Повний текст джерелаThe purpose of this pilot protocol was to examine the process of instillation of a bladder cancer optical imaging agent for blue light cystoscopy (BLC) procedures in a preoperative area in Bronx, NY with registered nurses (RNs). The RNs followed a process flowchart and completed a checklist.
A retrospective review was completed by the Assistant Director of Research for Urology and the Study Principal Investigator on 20 charts with four time stamps. The time stamps included the “Scheduled Time of Surgery”, “In Pre Procedure”, “Medication Administration Record (MAR)”, and “In Room”. The prospective review was completed on 10 BLC procedures by the preoperative RNs. In addition to the time stamps, there were three other questions descriptively examined on consent completion, an instill catheter order, and catheter placement at the bedside.
The Wilcoxon Test Statistic was utilized to determine whether there was a significant difference between prospective and retrospective timeframes upon implementation of a standardized protocol for a preoperative procedure. The Chi-square test was performed to determine whether there was a significant difference between retrospective and prospective information on “MAR” documentation.
There is no standard protocol for the BLC procedure at this hospital. Inconsistent processes with instillation of the optical imaging agent can result in negative outcomes, delays, and unsafe environments. This pilot protocol for the BLC procedure is important to develop a standard protocol for all preoperative areas that utilize this technology across the United States.

Повний текст джерелаAbstract: Prostate cancer is most often diagnosed by a prostate biopsy led by a transrectal ultrasound. Magnetic resonance tomography can also be used to find prostate cancer, and a diagnosis can then be made from the images. More commonly MRI is used as a basis for a biopsy done with TRUS where the MRI is used to localise suspected pathological areas in the prostate and in this way a suitable biopsy spot is chosen. Purpose: To examine the sensitivity of the MRI-camera for prostate cancer, both for imaging alone and for MRI-led biopsy. Method: A systematic literature review was performed where 12 articles were examined and compiled into a result presented as a chart. Result: Shows a high sensitivity with MRI for finding both unsignificant and significant prostate cancer. Conclusion: The results from this study shows that MRI has a high sensitivity for prostate cancer and can with great accuracy discover pathological areas in the prostate. The MRI images can advantageously be used as an effective diagnosing tool for general and significant prostate cancer, a specially combined with transrectal ultrasound.

Повний текст джерелаBackground: Magnetic resonance imaging imply great diagnostical and medical opportunities, but entails often a discomfort for the patient, due to several different reasons. The patients’ experiences regarding the magnetic resonance imaging examination are important for the feeling of safeness and establish a contact with the x-ray nurse. Aim: The literature study’s aim was to illustrate the experiences of patients regarding examination with magnetic resonance imaging. Method: A literature study with results from eight qualitative studies. Articles that were reviewed with quality and were also analyzed. Searches have been carried out in PubMed and CINAHL. Result: From the analysis, three categories were formed and also eight subcategories. The categories were: To lie in an MRI-scan, to undertake the examination procedure and also feelings. Patients experiences some kind of pain and discomfort during the MRI-scan. Some patients experience some negative feelings during the examination, whereas others do not experience that. Conclusion: Communication, safeness and adaptation of the information are crucial parts for the experiences for the patients, regarding an examination within a magnetic resonance imaging, and the possibilities to reduce the negative feelings that occur during this kind of examination. Повний текст джерелаBackground:In Sweden, all persons are entitled to equal health care. In order for the radiographer to carry out their work, good communication between the radiographer and the patient is required. Communication with both verbal expressions and also body language which is necessary when working in health care. Through judgment, knowledge and accuracy, the radiographer must be able to provide adequate information regarding the examination or treatment.The information should be adapted according to the patient's ability and vital condition to accommodate this. Purpose: The purpose of the thesis was to summarize factors that may affect communication between the radiographer and the patient.Method: In order to achieve this, it was decided to make a qualitative, general literature study using the PubMed and Cinahl databases. A total of 10 articles were selected for the thesis. Results: The results were summarized in 7 different factors; professionalism, language, information, high workload, time, illness and anxiety/fear. All factors could improve communication, but some parts could also make it difficult. Conclusion: More knowledge and awareness of communication skills is necessary for the radiographer, as well as collaboration with colleagues to encouraging individualized communication. Summarizing these factors can help us as radiographer in our work on communicating to the patient in different situations.
