Taiwan Green-Mark was authorized by the government so as to put it into practice. However, Taiwan Green-Mark of printing companies is a unique automatic initialization by printing industry. In order to explore the possibility of Taiwan Green-Mark of printing companies, the research method conducted with content analysis, experts interview and panel discussion. It constructs the content of Taiwan Green-Mark of printing companies for eight indicators and its implementation processes. The draft of Taiwan Green-Mark of printing companies mainly referred to Nordic Eco-labelling of Printing Companies in Nordic countries, Environmental marketing CCD-041 and Environmental marketing CCD-141 in Canada while accompanied with domestic environmental bill and pollution control standards. The indicators were built by case studies and experiments in 16 printing companies have been well modified their original design. Printing companies apply its own Taiwan Green-Mark not only improve their products quality but also express good will to environment.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) and sustainable buildings are two future cornerstones of the Architectural, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry. In Singapore’s context, the Green Mark (GM) scoring system is prevalently used to assess the sustainability index of green buildings. BIM provides the semantic and geometry information of buildings, which is proliferated as the technological and process backbone for the green building assessment. This research, through vast literature reviews, identified that the current procedure of achieving a Green Mark score is tedious and cumbersome, which hampers productivity, especially in the calculation of building envelope thermal performance. Furthermore, the project stakeholders work in silos, in a non-collaborative, manual and 2D-based environment for generating relevant documentation to achieve the requisite green mark score. To this end, a cloud-based BIM platform was developed, with the aim of encouraging project stakeholders to collaboratively generate the project’s green mark score digitally in accordance with the regulatory requirements. Through this research, the authors have validated the Envelope Thermal Transfer Value (ETTV) calculation, which is one of the prerequisite criteria to achieve a Green Mark score, through a case study using the developed cloud-based BIM platform. The results indicated that using the proposed platform enhances the productivity and accuracy as far as ETTV calculation is concerned. This study provides a basis for future research in implementing the proposed platform for other criteria under the Green Mark Scheme.

As more and more Asian countries join the global urbanisation trend, numerous negative environmental consequences loom larger than ever, rendering green urbanisation an urgent public policy agenda. This study addresses how Singapore has met this challenge and established itself as one of the world’s greenest urban centres through the implementation of the Green Mark Scheme since 2005. Drawing on the new urban governance literature, this study argues that several conditions have enabled this result. First, the government has steered the design and promotion of the Green Mark Scheme, introducing various legal and regulatory mechanisms to undergird the Green Mark Scheme regime. Second, various financial incentive schemes, risk-sharing programmes and rewards have made the government’s commitment credible, lowering entry barriers for new participants. While these policy instruments and measures echo Singapore’s top–down policy-making tradition and developmental state legacy, the government has increasingly relied on collaborative partnerships with multiple stakeholders to generate positive environmental impacts throughout buildings’ entire life cycles. These elements have created an effective mode of new green urban governance. This study illustrates how policy-makers can facilitate sustainable urbanisation by adopting green initiatives tailored to their local conditions. Moreover, this study argues that green urbanisation entails not just technical aspects but also governance elements.

Green Mark, a certification for Green Building (GB), has become a compulsory requirement for all new buildings in Singapore. The aim of this study is to explore the controllable critical project management factors of Architectural, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) firms for delivering Green Mark certified projects and examine how these factors can be useful. Based on three case projects in Singapore, the factors influencing the success of GB were identified. It was also observed that the higher ratings of the building projects, the more management factors should be given proper attention. The research findings could assist project managers in managing the overall project performance and successfully implementing Green Mark certified projects more effectively.

Sammanfattning

Syfte

Syftet med denna undersökning var att ta reda på hur unga konsumenter födda mellan 1975-85, som flyttat hemifrån uppfattar symbolen ”Nyckelhålet”. Syftet är vidare att ta reda på om det föreligger skillnader mellan en lågprisbutiks respektive normalprisbutiks kunder samt mellan män och kvinnor. För att utröna syftet har jag tagit hjälp av totalt fem frågeställningar: 1. Känner konsumenterna igen symbolen? 2. Hur beskriver konsumenterna sin förståelse för symbolen? 3. Vilka egenskaper tillskriver konsumenterna symbolen? 4. Av vilken anledning väljer respektive väljer inte konsumenten varor märkta med Nyckelhålet? 5. Varifrån har konsumenterna fått kännedom om Nyckelhålet?

Metod

60 respondenter, 30 stycken från en normalprisbutik och 30 stycken från en lågprisbutik, har besvarat en enkät med totalt 21 frågor. 36 av respondenterna var kvinnor och 24 stycken var män. Enkäten utformades med både öppna och slutna frågor. Urvalsgruppen är född mellan 1975-85 och har alla flyttat hemifrån. Enkäten har delats ut i anslutning till varor märkta med Nyckelhålet och där har jag då funnit mina respondenter. Enligt en uppskattning av kundunderlaget nådde jag ut till 33% av kundunderlaget för min urvalsgrupp i lågprisbutiken, och 29% i normalprisbutiken.

Resultat

Alla respondenter utom en kände igen symbolen Nyckelhålet. Konsumenterna förstår Nyckelhålet som en symbol som förmedlar nyttiga/hälsosamma/sunda samt fettsnåla produkter. Konsumenterna beskriver symbolens egenskaper som fettsnål och nyttig/hälsosam. De valde också att köpa produkter med dessa egenskaper. Konsumenterna valde ibland bort dessa varor p.g.a. priset. Media förefaller vara den informationskanal där konsumenterna vanligen fått kännedom om symbolen. Det fanns inga klara skillnader i svaren mellan män och kvinnor eller mellan konsumenter från de olika butikerna.

Slutsats

Unga konsumenter födda 1975-85 som har flyttat hemifrån har förstått Nyckelhålets egenskaper väl. Så gott som alla respondenter känner igen symbolen. Majoriteten av respondenterna uppfattar symbolens innebörd som fettsnål, nyttig och hälsosam. Det är också orsaken till att de konsumerar varor märkta med Nyckelhålet. En stor andel av konsumenterna väljer bort nyckelhålsmärkta produkter på grund av priset. Media förefaller vara den kanal som konsumenterna till störst del fått kännedom om Nyckelhålet. Överlag så skiljer sig män och kvinnors kunskaper om Nyckelhålets egenskaper marginellt. Detsamma gäller för kunderna från lågprisbutiken respektive normalprisbutiken. Tidigare forskning har pekat på att en stor andel av respondenterna tror att Nyckelhålet är en form av miljömärkning, så även i denna undersökning.


Abstract

Aim

The purpose of this research was to find out how consumers born between 1975-85 who has left their parents home comprehend the “Keyhole mark” symbol. The purpose is also to find out if there is any difference between men and women as well as consumers from the low price store and the normal price store. To evaluate this I have chosen five questions as starting points; 1. Do consumers recognize the symbol? 2. How do consumers describe their understanding of the symbol? 3. What qualities do the consumers ascribe to the keyhole mark? 4. What reasons do the consumer have to choose or not choose products with the keyhole mark? 5. From where has the consumer got the knowledge of the keyhole mark?

Method

60 people, 30 customers at a normal price store and 30 customers at a low price store have answered a questionnaire containing 21 questions. 36 of the people responding were women, and 24 were men. The questionnaire contained both open and closed questions. The selected group is born between 1975-85 and all of them have moved out from their parents home. I have been standing next to products marked with the keyhole mark, and there I have found my respondents. According to an estimation of the possible consumers for the stores I have managed to reach 33% of my sample group at the low price store and 29% at the normal price store.

Results

All of the people responding except one recognized the symbol Keyhole mark. The consumers understand the Keyhole mark as a symbol that conveys healthy and low fat products. Consumers describe the symbol as a mark of low fat and healthy food. They also choose to buy products with these qualities. Consumers do sometimes not choose these products due to the price. Media seems to be the information channel from where the consumers mainly have obtained knowledge of the symbol. There are no clear differences between the answers given by men and women, or between the consumers in the two different types of stores.

Conclusions

Consumers born between 1975-85, who has moved out from their parents home understand the keyhole marks properties well. As good as all respondents recognize the symbol. The majority of the respondents describe the symbol as a mark of low fat and healthy food. That is also the reason why they choose to buy these products. A large percentage of the consumers consider these products expensive. Media appears to be the channel, where a great part of the consumers have obtained knowledge about the keyhole mark. Differences between men´s and women’s knowledge about the keyhole mark are marginal. The same scenario concerns the differences between consumers in the low price store and the normal price store. Earlier studies have shown that a great percentage of the consumers consider the keyhole mark to be kind of environmental mark. The same results was found in the present study .

Loggerheads (Caretta caretta) are listed as Threatened and green turtles (Chelonia mydas) are listed as Endangered under the United States Endangered Species Act. While green turtle nest production in Florida has increased markedly in recent years, loggerhead nest production has followed a more tenuous path. Reasons for these differences are unknown. Limited demographic information is available for these species of conservation concern. I used Barker models, which incorporated mark-recapture, live-resight and dead recovery data, implemented in Program MARK. These models were used to estimate apparent survival for immature loggerhead (<85cm SCL) and green turtle (<60cm SCL) populations foraging in the Atlantic Ocean adjacent to the Florida Power and Light St. Lucie Plant on Hutchinson Island, Florida between 2002 and 2011. My results indicated annual apparent survival was decreasing (from 0.75 to 0.59) for resident immature loggerheads and was stable (~0.81) for resident immature green turtles over the ten year study period. I found that permanent emigration models were better supported than no movement models for both species. Size (straight carapace length) was found to be an important covariate for survival and fidelity parameters in the green turtle analysis but not in the loggerhead analysis. My study is the first to compare survival of two species of immature marine turtles foraging at the same location in the Atlantic. These estimates are also the first available survival estimates for immature marine turtle populations in Florida based on modern mark-recapture techniques, filling a critical knowledge gap. This information is vitally important for managers when evaluating the long-term recovery of these endangered species.

The ongoing trend with urban infill often implicates a conflict with urban green areas, which becomes a problem when green areas in cities are declining and when biodiversity is threatened on a global scale. This case study investigates how green areas and existing biological values are prioritized in an area in Malmö where infill is taking place (Översiktsplan för del av Kirseberg). Specifically, planning process and dialogue, on detailed comprehensive planning level, between the municipality and the landowner is analysed and compared with the policy plan for the area. The methods used are semi-structured interviews combining qualitative and quantitative data.The results show that many of the planning policies regarding green areas are prioritized and considered. However, when it comes to preserving existing vegetation and biological values, these policy goals are prioritized lower than the other policies, which leads to postponed conservation measures. Arguments for planning green areas are about structural concerns and attractivity. Municipal planners are concerned about the low amount of green areas and they find that policies and the planning and building act for green areas give a poor support in the planning process.Vague policy goals for green areas make it difficult for planners to balance between the many policy goals they need to consider. Although the actors have common interests and two-sided compromises are done, profit and a high exploitation level are the priorities of the landowner,which leads to fewer green areas. Landownership therefore limits municipal influence to planfor public interests like green areas. Furthermore, the political focus on high exploitation is another reason for this. Insufficient and outdated policies and planning material are also concerns that affects the planning of green areas.Green areas and biological values are not prioritized enough on the detailed comprehensive planning level neither in the policies of the plan, in the planning process nor in other policies. To change this, both planning laws, policies and political will need to prioritize green areas higher. Many studies state that the planning and building act is insufficient for planning green areas that support ecosystem services on private properties. This seems to apply to this case study as well.

Sustainability is quickly becoming one of the hottest topics among green conscious consumers, as well as managers looking to capitalize on the growth of such interests. Wal-Mart, the world’s largest retailer, is currently marketing itself as a pioneer in sustainability, particularly in the retail industry. With innovations such as a Sustainability Index that measures the environmental and social impacts of products stocked by Wal-Mart, the company is currently marketing their efforts as being exceptional among “big box” retailers. However, few studies have tested those claims to determine if they are accurate. The purpose of this research is to gather data about Wal- Mart’s sustainability impacts and determine whether the marketed claims about sustainability programs are as far-reaching as the retailer claims.

The contents of this paper will detail the making of my film Into the Green, a University of New Orleans thesis film. I will examine the processes used to create my film in five parts. Part One will cover the various inspirations and influences that I pulled from to create the story. Part Two will cover the entirety of pre-production and will begin to detail the various collaborators who worked along with me. In Part Three I will discuss the shooting process in Arkansas and in Part Four I will cover the film’s journey through post-production. Finally, in Part Five, I will analyze my filmmaking experience and discuss future plans for Into the Green.

In this article, Constance Robert-Murail will explore the poetic »accidents« at work in two extracts of Black Swan Green (2006) by David Mitchell. The novel tells the trials and musings of Jason Taylor, a thoughtful 13-year-old growing up in a backwater town full of strange neighbours and middle-school bullies. Throughout the year 1982, the reader witnesses Jason mediating between the various personae of his fragmented identity: Unborn Twin, his faint-hearted alter ego; Eliot Bolivar, the nom-de-plume he uses to write poems for the local parish newspaper; and, most importantly, Hangman, a malignant personification of his stammer. According to Garan Holcombe, David Mitchell's own experience of stammering has provided the novelist with a particular »sensitivity toward the formal necessity of coherence and structure« (Holcombe, 2013). The extract I have decided to focus on dramatises the onset of Jason's speech impediment and acts as a »high emotional intensity passage« (Toolan, 2012) within the structure of the coming-of-age narrative. A close stylistic reading of this particular text highlights the juxtaposition of Jason's pathological speechlessness and his bustling, bubbling inner monologue. This opposition elicits a physical reaction within the reader, caught between frustration and delectation. I would argue that the multimodal nature of the extract generates what Pierre-Louis Patoine has called a »somesthetic« effect on the reader (Patoine, 2016). Stuttering, according to Professor Mark Onslow, is »an idiosyncratic disorder.« (Onslow, 2017). Word avoidance has led Jason to create his own grammar and lexicon: his youthful voice and palliative strategies allow Mitchell to smuggle in moments of »accidental« poetry. The cognitive exploration of Jason's stammer stands both at the core of the reader's response and at the centre of Mitchell's powerful poetics-and it is, last but not least, devastatingly funny.

Abstract‘The Anthropocene’ has emerged as a unique moment in earth history where humanity recognises its devastating capacity to destabilise the planetary processes upon which it depends. Modern agriculture plays a central role in this problematic. Food production innovations are needed that exceed traditional paradigms of the Green Revolution whilst at the same time are able to acknowledge the complexity arising from the sustainability and food security issues that mark our times. Aquaponics is one technological innovation that promises to contribute much towards these imperatives. But this emergent field is in an early stage that is characterised by limited resources, market uncertainty, institutional resistance and high risks of failure—a developmental environment where hype prevails over demonstrated outcomes. Given this situation, the aquaponics research community potentially holds an important place in the development path of this technology. But the field needs to craft a coherent and viable vision for this technology that can move beyond misplaced techno-optimist accounts. Turning to sustainability science and STS research, we discuss the urgent need to develop what we call a ‘critical sustainability knowledge’ for aquaponics, giving pointers for possible ways forward, which include (1) expanding aquaponic research into an interdisciplinary research domain, (2) opening research up to participatory approaches in real-world contexts and (3) pursuing a solution-oriented approach for sustainability and food security outcomes.

AbstractFiskerstrand Verft is a multipurpose shipyard with extensive expertise and activities in shipbuilding, maintenance, repair and conversion/modification of ships. The yard is exposed to a range of different environmental challenges related to its business which trigged the yard to develop and implement health and safety, and environmental management systems. This chapter gives an overview of environmental management at Fiskerstrand Verft over a 30-year period, written from the perspective of the first author as CEO. The activities from 1991–94 mainly considered Level 1 in the CapSEM Model with annual accounting of materials and wastes, emissions to air and discharges to ocean. The yard participated in various R & D environmental projects and during the period 1994–99 these were extended with activities corresponding to life cycle thinking according to Levels 2 and 3. In 1999, Fiskerstrand Verft was the first Norwegian shipyard that prepared and published an environmental report. The yard was certified as an environmental lighthouse company in 2000, the first in Norway. During the period 2004–2008, the yard further developed their systems and began to transition to Level 4. The life cycle perspective for ships and technology has been at the center of the development of green technologies for ships. This journey continues today, passing the 30 year mark, and has contributed invaluable knowledge about the CapSEM toolbox and how it can be applied to shipyard operations.

The “modern” fortifications at Piacenza are situated at a significant physical and cultural crossroads linking the Mediterranean and roads leading to Central Europe and the North Sea. This paper aims to include their historical bastion features and city walls within an open-air educational museum that is well integrated within the modern town. Starting from the original basis of a defensive nature conceived to mark boundaries and divide kingdoms, the plan is to build a park which, by means of a fully-equipped green belt, is able to narrate the story of the Siegecraft and Renaissance apse techniques. At the same time, the aim is to explain how such a system may serve as a valuable means of allowing sustainable urban transport along with that of respecting and highlighting cultural heritage. In order to tell the complete story, an attempt is made to describe how direct relief may relate to the “compact town.”

The market of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) carrier is remarkably expanded in the last four or five years, and lots of LNG vessels are being built in many shipyards in the world. Membrane-type MARK-III LNG CCS (Cargo Containment System) is used more and more in the construction of LNG carrier, and it has already taken considerable market share in the business of LNG vessel. No matter how many researches have been carried out on the structure of LNG CCS, most of them are mainly focused on its macroscopic behaviors, e.g. structural response of LNG CCS under sloshing load. MARK-III secondary barrier is a matter of primary concern recently, and as already known, its major function is to protect the inner hull structure from the leakage of LNG when the primary barrier of corrugated membrane fails. A closed boundary of secondary barrier for liquid tightness is mainly sustained by the boding between flexible and rigid triplexes, where the adhesive material such as epoxy green glue is applied. The thickness of adhesive glue is about 0.4mm which is extremely thin compared with those of the other structural components of MARK-III CCS. The conventional macroscopic approach hardly gives proper description about the structural behavior of secondary barrier which requires much finer representation with the resolution of glue thickness. Most recently, even though there is an example of research on the structural responses of MARK-III secondary barrier by carrying out structural analysis using microscopic approach, it still is necessary to verify the results of structural analysis base on the experimental evidences. This research deals with an experimental study on the structural behavior of the secondary barrier of MARK-III LNG CCS. The full-scale specimen of MARK-III CCS is prepared and installed in cryogenic chamber which is quite large enough to completely enclose the specimen. As the actual secondary barrier is loaded mainly with thermal loading due to cryogenic temperature and mechanical loading due to hull deformation, the specimen undergoes cryogenic temperature maintained by the chamber and mechanical loading given by the actuator of testing machine. The structural response of secondary barrier in the specimen is maintained and controlled in such a way that the response is almost the same as that of actual secondary barrier in LNG CCS. Through the intensive study on the type and size, the specimen is so designed as to sufficiently realize the structural behavior of the secondary barrier in the actual operating condition. Since the strain gauge is elaborately installed into the thin layer of adhesive glue in the secondary barrier, it is possible to measure its precise response and to capture the realistic structural behavior of the glue. FBG (Fiber Bragg Grating) sensor is also installed in the same specimen, and the structural response of the secondary barrier is measured simultaneously, which provides data of comparison to confirm the reliability of experimental results. It is necessary to verify the performance and feasibility of the strain gauge and FBG sensor prior to actual application into the specimen, because the strain gauge and FBG sensor work in extremely thin layer under cryogenic environment. Therefore, simple tensile test is carried out, and the strain gauge and FBG sensor are examined. During cooling down process, thermal loading is increased until the temperature of secondary barrier reaches −110°C, which is maintained for a few hours to stabilize the structural response of specimen. Continually, the 4-point bending test is carried out to give additional mechanical loading which is monotonously increased until the loading reaches the ultimate strength. The strain gauge and FGB sensor measure and record the strain at each testing location during the whole process of experiment. The specimen of EC (Conventional Epoxy) glue has the smallest ultimate strength, but nevertheless it has sufficient safety factor with respect to the level of loading in actual vessel, and the EHP (Epoxy Glue with the Treatment of Hot Pad) and PU (Polyurethane) glues have much more. The experiment is simulated numerically using FEM. The material data are directly obtained through various material tests. Microscopic approach is adopted, and therefore extremely fine mesh model of which element size is almost equal to glue thickness near the secondary barrier is developed, which makes it possible to represent realistic structural behavior of adhesive glue precisely. The loading and boundary conditions are carefully arranged to embody the experimental circumstances correctly. Finally, it is possible to estimate the degree of discrepancy between the results of experiment and numerical simulation, and the correlation factor can be obtained by studying the discrepancy. The correlation factor is the final result in this research, which can be applied to the structural analysis for actual secondary barrier of MARK-III LNG CCS and improve the results of the analysis.

However, in recent decades, with newly emerging discussions on landscape infrastructure, a new idea for a more integrated infrastructure and urban system has started to be formulated. Railway strips, occurring as terrains where solid-void morphology of cities becomes illegible, emerge as generators in the formation of new urban green network. Within this framework, Ankara commuter line that mark outs a route approximately 37 kilometers in length in the city, is a remarkable case for a motivating discussion on railway and landscape confrontation. Penetrating the city in east-west direction, the commuter line integrated with a rural landscape –covering vegetable gardens and creeks- that was serving as a recreational field for citizens until 1950s. However, the transformative nature of the railway, encouraged the development of new urban lands, industrial areas and neighborhoods along its route, and erased the characteristic landscape along the railway. The continuous landscape integrated with green, water and railway infrastructure became fragmented covering only some splits of green and water. In this respect, this study dwells on the lost landscape of the commuter line by mapping the fragmented continuity of the railway, green and water infrastructure from 1950’s until today to show the limited, but potential interaction of these three systems in the current urban fabric. The Southeast Coast Network (SECN) conducts long-term terrestrial vegetation monitoring as part of the nationwide Inventory and Monitoring Program of the National Park Service (NPS). The vegetation community vital sign is one of the primary-tier resources identified by SECN park managers, and it is currently conducted at 15 network parks (DeVivo et al. 2008). Monitoring plants and their associated communities over time allows for targeted understanding of ecosystems within the SECN geography, which provides managers information about the degree of change within their parks’ natural vegetation. 2020 marks the first year of conducting this monitoring effort at Cumberland Island National Seashore (CUIS). Fifty-six vegetation plots were established throughout the park from May through July. Data collected in each plot included species richness across multiple spatial scales, species-specific cover and constancy, species-specific woody stem seedling/sapling counts and adult tree (greater than 10 centimeters [3.9 inches {in}]) diameter at breast height (DBH), overall tree health, landform, soil, observed disturbance, and woody biomass (i.e., fuel load) estimates. This report summarizes the baseline (year 1) terrestrial vegetation data collected at Cumberland Island National Seashore in 2020. Data were stratified across three dominant broadly defined habitats within the park, including Coastal Plain Upland Open Woodlands, Maritime Open Upland Grasslands, and Maritime Upland Forests and Shrublands. Noteworthy findings include: 213 vascular plant taxa (species or lower) were observed across 56 vegetation plots, including 12 species not previously documented within the park. The most frequently encountered species in each broadly defined habitat included: Coastal Plain Upland Open Woodlands: longleaf + pond pine (Pinus palustris; P. serotina), redbay (Persea borbonia), saw palmetto (Serenoa repens), wax-myrtle (Morella cerifera), deerberry (Vaccinium stamineum), variable panicgrass (Dichanthelium commutatum), and hemlock rosette grass (Dichanthelium portoricense). Maritime Open Upland Grasslands: wax-myrtle, saw greenbrier (Smilax auriculata), sea oats (Uniola paniculata), and other forbs and graminoids. Maritime Upland Forests and Shrublands: live oak (Quercus virginiana), redbay, saw palmetto, muscadine (Muscadinia rotundifolia), and Spanish moss (Tillandsia usneoides) Two non-native species, Chinaberry (Melia azedarach) and bahiagrass (Paspalum notatum), categorized as invasive by the Georgia Exotic Pest Plant Council (GA-EPPC 2018) were encountered in four different Maritime Upland Forest and Shrubland plots during this monitoring effort. Six vascular plant species listed as rare and tracked by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GADNR 2022) were observed in these monitoring plots, including the state listed “Rare” Florida swampprivet (Forestiera segregata var. segregata) and sandywoods sedge (Carex dasycarpa) and the “Unusual” green fly orchid (Epidendrum conopseum). Longleaf and pond pine were the most dominant species within the tree stratum of Coastal Plain Upland Open Woodland habitat types; live oak was the most dominant species of Maritime Upland Forest and Shrubland types. Saw palmetto and rusty staggerbush (Lyonia ferruginea) dominated the sapling stratum within Maritime Upland Forest and Shrubland habitat types. Of the 20 tree-sized redbay trees measured during this monitoring effort only three were living and these were observed with severely declining vigor, indicating the prevalence and recent historical impact of laurel wilt disease (LWD) across the island’s maritime forest ecosystems. There was an unexpectedly low abundance of sweet grass (Muhlenbergia sericea) and saltmeadow cordgrass (Spartina patens) within interdune swale plots of Maritime Open Upland habitats on the island, which could be a result of grazing activity by feral horses.
