Adolescent mental health has implications for current and future wellbeing. While a link exists between poverty and mental health, little is known about how experiencing material hardship, such as insecurity of food, housing, utilities, and medical care, throughout early childhood affects adolescent mental health. We examine the relationship between material hardship in childhood and adolescent mental health. We use Poisson regression to examine the effect of material hardship experienced at different stages of childhood on adolescent depression and anxiety outcomes at age 15. We use longitudinal data from the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study ( N = 3,222). We find that recently experiencing material hardship during childhood is positively and significantly associated with anxiety and depression symptoms at age 15, even when controlling for material hardship at age 15. Additionally, we find that insecurity during mid-childhood and the stress of lacking basic needs during a critical age may influence mental health in adolescence.

Анотація:
Why are the product design of the Apple Inc. are so successful in the dog-eat-dog market? One of the most important reasons is that the mental imageries of product user experience design of Apple Inc. are close to the user's expectant material mental imageries.In this study, we want to gain the main mental imageries of information product materials user experience design of the target users (18-28 years old university students or the recent graduates in the east of China) in the near future of the next 1-2 years. We used Culture Scan, Contextual Inquiry, Semantic Differential Method, and the Coordinate of Mental Imagery to study. We discovered that the main mental imageries of information product materials user experience design of the target users in the near future of the next 1-2 years are high-technological and fashionable. We built a bridge from the the material mental imagery of the user to the material mental imagery of the designer. The actual demand of the consumers could be more easily understood by the company.

Анотація:
The principle of physical causal closure makes the problem of the ontology of consciousness insoluble since the principle rejects the possibility of mental causation. However, this principle is based on the linear causality model the foundation of which is the connection of material events with each other. The article deals with the possibility of mental causation based on non-material events, reflecting the influence of probability on probability, and not an event on an event. A hypothetical model is considered, in which one state of activity of neural processes in the brain can correspond to various mental states that differ from each other, however, not content-wise but within the framework of a non-material property. The non-material property is defined as the likelihood of mental assessments and, in essence, is the causal topology of mental processes.

Анотація:
To experience an enduring positive state of mind, one needs the proper conditions to do so. In this paper, I discuss the effect of two such conditions: subjective income and perceived respect. Money is necessary to buy food, shelter, but also lifestyle. Therefore, its role in quality of life is well established and cannot be denied in contemporary society. The primary hypothesis is that perceived respect, or if people feel valued in their society, affects mental well-being, irrespective of the current level of income. Using data from European Quality of Life Survey wave four, the year 2016, and multiple linear regression models, I prove for Romania and EU28 that people struggling to live a decent life have a lower level of mental well-being when not feeling valued by others. Background A depression-awareness campaign delivered through the Internet has been recommended as a public health approach that would enhance mental health literacy and encourage help-seeking attitudes. However, the outcomes of such a campaign remain understudied. Objective The main aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of an online depression awareness campaign, which was informed by the theory of planned behavior, to encourage help-seeking attitudes for depression and to enhance mental health literacy in Hong Kong. The second aim was to examine click-through behaviors by varying the affective facial expressions of people in the Facebook advertisements. Methods Potential participants were recruited through Facebook advertisements, using either a happy or sad face illustration. Volunteer participants registered for the study by clicking on the advertisement and were invited to leave their personal email addresses to receive educational content about depression. The participants were randomly assigned into two groups (campaign or control), and over a four consecutive week period, received either the campaign material or official information developed by the Hospital Authority in Hong Kong. Pretests and posttests were conducted before and after the campaign to measure the differences in help-seeking attitudes and mental health literacy among the campaign and control groups. Results Of the 199 participants that registered and completed the pretest, 116 (55 campaign and 62 control) completed the campaign and the posttest. At the posttest, we found no significant changes in help-seeking attitudes between the campaign and control groups, but the campaign group participants demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in mental health literacy (P=.031) and a higher willingness to access additional information (P<.001) than the control group. Moreover, the happy face Facebook advertisement attracted more click-throughs by users into the website than did the sad face advertisement (P=.03). Conclusions The present study provides evidence that an online campaign can enhance people’s mental health literacy. It also demonstrates the practicality and effectiveness of an online depression awareness campaign using a Facebook-based recruitment strategy and distribution of educational materials through emails. It is important for future studies to take advantage of the popularity of online social media and conduct evaluative research on mental health promotion campaigns.

Анотація:
The impact of social and material conditions on mental health is well established but lacking in a coherent approach. We offer the concept of ‘vitality’ as means of describing how environments facilitate ‘feelings of being alive’ that cut across existing diagnostic categories. Drawing on the work of Stern, Fuchs, Worms and Duff, we argue that vitality is not solely a quality of an individual body, but rather emerges from attunements and resonances between bodies and materials. We use vitality as a lens to explore how movements within and between assembled sets of relations can facilitate or disable feelings and expressions of being alive. Building on extended discussions of both inpatient and community-based mental healthcare, we sketch out a research agenda for analysing ‘vital spaces’.

Trata da educação escolar indígena acerca da configuração de sua realidade contemporânea. Sugerimos como hipótese central que a educação escolar indígena contemporânea apresenta como sendo uma de suas facetas mais relevantes e possivelmente hegemônicas em relação a outros direcionamentos nesse campo, a constituição e desenvolvimento profícuo de uma realidade científica confluente com o privilégio e a ênfase que nossa sociedade nacional e globalizada investe sobre a produção de ciência, cultura, política e economia na forma de textos e literaturas fundamentalmente codificadas a partir da escrita, designando a modernidade ocidental como sendo grafocêntrica alfabética em detrimento de outros modos de informação, comunicação, pensamento e práticas próprias de outras formas de sociedade como o caso das etnias indígenas. Defendemos que a prerrogativa empreendida em prol do desenvolvimento textual ou literário grafocentrado no sistema alfabético de comunicação governamental e acadêmico provoca um distanciamento do pensamento e da ação cientifica que se anunciam como comprometidos com as realidades mundanas, objetiva, material – em oposição ao ideal – realista das escolas indígenas cada vez mais presentes e participantes da vida comunitária das inúmeras e diversas etnias habitantes do território político e econômico brasileiro. O privilégio sobre as produções textuais tem como guia hodierno quatro conceitos legislativos e também científicos fundamentais para a configuração teórica e prática da educação escolar indígena: interculturalidade, bilinguismo, diferenciada e específica. Em sendo o centro motriz das experiências e análises acadêmicas e políticas sobre a educação escolar indígena, tais conceitos surgem e são assim reforçados como proposições teóricas e políticas para o desenvolvimento de intervenções educacionais no seio das aldeias indígenas tomando como ambiente privilegiado a escola. Entretanto, os incontáveis fracassos, os diversos efeitos colaterais teóricos e metodológicos provocados pelas aplicações das proposições legislativas; o agravamento de situações específicas junto a um imenso conjunto de mal-entendidos ao lado do acirramento de contradições filosóficas, ideológicas, políticas, econômicas, científicas, críticas e experimentais fizeram com que passássemos a desconfiar – e investigar as – das possibilidades objetivas de realização dos referidos conceitos fundamentais fora dos campos de produções imaginárias – mentais – e textuais concebidas aqui como virtuais, assim como impossíveis de realização dentro das dinâmicas mundanas das comunidades indígenas, suas escolas e seus sujeitos. Em suma, os excelentes e esclarecedores desdobramentos das produções textuais e literárias sobre educação escolar indígena, assim como por esse meio a produção e aperfeiçoamento de instrumentos teórico-metodológicos e técnicotecnológicos cada vez mais complexos e arrojados, não vêm correspondendo com as aparências superestruturais e com as bases infra-estruturais da vida indígena na Modernidade. Assim, a dúvida que passou a nos acometer toma a forma de perguntas como: não seriam os quatro conceitos fundamentais da educação escolar indígena atual aporias e ideologias cujas tentativas de efetivação não seriam esquadrinhadas pelo que entendemos por práticas da alquimia? Nesse sentido, a partir de pensadores como Bachelard, Peirce e Marx/Gramsci sugerimos como práxis o estabelecimento de experimentações cada vez mais radicais e controladas dos mencionados quatro conceitos fundamentais em contextos particulares de educação escolar indígena não em prol da afirmação dos mesmos, mas sim em favor de um ponto de vista científico que tem como garantia de um conhecimento aproximado do real a dúvida e a desconfiança sobre as proposições teóricas geralmente tidas como imutáveis e necessárias.

As mental health professionals seek to disseminate information in many languages in order to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse population, it is important to consider the methods of written translation that the field is choosing to employ. The method chosen for translation can affect the accuracy and usability of the translated text. This study begins with a survey of current literature, the results of which suggest that the most popular translation method in the mental health field is back-translation, a translation method based in the premise that translating a text back into its original English after it has been translated into a second language provides an accurate indication of the success of the translation. This study then compares back-translation with an alternative translation approach based in skopostheorie, an area of translation theory that asserts that translational activity should be ultimately grounded in the purpose of the translation rather than the objective equivalency of the source and target texts. Each of the two approaches is applied separately in the translation of the Centers for Disease Control's handout, "Helping Parents Cope with Disaster," into Spanish and Chinese. The two resulting target texts for each language are compared in terms of linguistic equivalence by review committees and compared in terms of usability by individuals from the target audiences. Feedback from reviewers and audience members in both languages suggest that the skopostheorie based approach to translation may facilitate higher quality translation than back-translation in terms of both equivalence and usability. Suggestions for mental health professionals engaging in translation are then offered, as well as directions for future research.

In an economically developing world, the process of modernization has been proven to change people’s cultural and political values. Political scientists Ronald Inglehart and Christian Wetzel’s revised theory of modernization shows evidence that people’s political and cultural values move along two dimensions in a predictable pattern. Economic development shift people’s values from traditional and survival toward more secular-rational and self- expressive. This rise in post-material values has unknown effects on people’s mental health. Using Esping-Andersen’s theory on welfare state regimes the aim of this study is to both examine what effect post-material values have on mental health and, furthermore, if this effect plays out differently in different welfare state regimes. This was done using regression analysis based on data from a large number of countries from all over the world. The results of the analysis show that a rise in post-material values is positively correlated with worse mental health. But when welfare state regimes were brought into the model the relationship between post-material values and mental health did not stay the same but varied in its effect across the different regimes. The conservative welfare state regime stood out as the regime in which post-material values generated the worst mental health. On the whole, results indicate that the relationship between post-material values, welfare state regimes and mental health is a very complex relationship that is in need of further examination.

Choice making is a fundamental skill for all individuals. Choice opportunities are related with important questions of human development, and of paramount importance to the development of clinical and educational programs for mentally retarded individuals. Despite its practical importance, little is known about the effects that choice may have in the work environment of this population. In this study, choice was investigated under two conditions: with and without environmental work support. Work performance was assessed as a function of conditions chosen. First, four mentally retarded adults learned to perform a work task under those two conditions. The task consisted of assembling notebook covers. An MDF (medium density fiber) board measuring 30cm by 40 cm, was employed as work support and displayed several low relief recipients to suit its different components and was designed to provide immediate feedback, to increase or maintain the rate of work response and to prevent errors during the task routine. A number of small pieces of paper, 2cm by 2cm, in different colors, pieces of thin cardboard, 10cm by 8cm, glue sticks, candies and chocolate bars previously chosen by the participants in preference tests were used. The study took place in quiet, well lit and ventilated room at the participants institution, isolated from other workshop clients. Following initial training the participants worked individually either under multiple schedules or under concurrent-chain schedules according to a multiple-element design. When the multiple schedules condition was on, the components were either presence or absence of work support, quasi-randomly distributed. Under the concurrent-chain schedules conditions a FR-1 was used on the first link, and either one of the two work alternatives, on the second link. Throughout the study, whenever the participant presented an error, verbal, gestual prompts and model were provided. Initially verbal prompts were provided and, if necessary, by gestual, verbal plus gestual prompts, and model, in this sequence, until the target responses were emitted. In relation to the parameters analyzed, the number of errors and prompts were higher working without work support than working with it, during the teaching phase. Baseline on task performance, under multiple schedules, showed prompts lower in the work support component in relation to the no work support component. Under concurrent chain schedule, however, the percentage of prompts under work support was higher in relation to the no work support alternative. As far as time spent to complete the task, in the teaching phase, two participants finished the work activity faster in the component without support. During baseline on task performance, under multiple schedules and chain concurrent schedules, three participants finished the task faster working with the work support. The results showed a preference for the work support alternative for two participants, while the other two distributed their choices evenly between the two alternatives. With the work support, time on task was relatively lower as compared to the no work support. The number of errors by P3 was different from the other participants, who showed a much smaller number of errors evenly distributed between the experimental conditions. Working with support was preferable from the participant s point of view. Besides that, under supported work, participants finished the task faster and the number of errors was kept in a low level. The participants could choose independently of his performance in the parameters analyzed. The study brings a contribution to vocational training programs for the severely retarded and to the development of a common interface with the areas of Behavior Analysis, Special Education and Ergonomics and brings practical implications for the design of teach procedures for mentally retarded.
A habilidade de fazer boas escolhas é fundamental para o sucesso da adaptação de indivíduos em seu ambiente social e relaciona-se com importantes questões de programação de ensino e de tratamento clínico para deficientes mentais. Apesar dessa importância, pouco se sabe sobre seus efeitos em ambientes de trabalho para esses indivíduos. O presente estudo analisou o comportamento de escolha de indivíduos deficientes mentais sob duas condições de trabalho e avaliou a influência da situação de escolha e de não escolha sobre parâmetros de desempenho nessas condições. Quatro indivíduos deficientes mentais adultos aprenderam uma tarefa de trabalho com e sem arranjo instrucional. A tarefa consistia em montar capas de blocos de anotações por meio da colagem de pedaços de papel dobradura sobre papel cartão. O arranjo, desenvolvido para a tarefa de trabalho, continha dispositivos para colocação de papel, fundo de capas de bloco de anotações e cola. Seu objetivo foi prover assistência imediata, aumentar ou manter a freqüência do comportamento e prevenir erros na rotina da tarefa. Em seguida, os participantes realizaram a tarefa alternadamente, sob esquemas múltiplos de reforçamento, ou sob esquemas concorrentes com encadeamento, organizados em um delineamento experimental de múltiplos elementos. Nos esquemas múltiplos, os componentes se alternavam de forma quase randômica e diferiam com relação à presença ou ausência do arranjo instrucional. Nos esquemas concorrentes com encadeamento, o participante pôde escolher, no primeiro elo, sob esquemas de razão fixa (FR 1), a alternativa, com ou sem arranjo instrucional, com a qual trabalharia no segundo elo. O desempenho sob esquemas múltiplos, sem escolha do componente, foi comparado com o desempenho sob esquemas concorrentes com encadeamento, em que os participantes puderam escolher a alternativa com que iriam trabalhar para verificar a função da escolha sobre o desempenho nas alternativas, com e sem arranjo. Ao longo de todas as fases do estudo, à medida que o participante apresentasse erros, eram fornecidas instruções verbais, gestuais, e modelo. Inicialmente eram apresentadas instruções verbais, seguidas de gestuais e modelo, até que a resposta correta fosse emitida. Na fase de ensino, os participantes aprenderam os seis passos da tarefa e houve maior quantidade de instrução na presença do componente A, sem arranjo. Na fase de linha de base, nas tentativas com esquemas múltiplos, houve maior quantidade de instrução na presença do componente A; e nas tentativas com esquemas concorrentes com encadeamento, houve maior quantidade de instrução na alternativa com arranjo. Nessa, tanto em esquemas múltiplos como em esquemas concorrentes com encadeamento, três dos participantes concluíram a tarefa mais rapidamente quando na presença do arranjo. Na situação de escolha, dois participantes apresentaram preferência pela alternativa com arranjo, enquanto dois distribuíram suas escolhas igualmente entre as duas alternativas. Três dos quatro participantes apresentaram um número de erros bastante reduzido e relativamente bem distribuído dentre as alternativas. A alternativa com arranjo instrucional mostrou ser uma opção preferível, sob o ponto de vista do indivíduo com deficiência mental. Além disso, trabalhando na presença do arranjo, os participantes concluíram a tarefa mais rapidamente e mantiveram o número de erros em nível baixo. A escolha foi exercida, portanto, sem prejuízo de seu desempenho nos parâmetros analisados. O estudo contribui para o desenvolvimento de programas de capacitação profissional do deficiente mental severo e traz implicações práticas importantes para o planejamento de ensino para essa população.

I denna uppsats undersöks och analyseras nio Instagraminlägg på temat välmående utifrån teorin om visuell perception och visuellt berättande. Syftet är att undersöka hur företag, med Instagraminlägg på temat välmående, kan ge personer verktyg att förbättra sitt eget välmående. Frågeställningen som uppsatsen söker svar på är; Hur kan Instagraminlägg på temat välmående användas för att påverka känslor och upplevelser positivt i stunden? En kvalitativ fokusgruppsintervju används för att undersöka fyra individers upplevelser och känslor kring inläggen. Resultatet av undersökningen visar att ansiktsuttryck är ett bra medel för att få deltagarna att reflektera över sitt eget mående. När ansiktsuttrycken inte passar ihop med text och sammanhang upplevs inlägget som förvirrande även om färgerna i sig kändes lugnande eller upplyftande. Till vidare forskning hade det därför varit intressant att undersöka mer kring hur och varför ansiktsuttryck påverkar välmåendet.

Active Approaches provide chances for individual, comprehension-oriented learning and can facilitate the acquirement of general mathematical competencies. Using the example of pinboards, which were developed for different areas of the secondary level, workshop participants experience, discuss and further develop learning tasks, which can be used for free activities, for material based concept formation, for coping with heterogeneity, for intelligent exercises, as tool for the presentation of students’ work and as basis for games. The material also allows some continuous movements and can thus prepare an insightful usage of dynamic geometry programs. Central Part of the workshop is a work-sharing group work with learning tasks for grades 5 to 8. The workshop will close with a discussion of general aspects of material-based learning.

Background: Research suggests that postnatal affective disorders such as anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are associated with lower levels of maternal sensitivity. Understanding the mechanisms through which maternal affective disorders influence maternal sensitivity is important as it could lead to more tailored effective interventions to improve outcomes for women and their infants. One mechanism that is yet to be explored is the way in which mothers' process infant-related information. This thesis therefore developed a cognitive model that aimed to examine this mechanism. Aim: The aim of this thesis was to test this cognitive model of maternal sensitivity using a range of experimental, observational and questionnaire studies. The model proposed that maternal affective symptoms would be associated with maternal processing of infant-related information, which in turn would be associated with maternal sensitivity. Methods & Results: The aims were addressed through a systematic review and a study of women with (n = 23) and without (n = 47) affective symptoms and their infants (aged 2-8 months) after birth. The systematic review found that mothers with perinatal affective disorders are faster to disengage from sad infant faces and are more accurate at identifying sadness in infant faces (Article 1). To assess how mothers process infant-related information, validated pictures of infants' emotional faces were needed. Therefore, a validated set of infant emotional expressions was created and validated on student midwives and nurses and members of the general public. The images were found to have high criterion validity and good test-retest reliability (Article 2). Mothers processing of infant-related information and its relationship with maternal sensitivity was tested using a series of questionnaires, computerised and observational tasks. Results are reported in Articles 3, 4 and 5. Conclusion: Overall, the cognitive model of maternal sensitivity was only partly supported, in that maternal affective symptoms explained more of the variance of maternal sensitivity than maternal processing of infant-related information. Despite this, the work in this thesis provides a novel contribution to the literature by developing and testing a model based on previous research and by using robust measures such as eye-tracking technology and observational measures of mother-infant interaction. However, interpretation of the data is hindered due to methodological issues such as small sample sizes, homogeneous sample and demand characteristics. Therefore, more research is needed to test this model on a larger, more heterogenous sample.

AbstractFreebody explores how a patient’s class, gender, age, physical health and mental condition influenced the allocation of occupation in French and English institutions. Class was an important consideration since manual labour was considered unsuitable for the middle classes, particularly for women, despite its alleged benefits as a therapy. Whether a patient’s condition was perceived as curable or incurable made a difference to the type of occupation prescribed in England, and to whether it was prescribed in France. The reasons why curable patients at the acute stage of their illness were more likely to be prescribed occupational therapy in England, or unoccupied and treated biologically in France, are examined. In both countries, incurable patients, and those whose condition had deteriorated into chronicity, were allocated work around the hospital, provided they were physically fit, for the benefit of both institution and patient. Freebody compares the material conditions of English and French, rural and metropolitan institutions, that provided the context for patient work, and the varied approaches towards offering incentives to work.

OBJETIVOS: El objetivo de este estudio es analizar en una muestra de 679 pacientes con trastornos mentales y el consumo de sustancias existente asociado a dichas patologías. MATERIAL Y MÉTIDOS: Se realiza un análisis descriptivo retrospectivo de un año de una muestra de un total de 679 pacientes atendidos en consultas externas de Psiquiatría de la provincia de Toledo. Se describen los trastornos mentales más frecuentes y el tipo de consumo de sustancias asociado dentro de sus antecedentes personales toxicológicos. Se utilizan buscadores como PubMed o Medline para la obtención de documentación bibliográfica que apoye los datos de este trabajo. RESULTADOS: En el 47,7% de la muestra analizada hay antecedentes de consumo de sustancias, entre los que encontramos: un 77,8% de consumo de tabaco, un 4% de alcohol, un 3,4% de cannabis, un 1,2% de cocaína, un 0,3% de otras sustancias y un 13% consumen o han consumido a lo largo de su vida varias sustancias de manera simultánea. Los trastornos mentales más frecuentes asociados a consumos son: trastorno depresivo persistente, trastorno adaptativo, trastorno bipolar, esquizofrenia, trastorno depresivo mayor, trastorno depresivo recurrente, trastorno límite de la personalidad, trastorno mental no especificado y trastorno de ansiedad generalizada. CONCLUSIONES: Dentro de un número importante de pacientes con diferentes patologías mentales que acuden a las diferentes unidades de Salud Mental encontramos una característica común, el consumo de sustancias, siendo este un factor pronóstico importante a tener en cuenta con implicaciones en la práctica clínica y el abordaje terapéutico de los pacientes.

The paper is devoted to the automation of visual analytics of digital mental map representation sets. Digital mental map representations are digital drawings of some certain spaces made by humans, reflecting their spatial experience and distinctive thoughts they have about the considered spatial places. The subjectivity behind mental maps fundamentally distinguishes them from the geographical maps and makes them a very fruitful material for Digital Humanities research. To unveil the potential of this research, in the previous works we developed the Creative Maps Studio vector graphics editor to enable informants intuitively draw their mental maps. In the present work, we enrich Creative Maps Studio with ontology-driven analytical subsystem to enable in-place handling of mental map representations. The proposed subsystem provides visual tools to describe the processing pipeline of mental map representations using a data flow programming paradigm wherein each processing step is described by ontology. This approach proved its flexibility and efficiency in solving different visual analytics tasks. The implemented analytical modules allow automatically render a set of mental maps representations in the graphical form and to view statistical characteristics of individual objects from these representations. The process of data preparation and visualization is described. The suggestions are proposed on the interpretation of the result. The pros and cons of using the proposed method are discussed along with the possible directions for its further development.

Introducción y objetivos El término chemsex surge de la unión de las palabras "chems" (chemicals) y "sex". Definido como un “uso intencionado de drogas para tener relaciones sexuales por un período largo de tiempo entre hombres gais, bisexuales y otros hombres que tienen sexo con hombres (GBHSH). Es un tipo particular de consumo de sustancias con fines sexuales vinculado a la cultura sexual gay. La práctica intensiva y continuada puede tener repercusiones en la salud mental. El chemsex puede ocasionar trastornos por consumo de sustancias o tener un trastorno psiquiátrico como resultado (trastorno depresivo, trastorno psicótico...) o ambos, esto es, resultar en patología dual. El abordaje de estos casos requiere comprender la realidad de este ámbito. En relación a lo expuesto, marcamos como objetivo principal revisar la literatura actual sobre el chemsex y su relación con algunos trastornos mentales. Material y métodos Para ello hemos realizado una búsqueda bibliográfica en diferentes bases de datos para identificar los estudios más recientes y representativos. Resultados y conclusiones Los datos de los estudios revisados señalan que el consumo de drogas en general y en contexto sexual es mayor en la población de hombres GBHSH en comparación con la población heterosexual. Desde la “teoría del estrés de minoría”, estresores tales como el estigma, el prejuicio y la discriminación ejercida sobre la población GBHSH, tendrían un impacto en la salud mental. El uso de sustancias podría ser una estrategia de afrontamiento frente al estrés. Diversos estudios, la mayoría descriptivos, muestran existencia de síntomas depresivos, ansiosos y de estirpe psicótica en una proporción considerable de pacientes. Dada la inexistencia de gran cantidad de publicaciones sobre esta relación, sería ideal una mayor investigación al respecto, dadas las potenciales consecuencias nefastas y la posible elevada prevalencia de alteraciones psicopatológicas asociadas.

Introdução: Culturalmente, a função de cuidados é atribuída às mulheres, às quais costuma ser delegada atenção à saúde das pessoas e delas mesmas, organização e higiene dos espaços. Com isso, geralmente os homens não se importam com o autocuidado, esperando que as mulheres a sua volta possam cuidar deles. Quando homens são mais cuidadosos, sensíveis, limpos, frequentemente são chamados de frescos, mimados, gays e outros termos na tentativa de prejudicá-los, feri-los ou minimizá-los. E isso de fato perturba o ego masculino que está sempre sendo cobrado por virilidade, força, resistência, trabalho, violência, produção, reprodução. Talvez, essa cobrança seja um dos motivos pelos quais os homens não buscam as ações básicas em saúde. A prevenção de doenças não lhes é preocupante. Mas sim, eles buscam os serviços de urgência e emergência e os especializados porque já estão muito doentes. Isso acarreta agravos à saúde pública do Brasil. Os homens possuem a menor expectativa de vida no país, e várias demandas de doenças, como o suicídio, poderiam ser evitadas se a saúde dos diversos tipos de homens fosse mais trabalhada. Objetivo: O objetivo deste trabalho é compreender como é abordada a saúde mental no contexto das masculinidades. Material e Métodos: Para tanto, realizou-se uma revisão sistemática de literatura na Scielo, no Google Acadêmico e na Capes por meio dos descritores “saúde mental”, “masculinidades”, “gênero” e “homens” com as funções “AND” e “OR”, sendo o critério de inclusão artigos que apresentassem esses termos em seus resumos. Por outro lado, os artigos encontrados com resumos sem esses termos foram desconsideradas para esta análise. Resultados: Os resultados encontrados demonstram escassez de pesquisas voltadas à saúde mental no contexto das masculinidades. Ficou nítido que a maioria dos artigos analisados tratava da saúde masculina numa perspectiva binária de gênero, o que negligencia as pessoas que se autodeclaram homens e pertencentes à população LGBTQIAP+. Conclusão: Concluiu-se que é preciso considerar as diversas formas de ser homem no fazer científico. Ainda são incipientes os dados sobre esse tema e são muitos os homens que apresentam sofrimentos psíquicos devido às exigências sociais, o que agrava a saúde pública do país.

Introducción: Las redes sociales (RRSS) están omnipresentes en nuestra sociedad y se han convertido en una herramienta fundamental de relación social y difusión de información en las últimas décadas. La nueva era digital ha supuesto profundos cambios de interacción entre los usuarios, especialmente entre los más jóvenes. En España, 38 millones de usuarios utilizan redes sociales habitualmente. Entre la población de 14 a 24 años, un 70% usa algún tipo de red social y le dedica una media de 1,42 horas diarias. Paralelamente, se ha detectado un aumento en la demanda de consultas y atención hospitalaria en salud mental en este grupo de población. Los principales trastornos detectados son depresión, ansiedad, baja autoestima, alteraciones del sueño e ideación suicida. Objetivos: determinar el impacto en salud mental que supone la adicción a redes sociales en población adolescente y los determinantes de uso que condicionan la aparición de trastornos mentales. Material y métodos. Realización de búsqueda bibliográfica en bases de datos, seleccionando artículos de los últimos diez años utilizando palabras clave: “mental health”, “young people” y “social network”. Resultados y conclusiones. La revisión concluye que el uso de redes sociales en población adolescente se correlaciona, en un determinado grupo, con índices más altos de depresión, ansiedad, problemas de autoimagen y riesgo de suicidio así como problemas de disfunción cognitiva y alteraciones del sueño. Sin embargo, estos resultados deben ser interpretados con cautela al intentar identificar cuáles son las condiciones de uso y factores que predisponen al desarrollo de estos trastornos mentales. Dada la presencia cada vez mayor del mundo digital en las próximas generaciones resulta crucial evaluar el bienestar con relación al uso de redes sociales e implementar estrategias que fomenten un manejo responsable de las mismas.

The Electronic educational resource (hereinafter referred to as EER) “Basic aspects of narcology” is designed for 36 training hours. This distance learning course aims to develop communicative competence, prepare for solving standard problems of professional activity using information resources, medical and biological terminology, and is also aimed at optimizing the educational process at the university, creating conditions for achieving the required level of modern education and comprehensive development of the personality of students . The EER was developed in accordance with the Federal State Educational Standard of Higher Education. Intended for medical school students as a material that allows future doctors to become more in-depth acquainted with the basic aspects of narcology, as well as for psychiatrists, psychiatrists-narcologists, and doctors of other specialties who, due to the specifics of their work, systematically interact with patients with drug addiction pathology. The EER was developed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor, highly qualified psychiatrist-narcologist with 37 years of experience in the specialty of psychiatry-narcology. The structure of the EER is classic and includes an abstract, glossary, instructions for working with the course, brief information about the authors, a methodological block, 4 lectures in presentation format and video lectures on the following topics: “Ethanol from the birth of modern civilization to the creation of new stars”, “Alcoholism”, “General issues of addiction” and “Classification of substances and drugs that cause addiction.” To control the studied material, clinical tasks and final testing on the topic being studied are used. To receive feedback from cadets and students, there is a feedback form. A student who has mastered the program is able to possess professional competencies, including the ability to: professionally navigate issues of terminology and definitions related to the subject of the educational material; master the amount of knowledge on the mechanisms of the effects of psychoactive substances on the human body; correctly navigate the issues of modern classification of surfactants; correctly diagnose pathological conditions associated with chronic ethanol intoxication; apply distance educational technologies (DET) in professional activities; use automated information systems and knowledge bases in professional activities.

The paper the approaches to the intensification of the students’ brainwork by means of computer visualization of study material have been disclosed. In general, the content of students’ brainwork has been presented as a type of activity providing the cognitive process, mastering the techniques and ways of thinking, developing the capabilities and abilities of the individual, the product of which is a certain form of information, as a result of the brainwork the outlook of the subject of work is enriched. It is shown the visualization is the process of presenting data in the form of an image with the aim of maximum ease of understanding; the giving process of visual form to any mental object. In the paper the content, techniques, methods and software for creating visualization tools for study material has exposed. The essence and computer tools for creating such types of visualization of educational material like mind maps, supporting notes and infographics have been illustrated; they have been concretized from the point of view of application in the course of studying the mathematical sciences. It is proved the use of visualization tools for study materials helps to increase the intensity and effectiveness of students’ brainwork. Based on the results of an empirical study, it has been concluded the visualization of study materials contributes to the formation of students’ key intellectual competencies and forming their brainwork culture.

Empirical measurements of the spatial distribution, particle-size distribution, mass, morphology, and energetic composition of particles from low-order (LO) detonations are critical to accurately characterizing environ-mental impacts on military training ranges. This study demonstrated a method of generating and characterizing LO-detonation particles, previously applied to insensitive munitions, to 81 mm mortar rounds containing the conventional explosive formulation Composition B. The three sampled rounds had estimated detonation efficiencies ranging from 64% to 82% as measured by sampled residual energetic material. For all sampled rounds, energetic deposition rates were highest closer to the point of detonation; however, the mass per radial meter varied. The majority of particles (>60%), by mass, were <2 mm in size. However, the spatial distribution of the <2 mm particles from the point of detonation varied be-tween the three sampled rounds. In addition to the particle-size-distribution results, several method performance observations were made, including command-detonation configurations, sampling quality control, particle-shape influence on laser-diffraction particle-size analysis (LD-PSA), and energetic purity trends. Overall, this study demonstrated the successful characterization of Composition B LO-detonation particles from command detonation through combined analysis by LD-PSA and sieving.

Health constitutes a fundamental aspect of our well-being. It is also a key factor in determining our contribution to market and non-market output. Health inequality refers to the unequal realization of health outcomes between different groups in the population. Systematic disparities in health outcomes and in access to health resources not only undermine basic principles of fairness and social justice but also contributes towards perpetuating poverty and disadvantage. In this chapter, we start by presenting evidence on how the burden of disease in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) has changed during the last 30 years. Consistent with the fall in fertility and population aging, the region has shifted from a burden of disease dominated by maternal, neonatal, and communicable disease in the 1990s to one dominated by cardiovascular disease, cancers, diabetes, and increasingly by mental health disorders. The poorest in the region are burdened by worst access to maternal care and higher levels of infant mortality and stunting. Despite being knowledgeable about contraceptive methods, young women in Latin America and the Caribbean have very high levels of teenage pregnancy with a steep socio-economic gradient. Noncommunicable diseases also affect the poor disproportionately in many countries. Finally, mental health is a growing source of lost days of healthy living among women and the poor. Overall, our results highlight that despite the epidemiological transition which is underway, socio-economic health disparities in the LAC region are still more important on early childhood and teenagerhood than in adulthood, at least as it pertains to the outcomes analyzed in this chapter. At the same time, we show that while socio-economic inequalities in child health are smaller in the richest countries, the contrary happens with inequalities in some adult outcomes.

Background. Untreated maternal mental health disorders can have devastating sequelae for the mother and child. For women who are currently or planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding, a critical question is whether the benefits of treating psychiatric illness with pharmacologic interventions outweigh the harms for mother and child. Methods. We conducted a systematic review to assess the benefits and harms of pharmacologic interventions compared with placebo, no treatment, or other pharmacologic interventions for pregnant and postpartum women with mental health disorders. We searched four databases and other sources for evidence available from inception through June 5, 2020 and surveilled the literature through March 2, 2021; dually screened the results; and analyzed eligible studies. We included studies of pregnant, postpartum, or reproductive-age women with a new or preexisting diagnosis of a mental health disorder treated with pharmacotherapy; we excluded psychotherapy. Eligible comparators included women with the disorder but no pharmacotherapy or women who discontinued the pharmacotherapy before pregnancy. Results. A total of 164 studies (168 articles) met eligibility criteria. Brexanolone for depression onset in the third trimester or in the postpartum period probably improves depressive symptoms at 30 days (least square mean difference in the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression, -2.6; p=0.02; N=209) when compared with placebo. Sertraline for postpartum depression may improve response (calculated relative risk [RR], 2.24; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.95 to 5.24; N=36), remission (calculated RR, 2.51; 95% CI, 0.94 to 6.70; N=36), and depressive symptoms (p-values ranging from 0.01 to 0.05) when compared with placebo. Discontinuing use of mood stabilizers during pregnancy may increase recurrence (adjusted hazard ratio [AHR], 2.2; 95% CI, 1.2 to 4.2; N=89) and reduce time to recurrence of mood disorders (2 vs. 28 weeks, AHR, 12.1; 95% CI, 1.6 to 91; N=26) for bipolar disorder when compared with continued use. Brexanolone for depression onset in the third trimester or in the postpartum period may increase the risk of sedation or somnolence, leading to dose interruption or reduction when compared with placebo (5% vs. 0%). More than 95 percent of studies reporting on harms were observational in design and unable to fully account for confounding. These studies suggested some associations between benzodiazepine exposure before conception and ectopic pregnancy; between specific antidepressants during pregnancy and adverse maternal outcomes such as postpartum hemorrhage, preeclampsia, and spontaneous abortion, and child outcomes such as respiratory issues, low Apgar scores, persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn, depression in children, and autism spectrum disorder; between quetiapine or olanzapine and gestational diabetes; and between benzodiazepine and neonatal intensive care admissions. Causality cannot be inferred from these studies. We found insufficient evidence on benefits and harms from comparative effectiveness studies, with one exception: one study suggested a higher risk of overall congenital anomalies (adjusted RR [ARR], 1.85; 95% CI, 1.23 to 2.78; N=2,608) and cardiac anomalies (ARR, 2.25; 95% CI, 1.17 to 4.34; N=2,608) for lithium compared with lamotrigine during first- trimester exposure. Conclusions. Few studies have been conducted in pregnant and postpartum women on the benefits of pharmacotherapy; many studies report on harms but are of low quality. The limited evidence available is consistent with some benefit, and some studies suggested increased adverse events. However, because these studies could not rule out underlying disease severity as the cause of the association, the causal link between the exposure and adverse events is unclear. Patients and clinicians need to make an informed, collaborative decision on treatment choices.
