The rapid expansion of eucalyptus cultivation necessitates studies that can identify areas amenable to the planting and development of its different varieties. This study therefore aimed to verify the suitability of two varieties of eucalyptus in the state of Espírito Santo, using Geographic Information Systems supported by strategic decision analysis. Mean precipitation, mean temperature, hydric deficit and land slope data were used as decision factors. These factors were submitted to fuzzy standardization, aggregated and compensated by the Weighted Linear Combination (WLC) process, resulting in the final aptitude mapping. For the reconciliation of conflict areas between the varieties, the Multi-objective Land Allocation (MOLA) module was used to maximize the suitability of the land for the objective. The WLC analysis allowed us to identify the suitability of the areas and with the use of the MOLA module it was possible to resolve the conflict of suitability between the two eucalyptus varieties. Most of the state of Espírito Santo is highly suitable for the the development of varieties. The northwestern region and part of the northern region presented less suitability for both analyzed eucalyptus varieties. Considering the 10,000 km2 most adaptable area for eucalyptus cultivation in the state of Espírito Santo, it was verified that the most suitable areas for planting the two eucalyptus varieties are located in the mountainous regions, part of the southern region and near the northeastern coast.

Land-use optimization is an effective technique to produce optimal benefits in urban land-use planning. There are many approaches and methods to optimize land-use allocation. However, the focus on addressing urban sustainability in land-use optimization is very limited. In this study, we presented a GIS-based multicriteria decision-making (GIS-MCDM) approach to optimize the location of a new residential development considering sustainability dimensions (social, economic, and environmental benefits). Rajshahi City in Bangladesh was taken as a case study. Different types of data, including land use, land cover, ecosystem service value, land surface temperature, and carbon storage, were used to define sustainability criteria. Five physical criteria, three sustainability criteria, and two constraints were used to optimize residential land. Fuzzy membership functions were used to standardize the criteria. The ordered weighted averaging (OWA) was used to produce a residential suitability map. Finally, the multiobjective land allocation (MOLA) module of TerrSet v 19.0 was used to generate optimal locations under an alternative decision scenario. The findings suggest that about 9.00% more sustainability benefits can be achieved using our approach. Using our proposed approach, we also generated six alternative decision scenarios. Among the alternative decision strategies, “high risk–no trade-off” proved to be the most optimal decision strategy that generated the highest sustainability benefit in our case.

<abstract><p>We give the relationship between indecomposable modules over the finite dimensional $ k $-algebra $ A $ and the smash product $ A\sharp G $ respectively, where $ G $ is a finite abelian group satisfying $ G\subseteq Aut(A) $, and $ k $ is an algebraically closed field with the characteristic not dividing the order of $ G $. More precisely, we construct all indecomposable $ A\sharp G $-modules from indecomposable $ A $-modules and prove that an $ A\sharp G $-module is indecomposable if and only if it is an indecomposable $ G $-stable module over $ A $. Besides, we give the relationship between simple, projective and injective modules in $ modA $ and those in $ modA\sharp G $.</p></abstract>

Recently, there are increasing demands of a size reduction and a fine interconnection technology, especially for System-in-Package (SiP) module and Package on Package (POP) module in a smart phone and a wearable electronic device. In this study, we presented the Plating Mold Via (PMV) interconnection technology as an innovative fine pitch interconnection solution between substrate I/O pads and package I/O pads in molded System-in-Package (SiP) modules. Similar to the Through Mold Via (TMV), the laser mold via process is first performed to produce a through-via in the Epoxy Mold Compound (EMC) mold, but plating and Soldering process are used simultaneously to produce the metallurgical interconnection to embody the I/O pins of the over-molded surface. After the PMV technology is described, a study of PMV in the molded packaging module is followed. The study is conducted using a test vehicle of SiP module that contains flip chips, Quad Flat Non-leaded (QFN) packages and passives. It is focused on several interface reliability issues, including the interfacial strength of PMV to substrate metal pad as well as to the laser projected area of EMC, and the study of IMC at the plating metal and solder interfaces. The study clearly shows that the PMV technology is a promising fine pitch interconnect solution for various SiP modules.

The High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on the Mars Express orbiter (Neukum et al. 2004) is a multi-line pushbroom scanner that can obtain stereo and color coverage of targets in a single overpass, with pixel scales as small as 10&amp;thinsp;m at periapsis. Since commencing operations in 2004 it has imaged ~&amp;thinsp;77&amp;thinsp;% of Mars at 20&amp;thinsp;m/pixel or better. The instrument team uses the Video Image Communication And Retrieval (VICAR) software to produce and archive a range of data products from uncalibrated and radiometrically calibrated images to controlled digital topographic models (DTMs) and orthoimages and regional mosaics of DTM and orthophoto data (Gwinner et al. 2009; 2010b; 2016). Alternatives to this highly effective standard processing pipeline are nevertheless of interest to researchers who do not have access to the full VICAR suite and may wish to make topographic products or perform other (e. g., spectrophotometric) analyses prior to the release of the highest level products. We have therefore developed software to ingest HRSC images and model their geometry in the USGS Integrated Software for Imagers and Spectrometers (ISIS3), which can be used for data preparation, geodetic control, and analysis, and the commercial photogrammetric software SOCET SET (® BAE Systems; Miller and Walker 1993; 1995) which can be used for independent production of DTMs and orthoimages. <br><br> The initial implementation of this capability utilized the then-current ISIS2 system and the generic pushbroom sensor model of SOCET SET, and was described in the DTM comparison of independent photogrammetric processing by different elements of the HRSC team (Heipke et al. 2007). A major drawback of this prototype was that neither software system then allowed for pushbroom images in which the exposure time changes from line to line. Except at periapsis, HRSC makes such timing changes every few hundred lines to accommodate changes of altitude and velocity in its elliptical orbit. As a result, it was necessary to split observations into blocks of constant exposure time, greatly increasing the effort needed to control the images and collect DTMs. <br><br> Here, we describe a substantially improved HRSC processing capability that incorporates sensor models with varying line timing in the current ISIS3 system (Sides 2017) and SOCET SET. This enormously reduces the work effort for processing most images and eliminates the artifacts that arose from segmenting them. In addition, the software takes advantage of the continuously evolving capabilities of ISIS3 and the improved image matching module NGATE (Next Generation Automatic Terrain Extraction, incorporating area and feature based algorithms, multi-image and multi-direction matching) of SOCET SET, thus greatly reducing the need for manual editing of DTM errors. We have also developed a procedure for geodetically controlling the images to Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter (MOLA) data by registering a preliminary stereo topographic model to MOLA by using the point cloud alignment (<i>pc_align</i>) function of the NASA Ames Stereo Pipeline (ASP; Moratto et al. 2010). This effectively converts inter-image tiepoints into ground control points in the MOLA coordinate system. The result is improved absolute accuracy and a significant reduction in work effort relative to manual measurement of ground control. <i>The ISIS and ASP software used are freely available; SOCET SET, is a commercial product.</i> By the end of 2017 we expect to have ported our SOCET SET HRSC sensor model to the Community Sensor Model (CSM; Community Sensor Model Working Group 2010; Hare and Kirk 2017) standard utilized by the successor photogrammetric system SOCET GXP that is currently offered by BAE. In early 2018, we are also working with BAE to release the CSM source code under a BSD or MIT open source license. <br><br> We illustrate current HRSC processing capabilities with three examples, of which the first two come from the DTM comparison of 2007. Candor Chasma (h1235_0001) was a near-periapse observation with constant exposure time that could be processed relatively easily at that time. We show qualitative and quantitative improvements in DTM resolution and precision as well as greatly reduced need for manual editing, and illustrate some of the photometric applications possible in ISIS. At the Nanedi Valles site we are now able to process all 3 long-arc orbits (h0894_0000, h0905_0000 and h0927_0000) without segmenting the images. Finally, processing image set h4235_0001, which covers the landing site of the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) rover and its rugged science target of Aeolus Mons in Gale crater, provides a rare opportunity to evaluate DTM resolution and precision because extensive High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) DTMs are available (Golombek et al. 2012). The HiRISE products have ~&amp;thinsp;50x smaller pixel scale so that discrepancies can mostly be attributed to HRSC. We use the HiRISE DTMs to compare the resolution and precision of our HRSC DTMs with the (evolving) standard products. <br><br> We find that the vertical precision of HRSC DTMs is comparable to the pixel scale but the horizontal resolution may be 15&amp;ndash;30 image pixels, depending on processing. This is significantly coarser than the lower limit of 3&amp;ndash;5 pixels based on the minimum size for image patches to be matched. Stereo DTMs registered to MOLA altimetry by surface fitting typically deviate by 10thinsp;m or less in mean elevation. Estimates of the RMS deviation are strongly influenced by the sparse sampling of the altimetry, but range from <thinsp;50thinsp;m in flat areas to ~&amp;thinsp;100thinsp;m in rugged areas.

This study describes the in vitro testing of elastomeric modules. Measurements were first made from study models to establish the clinical distance over which modules are used for canine retraction. From this preliminary study, a typodont, banded with 0·018” × 0·025” standard edgewise brackets, was set up with the canin-molar distance at 28 mm. Modules for canine retraction were then fitted by 11 clinicians. The applied force ranged from 125 to 310 g (221±51 g). A similar, but more extensive study using six different types of modules and two clinician groups (experienced and less experienced clinicians) was then undertaken. Mean force values for different module types ranged from 195±45 g to 318±90 g. There was no statistically significant difference between the force values applied by experienced and less experienced clinicians

The work is devoted to the processing of fly ash wastes obtained from coal combustion. Based on the non-magnetic fraction of fly ash (its particle size of 0-50 μm), an aluminosilicate glue or liquid glass as a cementing component has been obtained. It was represented by a number of silicate modules (SiO2/Me2O molar ratios): 2, 2.5 and 3 (for three different formulations). The shear deformation tests for glued plates with glues of various silicate modules have been carried out. The shear stresses for the samples with silicate modules of 2.0, 2.5, 3.0 were equal to 48, 66 and 34 kPa, respectively. These results suggest that during the production of aluminosilicate glue, the silicate module of 2.5 is more favored for providing the strongest bond between ceramic tiles.

ABSTRACTThe cellulosome is a supramolecular multienzyme complex formed by species-specific interactions between the cohesin modules of scaffoldin proteins and the dockerin modules of a wide variety of polysaccharide-degrading enzymes. Cellulosomal enzymes bound to the scaffoldin protein act synergistically to degrade crystalline cellulose. However, there have been few attempts to reconstitute intact cellulosomes due to the difficulty of heterologously expressing full-length scaffoldin proteins. We describe the synthesis of a full-length scaffoldin protein containing nine cohesin modules, CipA; its deletion derivative containing two cohesin modules, ΔCipA; and three major cellulosomal cellulases, Cel48S, Cel8A, and Cel9K, of theClostridium thermocellumcellulosome. The proteins were synthesized using a wheat germ cell-free protein synthesis system, and the purified proteins were used to reconstitute cellulosomes. Analysis of the cellulosome assembly using size exclusion chromatography suggested that the dockerin module of the enzymes stoichiometrically bound to the cohesin modules of the scaffoldin protein. The activity profile of the reconstituted cellulosomes indicated that cellulosomes assembled at a CipA/enzyme molar ratio of 1/9 (cohesin/dockerin = 1/1) and showed maximum synergy (4-fold synergy) for the degradation of crystalline substrate and ∼2.4-fold-higher synergy for its degradation than minicellulosomes assembled at a ΔCipA/enzyme molar ratio of 1/2 (cohesin/dockerin = 1/1). These results suggest that the binding of more enzyme molecules on a single scaffoldin protein results in higher synergy for the degradation of crystalline cellulose and that the stoichiometric assembly of the cellulosome, without excess or insufficient enzyme, is crucial for generating maximum synergy for the degradation of crystalline cellulose.

Decreased concentration of phospholipids were observed in brain tissue from individuals with dementia compared with controls, indicating phospholipids might be a key variable in development of age-related cognitive impairment. The reflection of these phospholipid changes in blood might provide both reference for diagnosis/monitoring and potential targets for intervention through peripheral circulation. Using a full-scale targeted phospholipidomic approach, 229 molecular species of plasma phospholipid were identified and quantified among 626 senile residents; the association of plasma phospholipids with MoCA score was also comprehensively discussed. Significant association was confirmed between phospholipid matrix and MoCA score by a distance-based linear model. Additionally, the network analysis further observed that two modules containing PEs were positively associated with MoCA score, and one module containing LPLs had a trend of negative correlation with MoCA score. Furthermore, 23 phospholipid molecular species were found to be significantly associated with MoCA score independent of fasting glucose, lipidemia, lipoproteins, inflammatory variables and homocysteine. Thus, the decreased levels of pPEs containing LC-PUFA and the augmented levels of LPLs were the most prominent plasma phospholipid changes correlated with the cognitive decline, while alterations in plasma PC, PS and SM levels accompanying cognitive decline might be due to variation of lipidemia and inflammatory levels.

Hand pose estimation from RGB images has always been a difficult task, owing to the incompleteness of the depth information. Moon et al. improved the accuracy of hand pose estimation by using a new network, InterNet, through their unique design. Still, the network still has potential for improvement. Based on the architecture of MobileNet v3 and MoGA, we redesigned a feature extractor that introduced the latest achievements in the field of computer vision, such as the ACON activation function and the new attention mechanism module, etc. Using these modules effectively with our network, architecture can better extract global features from an RGB image of the hand, leading to a greater performance improvement compared to InterNet and other similar networks.

The aim of this study was to determine how effective a chewing gum regime is in treating the common minor complaints of third molar surgery. The efficacy of a six-day chewing gum regimen in reducing pain, swelling and trismus after third molar surgery was compared to no chewing gum therapy. Third molar surgery is an important part of any maxillofacial surgery practice. There is an ongoing quest to find new and innovative methods to treat the minor complaints of this procedure.

Les courants IKr et IKs jouent un rôle fondamental dans le contrôle de la phase de repolarisation du potentiel d'action cardiaque chez de nombreuses espèces. Une prolongation excessive de la durée de la repolarisation constitue un mécanisme proarythmique, pouvant générer des torsades de pointe aboutissant à la mort subite du patient par fibrillation ventriculaire. Il est clairement montré aujourd'hui que les molécules de toutes classes pharmacologiques, peuvent générer ces troubles du rythme par inhibition de la composante IKr. Ceci a conduit à la naissance de la pharmacologie de sécurité, qui évalue en phase pré clinique, les effets de toutes molécules sur la repolarisation cardiaque et plus particulièrement sur le courant potassique IKr. Ces évaluations ne concernent pas le courant IKs, qui néanmoins, joue un rôle important dans la régulation de la durée du potentiel d'action. Partant de ces données, l'objectif de notre étude a été la mise en place d'un modèle cellulaire exprimant de façon stable le canal KCNQ1 / KCNE1 responsable du courant IKs. Les résultats publiés dans le British Journal of Pharmacology montrant la prolongation de l'intervalle QT de l’électrocardiogramme par un agent anticancéreux inhibant le courant IKs, la doxorubicine, justifie l’intérêt de ce modèle. Dans la dernière partie de notre étude, nous avons étudiés les conséquences d’une inhibition du courant IKs sur la réserve de repolarisation, en présence du courant sodique lent (INaL), présent dans des situations pathologiques telles que le syndrome du QT long de type 3 ou les périodes post infarctus, au cours desquelles la durée de la repolarisation est allongée
IKr and IKs currents play a fundamental role in the cardiac repolarization phase of the action potential in many species. An excessive prolongation of repolarization is considered as proarrhythmic mechanism which may cause torsades de pointes leading to sudden death. Many pharmacological molecules can induce these arrhythmias by IKr inhibition. This has led to the emergence of safety pharmacology that consists to evaluate (in pre-clinical studies) the effects of all drugs on cardiac repolarization, particularly on the potassium current IKr and on the QT interval of electrocardiogram. Although the IKs current plays an important role in the regulation of the action potential duration these evaluations do not concern this current. Based on these data, the objective of the present study was to develop a cellular model stably expressing the KCNQ1 / KCNE1 channels which responsible for the IKs current. The interest of this cell model is shown by the results published in the “British Journal of Pharmacology”. In this paper, we show a prolongation of the QT interval, by inhibition of the IKs current, by an anticancer agent, doxorubicin. In the last part, we showed the role of IKs in repolarisation reserve when action potential is prolonged by INaL increase as observed in LQT3 syndrome or in post-infarct period

The purpose of this study was to determine duration time, breakage and apical displacement, whilst using six different endodontic filing systems to prepare molar teeth. A total of 96 molar teeth were used in the study, divided equally, ie 16 teeth per system selected randomly, totalling 48 canals per system. A standardised access cavity was prepared for all the teeth before selection. The canals were filed according to the manufacturers&rsquo
guidelines. The result showed that PROTAPER®
, K3&trade
and the combination of: HERO Shaper®
, HERO Apical®
and Endoflare®
(Referred from hereon as HERO System for convenience) were statistically faster than PROFILE®
and FlexMaster®
, which were in turn faster than AETTM. Although breakage did occur in K3&trade
and HERO System this was not deemed statistically significant. Apical displacement occurred in the form of Type 1 in the AETTM, PROFILE®
and HERO System, but once again this was not statistically significant. It was concluded that more aggressive cutting features such as a positive rake
angle, pyramidal shaped tip, progressive taper and absence of radial lands, if present, could have enabled K3&trade
, HERO System and PROTAPER®
to have faster times, and in addition these features did not compromise these systems with regard to apical foramina transportation and breakage.

To compare the use of a piezoelectric with a standard surgical handpiece in third molar surgery. Thirty patients requiring removal of third molars were included in the study. Panoramic radiographs were used to assess the third molars. The patients were randomly subdivided and the split-mouth technique applied. In split-mouth design, divisions of the mouth, such as right (upper and lower) and left (upper and lower) quadrants constitute the experimental units, which are randomly assigned to two treatment groups. Each patient serves as his or her own control, which increases statistical efficiency (Siddiqi et al. 2010). Each side was operated with either a piezoelectric or a conventional handpiece. All aspects of preoperative care, general anaesthesia, surgery and postoperative care were standardized for the groups.

A cultura contemporânea une o Branding e o Design de Moda de uma forma única. O presente trabalho visa propor um modelo de estruturação e identidade visual de uma conferência que possibilite a exposição e a partilha de conhecimentos destas duas áreas. O propósito da criação deste modelo é permitir que se aprofundem os conhecimentos e os processos criativos do Branding e do Design de Moda, para a reprodução de futuras conferências. A problemática concentra-se em definir os princípios orientadores que devem presidir à concepção do modelo. Para alcançar esta definição, foi aplicada a metodologia não-interventiva, ao que corresponde o Estado da Arte, e foi também aplicada a metodologia interventiva, ao que corresponde a componente projectual. O Estudo de Caso, inserido no Estado da Arte, é relevante para a compreensão de conceitos que se relacionam com o tema do projecto, pois oferece uma perspectiva do ponto de vista da organização e da comunicação, que se relaciona com esta temática. Este envolveu uma análise aprofundada das características gerais e dos elementos do Sistema de Identidade Visual de quatro marcas, com o objectivo de diagnosticar o posicionamento e o funcionamento destas. A partir do Estudo de Caso, foi concebida a marca CONFERÊNCIA BRANDING & MODA, em que a sua missão se concentra na divulgação e comunicação dos conceitos adjacentes ao tema desenvolvido. O mesmo acontece com a promessa, que pretende promover a cultura do Branding e do Design de Moda, através do modelo de conferência. A imagem de marca da conferência segue uma linguagem visual coerente e integradora dos pareceres do Branding e do Design de Moda, e contém uma identidade que segue as mesmas tendências das marcas analisadas, fornecendo pistas para trabalhos futuros nesta matéria.
Contemporary culture combines Branding and Fashion Design in a unique way. The present study aims to propose a model of structuring and visual identity of a conference that allows the presentation and sharing of knowledge in these two areas. The purpose of the creation of this model is to allow deepen the knowledge and the creative processes of Branding and Fashion Design, for the reproduction of future conferences. The question and the problem focuse on defining the guiding principles that should govern the design of the model. To achieve this definition, the methodology applied was noninterventional, which corresponds to the state of the art, and also interventional, which corresponds to the project-component. The Case Study, included in the state of the art, is relevant to an understanding of concepts related to the theme of the project, and offers a perspective from the point of view of the organization and communication as it relates to this subject. This involved a thorough analysis of the general characteristics and elements of the Visual System Identity of four brands, in order to diagnose the position and operation of these. From the case study, was designed the brand of the CONFERÊNCIA BRANDING & MODA (CONFERENCE FASHION AND BRANDING), where its mission focuses on the dissemination and communication of concepts surrounding the theme. The same happens with the promise, which aims to promote the culture of Branding and Fashion Design, through the conference model. The visual identity of the conference follows a consistent visual language and integrates the opinions of Branding and Fashion Design, and contains an identity that follows the same trends of brands analyzed, providing clues for a future work in this area.

Låga moln definieras av att ha molnbasen från 0 till 2 km ovanför markytan. Molnbildande bygger på att den relativa fuktigheten stiger med höjden tills vattenångan i luften kondenseras. Prognosmodeller för moln bygger på grundläggande termodynamiska och fluiddynamiska ekvationer. Områden delas in i ett rutnät och ekvationerna löses med numeriska metoder. För jämförelse kan mätinstrument samt observationer användas, såsom ceilometrar, radar eller observatörer.  Resultat från fyra olika experiment med prognosmodeller för moln används i detta arbete, som är en litteraturstudie för att undersöka modellers förmåga att simulera låga moln. Olika platser, på global och lokal skala, undersöks. Makroskopiska parametrar såsom molnandel och molnfrekvens är i fokus.  WRF-modellen fungerar bäst med 12 km horisontell upplösning, med en viss överskattning av molnfrekvensen. Modellen CAM5 simulerar molnandel väl men vatteninnehåll och isinnehåll underskattas respektive överskattas. Säsongscykler av låga moln fångas väl av modellerna ECMWF, ARPEGE, RACMO och Met Office, med viss överskattning från samtliga modeller. GFS-modellen överskattar molnandelen långt från ekvatorn med upp mot 80% men underskattar nära ekvatorn med 10–20%. Överskattningar och underskattningar kan bero på faktorer såsom otillräcklig representation av mikrofysik eller möjligtvis felaktiga mätdata. Det denna studie visar är däremot att prognosmodeller på lokal skala kan ge bra simuleringar av makroskopiska parametrar av låga moln.
Cloud types are defined by the height of their bases. Low-level clouds have cloud base heights between 0 and 2 km. They are formed when the relative humidity in the air reaches 100 %, leading to the formation of cloud droplets. Forecast models simulate clouds by integrating thermodynamic and fluid dynamic equations using numerical methods. Instruments and observations, such as ceilometers or observers, are used to assess the accuracy of these simulations.  This study uses four previous works, where forecast models have been used to forecast clouds, to study the accuracy of low-level cloud forecasts. This is done on both local and global scales, focusing on macroscopic characteristics such as cloud fractions and frequencies. The results show that the WRF model works best with a horizontal resolution of 12 km, with slight overestimation of cloud frequencies. The climate model CAM5 simulates cloud fractions well, but liquid- and ice content deviate significantly from measurements. Seasonal cycles are generated well by ECMWF, ARPEGE, RACMO and Met Office Unified Model, with reoccurring overestimations by all models. The GFS model overestimates cloud fractions in higher latitudes by up to 80%, but underestimates near the equator by 10-20%.  Lacking representation of microphysics in the models, or faulty data, can be the causes for deviations in the models. However, this study has shown that forecast models can simulate macroscopic parameters of low-level clouds on a local scale well.

Diversas metodologias e tipos de ensaios mecânicos têm sido utilizados para o estudo das propriedades mecânicas de tecidos biológicos moles, tais como as artérias. O ambiente de carga a que uma artéria é submetida pode ser simulado in-vitro mediante testes de tração biaxial. Uma máquina de tração biaxial está sendo construída atualmente no Laboratório de Engenharia Ambiental e Biomédica da Escola Politécnica da Universidade de São Paulo. Para conduzir futuras pesquisas neste tipo de equipamento uma metodologia para a realização do teste e o processamento dos dados foi proposta e testada. Testes de tração biaxiais em aortas e subclávias suínas foram feitos para avaliar a metodologia. As amostras foram levadas até à ruptura nos ensaios. Curvas de tensão-deformação foram obtidas. O limite à ruptura e o limite elástico foram calculados. O modelo de Função de Energia de Deformação bidimensional para materiais hiperelásticos proposto por Fung e o modelo bicamada proposto por Holzapfel foram utilizados para realizar um ajuste dos dados experimentais. Um programa computacional foi implementado para o processamento dos dados e para estimar as constantes dos modelos matemáticos. Análises histológicas das amostras foram realizadas com o objetivo de estimar a média do conteúdo de colágeno e elastina no tecido. Resulta deste trabalho uma descrição de metodologia para caracterização de tecidos biológicos moles.
Several methods and types of mechanical tests have been used to study the mechanical properties of soft biological tissues such as arteries. The load environment that an artery is subjected can be simulated in vitro through biaxial tensile tests. A biaxial tensile machine is currently being built at the Laboratory of Biomedical and Environmental Engineering at the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo. To conduct further research on this kind of machine, a methodology for performing the test and data processing was proposed and tested. The biaxial tensile tests on aortas and subclavian porcine arteries were done to evaluate the methodology. The samples were tested up to the rupture. Stress-strain curves were obtained. The limit to rupture and the elastic limit were estimated. The two-dimensional model of strain energy function for hyperelastic materials proposed by Fung and the bilayer model proposed by Holzapfel were used to perform an adjustment of the experimental data. A computer program was implemented for data processing and to estimate the constants of the mathematical models. Histological analyses of the samples were performed in order to estimate the average content of collagen and elastin in the tissue. A description of the methodology for soft biological tissue characterization results from the present work.

As ligas com memória de forma são materiais metálicos que exibem propriedades termoelásticas muito originais: Efeito da Memória de Forma e Pseudoelasticidade (superelasticidade e efeito tipo borracha). Estas ligas estão cada vez mais despertando interesse e reconhecimento nos últimos anos. Isto se deve a sua principal característica de retomar uma forma ou tamanho previamente definidos, quando submetidos a um ciclo térmico apropriado. O objetivo principal deste trabalho é o desenvolvimento de um modelo térmico e mecânico do comportamento de uma mola helicoidal de Ni-Ti com Efeito Memória de Forma (EMF) para ser empregada em um novo modelo de uma máquina de calor funcional. Esta máquina de calor é acionada por uma mola de Ni-Ti que funciona entre uma fonte quente (373 K) e uma fonte fria (273 K). Para obtenção da mola utilizou-se um arame de Ni-Ti de 2,2mm de diâmetro. Para esta mola de Ni-Ti obter o efeito memória de forma reversível foi necessário submetê-la a um treinamento, já que acontece quando a mudança de forma é promovida apenas pela variação de temperatura. Um projeto mecânico desta máquina foi construído para determinação das forças dissipativas geradas pela mola. Foram desenvolvidas as equações de calor e as equações da dinâmica que descrevem o comportamento da mola. Através das equações da dinâmica desenvolvidas pode-se determinar a massa mínima para o movimento da máquina, bem como a potência instantânea e média e o rendimento global. Pode-se verificar a funcionalidade da máquina através de uma relação do ângulo de inclinação da hélice e o coeficiente de atrito estático. Dentre os principais resultados foi observado que o rendimento global da máquina, comparado ao das máquinas desta categoria mostrou a viabilidade do projeto.

A detailed study was performed to evaluate the thermal performance of RF Modules and to identify meaningful correlations between specific design characteristics and the power dissipation needed to satisfy the required thermal budget under various critical operating conditions. The investigation focuses on the thermal characteristics of the RF module die layout and transistor cells, and on the thermal impact of the metallic air bridges connecting the load cells to the collector pads/vias to the overall thermal performance of the RF module. A first-pass modeling predicts higher temperatures than IR measurement, by ~20–30%. The addition of the die layout air bridges connecting the load cells in the detailed simulation models leads to a predicted air bridge temperature of ~9% higher than the IR measurement. Additional modeling reveals that between the open (not encapsulated) and the closed module, the die peak temperature differs by less than 3 °C, most of the heat being dissipated through the substrate and board to the heat stage. Thus, the impact of mold compound is insignificant. For a closed module, the mold compound helps dissipate the heat, so the die temperature is slightly cooler than for the open module (&lt;&lt;3°C). This suggests that the die peak temperature measured in an open module can be adjusted (by subtracting 2–3°C) to represent the die temperature in a closed module.

Abstract An accurate description of pseudo-component compositions is required for Equation of State predictions for gas condensate systems. Very often these extended experimental data are unavailable and must be generated using mathematical models, of which the exponential and the three-parameter gamma distribution functions are the two most widely used. The development of these two techniques was based on the assumption of a continuous molar relationship for pseudo-components. However, experimental compositional data for gas condensate systems show discontinuities in this relationship at SCN8 and SCN13. The above models when applied to extend the C7+ fraction for Trinidad gas condensates, under predict the SCN8 mole percent and over predict the SCN12 mole percent due to the aforementioned discontinuities. The Average Absolute Deviation between the predicted and experimental SCN8 and SCN12 data were both greater than 25 percent. The two coefficient method described by Ahmed et al., when applied to extend the C7+ fraction, reduced the discontinuity at SCN8 to less than 12 percent. However the SCN12 group still had a deviation greater than 18 percent. These results show that existing models were not designed to take care of these discontinuities and should be used with caution when extending experimental data beyond SCN7. The Model described in this study resolves these discontinuities in the molar relationships at both SCN8 and SCN12 with an Average Absolute Deviation between the predicted and experimental compositions of less than 10 percent. This model can quite easily be included in Equation of State packages for a more accurate description of compositions for Trinidad gas condensates for performing compositional simulation studies. A partial analysis beyond the C7+ fraction is not required with this new model.

This paper presents the design and optimization of a temperature-pressure sensing module that is structurally integrated into an injection mold. The sensor extracts energy from the polymer melt pressure differential during the injection molding process and uses ultrasonic pulses as the wireless information transmission carrier. The dimension of the piezo ceramic rings that scavenge energy from the mold pressure change is optimized to minimize the volume of the sensor while maintaining the minimum Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) required for reliable signal reception. An analytical expression of the optimal dimension is presented. Based on the optimized design, the sensor module package, together with the injection mold steel and the polymer melt that flows over the sensor into the mold cavity, was modeled using the finite element method. To quantify the behavior of polymer melt and its effect on sensors output, a coupled fluid-structure interaction analysis was performed to examine the mold-melt interface, by using the solution-looping and mesh-morphing techniques. A case study of the sensor design for a 40 mm thick injection mold was investigated by using the presented optimization method and FEA model. Results show that the volume of the piezo stack can be reduced to 0.7 cm3 while meeting the minimum SNR requirement. The minimum insulator thickness of 1 mm is presented by the FEA model to maintain the thermal induced error below 0.5%.

This work focuses on modeling and performance evaluation of an anodic re-circulation system including ejector technology, pre-reformer and solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC). An improved one-dimensional dynamic model of a simple tubular SOFC cycle components in the engineering equation solver (EES) environment is presented. In this simulation, ejector and pre-reformer components are modeled thermodynamically and a simple electrochemical SOFC model is developed all these models are coupled together to predict the operation of the cycle. The goal is to predict the effect of input parameters such as fuel mixing ratio and temperature on output parameters (i.e. pressure ratio increase, outlet temperature and molar fractions). Therefore the model determines the pressure, temperature and fuel composition variations of each component and the complete cycle at different points. For instance the model for ejector predicts the effect of mixing ratio and temperature on the pressure ratio as well as outlet temperature (operating temperature of pre-reformer) of induced fluid. In addition the model for pre-reformer predicts the effect of input gas temperature on the shift and reforming reactions kinetic. The SOFC developed electrochemical model predicts the effects of electrical load variations on out put gas composition as well as its characteristics. Finally components model are coupled together to conduct a parametric study of the complete cycle. It is found that at the low mixing ratio the pressure variation with the mixing ratio is very sharp but at mixing ratios higher than 1.5 the outlet pressure curve will become smooth. And also it is observed that CH4 mole fraction decreases but H2 and CO2 mole fractions will increase as the input temperature augments.

Validation of a tolerance analysis for the assembly of modular, polymer microfluidic devices was performed using simulations and experiments. A set of three v-groove and hemisphere-tipped post joints was adopted as a model assembly features. An assembly function with assembly feature dimensions and locations was modeled kinematically. Monte Carlo methods were applied to the assembly function to simulate variation of the assembly. Assembly accuracy was evaluated assuming that the variations of the assembly features were randomly distributed. The estimated mismatches were 118 ± 30 μm and 19 ± 13 μm along the X- and Y-axes, respectively. The estimated vertical gap between the modules at the alignment standards along the X- and Y-axes 312 ± 37 μm and 313 ± 37 μm, compared to the designed value of 287 μm. To validate the tolerance model, two micromilled brass mold inserts containing the assembly features and alignment standards were used to double-sided injection mold polymer parts. The accuracy of the assembly of the modular microdevices was estimated by measuring the mismatch and vertical gaps between alignment standards on each axis. The measured lateral mismatches were 103 ± 6 μm and 16 ± 4 μm along the X- and Y-axes, respectively. The vertical gaps measured for the assemblies were 316 ± 4 μm and 296 ± 9 μm at the X- and Y-axes, compared to the designed distance of 287 μm. Simulation and experimental results were in accordance with each other. The models can be used to predict the assembly tolerance of polymer microfluidic devices and have significant potential for enabling the realization of cost-effective mass production of modular instruments.

Abstract Improvements in part quality and cost reduction are the primary objectives of CAE use in the injection molding industry. Engineers use advanced injection molding simulation software to analyze and verify their part designs. Traditionally, engineers have had to rerun simulations to verify the effects of changes in gate locations. For complex models, simulations are very time consuming. To reduce the design cycle time, a Design Optimization Module is developed by C-MOLD. One of the functions of this new software module is to automatically select optimal gate locations. This innovative technology is the result of close R&D collaboration between C-MOLD and LG-PRC in Korea. An overview of gate location optimization technology is presented in this paper, and several examples are also presented as illustration.

The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) presents strong potential to mold regional trade and investment patterns well into the future and to influence the direction of global economic cooperation at a challenging time. This paper evaluates the RCEP’s impact on global and regional incomes, trade, economic structure, factor returns, and employment using a computable general equilibrium model. The results suggest that the RCEP agreement could generate sizable global income gains. Together with the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement on Trans-Pacific Partnership, the RCEP will also strengthen the region’s manufacturing supply chains, raising productivity and increasing wages and employment.

Im Zuge der fortlaufenden Digitalisierung im Mobilitätssektor werden aktuell besonders in Großstädten verstärkt geteilte on-demand Fahrdienstleistungen implementiert. Das sog. Ridepooling beschreibt eine dynamische und digitale Form des konventionellen Sammeltaxis, bei welcher durch eine intelligente Algorithmik mehrere voneinander unabhängige, zeitlich korrespondierende Fahrtwünsche in Echtzeit zu einer Route kombiniert werden. So können einander unbekannte Kund*innen gemeinsam und gleichzeitig nach ihren individuellen Bedürfnissen auf Direktverbindungen befördert werden. Viele der Ridepooling-Angebote werden in urban geprägten Raumstrukturen von privaten Verkehrsunternehmen - teilweise sogar eigenwirtschaftlich - betrieben und als nachhaltige Mobilitätsform beworben: Sie soll die sich individualisierenden Mobilitätsbedürfnisse der Bürger*innen befriedigen, dadurch städtische Problematiken wie hohe Luft- und Lärmbelastung, Staubildung sowie Flächenknappheit adressieren und zu einer umweltfreundlichen Verlagerung des lokalen Verkehrsaufkommens (Modal Shift) führen. Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht am Beispiel der Großstädte Berlin und Hamburg, wie und unter welchen Zielsetzungen der unterschiedlichen Akteure die neuen Angebotsformen implementiert wurden und welche Auswirkungen sie auf die städtischen Mobilitätssysteme haben. Durch Expert*innen-Interviews mit städtischen Behörden, öffentlichen und privaten Verkehrsunternehmen, Verkehrsverbünden und Expert*innen für digitale und städtische Mobilität soll der aktuell noch geringe Forschungsstand über die Zielsetzungen, Formen und Auswirkungen von Ridepooling-Angeboten in städtischen Räumen um praxisnahe Betrachtungen und Erkenntnisse erweitert werden. Es kann angenommen werden, dass die unterschiedlichen Ausgestaltungen der untersuchten Angebote von ioki, CleverShuttle, MOIA und BerlKönig dabei durchaus voneinander differierende Effekte auf das Nutzungsverhalten der Kund*innen und die städtische Verkehrsgestaltung sowie deren ökologischen und sozialen Nachhaltigkeitsdimensionen haben.

Анотація:
Bosna i Hercegovina prihvata načelno globalna opredjeljenja i proklamovane ciljeve relevantnih međunarodnih institucija (Pariški Sporazum, Evropski Zeleni Plan, i drugi) za prelaz na održivi niskougljenični razvoj baziran na kružnoj ekonomiji neuslovljenoj upotrebom prirodnih resursa, te težnju ka nultoj neto emisiji stakleničkih gasova. U energetskom sektoru to podrazumijeva povećanje energijske efikasnosti, te bezuvjetni prelaz na obnovljive izvore energije i eliminaciju fosilnih goriva. I dok je opšte opredjeljenje nesporno, način i dinamika ostvarenja pojedinih ciljeva u zacrtanom roku do 2050. godine sa najmanje negativnih ekonomskih, socijalnih, sigurnosnih i političkih posljedica predstavlja ozbiljni izazov, posebno u zemljama koje se, kao Bosna i Hercegovina, tradicionalno oslanjaju na sopstveni ugalj kao primarni energent. U cilju doprinosa iznalaženju optimalnih rješenja u energetskoj transformaciji, a u okviru Plana rada za 2019 godinu, Odbor za energiju, energetiku i okoliš (OEEO) Akademije nauka i umjetnosti Bosne i Hercegovine (ANUBiH) u saradnji i uz finansijsku podršku JP Elektroprivreda Bosne i Hercegovine d.d. Sarajevo, je organizovao regionalnno naučno-stručno savjetovanje: Budućnost postojećih i novih termoelektrana u BiH u energetskoj tranziciji, koje je održano 21. 11. 2019. godine u ANUBiH u Sarajevu. Cilj Savjetovanja je bio da nauka i struka, pod pokroviteljstvom i u okviru ANUBiH, u saradnji sa stručnjacima iz EU i Regije razmjene iskustva, stavove i planove o upotrebi uglja i biogoriva u proizvodnji električne i toplinske energije u periodu do 2050. godine. Na Savjetovanju, kojem su prisustvovali predstavnici vlasti i zvaničnih institucija iz BiH, naučni radnici, stručnjaci, menadžmenti elektroprivrednih organizacija iz oba bh. entiteta, je na bosanskom, srpskom, hrvatskom ili engleskom jeziku na prethodno odabrane teme izloženo 15 referata po pozivu. Pored stručnjaka iz BiH, referate su podnijeli i pozvani eksperti iz zemalja EU i okruženja sa elektroprivrednom strukturom i izazovima u toj oblasti sličnim kao što ih ima i BiH, a koje u proizvodnji električne energije karakteriše značajni, ili čak dominantni oslonac na fosilna goriva, naročito ugalj. U referatima su izloženi mogući modeli tranzicije i iskustva iz BiH, Srbije, Grčke, Sjeverne Makedonije, Poljske i Njemačke. Prošireni sažeci i slide prezentacije svih referata na jezicima na kojima su referati izloženi, kao i Zaključci Savjetovanja su sadržani u ovom Posebnom izdanju ANUBiH. Savjetovanje je potvrdilo da je dekarbonizacija elektroenergetskog sektora u EU i Regiji do 2050. godine opravdan, ali i veoma zahtjevan cilj. Svaka država koja se obavezala za takav cilj, mora razviti svoj model održive tranzicije, koristeći vlastito znanje, pomoć eksperata EU, te iskustva i modele drugih. U tom smislu zaključeno je da je veoma važno u što je moguće kraćem roku, u saradnji sa Energetskom zajednicom, detaljno i odgovorno koncipirati razvoj energetskog sektora u Bosni i Hercegovini u tranzicijskom periodu, dajući pritom do znanja Evropskoj uniji, ali i svima drugima, da je Bosna i Hercegovina spremna pratiti i ispoštovati generalno postavljene ciljeve u toj oblasti, uvažavajući pri tom svoju potrebu za energetskom neovisnošću. U tom cilju potrebno je definirati jasnu viziju, sa prohodnim putem do postavljenih ciljeva, uzimajući u obzir sve relevantne direktive i regulativu EU, ali i realne mogućnosti i potrebe Bosne i Hercegovine. Iskustva i poruke izložene u referatima, diskusije tokom Savjetovanja, te saznanja do kojih smo došli, a koji su sumirani u Zaključcima ovog dokumenta, čine korisnu bazu i orijentir za konkretizaciju strategije za aktuelnu tranziciju energetskog sektora BiH.

Original objectives: Dipping of table grapes in ethanol was determined to be an effective measure to control postharvest gray mold infection caused by Botrytis cinerea. Our objectives were to study the effects of ethanol on B.cinerea and table grapes and to conduct research that will facilitate the implementation of this treatment. Background: Botrytis cinerea is known as the major pathogen of table grapes in cold storage. To date, the only commercial technology to control it relied on sulfur dioxide (SO₂) implemented by either fumigation of storage facilities or from slow release generator pads which are positioned directly over the fruits. This treatment is very effective but it has several drawbacks such as aftertaste, bleaching and hypersensitivity to humans which took it out of the GRAS list of compounds and warranted further seek for alternatives. Prior to this research ethanol was shown to control several pathogens in different commodities including table grapes and B. cinerea. Hence it seemed to be a simple and promising technology which could offer a true alternative for storage of table grapes. Further research was however required to answer some practical and theoretical questions which remained unanswered. Major conclusions, solutions, achievements: In this research project we have shown convincingly that 30% ethanol is sufficient to prevent germination of B. cinerea and kill the spores. In a comparative study it was shown that Alternaria alternata is also rather sensitive but Rhizopus stolonifer and Aspergillus niger are less sensitive to ethanol. Consequently, ethanol protected the grapes from decay but did not have a significant effect on occurrence of mycotoxigenic Aspergillus species which are present on the surface of the berry. B. cinerea responded to ethanol or heat treatments by inducing sporulation and transient expression of the heat shock protein HSP104. Similar responses were not detected in grape berries. It was also shown that application of ethanol to berries did not induce subsequent resistance and actually the berries were slightly more susceptible to infection. The heat dose required to kill the spores was determined and it was proven that a combination of heat and ethanol allowed reduction of both the ethanol and heat dose. Ethanol and heat did not reduce the amount or appearance of the wax layers which are an essential component of the external protection of the berry. The ethanol and acetaldehyde content increased after treatment and during storage but the content was much lower than the natural ethanol content in other fruits. The efficacy of ethanol applied before harvest was similar to that of the biological control agent, Metschnikowia fructicola, Finally, the performance of ethanol could be improved synergistically by packaging the bunches in modified atmosphere films which prevent the accumulation of free water. Implications, both scientific and agricultural: It was shown that the major mode of action of ethanol is mediated by its lethal effect on fungal inoculum. Because ethanol acts mainly on the cell membranes, it was possible to enhance its effect by lowering the concentration and elevating the temperature of the treatment. Another important development was the continuous protection of the treated bunches by modified atmosphere that can solve the problem of secondary or internal infection. From the practical standpoint, a variety of means were offered to enhance the effect of the treatment and to offer a viable alternative to SO2 which could be instantly adopted by the industry with a special benefit to growers of organic grapes.
