In this article the different speaking voices and personae inLamentations are analysed with the intention of uncovering their dialogicalinteractions and the effect they have on communicating thethemes of the text. It is shown that there are four principal voices inLamentations: the lamenter, Zion, the Man and the community. An essentialelement in the polyphony in Lamentations is the personifi cationof the principal voices. Here it is the persona of Zion who particularlyasserts herself in her role as personifi ed city. She confronts God, whoremains silent in the discourse. The absence of God which is one of themain themes in Lamentations, becomes more obvious in the dynamicinteraction between the lamenter and Zion. The dialogical discoursein Lamentations communicates a many-faceted portrait of God whichresults in a corresponding many-sided theology.

La teoria della mente (toM) è la capacità di attribuire stati mentali a se' e agli altri e di prevedere il comportamento sulla base di essi. recentemente gli studiosi della tom hanno adottato un'ottica life-span (che ha portato alla costruzione di nuovi strumenti per valutare la tom) e iniziato a studiare le differenze individuali in questa capacità (includendo la comprensione delle emozioni e i legami tra tom e funzionamento socio-emotivo). Il presente lavoro ha lo scopo di approfondire lo studio dello sviluppo della comprensione di stati mentali (epistemici ed emotivi) e i suoi legami con le difficoltà emotive nei bambini. Affronta così alcune nuove tematiche nell'ambito degli studi sulla tom, relative alla valutazione della tom in bambini con sviluppo tipico frequentanti la scuola primaria e la relazione tra tom e problemi internalizzanti. Viene presentato un nuovo compito avanzato di ToM e la sua validazione e standardizzazione su un campione italiano di bambini di 6.5-11.4 anni: il voice test. esso valuta l'abilità di comprendere stati mentali complessi da indici vocali. Infine, viene studiata la relazione tra tom e rischio psicologico e, in particolare, analizzato il legame tra la scarsa tom e le frequenti lamentele somatiche nei bambini in eta' scolare.
Theory of Mind (ToM) is the ability to impute mental states to the self e to the others as a way of making sense and predicting behaviour. Recently ToM researchers has been adopted a life span perspective, that leads to the construction of new instruments to assess ToM, and studied individual differences in ToM, including emotion understanding and the relationship between ToM and socio-emotional functioning. The present work is aimed to analyze deeper the development of mental states (both epistemic and emotional) understanding and its link with emotional difficulties, dealing with some novel topics within ToM studies, regarding ToM assessment in school age children and the relationship between ToM and internalizing problems. After reviewing ToM studies, it presents the Voice Test, a new advanced ToM instrument, and its validation and standardization on an Italian school age children sample aged 6,5-11,4 years; the test assesses the ability to understand a wide range of complex mental states from vocal cues. finally, it is studied the relationship between ToM and psychological risk and, in particular, it points out the link between poor ToM and frequent somatic complaints in a normal school age children population.

La ricerca indaga le pratiche interazionali messe in atto dagli educatori professionali che operano in due diversi servizi riabilitativi: una comunità per pazienti psichiatrici e una comunità diurna per giovani tossicodipendenti. La scelta dell’interazione come locus in cui esplorare le pratiche degli educatori professionali è motivata dal fatto che la parola costituisce uno dei principali veicoli attraverso cui le attività sono implementate nei servizi riabilitativi. La ricerca ha preso le mosse dalle seguenti domande. Quali azioni mediate dalla parola gli educatori compiono nel lavoro con gli utenti dei servizi riabilitativi? Quali sono gli effetti di queste azioni? E quale cultura della riabilitazione esse esprimono? La procedura di ricerca utilizzata per analizzare le pratiche interazionali degli educatori è l’analisi della conversazione (AC). Questa procedura consente di indagare le pratiche che i partecipanti a un’interazione utilizzano per costruire intersoggettivamente la struttura e il senso degli eventi a cui prendono parte. Sul piano del metodo di ricerca, il suo impiego comporta: una focalizzazione sulle azioni che i partecipanti compiono attraverso l’impiego del linguaggio nell’interazione; un’attenzione ai metodi che i partecipanti impiegano per rendere reciprocamente accessibile la loro comprensione di ciò che avviene in ogni momento dello sviluppo sequenziale dell’interazione. I due servizi riabilitativi sono stati indagati attraverso l’osservazione partecipante, la stesura di un diario etnografico e la raccolta di audio-registrazioni di incontri di gruppo tra educatori e utenti; la trascrizione e l’analisi di questi incontri costituisce il materiale empirico primario della ricerca qui presentata. L’analisi è focalizzata particolarmente su episodi di interazione in cui gli utenti condividono con gli educatori esperienze che hanno vissuto recentemente e alcune preoccupazioni a esse collegate. Nella comunità “A”, un centro residenziale per pazienti con diagnosi di schizofrenia, gli operatori animano un incontro settimanale in cui sollecitano gli utenti del servizio a parlare di sé, condividendo eventi che hanno vissuto nei giorni precedenti. I pazienti utilizzano questi spazi conversazionali per condividere alcune preoccupazioni rispetto a situazioni ed eventi la cui responsabilità può essere attribuita a dei soggetti (famigliari, operatori, altri pazienti) o a delle organizzazioni (come il servizio psichiatrico); lamentando sofferenze e disagi che sono stati loro imposti da questi soggetti, i pazienti attivano l’aspettativa di ricevere ascolto e comprensione da parte degli operatori. In queste situazioni, gli operatori si trovano di fronte a un dilemma: malgrado l’ascolto delle preoccupazioni dei pazienti sia un compito rilevante nell’attività in cui sono impegnati, gli operatori rivestono anche il ruolo di chi esercita funzioni di supervisione, dovendo assicurarsi che i pazienti rispettino le regole del servizio psichiatrico e aderiscano alle procedure, attività e trattamenti che al suo interno sono attivati. Gli operatori non possono affiliarsi alle lamentele attraverso cui i pazienti mettono in discussione l’ordine normativo del servizio, ma nemmeno possono ignorarle. Affrontano questo dilemma pratico attraverso l’impiego di due gruppi di dispositivi interazionali: in alcuni casi, gli operatori evitano di allinearsi alle lamentele dei pazienti e tentano di spostare altrove la conversazione; in altri casi, gli operatori affrontano le lamentele, rassicurando i pazienti e cercando di mostrare che le loro preoccupazioni sono eccessive, oppure disaffiliandosi apertamente rispetto alle lamentele dei pazienti e cercando di dimostrare che le valutazioni a esse sottese sono infondate. Nella comunità “B”, un centro diurno per il recupero di giovani tossicodipendenti, gli educatori animano un incontro settimanale in cui gli utenti sono sollecitati a condividere le esperienze che hanno vissuto nei giorni precedenti. Gli utenti utilizzano questi spazi per presentare delle lamentele, attraverso cui identificano soggetti (co-presenti o assenti) che hanno provocato loro dei disagi o delle sofferenze. Gli educatori rispondono a queste lamentele in modo confrontazionale, cercando di dimostrare che le valutazioni a esse sottese sono errate e bisognose di correzione. Attraverso queste pratiche, gli educatori sollecitano gli utenti ad assumere il controllo della propria vita. Queste sequenze di lamentela sono occupate da disallineamenti tra gli educatori e gli utenti: mentre gli utenti lo trattano come un luogo in cui poter ricevere ascolto e comprensione per le loro difficoltà vissute e in cui poter attribuire ad ‘altri’ la responsabilità per i loro problemi, gli educatori lo trattano come uno spazio in cui sollecitare gli utenti a risolvere da sé i loro problemi e in cui allinearli ai valori dell’impegno e della responsabilità personale. In entrambi i contesti indagati, le pratiche degli educatori sono plasmate dalla co-presenza di orientamenti multipli: il compito di accompagnare gli utenti dei servizi verso nuove comprensioni di sé e delle esperienze che quotidianamente vivono si salda inestricabilmente al mandato istituzionale di garantire la loro adesione alle procedure e ai trattamenti del servizio. Le pratiche descritte in questo studio consentono agli educatori di rispondere simultaneamente a entrambe le esigenze: impiegando dei dispositivi interazionali disaffiliativi, gli operatori si distanziano dalle valutazioni degli utenti e cercano di sostituirle con altre prospettive, più compatibili con i valori e le aspettative che strutturano l’architettura culturale del servizio riabilitativo. Gli incontri settimanali tra educatori e utenti diventano, in questo modo, contesti per la negoziazione della natura delle relazioni e delle identità dei partecipanti, con annessi diritti e obblighi. Oltre all’obiettivo di descrivere le pratiche degli educatori professionali, la ricerca ha perseguito una finalità di carattere trasformativo, promuovendo presso gli educatori coinvolti nel progetto una maggiore consapevolezza delle pratiche interazionali che quotidianamente impiegano nell’incontro con gli utenti. In entrambe le strutture, è stato organizzato un ciclo di laboratori in cui sono le trascrizioni degli incontri tra educatori e utenti e alcuni feedback analitici preliminari sono stati utilizzati come stimoli per la riflessione e la discussione. L’esame dei percorsi effettuati presso i due servizi evidenzia che la riflessione può incontrare dei punti di arresto quando gli educatori considerano l’interazione faccia-a-faccia con gli utenti come un contesto dove non si manifestano componenti essenziali della loro pratica professionale, quando considerano il proprio agire come eccessivamente compresso da vincoli contestuali che sono sottratti alle loro possibilità di controllo e quando percepiscono i feedback del ricercatore come forme di giudizio sulla loro performance. Gli educatori possono, invece, utilizzare i feedback analitici come risorse per avviare processi riflessivi quando riescono ad agganciarli ai loro bisogni di crescita professionale e quando riescono ad integrarli all’interno delle cornici interpretative che utilizzano per dare senso al loro agire quotidiano nel contesto. In questi casi, la riflessione si estende oltre l’esame della struttura che le pratiche interazionali presentano sul piano della conversazione con gli utenti, abbracciando i loro effetti in termini delle opportunità di partecipazione che agli utenti sono offerte; si estende, altresì, alla disamina degli obiettivi, delle interpretazioni e delle preoccupazioni sottese alle azioni, avviando una progressiva ristrutturazione dei valori che informano la pratica educativa e la cultura della riabilitazione a essa collegata.
This research explores the interactional practices that care workers employ in two different settings: a residential centre for psychiatric patients (“A” centre) and a daily service for drug users (“B” centre). Choosing interaction as the locus where care workers’ professional practices can be explored is motivated by the fact that spoken language constitutes one of the main vehicles that enables these professionals to implement their activities. The research answers the following questions. What language-mediated actions do the care workers accomplish in interaction with the service users? What are the effects of such actions? And what rehabilitation culture do they embody? The research approach employed to study the care workers’ interactional practices is conversation analysis (CA). This approach allows to describe the procedures that interactants employ to intersubjectively establish the structure and meaning of the events that they take part to. Its methodological underpinnings are: a focus on the language-mediated actions that participants deploy in interaction; attention to the methods that participants use to make available to one another their understanding of what is going on in every moment in the sequential unfolding of the interaction. Data where gathered on field through participant observation, writing of an ethnographic log and audio-recording of multi-person encounters between the care workers and the service users in both settings. The audio-recordings are the primary data source for this research. The analysis has concentrated on episodes of interaction where the service users talk about recently experienced events and voice concerns that are related to them. In the encounters that take place at the “A” centre, the care workers solicit the service users (patients diagnosed with schizophrenia) to talk about themselves and share recently experienced events. The service users utilize these spaces to voice feelings of discontent about states of affairs whose responsibility can be attributed to different subjects (family members, care workers, other patients) and organizations (such as the psychiatric service); by complaining, they project the expectation of being listened and understood by the care workers. In these situations, the workers are recurrently faced with a dilemma: while attending to the patients’ concerns is relevant to the type of activity that they are engaged in, the care workers are also incumbents of the role of supervisors, whose task is to foster the patients’ compliance to the treatment procedures of the psychiatric service. They can’t affiliate with the complaints by which the patients contest the normative order of the service, nor they can ignore them. They deal with this kind of dilemma by employing two sets of interactional devices: in some cases, the workers withhold alignment to the complaining activity and try to direct the talk elsewhere; in other cases, they deal with the complaints either by comforting the patients and trying to depict their concerns as exaggerate, or by overtly disaffiliating from them and trying to demonstrate that the assessments underlying the complaints are flawed. In the encounters that take place at the “B” centre, the care workers solicit the service users (young drug abusers) to share experiences that they lived in the last few days. The service users utilize these spaces to complain about parties (absent or co-present) that caused them some harm. The care workers deal with these complaints confrontationally, by trying to expose the assessments underlying them as faulty and in need of correction. Through this kind of practice, the workers encourage the service users to think of themselves as entitled to the right and obligation to exert control over their own lives. Complaint sequences are recurrently occupied by misalignment between the care workers and the service users: while the latter treat these conversational spaces as sites where they can receive listening and understanding for their grievances and where they can legitimately attribute responsibility for their troubles to ‘others’, the former treat it as a context where they can encourage the service users to deal with those troubles on their own and try to align them to values of personal responsibility and commitment. In both the rehabilitation services where the research was carried out, the care workers’ practices are shaped by multiple orientations: the task of promoting an improvement of the service users’ awareness of themselves and of their everyday experiences is inextricably linked to the task of securing their compliance to the treatment procedures that form the architecture of the rehabilitation services. The interactional practices described in this research allow the care workers to attend to both sets of goals: the care workers disaffiliate from the service users’ stances and try to substitute them with other perspectives, compatible with some institutionally relevant values and expectations. The weekly encounters thus constitute a site for the negotiation of relationships and identities, with attendant rights and obligations. In addition to the goal of describing the care workers’ practices, the research also pursued a goal that was transformative in character, by fostering the care workers’ awareness of the interactional resources that they employ in their everyday activities. A cycle of reflective workshops was carried out in both the rehabilitation centres, utilizing transcripts of the care workers-service users interactions and some preliminary analytical feedbacks as starting points for reflection and discussion. The analysis of this experience shows that the reflective process can be hindered when the care workers fail to consider face to face interaction with the service users as a context where important parts of their work are manifested and can be observed, when they think of their practices as the only available practical solutions given a set of contextual constraints and when they orient to the analytic feedbacks as evaluations of their performance. The analysis also shows that the care workers can use the analytic feedbacks that they receive to engender reflection when they manage to tie them to their needs for professional development and when they incorporate them in the interpretive framework that they use to make sense of their professional practice. In these cases, the reflective process moves beyond the mere scrutiny of observable interactional practices, and extends to their interactional effects; it also extends to consideration of the kinds of goals, interpretations and concerns that those practices embody. This process enables the care workers to progressively transform the values that form the infrastructure of their practice and the rehabilitation culture that their everyday actions embody.

La Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) informa sobre el sensible fallecimiento del gurú internacional del branding, Wally Olins, quien en octubre del año pasado fue distinguido como Profesor Honorario de la universidad. A los 83 años, el actual presidente de la consultora internacional Saffron Brand Consultans falleció de una corta enfermedad, según señaló su familia. Olins fue pionero en temas de identidad corporativa y uno de los inventores de conceptos como lo que ahora llamamos Marca País. Como consultor desarrolló proyectos de identidad para algunas de las marcas más grandes del mundo, tales como 3i, Akzo Nobel, Repsol, Renault, Volkswagen, Tata o Lloyd, entre muchas otras. También fue el hombre detrás del concepto de muchas marcas país o marcas ciudad como Londres, España, Irlanda del Norte, Lituania, Polonia y Portugal. Entre los principales premios y distinciones en mérito de su extraordinaria carrera profesional, destacan su grado de Commander of the British Empire, el premio Presidents´Award, D & AD en el 2003, la Medalla de la Sociedad Real para el fomento del Arte, el premio a los Diseñadores de la Fundación Príncipe Felipe, entre otros. A thorough understanding of the reality of migration is the best way to manage it and seize its value. For it, statistical data, can help do just that: they show that the foreign presence in Italy has not undergone major variations in recent years. A major part has been played by recent Italian citizenship acquisitions; and this takes place, paradoxically, while there is a much lamented lack of legislation and changes are invoked all round. Future perspectives seem to confirm, at least in the short term, a certain stability, generated by a weak attractiveness for “traditional” immigration and a significant maturation of older immigration components, accompanied by changes in status.

AbstractD/deaf activists have consistently lamented their exclusion from the decision-making process by service providers. Accessibility is only effective when designed with contributions from those affected by the perceived or known barrier. This paper redresses the historic absence of the D/deaf paradigm, and recenters the focus to the individual’s perspective of accessibility requirements by developing a conceptual framework, constructed through the review of empirical and theoretical literature. The conceptual dimensions presented are from the D/deaf person’s perspective as valued through shared power and ownership. The aim of this conceptual paper is to explore how D/deaf-centric research can be applied and qualitatively measured through the combination of self-report, observation and Mobile eye tracking (MET).

In this contribution, Birgit Abels explores music-making as a knowledge practice that can teach us a lot about a postcolonial world where hegemonic and disenfranchised epistemologies compete. Music ›is‹ not; music is only ever becoming, and that becoming interlaces with our own becoming. In music's evanescence lies its efficacy. Process-philosophically, the efficacy of music can never be categorical: a signified, a given or purely subjective (however defined). Instead, music affects, and interacts with, the felt body as a continuous, amorphous stream of layered complexity. This complexity straddles the territorial boundaries of the material and the immaterial, of the referential and the essential; and, it is deeply relational in nature. Outlining music-making's relational capacities through the terms ›sound knowledge‹ and ›sound work‹, in this contribution, Abels will quickly arrive at the atmospheric workings of sonic practices. We know through music not least atmospherically, and we act on that knowledge in ways that cannot possibly be pinned down to either the signified or the sonically essential. Exploring music-making in terms of sound knowledge, she argues, has the potential to open up post- colonial studies' much lamented, but nonetheless persistent heavy textual bias in favour of a more encompassing consideration of cultural practices.

Grounding grids (GG) play a fundamental role in the protection of personnel and prevention of damages in equipment during surge transients on substations caused by lightning discharges on power systems. In this context, a precise GG modeling must consider several factors such as the arrangement and the soil compacted in stratified layers. This paper proposes a lumped approach for GG buried in several stratified soils to compute the transient node voltages when subjected to lightning strikes. The vertical and horizontal electrodes are modelled separately by lumped circuit approach. The vertical electrode impedances buried in a stratified soil are computed by the numerical Method of Moments (MoM) in the full-wave electromagnetic software FEKOR , directly in frequency domain, and then, an electric circuit is obtained by the Vector Fitting technique. The horizontal electrodes are modelled based on the electromagnetic radiation theory, where each segment of the electrode can be regarded as a lamental currentcarrying conductor. Lightning currents of fast and slow-front waveforms, are employed in the simulations. Results show that when stratified soils are considered, the differences of the transient voltage peaks, in comparison with the ones calculated for the homogeneous soil is more pronounced as the thickness of soil decreases.

Esta tesis doctoral artística dirigida por la práctica se ocupa de los potenciales de la polivocalidad y la narrativa digital interactiva. El proyecto práctico, Saints of Paradox, está construido como un libro de imágenes impreso que se puede experimentar a través de una plataforma de realidad aumentada (AR). La historia de ficción trata sobre una mujer que lamenta la desaparición de su amante en el golpe de estado brasileño de 1964 y vive durante 40 años en una habitación de recuerdos acumulados. En cada ilustración, el usuario puede seleccionar tres botones en el dispositivo, que activan una versión diferente de la historia. Tres narradores (santos) presentan interpretaciones interconectadas pero divergentes de los eventos moldeados por sus distintas posiciones teológicas. Los valores respectivos de compasión, ortodoxia y realismo pragmático distorsionan los detalles de las imágenes, el sonido, el movimiento y el significado. Las viñetas animadas de AR, cada una respaldada por un paisaje sonoro cinematográfico de composición única, permiten a los personajes poblar el mundo lujosamente ilustrado. Las velas parpadean y arden, las serpientes se enroscan entre los macizos de flores que respiran y las habitaciones amuebladas con el contenido de los recuerdos acumulados palpitan con misterio. La imagen escaneada revisa un paralaje interactivo que produce una sensación de espacio tridimensional, funcionando como un componente técnico y conceptual. En teoría, la historia navega por las relaciones entre lo real y lo imaginario, y se refiere a modos binarios mágicos reales de representación textual (Flores, 1955; Champi, 1980; Slemon, 1988, 1995; Spindler, 1993; Zamora y Faris; 1995; Bowers, 2004). Aquí, el significado negocia un camino poco confiable, a veces paradójico, entre la contabilidad racional e irracional y la narración polivocal. La dinámica entre el libro y los entornos de AR produce una sensación de realidad mixta (real y virtual). La experiencia narrativa reside principalmente en un mundo virtual inestable, y el libro impreso funciona como una vasija enigmática desocupada. Debido a esto, nos encontramos con una sensación de inversión ontológica donde lo “virtual” responde a las ambigüedades presentadas por lo real (el libro). En la obra, el sincretismo religioso opera como una referencia a la cultura brasileña y un dispositivo artístico utilizado para comunicar una negociación de diferentes voces y puntos de vista. Las formas extrañas, y de alguna manera congruentes, de las influencias europeas, africanas e indígenas se fusionan para formar el mundo del fotomontaje de la novela. Los fragmentos de imágenes pueden considerarse marcadores semióticos de mestizaje cultural e ideológico y ensamblarse en un “nuevo estado real” ambiguo del ser que sugiere completitud sincrética. Metodológicamente, el proyecto emana de un paradigma de investigación artística pospositivista (Klein, 2010). Está respaldado por un enfoque heurístico (Douglass y Moustakas, 1985) para el descubrimiento y refinamiento de ideas a través de la permanencia y la explicitación. Por lo tanto, la investigación se basa en el conocimiento tácito y explícito para desarrollar una narrativa, una estructura y tratamientos estilísticos de ficción. Se emplearon una serie de métodos de investigación para evaluar el potencial comunicativo del trabajo. La colaboración con otros profesionales permitió altos niveles de experiencia y proporcionó una plataforma informada de intercambio y progresión de ideas.
