When a Lebanese student produces a French text, both orally and in writing, he becomes the author of a language of which he is unaware of the most subtle nuances. This bridge, which joins two languages, is built on a dilemma, loyalty-betrayal. When the Lebanese expresses themselves in French, they must always put themselves in a position of understanding. To express oneself in a language other than one's own is first of all tounderstand; teaching a foreign language means above all getting the learner to get rid of literal expression, otherwise, we distort the meaning, and we end up without a “Tower of Babel”.Learning a foreign language necessarily involves moments of difficulty caused by different sociolinguistic factors, including the interference of the mother tongue and the influence of mastery of other foreign languages. Such factors play an important role, especially at the beginning of learning. Our study is based on an analysis of the recurring errors of Lebanese learners in private middle and high schools in Beirut, having identical levels in French, the language studied alongside Arabic, the mother tongue. This study allows us to establish some elements for reflection concerning interference by comparing two different morphosyntactic systems: Arabic and French. The writing errors of French-speaking Lebanese learners from thesame mother tongue and for the same instructions can be compared in order to understand the reasons underlying these errors and to propose appropriate teaching strategies to correct them

The average of success in the official brevet test at the end of the intermediate cycle, does not exceed 45 % in lebanon. The usage of foreign languages in teaching the scientific courses in the intermediate cycle for students with insufficient proficiency in foreign languages, may be one of the factors behind this situation. To cope with this situation, a groupe of private schools dicided in 1982, that the arabic language should be used in all scientific sciences up to the end of the intermediate cycle, hence they raised the number foreign language credits. A comparative study, and analysis of results of a sequence of tests each involving three types of questions going in the direction of increased dependency on language was made. These tests were offered to two different populations of students, of similar socio-cultural background, and having been taught mathematics in arabic throughout the primary. Two essential conclusions were derived from this study : teaching mathematics in arabic throughout the intermediate cycle increases the chances of success in this science for students with insufficient proficiency in foreign languages, furthermore there is no risk of jeopardizing the possibility of pursuing their future education in foreign languages

Starting from the interdependence of assessment practices and of teaching and learning practices in mother language, this work presents an integration of the reflection on assessment in this field as an indispensable tool to the transformation of the teaching and learning practices of Portuguese as a mother language in the Brazilian context. Seeking to show how this integration can be done, we present the theoretical basis that concern in the first place the language activity, in the second place the speaker and the learner's cognitive activity, and finally the assessment. On this basis, we analysed the assessment practices in portuguese as a mother language in the state of Para, Brazil and we proposed some actions that could reach this goal. This articulation is shown in two different levels: first, at the teaching stage through a teaching and learning approach called interactional approach; second, at in-service training of Portuguese teachers through activities of formative assessment that allow the preparation of teachers according to the interactional approach

Our search is part of a vast program which enquires into the study of original language in a multicultural society. Two main concepts were involved in the study : the original language and the cultural identity. Therefore, we tried to put it into practice by examining some children who mearn arabic language in a french school (two places in Toulouse : Bagatelle and le Mirail) when others don't want to or can not, for many reasons, have the advantage of that sort of education. We used the method of "questionnaire" meant for children in fifth primary form (french cm2) and the method "conservation" with children who are about twelve and thirteen years old. Why that kind of search ? To show clearly that, as a matter of fact, the original language is very important in the formation of the cultural identity. So, it seems that an institutional system is necessary to favour a multicultural fulfillment of concerned children

To evaluate is to reveal the project, confirm choices and estimate the usefulness of consequences. This thesis addresses the assessment of the evaluation system of French teaching in cycle III (Middle School) of basic education in Lebanon and places it within the framework of the reorganization of the education system in order to train citizens in all domains: intellectual, human, national as well as social domain. The evaluation of our evaluation system which was carried out over the past three years is supposed to have been assessed in qualities, constituent elements and results attained. This reflexion on reality led us to stick to the practices ground practices, by means and methods, to compare them with the intentions behind them. It also guides us to make empirical observations and objective analysis; draw conclusions, and become aware of the needs to - hopefully - be able to propose more secure steps in the evaluation of the training system. This work concerns the partners of the "school life" who want to understand reality as well as those who work for it : the decision makers who carry out the education policy and ensuring their choices for a more transparent, adaptable and more effective evaluation system; school principals who wish to be more pedagogical than administrators; the teachers who don't want to evaluate teaching haphazardly anymore; parents of students who want to participate in the formation of their children. For all those who aim at better "expressing" the situation of French teaching, and aim at better "expressing" the future of the Francophone (French-speaking) school in Lebanon

Our ressearch deals with the education of children of algerian origin in the french elementary school. Involving many contradictions, school life the appears as a triple interaction between the teaching the native language and culture (ilcs), who imposes with his presence, his position and his segregated teaching, on the creation of intercultural approaches as a pedagogy

Within a neo-structuralist approach of cognitive development, which attemps to organise a piagetian genetic psychology with an information processing theory, we tried to analyse the processes in young children from reunion island reared cognitive inferred from the induction referential reasoning within a diglossic context. The existence and the nature of the processes involved are inferred from verbal behaviours preceding and following actions in cognitive training situation. Gains are identified according to developmental steps and modes of representations which are genuine to the pre-operative period. The analysis of the results gives strong evidence of significant cognitive improvements when the Creole mother tongue is used with subjects not well acquainted with the official teaching language (French). The experiment shows that the children have acquired significant competences in cognitive situations far remote from those usually obtained in traditional school training in French, this at an earlier age and with better results than those obtained with children taught in the official language, or not taught at all. More over, these competences seem also to appear in context situations different from the training situations these results bear a significant statistical difference the two groups experimental (training in French and in Creole) and the control group (no training)

Morocco, ex-protectorate of france, 40 years after his independance keeps on maintaining the french language. The survival of french as a no native language in the actual morocco, depends of socio-cultural and socio-economic factors influenced by the home and foreign state policy. The educative system is arabisted from the first primary school year up to the last year of the secondary cycle, but the universitary studies in scientific and technology fields so as the further education for adults are realised in french : people must be proficient in this language in order to obtain universitaty and professional diplomas. A linguistic polemic "french arab" exist in the moroccan society. The thesis shows that, nowaday in morocco, the french language is muting as a complementary tongue of the arabic language. Its statute is evolving to the state of a moroccan language following up and significatively the morocco's french speaking countries politic choices in his home, foreign and economic policy. The french-moroccan co-operation is instrumenting in developing those options
