ABSTRACT It is widely accepted that most occurrences of inclined heterolithic stratification (IHS) in the rock record form by laterally accreting point bars in freshwater fluvial, tidally influenced fluvial, or tidally dominated estuary channels. Despite the widespread distribution of IHS in the subsurface and outcropping strata of the lower Cretaceous McMurray Formation, the large-scale depositional architecture and lateral facies variability of these deposits remains controversial. The relatively limited lateral extent of many of the outcrops is a challenge, particularly when point-bar deposits on the scale of hundreds of meters to kilometers are interpreted in outcrops spanning anywhere from 100 to 300 meters laterally. This has in turn led researchers to leverage other datasets such as 3-D seismic to analyze the large-scale depositional architecture of the IHS, leading to two main interpretations for the IHS in the McMurray Formation: 1) a fluvially dominated environment owing to geomorphological features comparable to those in large modern fluvial systems, or 2) an estuarine environment owing to the presence of trace fossils characteristic of marine-derived faunal colonization in brackish-water settings and strong evidence of tidal modulation. The purpose of this study is to investigate the sedimentology and depositional architecture of IHS in a unique, kilometer-wide outcrop exposure of McMurray Formation strata and compare it to IHS observed at other McMurray Formation outcrops previously interpreted as estuarine channels. This is achieved by combining traditional field-based methods with Unmanned Aerial Vehicle-based outcrop modeling to create a 3-D outcrop model to visualize and analyze large point-bar geobodies deposited in a channel upwards of 25 meters deep and 750 meters wide exposed in outcrop at Crooked Rapids of the Athabasca River, west of the City of Fort McMurray. Importantly, this methodology uses bed orientation trends, paleocurrent data, and sedimentological observations to identify and map architectural elements, which constitute an eastward-accreting point bar crosscut by a southwestward-accreting counter point bar in the outcrop. The results strongly suggest that the IHS at Crooked Rapids was deposited in a freshwater fluvial environment. When compared to IHS deposited in estuarine depositional environments, fluvial IHS is driven by seasonal river discharge as opposed to the interplay between river discharge and the extent of the tidal prism. Therefore, fluvial IHS is: 1) dominantly sandstone with very minor waning-flow siltstone interbeds resulting from erosion by the succeeding freshet phase, and 2) completely devoid of bioturbation until flat-lying bar top or overbank strata is encountered. Using 3-D outcrop modeling to supplement sedimentological and ichnological observations strengthens the interpretation of complex fluvial geobodies and increases the overall understanding of the large-scale depositional architecture of point bars across the tidal–fluvial transition zone.

Evolutionary mechanisms have shaped the genomic architecture of Colombian Creole cattle breeds. The mating and selection processes have impacted several traits, promoting differences within and between populations. Studies of population structure and selection signatures in Colombian Creole breeds are scarce, and need more attention to better understand genetic differentiation, gene flow, and genetic distance. This study aimed to analyze the population structure and identify selection imprints in the Criollo Caqueteño (CAQ) population. It used 127 CAQ animals genotyped with Chip HD 777,000 SNPs. The population structure analyses used discriminant principal component analysis (DAPC), integrated haplotype scoring (iHS), and index-fixing (Fst) methodologies to detect selection signals. We can highlight SNP regions on the genes TMPRSS15, PGAM2, and EGFR, identified by the Fst method. Additionally, the iHS regions for cluster 1 identified candidate genes on BTA 3 (CMPK1 and FOXD2), BTA 11 (RCAN1), and BTA 22 (ARPP21). In group 2, we can highlight the genes on BTA 4 (SLC13A4, BRAF), BTA 9 (ULBP), BTA 14 (CSMD3) and BTA 19 (KRTAP9-2). These candidate genes have been associated with fertility traits, precocity, growth, and environmental and disease resistance, indicating a genetic potential in CAQ animals. All this promotes a better understanding of the diversity and genetic structure in the CAQ population. Based on that, our study can significantly assist the sustainable development and conservation of the breed in the Colombian Amazon.

Utilizing multiple views of an image is an important approach in digital photography, video editing, and medical image fusion applications. Image fusion (ImF) methods are used to improve an image's quality and remove noise from the image signal, resulting in a higher signal-to-noise ratio. A complete assessment of the literature on the different transform kinds, techniques, and rules utilized in ImF is presented in this paper. To assess the outcomes, a white flower image was fused using discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and discrete cosine transform (DCT) techniques. For validation of results, the red, green, blue (RGB) and intensity hue saturation (IHS) values of individual and fused images were evaluated. The results obtained from the fused images with the spatial IHS transform method give a remarkable performance. Furthermore, the results of the performance evaluation using DWT and DCT fusion techniques show that the same peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) of 114.04 was achieved for both PSNR 1 and PSNR 2 for DCT, and different results were obtained for DWT. For signal to noise ratio (SNR), SNR 1 and SNR 2 achieved slightly similar values of 114.00 and 114.01 for DCT, while a SNR of 113.28 and 112.26 was achieved for SNR 1 and SNR 2 respectively.

ABSTRACT The sedimentary-stratigraphic record is regularly considered only in the context of regional climate, tectonic configuration, and sea-level. In this study we provide examples of how biotically influenced autogenic processes may come to be overprinted on these extrinsic, allogenic controls. A sedimentological analysis is given for the Mississippian (Visean) siliciclastic strata which crop out in counties Donegal and Mayo in NW Ireland. Eleven sedimentary facies record deposition of dominantly clastic and humic organic sediments which accumulated in alluvial, fluvial, estuarine, and fully marine environments. The preserved architecture of the sedimentary deposits is shown to be dependent on local autogenic dynamics, processes that were in turn modified or entirely controlled by biota (“biosphere signatures”). Sedimentological criteria, specifically the type and distribution of preserved biosphere signatures, suggests deposition occurred in a dominantly wet, humid environment in keeping with Laurussia's proposed equatorial position but potentially at odds with previous suggestions of seasonal aridity. The humid climate and resultant perennially active water conduits facilitated the widespread preservation of inclined heterolithic stratification (IHS). Allogenic and autogenic processes are ultimately linked, with external factors such as sea-level, tectonics, and climate all impacting the spatial distribution, abundance and prevailing forms of biota. The flooding of the Laurussian continent is accompanied by a shift from plant-induced to animal-induced biosphere signatures basinwards of the estuary funnel. In this way, the interplay between allogenic and autogenic processes is recorded at sedimentary outcrop through the capacity of extrinsic forcings to influence the rates and locations of intrinsic life-sediment interactions.

This article describes how sequential data modeling is a relevant task in Cybersecurity. Sequences are attributed temporal characteristics either explicitly or implicitly. Recurrent neural networks (RNNs) are a subset of artificial neural networks (ANNs) which have appeared as a powerful, principle approach to learn dynamic temporal behaviors in an arbitrary length of large-scale sequence data. Furthermore, stacked recurrent neural networks (S-RNNs) have the potential to learn complex temporal behaviors quickly, including sparse representations. To leverage this, the authors model network traffic as a time series, particularly transmission control protocol / internet protocol (TCP/IP) packets in a predefined time range with a supervised learning method, using millions of known good and bad network connections. To find out the best architecture, the authors complete a comprehensive review of various RNN architectures with its network parameters and network structures. Ideally, as a test bed, they use the existing benchmark Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency / Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (DARPA) / (KDD) Cup ‘99' intrusion detection (ID) contest data set to show the efficacy of these various RNN architectures. All the experiments of deep learning architectures are run up to 1000 epochs with a learning rate in the range [0.01-0.5] on a GPU-enabled TensorFlow and experiments of traditional machine learning algorithms are done using Scikit-learn. Experiments of families of RNN architecture achieved a low false positive rate in comparison to the traditional machine learning classifiers. The primary reason is that RNN architectures are able to store information for long-term dependencies over time-lags and to adjust with successive connection sequence information. In addition, the effectiveness of RNN architectures are shown for the UNSW-NB15 data set.

Cette étude concerne les sables bitumineux Crétacé de l’Athabasca, au Canada. Du fait de la forte viscosité des hydrocarbures, il est important de caractériser les hétérogénéités internes de ces réservoirs. Ce travail se base sur la stratigraphie, la sédimentologie, la modélisation réservoir et les simulations de production dans les sables à IHS (“Inclined Heterolithic Stratification”) de la formation du McMurray. Les études centrées sur les faciès, les ichnofaciès et les palynofaciès soulignent quatre environnements de dépôts: (i) un environnement continental; (ii) un environnement fluvio-estuarien; (iii) un environnement marin restreint; (iv) un environnement marin ouvert. Ces environnements de dépôts ne sont pas synchrones et les études montrent des séquences d’incision-remplissage de vallées incisées depuis la fin du Barrémien jusqu’au début de l’Albien. Les réservoirs à IHS sont contenus dans des dépôts de barres de méandre influencées par les courants tidaux dans un environnement saumâtre des cortèges transgressifs fluvio-estuariens. L’antagonisme existant entre les processus fluviaux et tidaux génère des hétérogénéités réservoir traduites par (i) des dépôts d’argiles à l’origine des IHS, (ii) des surfaces de réactivations et (iii) des accumulations de brèches argileuses. Ces hétérogénéités sont prises en compte dans la construction d’un modèle stratigraphique de terrain dans lequel est réalisé une modélisation réservoir et une simulation de récupération de bitume. Les simulations présentent des résultats très réalistes. Les hétérogénéités sédimentaires liées aux processus de dépôts, conformes à une ligne temps, sont restituées dans le modèle stratigraphique

Ce manuscrit de thèse propose la première étude sédimentologique exhaustive de l’escarpement du Dur At Talah (150 km de long sur 120 m de hauteur). Ce dernier affleure dans la dépression d’Abu Tumayam, dans la partie méridionale du Bassin de Syrte (Libye). La Formation du Dur At Talah offre une séquence sédimentaire régressive (au 2nd ordre), allant de faciès marins peu profonds à des faciès fluviatiles, datée de l’Eocène supérieur. Les exceptionnelles conditions d'affleurement ont permis une analyse sédimentologique approfondie (lithofaciès, ichnofaciès, géométries et découpage séquentiel) conduisant à une caractérisation multiscalaire d'un système margino-littoral dominé par la dynamique tidale. Parmi les résultats saillants de cette étude figure l'identification de deux processus sédimentaires : la progradation signée par des structures clinoformes et l’accrétion latérale caractérisée par des stratifications hétérolithiques inclinées (IHS). Dès lors, plusieurs corps sédimentaires se distinguent sans ambiguïté tel que les barres d’embouchure hétérolithiques et les barres de méandres de chenaux tidaux. L'auscultation de ces grands corps sédimentaires permet alors d'en définir les critères de reconnaissance et le contexte séquentiel de mise en place, mais aussi d'en contraindre le potentiel réservoir
This manuscript provides the first exhaustive sedimentological study of the Dur At Talah escarpment (≈120 m high and ≈150 km length). This latter is exposed in the Abu Tumayam Trough, in the southern Sirt Basin (Libya). The Dur At Talah Formation forms a 2nd order regressive sequence, from shallow marine to fluviatile deposits, dated as upper Eocene. This exceptional outcrop allows an extensive and detailed sedimentological analysis (lithofaciès, ichnofaciès, geometries and sequence stratigraphy) leading to a multi-scale characterization of nearshore to paralic environments dominated by tidal dynamic. Among outstanding results, two sedimentary processes have been recognized and characterized: the progradation is expressed by large-scale clinoform structures and the lateral accretion is characterized by inclined heterolithic stratifications (IHS). Several sedimentary bodies are, thus, unequivocally distinguishable such as heterolithic mouth-bars and tidal channel point-bars. Thorough analysis of these sedimentary bodies allows to define diagnostic criteria to recognize them. They can be replaced in a consistent stratigraphic framework explaining their architecture and their vertical evolution in order to be used as reservoir analog

Fiber deployment is becoming popular and is seen as a way to increase a community’s attractiveness to new inhabitants and companies. A new Open Access network is emerging, leading to a more horizontal network architecture. Combining this architecture with IMS enables developers to easily develop new and attractive services. To facilitate the development of new IMS services there needs to be an easy to use development environment and a reliable hardware/software platform upon which to deploy them. This thesis project will explore the design, development, and evaluation of new IMS applications targeted at municipal networks as well as the service platforms they are deployed on. The thesis will also examined what role IMS plays in Municipalities and why they may need a tailored IMS solution. During the thesis a reference network for Municipalities was put together and tested. Different service platforms were tested and evaluated.
Fiberutbyggnad har blivit mycket populärt och ses som ett sätt att öka en stads attraktivitet för nya invånare och företag. Ett nytt öppen nät håller på att växa fram, detta leder till en mer horisontell nätverksarkitektur. Kombinera denna arkitektur med IMS så kan utvecklare lättare utveckla nya och attraktiva tjänster. För att underlätta utvecklingen av nya IMS-tjänster måste det finnas ett lättanvänd utvecklingsmiljö och en pålitlig hårdvaru/mjukvaru plattform att installera dem på. Detta examensarbete kommer att undersöka design, utveckling och utvärdering av nya IMSlösningar riktade till standsnät samt de tjänsteplattformar de används på. Rapporten kommer även granska vilken roll IMS spelar i stadsnät och varför de kan behöva en skräddarsydd IMS-lösning. Under examensarbetet byggdes och testades ett referensnätverk. Olika tjänsteplatformar testades och utvärderades.

Avec l'évolution exponentielle de l'Internet des Objets (IoT), assurer la sécurité des réseaux est devenue un grand défi pour les administrateurs réseaux. La sécurité des réseaux est basée sur de multiples équipements indépendants tels que Firewall, IDS/IPS, NAC dont le rôle principal est de contrôler les informations échangées entre le réseau de l'entreprise et l'extérieur. Or, l'administration de ces équipements peut s'avérer très complexe et fastidieuse si elle est réalisée manuellement, équipement après équipement. L'introduction du concept de Software Defined Networking (SDN) depuis ces dernières années, et du protocole OpenFlow, offre beaucoup d'opportunités pour l'amélioration de la sécurité des réseaux en proposant une administration centralisée et programmable.Dans le cadre de cette thèse, nous avons proposé une nouvelle approche de sécurisation des échanges dans un réseau en fonction des événements détectés et de manière automatisée. Cette solution basée sur l'approche SDN couplé avec un système de détection d'intrusion permet d’analyser, de détecter et de supprimer des menaces de sécurité dans un réseau et de manière automatisée. En implémentant cette solution, nous contribuons à faire évoluer la manière de sécuriser les échanges dans un réseau avec du SDN couplé avec un IDS à travers la mise en place d'une architecture réelle de cas d'usage. Ainsi, la gestion de la sécurité du réseau devient simplifiée, dynamique et évolutive
With the exponential evolution of the Internet of Things (IoT), ensure the network security has become a big challenge for networkadministrators. Traditionally, the network security is based on multiple independent devices such as firewall, IDS/IPS, NAC where the main role is to monitor the information exchanged between the inside and the outside perimeters of the enterprises networks. However, the administration of these network devices can be complex and tedious with an independent manual configuration. Recently, with the introduction of the Software Defined Networking concept (SDN) and the OpenFlow protocol offers many opportunities by providing a centralized and programmable network administration.As part of this research work, we proposed a new approach to secure the network traffic flows exchanges based on a method of events detection, in an automated manner. This solution is based on the SDN approach coupled to an intrusion detection system which allows analyze, detect and remove security threats. With the implementation, we contribute to change the paradigm of secure the network traffic flows exchanges using the SDN principle, coupled with an IDS in a real use case architecture. In this way, the management of network security becomes simplified, dynamic and scalable

The quick development of air traffic has led to the improvement of approach and landing operations by using flexible flight paths and by decreasing the minima required to perform these operations. Most of the aircraft operations are supported by the GNSS augmented with GBAS, SBAS and ABAS. SBAS or GBAS allow supporting navigation operations down to precision approaches. However, these augmentations do require an expensive network of reference receivers and real-time broadcast to the airborne user. To overcome, the ABAS system integrates on-board information provided by an INS so as to enhance the performance of the navigation system. In that scheme, INS is coupled with a GPS receiver in a GPS/baro-INS hybridization solution that is already performed on current commercial aircraft. This solution allows reaching better performance in terms of accuracy, integrity, availability and continuity than the two separated solutions. However the most stringent requirements for precision approaches or automatic landings cannot be fulfilled with the current hybridization. The main idea of this PhD study is then to extend the hybridization process by including other sensors already available on commercial aircraft or not and, to assess the performance reached by a global hybridization architecture. It aims at providing most of the navigation parameters in all operations with the required level of performance. The operations targeted by this hybridization are precision approaches, with a particular focus on CAT III precision approach and roll out on the runway. The study of video sensor has been particularly focused on in the thesis. Indeed video based navigation is a complete autonomous navigation opportunity only based on sensors that provide information from the dynamic of the vehicle and from the observation of the scenery. Moreover, from a possible compensation of any loss or degradation of a navigation system to the improvement of the navigation solution during the most critical operations, the interests of video are numerous.

As network uses increase rapidly and high quality-of-service (QoS) is required, efficient network managing methods become important. Many previous studies and commercial tools of network management systems such as tcpdump, Ethereal, and other applications have weaknesses: limited size of files, command line execution, and large memory and huge computational power requirement. Researchers struggle to find fast and effective analyzing methods to save maintenance budgets and recover from systematic problems caused by the rapid increment of network traffic or intrusions. The main objective of this study is to propose an approach to deal with a large amount of network behaviors being quickly and efficiently analyzed. We study an ontology/data engineering methodology based network analysis system. We design a behavior, which represents network traffic activity and network packet information such as IP addresses, protocols, and packet length, based on the System Entity Structure (SES) methodology. A significant characteristic of SES, a hierarchical tree structure, enables systems to access network packet information quickly and efficiently. Also, presenting an automated system design is the secondary purpose of this study. Our approach shows adaptive awareness of pragmatic frames (contexts) and makes a network traffic analysis system with high throughput and a fast response time that is ready to respond to user applications. We build models and run simulations to evaluate specific purposes, i.e., analyzing network protocols use, evaluating network throughput, and examining intrusion detection algorithms, based on Discrete Event System Specification (DEVS) formalism. To study speed up, we apply a web-based distributed simulation methodology. DEVS/Service Oriented Architecture (DEVS/SOA) facilitates deploying workloads into multi-servers and consequently increasing overall system performance. In addition to the scalability limitations, both tcpdump and Ethereal have a security issue. As well as basic network traffic information, captured files by these tools contain secure information: user identification numbers and passwords. Therefore, captured files should not allow to be leaked out. However, network analyses need to be performed outside target networks in some cases. The distributed simulation--allocating distributing models inside networks and assigning analyzing models outside networks--also allows analysis of network behaviors out of networks while keeping important information secured.

Les réseaux mobiles ont un modèle en couches, avec: (1) un réseau d'accès IP offrant une connectivité IP aux utilisateurs; (2) une couche de contrôle de service, l'IMS; (3) une couche d'interaction pour le contrôle des politiques réseau, le PCC. Ce modèle, centralisé et hiérarchique, serait à l'origine de problèmes de passage à l'échelle et de qualité de service en cas d'explosion du volume de trafic de données à transporter. Dans cette thèse, un nouveau modèle pour les réseaux mobiles du futur est proposé: Ultra Flat Architecture (UFA). UFA utilise l'IMS pour le contrôle de tout type d'applications. UFA est dite plate car elle réduit le nombre de types de nœuds réseau à 2 principalement: (1) une Gateway UFA regroupant à la fois l'ensemble des fonctionnalités du réseau d'accès IP, de l'IMS et du PCC; (2) le terminal. Après la conception de l'architecture, nous avons spécifié et évalué trois procédures réseau principales pour UFA : l'enregistrement/authentification, l'établissement de service et la mobilité. Nous avons optimisé les deux premières procédures par rapport aux procédures standardisées de l'IMS. Par exemple, la procédure d'établissement de service présente un délai réduit et permet une configuration du service ou de la couche de transport selon les ressources disponibles dans le réseau. Nous avons développé une procédure de mobilité pour UFA, se basant sur le transfert, d'une Gateway UFA à une autre, des contextes de toutes les couches OSI liés au terminal, et sur la détermination proactive par la Gateway UFA des paramètres de toutes les couches du terminal. Tous les résultats obtenus montrent le grand intérêt d'UFA et des architectures plates plus généralement.

The catastrophic Sicilian earthquake of 1693 led to the rebuilding of over 60 towns in the island’s south-west. The rebuilding extended into the eighteenth century and gave opportunities for the reassertion and the transformation of power relations. Although eight of the towns are now protected by UNESCO, the remarkable architecture resulting from this rebuilding is little known outside Sicily. This is the first book-length study in English of this interesting area of early modern architecture. Rather than seek to address all of the towns, five case studies discuss key aspects of the rebuilding by approaching the architecture from different scales, from that of a whole town to parts of a town, or single buildings, or parts of buildings and their decoration. Each case study also investigates a different theoretical assumption in architecture, including ideas of the Baroque, rational planning, and the relegation of decoration in architectural discourse.

The recent trend in microprocessor architecture has been to increase the number of transistors (higher power), shrink processor size (smaller die), and increase clock speeds (higher frequency) in order to meet the market demand for high performance microprocessors. These have resulted in the escalation of power dissipation as well as the heat flux at the silicon die level. The Intel packaging technology development group has been challenged to develop packaging solutions that not only meet the package thermal targets but also the reliability requirements. As a result, an integrated heat spreading (IHS) package was developed, comprising a Cu based heat spreader and a first level thermal interface material (TIM) between the die and the heat spreader. Due to CTE mismatches between its different elements, the IHS package is subjected to high level of thermo-mechanical stresses which lead to severe failures post reliability testing. A significant amount of theoretical understanding of thermal resistance has been developed and applied to the development of TIM formulations, and it was found that the thermo-mechanical properties of the TIM material need to be optimized to mitigate the package reliability stresses. Several material and process solutions have been investigated using fundamental approaches, and, as a result of these efforts, low stress silicone gel TIM’s were developed. This paper provides an overview of the silicone gel TIM technologies investigated at Intel, and the key learnings from the fundamental material and package integration studies.

In automotive electronics, new technologies are getting integrated into basic framework creating ways for new software-defined architectures. Virtualization is one of most discussed technologies which will offer a functionality growth into architecture of automobile. This paper introduces concept of validating test cases from multiple IPs on virtualised framework and also investigate the feasibility of implementing protection mechanism on memory segment dedicated for a virtual machine (VM). We describe a proof-of-concept which can be used to promote the use of virtualisation to extend the coverage of post silicon validation. Experimental results are presented as a quantitative evaluation of using virtualization for different testcase scenarios.

<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Automotive megatrends such as connected, autonomous and electrified vehicles are driving penetration of automotive electronic technology in every vehicle subsystem. However, these electronic units need to be interfaced with input/output devices from outside world. The same need to be interfaced with a robust and reusable architecture conforming to automotive norms. When generic electronic control units (ECUs) need to be reused across diverse vehicle families and segments, it is desirable that every ECU pin interfaced with the outside world needs to be capable of performing multiple tasks. This is particularly true of digital outputs (such as solenoids, lamps, on/off motors etc.) and digital inputs (such as command switches, pushbuttons, pressure switches, thermal switches etc.) Current smart switch peripheral ICs can be used only as outputs and cannot be configured as inputs whenever demanded by application requirements. Also, these smart switch architectures provide conservatively generic solutions which prove to be “over engineered” for many digital output solutions such as simple LED or Solenoid controls. This paper proposes a novel smart switch cum input interface architecture which can be optimally tailored to a given set of output load requirements such as current profile, thermal requirements, protection on one hand and a simple digital on/off input interface on the other hand. The architecture design employs a system engineering technique which lists performance requirements and explores alternate architectures to meet the same. All the alternatives are rated on various performance metrics to arrive at the rightmost choice fitting a given application. The paper ends with a design example which covers both hardware philosophy and a state machine based low level command/diagnostic driver. Future directions and opportunities for this solution are discussed at the end.</div></div>

Abstract The Lower Cretaceous McMurray Formation in the Athabasca Oil Sands consists of channel belt deposits formed from meandering river systems. Large-scale fluvial point bars and other components of meander-belts compose this heterogeneous formation and are the source of complex sedimentary facies relationships. Recognition and correct interpretation of the spatial facies distribution, hence connectivity of the reservoir system, is essential to optimal field development and project economics. It is, therefore, crucial to understand river depositional processes, link associated facies to connectivity metrics, and implement them in flow modelling for hydrocarbon exploration. In the geological modelling phase, we analyzed data collected through high-density drilling, extensive coring, and three-dimensional (3D) seismic to map the internal stratigraphic architecture for different reservoir levels. The model captures the 3D representation of different depositional elements, including point bars, counter point bars, side bars, and abandoned channel fills. The deterministic interpretations constrain the stochastic simulation of the reservoir parameters, and distinct morphology, facies associations, and reservoir potential characterize the zones. Our workflow improves the geological realism of subsurface models and allows quantitative analysis of the spatial uncertainty. Including depositional bedding geometries in the modelling helps reduce uncertainties in net continuous bitumen estimations. It improves the knowledge of reservoir connectivity and compartmentalization. The ultra-defined model provides the framework for detailed analysis and optimal field development. This paper presents a new computationally efficient measure for connectivity based on detailed geological interpretations and mapping inclined heterolithic strata (IHS) in point bar deposits. In the calculations, we account for: facies distributions, porosity, permeability along the principal flow axis, and oil saturation,pressure and elevation (potential energy gradients),well locations, andtortuosity of the fluid flow streamlines. To evaluate the effect of sedimentary heterogeneities on key reservoir performance indicators, we formulate the reservoir connectivity as a mathematical optimization problem and estimate the flux in the connected porosity. Applying the methodology on a point-bar deposit shows that the connectivity factor strongly correlates with the ensuing recovery responses. This novel, computationally inexpensive approach captures the uncertainty in reservoir rock distributions and provides a quick and practical measurement for decision-making in reservoir management problems. Its features enable evaluating multiple reservoir parameters and using Monte Carlo techniques to quantify uncertainty and risk propagation in the presence of geological uncertainty to rank field portfolios. In the SAGD examples, the method estimates steam chamber development and conformance with high confidence, supporting optimal well placement for new development wells and infill drilling, optimizing the well spacing and orientation.

As an emerging field, Automated Machine Learning (AutoML) aims to reduce or eliminate manual operations that require expertise in machine learning. In this paper, a graph-based architecture is employed to represent flexible combinations of ML models, which provides a large searching space compared to tree-based and stacking-based architectures. Based on this, an evolutionary algorithm is proposed to search for the best architecture, where the mutation and heredity operators are the key for architecture evolution. With Bayesian hyper-parameter optimization, the proposed approach can automate the workflow of machine learning. On the PMLB dataset, the proposed approach shows the state-of-the-art performance compared with TPOT, Autostacker, and auto-sklearn. Some of the optimized models are with complex structures which are difficult to obtain in manual design.

An economic and population boom in the 1890s created opportunities for architects to find work and fame in Western Australia. Architecture, therefore, became a viable profession for the first time, and the number of practicing architects in the colony (and then state) quickly grew. Associations such as the Western Australian Institute of Architects were established to organise the profession, but as the number of architects grew and Western Australian society matured, it became evident that a role for government was required to ensure practice standards and consumer protection. In 1921, therefore, the Architects Act was passed, and, in the following year, the Architects Board of Western Australia was launched. This report traces the evolution and transformation of professional architectural practice since then, and evaluates the role and impact of the Board in its first century.

As an emerging field, the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) has a myriad of security vulnerabilities that must be addressed to protect system integrity. To stay ahead of novel attacks, cybersecurity professionals are developing new software and systems using machine learning techniques. Neural network architectures improve such systems, including Intrusion Detection System (IDSs), by implementing anomaly detection, which differentiates benign data packets from malicious ones. For an IDS to best predict anomalies, the model is trained on data that is typically pre-processed through normalization and feature selection/reduction. These pre-processing techniques play an important role in training a neural network to optimize its performance. This research studies the impact of applying normalization techniques as a pre-processing step to learning, as used by the IDSs. The impacts of pre-processing techniques play an important role in training neural networks to optimize its performance. This report proposes a Deep Neural Network (DNN) model with two hidden layers for IDS architecture and compares two commonly used normalization pre-processing techniques. Our findings are evaluated using accuracy, Area Under Curve (AUC), Receiver Operator Characteristic (ROC), F-1 Score, and loss. The experimentations demonstrate that Z-Score outperforms no-normalization and the use of Min-Max normalization.

NIST Special Publication 800-207 defines zero trust as a set of cybersecurity principles used when planning and implementing an enterprise architecture. These principles apply to endpoints, services, and data flows. Input and cooperation from various stakeholders in an enterprise is needed for a zero trust architecture to succeed in improving the enterprise security posture. Some of these stakeholders may not be familiar with risk analysis and management. This document provides an overview of the NIST Risk Management Framework (NIST RMF) and how the NIST RMF can be applied when developing and implementing a zero trust architecture.
