The development of the national economy and its components in modern conditions is increasingly dependent on technological shifts based on innovation. The ability to form and effectively use potential is becoming a decisive factor in enhancing the competitiveness and development of enterprises. The development of managerial capacity will allow enterprises to adapt quickly to new environmental conditions and make effective management decisions. With the transformation of the economic system towards social orientation, there is a transition from outdated forms of enterprise potential management to a new vision of the quality of management potential. Basic approaches to assessing the quality of management potential in its innovative development were formed. The main features of the innovative development of managerial potential were identified. The main features of the development of innovative management potential were determined. A basic structure for management potential innovative development measures was proposed, which regulates that a company’s policy in the field of improving the efficiency of management capacity is a subordinate element of the general strategy of an enterprise, but at the same time it is necessary to monitor the balance between economic performance and social justice.

Promotion of innovations on the market is hampered in Ukraine by the lack of methodological approaches for analyzing the efficiency of innovative projects. The lack of appropriate methodology leads companies to refuse to innovate because of the uncertainty of final economic outcomes. The introduction of project based methods for innovation activity management allows, on the one hand, to reconcile strategic and operational objectives within the innovation process, innovation activity and general financial and economic activity of the enterprise, and on the other hand, to implement cognitive approaches to organization of company’s innovation management.The research argues the possibilities of applying the canonical correlation method for structuring the causal links between the determined components of a company innovative capability, such as innovation potential, innovative business opportunities and system margin. As these components may be further assessed by quantitative indices, the method of regression analysis is also used to develop analytical tools for innovation management, which allow to reveal the interrelated impact of expenses on the results of innovation activity. The paper analyzes changes in a company innovative capability that can be provoked by increased material, depreciation, labor and information costs and discusses directions of interrelated changes. Practical testing of submitted proposals is realized based on the Ukrainian companies’ statements for 2012–2017.

The article identifies the fundamental problems of innovation as a factor in strengthening the economic security of an enterprise in the context of globalization and integration of the world’s economic space. The factors that have a direct impact on innovation activity both in the country and in the world have been investigated. Clustering of individual countries was carried out and Ukraine’s place among them was determined according to the Global Innovation Index. Using the software packages MS Excel and CurveExpert 5.0, a study of the index of innovative efficiency in Ukraine was carried out; dynamics of financing innovative activities in Ukraine, as well as the impact of the level of capital investment on the volume of financing innovative activities. It is proposed to assess the level of economic security of an enterprise based on indicators of its innovative development. The features of interpreting the concept of “innovative activity of enterprises” have been investigated. The sequence and interconnection of such categories as innovative potential, innovative activity, and innovative activity are analyzed. The structure of the process of innovation activity has been investigated. The rhombus of innovative activity is analyzed, which is formed from the following elements: receptivity to new things – provision of resources – communication and organization of the innovation process – a measure of competence. In the study of the specifics of the management of innovative-active enterprises, the analysis of the features and comparison of the differences between innovation activity and other types of economic activity was carried out. The structure of the process of managing innovatively active enterprises has been developed, taking into account aspects of the safety of activities. The prospect of further research identified a thorough analysis of the features of the management process of innovatively active enterprises, considering the impact of global risks and threats. The principal purpose of the article is to study the essence and main characteristics of innovatively active enterprises in the study's context of the security aspect.

The purpose of this article is to study the necessity of creation and road maps usage as an effective ‎tool in order to create novel approaches for managing innovative high-tech projects using the author-developed criterion of innovative ‎tension, interpreted as the difference of potentials of participants in the innovation process — the ‎donor-enterprise of innovations and the recipient-enterprise of innovations.‎ The method of comparative analysis of various forms of organization of the innovation process and the corresponding variants of the ‎ratio of innovative potentials of participating enterprises was used. As a result of the conducted research, methodical approaches to evaluate innovation potentials of donors-enterprises of innovations and enterprises-recipients of innovations were developed. A ‎criterion for estimating the innovative potential in the donor-recipient system, so-called innovative stress, is formulated. An attempt to disclose the importance of methodological support of road maps on the example of ‎innovative projects is made.

Our trends, formed in the conditions of active development of the post-industrial economy, dictate the need to apply an innovative approach not only to the development of the manufacturing sector, but also to form the innovative potential of service enterprises, which include trade enterprises. This is due to growing competition, increasing the frequency of new technologies for consuming services, increasing consumer demand. Innovative trade enterprises gain competitive advantages for the ability to expand the geography of service, optimize the speed of order fulfillment, provide a new level of comfort in receiving services, increase the reliability of services provided, and therefore increase customer confidence. The result of the previous review was the production of the most common features of the innovative potential, which are the result of systematization and a previous determination of the criteria for evaluating the potential of innovation. In conclusion, we can say that the innovative potential of the enterprise - is primarily the ability of the enterprise to create, develop and implement innovations. Innovation potential consists of a set of individual elements, each of which affects the resulting trait. Innovative potential is a separate object of management in the structure of strategic management of the enterprise. When assessing the innovation potential, it is advisable to use the necessary and sufficient number of indicators, which recorded the cause of the investigative relationship between the indicator and the result of the enterprise, are differentiated into groups. Obviously, based on the logic of the concept of "innovative potential of a commercial enterprise", the introduction of innovations and updates in the process of economic activity at all stages (from purchase to sale of goods) is evidence of staff knowledge, commercialization of creative ideas and actual potential. Only under these conditions it is possible to form and realize the innovative potential of a commercial enterprise, as well as to satisfy the interests of the consumer.

This article explores the innovation potential of the staff at industrial enterprises. The relevance of the research is confirmed by the increasing interest of companies in innovation. This manifests itself both in the changing organizational structure of enterprises and a new approach to human resource management, for instance, the revision of the key performance indicators of employees. One of the main goals of the research was determining the factors that influence the development of the innovation potential of staff and assessment of their impact. The institutional approach formed the conceptual basis of the study. It allowed the authors to consider the management of innovation potential as a special mechanism for achieving sustainability, stable development of an enterprise, and its strategic success in general. The authors established that organizational and administrative factors have the greatest influence on the formation and development of the innovation potential of staff, while the constraining factors are the lack of an innovative strategy, authoritarian management style, and bureaucratization. Studying the techniques aimed at the development of staff’s innovation potential, the authors concluded that the most effective ones for industrial enterprises are consultations of subject matter specialists. A significant novelty of this work is the model of interaction of participants in the innovation process developed by the authors. The research findings enabled the authors to devise recommendations for the formation and development of the innovation potential of the company’s employees.

The article describes the need to consider management of innovative food industry development at all levels of national economy. Management of innovative potential of regional economic entities is considered as a set of processes and activities of management cycle, forms, and methods of its organization, aimed at ensuring innovative development of economic entities, achieving formulated mission and innovative goals using a focused impact on innovative potential components. Organizational structure of state management of innovative potential is also described. Horizontalvertical structure of innovative potential management of regional economic entities of Russian food industry is based on this structure. It is described in the context of all levels of national economy. Innovative potential of regional economic entities is managed according to the principle of complexity, systemicity, goal commitment and continuality. A resource-based approach has been identified for innovation capacity management process.

Актуальнiсть тeми дослiджeння зумовлeння уповiльнeнням iнновацiйного розвитку потeнцiалу пiдприємства та важливiстю удосконалeння iснуючого процeсу управлiння iнновацiйним потeнцiалом. Магiстeрська дисeртацiя виконувалась вiдповiдно до планiв наукових дослiджeнь кафeдри мeнeджмeнту за тeмою «Iнновацiйнi засади розвитку промислових пiдприємств в рамках iнтeграцiї в свiтовий eкономiчний простiр» (№ ДР 0114U001132). Мeта роботи – полягає у розкриттi eфeктивних iнструмeнтiв та удосконалeннi практичних рeкомeндацiй щодо управлiння iнновацiйним потeнцiалом пiдприємства. Поставлeна мeта обумовлює вирiшeння наступних задач:  дослiджeння тeорeтико-мeтодичних пiдходiв до висчeння iнновацiйного потeнцiалу та управлiння ним;  надання оцiнки рiвня iнновацiйного потeнцiалу на пiдприємствi;  здiйснити аналiз управлiння iнновацiйним потeнцiалом на пiдприємствi ТОВ «Адмiксeр ЮА»;  дослiдити органiзацiйно-eкономiчний стан на пiдприємствi;  виявити слiбкi сторони в управлiнськiй систeмi iнновацiйним потeнцiалом;  запропонувати проeкт, що має на мeтi удосконалити управлiнську систeму iнновацiйним потeнцiалом;  здiйснити оцiнку запропонованих заходiв. Об’єктом дослiджeння є процeс управлiння iнновацiйниим потeнцiалом пiдприємства. Прeдмeтом дослiджeння є сукупнiсть тeорeтичних, мeтодичних пiдходiв та органiзацiйних засад управлiння iнновацiйним потeнцiалом пiдприємства. У магiстeрськiй дисeртацiї було використано сукупнiсть загальнонаукових та спeцифiчних наукових мeтодiв. Зокрeма, такi як аналiз i синтeз (фiнансово-eкономiчний аналiз показникiв дiяльностi пiдприємства, аналiз iнновацiйної дiяльностi), iндукцiя та дeдукцiя (мeтоди групування, мeтод синeргiї, бальний мeтод), мeтод логiчного мислeння та факторний аналiз. Наукова новизна дослiджeння полягає у такому: – визначeно характeрнi особливостi iнновацiйної дiяльностi пiдприємства, що дозволило виявити рiвeнь iнновацiйного розвитку на пiдприємтсвi; – уточнeно i поглиблeно iснуючi тeорeтичнi положeння щодо поняття iнновацiйного потeнцiлу та управлiння iнновацiйним потeнцiалом; – виявлeно та узагальнeно проблeми управлiння iнновацiйним потeнцiалом пiдприємтсва; – удосконалeно пiдхiд до управлiння iнновацiйним потeнцаiлом пiдприємства, що займається рeкламною дiяльнiстю; – виявлeно слабкi сторони iнновацiйного потeнцiалу пiдприємтсва; – запропонованi заходи для покращeння стану складових iнновацiйного потeнцiалу пiдприємства; – запропонованi засади управлiння iнновацiйним потeнцiалом на рiвнi складових та в цiлому. Практична значущiсть для пiдприємства полягає в тому, що запропонований проeкт та заходи пов’язанi з ним вплинуть на управлiння iнновацiйним потeнцiалом, надасть можливостi развитку та пiдвищить конкурeнтоздатнiсть пiдприємства. Вони дадуть eфeкт, що дасть змогу залишитися на лiдируючих позицiях в сфeрi надання рeкламних послуг. Розроблeнi в магiстeрськiй дисeртацiї на здобуття ступeня магiстра рeкомeндацiї та пропозицiї щодо вдосконалeння мeханiзму фiнансового розвитку iнновацiйного пiдприємства були прeдставлeнi на розгляд ради дирeкторiв ТОВ «Адмiксeр ЮА», дe було визнано можливiсть практичного застосування в майбутньому окрeмих заходiв та пропозицiй щодо управлiння iнновацiйним потeнцiалом пiдприємства (акт впроваджeння №1 вiд 27.04.2018). Апробацiя рeзультатiв роботи. Основнi положeння дисeртацiї доповiдались та обговорювались на науково-мeтодологiчних сeмiнарах кафeдри мeнeджмeнту протягом 2017-2018 рокiв, а також на всeукраїнських науково-практичних конфeрeнцiях, зокрeма: VIII-IХ Всeукраїнських науково-практичних конфeрeнцiя «Сучаснi пiдходи до управлiння пiдприємством», (м. Київ, 2017-2018 рр.).
The volume of the dissertation is 119 pages. The main text of the dissertation contains 24 tables, 17 figures, 12 formulas. The list of sources used includes 65 titles and is set out on 6 pages. The urgency of the research topic is due to the slowing down of the innovative development of the company's potential and the importance of improving the existing process of managing innovation potential. The master's dissertation was carried out in accordance with the plans of scientific research of the Department of Management on the theme "Innovative principles of development of industrial enterprises in the framework of integration into the world economic space" (№ ДР 0114U001132). The purpose of the work is to reveal effective tools and to improve the practical recommendations for management of the innovative potential of the enterprise. The stated purpose causes the following tasks to be solved: – research of theoretical and methodological approaches to the presentation of innovation potential and its management; – assessment of the level of innovation potential at the enterprise; – carry out the analysis of management of innovative potential at the enterprise "LLC" Admirer YA "; – to investigate the organizational and economic situation at the enterprise; – to identify the elastic parties in the management system with the innovative potential; – to propose a project aimed at improving the management system of the innovative potential; – evaluate the proposed measures. The object of the study is the process of managing the innovation potential of the enterprise. The subject of the study is a set of theoretical, methodological approaches and organizational principles of management of the innovative potential of the enterprise. In the master's thesis a set of general scientific and specific scientific methods was used. In particular, such as analysis and synthesis (financial and economic analysis of enterprise performance indicators, analysis of innovation activity), induction and deduction (grouping methods, synergy method, ball method), method of logical thinking and factor analysis. The scientific novelty of the study is as follows: – characteristic features of innovative activity of the enterprise have been determined, which allowed to reveal the level of innovation development at the enterprise; – the existing theoretical positions concerning the concept of innovative potential and management of innovative potential are specified and deepened; – problems of management of innovative potential of enterprise are revealed and generalized; – the approach to management of innovative potentials of the enterprise engaged in advertising activity is improved; – the weaknesses of the innovative potential of the enterprise were identified; – proposed measures to improve the state of the components of the innovative potential of the enterprise; – the proposed principles of management of innovative potential at the level of components and in general. The practical significance for an enterprise is that the proposed project and its associated activities will affect the management of innovative potential, provide opportunities for development and enhance the competitiveness of the enterprise. They will have an effect that will allow them to stay in the leading positions in the field of providing advertising services. The recommendations and proposals for improving the financial development mechanism of the innovation enterprise developed in the master's dissertation were submitted for consideration by the board of directors of LLC "Admirer YA", where the possibility of practical application in the future of certain measures and proposals concerning management of the innovative potential of the enterprise was recognized (the act of introduction No.1 of 27.04.2018). Approval of the results of work. The main provisions of the thesis were reported and discussed at the scientific and methodological seminars of the Department of Management during 2017-2018, as well as at all-Ukrainian scientific and practical conferences, in particular: VIII-IХ All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference "Modern Approaches to Enterprise Management" (Kyiv) , 2017-2018 gg.).

Метою магістерської роботи є визначення та удосконалення системи інноваційного менеджменту ТОВ “Делятинська деревообробна фабрика”, що дасть змогу провести реальне оцінювання управління інноваціями, виробничо-господарської, фінансової, кадрової діяльності деревообробного підприємства, а також розроблення теоретичних положень та практичних рекомендацій щодо покращення системи управління інноваційного менеджменту у діяльності підприємства. Об’єкт дослідження – сукупність виробничих, фінансово-економічних управлінських відносин, що формуються у процесі функціонування ТОВ “Делятинська деревообробна фабрика”, яке знаходиться у смт. Делятин, Надвірнянського р-ну, Івано-Франківської обл. The aim of the master’s thesis is to identify and improve the system of innovative management of LTD “Delyatynka woodworking factory”, which will enable real assessment of management of innovations, production, economic, financial, personnel activities of the woodworking enterprise, as well as the development of theoretical provisions and practical recommendations for improving the management system of innovation management in the activity of the enterprise. The object of investigation is the totality of production, financial and economic management relations that are formed during the operation of LTD “Delyatynka woodworking factory”, which is located in the village Delyatyn, Nadvirna district, Ivano-Frankivsk region. The aim of the work is to identify and improve the system of innovative management in the activity of LTD “Delyatyansky woodworking factory”, as well as the theoretical, legal and practical principles of the production, financial, economic and innovation activity of the wood-processing enterprise. The structure of the master’s work. The work consists of an introduction, five sections, conclusions, list of used literature and applications.

This thesis explores the challenges and opportunities of cultural entrepreneurship, exploring current conceptualisations of cultural entrepreneurs and to find new perspectives and recommendations for cultural entrepreneurs of the future. Cultural entrepreneurship is a contested, yet essential aspect of the growth of artists and arts organisations globally. Though there are similarities, this research demonstrates that cultural entrepreneurs from different backgrounds, industries and of varied sizes need different things and have different barriers so cannot be understood in the same way. Digital technologies and local networks do offer new possibilities for innovation however these are limited in scope and require further investigation and investment. Despite psychological, political and financial barriers to entrepreneurship in the creative industries, finding a balance between artistic, social, economic and institutional innovation for the various actors throughout the arts offers key insights to how artists and arts organisations can be more entrepreneurial. Through a grounded theory approach, this research connects previously disparate fields of cultural policy, social entrepreneurship and business model innovation to derive new perspectives of how cultural entrepreneurs can survive and thrive in the dynamically shifting world. Themes that emerged through the data analysis connect in new ways to Cohendet et al.’s (2012) ‘Anatomy of a Creative City’, outlining the underground, middleground and upperground actors; Albinsson’s (2017) theories of the quadruple bottom line in the creative industries; and a value ecosystem’s approach with a focus on value creation (Allee, 2002; Curtis, 2017). From this combination of literature and data collected, a novel approach to understanding cultural entrepreneurs emerges, creating a model to understand more holistically how value is created and captured for the artist or arts organisation. This model has a range of practical approaches intended to provide tangible pathways into combining the concepts of the quadruple bottom line, value ecosystems and different conceptualisations of cultural entrepreneurs, offering a novel contribution to all of these fields in addition to, and most significantly the topic of cultural entrepreneurship.

На підставі аналізу існуючих досліджень уточнено зміст понять «інновації», «інноваційний розвиток» та обґрунтовано їх взаємозв’язок. Досліджено сучасні тенденції інноваційного розвитку на рівні світової економіки, національної економіки та регіональної економіки. Запропоновано концептуальну схему інноваційного розвитку машинобудівних підприємств, яка містить чотири блоки взаємопов’язаних методичних підходів. Розроблено методичний підхід до проведення діагностики інноваційного розвитку, який передбачає формування простору чинників розвитку, їх аналітичне і графічне дослідження та побудову синтетичного показника розвитку. Розроблено методичні підходи побудови показника інноваційного потенціалу та прогнозування інноваційного розвитку за трьома складовими: використання інноваційного потенціалу, інноваційний розвиток та кластер інноваційного розвитку. Запропоновано методичний підхід з формування стратегій інноваційного розвитку.
The thesis on the obtaining of scientific degree of Candidate of science in the field of Economics according to specialty 08.00.04 - Economy and Management of Enterprises (on the types of economic activity) – the National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» of the Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sport of Ukraine, Kharkiv, 2011. The thesis is devoted to the pressing problems of forming of strategies of management of innovative development of enterprise with the purpose of improvement of activity of enterprises in an innovative sector. On the basis of analysis of existent researches the content of such concepts as «innovation», «innovative development» is defined more precisely and their interconnection is substantiated. Modern innovative trends of development at the level of world economy, national economy and regional economy are analyzed in the thesis. The conceptual pattern of innovative development of machine-building enterprises is proposed. It contains four blocks of mutual connected methodical approaches. Methodical approach of diagnostics of innovative development is worked out. This approach provides forming of space of factors of development, their analytical and graphic investigation and construction of synthetic index of development. Methodical approaches of construction of index of innovative potential and prognostication of innovative development according to three constituents: using of innovative potential, innovative development and cluster of innovative development are proposed. Methodical approach of forming of strategies of innovative development is proposed.

Background: Talent management and sustainable innovation are two popular topics for research aswell as two common focus areas for companies. Both can be seen as cost drivers or as somethingthat is crucial for the success and survival of the company. Objectives: Investigating potential synergies connected to integrating sustainable development intalent management programs and answering the question how companies present in the Swedishmarket use sustainable innovation in their talent management strategies. Methodology: Semi-structured interviews with employees at both large and medium sizedcompanies. Interviews are recorded, transcribed, and then analyzed with the help of the softwareNVivo. Results: The findings from this study answers to the question of how the most attractive mediumand large firms that operates in Sweden use sustainable innovation in their talent managementstrategies. They both use it as a theme in nano- and e-learnings and as one of the parts that defines atalented employee. Apart from this all interviewees also mention that sustainability is integrated ineverything they do, and therefore also indirectly included in talent management. Conclusions: The findings have theoretical as well as practical implications. The most attractivecompanies have to some extent included sustainable innovation in their work with talentmanagement and competence development. It is also interesting that the interviewees mentionsustainable innovation as an absolute must and that sustainability is integrated in their DNA. The interviewees also see their (talented) employees as a key factor for being able to achievesustainability and a sustainable business. Recommendations for future research: An in-depth study of one of the talent managementprograms at one of the companies that express that they also focus a lot of attention on sustainableinnovation to further investigate integration and/or explicit inclusion of sustainable innovation intalent management programs. In the monograph reviewed the development of the inventory management of railway transport in the new economic environment of market economy. According to the results of theoretical research, innovative and production potential of the supply system of railway transport the main directions and methods of transformation of the restructuring process under the corporate changes of JSC "RZD", positioned value system of the logistics of railway transportation, and developed a classification model used logistical resources. Evaluation of activity of structural divisions of Russian Railways supply is proposed to be viewed through an integrated and comprehensive approach to the development of systems of balanced indicators of supply and prompt handling of material resources, the implementation of which allows to distribute the strategic objectives of the company "Russian Railways" activities in the system of logistics of the Railways and also to involve in economic circulation of excessive and unused inventories of material and technical resources and efficiently reallocate them among enterprises at the site of the railway. Recommendations for the implementation of the developed algorithms and models are long term in nature and are based on the concept of logistics management and improve the business processes of the logistics system. Will be useful for managers and specialists of directorates of logistics of Russian Railways supply, undergraduates and graduate students interested in the economy of railway transport.

In the paper we have studied the progress and results of reforms in the healthcare system of Azerbaijan, the role of national programs for the modernization of various health sectors in strengthening public health in context of the problems facing the Azerbaijani economy. A notable progress is being made in the transformation of the delivery system medical care for the population over the years of reform. Particular attention is paid to the issues of medical science, improving the system of training medical personnel, increasing the reliability of medical data, and the introduction of information and communication technologies in the health sector. There is a need to develop and implement a model of the medical information system for medical institutions as a key element in the development of priority national health programs. The paper pays attention to the improvement of the organization, management, and financial support of the medical care system. In this regard, it is noted that it is necessary to apply the most effective ways of organizing medical care and using the available resource potential based on the introduction of innovative management technologies.

Original objectives and revisions – The original overall objective was to develop, test and validate a prototype yield mapping system for unit area to increase yield and profit for tree crops. Specific objectives were: (1) to develop a yield mapping system for a static situation, using hyperspectral and thermal imaging independently, (2) to integrate hyperspectral and thermal imaging for improved yield estimation by combining thermal images with hyperspectral images to improve fruit detection, and (3) to expand the system to a mobile platform for a stop-measure- and-go situation. There were no major revisions in the overall objective, however, several revisions were made on the specific objectives. The revised specific objectives were: (1) to develop a yield mapping system for a static situation, using color and thermal imaging independently, (2) to integrate color and thermal imaging for improved yield estimation by combining thermal images with color images to improve fruit detection, and (3) to expand the system to an autonomous mobile platform for a continuous-measure situation. Background, major conclusions, solutions and achievements -- Yield mapping is considered as an initial step for applying precision agriculture technologies. Although many yield mapping systems have been developed for agronomic crops, it remains a difficult task for mapping yield of tree crops. In this project, an autonomous immature fruit yield mapping system was developed. The system could detect and count the number of fruit at early growth stages of citrus fruit so that farmers could apply site-specific management based on the maps. There were two sub-systems, a navigation system and an imaging system. Robot Operating System (ROS) was the backbone for developing the navigation system using an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV). An inertial measurement unit (IMU), wheel encoders and a GPS were integrated using an extended Kalman filter to provide reliable and accurate localization information. A LiDAR was added to support simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) algorithms. The color camera on a Microsoft Kinect was used to detect citrus trees and a new machine vision algorithm was developed to enable autonomous navigations in the citrus grove. A multimodal imaging system, which consisted of two color cameras and a thermal camera, was carried by the vehicle for video acquisitions. A novel image registration method was developed for combining color and thermal images and matching fruit in both images which achieved pixel-level accuracy. A new Color- Thermal Combined Probability (CTCP) algorithm was created to effectively fuse information from the color and thermal images to classify potential image regions into fruit and non-fruit classes. Algorithms were also developed to integrate image registration, information fusion and fruit classification and detection into a single step for real-time processing. The imaging system achieved a precision rate of 95.5% and a recall rate of 90.4% on immature green citrus fruit detection which was a great improvement compared to previous studies. Implications – The development of the immature green fruit yield mapping system will help farmers make early decisions for planning operations and marketing so high yield and profit can be achieved.

This policy brief examines how co-management arrangements within small-scale fisheries can play a key role in enhancing sectoral and regional resilience. Despite major challenges, “multi-stakeholder collaborations” - such as co-management - demonstrate the potential for innovative knowledge transfer and strategic adaptation processes within the fisheries sector. The focus here is on Co-management Northern Bohuslän (Samförvaltning Norra Bohuslän), which promotes sustainable local fisheries and blue growth on Sweden’s west coast. The case illustrates how, under appropriate conditions, participatory local efforts can significantlycontribute to sustainability and resilience. The policy brief presents findings on related challenges and opportunities, including recommendations on future directions for the co-management initiative itself, and more general suggestions for co-management as a means to promote sectoral and regional resilience in the Nordic region.

This paper discusses System of Rice Intensification (SRI) interventions and its potential effects on paddy yield and commercialisation in Mngeta division, Kilombero district in Morogoro region, Tanzania. SRI is an innovative agroecological methodology that aims to improve yields and farmers’ profits by creating the most suitable environment for the rice plant to grow. It comprises the precise set of cultivation practices specifically required for careful management of biophysical needs of the rice plant for producing high yields. To assess the effects, we compare between trained and non-trained farmers, as well as between farmers who are members of SRI associations and non-SRI members, on aspects of adoption of SRI interventions, paddy productivity and yields. In turn, the effects of SRI is evaluated in terms of its influence on rice yield per hectare and commercialisation at household level.

The impacts of Harmful Algal Blooms (HAB), often caused by cyanobacteria (Figure 1), on water resources are increasing. Innovative solutions for treatment of HABs and their associated toxins are needed to mitigate these impacts and decrease risks without introducing persistent legacy contaminants that cause collateral ecosystem impacts. This technical note (TN) identifies novel opportunities enabled by Additive Manufacturing (AM), or 3D printing, to produce high surface area advanced material composites to rapidly prototype sustainable environmental solutions for aquatic nuisance species control. This innovative research explores deployment of 3D-printable polymer composite structures containing nano-scale photocatalysts for targeted open water treatment of HABs that are customizable to the site-of-concern and also retrievable, reusable, and sustainable. The approach developed to control cyanobacteria HAB events has the potential to augment or replace broadcast, non-specific chemical controls that otherwise put non-target species and ecological resources at long-term risk. It can also augment existing UV-treatment HAB treatment control measures. The expected research outcome is a novel, effective, and sustainable HAB management tool for the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and resource managers to deploy in their HAB rapid response programs. The research will provide a framework for scale-up into other manufacturing methods (e.g., injection molding) to produce the devices in bulk (quickly and efficiently). Research for this project title “Mitigation of Harmful Algal Bloom Toxins using 3D Printed Photocatalytic Materials (FY21-23)” was sponsored by the US Army Engineer Research Development Center’s (ERDC) Aquatic Nuisance Species Research Program (ANSRP).

Innovation districts are physical spaces that serve to strengthen the foundations and institutions of an innovation ecosystem. The design, implementation, and management of formalized innovation districts is a new practice area. Research draws upon the experience of concentrated areas of innovation that occurred organically, such as Boston’s Route 128, as well as intentional projects to bring together innovators in large science and technology parks, such as North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park. Existing research focuses on how to define and design innovation districts and evaluate their impact, as well as general policy considerations. In this paper, we review the definitions and benefits of an innovation district, reviewing the existing empirical research on their impacts. We then propose a series of questions to guide practitioners in addressing the economic, physical, social, and governance elements of an innovation district. Finally, we outline some of the challenges in creating an innovation district and ways to measure progress, to allow practitioners to get ahead of potential issues in the future. This paper is intended to help policymakers and practitioners working in innovation and economic development translate the concepts of innovation ecosystems into actionable next steps for planning innovation districts in their communities.
