In 2019, the Saudi Pharmacist Licensure Examination (SPLE) was first administered to all pharmacy graduates and served as one of the prerequisites for obtaining a pharmacist license. The objective of this study was to evaluate whether institution and applicant characteristics are associated with first-time SPLE success. Passing status for 2284 SPLE first-time applicants was obtained from online public data for the years 2019 and 2020. The data included applicant sex, institution type (public vs. private), and college establishment year (2006 or earlier vs. after 2006). Overall, the SPLE first-time pass rate in 2020 was significantly higher than in 2019 (98.0 vs. 95.9%; p = 0.0062). Applicants from pharmacy colleges established in or before 2006 had a higher SPLE first-time pass rate, compared to those from pharmacy colleges established after 2006 (98.2 vs. 95.2%; p < 0.0001). The pass rate for male applicants was lower compared to female applicants (95.8 vs. 97.5%; p = 0.0221). The results of logistic regression showed that exam year (2020 vs. 2019), applicant sex (female vs. male), and pharmacy college establishment year (≤2006 vs. >2006) were statistically significant predictors. Further studies are needed in the upcoming years when more cumulative data are available.

What do we really know about applicants to graduate school? How much information is in an applicant's file? What do we learn by having graduate admissions committees read and score applicant files? In this article, I develop a statistical model for measuring applicant quality, combining the information in the committee members' ordinal ratings with the information in applicants' GRE scores. The model produces estimates of applicant quality purged of the influence of committee members' preferences over ostensibly extraneous applicant characteristics, such as gender and intended field of study. An explicitly Bayesian approach is adopted for estimation and inference, making it straightforward to obtain confidence intervals not only on latent applicant quality but over rank orderings of applicants and the probability of belonging in a set of likely admittees. Using data from applications to a highly ranked political science graduate program, I show that there is considerable uncertainty in estimates of applicant quality, making it impossible to make authoritative distinctions as to quality among large portions of the applicant pool. The multiple rater model I develop here is extremely flexible and has applications in fields as diverse as judicial politics, legislative politics, international relations, and public opinion.

The hypothesis that the sex composition of an applicant pool affects the hiring probabilities of individual job applicants was tested using gender-distinctive information on accepted and rejected job applicants in The Netherlands. The evidence supports this hypothesis, although the effect sizes are moderate. Both men and women have a lower probability of being hired when the applicant pool contains fewer applicants from their own sex.

ABSTRACT It is difficult to assess applicants' higher-order cognitive thinking skills during conventional resident interviews. Application metrics currently employed are useful indicators of academic and personal success in targeted areas, yet value of this information in predicting future clinical performance is limited.Background We developed an assessment tool to evaluate higher-order cognitive function in real time during anesthesiology resident applicant interviews.Objective During the 2014–2015 residency interview season, we integrated simulation training into applicant interviews to evaluate higher-order cognitive skills. Our 5-minute simulation emphasized the Team STEPPS 2-Challenge Rule and explored candidates' critical thinking, analytical decision making, and response to stress. Participating applicants were evaluated using an outcomes-based checklist targeting desired responses. We also sent applicants a post-National Resident Matching Program survey to assess their perceptions of the simulation's value and educational utility.Methods A total of 90 applicants (75% of all applicants) participated in the simulation, which taught residents about important patient safety concepts and provided the program with real time information about their critical thinking ability. All applicants were confident or very confident that they would both speak up and know what to say if they encountered a patient safety breach as a result of participating in this exercise. Simulation performance affected desirability status for 35% of participating applicants, where 23% of applicants ranked higher, and 12% ranked lower compared to baseline application status.Results Cognitive simulation training was useful in assessing resident applicant higher-order thinking skills and in helping stratify candidates in conjunction with standard application metrics.Conclusions

To examine architects' judgments of male and female applicants represented by the information in resumes, 204 architects, 156 men and 48 women, licensed in the state of Connecticut participated in a 2(job level) by 2(sex) between-subjects study. Architects were asked how they would rate applicants' potential (including the decision to hire) and gender-role characteristics judged on the basis of one-page resumes. Architects randomly assigned resumes for one of four evaluation conditions (intern or senior architect; male or female), rated the applicant on seven job-related characteristics, e.g., technical skill, potential for advancement, and completed the Bern Sex-role Inventory as they thought items applied to the applicant. Analysis indicated that male architect respondents were more likely to hire male applicants than female applicants as senior architects and that female applicants were judged to be as masculine-typed as were male applicants.

The objective is to maximize the probability of choosing the best available applicant. Two models are distinguished according to when the availability can be ascertained; the availability is ascertained just after the arrival of the applicant (Model 1), whereas the availability can be ascertained only when an offer is made (Model 2). For Model 1, we can obtain the explicit expressions for the optimal stopping rule and the optimal probability for a given n. A remarkable feature of this model is that, asymptotically (i.e. n→∞), the optimal probability becomes insensitive to q and approaches 0.580 164. The planar Poisson process (PPP) model provides more insight into this phenomenon. For Model 2, the optimal stopping rule depends on the past history in a complicated way and seems to be intractable. We have not solved this model for a finite n but derive, via the PPP approach, a lower bound on the asymptotically optimal probability.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate how HR professionals use social networking website information to evaluate applicants’ propensity to engage in counterproductive work behaviors and suitability for hire. Design/methodology/approach Using an experimental design, 354 HR professionals participated in a two-part study. In part 1, participants viewed a fictitious resume and rated the applicant’s likelihood to engage in counterproductive work behavior as well as likelihood of a hiring recommendation. In part 2, participants viewed a fictitious social networking website profile for the applicant and repeated the ratings from part 1. The authors analyzed their responses to determine the effect viewing a social network website (SNW) profile had on ratings of the applicant. Findings Unprofessional SNW information negatively affected ratings of applicants regardless of applicants’ qualifications, while professional SNW profile information failed to improve evaluations regardless of qualifications. Originality/value Anecdotal reports suggest that many employers use SNW information to eliminate job applicants from consideration despite an absence of empirical research that has examined how SNW content influences HR recruiters’ evaluation of job applicants. This study represents one of the first attempts to understand how HR professionals use such information in screening applicants. The findings suggest that unprofessional SNW profiles negatively influence recruiter evaluations while professional SNW profile content has little to no effect on evaluations.

La tesi, svolta per il completamento della Laurea Magistrale in Ingegneria Informatica, tratta la realizzazione di un progetto prototipo di Computer Vision (CV) e Realtà Aumentata (RA) per la manutenzione tecnica di macchinari industriali attraverso l'utilizzo di dispositivi mobili See-Through. Lo scopo è stato, oltre lo studio dello stato dell'arte in materia, provare con mano e rendere maggiormente visibili al pubblico questi nuovi rami dell'informatica. Il prototipo creato è stato inserito in un contesto aziendale, con misurazioni e prove sul campo. Partendo da una breve introduzione sulla realtà aumentata, nel primo capitolo viene descritto il progetto sviluppato, diviso in due sottoprogetti. Il primo, svolto solamente in una fase iniziale e presentato nel secondo capitolo, espone la realizzazione di un'applicazione mobile per lo streaming video con l'aggiunta di contenuti grafici aumentati. Il secondo, progettato e sviluppato in totale autonomia, rappresenta un prototipo demo di utilizzo della RA. La realizzazione viene illustrata nei capitoli successivi. Nel terzo capitolo si introducono gli strumenti che sono stati utilizzati per lo sviluppo dell'applicazione, in particolare Unity (per il development multi-piattaforma), Vuforia (per gli algoritmi di CV) e Blender (per la realizzazione di procedure di manutenzione). Il quarto capitolo, la parte più rilevante della trattazione, descrive, passo dopo passo, la creazione dei vari componenti, riassumendo in modo conciso e attraverso l'uso di figure i punti cardine. Infine, il quinto capitolo conclude il percorso realizzato presentando i risultati raggiunti e lasciando spunto per possibili miglioramenti ed aggiunte.

In particolare verranno analizzati i requisiti di MoK, un modello per la coordinazione di agenti software basato sulla distribuzione di informazioni in rete, e verranno isolate delle proprietà che possiamo ritenere adatte a risolvere le problematiche attaccate da tale modello, per poi ricercare determinati algoritmi, meccanismi e processi che dispongano di tali proprietà per soddisfare i requisiti di Mok.

In questa trattazione si è interessati a studiare e analizzare quali sono le reali funzionalità messe a disposizione da MindSphere, la piattaforma cloud per l’Industrial IoT sviluppata da Siemens, e successivamente sperimentare le potenzialità della sua infrastruttura in generale. In particolare, l'obiettivo è quello di approcciarsi allo sviluppo di una soluzione Edge Computing che si possa integrare con la piattaforma stessa, in modo tale da separare l’elaborazione dei dati sul cloud da quella svolta sui dispositivi edge. Tale soluzione potrebbe applicarsi ad un caso d’uso di interesse pratico, come ad esempio quello della Manutenzione Predittiva, per poter analizzare anche quali sono le reali implicazioni, i vantaggi e i risultati ottenuti con l’adozione di una soluzione di questo tipo in ambito enterprise.

La tecnologia blockchain, grazie alle sue caratteristiche di decentralizzazione, immutabilità, tracciabilità e sicurezza offre una serie di vantaggi e proprietà al settore turistico e dell’ospitalità, favorendone la crescita e lo sviluppo. Alcune implementazioni della tecnologia blockchain permettono l'esecuzione di smart contract, ovvero programmi eseguiti dai nodi della rete le cui operazioni sono transazioni della blockchain a tutti gli effetti. Essendo la blockchain un sistema isolato, è impossibile per uno smart contract comunicare con servizi o sistemi esterni. Si ricorre, dunque, all’utilizzano di oracoli, applicazioni che attingono informazioni da fonti affidabili e le iniettano nella blockchain. Utilizzando smart contract e oracoli si vuole studiare un sistema di decision making applicato al turismo. Lo scenario prevede che sia possibile effettuare prenotazioni nel settore alberghiero, le quali verranno confermate o rimborsate in base al meteo della zona di interesse. La logica di conferma o annullamento delle prenotazioni è in questo caso incapsulata nello smart contract, ottenendo così una validazione autonoma e non influenzabile esternamente. Analogamente, le informazioni sul meteo, utili per stabilire se un utente ha diritto o meno al rimborso, verranno fornite tramite un Oracolo per far sì che siano attendibili e disponibili allo smart contract. Verrà mostrato un esempio reale di applicazione sperimentale su piattaforma di smart tourism sul territorio nazionale.

La pianificazione e la gestione dei processi è diventata un elemento critico a causa della crescente complessità delle attività all’interno delle organizzazioni. Nell’era dell’impresa digitale, la gestione dei processi di businesss viene coadiuvata mediante l’utilizzo di sistemi software che sono in grado di gestire una grande quantità di informazioni ovvero i sistemi BPM. Il Business Performance Management è una disciplina gestionale che si occupa di descrivere e gestire i processi di business di una organizzazione. L’obiettivo della seguente tesi è verificare se il modello del processo realizzato precedentemente all’implementazione del sistema reale possa permettere una più dettagliata analisi del sistema e anticipare relative problematiche che talvolta si evincono solamente durante il mero sviluppo. Inoltre si vuole verificare se il modello realizzato in fase di discussione di un nuovo progetto cliente possa poi migliorare anche lo scambio di informazioni nel team di sviluppo. A supporto di questa tesi è stato sviluppato un caso di studio reale in una società di gestione del risparmio specializzata in fondi di investimento immobiliare. Inizialmente si è proceduto con una prima fase di raccolta dei requisiti dell’applicativo che si è conclusa con la realizzazione dei modelli creati utilizzando due linguaggi che sono il Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) e il Decision Model and Notation (DMN); il medesimo applicativo è stato successivamente implementato seguendo i modelli realizzati. I tempi globali di sviluppo del sistema e la migliore comprensione del modello da parte del team di sviluppo hanno fatto evincere l’utilità della modellazione a fronte di maggiori giornate uomo. Inoltre è stata riscontata maggiore manutenibilità complessiva del sistema.

This research aims at offering a survey about the historical and epistemological foundations and about the philosophical roots of juridical computer science. After the examination of the interdisciplinary birth of cybernetics, we make clear the estreme reductivism of that problematic interdisciplinary. In particolar, on the philosophical level, we aim to show the presence in cybernetics of identitary thought, i.e. of that very ancient thought which required the indifference of the entire being. On the juridical level, after examing the way in which legal reasoning is used in Expert Legal Systems, we talk about the problem of alorithmization of law, which is based on the algorithmic hypothesis of mind, according to which the mind works as an algotithm. Artificial Intelligence, the last and most important gain of cybernetics, showing itself able to translate theoretical-juridical conceptions in computational models of law, allows the measurement of juridical concepts and their structural reduction to computer science formalisms, allowing therefore the calculation of law. All this gives rise a lot of methodological problems to philosphers, and before them, to jurists.
La presente ricerca intende offrire una disamina sui fondamenti storico-epistemologici e sulle matrici filosofiche dell’informatica giuridica, in relazione alla sfida tecnologica (S. Cotta) lanciata dalla tecnologia informatica allo studio e alla risoluzione di questioni giuridiche. Ci si propone di sondare in profondità il terreno della c.d. giuscibernetica, mostrando come la forza e il fascino, ma anche le non poche criticità di quel programma epistemologico, si siano riversate nella disciplina oramai consolidata dell’informatica giuridica. Che la fruizione di strumenti informatici non sia soltanto un problema “tecnico”, ma investa prepotentemente campi propri della riflessione giuridica, è stato già ampiamente dimostrato; quello che ci si propone in questa sede di evidenziare è l’importanza, nello statuto epistemologico della giuscibernetica (e quindi della succedanea informatica giuridica decisionale) della matrice metafisica di quel pensiero in seno al quale è nata l’epistemologia algoritmica e della quale la macchina computante non è che l’ipostasi manifesta. Il prodigio elettronico è sì il risultato dell’evoluzione tecnologica della tecnica (E. Severino – N. Irti), ma è soprattutto la concreta dimostrazione della forza, tutt’altro che teorica, di un riduzionismo filosofico – tanto silente quanto non poco problematico – che ha assorbito gran parte degli sforzi teoretici e delle energie intellettuali dell’uomo moderno e postmoderno: un riduzionismo epistemologico che affonda le sue origini nel terreno della metafisica identitaria, cioè dalla metafisica del rifiuto del logos della differenza . Mi propongo dunque, sulla scorta di una ricerca che intende essere interdisciplinare, di dimostrare come la pretesa – auspicata da non pochi giuristi e suffragata dalle progressive evoluzioni dei programmi di Intelligenza Artificiale – della realizzazione di un modello cibernetico del diritto, a fronte degli immediati vantaggi in termini di legal inquiry, di judicial predicting e di judicial decision making, ponga problemi tutt’altro che trascurabili sia sul piano metodologico sia sul piano ontologico, andando a ridurre la complessità del fenomeno giuridico ad un sistema di mero calcolo. Si evidenzierà dunque come l’imperativo della razionalizzazione, evidente lascito epistemologico dell’imago mentis algoritmica, finisca per intaccare la natura del diritto e come il metodo giuridico, sempre più improntato ai canoni dell’efficienza algoritmica, finisca per essere progressivamente ridotto agli schemi delle scienze esatte. L’analisi verte quindi sui problemi posti dal sottaciuto tentativo dell’epistemologia giuridica algoritmica di ridisegnare l’ontologia del diritto, andando a configurare le nuove frontiere del diritto (P. Barcellona), ossia le frontiere del diritto artificiale (V. Frosini). Esaminata la nascita interdisciplinare della cibernetica, si fa luce sulla portata estremamente riduttivistica di quella problematica epistemologia. Viene evidenziato, in particolar modo, come la cifra ultima del programma cibernetico coincida con quella del pensiero identitario, la cui complessa trama verrà svolta, nel presente lavoro, con l’ausilio della filosofia teoretica, a partire dallo studio delle categorie metafisiche rivoluzionate e ripensate in chiave radicalmente identitaria. Ulteriormente, si affronta il problema giuscibernetico della c.d. algebrizzazione del diritto alla luce del “panlinguismo dell’identità”, ovvero alla luce di quel grandioso progetto di riforma logico-sintattico-semantica del linguaggio che, in ultima analisi, riposa sulla potentissima teoresi identitaria. Verrà quindi prestata particolare attenzione alla characteristica univeralis leibniziana, la quale costituisce un evidente paradigma protocibernetico di quel pensiero che, dall’ ars combinatoria di lulliana memoria all’algebra booleana, mira alla purificazione-formalizzazione-normalizzazione – in breve: alla “cibernetizzazione” – del linguaggio. Sul piano giuridico, dopo aver esaminato le modalità in cui si declina il legal reasoning che sta alla base dei sistemi esperti legali, si affronta la c.d. algoritmizzazione del diritto, evidenziando come l’ipotesi algoritmica della mente – secondo cui il pensiero umano si potrebbe (e secondo alcuni dovrebbe) ridurre ad algoritmo – domini il modello cibernetico del diritto. L’ I.A., l’ultimo e più lauto guadagno dell’epistemologia cibernetica, nella misura in cui si dimostra capace di tradurre le concezioni teorico-giuridiche in modelli computazionali del diritto, consente la misurazione dei concetti giuridici e la loro strutturazione in formalismi informatici, permettendo quindi il calcolo del giuridico, aspirazione di quella ragione algoritmica che affonda le proprie radici in terreni ontologici, e che pone non pochi interrogativi, in primis metodologici, ai filosofi e ancor prima ai giuristi.

Uno studio per la ricerca di componenti genetiche di malattie complesse richiede, al giorno d’oggi, la caratterizzazione di migliaia di individui per centinaia di migliaia di marcatori. Gli studi di associazione caso-controllo necessitano della presenza di individui non imparentati tra loro per stimare correttamente la frequenza allelica. La presenza di parentele non rilevate potrebbe confondere la stima di tali frequenze in casi e/o nei controlli e portare il ricercatore a descrivere associazioni tra genotipo e fenotipo errate. Al fine di identificare se nel gruppo studiato sono presenti coppie di individui aventi un possibile grado di parentela, non identificato nella fase di raccolta del campione, abbiamo sviluppato una procedura in silico che compara la probabilit`a di parentela rispetto alla probabilit`a di non parentela tra due individui condizionata al genotipo. I casi testati sono i pi`u comuni: I grado (padre-figlio e coppia di fratelli) e II grado (zio-nipote e nonno-nipote). Lo studio mostra come il linkage disequilibrium tra i marcatori diminuisca l’informativit`a dei marcatori stessi nei test di parentela. Ad esempio, per supportare l’ipotesi di una parentela di II grado con un potere del 80% ed un rate di falsi positivi del 5% necessitano: 100 SNP indipendenti tra loro o 275 SNP organizzati a blocchi di 5 SNP in linkage disequilibrium con un r2 0:4 e fase sconosciuta. Tuttavia, ricostruire probabilisticamente la fase degli aplotipi aumenta l’informativit`a dei marcatori a disposizione. Ad esempio, per supportare l’ipotesi suddetta con aplotipi a fase ricostruita necessitano: 20 aplotipi (100 SNP a blocchi di 5 con r2 0:4) o 40 aplotipi (200 SNP a blocchi di 5 con r2 0:8).

Transcriptome analysis by total mRNA profiling provides a measurement of the degree of variation for the amount of each single mRNA species after a physiological or pathological transition of cell state. It has become a general notion that variations in protein levels do not necessarily correlate with variations in total mRNA levels, for the presence of post-transcriptional controls which influence the fate of cytoplasmic mRNAs and affect their translational fitness. Nevertheless, the extent of this phenomenon and the rules, if any, governing it are still generally unknown. To address this issue we took advantage of a number of studies performed using polysomal mRNA profiling in combination with classical total mRNA profiling in different mammalian and yeast systems. A normalization of the raw data coming from these datasets and a statistical meta-analysis aimed at maximizing uniformity in data processing have been performed. From the comparison of the results an extensive uncoupling between transcriptome and translatome variations of mRNA levels emerges, measured by a significant difference between steady state and polysomal fold changes induced by a cellular physiological or pathological transition. It seems clear that virtually the majority of significant changes in cytoplasmic mRNA steady-state levels are subjected to a further elaboration by a post-transcriptional decision program, leading either to a widespread buffering of the cytoplasmic changes which transfers only a small fraction of them to translation, either to the creation of new changes which cannot be detected at the transcriptional level, yet capable of heavily influencing protein synthesis rates. An explanatory model characterized by a cytoplasmic mRNA storage compartments is proposed and the involvement of P-bodies and the miRNA pathway in post-transcriptional reprogramming of gene expression has been experimentally tested in the biological model of EGF induction, in order to explain how a change in translational fitness can counteract or magnify a parallel change in citoplasmic mRNA availability. To investigate the role of specific cellular mechanism in generating uncoupling between transcriptome and translatome changes, the experimental model has been altered through silencing of three key genes involved in post-transcriptional regulation pathways: 4E-T, Xrn1 and Dicer.

Biological studies on in vitro cell cultures are of fundamental importance for investigating cell response to external stimuli, such drugs for specific treatments, or for studying communication between cells. In the electrophysiology field, multielectrode array devices (MEA) are the gold standard for the study of large ensambles of electrogenic cells. Thus, their improvement is a central topic nowadays in neuroscience and cardiology [1]. In the last decades, thanks to the adoption of nanotechnologies, the study of physiological and pathological conditions of electro-active cells in culture have becomes increasingly accurate[2], allowing for monitoring action potentials from many cells simultaneously. In fact, nanoscale biomaterials were able to overcome the limitations of previous technologies, paving the way to the development of platforms for interfacing the electrogenic cells at unprecedented spatiotemporal scales. These devices, together with microfluidics, are starting to be used for drug screening and pharmaceutical drug development since they represent a powerful tool for monitoring cell response when cultures are stimulated by target compounds. Many pharmaceutical agents, however, including various large molecules (enzymes, proteins, antibodies) and even drug-loaded pharmaceutical nanocarriers, need to be delivered intracellularly to exercise their therapeutic action inside the cytoplasm[3]. Nanoscale electrodes offer individual cell access and non-destructive poration of the cellular membrane enabling high capability in the delivery of biomolecules. Among all the techniques, electroporation have proven encouraging potential as alternative to the carrier mediated methods for molecular delivery into cultured cells[4]. In this regard, different groups [5][6][7] exploited the integration of nanostructures with delivering capabilities with single-cell specificity and high throughput in biosensing platforms. These efforts provided powerful tools for advancing applications in therapeutics, diagnostics, and drug discovery, in order to reach an efficient and localized delivery on a chip. Despite these new tactics, there is still a critical need for the development of a functional approach that combines recording capabilities of nanostructured biosensors with intracellular delivery. The device should provide for tight contact between cells and electrode so as to enable highly localized delivery and optimal recording of action potentials in order to attain a high degree of prediction for the disease modeling and drug discovery. This “on-chip” approach will help to gain deeper insight in several bio-related studies and analyses, providing a comprehensive knowledge of the entire cellular dynamics when selectively stimulated by the desired bio-molecules. In the first part of this dissertation, a solution will be proposed in order to fill this gap and respond to this need in the biology field. In the first chapter, I will describe briefly the principles of action potentials and how neurons and cardiomyocyte are composed, together with the development of electrophysiology and the advent of multielectrode arrays. In the second chapter, more details about fabrication and cell-electrode system modelling will be explained. In the same chapter, I will explore the development of multielectrode arrays up to the present days, along with the advent of nanotechnologies and the related techniques for improving the previous platforms. The different cell poration techniques will be described in order to reach the best recording capabilities without damaging cells. Electroporation, optoporation and spontaneous poration will be presented and the chosen technique for our application (electroporation) will be reviewed more in detail. In the third chapter, different methodologies for intracellular delivery will be explained, focusing also on the electroporation technique. A small paragraph about the integration of these techniques on chip will be inserted to illustrate the state of the art of these devices. The fourth chapter will explicate in details the Microfluidic multielectrode array idea, the approach used in order to fabricate this novel platform from scratch, the experiments carried out to verify its capabilities and the associated results. In the last paragraph, I will discuss how the proposed platform could became suitable for the day to day uses in research activity by employing nanoporous materials. In fact, big efforts are carried out in order to find appropriate metamaterials as substitutes of the 3D counterparts so as to decrease the cost of device manufacturing that makes them unfitting with research activity. As a novel electrode material, nanoporous metals possess unique properties, such as a low fabrication cost, high plasmonic enhancement and large surface-volume ratio[8]. Nanoporous gold behaves like a metamaterial whose effective dielectric response can be tuned accordingly to the wanted use. These properties make the material suitable for multiple biosensing application, from a high-performance and reliable SERS (surface enhanced raman scattering) substrate [9] to an electrode in CMOS MEAs capable of intracellular recordings[10]. All these properties were explored in the last years, but it could be interesting to further study if the characteristics of this material could make it a good photoelectrical modulating material for eliciting electrogenic cells firing activity. In this way, this technology could be in principle easily implemented on commercial CMOS devices, consenting stimulation and recording at single cell level with high-resolution sensors, opening the way to new methodologies for studying electrogenic cells and tissues. Electrical stimulation of excitable cells is the basis for many implantable devices in cardiac treatment and in neurological studies for treating debilitating neurological syndromes. In order to make the technique less invasive, optical stimulation was widely investigated [11]. The non-genetic photostimulation is starting to make its way in the field since it allows to avoid changing the biological framework by using transient thermal or electrochemical outputs from synthetic materials attached to the target cells[12]. If stimulated with impinging light these materials could inject free charges into the solution resulting in an ionic current at the interface able to eliciting of neurons[13] or cardiomyocyte action potentials. Plasmonic porous materials have all the suitable properties to be considered as an appealing tools for charge injection and consequently for stimulation of electrically active cells [14]. Thus, the second part of this dissertation will exploit the capabilities of these plasmonic metamaterials, placing particular emphasis on the possibility of photoelectrochemical modulation. In particular, in the fifth and last chapter I will describe all the properties and application of the porous material and the mechanism of photoemission. In the experimental paragraphs, the free charge photoemission properties of porous gold will be explored together with plasmonic non-genetic photostimulation of the cardiac cells on commercial CMOS MEAs.

AbstractThis paper describes the design of a simulator (work in progress), that is based on Norwegian university admissions and exam data. It generates a realistic population of applicants to university programs, their preferences and study outcomes if they were admitted to the different study programs. This simulator is a versatile tool and can be used to analyse the current admission policy for Norwegian universities in terms of many fairness criteria that, e.g., take into account student preferences, gender balance, university preferences and study outcomes. More generally, it creates a benchmark for testing matching algorithms and fairness notions without revealing sensitive data.

In 2019, the Czech society overcame a regular decrease in the number of university applicants, where the number of teenage potential applicants reached its minimum and began to go up again the following year. However, even this fact did not ease the pressure on rational education spendings. This naturally leads to an increasing need to monitor the success rate of studies. In this paper, we analyze the data of time series starting in 2010, which contain information about students of full-time and distance learning study programs at the Faculty of Informatics and Statistics of Prague University of Economics and Business. We evaluated the data, using the standard functions of MS Excel, SPSS software package and R product. The results of our analysis show that the total “Completion Rate” in informatics study programs ranges between 75.50% and 40.29%. The average length of successful studies is between 5.69 and 4.58 semesters in study programs for which students pay tuition fees. The median of the duration of successful studies is between 4 and 6 semesters. On the other hand, dropouts study between 2.673 and 3.90 semesters. The median is between 2 and 3 semesters.

The development of Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) has made significant progress in the last years and it is expected that AVs will soon be introduced on our roads. An important aspect in the development of AVs is the assessment of their safety. As traditional methods for safety assessment of vehicles are not feasible to be performed for AVs within reasonable time and cost, new approaches need to be worked out. Among these, real-world scenario-based assessment is widely supported by many players in the automotive field. Scenario-based assessment allows for using virtual simulation tools in addition to physical tests, such as on a test track, proving ground, or public road. We propose a procedure for real-world scenario-based road-approval assessment considering three stakeholders: the applicant, the assessor, and the (road or vehicle) authority. In this procedure, the applicant applies for the approval of one specific AV, the assessor assesses this AV and advises the authority, and the authority sets the requirements for the AV and decides whether this specific AV is approved for road testing The challenges are as follows. Firstly, the tests need to be tailored to the operational design domain (ODD) and dynamic driving task (DDT) description of the AV. Secondly, it is assumed that the applicant does not want to disclose all of the detailed test results because of proprietary or confidential information contained in these results. Thirdly, due to the complex ODD and DDT, many test scenarios are required to obtain sufficient confidence in the assessment of the AV. Consequently, it is assumed that due to limited resources, it is infeasible for the assessor to conduct all (physical) tests. We propose a systematic approach for determining the tests that are based on the requirements set by the authority and the AV's ODD and DDT description, such that the tests are tailored to the applicable ODD and DDT. Each test comes with metrics that enables the applicant to provide a performance rating of the AV for each of the tests. By only providing a performance rating for each test, the applicant does not need to disclose the details of the test results. In our proposed procedure, the assessor only conducts a limited number of tests. The main purpose of these tests is to verify the fidelity of the results provided by the applicant. Still, the applicant needs to conduct many tests, but this is assumed to be feasible because the applicant can utilize virtual simulation tools to conduct (a part of) the tests whereas this is not possible for the assessor due to proprietary or confidential information. To illustrate the proposed procedure, an example is presented.

Generic Aging Lessons Learned (GALL) report, License Renewal Standard Review Plan (SRP-LR), and regulatory guide were issued by the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) in June 2001. The intent of these documents was to provide the technical and process basis that will lead to a more effective, efficient and predictable license renewal process for industry and the NRC. The GALL report provides the aging effects on components and structures, identifies the relevant existing plant programs, and evaluates the program attributes to manage aging effects for License Renewal. The GALL report also identifies when existing plant programs would require further evaluation for License Renewal. The SRP-LR allows the applicant to reference the GALL report to demonstrate that the programs at the applicant’s facility correspond to those reviewed and approved in the GALL report. Programs that correspond to those in the GALL report will not need further detailed review by the staff. Implementation of the aging management program are verified as part of the license renewal inspection program. The GALL report identifies one acceptable way of demonstrating that components and structures have adequate aging management programs. However, applicants may propose alternatives to the programs identified in GALL. During the license renewal review, the NRC primarily focuses on areas where existing programs should be augmented or new programs developed for License Renewal. This paper will provide an overview of these documents and some of the lessons learned during a demonstration project in the application of the new guidance. This topic will be of interest to the U.S. participants considering License Renewal and desiring to know state-of-the-art information about License Renewal in the United States.

Because of the differences in the structure and content of each website, it is often difficult for international applicants to obtain the application information of each school in time. They need to spend a lot of time manually collecting and sorting information. Especially when the information of the school may be constantly updated, the information may become very inaccurate for international applicants. we designed a tool including three main steps to solve the problem: crawling links, processing web pages, and building my pages. In compiling languages, we mainly use Python and store the crawled data in JSON format [4]. In the process of crawling links, we mainly used beautiful soup to parse HTML and designed crawler. In this paper, we use Python language to design a system. First, we use the crawler method to fetch all the links related to the admission information on the school's official website. Then we traverse these links, and use the noise_remove [5] method to process their corresponding page contents, so as to further narrow the scope of effective information and save these processed contents in the JSON files. Finally, we use the Flask framework to integrate these contents into my front-end page conveniently and efficiently, so that it has the complete function of integrating and displaying information.

Aim/Purpose: The aim of this paper is analysis of applicants for study at the University of Economics, Prague (UEP) that are coming from foreign countries. The second aim is to learn the graduation rate of foreign students. Background: Knowledge about applicants results are important for changing entrance exams according to the changing situation in high school education systems and according to the changing requirements coming from teachers at UEP. The background question is, if the both components of entrance exams should have the same significance. Methodology: Entrance exams results were analysed for 2009-2016 period. We used standard statistics methods supported by the IBM SPSS tool and Microsoft Excel. All data were processed by way of Microsoft SQL Server. We analyzed the faculties that require Mathematics and English entrance exams. We are comparing mainly results of applicants from Russia and Vietnam. For graduation rate estimations the logit model approach has been applied. The data for our analysis came from UEP information systems and hard-copy applications and were then set anonymous. Contribution: Detailed analysis of situation at the UEP and guideline on how to process similar research at another universities. Paper offers comparison of Russian education system results in Mathematics and English with the education system of Vietnam. Further contribution is for Vietnamese potential applicants for study in the Czech Republic. Findings: Based on our analysis, we concluded that total number of applicants for studies was 109,996 students at the UEP during the analyzed period and applicants from Vietnam 1,686 and from Russia 7,227. For studies were accepted 717 applicants from Vietnam (42.5%) and 1,986 applicants from Russia (27.5%). We were also able to prove a slightly positive correlation between the number of points obtained for the English entrance exam and the mathematics entrance exam. However, this correlation goes slightly downhill over time. Further findings are from logit model of correlation between number of obtained points and successfully studies completion. The border for effective acceptance of students from this data set is approximately 170 obtained points in entrance exam. Recommendations for Practitioners : This analysis offers results of entrance exams on UEP from English and Mathematics. Recommendation could be held in comparison of education systems efficiency in Russia and Vietnam in these two areas with reflection requirements on students of economy at University of Economics, Prague. Recommendation for Researchers: The way of analysis, number of analyzed sample, final data and conclusions from this research. Using logit model for study success rate modeling. Offer for cooperation in analysis of entrance exams data queues. Impact on Society: Comparison of entrance exams results on University of Economics, Prague between Russian and Vietnamese applicants for study in the area of economics. Comparison of education systems effectiveness in Vietnam and in Russia in relation to economics studies in EU country. Future Research: Process this analysis in longer period and extend for another countries and nationalities. Next step planned for this is year is analysis of relation among results of Mock Entrance Exams – Entrance Exams – Study Results. This is long-term plan. In next 5 years, we should be able to answer question if there is some probability, that students failed during standard entrance exams when these students pass mock exams for example because he was in stress?

This paper evaluates how new information influences families applica- tions and assignment outcomes in elementary school choice settings. Specifi- cally, using a multi-country RCT based in Tacna, Peru and Manta, Ecuador, we examine the effect of providing personalized information on schooling alternatives and placement risk. We find that applicants who received feed- back on placement risk and a suggestion of new schools add more schools to their applications and were more likely to include recommended schools than other alternatives available. Interestingly, the project implemented in Manta, Ecuador had only marginal effects for all outcomes. The main differ- ence across implementations was the inclusion of outreach and information provision through an additional WhatsApp “warning” in Peru, which was not realized in Ecuador. A lower school density seems to have also been a contributing factor to the results observed in the Ecuadorian context.

This paper reveals the process of creating a career guidance 3D quest game for applicants who aim to apply for IT departments. The game bases on 3D model of computer science and information technologies department in the National Aerospace University “Kharkiv Aviation Institute”. The quest challenges aim to assess the digital competency level of the applicants and first- year students. The paper features leveraged software tools, development stages, implementation challenges, and the gaming application scenario. The game scenario provides for a virtual tour around a department of the 3D university. As far as the game replicates the real-life objects, applicants can see the department's equipment and class-rooms. For the gaming application development team utilized С# and C++, Unity 3D, and Source Engine. For object modeling, we leveraged Hammer Editor, Agisoft PhotoScan Pro, and the photogrammetry technology, that allowed for realistic gameplay. Players are offered various formats of assessment of digital competencies: test task, puzzle, assembling a computer and setting up an IT-specialist workplace. The experiment conducted at the open house day proved the 3D quest game efficiency. The results of digital competence evaluation do not depend on the testing format. The applicants mostly preferred to take a 3D quest, as more up-to-date and attractive engagement.

Exotic plant populations can be potentially catastrophic to the natural communities of South Florida. Aggressive exotics such as Brazillian Pepper (Schinus terebinthifolius) and Melaleuca (Melaleuca quinquinervia) have displaced native habitats and formed monocultures of exotic stands (Dalrymple et al. 2003). Nearby plant nurseries, especially the ones outside the boundaries of Biscayne National Park (BISC) and Everglades National Park (EVER), are a continuous source of new exotic species that may become established within South Florida’s national parks. Early detection and rapid response to these new species of exotic plants is important to maintaining the integrity of the parks’ natural habitats and is a cost-effective approach to management. The South Florida/Caribbean Network (SFCN) developed the South Florida/Caribbean Network Early Detection Protocol for Exotic Plants to target early detection of these potential invaders. Three national parks of South Florida are monitored for invasive, exotic plants using this protocol: Big Cypress National Preserve (BICY), Biscayne National Park (BISC), and Everglades National Park (EVER). These national parks include some 2,411,000 acres (3,767.2 square miles [mi2]) that encompass a variety of habitat types. To monitor the entire area for new species would not be feasible; therefore the basic approach of this protocol is to scan major “corridors of invasiveness,” e.g., paved and unpaved roads, trails, trail heads, off road vehicle (ORV) trails, boat ramps, canals, and campgrounds, for exotic plant species new to the national parks of South Florida. Sampling is optimized using a two- to three-person crew: a trained botanist, a certified herbicide applicator, and optionally a SFCN (or IPMT [Invasive Plant Management Team]) staff member or park staff to take photographs and help with data collection. If infestations are small, they are treated immediately by the herbicide applicator. If large, they are reported to park staff and the Invasive Plant Management Team. The sampling domain is partitioned into five regions, with one region sampled per year. Regions include the terrestrial habitats of Biscayne National Park, the eastern region of Everglades National Park, the western region of Everglades National Park, the northern region of Big Cypress National Preserve, and the southern region of Big Cypress National Preserve. Monitoring of roads, trails, and canals occurs while traveling into and through the parks (i.e., travel at 2–10 mph) using motorized vehicles, airboats, and/or hiking. Campgrounds, boat launches, trailheads, and similar areas, involve complete searches. When an exotic plant is observed, a GPS location is obtained, and coordinates are taken of the plant. Photographs are not taken for every exotic plant encountered, but photographs will be taken for new and unusual species (for example a coastal exotic found in inland habitats). Information recorded at each location includes the species name, size of infestation, abundance, cover class, any treatment/control action taken, and relevant notes. During the surveys, a GPS “track” is also recorded to document the areas surveyed and a field of view is estimated. Field notes, pictures, and GPS data are compiled, entered, and analyzed in a Microsoft Access database. Resource briefs (and optional data summary reports) and associated shapefiles and data are then produced and sent to contacts within the corresponding national parks.
