Modeling of the state image is an urgent problem of modern humanities. The article analyzes the image-buildingof Ukraine within the framework of linguistic imageology – an innovative linguistic direction, which is aimed at analyzingthe linguistic features of image construction.The aim of the article is a linguistic analysis of the image-building of Ukraine with a projection on current imagepublications about Ukraine in the modern media space. Realization of the set purpose provides the decision of a number of tasks, in particular: 1) definition of the extra- and intralingual factors providing construction in mass consciousnessof recipients of a positive image of our state; 2) media monitoring of current image publications about Ukraine in nationaland foreign mass media, which directly influence the formation of Ukraine's image; 3) elucidation of the main linguisticmarkers of modeling the positive image of Ukraine in such publications.Scientific novelty. The author considers the modeling of the state image in the context of media linguistic imageology –the newest direction of modern linguistics, focused on the search for linguistic dominants of image creation in the media.The author emphasizes the importance of taking into account a set of linguistic and extralinguistic criteria of state imagecreation, which include: broad informing of Ukrainian and foreign audiences about the main victories, achievementsof the country in various social spheres, what the leading state institutions and organizations are doing today (UkrainianInstitute, “Image Agency of Ukraine”, Ukraine Crisis Media Center, etc.), the use of special image-forming markersthat form in the mass consciousness of recipients a positive perception of Ukraine, such as emotional-evaluativeepithets, periphrastic, metaphorical constructions, phraseological transformations with expressive component etc. Thearticle analyzes the current image publications about Ukraine that appear in the media in connection with the releaseof the Ukrainian national football team in the Euro-2020 finals and the victories of Ukrainian athletes at the OlympicGames in Tokyo-2021.In conclusion, the author emphasizes that the problem of state image-building is extremely relevant forlinguistics, where the priority is to analyze the linguistic features of image creation. According to the author, in thiscontext, the task of the media linguist is to clarify effective linguistic tools for modeling a positive image of Ukraineat the textual level and identify effective language tools that will help to improve and “restore” the state image ina globalized media space.

A positive image of the country on the international arena enables the state to pursue an active foreign policy, attract investment and tourist flows, and increase its prestige in the world. A positive political, economic, social, and cultural reputation in the world is very important for Ukraine, which is in a state of political crisis, military conflict in the East of the country, and at the same time has declared to uphold the European values and is aimed at joining the EU and the NATO. Ukraine is an attractive source of news in shaping the agenda of influential European media. In 2019, the catalyst of interest was the events of the presidential election campaign. This is one of the fateful periods of the country’s struggle for independence and democracy. The political course of the country in the international arena depends on the results of the will expression, which may indirectly affect the geopolitical landscape of Europe. Based on the content analysis of The Telegraph, The Guardian (UK); Die Zeit, Die Tageszeitung (Germany); Le Figaro, Le Monde (France) defined the semantic structure and emotional and evaluative tone of the media image of Ukraine.

Reinventing Ukraine: Ukrainian National and Supra-National Identity in Contemporary Polish Opinion-Making PressUkraine in XXI century has been experiencing new social and political changes which resulted into shifts of the national identity. It has left resonance not only within Ukrainian society but abroad as well. Historical events such as Orange revolution or Euromaidan provided new directions for reconsidering Ukrainian identity by the external actors. The image of Ukraine has been created abroad with the help of mass media, which enable the wide audience to receive information about particular events and make own conclusions. Information, presented in the opinion-making press worth better for deliberating the issue of identity. Thus, this paper seeks to investigate how Polish intellectuals present Ukraine in contemporary Polish opinion-making press. This research on the one hand provides understanding of Ukrainian identity problems, and gives possibility to examine positive and negative aspects of the way identity has been expressed. On the other hand, it demonstrates the way public opinion-makers in Poland perceive, construct and reconstruct identity of Ukraine, Ukrainian nation and present them to their society. The article seeks to investigate what attributes of Ukrainian identity were crucial for Polish media. What factors, historical events, cultural and political features, myth and symbols were important for deliberating Ukraine in Polish opinion-making press. Ponowne odkrycie Ukrainy: Ukraińska narodowa i ponadnarodowa tożsamość we współczesnej polskiej prasie opiniotwórczejW XXI wieku Ukraina przeżywa nowe zmiany społeczne i polityczne, które prowadzą do zmian tożsamości narodowej. To spowodowało rezonans nie tylko w społeczeństwie ukraińskim, ale również za granicą. Najnowsze wydarzenia historyczne, takie jak Pomarańczowa Rewolucja czy Euromajdan, na nowo ożywiły wśród podmiotów zewnętrznych dyskusję o ukraińskiej tożsamości. Zewnętrzny wizerunek Ukrainy kształtują środki masowego przekazu, które dostarczają szerokiej publiczności informacji o wydarzeniach historycznych. Informacje prezentowane w prasie opiniotwórczej są istotnym źródłem dla rozważań nad kwestiami tożsamości w ogóle. Artykuł ma na celu zbadanie, jak polscy intelektualiści przedstawiają Ukrainę we współczesnej polskiej prasie. Badanie umożliwi zrozumienie problemów ukraińskiej tożsamości, będzie także prezentacją pozytywnych i negatywnych jej aspektów. Zarazem jednak unaoczni, w jaki sposób polskie środowiska opiniotwórcze postrzegają, konstruują i rekonstruują tożsamość Ukrainy i narodu ukraińskiego i jak przedstawiają te kwestie społeczeństwu. Staram się jednocześnie wyjaśnić, jakie atrybuty ukraińskiej tożsamości – wydarzenia historyczne, cechy kulturowe i polityczne, mity i symbole – były istotne dla rozważań nad Ukrainą w polskiej prasie opiniotwórczej.

Globalization processes of the information era, mediatization of modern society make it possible to apply to image new methods of analysis. Since today’s state image is formed in media space, media linguistic area of image research seems to be one of the most promising. The relevant problem is connected with formation of effective image strategies, which we define as complex image actions, tactics, technologies etc. aimed at creating a successful image. The article analyzes innovative scientific investigations on image issues of leading world (A. Cheddad, J. Condell, K. Curranand, P. McKevitt, P. Diaz Rodriguez) and Ukrainian (H. Shevchenko, I. Kysarets, I. Lysychkina, O. Dobrozhanska, V. Fedorova) linguists. The author focuses on media discourse of image studies (works by V. Chekalyuk, I. Valevska etc.). It is postulated that media linguistic aspect of imageology is only developing and is considered mainly in the context of suggestive linguistics. The image potential of emotional-evaluative constructions, therapeutic metaphors / texts, reclamation lexems, verbalizers with positive semantics etc is determined. According to the author’s argumentation, such language formulas have strong suggestive properties. The linguistic component of state image strategies implementation is analyzed. The author states that in Ukrainian media space the strategies of positive self-presentation, highlighting uniqueness and appealing to values can be quite effective. The scholar studies the linguistic resource of image publications about Ukraine on official government pages in social networks (Facebook and Twitter). The author systematically proves that image strategies in modern communication achieve maximum effect when verbal communication is accompanied by visualization of image symbols, situations and associations. Thus, an effective image mark is created, where there is a sublimation of meaning and expression, which can be considered a certain suggestive ideal in modern media.

Arbitration practitioners often put Ukraine below the average ranking of countries in terms of recognition of arbitration. Ukraine's image of a not entirely arbitration-friendly jurisdiction is "promoted" with common thought about problematic enforcement of arbitral awards in Ukraine. However, in recent years Ukrainian legal system demonstrated significant progress in adherence to the arbitration-friendly approach. The article is devoted to the analysis of Ukraine’s public diplomacy in terms of aggravation of relations with Russia. Public diplomacy is researched as an instrument for shaping the perception of Ukraine in the West that is exposed to constant threats of information influence by the Russian Federation. The paper analyses the role of public diplomacy in shaping the favorable image of the state in the mass consciousness and ensuring national interests in the international arena. The peculiarities of the development of public diplomacy of Ukraine at the institutional and practical levels being intensified since 2014 after the beginning of Russian aggression against Ukraine, are determined. Conceptual documents and specially created institutions for shaping a positive perception of Ukraine abroad and disrupting negative influence of Russian propaganda are examined. As a result, the main directions of Ukraine's public diplomacy are the development ties with the public and media; realization of image, cultural and informational projects abroad; cooperation of governmental bodies for supporting foreign-policy interests. Through the content analysis of the Western media space on the coverage of Ukraine and the expert assessment of public diplomacy of Ukraine, the peculiarities of the influence of Ukrainian public diplomacy on shaping its perception in the West were identified and a set of recommendations was developed to improve Ukraine's perceptions in the face of aggravation of relations with Russia. These include developing West and Russian directions of public diplomacy, intensifying media coverage of Ukraine, changing narratives about Ukraine as well as engaging civil activists and artists for promotion the national interests abroad.

The purpose of the article is to determine the sociocultural determinants of the transformation of Ukraine foreign image under the influence of domestic and foreign political events and the state of its coverage in the information space; to ascertain the evolution of the cultural model of the image of Ukraine in the international information space. The research methodology consists in the use of interdisciplinary methods and approaches to identify information and communication technologies aimed at the formation of the international image of Ukraine; the principle of historicism allowed determining the stages of changes in the information space and the transformation of the geopolitical situation around Ukraine; the structural and comparative methods were used to determine the international media positions on Ukraine, their influence on the formation of its image. The scientific novelty of the research is in the presentation of the Ukraine image as an expression of the mentality of a particular cultural and historical community, an indicator of cultural meanings, unique design, mechanism of realisation of a national culture through a set of sign objectivations formed within a particular cultural and historical space and consolidated in the mental representations of individuals. Conclusions. It is proved that the negative image of Ukraine created by Western media affected the development of its tourism sector, the promotion of national cultural heritage and the investment climate significantly. The modern image of Ukraine is undergoing reformatting; there are significant cultural, political, and economic changes. The cultural model of the positive image of Ukraine in the international information space is determined by a properly structured state cultural policy and the effective use of modern image-making tools that can set it on the path of cultural, political and economic stabilisation.

The purpose of the article is to identify the main tendencies of the coverage of Ukrainian themes by the British media resource The Guardian during 2013– 2019. The selection of the research object is based on the media type (“quality newspaper”, which does not depend on the influence of large capital, political parties and any other institutions), its reputation and the developed multi-platform model of content distribution among the international audience.Having used the methods of monitoring, comparative and quantitative content analysis of the array of texts, published on the online resource theguardian.com for the period of time from 2013 till 2018, the specificity of the presentation of Ukraine by one of the most influential international media is analyzed and as a result, we can state that it tends to be of a sporadic nature. The study is based on the manual search of publications, which included over 4,000 materials of various genres on Ukraine-related topics. As the selection criteria, we used the thematic direction of the texts, the chronological framework (2013-2018), and the context of events.The survey results have showed that there are certain gaps in the implementation of Ukraine's information policy, the level of interest in Ukrainian topics depends on the degree of events’ resonance, and the main focus of the British media is on the reforms implementation, the introduction of a visa-free regime with the EU, the provision of financial assistance to Ukraine and adaptation of Ukrainian legislation in line with the European law norms. The study has found that there is a rather negative trend: the British press mentions Ukraine mainly in the context of the actualization of Russian issues, which does not contribute to the formation of a country’s positive image among international community. Only a competent systematic information policy, which ensures the nuances of a comprehensive coverage of Ukrainian eurointegration aspects, can improve the situation, described in the article. Given the active phase of the European integration processes in Ukraine, namely the introduction of a relevant action plan and the reforming process in the key public spheres in line with EU requirements, it is extremely important to inform the global community about the progress, being made towards the European future of Ukraine. The following can be achieved through the formulation and dissemination of clear “messages” about Ukraine among the international media that will protect the country’s interests, improve its image and ensure a permanent presence in the global information space.

The political image of a state is an opinion of it on the basis of an idea generated in imagination, purposely formed through professional efforts with an internal or external audience. It is absolutely obvious that any country is interested in both internal and external positive image. If you put “political image of Ukraine” into a Google search, the truth about what U.S. society and foreign mass media in general think about it immediately reveals. In the recommended searches we see “Why Ukraine is not safe?”, “Why Ukraine is a bad place to live?” and “Corruption in Ukraine”. A positive image of the state in the eyes of its citizens can be a powerful factor in consolidating the nation, strengthening the identity of the people, providing support for internal and foreign policies, as well as one of the conditions of social security. But do the government pay enough attention to this? What do Ukrainians think about it?
Політичний образ держави - це думка про неї на основі ідеї, сформованої в уяві, спеціально сформованої завдяки професійним зусиллям із внутрішньою або зовнішньою аудиторією. Абсолютно очевидно, що будь-яку країну цікавить як внутрішній, так і зовнішній позитивний імідж. Якщо ви ввести «політичний образ України» в пошук Google, то одразу відкриється правда про те, що думають про це суспільство США та зарубіжні ЗМІ загалом. У рекомендованих пошукових запитах ми бачимо “Чому Україна небезпечна?”, “Чому Україна - погане місце для життя?” та “Корупція в Україні”. Позитивний імідж держави в очах її громадян може бути потужним фактором консолідації нації, зміцнення самобутності людей, забезпечення підтримки внутрішньої та зовнішньої політики, а також однією з умов соціального забезпечення. Але чи приділяє уряд цьому достатньо уваги? Що про це думають українці?

L’Ukraine, objet et terrain d’études, revêt un double enjeu, à la fois scientifique et opérationnel. Ce pays qui reste encore peu attractif pour les clientèles européennes pour ses ressources touristiques et patrimoniales, souhaite embrayer afin d’améliorer son positionnement sur le marché touristique en s’inspirant des pratiques et des expertises françaises. Il y a donc dans cette recherche doctorale deux volets qui sont nécessairement articulés : un premier de connaissance et d'analyse des systèmes touristiques et patrimoniaux ukrainiens, un second de propositions – à partir des savoir-faire français - destinées à participer aux recherches ukrainiennes en la matière. Le contexte géopolitique actuel du territoire ukrainien depuis novembre 2013 et son aggravation durant la période 2014–2015 a influé sur le déroulement et les terrains pressentis mais plus encore sur le cadre des problématiques initialement posé. Celui-ci, centré sur les stratégies du secteur touristique ukrainien à partir de l’exemple de 4 territoires dont la Crimée, a été réorienté de fait vers l’étude du patrimoine culturel comme ressource touristique ukrainienne visant le développement d’un nouveau segment touristique. Pour identifier des points d’attractivité touristique en Ukraine pour les touristes étrangers et les marqueurs territoriaux nécessaires à l’établissement d’un tourisme de niche, deux approches sont mobilisées. Se donner les moyens de définir objectivement "l’image" du pays et de ses territoires pour en caractériser les éléments patrimoniaux susceptibles de concourir à une meilleure visibilité ukrainienne. Ces approches ont nécessité la délimitation pertinente et l’analyse de plusieurs corpus : guides et brochures touristiques, listes du patrimoine culturel classé, questionnaires auprès de touristes. Les changements et tensions géopolitiques en Ukraine ont singulièrement perturbé l'accès aux données : certaines d'entre elles ont totalement disparu. Il s’agit en premier lieu des statistiques touristiques de certains territoires en tension (régions de Donetsk, Luhansk, de la Crimée). De surcroît, les listes du patrimoine culturel classé ont subi des transformations suite aux lois dites de « désoviétisation », entrainant la suppression des listes patrimoniales de la période soviétique. Cette « dé-patrimonialisation » a également concerné certains monuments et objets patrimoniaux considérés comme « portant l’idéologie du régime communiste ». Finalement, cette difficulté d'accès à des sources comparables dans la durée à l'échelle nationale comme le mouvement de dépatrimonialisation officielle ont conduit à un repositionnement partiel de la problématique, anciens et nouveaux patrimoines mobilisant autrement la question de la mémoire et de l'identité ukrainiennes. L’approche diachronique utilisée dans l’explication des évolutions touristiques et patrimoniales institutionnelles a été mise en perspective sur un temps plus long. C'est ainsi que l'exploration et l'analyse des guides touristiques depuis le début du XXème siècle a permis de resituer plus largement les représentations et discours touchant au fait touristique et donc à l'identité ukrainienne par l'intermédiaire de ses patrimoines. Un travail de représentations des données – graphiques, tableaux synoptiques, cartographies – a été effectué pour mieux visualiser les éléments comparatifs, dans leurs diachronies comme dans leurs spatialisations. Il a nourri un diagnostic mettant en évidence les disparités relatives aux flux touristiques, aux marqueurs territoriaux comme aux objets patrimoniaux classés. Ces analyses induisent quelques préconisations pour la mise en place d’un tourisme de niche, centré sur l'articulation des offres touristico-patrimoniales, en fonction de données statistiques accessibles mais en conservant un souci de vigilance quant à leur fiabilité
Ukraine, as an object and a field of study, has a double challenge, both scientific and operational. This country, remaining still unattractive to European customers for its tourist and heritage resources, wishes to embark on a process of improving its positioning on the tourist market by drawing inspiration from French practices and expertise. This doctoral research therefore has two necessarily interlinked components: firstly, the study and analysis of Ukrainian tourism and heritage systems, and secondly, the proposals based on French know-how, intended to participate in Ukrainian research in this field.The current geopolitical context of the Ukrainian territory since November 2013 and its worsening during the 2014–2015 period has influenced the development and the established areas, but even more in the context of the problems initially posed. That development, initially focused on the strategies of the Ukrainian tourism sector starting from the example of 4 territories including Crimea, in fact was reoriented towards the study of cultural heritage as an Ukrainian tourist resource in order to develop a new tourist segment.Two approaches are used in order to identify points of tourism attraction in Ukraine for foreign tourists and the territorial markers necessary for establishing niche tourism. The first one is to find the means to objectively define the "image" of the country and its territories; the second one is to characterize the heritage elements likely to contribute to better Ukrainian visibility. These approaches have required the relevant delimitation and analysis of several corpuses: travel guides, lists of classified cultural heritage, questionnaires among tourists.Geopolitical changes and tensions in Ukraine have significantly disrupted access to data: some of them have completely disappeared. First of all, there are the tourist statistics of certain regions in tension (Donetsk, Luhansk, Crimea regions). In addition, the lists of classified cultural heritage have undergone transformations following the so-called "de-Sovietization" laws, leading to the abolition of heritage lists from the Soviet period. This "de-patrimonialization" also concerns certain monuments and heritage objects considered as "bearing the ideology of the communist regime". Finally, this difficulty of access to sources that are comparable over time on a national scale, such as official depatrimonialisation movement, has led to a partial repositioning of the research issues, with old and new heritages mobilizing the question of memory and Ukrainian identity in a different way.The diachronic approach used in explaining the tourism and institutional heritage evolutions has been put into perspective over a longer period of time. This is how the exploration and analysis of travel guides since the beginning of the XXth century has made it possible to resituate more widely the representations and discourses relating to tourism and therefore to Ukrainian identity through its heritage.Data representation work - graphs, synoptic tables, maps – has been carried out to better visualize the comparative elements, in their diachrony as well as in their spatializations. It has contributed to a diagnosis highlighting the disparities relating to tourist flows, territorial markers as well as classified heritage objects. These analyses lead to some recommendations for the implementation of niche tourism, centered on the articulation of tourist-heritage offers, based on accessible statistical data, but with a concern for vigilance as to their reliability

Анотація:
Successful presentation of a country as a brand and positioning its unique image on the global level can give significant opportunities for development and progress of the state in the different areas. This research applies theories on the country branding to estimate impact of mega sport events on the image of state. To accomplish these goal I used case study – formation of brand Ukraine before hosting European Football Championship 2012 (EURO 2012). To investigate  brand strategy of Ukraine and analyze implemented projects I conducted in-depth interviews with government officials and independent experts, who are involved in promo campaigns of Ukraine. The research concluded that Ukraine is in the process of  brand formation, but it is too early to to assume the existance of the comprehensive brand of the country. For Ukraine, EURO 2012 impulses change of negative perceptions of the country and  is a step towards complex strategy of brand creation. Future of this strategy therefore depends on conducting preliminary studies of each promo project and coordinated collaboration between all actors who take part in creation of brand Ukraine. Research also provides recommendations on how to make brand campaign more efficient.

The purpose of this thesis was to get an idea of how tourism in Ukraine and specifically in the capital, Kiev, changed since the major events in recent years. In 2012 Ukraine and Poland welcomed the big football event Euro 2012 where Kiev was one of the hosting cities. After that the tourist flow increased until the terrible riot that took place at the end of 2013. Among other consequences, it led to Kiev receiving a bad image internationally via mass media, which in turn led to the reduction of the tourist flow. This thesis is a qualitative study, based on interviews with two government officials who had given us an overview of how tourism is today and what government does to improve the city’s image of having poor security and threats to potential tourists in Kiev today. Interviews with both representatives took place on location in Kiev. In addition to that, we conducted an email-survey with 13 Swedish tourists who had not previously visited Kiev to get a picture of their knowledge of Ukraine’s capital. Based on the answers from our respondents, we had worked to obtain the relevant theories and previous research for further analysis. The results of this thesis show that nowadays tourism in Kiev is not a profitable industry and there is too little focus dedicated to this topic as well as the city's marketing, because of the ongoing war in parts of the country. Furthermore, there is no ministry responsible for tourism in Kiev, but only departments that are being constantly moved between different ministries.
Syftet med denna uppsats var att få en uppfattning över hur turism i Ukraina och specifikt i huvudstaden Kiev ser ut, då den ändrades i och med stora händelser under de senaste åren. År 2012 hade Ukraina och Polen välkomnat det stora fotbollsevenemanget EM 2012 och Kiev var en av städerna som evenemanget arrangerades i. Efter detta hade turistflödet ökat tills det förfärliga upploppet som skedde i slutet av år 2013. Det ledde till att Kiev fick en dålig image internationellt via massmedia som i sin tur ledde till turismflödets minskning. Uppsatsen är en kvalitativ studie, byggt på intervjuer med två myndighetsrepresentanter som har gett oss en överblick om hur turismen ser ut idag och vad staten gör för att avlägsna denna image om dålig säkerhet och hot mot potentiella turister som Kiev har idag. Med potentiell turist menas en person som hittar något intresse för att besöka ett turistställe. Intervju med både representanter skedde på plats i Kiev. Samtidigt hade vi genomfört en undersökning då vi via e-post intervjuade 13 svenska turister som inte tidigare hade besökt Kiev. Syftet med e-post intervjuerna var att få deltagarnas bild av vad de har för kunskap om Kiev. Utifrån svar från våra respondenter hade vi arbetat för att få fram de relevanta teorier samt tidigare forskning för vidare analys. Resultatet av denna uppsats visar att dagens turism i Kiev inte är den lönsamma näringen och det fokus som läggs på detta område samt stadens marknadsföring är obetydlig, då det pågår krig i delar av landet. Samtidigt som förvärvsarbetet av turismen brister på grund av saknad av ett departement som ska vara ansvarig för turismen i Kiev. Det finns endast inaktiva avdelningar som ständigt flyttas till olika departement.

Робота складається з трьох розділів, вступу і висновків. У першому розділі кваліфікаційної роботи розглядаються теоретичні питання стосовно розуміння дефініції «імідж», розглядається підґрунтя утворення даної категорії, ключова увага приділяється актуальним методам підвищення іміджу Збройних Сил України в умовах змін. Другий розділ містить детальну характеристику діяльності Збройних Сил України, структури управління. Проведено аналіз функціонування військової частини та наголошено на сильних та слабких сторонах у розбудові іміджу частини. Обґрунтовується необхідність використання сучасних заходів формування позитивного іміджу військової частини та Армії в цілому з використанням досвіду розвинутих країн. У третьому розділі розроблено конкретні пропозиції та ключові шляхи, що сприятимуть поліпшенню сприйняття Збройних Сил України громадянським суспільством, виділяються чинники посилення іміджевої складової та основні напрями, що сприятимуть удосконаленню іміджу військової частини.
The work consists of three sections, introduction and conclusions. The first section of the qualification work considers theoretical issues related to understanding the definition of "image", considers the basis for the formation of this category, key attention is paid to current methods of improving the image of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in a changing environment. The second section contains a detailed description of the activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the management structure. The analysis of the functioning of the military unit is carried out and the strengths and weaknesses in building the image of the unit are emphasized. The necessity of using modern measures to form a positive image of the military unit and the Army as a whole using the experience of developed countries is substantiated. The third section develops specific proposals and key ways to improve the perception of the Armed Forces of Ukraine by civil society, highlights the factors of strengthening the image component and the main areas that will improve the image of the military unit.

This chapter introduces Ukraine as the quintessential locale of the Russian imperial uncanny. It discusses Ukraine's complicated history of its integration into the Russian Empire. Unlike Finland, Ukraine was perceived as a repository of specifically Slavic authenticity and national culture. The topic of Ukraine in the Russian imperialist discourse and Gogol's complicated relationship to his Ukrainian and Russian “selves” have been sufficiently addressed in scholarship. Thus the chapter only outlines the major factors that contributed to the image of Gothic Ukraine in the Russian literary imagination as its uncanny double and briefly discusses Gogol's stories The Night before Christmas and A Terrible Vengeance (1832) as case studies.

American and British fantasy literature has well-established traditions. But Ukrainian fantasy is quite a young literature genre. Halyna Pahutiak is a modern Ukrainian fantasy writer. Her prose is a unique mixture of psychologism, mysticism, symbolism, feminism and urbanism. Almost all her works are permeated with western Ukrainian myths and folklore. Protagonists of her books are in search of their self-identity, that’s why they have to accomplish their mission. Even her secondary characters are original. Her novel ‘The Kingdom’ could substitute the Harry Potter book series for Ukrainian young readers. The novel includes reflections on ‘eternal’ topics: family and friendship. The main character of the story is a 14-year-old girl, called Lucina. At the beginning of the novel she may seem to be a typical vulnerable teenager, and then she appears to be brave, strong and persistent.

Анотація:
The article examines the formation of the image of Ukraine by the French media during the Orange Revolution. The main factors influencing the tone of publications and difficulties in creating a positive external image of Ukraine in the French media are identified. The article is aimed at the analysis of scientific research on the influence of the French media on the formation of the image of Ukraine and its role in international socio-political processes. The study analyzes the materials of French journalists in the media, written during the events in 2004. The main factors influencing the formation of positive features of the Ukrainian state are identified. The main changes in perceptions of Ukraine in the French media are systematized. The influence of the media on the formation of the image and security of the state is determined. The main peaks of interest in Ukraine from foreign mass media are analyzed. Stereotypes and myths in the image of Ukraine that should be destroyed have been identified. The article also analyzes the role of the Orange Revolution in forming a positive image of Ukraine for foreign recipients. It is also investigated what factors influence the information space of the state and its role in image formation. Examples of Russian influence on the French media in order to undermine Ukraine’s image at the international level are given. Articles, radio and TV materials are offered as an example of interest and attention to the events of 2004. At the same time, the need to control the information that enters the information space outside Ukraine has been demonstrated. However, the positive effects of the image on the support of Ukraine by foreign partners have been identified.

The article deals with the leading issues in the children's literature of the Ukrainian Diaspora writers. Among the key themes are the following such as historical, patriotic, religious and Christian topics, which are considered through the image of “The Self”. This concept includes the image of the Motherland, historically native land, prominent figures (Taras Shevchenko, hetmans of Ukraine), the family line, national symbols (the flag, the trident) and religious and Christian symbols (the church, the blessing). The idea of preserving the cultural identity and the national identity of Ukrainians is prevalent through the concept of “The Self”.

Анотація:
The article examines the problem of the image formation of Ukraine in the international arena in the historical journalism of Timothy Snyder. The subject of the research is the historical context in the journalistic collection «Ukrainian History, Russian Politics, European Future». It identifies the main considerations of the author on the past of Russian-Ukrainian relations and the need to develop historical consciousness in the fight against Russian manipulation. Methodology: the comparative, historical, system analysis and other methods are used in the process of scientific research. The results of the study were obtained by analysing the author’s journalistic works and by considering the main historical themes raised by Timothy Snyder. Main results: The historical context in Timothy Snyder’s journalism is often focused on the Holodomor and the events of World War II. After all, these events are connected with the beginning of the image formation of the Ukrainian people as supporters of Nazism by the Russian authorities and the devaluation of the Ukrainians’ contribution to the establishment of peace during the Second World War. It is determined that the non-reflective attitude to history, the inability to draw parallels between the events of the past and the future leads to an ineffective response to manipulation and propaganda, which can threaten world peace. Conclusions: the realization that Russian aggression against Ukraine has its own history is a necessary aspect in the elucidation of this issue. The Eurasian Union and cooperation with the European far-right are Russian propaganda tools that discredit the Ukrainian state in the world community. Publicist Timothy Snyder points out that Europe’s future interconnects with the past, so he emphasizes the need to study and rethink history, which today has become the object of propaganda and manipulation. Significance: The results of our study will help journalists who study the historical aspect of journalistic materials and research foreign materials on Ukrainian issues. In addition, our research is necessary for Ukraine, because Russia’s aggression continues, as well as the aggressor’s propaganda, which is based on the distortion and falsification of historical events.

Анотація:
The article is devoted to the analysis of the main forms of visualization in the media related to photo. The thematic visual concepts are described in accordance with the content of electronic media, which consider the impact of modern technologies on the development of media space. The researches of the Ukrainian and foreign educational institutions concerning the main features of modern photo is classificate. Modifications and new visual forms in the media are singled out. The main objective of the article is to study the visual concepts of modern photo and identify ideological and thematic priorities in photo projects. To achieve the main objective in the article a certain methodology were used. Due to the historical-theoretical description it was possible to substantiate the study of visual concepts. The conceptual-system method was used to study the subject of media photo projects. The main results of the research are the definition of visual concepts of photo on the example of electronic media and the identification of the main thematic features in the process of visual filling of the media space. Based on the study, we can conclude that today the information field needs quality visual content. For successful creation of visual concepts it is necessary to single out thematic features of modern photo and to carry out classifications on ideological and semantic signs. Given the rapid development of digital technologies, the topic of the scientific article we offer is relevant for scientists, journalists, media researchers, visual journalism experts and photojournalists. Modern space is filled with a large number of pictorial materials, which in most cases form specific images, patterns or stereotypes in the mind of the reader (viewer). Also important is the classification of photo used in journalistic publications. That is why there is a need to explore the content and principles of distribution of ideological priorities of photo in the media. The substantiation of scientists about the important place of photography in the modern media space and the future development of visual technologies, which already use artificial intelligence, is relevant.

Анотація:
The article clarifies of gender identity stereotypes in modern media. The main gender stereotypes covered in modern mass media are analyzed and refuted. The model of gender relations in the media is reflected mainly in the stereotypical images of men and woman. The features of the use of gender concepts in modern periodicals for women and men were determined. The most frequently used derivatives of these macroconcepts were identified and analyzed in detail. It has been found that publications for women and men are full of various gender concepts that are used in different contexts. Ingeneral, theanalysisofthe concept-maximums and concept-minimum gender and their characteristics is carried out in the context of gender stereotypes that have been forme dand function in the society, system atizing the a ctual presentations. The study of the gender concept is relevant because it reveals new trends and features of modern gender images. Taking into account the special features of gender-labeled periodicals in general and the practical absence of comprehensive scientific studies of the gender concept in particular, there is a need to supplement Ukrainian science with this topic. Gender psychology, which is served by methods of various sciences, primarily sociological, pedagogical, linguistic, psychological, socio-psychological. Let us pay attention to linguistic and psycholinguistic methods in gender studies. Linguistic methods complement intelligence research tasks, associated with speech, word and text. Psycholinguistic methods used in gender psychology (semantic differential, semantic integral, semantic analysis of words and texts), aimed at studying speech messages, specific mechanisms of origin and perception, functions of speech activity in society, studying the relationship between speech messages and gender properties participants in the communication, to analyze the linguistic development in connection with the general development of the individual. Nowhere in gender practice there is the whole arsenal of psychological methods that allow you to explore psychological peculiarities of a person like observation, experiments, questionnaires, interviews, testing, modeling, etc. The methods of psychological self-diagnostics include: the gender aspect of the own socio-psychological portrait, a gender biography as a variant of the biographical method, aimed at the reconstruction of individual social experience. In the process of writing a gender autobiography, a person can understand the characteristics of his gender identity, as well as ways and means of their formation. Socio-psychological methods of studying gender include the study of socially constructed women’s and men’s roles, relationships and identities, sexual characteristics, psychological characteristics, etc. The use of gender indicators and gender approaches as a means of socio-psychological and sociological analysis broadens the subject boundaries of these disciplines and makes them the subject of study within these disciplines. And also, in the article a combination of concrete-historical, structural-typological, system-functional methods is implemented. Descriptive and comparative methods, method of typology, modeling are used. Also used is a method of content analysis for the study of gender content of modern gender-stamped journals. It was he who allowed quantitatively to identify and explore the features of the gender concept in the pages of periodicals for women and men. A combination of historical, structural-typological, system-functional methods is also implemented in the article. Descriptive and comparative methods, method of typology, modeling are used. A method of content analysis for the study of gender content of modern gender-labeled journals is also used. It allowed to identify and explore the features of the gender concept quantitatively in the periodicals for women and men. The conceptual perception and interpretation of the gender concept «woman», which is highlighted in the modern gender-labeled press in Ukraine, requires the elaboration of the polyfunctionality of gender interpretations, the comprehension of the metaphorical perception of this image and its role and purpose in society. A gendered approach to researching the gender content of contemporary periodicals for women and men. Conceptual analysis of contemporary gender-stamped publications within the gender conceptual sphere allows to identify and correlate the meta-gender and gender concepts that appear in society.
