Background: This case study reviews the complicated treatment of an older person under the care of numerous specialists in the ambulatory care setting. As various providers made concurrent changes in pharmacotherapy without communication with other providers, the patient experienced acute changes and decompensation. Assessment: Polypharmacy played a significant role in the acute decompensation of the patient. Changes made in the context of specific specialties inadvertently had a negative impact on other disease states. Outcome: Intentional communication between all providers on the patient’s health care team resulted in a deeper understanding of the overall plan and therapeutic goals. Care synchronization ultimately improved patient outcomes. The clinical pharmacy team provided multiple pharmacotherapy recommendations to improve pain and anxiety without jeopardizing safety and therapeutics for other disease states. These interventions provided a key element that streamlined and improved patient-centered care. Conclusion: In this case, poly-provider was responsible for polypharmacy that significantly impacted the patient’s care and quality of life. Pharmacists and the pharmacists’ patient care process play a significant role in improving patient-centered care by identifying medication changes and potential side effects, especially in the wake of interventions by multiple providers.

Category: Other Introduction/Purpose: New instruments like the Patient Reported Outcome Information System (PROMIS) minimize the burden to patients and providers addressing significant barriers to adoption. Despite these advances provider adoption remains lackluster. Models of technology adoption suggest adoption is more likely to occur when PRO’s directly improve patient care (performance expectancy) and it’s easy to implement (effort expectancy). Problems with effort expectancy are dealt with by training and improving logistics (i.e. eHR presentation, alerts), where performance expectancy is addressed through research (i.e. validation of thresholds). The purposes of this study were to: 1) evaluate the proportion of orthopedic rehabilitation providers who use PRO’s and how they use them; And, 2) to determine if performance expectancy, effort expectancy or provider burnout are related to provider use. Methods: Fifty rehabilitation providers (physical therapist and athletic trainers) anonymously completed the electronic PRO Adoption Survey. Participants were 23.4±5.8 years old and 54% were female. The purpose of the PRO Adoption Survey is to track adoption across health systems. The first section of the PRO Adoption survey includes whether providers use PRO’s and asks them to detail how they use them (Table 1). A factor analysis supported the use of sets of questions to determine performance expectancy and effort expectancy (Table 1). Performance expectancy captures the health benefits the provider expects to experience. Effort expectancy captures the provider’s expectations of how easy it will be to implement PRO tools. The validated Maslach-2 burnout scale (BO) was included as another a factor that may influence adoption. Proportions and chi square tests were used to describe provider use of PRO’s and its relationship with performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and burnout. Results: The profile of PRO use by rehabilitation professionals is that a majority know about PRO’s (86%) however only 34% utilize PRO’s during clinic visits (Table 1). The most common PRO used is PROMIS (83%), followed by generic measures (41%) and disease specific (29%) measures. Type of use indicated the most common use was to make clinical decisions (71%) with relatively few using it for research (12%). Interestingly, 47% of PRO users review data with patients. The average responses for performance expectancy were 3.9 ± 0.1. The average responses for effort expectancy were 3.2 ± 0.2 or “neutral”. The average BO score was 4.6 ± 1.0. Chi square analysis suggested performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and burn out were not significantly associated with provider use. Conclusion: PROMIS scales are currently available in the electronic medical record(eMR) leading to high use (86%) by current PRO users (34%). High performance expectancy scores (~4/5) and low BO suggest providers can be motivated to use PRO’s. However, providers are neutral (~3/5) on how easy PRO’s would be to implement. Also, lower scores for performance expectancy associated with “aggregate” PRO data (only 54% marked “Agree” for this item) suggests training on specific uses of aggregate data are also indicated. These data detail the real issues providers need addressed to effectively capitalize on the benefits of PRO’s to improve clinical care.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to better understand customer citizenship behavior (CCB) motivation through the development and validation of a new scale to measure the CCB motivation (CCBM) construct. Design/methodology/approach The mixed-methods study, combination of qualitative and quantitative research, is used to develop the scale item that measures CCBM. For nomological validity testing, data were collected from customers who had transacted with a specific service provider business in the past six months. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. Findings This study suggests that CCBM can be reliably measured by 12 items, composed of four sub-dimensions, self-enhancement, personal principles, desire to support the service provider and perception of the service provider’s past performance. In addition, nomological validity testing through three empirical models confirms that CCBM is a multi-dimensional construct with a second-order nature and an antecedent that positively influences CCB. Originality/value The research provides an original view regarding CCBM scale development in the services contexts and makes invaluable contributions to understanding a variety of motivations that lead customers to voluntary participation behaviors.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine how changes to the business model of a leading SaaS solution provider by way of altering customer experiences could prevent further customer attrition and instead promote customer retention. This study also aims to clarify the root causes of customer attrition existing within the current customer journey and suggest efforts aimed at increasing customer retention. Method: The methodology used in this study is qualitative in the form of semi- structured interviews and has used a deductive approach to research. The approach has been conducted as interviews serving two perspectives: Internal and External. Internal perspective is comprised of interviews conducted with the case phenomena such as employees and managers, whilst the external perspective is comprised of customer insights. Both perspectives have been used to answer the main research questions, just as theoretical literature proposes it a necessity when analyzing customer experiences. Conclusion: The conclusion derived from this study suggests that despite all customers appreciating the product/service provided by The Corporation, customer dissatisfaction stems from activities later on in the customer experience. These activities are perceived as inefficient due to long lead-times when managing advanced software issues as well as perceived information asymmetry within different departments in The Corporation towards the customers. This has implications on the business model as it is directly related to the capture of value from customers later on in the customer journey. Business processes currently used to maintain and service customers represent both the main source of value for The Corporation as well as the root causes of customer dissatisfaction. Efforts aimed at preventing customer attrition and increasing customer retention involves more efficient advanced issue management either by contingency planning or re-allocation of resources to prevent long-lead times of issue management. Multiple main points of contact towards the customer and increased interdepartmental customer-centric communications within The Corporation would increase information symmetry as well as improve customer satisfaction, customer experience and finally and promote customer retention.

Pricing models of Employee Assistance Programmes: experiences of corporate clients serviced by a leading Employee Assistance Programme service provider in South Africa. Pricing models is one of the sub-standards in programme design amongst the standards outlined in the Employee Assistance Programme Association of South Africa (EAPA-SA). According to EAPA-SA (2010:5), costing an EAP should be based on sound financial principles. Such costing will ensure the best possible application of financial resources with the objective of justifying the balance between expenditure and benefits. However, pricing is identified as a challenging area in the EAP field. Corporate clients are faced with a situation where EAP service providers bid for one contract, selling EAP services which are of a similar nature using varying pricing models with different prices. Such price competitiveness leaves the corporate client with no reason not to overlook the financial consequences of choosing one service provider over the other, since price becomes the critical deciding factor in purchasing decisions. The pricing issue in the EAP field and the impact on pricing models used prompted the researcher to pursue the study to understand the processes and complexities involved in the pricing models in the EAP field. The study focused on two samples which comprised of participants from corporate client who had terminated contracts with a leading EAP service provider, as well as participants from this leading EAP service provider. The research findings indicate that contracting in the EAP field is a complex process owing to a number of factors that have to be considered before contracting. The complexity impacts strongly on the choice of the pricing model eventually chosen for contracting purposes. The views shared by both groups of participants indicate that there are internal and external factors that influence the choice of a pricing model. These are the factors that must be considered when making decisions as to what should be made available to employees and to the company for the effective implementation of Employee Assistance Programmes. Informed by these factors, the researcher developed a guideline that could be applied in practice as a standard EAP pricing model.

Kolter(1999) thought that consumers would feel satisfied or unsatisfied after buying goods or accepting services. If they feel much satisfied, they will come for goods again. In these three years, especially, the growth of mobile phone has being soften, which imply the market growth is getting saturated. The message tells us that the goods isn’t not the only factor to make a decision when consumer purchases. Moreover, other factors such as price, staffs, service suppliers, facilities and devices become important considerations. From the illustration above, the research will focus on the relationship of price perception, service quality, and consumer’s satisfaction and repurchase intentions as well as their differences. The findings of research which used multiple regressions showed that the overall satisfaction will rise when both preferential price and rational price of price perception affect consumer’s satisfaction. Refer to service quality such as fees, consumer supports; simple and direct purchasing procedure will also affect the overall satisfaction. Moreover, the relationship of preferential price and price acceptance to word-of-mouth repurchasing has significant influence. Meanwhile, the word-of-mouth repurchasing has also obvious affect in terms of service quality as well as consumer’s satisfaction. However, it showed little significance among each dimension. Finally, the conclusion, suggestion and constraint of the research are shown according to the consequence of the study.

In modern era of Information Technology, the accesses to all information related to a business activity in large scale manufacturing units can be made available at threshold, by certain checks and balances. The maximum population of Indian manufacturing not only comes from small and medium scale industry but also such companies contribute maximum share to Indian GDP. Large scale industries and O.E. Ms are in a position to spend as well are spending the required budget on IT (Information Technology) and control various costs and inventories on day–to-day basis by incorporating latest system software ( For example ERP’s ,SAP, Sales Force)etc. The small and medium scale industries lack in using such software because it is of high fixed, operating costs and its privacy. Cloud computing is an emerging technology where server is maintained by parent software company and domains are to be shared. In case parent host company charges reasonably affordable cost and encrypts the confidential data and stores it such that only authenticated users can access the data and ensures the security, safety, and confidentiality of data, it can revolutionize the medium and small-scale industry users in enhancing the overall business performance. This research paper has been aimed at exploring the possibilities for implementing the cloud computing technology for improving the overall business performance for medium and small-scale industries in India.

South Korea’s world trade volume ranked no. 9 in the world in 2012 (WTO). Since Korea’s economy is highly reliant on exports and imports, logistics is a crucial factor for the Korea’s economic growth. However Korean global logistics companies are in a low position in the global market with low brand awareness and lack of distinctiveness due to lack of its marketing efforts. In our research we studied three world leading global logistics service providers such as DHL, FedEx, and Panalpina. In our case study we investigated each company’s marketing 4P, strategies and find out how each company achieved its competitive advantage in the global market. Through the case studies we found that world leading logistics companies targeted for different customers by using different marketing mix and strategies to deliver their value. There is a great gap between world leading companies and Korean global logistics service providers (KGLSP) in terms of brand awareness and marketing strategies. We found that the most important thing to achieve KGLSP’s competitive advantages in global market is that the company should carefully analyze the market, set the target market, provide value, and create method to communicate more effectively. So the company can successfully position itself to where they plan to be. In addition a well aligned company’s strategy and marketing mix, organizations structure create company’s competitive advantage and increase its brand awareness. Korean Global Logistics Service Providers generally use a standardize strategy to expand its business into global without carefully analyzing the market and targeting customers. We concluded that this is a major reason of KGLSPs’ weak performance and low brand awareness in global market. Through our case study we developed globalizing marketing strategies for Korean global logistics service providers to be more competitive in global market and become world leading logistics company.

AbstractWe present a general monitoring methodology to summarize news about predefined entities and topics into tractable time-varying indices. The approach embeds text mining techniques to transform news data into numerical data, which entails the querying and selection of relevant news articles and the construction of frequency- and sentiment-based indicators. Word embeddings are used to achieve maximally informative news selection and scoring. We apply the methodology from the viewpoint of a sustainable asset manager wanting to actively follow news covering environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects. In an empirical analysis, using a Dutch-written news corpus, we create news-based ESG signals for a large list of companies and compare these to scores from an external data provider. We find preliminary evidence of abnormal news dynamics leading up to downward score adjustments and of efficient portfolio screening.

AbstractIn a digitalized and deeply interconnected industrial ecosystem, it is of paramount importance to create mechanisms that seamlessly guarantee standardization and verifiability, interoperability (including regional legislation), transparency, and trustworthiness, in particular in the intermediation of all businesses and stakeholders, including SMEs. In this respect, the International Data Spaces and GAIA-X initiatives pave the way to a framework for collaboration that use secure and trusted data services to safeguard digital sovereignty.Huawei is a leading ICT provider, operating in more than 170 countries, and an active member of more than 600 standardization bodies and industry associations, among them IDS and GAIA-X. With their international footprint, IDS and GAIA-X are of the utmost importance for Huawei in Germany, Europe, and globally. Here, we provide a brief overview of our understanding of the data ecosystem’s inherent issues, and how regulations address them, followed by more specific examples of how IDS and GAIA-X objectives can be supported by Huawei, with emphasis on validating concepts in the manufacturing domain as a prominent reference example for an important European market vertical. We illustrate the use case of an evolved implementation of Industry 4.0 that integrates machines and cloud services. 5G connectivity for trusted networked production is added to the example. We finally highlight the use of GAIA-X compliant federated AI for control, maintenance, and match-making of demand and supply actors.

Abstract Postpartum hemorrhage is the leading cause of maternal mortality worldwide. This chapter reviews the World Maternal Antifibrinolytic (WOMAN) trial that tested whether the administration of tranexamic acid prevents death and other adverse events from postpartum hemorrhage. The study found a statistically significant decrease in death from postpartum hemorrhage in patients who received tranexamic acid compared to those who received placebo, but with a large number needed to treat of 250. However, given that there were no complications associated with tranexamic acid treatment, this trial supports its use in postpartum hemorrhage, which is the leading cause of maternal mortality worldwide.

Abstract High performance drilling is an approach applied in the drilling of hole sections that are not primarily benefitting from data acquisition except the minimum like gamma ray and directional. Therefore these sections are drilled with high ROP and subsequently cased in support of reducing well costs. High performance drilling leading to continuous ROP optimization has been proven a key enabler for invisible lost time reduction (ILT), being one of the current regional well delivery challenges. In this paper we explain the approach followed by the team comprising of operator, service provider and equipment provider in reducing the impact of ILT during the actual drilling phase. We learnt that creating a performance culture based on rigorously applying of best practices and the eagerness to continuously improve on past performance as a first strategy and the application of novel directional drilling motor technology as the second resulted in ROP performance records. For example in one field an average ROP record was achieved of 188 ft / hour a 15 % improvement from the previous record. We learnt that in particular the communication between all parties i.e. the client office, the service provider and the team on the rig was the most important factor in order to create a shared vision on the need to improve the ROP based on the last ROP performance benchmark. Secondly the latest motor technology and the way of how it gets deployed, available to the team played a major role, and brought the performance level to a new dimension whereby the ROP was targeted to be optimum instead of maximum thereby reducing the risk for NPT related incidents (hole problems, equipment break-down) and repair and maintenance cost becoming cost prohibitive. This paper is specifically meant to share best practices from the last 10 years with the larger UAE drilling community. It is service provider contribution to provide insights for the new generation drilling engineers and directional drillers in safely pushing the drilling performance to higher levels all the time targeting the ILT in hole making. The work has proved that a combination of low torque high speed and high torque low speed can successfully performance drill all vertical hole sizes in the UAE on-shore fields either using tri-cone or PDC bits.Figure 1High performance motor

Abstract After 10 years of Brazilian presalt exploration and development, the carbonate reservoirs continue to pose drilling challenges, leading to unwanted bottomhole assembly (BHA) trips due to severe shock and vibration, low rates of penetration (ROP), and premature drill-bit cutting structure damage. Today, industry efforts to improve the performance in the Brazilian presalt carbonates are driven by trial and error, which is very costly in the ultradeepwater drilling environment. The adoption of a collaborative mindset since 2012 between a service provider and operator with the desire to bring about a step change in drilling efficiency on the Brazilian presalt cluster enabled a systematic learning framework to capture, evaluate, and reuse knowledge from drilling dynamics, geological, and petrophysical aspects. The innovation of this work is the implementation of an improved, fully digital bit design workflow, integrating calibrated 4D dynamic simulation model and petrotechnical expertise from drilling engineering, geomechanics, geology, and petrophysics groups to continue to push the drilling performance envelope in the challenging Brazilian presalt application.

With the advent of “power by the hour” type agreements within the civil aeroengine market, the application of engine monitoring system data has reached the level of strategic use for informed decision making in not only the aftermarket but increasingly in the contract negotiation stage. One of the key cost drivers in these dollar-per-hour contracts for the OEMs to analyze is the life and maintenance requirements of the turbine blades leading ultimately to blade life management. Such life management of key components is of critical importance to ensure that the economic and technical risks to both service provider and customer are minimized. The optical pyrometer, through providing a direct temperature measurement of the turbine blades, is a primary input for providing a more realistic assessment of the component’s operating history associated with the use of life usage/remaining algorithms. However, the greatest concern with the in-service use of pyrometry is the issue of fouling since the pyrometer’s lens is exposed to the turbine environment. The level of optical contamination is usually minimized by introducing purge air, bled from the compressor, down the sight tube to prevent both the build-up of contaminants on the exposed system optics and particles in the gas stream from coming in contact with the lens. This paper provides a review of purge air designs and the key methodologies for engine designers to be acquainted with when seeking to integrate the use of optical pyrometry systems in new engine concepts.

Low-fee private schools are today recognised as important players in the education market in developing countries, as they are argued to provide at least marginally better education than is on offer in the state schools. Leading international development agencies have begun encouraging governments in developing countries to include them within the policy-planning process. Based on fieldwork in two urban neighbourhoods in Pakistan, this paper shows that low-income parents are keen to secure good-quality education for their children, but they have to choose not only between state schools and low-fee private schools but also from among an array of low-fee tuition providers in their immediate neighbourhood to ensure that the child can cope in class, complete daily homework assignments, and pass exams in order to transition to the next grade. The evidence presented in this paper suggests that whether their child is enrolled in a state school or in a low-fee private school, the parents’ dependence on low-fee tuition providers is absolute: without their services, the child will not progress through the primary grades. Yet the sector remains entirely under-researched. The paper argues for the need to map the scale of this sector, document the household spending on it, and bring it within policy debates, placing it alongside low-fee private schools and state schools in order to provide access to primary education to all and improve the quality of education. At the same time it complicates the existing debates on low-fee private schools, by showing that parents on very low incomes — in this case households where mothers are employed as domestic workers and fathers are in casual employment — find them inaccessible; it also shows that household spending on education needs to take into account not just the charges imposed by low-fee schools, but also the cost of securing religious education, which is equally valued by the parents and is not free, and also the cost of paying the low-fee tuition provider. When all these costs are taken into account, the concerns that low-fee private schools are not truly accessible to the poor gain further traction. The paper also shows that mothers end up bearing the primary burden, having to work to cover the costs of their children’s education, because the core income provided by the father can barely cover the household costs.

Emergency Relief (ER) is a Department of Social Services (DSS) funded program, delivered by 197 community organisations (ER Providers) across Australia, to assist people facing a financial crisis with financial/material aid and referrals to other support programs. ER has been playing this important role in Australian communities since 1979. Without ER, more people living in Australia who experience a financial crisis might face further harm such as crippling debt or homelessness. The Emergency Relief National Coordination Group (NCG) was established in April 2020 at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic to advise the Minister for Families and Social Services on the implementation of ER. To inform its advice to the Minister, the NCG partnered with the Institute for Governance at the University of Canberra to conduct research to understand the issues and challenges faced by ER Providers and Service Users in local contexts across Australia. The research involved a desktop review of the existing literature on ER service provision, a large survey which all Commonwealth ER Providers were invited to participate in (and 122 responses were received), interviews with a purposive sample of 18 ER Providers, and the development of a program logic and theory of change for the Commonwealth ER program to assess progress. The surveys and interviews focussed on ER Provider perceptions of the strengths, weaknesses, future challenges, and areas of improvement for current ER provision. The trend of increasing case complexity, the effectiveness of ER service delivery models in achieving outcomes for Service Users, and the significance of volunteering in the sector were investigated. Separately, an evaluation of the performance of the NCG was conducted and a summary of the evaluation is provided as an appendix to this report. Several themes emerged from the review of the existing literature such as service delivery shortcomings in dealing with case complexity, the effectiveness of case management, and repeat requests for service. Interviews with ER workers and Service Users found that an uplift in workforce capability was required to deal with increasing case complexity, leading to recommendations for more training and service standards. Several service evaluations found that ER delivered with case management led to high Service User satisfaction, played an integral role in transforming the lives of people with complex needs, and lowered repeat requests for service. A large longitudinal quantitative study revealed that more time spent with participants substantially decreased the number of repeat requests for service; and, given that repeat requests for service can be an indicator of entrenched poverty, not accessing further services is likely to suggest improvement. The interviews identified the main strengths of ER to be the rapid response and flexible use of funds to stabilise crisis situations and connect people to other supports through strong local networks. Service Users trusted the system because of these strengths, and ER was often an access point to holistic support. There were three main weaknesses identified. First, funding contracts were too short and did not cover the full costs of the program—in particular, case management for complex cases. Second, many Service Users were dependent on ER which was inconsistent with the definition and intent of the program. Third, there was inconsistency in the level of service received by Service Users in different geographic locations. These weaknesses can be improved upon with a joined-up approach featuring co-design and collaborative governance, leading to the successful commissioning of social services. The survey confirmed that volunteers were significant for ER, making up 92% of all workers and 51% of all hours worked in respondent ER programs. Of the 122 respondents, volunteers amounted to 554 full-time equivalents, a contribution valued at $39.4 million. In total there were 8,316 volunteers working in the 122 respondent ER programs. The sector can support and upskill these volunteers (and employees in addition) by developing scalable training solutions such as online training modules, updating ER service standards, and engaging in collaborative learning arrangements where large and small ER Providers share resources. More engagement with peak bodies such as Volunteering Australia might also assist the sector to improve the focus on volunteer engagement. Integrated services achieve better outcomes for complex ER cases—97% of survey respondents either agreed or strongly agreed this was the case. The research identified the dimensions of service integration most relevant to ER Providers to be case management, referrals, the breadth of services offered internally, co-location with interrelated service providers, an established network of support, workforce capability, and Service User engagement. Providers can individually focus on increasing the level of service integration for their ER program to improve their ability to deal with complex cases, which are clearly on the rise. At the system level, a more joined-up approach can also improve service integration across Australia. The key dimensions of this finding are discussed next in more detail. Case management is key for achieving Service User outcomes for complex cases—89% of survey respondents either agreed or strongly agreed this was the case. Interviewees most frequently said they would provide more case management if they could change their service model. Case management allows for more time spent with the Service User, follow up with referral partners, and a higher level of expertise in service delivery to support complex cases. Of course, it is a costly model and not currently funded for all Service Users through ER. Where case management is not available as part of ER, it might be available through a related service that is part of a network of support. Where possible, ER Providers should facilitate access to case management for Service Users who would benefit. At a system level, ER models with a greater component of case management could be implemented as test cases. Referral systems are also key for achieving Service User outcomes, which is reflected in the ER Program Logic presented on page 31. The survey and interview data show that referrals within an integrated service (internal) or in a service hub (co-located) are most effective. Where this is not possible, warm referrals within a trusted network of support are more effective than cold referrals leading to higher take-up and beneficial Service User outcomes. However, cold referrals are most common, pointing to a weakness in ER referral systems. This is because ER Providers do not operate or co-locate with interrelated services in many cases, nor do they have the case management capacity to provide warm referrals in many other cases. For mental illness support, which interviewees identified as one of the most difficult issues to deal with, ER Providers offer an integrated service only 23% of the time, warm referrals 34% of the time, and cold referrals 43% of the time. A focus on referral systems at the individual ER Provider level, and system level through a joined-up approach, might lead to better outcomes for Service Users. The program logic and theory of change for ER have been documented with input from the research findings and included in Section 4.3 on page 31. These show that ER helps people facing a financial crisis to meet their immediate needs, avoid further harm, and access a path to recovery. The research demonstrates that ER is fundamental to supporting vulnerable people in Australia and should therefore continue to be funded by government.

The gap between technology development and automated vehicle deployment has been underestimated and the challenges involved with delivering autonomy have been far greater and more complex than first envisaged. TRL believe that in order for the UK to achieve its potential for automation in transport, the following activities are key in overcoming these challenges: Develop a UK regulatory approval system that enables the safe and secure deployment of automated vehicles in the future. A flexible and responsive regulatory system is needed that can enable innovation by streamlining entry into emerging markets and lessen the initial regulatory burden on developers and manufacturers. Provide a simple, consistent but robust approach to assuring safety during trials and testing to enable and facilitate trials across all UK locations and environments. The approach to safety assurance varies between stakeholders and this inconsistency can provide a barrier to testing in multiple locations or avoiding areas with more stringent requirements. TRL is developing a software tool that could be used to guide and support stakeholders when engaging with trialling organisations. Develop and implement a UK safety monitoring and investigation unit to monitor safety, analyse data, investigate incidents and provide timely feedback and recommended actions. TRL can identify road user behaviours that are likely to lead to a collision. These behaviours could be monitored using in-vehicle data and supplemented with environmental and location data from intelligent infrastructure. This proactive approach would drive safety improvements, promote continuous improvement, accelerate innovation and development and make Vision Zero a more realistic and achievable target. Enable more advanced trials to be undertaken in the UK where the boundaries of the technology are extended and solutions to the identified challenges are explored without compromising safety. London’s Smart Mobility Living Lab (SMLL) provides a unique real-world test facility to conduct advanced tests and validate vehicle behaviour performance. Through testing in a real-world environment and monitoring performance using cooperative infrastructure, we can accelerate learning and technology progression. Accelerate the adoption and safe implementation of automated vehicles for off- highway activities and minimise worker exposure to high risk environments and working practices within the UK and globally. As part of an Innovate funded project on Automated Off-highway Vehicles, TRL has developed and published a draft Code of Practice providing guidance to operators of automated vehicles in all sectors of the off-highway industry.

Prognostics and health management (PHM) frameworks are widely used in engineered systems, such as manufacturing equipment, aircraft, and vehicles, to improve reliability, maintainability, and safety. Prognostic information for impending failures and remaining useful life is essential to inform decision-making by enabling cost versus risk estimates of maintenance actions. These estimates are generally provided by physics-based or data-driven models developed on historical information. Although current models provide some predictive capabilities, the ability to represent individualized dynamic factors that affect system health is limited. To address these shortcomings, we examine the biological phenomenon of epigenetics. Epigenetics provides insight into how environmental factors affect genetic expression in an organism, providing system health information that can be useful for predictions of future state. The means by which environmental factors influence epigenetic modifications leading to observable traits can be correlated to circumstances affecting system health. In this paper, we investigate the general parallels between the biological effects of epigenetic changes on cellular DNA to the influences leading to either system degradation and compromise, or improved system health. We also review a variety of epigenetic computational models and concepts, and present a general modeling framework to support adaptive system prognostics.

In Afghanistan, the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT) and Yemen, women’s rights organizations are leading efforts to realize the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda, in spite of ongoing conflict, insecurity and occupation. But without national duty bearers and international actors stepping up to meet their commitments, implement National Action Plans (NAPs) and provide resources and support, the full potential of the agenda will not be reached. This briefing paper explores challenges, lessons learned and opportunities related to realizing the WPS agenda, and makes recommendations to a range of national and international stakeholders on how to support its implementation in Afghanistan, OPT and Yemen.

This document analyzes gross and net public debt data for countries in the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region up to December 2020. It provides a unique overview of the main characteristics of the regions debt and a comparative analysis of its most pressing risks (currency, maturity, rate, and credit). Its main purpose is to assess the changes in size and composition of debt for the region and to provide a comparative analysis of the diverse country cases that comprise it. 2020 was an atypical and pressing year in fiscal demands motivated by the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to increased financing needs and thus a potential to disrupt the characteristics of debt. Using debt data collected since 2006 by the IDBs LAC Debt Group, the analysis aims to contextualize the 2020 debt structure. It also analyzes LAC debt in the first year of the pandemic, examining its evolution between June 2020 and June 2021 and provides an overview of key variables for debt in LAC countries.
