AbstractBibionid flies were sampled in grassland in Northern Ireland from 4 April to 13 June 1985 using water and sticky traps with a range of characteristics. Nearly 70 000 bibionids were taken, of which 89·5% were males. Bibio johannis (L.) accounted for 96% of the catch, the rest comprising Dilophus febrilis (L.) (3%) and D. femoratus Meigen (1%). Trapping was carried out adjacent to a hedgerow and in the centre of the field. Differences in the abundance of the flies at these two locations occurred for all three species. Yellow was the best colour for maximizing catches. Greater numbers of B. johannis (63%) were taken in water than sticky traps, but over 76% of Dilophus spp. were caught on the latter. Increasing the diameter of water traps tended to enlarge the catch (principally B. johannis), but catch per unit area was relatively constant. The height of sticky traps above the ground affected the catch of all three species, indicating different flight levels.

AbstractBulbothrix johannis is described as new to science. The species is morphologically similar to the South American Bulbothrix pseudofungicola Benatti & Marcelli but has wider lobes, laminal ciliate isidia which frequently develop into phyllidia, larger cilia and rhizines, and longer ascospores. This epiphytic species occurs fairly frequently in the cloud forests and montane thickets on Réunion Island (Mascarene archipelago). The comparison of B. johannis with morphologically and chemically similar species shows that several different African taxa are currently grouped under the widely used but problematic name B. suffixa (Stirt.) Hale.

Cette thèse de doctorat, réalisée sous la direction du professeur V. Zarini, consiste en un travail d'édition, de traduction et de commentaire du septième des huit livres d'une épopée latine de l'Antiquité tardive intulée la Johannide. Ce livre 7, en hexamètres dactyliques, a été composé par le grammaticus Flauius Cresconius C/Gorippus. Au livre 7 de la Johannide, véritable épopée à dimension historique et panégyrique du VIe siècle, qui rapporte, en huit livres, la tentative de reconquête byzantine de l'Afrique par le général Jean sous Justinien, sont contés les événements qui se sont déroulés entre l'été 547 et l'été 548, quand Jean essuya une lourde défaite et commença à préparer la victoire finale du livre suivant. Notre thèse, commencée en 2018, vise, à la suite de travaux concernant les autres livres de la Johannide depuis 1983, à proposer l'édition des 542 hexamètres du livre 7, leur traduction et leur commentaire, en mettant en lumière les enjeux historiques, politiques, idéologiques mais aussi littéraires de cette œuvre atypique, entre épopée virgilienne et carolingienne, à la croisée des genres.Il nous revenait de colliger les leçons du manuscrit Triuultianus (T) 686 ainsi que les conjectures des éditions préexistantes. Notre commentaire rend compte de nos choix d'ecdotique et les justifie. Nous avons réalisé la traduction de ce livre et nous expliquons la portée historique et politique de chaque vers. Puisque le texte est avant tout l'œuvre d'un poète, notre commentaire fait la part belle à la dimension littéraire voire métalittéraire des vers. Nous tentons de proposer une étude approfondie des remplois et réécritures dans les vers.En introduction, nous avons situé le livre 7 de la Johannide dans l'économie générale du poème. Nous avons rappelé les éléments biographiques concernant Corippe et ce qu'il convient de savoir sur cette épopée et sur son contexte de composition notamment. Nous précisons la dimension transitoire de ce livre, véritable seuil avant un finale codifié et attendu dans l'épopée, au livre 8. Cette idée est le fil conducteur de notre commentaire. Corippe ne cesse d'annoncer dans ce livre les succès futurs de l'armée de Jean, ce qui en fait un livre de morae, doté d'un grand intérêt dramatique. Nous expliquons que le thème de la renouatio imperii est très présent dans notre livre et nous étudions aussi sa macrostructure puis nous rappelons la portée historique du texte ainsi que la nature du témoignage de l'auteur, en insistant sur sa partialité.Notre introduction s'intéresse également à la portée politique, religieuse et idéologique du livre 7. Nous nous posons la question de savoir si les vers du poète comprennent de véritables citations bibliques ou seulement des motifs scripturaires ou de savoir quelle Bible Corippe fréquentait. Nous nous intéressons à la métaphysique et à la spiritualité dans le texte, où les Byzantins s'opposent aux Berbères dans le cadre d'une véritable « guerre sainte », prémices d'une croisade. Nous expliquons aussi que ce livre transitoire, avant la victoire du livre 8, devient au fil des vers un espace nécessairement purgatoire. Nous mentionnons aussi la figure de Verecundus et la querelle des « Trois Chapitres », certains vers nous permettant d'établir des liens plus étroits entre la Johannide et l'œuvre de Verecundus, autour d'un motif commun, celui des larmes. Nous mettons en évidence le rôle cathartique des larmes au livre 7. Nous décrivons la typologie littéraire du livre et nous nous intéressons ensuite à l'ethos du poète et à sa réflexion métalittéraire. Nous décrivons le livre 7 comme un lieu de liberté où le poète pose les fondements de "son manifeste poétique". Nous étudions enfin la langue et le style de Corippe, qui relie poésie et arts figurés au livre 7
This PdD Thesis, carried out under the direction of Professor V. Zarini, consists of an edition, translation, and commentary on the seventh of eight books of a Latin epic from Late Antiquity called the Iohannis. This book 7, in dactylic hexameters, was composed by the grammaticus Flauius Cresconius C/Gorippus. In book 7 of the Iohannis, a true epic with a historical and panegyric dimension from the 6th century, which reports in eight books the attempted Byzantine reconquest of Africa by General John under Justinian, are related the events which took place between the summer of 547 and the summer of 548, when John suffered a heavy defeat and began to prepare for the final victory of the next book. Our work, started in 2018, aims, following work concerning the other books of the Iohannis since 1983, to propose the edition of the 542 hexameters of book 7, their translation and their commentary, highlighting the historical, political, ideological but also literary issues of this atypical work, between Virgilian and Carolingian epic, at the crossroads of genres.It was up to us to collect the lessons of the manuscript Triuultianus (T) 686 as well as the conjectures of pre-existing editions. Our commentary accounts for our ecdotal choices and justifies them. We have translated this book and explain the historical and political significance of each verse. Since the text is first the work of a poet, our commentary gives pride of place to the literary and even metaliterary dimension of the verses. We attempt to offer an in-depth study of reuses and rewritings of the verses.In the introduction, we located book 7 of the Iohannis in the general economy of the poem. We recalled the biographical elements regarding Corippus and what it is important to know about this epic and its context of composition. We specified the transitional dimension of this book, a real threshold before a codified and expected finale in the epic, in book 8. This idea is the common thread of our commentary. Corippus continues to announce in this book the future successes of John's army, which makes it a book of morae, with great dramatic interest. We explained that the theme of renouatio imperii is very present in our book and we also studied its macrostructure. Then we recalled the historical scope of the text as well as the nature of the author's testimony, emphasizing its partiality.Our introduction also focussed on the political, religious, and ideological scope of book 7. We asked ourselves the question of whether the poet's verses include real biblical quotations or only scriptural motifs or the question of knowing which Bible Corippus frequented. We are interested in the metaphysics and spirituality in the text, where the Byzantines oppose the Berbers in the context of a true “holy war”, the premises of a crusade. We also explained that this transitional book, before the victory of book 8, becomes over the course of the verses a necessarily purgatory space. We also mentioned the figure of Verecundus and the quarrel of the “Three Chapters”, certain verses allowing us to establish closer links between the Iohannis and the work of Verecundus, around the common motif of tears. We highlighted the cathartic role of tears in book 7. We studied the literary typology of the book and then focussed on the poet's ethos and his metaliterary reflection. We described book 7 as a place of freedom where the poet lays the foundations of "his poetic manifesto". We finally studied the language and style of Corippus, who connects poetry and figurative arts in book 7

Différents extraits ont été préparés à partir de racines de H. johannis et différents tests biologiques ont été appliqués en vue de rechercher différentes activités. L'extrait aqueux s'est montré particulièrement actif sur Enterococcus fecalis, Staphylococcus aureus et Bacillus. Les extraits aqueux dépourvus de tanins et les tanins isolés ne présentent pas d'activité antibactérienne. L'effet synergétique des composés serait donc responsable de l'activité antibactérienne de la plante. Une activité antifongique sur Microsporum canis, une propriété antiradicalaire et une activité antiglycation ont été constatées avec les deux extraits. Une étude toxicologique de la poudre de plante et de l'extrait éthanolique sur des rats révèle une toxicité au niveau du foie et de la rate. Cinq composés ont été isolés puis identifiés. Il s'agit de 3',4',5-Trihydroxy-6,7-diméthoxyflavone ; 3,5-Dihydroxy-4,7-diméthoxy dihydroflavonol, Catéchine, Vanilline et l'acide Protocatechuic. Du stigmastérol, de l'acide oléique, de l'acide myristique et de l'acide palmitique ont été également identifiés. Le travail sur C. lanatus var. citroides a montré que l'extrait méthanolique (70%) des pulpes de fruits possède une activité contre B. subtilis, S. aureus et E. coli. Les extraits butanolique et à l'acétate d'éthyle ne sont pas toxiques contre les larves de crevettes. L'extrait butanolique possède une propriété significative antiradicalaire. Deux composés ont été isolés et identifiés. Ce sont la Cucurbitacine E 2-O-[bêta]-glucopyranoside et la Cucurbitacine L 2-O-[bêta]-glucopyranoside. Ces composés montrent une activité antibacterienne contre E. coli. La Cucurbitacine L 2-O-[bêta]-glucopyranoside possède une activité antibactérienne contre P. aeruginosa et une propriété modérée anti-radicaux libres
Different extracts were prepared from the roots of H. johannis and different biological tests were performed. Water extract exhibited significant activity against Enterococcus fecalis, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus. Water extract devoid from tannin or the tannin fraction did not show any antibacterial activity reflecting the synergistic property of active compounds. Both extracts showed antifungal, antiradical capacity as well as antiglycation activity. Toxicological study of the powder and ethanol extract on rats showed toxicity to the liver and kidney tissues. Five compounds were isolated namely; 3,4,5- Trihydroxy- 6,7-dimethoxy flavone ; 3,5-Dihydroxy- 4,7- dimethoxy dihydroflavonol, Catechin, Vanillin and Protocatechuic acid. Stigmasterol, Oleic acid, Myristic acid and Palmitic acid were also identified. A study on the fruit pulps of C. lanatus var. citroides revealed that the methanolic extract displayed an antibacterial activity against B. subtilis, S. aureus and E. coli. The butanolic extract showed antiradical capacity and was not toxic to brine shrimps larvae. Two compounds were isolated namely; Cucurbitacine E 2-O-[bêta]-glucopyranoside and Cucurbitacine L 2-O- [bêta] -glucopyranoside. Both compounds showed antibacterial activity against E.coli whereas, Cucurbitacine L 2-O-[bêta]-glucopyranoside showed antibacterial activity against P. aeruginosa as well as antiradical activity

Анотація:
This article presents some of the earliest rock art documentation known from northern Europe. Johannes Haquini Rhezelius produced it on an antiquarian journey to Öland and Småland in 1634. Compared with the Norwegian Peder Alfsøn’s documentation from seven years previously in northern Bohuslän, then a part of Norway, there are differences and similarities. Both men drew by eye with ink, Alfsøn then embellishing his images with watercolours. Neither used any scalemeasurements. Rhezelius's informants did not seem to preserve any pre-Christian ideas about figurative rock art. They associated it with legends and stories sprung fromaChristian culture;with giants, maidens and church-burglars. Folklore associated cupmarks with elfs.

The purpose of the article is to show the process of formatting a new kind of linguistics, a contribution by A. Schlözer and I. S. Vater of their version of modern linguistics based on the Samoyed (Nenets) language research. The article demonstrates the way the researchers have arrived at their conclusions through careful selection of sources, both published and archived. The 18th century, the “age of systematics”, complete with a new division of sciences, arrived at the transformation of ethnography and linguistics into independent disciplines. Those were prerequisites for the emergence of comparative- historical linguistics. Using the Samoyed language studies as an example, the article examines Schlözer and Vater’s solution of the problems arising in identifying linguistic kinship: the lack of grammatical descriptions and the difficulties of reliable fixation of a non-written language. The works by Vater are the most significant precursors for the first grammar of the Samoyed language, i. e. The Samoyed Grammar by M. Castrén (1854). Schlözer insisted that the Samoyeds were an independent people, and that the section of his Northern History devoted to their community was a traditional comprehensive description of history, geography, customs, and language. The author determines the place of the Samoyed language among the neighboring peoples, critically analyzing the sources while offering a thematic Latin-Samoyed dictionary. Schlözer’s materials were later referred to in the Comparative Dictionaries… by P. S. Pallas. I. S. Vater, realizing the need for a new classification of sciences, headed the department of ethnography and linguistics, thus re-defining the object of linguistics. Regularly addressing the Samoyed language, as well as publishing texts, dictionaries and grammar notes in it, both addressing his informants and actively cooperating with the international academic community, Vater placed the Samoyed language into a rich academic context. The activities of the conscientious and impartial authors in their particular academic field demonstrates a long process of introducing their new information into circulation, together with changes of visual description: from a mixed description (by Schlözer) to the distinction between ethnography and linguistics (Vater). Gutes wissenschaftliches Arbeiten: Wieso? Weshalb? Warum? Ein Universitätsstudium bedeutet vielfach Selbststudium: eigenständiges Recherchieren und Aufbereiten von Informationen sowie die Vermittlung dieser Informationen und gegebenenfalls eigener Erkenntnisse in schriftlicher oder mündlicher Form. Der vorliegende Leitfaden bietet dabei eine Hilfestellung. Zum einen werden Tipps für ein effizientes und erfolgreiches Studium vorgestellt und zum anderen formale Anforderungen an gutes wissenschaftliches Arbeiten erläutert und begründet. Viele der vorgestellten Techniken und Methoden werden Sie auch bei Praktika, ehrenamtlichen Tätigkeiten oder im Berufsleben nutzen können. Der erste Teil widmet sich der Recherche. Die Literatur- und Quellensuche ist eine Voraussetzung für jede wissenschaftliche Arbeit. Ziel ist es, relevante Literatur und (Daten-)Quellen für die Bearbeitung einer Fragestellung im vorgegebenen zeitlichen Rahmen möglichst vollständig zu erfassen. Anschließend müssen aus den verfügbaren Informationen diejenigen ausgewählt werden, die sowohl hinsichtlich ihrer Qualität als auch ihrer inhaltlichen Bedeutung für das eigene Thema besonders wichtig sind und daher intensiver bearbeitet werden sollen. Sie finden in diesem Teil Antworten auf Fragen wie die folgenden: • Wann nutze ich Lehrbücher, wann wissenschaftliche Aufsätze? • Wie grenze ich meine Literatur- und Datensuche ein? • Welche Hilfen bietet das Internet? Im Anschluss an die Recherche und Aufbereitung der Materialien folgt die Erstellung von Texten in Form von Protokollen, Hausarbeiten, Referaten, Projektberichten oder einer Abschlussarbeit. Wie immer gilt auch in diesem Fall: Das Wissen, das man im Kopf hat, ist „Schall und Rauch“, wenn man es nicht vernünftig zu Papier bringen oder im Vortrag vermitteln kann. Der oft gehörte Satz „Ich habe eigentlich alles gewusst und konnte es ‚nur‘ nicht rüberbringen“ ist absurd, denn nichts von dem, was Sie nicht kommunizieren können – schriftlich oder mündlich (s. u.) – kann Gegenstand einer Auseinandersetzung, einer Diskussion oder einer Bewertung sein. Der zweite Teil dieses Leitfadens widmet sich daher der Frage, wie man Wissen schriftlich kommuniziert. Dafür gibt es zum einen formale Regeln, die es einzuhalten gilt (Zitierweisen, Gliederungssystematik, Umgang mit Abbildungen etc.), und zum anderen Konventionen, die eine gute schriftliche Arbeit erfüllen muss: Gibt es eine Fragestellung und wird diese stringent hergeleitet? Gibt es einen roten Faden und wird dieser über die ganze Arbeit verfolgt? Werden theoretische Überlegungen sinnvoll mit empirischen Arbeiten verknüpft? Qualitätsstandards, die Sie bei jeder Beurteilung eines Lehrbuches oder einer wissenschaftlichen Arbeit zu Grunde legen und die Sie ebenso auch von Ihren eigenen Arbeiten fordern sollten. Gespräche mit Geographinnen und Geographen, die in der Wirtschaft oder bei öffentlichen Einrichtungen arbeiten, zeigen stets eines ganz deutlich: Bei der Frage, ob man sich bei Einstellungsgesprächen für oder gegen eine Bewerberin oder einen Bewerber entscheidet, kommt es erst in zweiter Linie auf die fachlichen Qualifikationen an. Diese werden eigentlich vorausgesetzt. Sie sind die Hürde, die man schon bei der schriftlichen Bewerbung nehmen muss. Geographisches Know-how und thematische Spezialisierungen entscheiden also darüber, ob man eingeladen wird oder nicht, nicht aber, ob man den Job letztlich bekommt. Hierfür sind die „soft skills“ entscheidend: Passen die Kandidaten ins Team, können sie sich gut verkaufen, wirken sie souverän? Kurz: Ob man detailliert darüber Bescheid weiß, wie z. B. Stadtmarketing funktioniert, ist nur dann relevant, wenn man dieses Wissen auch vermitteln kann. Der dritte Teil des Leitfadens widmet sich deshalb genau diesen Fragen des „Präsentierens“. Denn wo kann man dies besser lernen als in einem Seminar oder auf einer Exkursion: Wie strukturiere ich einen Kurzvortrag prägnant und spannend (Beispiel Bewerbung: „Erzählen Sie mal in fünf Minuten, was Sie in Ihrem Studium gemacht haben“), wie gliedere ich einen längeren Vortrag, wie gestalte ich einen Exkursionsblock und wie setze ich sinnvoll didaktische Hilfsmittel der Visualisierung ein? Dieser Leitfaden hilft Ihnen bei der Bewältigung Ihres Studiums. Changes in nature visitation and the potential of mobile big data for visitor monitoring -työpaja järjestettiin Helsingissä 28.9.2023. Työpaja toteutettiin osana Koneen Säätiön rahoittamaa viisivuotista MOBICON-tutkimushanketta (Mobile Big Data for Understanding People in Nature - Detecting short and long term changes and their implications for biodiversity conservation). Työpajan tavoitteena oli kartoittaa asiantuntijoiden kanssa luonnon virkistyskäytön muutoksia, seurannan tietotarpeita, sekä pohtia erilaisten uusien tietolähteiden mahdollisuuksia näihin tietotarpeisiin vastaamiseen. Paikalla oli kahdeksan luonnon virkistyskäytön asiantuntijaa eri organisaatioista (Metsähallitus, Helsingin kaupunki, Uudenmaan virkistysalueyhdistys Uuvi ja Suomen Latu r.y.). Heille oli ennakkoon lähetetty kysely päivän teemoista. Keskustelu eteni kyselyn tuloksista syvällisempään keskusteluun aihealueittain. Alla käymme aihealueitten keskeiset tulokset läpi teemoittain. Luonnon virkistyskäytön nähtiin olevan muutoksessa. Virkistyskäyttö yhtäältä lisääntyy ja sen ajalliset rytmit muuttuvat. Toisaalta kävijäkunta monimuotoistuu yleisen yhteiskunnan monimuotoistumisen seurauksena ja uudenlaisten ihmisten löytäessä luonnon äärelle. Myös aktiviteetit ja tavat olla luonnossa moninaistuvat. Keskustelussa muutoksia lähestyttiin neljän megatrendin kautta (yhteiskunnalliset, ympäristölliset, poliittiset ja teknologiset muutokset). Näistä yhteiskunnalliset ja ympäristölliset muutosajurit nähtiin tärkeimmiksi. Yhteiskunnallisissa muutoksissa tunnistettiin erityisesti ikääntymisen ja luontokävijöiden moninaistumisen tuoma muutos. Ympäristöllisistä tekijöistä ilmastonmuutos oli ilman muuta merkityksellisin, sekä luontoa, että ihmisten toimintaa muuttavana tekijänä. Poliittisista muutosajureista keskustelussa nousi esiin yhteiskunnan polarisaation lisääntyminen. Toisaalta jokaisenoikeuksiin, biodiversiteetin suojeluun ja virkistyskäyttöön ohjattaviin resursseihin liittyvät poliittiset päätökset nähtiin tärkeinä. Teknologiset muutokset nähtiin osana laajempaa teknologistumista. Yhtäältä yleinen teknologisoituminen lisää mahdollisuuksia tiedonsaantiin ja -jakoon. Toisaalta terveyteen ja liikkumiseen liittyvä mittauskulttuuri vaikuttaa myös virkistyskäytön määriin, kun ihmiset tavoittelevat askel-tai kilometritavoitteitaan yhä enemmän luonnossa. Organisaatioiden tietotarpeista todettiin, että tietoa tarvitaan yhtäältä virkistyskäytön kehittämiseen ja toisaalta oman toiminnan perustelemiseen ja kolmanneksi käyttäjien informointiin. Lisää tietoa kaivattiin kävijävirroista ja niiden alueellisesta ja ajallisesta jakautumisesta. Toisaalta tieto kävijöistä itsestään nähtiin tarpeelliseksi erityisesti kävijäkunnan monipuolistuessa. Huolta kannettiin myös niistä, jotka eivät käy virkistysalueilla: miten saada paremmin tietoa heistä sekä mahdollista käyntiä rajoittavista tekijöistä. Kävijätiedon keruu nähtiin kalliina ja aikaa vievänä, ja siksi ja uudenlaisten datalähteiden löytäminen nähtiin hyödylliseksi. Mobiilidata arvioitiin kiinnostavaksi tietolähteeksi ja sen eri puolia pohdiskeltiin SWOT-analyysin kautta. Selvää kuitenkin oli, että operatiivisessa käytössä tiedon tulee olla luotettavaa ja helposti saatavilla. Mobiilidatan osalta juuri pitkäkestoinen saatavuus pohditutti osallistujia. The Changes in Nature Visitation and the Potential of Mobile Big Data for Visitor Monitoring workshop was held in Helsinki on 28.9.2023. We organized the workshop as part of the five-year MOBICON research project (Mobile Big Data for Understanding People in Nature - Detecting short- and long-term changes and their implications for biodiversity conservation) funded by Kone Foundation. The aim of the workshop was to collect expert opinions related to the changes in the recreational use of nature, the monitoring needs related to the changing visitations, and to discuss the possibilities of various new data sources to meet managerial information needs. Eight experts from different organisations (Metsähallitus, City of Helsinki, Uusimaa Recreation Area Association Uuvi and Suomen Latu r.y.) participated in the event. Prior to the workshop, the participants had answered a survey about their experiences and information needs related to the changing visitations. The discussion progressed from the results of the survey to more in-depth discussions. Below we summarize the key results from the discussions. The recreational use of nature was seen to be changing. Recreational use is increasing and its temporal rhythms are changing. At the same time, the visitor base becomes more diverse because of the general diversification of society and the fact that new user-groups have started to explore nature. Activities and ways of being in nature are also diversifying. Approaching the changes through four megatrends (social, environmental, political and technological changes). The social and environmental drivers of change were seen as the most important. social changes were identified to be related to the ageing of the population and the diversification of nature visitors. Climate change, as an environmental factor, was identified as the most important driver of change, impacting both nature but also human behaviour. Among the political drivers of change, particularly the increasing polarisation of society emerged in the discussion. In addition, political decisions relating to everyone's rights, biodiversity protection and resources directed for the management of recreational areas were seen as important. Technological changes were identified as important and this change taking place as part of the broader technologization of society. On the one hand, this general technologization increases the opportunities for access to and sharing of information. On the other hand, the increased ‘measurement culture’ also affects the amounts of recreational use, as people are aiming to reach their kilometer or step targets. The information needs of organisations were recognized to include 1) planning of management actions, 2) justifying one's own activities for securing funding and 3) informing visitors. Information is needed on visitor flows and their spatial and temporal distribution. In addition, information about the visitors themselves was considered necessary, especially as the visitor base is becoming more diverse. The workshop participants also expressed concern about those who do not visit recreational areas: how get more information about them and the factors that limit nature visits. Collecting visitor data was seen as expensive and time-consuming, which is why finding new kinds of data sources has potential. Mobile data was evaluated as an interesting source of information and its various aspects were discussed through a SWOT analysis. However, it was clear that in operational use, information must be reliable and easily accessible and some doubts were raised on the potential of mobile big data from this aspect.
