendaciones de políticas para mejorar los sistemas de transporte de estas ciudades a corto, mediano y largo plazo.
