The storm season of 2022 was rich in dangerous and notable storm situations. Although dangerous stormy weather occurred also in other months of summer, especially in August, the longest period of more than a week with storms occurred in the last week of June, when the high intensity of precipitation led to a repeated announcement of even an extreme warning level. This period is evaluated in detail in the article. In that season, storm situations were continuously communicated on social networks having elicited a positive response from the professional and lay public.

INTRODUCTION: On June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court reversed the constitutional right to abortion in Dobbs v. Jackson. We aimed to explore changes in interval female permanent contraception procedures before and after the Dobbs ruling. METHODS: We performed a retrospective chart review of interval female permanent contraception procedures at a large academic center between June 24, 2019, and May 25, 2023, using relevant CPT codes. Procedure counts pre- and post-ruling were compared. Chi-squared and difference-in-mean-proportions tests were used to explore differences across periods by patient characteristics. Institutional review board approval was waived for this study. RESULTS: There were 913 procedures performed during the observation period: 611 in the 3 years pre-ruling (June 24, 2019 to June 23, 2022) and 302 in the 11 months post-ruling (June 24, 2022 to May 25, 2023). There was a 49.5% increase in procedures between the pre-ruling and post-ruling timeframes. A higher proportion of patients who identify as White underwent procedures post-ruling compared to non-White counterparts (P<.001). Chi-squared testing indicated a relationship between insurance status and post-ruling procedures (P<.001). The largest proportion of patients who had procedures post-ruling were privately insured. Patients who had procedures post-ruling had lower gravidity compared to those who had procedures pre-ruling (P<.001). CONCLUSION: There was a significant increase in interval female permanent contraception procedures post-Dobbs ruling with significant differences found by race, insurance, and gravidity—notably, in a state without restrictive contraception or abortion legislation. As state abortion and contraception laws evolve, both state and national trends in female permanent contraception should be monitored.

INTRODUCTION: The Dobbs v. Jackson United States Supreme Court decision, issued June 24, 2022, fundamentally altered options for addressing unintended pregnancy. This curtailing of access to abortion care may be an inflection point in how individuals capable of becoming pregnant select contraceptive options. We hypothesize that in the immediate wake of the Dobbs v. Jackson decision, those undergoing surgical sterilization will be younger in age and more likely to be nulliparous. METHODS: This was a retrospective chart review study. IRB approval was obtained for the study. Using CPT codes, we utilized Epic to identify all patients undergoing surgical sterilizations at an academic, tertiary care hospital during the 12 months preceding the Dobbs decision (June 24, 2021 to June 24, 2022) and the 12 months immediately after the Dobbs decision (June 25, 2022 to June 25, 2023). Charts were reviewed for age, insurance status, highest level of education, gravidity, parity, and type of sterilization procedure, as well as time between request for and completion of surgical sterilization. RESULTS: In the 12 months after the Dobbs v. Jackson decision, individuals undergoing female surgical sterilization via salpingectomy or tubal occlusion had a lower mean age and lower mean parity compared to those undergoing sterilization in the 12 months preceding Dobbs. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates that, since the Dobbs v. Jackson decision, individuals seeking female surgical sterilization are younger and less likely to be multiparous. This implies that as access to abortion care in the United States becomes more tenuous, those who seek female surgical sterilization procedures as contraception are younger and lower parity individuals.

These earthquakes are: (1) Chile (28⁰44′ S, 71⁰28′ W) on 04 July 2021 (M = 6.0), (2) Panama (7⁰23′ N, 82⁰46′ W) on 21 July 2021 (M = 6.7) (3) Philippines (13⁰42′ N, 120⁰43′ E) on 23 July 2021 (M = 6.7) (4) Russia (48⁰51′ N, 154⁰54′ E) on 24 August 2021 (M = 6.0), (5) Taiwan (24⁰30′ N, 121⁰49′ E) on 24 October 2021 (M = 6.2), (6) Nicaragua (11⁰13′ N, 86⁰31′ W) on 09 November 2021 (M = 6.3), (7) Guatemala (14⁰08′ N, 91⁰23′ W) on 16 February 2022 (M = 6.2), (8) Philippines (14⁰05′ N, 119⁰22′ E) on 13 March 2022 (M = 6.4), (9) Japan (37⁰42′ N, 141⁰34′ E) on 16 March 2022 (M = 7.3), (10) Taiwan (23⁰23′ N, 121⁰36′ E) on 22 March 2022 (M = 6.7), (11) Philippines (19⁰01′ N, 121⁰21′ E) on 30 June 2022 (M = 6.0). We examined the SLHF, SST, CLW, and Water Vapor characteristics before the earthquakes to look for a precursory indication. The seasonal plot of every location for each parameter have plotted in the present paper (Fig. 2(a-d) to 12(a-d)). The SLHF, SST, CLW, and Water Vapor data show unusual behaviour in earthquakes between June 2021 to June 2022. The important aim of this study was to investigate and show that SLHF, SST, CLW, and water vapor could change during, before, or after earthquakes that occurred near or beneath an ocean. Our study could help us understand how the land, ocean, and atmosphere respond to earthquake activity.

AbstractThe third realization of the International Celestial Reference Frame (ICRF3) was adopted in August 2018 and includes positions of extragalactic objects at three frequencies: 8.4 GHz, 24 GHz, and 32 GHz. In this paper, we present celestial reference frames estimated from Very Long Baseline Interferometry measurements at K-band (24 GHz) including data until June 2022. The data set starts in May 2002 and currently consists of more than 120 24h observing sessions performed over the past 20 years. Since the publication of ICRF3, the additional observations of the sources during the last four years allow maintenance of the celestial reference frame and more than 200 additional radio sources ensure an expansion of the frame. A study of the presented solutions is carried out helping us to understand systematic differences between the astrometric catalogs and moving us towards a better next ICRF solution. We compare K-band solutions (VIE-K-2022b and USNO-K-2022July05) computed by two analysts with two independent software packages (VieVS and Calc/Solve) and describe the differences in the solution strategy. We assess the systematic differences using vector spherical harmonics and describe the reasons for the most prominent ones.

Abstract This chapter looks at the various emerging issues that are relevant in a discussion on debt sustainability of the subnational governments (SNGs) in India. These include the end of GST compensation from June 2022, the rising contingent liabilities of the SNGs that account for almost 24 per cent of GDP, the large losses that still plague the state DISCOMs, the rising inefficient subsidies which have seen double-digit growth in 2019–20 and 2020–21, the poor fiscal performance of the state-level public enterprises, the high inflation and associated high bond yield, and most importantly the decline in share of tax devolution. Over the years, the percentage of central GTR devolved to states has declined from 35% in 2015–16 to 30% in 2020–21. All these challenges if not addressed in a timely manner, may further worsen the already debt-stressed situation of SNGs.

Christians today have three opposing views on the biblical relation- ship between husband and wife. Those views range from Christian egali- tarianism, which the New Testament interprets as a doctrine of complete equality of responsibility between men and women in marriage, to a call for a “return to complete patriarchy” in which relations are based on male domination and their authority in marriage. Whether patriarchal and religiously supported relations have led to the inferior position of women and the inadequate position of children in family relations of traditional patriarchal family, in which negative events within the family are hidden from the outside world, is always a topical question. On the other hand, some early church fathers valued family less, and celibacy and freedom from family ties were considered a more desirable choice. Deviation from traditional values, understandings, norms and reformism of modernists have significantly influenced the patriarchal family, the understanding of family relations and the institution of marriage. In the first part, the paper will provide a historical–theoretical view of the relationship between the church and the state, as well as a comparative overview of this relationship. In the second part of the paper, the emphasis will be on the concept of marriage in the world’s major religions, and on the, perhaps, the biggest challenge, which a patriarchal family has been facing with, which is reflected in the legalisation of same–sex marriages. By overturning the ruling in the case of Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion almost 50 years ago, on 24 June 2022, by the decision in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, No. 19 –1392, 597 U.S. (2022), jurisdiction was transferred from the federal level of the US to the jurisdiction of the states. How much influence did religion have in that case and what have been the consequences of the latest decision by the Supreme Court of the United States?

This report summarizes the IAEA Technical Meeting on the International Network of Nuclear Reaction Data Centres held at the IAEA Headquarters in Vienna, Austria from 14 to 17 June 2022. The meeting was attended by 24 participants representing 13 cooperative Centres from eight Member States (China, Hungary, India, Japan, Korea, Russia, Ukraine and USA) and two International Organisations (NEA, IAEA) as well as a participant from Kazakhstan. A summary of the meeting is given in this report along with the conclusions and actions.

Sharp increases in systemically important crude oil prices have been a major cause of the recent surge in the inflation rate in the U.S. This paper investigates the extent to which the increase in oil prices can be attributed to excessive speculation in the oil futures market. Our analysis suggests that excessive speculation in the crude oil market has been responsible for 24%-48% of the increase in the WTI crude oil price during October 2020-June 2022. These estimates translate into an oil price increase of around $18-$36 per barrel and an increase in the U.S. PCE inflation rate by circa 0.75 to 1.5 percentage points during the same period. We complement the analysis with an empirical investigation of the crude oil market which shows that (speculative) long non-commercial open-interest positions in oil futures have increased considerably relative to short non-commercial positions. We further find that higher futures prices for crude oil ‘Granger-cause’ oil spot prices, the futures prices of corn and soybeans and the fertilizer price. These econometric results show that oil speculators have to be held accountable for not just raising oil prices, but also driving up food commodity prices. We finally discuss measures to clamp down on excessive speculation in oil in order to eliminate its systemically adverse consequences for the U.S. economy.

Contraception plays a key role in people’s realization of their sexual and reproductive health and well-being. The factors that shape contraceptive behaviors are complex and dynamic, and there is growing recognition among reproductive health service providers and advocates that contraceptive service delivery must prioritize patients’ values and preferences to help them exercise their reproductive autonomy.1 Similarly, research and public health surveillance systems that measure not only contraceptive use and method selection but also contraceptive preferences are best suited to evaluate service quality and track progress toward meeting the needs of reproductive-aged people. Building on findings from two previous Guttmacher Institute reports describing Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) data on contraceptive use in 20172 and 2019,3 this report uses data from the 2022 BRFSS to provide an expanded set of state-level estimates of contraceptive use and preferences. In 2022, scientists at Guttmacher collaborated with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to modify existing questions and include additional questions in the BRFSS family planning module. The resulting data set allows analysis not only of people’s primary contraceptive method use but also of multiple method use, overall contraceptive preferences and method-specific contraceptive preferences. Data collection for the 2022 BRFSS occurred during a pivotal time for reproductive health and rights due to the US Supreme Court’s June 2022 ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned the federal right to abortion. A wave of restrictive state laws and policies have followed, and as legislation concerning sexual and reproductive health care becomes increasingly politicized, state-level policies are key determinants of the quality and accessibility of contraceptive care.4 In this environment, state-level data, especially on person-centered measures of contraceptive preferences, are of paramount importance in understanding how shifts in reproductive health policy and service delivery are felt in the population. This report finds that contraceptive use is high across all reporting jurisdictions, but there is considerable variation in whether people are realizing preferences for which contraceptives they use or whether to use at all. People who report having used a method that requires some interaction with a provider, for example, are more likely than people using exclusively provider-independent or over-the-counter methods to report their current method as their preferred method of contraception. Throughout this report, we will explore how patterns of contraceptive use and preferences vary by type of method or combination of methods and jurisdiction. Given the elevated barriers to contraception that young people have historically experienced,5,6 we also highlight differences between two age-groups (18–24 and 25–49) where possible.*

Microelectronics is a complex field with ever-evolving technologies and business needs, fueled by decades of continued fundamental materials science and engineering advancement. Decades of dimensional scaling have led to the point where even the name microelectronics inadequately describes the field, as most modern devices operate on the nanometer scale. As we reach physical limits and seek more efficient ways for computing, research in new materials may offer alternative design approaches that involve much more than electron transport e.g. photonics, spintronics, topological materials, and a variety of exotic quasi-particles. New engineering processes and capabilities offer the means to take advantage of new materials designs e.g. 3D integration, atomic scale fabrication processes and metrologies, digital twins for semiconductor processes and microarchitectures. The wide range of potential technological approaches provides both opportunities and challenges. The Materials, Processes, and R and D Challenges in Microelectronics Future Directions workshop was held June 23-24, 2022, at the Basic Research Innovation Collaboration Center in Arlington, VA, to examine these opportunities and challenges. Sponsored by the Basic Research Directorate of the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, it is intended as a resource for the S and T community including the broader federal funding community, federal laboratories, domestic industrial base, and academia.

1. In June 2012, at the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, our eight Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) delivered a joint statement Commitment to Sustainable Transport (hereafter the Rio+20 Commitment). The aim was to draw attention to the critical role that transport plays in sustainable development, and to make clear our commitment to increase support for more sustainable transport in developing countries. 2. Building on our collective history of support for transport, the Rio+20 Commitment outlined our expectation to provide more than $175 billion of loans and grants for transport in developing countries over the coming decade (2012-2022). Increasingly, this funding will support more sustainable transport projects transport that is accessible, affordable, efficient, financially sustainable, environmentally friendly, and safe. 3. In the second year of the Rio+20 Commitment (2013), our eight MDBs approved approximately $25 billion for transport projects. Combined with the $20 billion approved in the first year of our Commitment (2012), we are on target to meet our goal of $175 billion in support for more sustainable transport in developing countries over the ten-year commitment period. 4. This $25 billion in funding represented more than 200 approvals, including: 115 for roads; 39 for urban transport; 24 for rail; 13 for airports; 5 for inland waterway and maritime projects. 5. In addition, more than 90 technical assistance projects were approved. These efforts seek to support policy development, research, and capacity building efforts. 6. The Rio+20 Commitment includes a commitment to report annually on our sustainable transport-related lending. Under a common reporting framework, our institutions have made progress in assessing the sustainability of our transport lending, in economic, social and environmental terms. 7. For 2013, four of our eight MDBs have completed the assessment of the sustainability of their entire transport lending, up from two in the year before. Other MDBs have conducted sustainability assessments for a number of projects, in preparation for wider application in subsequent years. 8. 2015 marks several important milestones in international processes, which are directly relevant to sustainable transport. These include completion of the Post-2015 Development Agenda, the 21st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and the Second Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety to mark the mid-year of the United Nations Decade of Action on Road Safety. Our MDBs, in close coordination with our client countries and development partners, will work further in support of these processes.
