The emerging technology of wireless sensor network (WSN) is expected to provide a broad range of applications, such as battlefield surveillance, environmental monitoring, smart spaces and so on. The coverage problem is a fundamental issue in WSN, which may cause due to low residual energy of nodes or poor installment. But in order to get full coverage of sensing area Coverage problem must be avoided. If the problem is unavoidable the coverage hole must be healed. Current hole healing algorithms uses complicated hole detection strategies like TENT rule. This project seeks to address the problem of hole detection and healing in mobile WSNs by deploying mobile sensors in the network, which is called hybrid sensor network. An enhanced hole detection and healing method (MHEAL) is proposed. MHEAL is a distributed and localized algorithm that operates in two distinct phases. First, is Distributed Hole Detection (DHD) proposed to identify the boundary nodes and discover holes. Second, is hole healing which uses a virtual forces based hole healing approach where only the nodes located at an appropriate distance from the hole and the nodes having maximum energy will be involved in the healing process. Unlike existing algorithms, proposed algorithm uses QURD based node detection and energy efficient Hole healing and thus solves the problem of hole with 100% coverage, minimum node movements and minimum node distance travelled thus giving a cost efficient solution.

Background: The aim of this study is to compare the effect of Bone Morphogenetic Proteins (rhBMP), carried on a gelatin sponge scaffold in comparison with the Xenograft BioOss® in the management of bone defects. Case presentation: The case is a one-year-old rabbit that had 4 identical holes 5*5 mm within the femur bone, BMP2 was placed within the first hole with a gelatin sponge, and the second defect was left empty. A gelatin sponge was placed alone within the third hole, and a BioOss® graft was placed within the last defect. The radiographic evaluation was conducted (1 and 2) months after the surgical work, and the histological assessment was conducted two months after the surgical work. Results: The results of the radiographic evaluation found that healing the BMP2 hole was better than healing in the empty and the gelatin sponge group holes. There was no big difference between the healing in the holes filled with rhBMP2 with gelatin sponge and the healing in the holes filled with BioOss®. Conclusion: The use of a gelatin sponge impregnated with Bone Morphogenetic Proteins improves and accelerates the healing of bone defects and is comparable to the effectiveness of using a BioOss® graft.

The emerging trends of wireless sensor network (WSN) are estimated to afford a wide range of applications, such as battlefield surveillance, environmental monitoring, and smart spaces and so on. The coverage problem is an essential concern in the WSN. In this paper seeks to address the problem of hole detection and healing in mobile WSNs. This paper discuss the main drawbacks of existing solutions and identify four key elements that are critical for ensuring effective coverage in mobile WSNs: (i) Identifying the boundary of Region of Interest, (ii) Finding the coverage holes and estimating their characteristics, (iii) Identifying the best target locations to relocate mobile nodes to repair holes, and (iv) Dispatching mobile nodes to the target locations while minimizing the moving and messaging cost. This paper proposes a lightweight and comprehensive solution called Holes detection and healing, that addresses all of the aforementioned aspects. HEAL is a distributed and localized algorithm that operates in two distinct phases. First, a collaborative mechanism, called Distributed Hole Detection (DHD), is proposed to identify the boundary nodes and discover holes. Second, this paper presents a virtual force- based hole healing algorithm. Unlike existing algorithms, HEAL algorithm relocates only the adequate nodes within the shortest times with the lowest cost. Simulation results shows that HEAL provide a cost-effective and an accurate solution.

Анотація:
Purpose. To investigate the healing process and functional recovery of neuroretina after idiopathic macular hole surgery, as well as analyzing the influencing factors. Methods. Thirty-six eyes of 31 patients with full-thickness idiopathic macular hole (IMH) were enrolled in this retrospective study. All of them were operated using 23-gauge or 25-gauge vitrectomy with inner limiting membrane peeling and air tamponade. Spectral-domain optical coherence tomography was performed before surgery and after surgery to observe the structural changes of neuroretina. Results. Twenty eyes (55.56%) had the macular hole closed at 3 to 5 days after surgery (closed group), beginning from the inner retina based on OCT. Holes of 16 eyes (44.44%) remained unclosed and progressed to larger holes at 13 to 15 days (t = −2.811, P=0.013) after surgery (unclosed group). Compared with the eyes in the closed group, the eyes in the unclosed group had significantly larger hole diameter (t = −2.882, P=0.007). Postoperative BCVA was significantly improved in the closed group (t = 2.573, P=0.019) and not improved in the unclosed group (t = 0.606, P=0.554) at the 6-month follow-up. Conclusion. Full-thickness IMHs could achieve anatomic closure 3 to 5 days after surgery with first-step inner retina tissue bridging. Otherwise, they were not able to achieve hole closure and opened to larger holes about 2 weeks postoperatively. Macular hole diameter was an important factor affecting the healing of the holes. The delayed restoration of fovea detachment and ellipsoid area deficiency were responsible for poor vision outcomes after surgery.

Анотація:
The controlled dynamization of fractures can promote natural fracture healing by callus formation, while overly rigid fixation can suppress healing. The advent of locked plating technology enabled new strategies for the controlled dynamization of fractures, such as far cortical locking (FCL) screws or active plates with elastically suspended screw holes. However, these strategies did not allow for the use of non-locking screws, which are typically used to reduce bone fragments to the plate. This study documents the first in vivo study on the healing of ovine tibia osteotomies stabilized with an advanced active plate (AAP). This AAP allowed plate application using any combination of locking and non-locking screws to support a wide range of plate application techniques. At week 9 post-surgery, tibiae were harvested and tested in torsion to failure to assess the healing strength. The five tibiae stabilized with an AAP regained 54% of their native strength and failed by spiral fracture through a screw hole, which did not involve the healed osteotomy. In comparison, tibiae stabilized with a standard locking plate recovered 17% of their strength and sustained failure through the osteotomy. These results further support the stimulatory effect of controlled motion on fracture healing. As such, the controlled dynamization of locked plating constructs may hold the potential to reduce healing complications and may shorten the time to return to function. Integrating controlled dynamization into fracture plates that support a standard fixation technique may facilitate the clinical adoption of dynamic plating.

L'éclatement du film océanique est un phénomène où un film liquide mince, représentant le chapeau de la bulle, éclate à la surface de l'océan, produisant des gouttelettes de film. Ce phénomène est crucial dans les échanges océan-atmosphère, en particulier dans le transfert de chaleur, de masse et de quantité de mouvement entre l'océan et l'atmosphère. L'éclatement du film implique une série de dynamiques complexes, telles que le drainage, la perforation, la rétraction du film et la désintégration en gouttelettes. La cicatrisation des trous (c’est-à-dire lorsqu’un trou est trop petit et se referme après sa nucléation) est un paramètre essentiel pouvant influencer la dynamique de l'éclatement du film, en particulier l'épaisseur du film lors de l'éclatement et, par conséquent, le budget liquide pour la production de gouttelettes de film. Cette étude approfondit la dynamique des trous dans les films liquides libres, avec des simulations numériques et des approches analytiques. Oceanic film bursting is a phenomenon in which a thin liquid film representing the cap of the bubble bursts at the surface of the ocean, producing film drops. The film bursting phenomenon is critical in ocean-atmosphere exchanges, particularly in transferring heat, mass, and momentum between the ocean and the atmosphere. The film bursting phenomenon comprises a series of complex dynamics, such as drainage, puncture, film retraction, and film disintegration into film drops. The hole healing (i.e., when a hole is too small and is closed after its nucleation) is a critical parameter that could impact the film bursting dynamics, particularly the film thickness at bursting and, thus, the liquid budget for the film drop production. The present work investigates the dynamics of holes in free liquid films, presenting a comprehensive understanding of the hole-healing phenomenon while focusing on the film bursting in the oceanic context. This was achieved through a combination of numerical simulations and analytical approaches. The numerical simulations were carried out using Basilisk. This robust and efficient two-phase flow solver is based on a Volume-of-Fluid (VoF) method and written using the C-programming language. The underlying mechanism for the hole-healing phenomenon was studied in detail. The dichotomy simulations for the determination of the healing threshold carried out in this work have used high-resolution mesh refinement. This was possible by using an adaptive mesh scheme provided by Basilisk. The analytical approaches were used to develop hypotheses to predict the healing threshold of a hole on a film, which were tested against numerical results. The critical dynamics of the hole are examined, and distinct power laws were identified for the tip curvature to illustrate the driving mechanism. The variations in the hole healing threshold with other problem parameters were examined. This study was first carried out for a flat film, discovering that the healing threshold is increased by increasing the film Laplace number. This effect was pronounced for values ranging from 1 to 10000, coinciding with the customary range of film Laplace numbers observed for oceanic bursting bubbles. The observed effects were also elaborated upon, along with physical explanations. Since the exact initial shape of the hole was shown to influence the healing threshold, an examination was carried out to study this effect on the consistency of the results from changing the film Laplace number, taken as an example for the other. It was shown that despite variations in the threshold for different shapes, the effect of changing the film Laplace number was independent of the hole shape. Therefore, the dichotomy results were shown to be independent of the arbitrary choice of the hole shape throughout the study. A similar study was carried out for a hole in a bubble cap after a detailed study of the bubble and gas outflow dynamics. It was discovered that the gas outflow undergoes a Venturi effect, where a stronger outflow, resulting from smaller bubble sizes or higher gas Laplace numbers, was shown to increase the healing threshold. A hypothesis was developed to predict the Venturi effect on the healing threshold, resulting in a Venturi correction term that predicted a power law dependency on the bubble diameter, which agreed with the numerical results. The Venturi effect was significant for high values of the gas Laplace number, where the healing threshold was doubled by increasing the film mean curvature from a flat film to a bubble cap with a size 20 times the bubble cap thickness. These findings provide a comprehensive understanding of the hole-healing phenomenon, particularly in oceanic film bursting. The present work also offers a foundation for future studies on the film-bursting phenomenon involving complex dynamics, including hole healing

Introduction A full-thickness macular hole (FTMH) is a round deformity in the fovea that involve alllayers of the neurosensory retina. The condition is usually symptomatic and is associatedwith a decreased visual acuity (VA). Large FTMHs are associated to a larger decrease in VA.To treat FTMH pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) is performed to repair the hole. There aredifferent dimensions of instruments in PPV but limited information on the outcome usingeach dimension. Aim This study aims to assess the healing rate of large FTMHs after 25-gauge vitrectomy. Methods The study is a retrospective record review. Patients were identified through the surgicalintervention registry at the Department of Ophthalmology, USÖ. The study included largeFTMHs (diameter > 400 μm) who underwent 25-gauge PPV at USÖ between 2015-2017. Results After 25-gauge PPV 19 (82.6%) out of 23 included eyes healed. No significant difference inhealing rate between subgroups of different sized FTMHs was discovered. Out of 4 eyes thatfailed to heal, 1 patient underwent a reoperation and the other 3 either chose not to or it wasdeemed not indicated. A statistically significant increase in mean VA postoperatively wasobserved. The most reported complications postoperatively were gas cataract and atemporary increase in intraocular pressure. In 7 cases the PPV led to an accelerateddevelopment of cataract and cataract surgery. Conclusion The majority of FTMHs healed after 25-gauge PPV and the mean VA increased after surgery.The most common complications were secondary cataract and temporary increase in IOP.

Our beautiful world needs a fine and delicate touch to modify their nature and abstract their essences without changing its soul. The focus of this thesis is to empathize with nature and use it as an instrument to heal the mind and provide comfort to the body. The empathy of architecture with the users and the environment is a key to provide healing. For that reason, the architecture tends to create more than a building; it also creates it's own spirit. This project is a Cancer Treatment Center located in the Andes of Peru, which purpose is to response to the emotions and needs of the patients and staff. Cancer is a complex disease, which can make the patient feel lost in the world. The interplay with nature will create a healing environment and a spiritual retreat, which creates relief and connection with the universe. The building provides the users places to breath deeply, think and connect with each individual belief. The design looks for a natural organic plan, which takes advantage of the light and the surroundings. The green design works as a placebo for the patients, which are passing through theses difficult stages. Following the new trends and trying to separate of the idea of a mega hospital, the center is small in scale, but it has a program, which provides care and treatment at the same time. The walls are strong and solid to show the support and protect the inhabitants, but they are also flexible to blend with the high mountains in the horizon. It also has a green oasis, which is the heart of the project that runs from the beginning to end and merged with the natural slope land. The culture plays an important role in the planning of the design. Adjusting to the customs and beliefs, the building respects the vernacular architecture, and gets inspiration of traditional materials and construction methods that the Inca's empire used like adobe and stone.

The questions driving this inquiry were designed to elicit the meaning body-based healing has brought to those who have endured childhood trauma and engaged in healing practices offered by the field of psychology, including both talk therapy and somatic psychotherapy and practices. The literature in psychology reveals scarce studies that privilege the lived experiences of persons who are in the process of transforming childhood trauma. Therefore, there is need for this study which foregrounds the mind, body, and spiritual lived experiences of trauma and its healing, in participant’s own words.

This study brings forth the stories of four participants who experienced interpersonal childhood trauma and also sought body-based healing modalities. Through the perspective of psyche, outcomes of this study were revealed from a deep, reflective, metaphorical standpoint. This theoretical foundation set the stage for the use of the qualitative method of narrative inquiry. Phenomenological analysis of interviews created a first-person subjective point of view into the experience of developing a deeper body consciousness.

Meaning derived from this study delineated four pathways of healing presented under the refrains of Seeking Healing, What Wants to Live, Living Within Trauma and Healing, and The Awakened Body. From here, the study provides a broader context to the experience of healing that includes the movement from dissociation to awareness in a context of uncertainty. This perspective provides a different consideration of what is happening in the healing process, important for psychotherapists, as well as trauma scholars and practitioners exploring treatments. Most importantly, the outcomes will be of interest to those who are healing from childhood trauma, sketching a trajectory of how body-based therapies and activities potentially transform many aspects of one’s life. Outcomes could guide further research related to the intersections of childhood trauma and long-term healing and transformation.

In Hong Kong, 'green living' (luksik saangwut) is promoted as a way of living that is kind to the Earth and good to the people. It is a grassroots movement that encourages people to take personal responsibility for the environment and the society at large. While most studies of Asia's environmental movements focus on green groups' lobbying tactics and mobilisation strategies, this thesis pays serious attention to individuals' experience of living a green life. Although Hong Kong's green culture is highly influenced by the global appeal to sustainability and environmental protection, its specificities are shaped by the city's social and political climate in a unique historical conjuncture. By focusing on individual experience and their practices of green living in the everyday, I argue that green living in Hong Kong is best understood as 'technologies of the self' wherein new environmental, social, and political subjectivities are formed among the ordinary people. The perceived reciprocity between the act of healing nature and the healing power of nature is an essential element in the formation of green subjectivity in Hong Kong. Not only does green living help people heal and transform themselves, it has also given rise to an embodied politics (santai likhang) that enables people to reimagine a social and political 'otherwise'. Such embodied politics has come to represent a politics of hope that empowers people to confront with the politics of fear that has been looming over Hong Kong since the former British colony was returned to China in 1997. In light of this background, I argue that what the Hong Kong people want to sustain is not just the natural environment, but also the social norms and the ways of living that are thought to distinguish themselves from their counterparts in mainland China.

This thesis examines different aspects of tradition relating to fresh water in Scotland. They include: the use of water from wells and springs for healing and divination purposes; the beliefs around the lin1inal quality of water, often considered as boundary, and around its magical association with the horse; and finally folktales featuring the water-horse, or kelpie, a supernatural creature which was said to inhabit lochs and rivers. In dealing with topics so different one from the other, within the larger field of Scottish customs and beliefs, it proved necessary to use a variety of sources and methods. Comparative study was often particularly illuminating. After presenting the history of visits to sacred wells, I deal with two main categories of customs associated with these pilgrimages, namely healing rituals and divination practices. While the former leads to the analysis of the different stages and implications of the ritual, the latter looks into the issues that were left to supernatural powers to decide upon, and examines how the questions asked of the oracle evolved with time. Consideration of these powers then leads on to further inquiry into the liminal function of fresh water in general, and its links with boundaries both spatial and temporal. That the horse, another element that is ascribed definite liminal qualities, was associated with water is therefore not fortuitous. If water provides an entry to an Other World, the horse can then take one through into this other land. Indeed, this is what is found in the corpus of tales centred on the figure of the waterhorse. As some of the tale-types are met in other geographical areas - Ireland and Scandinavia mainly - a discussion of these will provide a general background to the tales, which will result in a proposal for a revised tale-index. Two shared types -the work-horse and the abductor of children - will then be examined in the Scottish context. One type, however, - the seducer - seems to be unique to Scotland, and it will be dealt with last. The aim of this work is twofold: first, to provide an ethnological piece of research from a diachronic perspective on a subject outwith the usual themes generally chosen for studies of this nature; second, to present together, in their Scottish context, folktales that have been hitherto broken up and read in the light of their relationships to their foreign counterparts. Although recent academic studies on healing wells exist for Ireland and France, the Scottish material has never previously been treated in such a study. A number of sources available were secondary accounts, dating back mainly to the turn of the twentieth century, and part of my research involved finding the original documents used - sometimes misused - in order to present them in their original context. Similarly, part of the work on the kelpie stories involved gathering together tales kept in the Sound Archive of the School of Scottish Studies at the University of Edinburgh that had never been collected into a single corpus. I hope in this thesis to provide a sound basis for further researches on these types of Scottish customs and beliefs.

Abstract Nothing in my formal training prepared me to teach about the history of Chinese healing traditions. As a religion scholar I had, to be sure, studied the history of Chinese religions and, as an anthropologist, had explored the entry of Chinese healing practices into the United States, particularly in Boston, but it was not the same thing. Still, I had friends and colleagues who were historians of Chinese medicine. When offered the chance to design a course of my choice for my spring semester as visiting faculty in the Religion Department at Brown University in 1999, it seemed like a good time to fill in this rather substantial hole in my own background.

Green energy can be classified into many domains such as green aware applications, green aware protocols, green energy harvesting, and many more. The main focus of this chapter is to analyze green energy in terms of energy aware routing protocols and mainly focusing on wireless sensor networks. So, in this domain, greening the routing protocols with energy efficient algorithms is investigated. Energy efficient routing algorithms can be designed by having self-healing concepts whereby routing algorithms can heal themselves when a routing hole is found or nodes can heal themselves when energy depletion occurs. Having that concept in mind, this chapter investigates both the green energy protocols and the self-healing protocols in the literature.

This fictional River of Life illustrates one family’s journey in the borough of Ealing. Based on research from the Enabling Early Child Development in Ealing (ECDE) project, it shows some common challenges faced by local families, but more importantly, how families felt support should be, in order to ensure all children get the best start in life. While every family is unique with diverse backgrounds and needs, we hope this tool sparks discussion about how all healing families can be supported whoever they are.
