This study aimed to describe the established harmony between religion and culture within the traditional Gayo marriage custom. In addition, it determined whether the blending[SM1] of religion and culture in traditional Gayo marriages adheres to fiqh munākahat. This study was descriptive and qualitative field research using the sociological juridical approach. Interviews and documentation were used as data collection methods. Meanwhile, to identify informants, researchers employed a purposive sampling technique. The important finding of this study was that in traditional Gayo marriages, religion and culture are harmonized appropriately and without coercion. The acculturation of fiqh munākahat evidences harmonization: ta'aruf (introduction), khitbah (proposal), marriage advice, discussions, i'lanu nikah (marriage announcement), and hospitality. The acculturation of the fiqh munākahat concept is found in the procession of the risik kono (introduction of the bride and groom's family), the munginte (proposal), the beguru (giving advice), the betelah (discussion), the segenap and begenap (discussion and family), the mah bai (accompanying the groom) and mah beru (accompanying the bride), mah kero opat ingi (carrying rice for four days) and tanag kul (a visit to the bride's house). Moreover, only two of the five Gayonese marriage customs adhere to the fiqh munākahat: ango/juelen (patrilineal) and kuso now (to and fro) marriages. In contrast, engagement marriages (matrilineal), Naik (eloping) and mah tabak (marriage submission) are not in line with fiqh munākahat.

A marriage that involves one or both partners before the woman is physically, physiologically, and psychologically prepared to support the responsibilities of marriage and parenthood is referred to as an underage marriage. Early marriage is an underage marriage whose aim preparation is not said to be maximal in terms of physical preparation, mental preparation, as well as material preparation, given the general age limit for marrying at a legal age. This article will delve more into the Office of Religious Affairs' contribution to reducing underage weddings. The aim of this essay is to provide writers and readers with a clearer understanding of the KUA's function in reducing the number of underage marriages in the Medan Barat District. This article employs a descriptive analysis strategy along with a qualitative research methodology. The Office of Religious Affairs (KUA), in the author's opinion, is crucial in preventing and reducing the number of underage marriages in the Medan Barat District. The Office of Religious Affairs works to prevent underage marriages in the West Medan District by, among other things, giving advice and counseling to prospective brides before their weddings. The West Medan District's junior high school pupils were adversely affected by early marriage, according to KUA of the West Medan Sub-District, which also conducted outreach on the laws governing underage marriage. Underage marriage is a marriage carried out by a man or woman whose age has not reached theage of marriage. The marriage age is regulated in Article 7 point 1 of Law No. 16 of 2019 concerning amendments to Law no. 1 of 1974 concerning marriage. It is stated that marriage is only permitted if a man and a woman have reached the age of 19 years. Determining the minimum age of marriage is very necessary to create benefit and harmony in the family, in which marriage is a legal event that will change the position, rights, and obligations of a person. This researchused the empirical juridical method using primary and secondary data. This study analyzed the effect of underage marriage on family harmony and aimed at minimizing underage marriage. The results obtained that underage marriage gives a high impact on family harmony due to the unstable emotions, family economic factors, the unreadiness to run the family and these lead to divorce. Meanwhile, the efforts administered to minimize underage marriages were massive data collection, providing advice, providing legal counseling, the obligation to attend pre-marital education, strict marriage registration, and administration, as wellthe suspension of marriage certificates.

SummaryConsanguineous marriage is traditional and respected in most communities of North Africa, the Middle East and West Asia, including Bahrain, with intra-familial unions accounting for 20–50+% of all marriages. Significant secular changes in consanguinity rates have been reported in recent decades in different populations. Among parents of 14,237 newborns in Bahrain in 2008–2009, the total consanguinity and first cousin marriage rates over a period of four months in 2008 were 10.9% and 6.9% respectively, while during all of 2009 the rates were 11.4% and 6.8% respectively. The study confirms that over a ten-year period first cousin marriage rates in Bahrain have declined from 24% to nearly 7%. Although advice against cousin marriages was not attempted at any stage in the comprehensive community genetics programmes in Bahrain, increasing the literacy of the public and of the health care providers on prevention strategies for genetic diseases could have contributed to this decline in consanguinity rate in Bahrain.

This research is entitled "Marriage in the Perspective of Islam and Parmalim". Marriage in Islam and Parmalim there are differences and similarities namely; The first is about conditions, while the same conditions are the presence of a bride and groom. Secondly regarding the marriage contract, in Islam the marriage contract is called the ijab qabul, while in the Parmalim religion it is known as the blessing. The third is regarding the dowry, which in Islam can be in the form of money, a ring, a set of prayer tools, the holy Koran, other items or recitations of the holy verses of the Koran, while in the Parmalim religion it can also be in the form of goods, money or rings, which are handed over at the time of the marriage contract. The fourth equation is witnesses from both sides of the bridegroom and bride. Fifth, regarding pre-marital, namely provision before marriage, in Islam it is known as rapak while in Parmalim religion it is known as counseling or teaching which teaches about advice before marriage. The type of research used by researchers is a type of library research. Based on this research, it is interesting to get some interesting findings, namely; knowing how the correlation of marriage in Islam and Parmalim, there are similarities regarding Islamic and Parmalim religious marriages, namely: First regarding the conditions, the same condition is that there is a bride and groom. Secondly regarding the marriage contract, in Islam the marriage contract is called the ijab qabul, while in the Parmalim religion it is known as the blessing. The third is regarding the dowry, which in Islam can be in the form of money, a ring, a prayer kit, the holy Qur'an, other items or recitation of the holy verses of the Koran, while in the Parmalim religion it can also be in the form of goods, money or the ring, which is handed over at the time of the marriage ceremony in Islam is known as rapak while in Parmalim religion it is known as guidance counseling or teaching which teaches about advice before marriage.

The current study aims at contrasting the notion of marriage in the nineteenth American literature with that of the pre-Islamic Arabic literature. To conduct the study, the marriage advice given by the mother (Marmee) in Alcott's Little Women will be compared with Umama Bint Al-Harith's in the pre-Islamic era to see how women in both literatures view marriage and the status of womanhood in their own cultures. A close reading contrastive analysis will be implemented on both pieces of advice to see how the culture influences the mothers' notion of marriage in both texts. The study concludes that although the notion of marriage is similar in both literatures, it is different due to the cultural effect on women's perception of their status in their cultures of their relationship with men.

IntroductionSince the Covid-19 outbreak, underage marriages have become increasingly widespread with all its impact to the society. There are very limited studies on its impact from social and economic aspect, especially among Muslim society in Indonesia.ObjectivesThe purpose of this study was to analyse the social and economic impacts of increasing underage marriage during the Covid-19 pandemic. By doing so, the study also aims to provide solution to solve the impacts for the affected communities.MethodThis study uses a qualitative method with a sociological approach that focuses on experiences and socio-cultural phenomena that occur in the midst of society.ResultsThere are several social impacts that occur as a result of early marriage, conflict in the family, regret and heavy pressure, loss of opportunity to continue education, not being able to socialize, domestic violence, divorce. The economic impacts that occur due to early marriage, among others, are limited opportunities to get work opportunities, unable to bear the family's economic burden, structural poverty.ImplicationsEfforts were made to reduce the number of early marriages, among others, holding meetings several times a month, formally coordinating community leaders, village officials, and KUA, through outreach programs to Majlis Taklim, marriage advice, through marriage sermons, coordinating with sub-districts, youth activities related to early marriage.Originality/NoveltyThe findings of this study contribute to efforts to overcome social and economic problems among Muslim society impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the strategic steps of the Banyuanyar District KUA to the community so that early marriage can be prevented by providing prevention efforts either through meetings with the community, especially women who have teenage children, or meetings or socialization to schools so that students understand early marriage. This study is a field study and uses a qualitative approach, and is analyzed descriptively. Data collection obtained directly based on the results of observations and interviews with sources at the location of a case or event being studied which was carried out directly by the researcher. The location of this research was carried out at the Banyuanyar District KUA office, Probolinggo Regency. The results of the study at the Banyuanyar District KUA are strategic steps in an effort to minimize or prevent early marriage which is carried out by providing a letter of rejection of early marriage. The Banyuanyar District KUA provides advice to prospective brides and grooms who are still underage so that there is no increase in early marriage. In implementing it, the KUA of Banyuanyar District provides direct socialization to teenagers in the form of character and mental development and training in order to reduce the high number of early marriages and additional funds are needed from the local government so that there is socialization of early marriage prevention either through the media or meetings in each region or area so that it can reduce or even suppress the number of early marriages. Marriage is identical with happiness, every couple who goes through marriage hopes that their marriage will go well. To achieve this requires readiness, both in terms of thinking and financial maturity. A good age according to experts, a person to get married is 25 years for men and 21 years for women. But unfortunately many in the marriage community occur at a very young age, which we often call early marriage. . Based on the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) the number of child marriages (18 years and under) in Indonesia is increasing. Early marriages occur usually not based on mature considerations, but are more dominated by personal needs, family economic factors, educational factors, hereditary adat factors, and mental factors of adolescents. Persuasive communication is one of the effective communication methods to influence someone in this case persuasive communication with video media is expected to be able to influence the public to suppress underage marriages. Data collection methods in this case use the Design Thingking method. the design of public service video advertisements about the risk of early marriage in West Lombok is Soft Sell, namely the concept of conveying the contents of messages indirectly to the intended target audience, and also having a comedy or comedy genre concept in it. The concepts used to influence the audience include the choice of color, font and also every scene in the video. For the color itself the authors use bright colors, cheerful and pleasant, also the selection of fonts that look relaxed and light. so this public service ad is easy to remember and influences the target audience following the advice in the campaign video. Marriage is a matter advocated by religion. This is because marriage is a encouraging behavior for the realization of Maqashid al-Shariah, precisely Hifdz al-Nasl (keeping the offspring). But the reality is there to be worse when it turns out the marriage ushers humans on conditions that are not better and even worse. The facts on the ground are that many young mothers die after childbirth due to maturation factors of the sexual organs and immature labor, and other social anomalies. Whereas the idealism of marriage is accompanying children and grandchildren to prosper. In psychology studies mentioned that marriages are built not on the basis of emotional maturity susceptible to problems. This fact provides a logical consequence, that the marriage proposal for every youth does not apply to everyone. Married advice is only for young people who have psychological maturity. This is called takhsish bi al-'aqli bi thariqi al-musnahadah. By using this takhsis analysis it can be taken to understand that the advisable youth (الشباب ) married on the content of the hadith is only specific to the adult youth of 25 years. The conclusions of this study are: 1) The meaning of "al-Shabab" in the hadith of marriage recommendation is a certain young man aged 25 years. 2) The category "Istitha'ah" in marriage based on the hadith of marriage recommendation is the ability of marriage financing and psychological maturity.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze advice about marriage written in England during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The first chapter focuses on marital counsel contained in letters, the second on advice offered by Protestant clergymen, and the third on various kinds of popular literature which discussed marriage and women. The contents of the works are described, as is the historical and literary context in which they were written. Although the form, purpose, and significance of the marital counsel varies, the advice itself is remarkably consistent. The central concern of the authors is how a man can select a good wife and how the woman should comport herself after marriage; only the works written by clerics describe the husband's marital responsibilities to any significant extent. The implication is that a successful marriage would result if the man chose his wife wisely and if, once chosen, the woman conformed to his and society's expectations. However, advice tells us only what people were saying, not what they were doing; it is prescriptive, not descriptive. Moreover, when examining works which dealt with wedlock, one becomes aware of the essentially literary nature of much of the counsel—many authors simply repeated or expanded on clichés. Their words do not provide us with insight into their own thoughts or matrimonial relations, but inform us as to the accepted, conventional mode of discussing marriage during this period.

The purpose of this study was to determine the significance between advice, marital expectations, and marital satisfaction. This study also explored the sources couples use to gather information, or rather where they receive premarital advice, and if it was helpful. Included in this study were husbands (n = 56) and wives (n = 56) who had been married less than one year, to classify them as newlyweds. The relationship between sources of information and expectations was found to be highly significant for variables related to family of origin. It was also found that a high percentage of couples gather information from informal sources rather than from more formal methods such as premarital education classes and premarital therapy. Expectations were found to be moderately to highly significant determinants of marital satisfaction.

AbstractThis chapter delves into the dynamics of marital choices in contemporary China. The chapter presents contrasting responses between men and women regarding parental influence. While men often assert independence, women frequently seek parental advice in their marital decisions. Notably, several women employ strategic approaches to circumvent parental disagreement, reflecting a delicate balance between individual autonomy and familial harmony. The analysis unveils a complex interplay of societal norms and aspirations, indicating that, despite legal emphasis on free choice, familial considerations continue to shape marital decisions.Additionally, the chapter explores social homogamy and hypergamy trends, revealing gendered patterns in the importance placed on education, income, and family background in partner selection.Furthermore, the findings shed light on a growing form of intimacy in post-collectivist China: cohabitation before marriage. Encountering social resistance, particularly from older generations, a new concept surfaced: “trial marriage” (shihun). This strategic term emerged among young adults seeking to legitimize living together before formalizing the union. It bridges the gap between societal norms and evolving practices.The findings reveal a complex interplay between societal expectations, individual choices, and the enduring influence of Confucian values in shaping attitudes towards cohabitation and marriage in contemporary China.

AbstractIn this chapter, we examine the intersections of positive psychology (PP) and religiousness/spirituality (R/S) in close relationships. Specifically, within Mahoney’s (J Marriage Fam 72:805–827, 2010) relational spirituality framework, we focus on the maintenance stage of healthy relationships and explore helpful roles that R/S can play for diverse types of couples and families. We briefly summarize extensive evidence that global markers of R/S (e.g., religious service attendance) are associated with relational well-being. We also highlight that global markers of R/S confound relatively commonplace positive religious/spiritual processes with less common but potentially toxic manifestations of R/S. We then delve into four specific religious/spiritual strengths that are empirically tied to better relational functioning: sanctification, spiritual intimacy, prayer for partner, and positive religious/spiritual coping. Next, we offer guidelines consistent with available scientific research that religious leaders, chaplains, couple and family educators, and psychotherapists might consider when working in community or clinical settings. Finally, we suggest ways to advance science and practice on the roles of R/S, for better and worse, within intimate and family relationships.

AbstractApproaches to gendered violence are generally based on a rights approach, encouraging women to seek help from the criminal justice system and services that might support them. But a victim’s rights approach to sexual violence and consent is only effective if women see those rights mirrored back at them in the help and protections they seek. Drawing on data from 19 semi-structured interviews with refugee and migrant antiviolence advocates in Australia, this chapter uses Sally Merry’s (Merry, Human Rights Quarterly 25:343–381, 2003) concept of a ‘rights consciousness’ to explore the tensions women might experience when problems related to gender are presented as a legal issue. Highlighting the tensions refugee and migrant women might face between taking on a rights defined self, and a self tied to family, kin and community, the findings explore three themes: “Marriage is Consent”, “Loyalty to Men”, and “Experiences with Justice”. Taken together, these findings advance the need to consider sexual violence and consent not just in individualistic legal terms, but as an issue of social justice that considers broader, intersecting inequalities. Rather than encouraging women to take up their rights, efforts should focus on how to ensure a rights approach is affirmed in responses to sexual violence and consent.

In this paper we argue that online forums are a valuable resource for teaching and learning specific analytical skills required for empathetic understanding, especially for students in the social professions - such as sociology, social work, psychology, etc. Empathy refers to the capacity of understanding the situation of another person - that is, understanding his or her definition of the situation and the symbolic universe in which elements of the situation become meaningful and shape actions. This capacity is cultivated through daily social interaction, and it can also be trained in educational settings. Empathy can be improved through analytical skills, consisting in the capacity to identify core symbolic elements of a persons' situation and then to reconstruct her perspective. A key resource for cultivating the analytical skills required for empathetic understanding consists in the diversity of perspectives of multiple persons engaged in interaction on a common topic. Online forums for personal advice, such as Yahoo! Answers, offer this precious learning resource: they combine a strong diversity of perspectives with benefits of short, easy-to-read texts. Online forums present three additional learning advantages. As opposed to live interaction, which unfolds at a high speed, making conversationalists' moves invisible to an untrained eye, written discourses can be examined in detail, at one's own pace, thus being an excellent didactic material. Second, when posting on online forums, individuals often attempt to construct intelligible stories. Last, most discussion in forums have an adversarial construction, facilitating the observation of their rhetorical construction. In this paper we present a method for engaging students in online forums for personal advice with a structured learning agenda, in order to cultivate their abilities to make sense of the specific perspective of the person asking for advice, in light of variability in others' answers. Students learn to observe discursive alternatives in the construction of a problematic situation - such as marriage crises, health conditions, parental dilemmas. Students are also encouraged to formulate empathetic answers to persons who are asking for advice, and to reflect on the work of discursive articulation of multiple subjective worlds. We conclude by observing that online forums can be conceptualized as massive multiplayer online advice games - engaging anonymous participants in a communicative situation with specific stakes which are influenced both by the technological constitution of the forum (for example, rules for gaining higher status as a forum member) and by the anonymized, mediated, still highly personal social interaction.

Turbine cooling is a battle between the desire for greater hot section component life and the techno-economic demands of the marketplace. Surprisingly little separates the haves from the have nots. The evolution of turbine cooling is loosely analogous to that of the Darwinian theory of evolution for animals, starting from highly simplistic forms and progressing to increasingly more complex designs having greater capabilities. Yet even with the several generations of design advances, limitations are becoming apparent as complexity sometimes leads to less robust outcomes in operation. Furthermore, the changing environment for operation and servicing of cooled components, both the natural and the imposed environments, are resulting in new failure modes, higher sensitivities, and more variability in life. The present paper treats the evolution of turbine cooling in three broad aspects including the background development, the current state-of-the-art, and the prospects for the future. Unlike the Darwinian theory of evolution however, it is not feasible to implement thousands of small incremental design changes, random or not, to determine the fittest for survival and advancement. Instead, innovation and experience are utilized to direct the evolution. Over the last approximately 50 years, advances have led to an overall increase in component cooling effectiveness from 0.1 to 0.7. Innovation and invention aside, the performance of the engine has always dictated which technologies advance and which do not. Cooling technologies have been aided by complimentary and substantial advancements in materials and manufacturing. The state-of-the-art now contains dozens of internal component cooling methods with their many variations, yet still relies mainly on only a handful of basic film cooling forms that have been known for 40 years. Even so, large decreases in coolant usage, up to 50%, have been realized over time in the face of increasing turbine firing temperatures. The primary areas of greatest impact for the future of turbine cooling are discussed, these being new engine operating environments, component and systems integration effects, revolutionary turbine cooling, revolutionary manufacturing, and the quantification of unknowns. One key will be the marriage of design and manufacturing to bring about the concurrent use of engineered micro cooling or transpiration, with the ability of additive manufacturing. If successful, this combination could see a further 50% reduction in coolant usage for turbines. The other key element concerns the quantification of unknowns, which directly impacts validation and verification of current state-of-the-art and future turbine cooling. Addressing the entire scope of the challenges will require future turbine cooling to be of robust simplicity and stability, with freeform design, much as observed in the “designs” of nature.

The focus of this paper is on the complementary mechanisms and interventions likely to increase the effectiveness and impact of conditional cash transfer (CCT) schemes in South Asia that aim to reduce female infanticide and child marriage and promote girls’ education. The literature on the institutional aspects of these particular schemes is limited, but from this and from the wider literature on CCT programmes in similar contexts, the following institutional mechanisms are likely to enhance success: a strong information and communication strategy that enhances programme reach and coverage and ensures stakeholder awareness; advance agreements with financial institutions; a simple and flexible registration process; appropriate use of technology to strengthen access, disbursement, and oversight; adequate implementation capacity to support processes of outreach, enrolment, and monitoring; monitoring and accountability mechanisms embedded in programme design; coordination mechanisms across government across social protection schemes; an effective management information system; and the provision of quality services in the sectors for which conditions are required. There is a very limited body of evidence that explores these institutional issues as they apply to the specific CCT programmes that are the focus of this report, however, there is more available evidence of the potential impact of ‘cash-plus’ programmes, which complement the transfers with other interventions designed to enhance their results or address the structural barriers to well-being

Today’s rising generation of 1.3 billion adolescents are tomorrow’s future. Yet, adolescent girls fare worse than boys in many ways, including education and experiences with violence. Furthermore, the implications of key experiences for girls in adolescence—school dropout, early marriage, motherhood, sexual and gender-based violence—are irreversible. The GIRL Center Roadmap to 2030 outlines the strategy of the Population Council’s GIRL Center—generating and communicating evidence, convening experts, and nurturing talent. Undertaking a girl-centered, evidence-driven, intersectional, and innovative approach that is grounded in low- and middle-income countries, the GIRL Center focuses on: intergenerational poverty and gender inequity; adolescents and the digital space; adolescents in humanitarian settings; adolescent sexual and reproductive health; adolescent economic empowerment; and adolescents and climate. These focus areas aim to advance the GIRL Center’s vision of a gender-equitable world where girls and boys make a healthy and safe transition into adulthood and reach their full potential.
