This article discusses Reiner Schürmann’s notions of ontological anarché and anarchic praxis in his readings of Heidegger and Eckhart, while bringing his philosophy of anarchy into dialogue with Zen-inspired Japanese thought. I thereby hope to shed light on his thought of anarchy in terms of what I call “an-ontology.” The inspiration for this project is the fact that Schürmann himself had practiced Zen as a young adult in France and had engaged in comparative analyses of Zen and Eckhart in his earlier works. I take what Schürmann meant by the principle of anarchy as a form of praxis that precedes the theoretical bifurcation between being and non-being. A similar sort of “anarchic praxis” is recognizable in Zen and we can find comparable (an)ontological implications of such praxis in the Zen-inspired writings of the Japanese medieval thinker Dōgen and of the contemporary philosopher Nishida Kitarō.

RESUMEN La reforma religiosa surgida a partir de 1517 no fue ajena a ningún estado europeo. Sus ecos también llegaron a la Monarquía Hispánica, que intentó erradicarla de sus fronteras a través de la Santa Inquisición. El objetivo del trabajo es ver (a través de las relaciones de causas de fe inquisitoriales que se encuentran en el Archivo Histórico Nacional) cómo dicha institución la represalió en el tribunal de Calahorra-Logroño entre 1550 y 1610, cuya jurisdicción compartía frontera natural con la Francia de las guerras de religión. Fue la situación en dicho país la que marcó el rumbo de la represión de la herejía en estos territorios, sobre todo a partir de la subida de Enrique de Navarra al trono francés. LABURPENA 1517tik aurrera sortutako erreforma erlijiosoa ez zen batere zerikusirik Europako Estatuetatik. Bere oihartzunak Monarkia Hispanikora ere iritsi ziren, Inkisizio Santuaren bidez mugetatik desagerrarazi zuena. ABSTRACT The religious reform emerged after 1517 was not alien to any European state. Its echoes also reached the Hispanic Monarchy, which tried to eradicate it from its borders with the inquisitorial action. The purpose of the work is to see (through the inquisitorial records found in the National Historical Archive) how this institution retaliated in the tribunal of Calahorra-Logroño between 1550 and 1610, whose jurisdiction shared a natural frontier with the France of the Wars of religion. It was the situation in that country that marked the course of the repression of heresy in these places, especially from the rise of Henry of Navarre to the throne of France.

Анотація:

Of Mountains and Seas (1989) and Snow in August (1997) are two plays which Gao Xingjian completed in France and contain direct references to ancient Chinese cultures. With reference to Gao’s “cold” theatrical techniques of suppositionality and tripartite acting, I argue such plays not only expose the Orientalist impulses in their portrayals of Chinese mythology and Zen Buddhism but also breathe new life into these ancient Chinese traditions. By highlighting Gao’s emphasis on observation, this paper demonstrates how his “escape” from Orientalism via literature is less about the avoidance of Orientalism than the reflexive observation of Orientalism.

RESUMEN A finales de 1924 se produjeron varias incursiones revolucionarias desde Francia para derrocar la Dictadura de Primo de Rivera. La entrada de un grupo de anarquistas por Vera* de Bidasoa la transfiguró literariamente Pío Baroja en el «Libro segundo» de la novela-crónica La familia de Errotacho. Lo más destacable en la literaturización de los acontecimientos, aun conociendo el anticlericalismo del escritor vasco, es la exagerada deformación parcial de la realidad respecto al comportamiento con los detenidos del obispo de Pamplona. *Mantenemos este topónimo con «v» porque así aparece escrito en todos los periódicos de entonces. Анотація:

Le compositeur Yoshihisa Taïra (1937-2005) cherche – dans sa composition – à réaliser une synthèse culturelle entre la France, où il s’est formé et a vécu, et le Japon, son pays d'origine. Il utilise alors la méditation comme thème musical pour se libérer de l’intellectualisation et de la verbalisation de la musique, et ce, dans le but de revenir à l’écoute en tant qu’essence musicale. En utilisant le concept du ma (vide), en s’inspirant de la pensée bouddhiste zen, Taïra réussit à trouver une position équilibrée avec le contexte esthétique de la postmodernité française représentée par Jean-François Lyotard. Cet article creuse donc ce en quoi la méditation est la synthèse culturelle pour Taïra, en analysant du point de vue musical et philosophique, la possibilité de l’existence d’un croisement idéologique entre ces deux cultures qui inciterait le compositeur à retourner vers l’inspiration de la culture japonaise, à l’aide de la pensée issue de Logique du lieu de Kitarô Nishida.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the historical and ideological positions of the Chikchi, a Korean Zen text. Originally composed of two fascicles, the book was published with metal type in 1377 and in woodblock print in 1378. The metal type print only remains. in its second fascicle, which is currently preserved in the La Bibliotheque nationale de France, registered in the Memory of the World by the United Nations, Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Memory of the World list. However, the woodblock print remains in two fascicles, including the teachings of Buddhas, recorded sayings, enlightened verses, and transmission records of more than one hundred patriarchs and masters of India, China, and Korea. The role of the Chikchi shines more in modern times. As a rare book in Korea and as the oldest extant book printed with metal type in the world, it has a great significance in the world history of printing culture. The Chikchi also has originality in terms of soteriology, ideological flexibility, an open interpretation of Buddhist teachings, and an integration with Confucianism, thus suggesting its possible contribution to a better understanding of the characteristics of Korean Buddhism in particular and, by extension, East Asian Buddhism in general.

This article addresses Barthes’s development from a structuralist semiotician towards an affectively responding reader in terms of ‘postrational’ subjectivity. In light of his whole oeuvre, Barthes anticipates the understanding of emotion as an integral part of cognition presented in contemporary social neuroscience. To illustrate Barthes’s growing awareness of the importance of this epistemological move, the article starts from his textual ‘reality effect’ as a critical vehicle of realist representation. It then shifts to his attempt at conceptualising an affective reading which resists the universalising idea of one ideologically determined signified. Barthes’s progress towards embracing the actual reader’s embodied self-feeling is prompted by two conceptual milestones: the obtuse meaning found in cinematic stills, and the experience of punctum felt in photos. In light of his lectures in the Collège de France, Barthes substitutes the Husserlian disembodied method of introspection with the Chinese wu-wei as a reading practice. As a result, his Zen-Buddhist concentration on bodily feelings elicited by visual/verbal images becomes a method capable of creating a fruitful link between language and wordless cognition. Finally, the article proposes an idea of the ‘embodied reality effect’ by reading affectively two similar scenes interpreted by the early and late Barthes himself.

Анотація:

D'abord objet d'études scientifiques, le bouddhisme devient objet de pratique vers le milieu du XXe siècle. Dans un premier temps, cette étude se propose de montrer l'évolution de cette sagesse exogène en Occident, guidant lentement nos pas vers la France. Apporté par le maître japonais Taisen Deshimaru en 1967, nous nous sommes attachés, dans un second temps, à expliciter les processus d'implantation et d'adaptation du Zen dans l'Hexagone. A cet effet, nous avons porté notre attention sur un groupe spirituel composé de treize personnes, lesquelles pratiquent quotidiennement au dojo Zen de Nice. Dans un troisième temps, nous nous sommes particulièrement intéressés à la manière dont ces pratiquants vivent leur pratique du Zen en milieu urbain, c'est-à-dire comment ils concilient leur pratique régulière avec leurs obligations sociales, ainsi que leur vie professionnelle et familiale. Par cette pratique effective, nous nous sommes demandés, s'il existe d'ores et déjà des spécificités françaises du Zen, lesquelles nous autoriseraient à parler d'un "Zen français", comme on parle d'un "Zen japonais".

Que ce soit dans les milieux artistiques, scientifiques ou publicitaires, on constate actuellement un regain d’intérêt pour le zen. Le zen fait vendre, le zen rend créatif, inventif, procure du bien-être, le zen semble servir à tout. S’agit-il d’une déformation dans son interprétation par le prisme de notre culture européenne et nord américaine ? Ou reflète-t-il une assimilation exacte du sens du zen ? Le fait que depuis son origine le zen ait été associé à l’activité artistique peut sans doute nous aider à comprendre les mécanismes qui sous-tendent son fonctionnement, et nous permettre ainsi de savoir si l’image que nous avons du zen reflète sa réalité, à travers diverses activité artistiques comme la peinture, la poésie, le cinéma, le théâtre, les arts martiaux, la cérémonie du thé ou l’art des jardin secs. A partir de ces observations, on constate une déformation de la perception du zen, d’un côté par une promotion de l’aspect spontané voir chaotique de l’expression artistique, et à l’opposé l’apologie d’une spontanéité-réflexe de conformation à un comportement codifié et répété. Or, ces deux aspects de la pensée apprentissage/désapprentissage, verbale/spatiale, non seulement ne s’opposent pas toujours, mais travaillent en synergie, dans un mouvement fluide, initié par un « lacher-prise » issu d’une reconfiguration constante des représentations
That it is in the artistic mediums, scientific or advertising, one currently notes a renewed interest for Zen. Zen makes sell, Zen makes creative, inventive, gets wellbeing, Zen seems to be used for all. Does it act of a deformation in its interpretation by the prism of our European and northern American culture? Or reflection it an exact assimilation of the direction of Zen? The fact that since its origin Zen was associated the artistic activity can undoubtedly help us to include/understand the mechanisms which underlie its operation, and to thus enable us to know if the image that we have Zen reflects its reality, through various artistic activity like painting, poetry, the cinema, the theatre, the martial arts, the ceremony of the dry tea or the art of the garden. From these observations, one notes a misperception of Zen. On one hand it is perceived as fostering the spontaneous and chaotic aspect of artistic expression, and on other hand it is seen as a codified and a repeated spontaneous reflex behavior. However, the dual aspect of thought, be it learned or unlearned, verbal or spacial, is a mental process that does not work in opposition, but in synergy, through fluid movement, initiated by discarding preconceived notions through a continuous effort to reconfigure one’s mental representations

L’objectif de cette thèse est de rechercher les effets bénéfiques de la méditation afin de lutter contre le stress professionnel. Il y a deux parties théoriques : identification du stress et gestion du stress. Chaque partie comprend trois approches : sciences médicales, psychologie du travail et sciences du travail. L’Association Zen Internationale est choisi comme terrain de recherche. Les résultats de cette étude montrent que la méditation et le sport peuvent réduire le stress et ils permettent d’acquérir des bénéfices qui correspondent à l’intelligence émotionnelle. Il montre aussi que les participants du groupe de méditation, qui sont dans le groupe de forte tension du modèle Karasek, ont le niveau de satisfaction au travail le plus bas. Mais le niveau de satisfaction de leur vie et de leur vie familiale n’est pas différent. La méditation peut être un moyen de compenser la satisfaction qu’ils n’ont pas au travail
The objective of this study is to examine benefits of meditation in dealing with stress, especially in a professional job context. There are two mainstream theories on the subject. They are stress identification and stress management. Each of them can be applied to three key areas: medical sciences, occupational psychology and occupational sciences. L’Association Zen Internationale is selected for this research. The results of this study show that meditation and sport can reduce stress and they allow individual to acquire benefits which correspond to emotional intelligence. The study found that meditation participants who have high tension, according to Karasek model, have the lowest satisfaction level but the level of satisfaction for their life and their family life are not different. The study establish that meditation can be a way to compensate for job satisfaction when people cannot obtain it from their work

La thèse porte sur les usages des dispositifs de « démocratisation » des grandes écoles dans différents espaces sociaux. Elle analyse comment les grandes écoles ont opéré un double retournement: d'une part, en se mobilisant, dans les années 2000, comme acteurs dans la résolution du problème de la reproduction des inégalités sociales par l'École; d'autre part, en bénéficiant d'une large approbation sociale dix ans après les premières controverses.' L'enquête étudie plus particulièrement le cas des conventions signées entre Sciences Po Paris et certains lycées situés en zone d'éducation prioritaire (ZEP) ou assimilés comme tels. Elle articule techniques qualitatives et quantitatives. Elle donne à voir des usages pluriels de cette action publique. Ces usages conduisent à pérenniser ce dispositif d'abord controversé et à imposer un impératif de « diversité» dans les grandes écoles et dans d'autres espaces sociaux (entreprises privées et publiques, champ politique ... ). Si les intérêts des protagonistes de ces différents espaces sociaux sont souvent divergents, ils convergent ici en une même stratégie de justification de leurs propres positions, généralement dominantes. La « démocratisation », en réactivant le mythe méritocratique, est donc au cœur de leur sociodicée. Ces « mondes de renfort» contribuent au succès du dispositif malgré l'écart entre les objectifs affichés de recrutement et la réalité des origines des étudiants admis. S'il est destiné à des lycéens défavorisés, l'enquête montre que des mécanismes de reproduction sont toujours à l'œuvre. Il accentue encore la stigmatisation des élèves de ZEP et renforce paradoxalement les inégalités
The thesis discusses the uses of « equal opportunity » programs operated by the French grandes écoles within various social sectors. It analyzes how the grandes écoles have operated a double turnaround : first, by defining themselves in the 2000's as valuable players in the resolution of issues related to social inequalities being reproduced by the school system; then, by gaining a wide popular approval ten years after the first controversy arose. The investigation studies in particular the case of agreements signed between Sciences Po and several high schools located in ZEPs (Priority Education Zones). It articulates techniques that are both qualitative and quantitative, and shows multiple uses of this public policy. By this way this program - once controversial- is brought to a sustainable level and to impose guidelines promoting diversity within the grandes écoles, as well as other social sectors (private and public companies, the political field ... ). While the interests of the main players within these social sectors often diverge, in this very case they are converging towards a common strategy of justifying their personal position, mainly as being a dominant one. « Equal opportunity », by reactivating the myth of meritocracy, is at the heart of their sociodicy. This contributes to the success of the program despite the gap between the c1aimed objectives of recruitment and the reality of the students being accepted. While meant for the most disadvantaged high school students, the investigation shows that the mechanisms of social reproduction are still in action. The program emphasizes still the stigm a of students in ZEPs, and in a paradoxal twist reinforces inequalities

L'augmentation des concentrations de fond en ozone dans la troposphère depuis le XXéme siècle est responsable de baisses conséquentes des rendements des grandes cultures. Le maïs ne semble pas épargné et les pertes de rendement pour l'année 2000 seraient de l'ordre de 2,2% à 5%. Toutefois, ces estimations sont établies à partir des résultats d'un nombre très faible d'expérimentations, toutes réalisées en chambres d'ozonation à ciel ouvert. Afin de vérifier si ces projections sont véritablement transposables aux champs de maïs cultivé en conditions conventionnelles, des plants de la variété NK Perform ont été mis en culture et exposés en champ à différentes concentrations d'ozone, en conditions semi-contrôlées. Pendant le développement des plantes, des séries d'échantillons ont été prélevées afin de comprendre comment le stress oxydatif, potentiellement induit par l'ozone, pourrait les avoir affectées. Ainsi les niveaux d'activités endoprotéolytiques des feuilles de l'épi (précédemment proposés comme indicateurs du degré de contrainte hydrique) ont été mesurés à l'aide d'une méthode par fluorescence (nouvellement adaptée chez les plantes). Parallèlement, les variations des teneurs en protéines oxydées (groupements carbonyles), de la peroxydation lipidiques et de la teneur en espèces réactives de l'oxygène (ROS) ont également été analysées. Nos résultats mettent en évidence une stimulation des activités endoprotéolytiques en réponse aux niveaux élevés d'exposition à l'ozone, ainsi qu'une différence significative de teneurs en protéines oxydées entre les plants contrôles et les plants les plus exposés. De mêmes les teneurs en ROS et les niveaux de peroxydation lipidique témoignent d'un effet de l'exposition à l'ozone. Toutes ses réponses cellulaires sont également influencées par l'âge des tissus foliaires. Ces résultats semblent abonder dans le sens des modèles en démontrant un impact certain de l'ozone sur le maïs, cependant toutes les analyses menées sur les paramètres de rendement (poids de mille grains, biomasse, teneur en amidon…) ne laisse entrevoir aucune perte, nous obligeant alors à reconsidérer la sensibilité du maïs à l'ozone, généralement admise jusqu'ici
For the past 150 years, background tropospheric ozone concentrations have been increasing constantely to the point where they now affect grain yield in major cereals, such as maize. In 2000, it has been estimated that yield loss was between 2.2% and 5% in this crop. Such estimates have been established from a very low number of experiments, all carried out in open top ozone fumigation chambers. To verify the accuracy of these estimations, we cultivated maize plants and exposed them to various ozone concentrations in the field. During plant development, series of cob-leaf samples have been collected in order to analyze the impact of ozone-induced oxidative stress on various biochemical processes. Thus, we studied changes in leaf endoproteolytic activities (a parameter previously used as a dehydration stress indicator), using a fluorescence-based method newly adapted to plant tissues. Concurrently, changes in protein oxidation levels (carbonyl groups) were analyzed, along with lipid peroxidation and accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS).Our results indicate that ozone induced increases in the global level of protein oxidation, endoproteolytic processes and lipid peroxidation, most likely as a result of an over-accumulation of ROS in the leaf tissues. Furthermore, the impact of ozone is enhanced by aging. To some extent, these conclusions agree with those obtained from impact modeling that also show that maize is midly sensitive to ozone. However, because yield was not affected whatsoever in our experiment (1000 grain weight, biomass, starch accumulation), it is our opinion that the general consensus about the sensitivity of maize to ozone should be revised

This study targets a structural analysis of social representations and more specifically, the effects of social practices in a constituted social representation. In this case, social practices are conceived like contraries. The results show a sub-structuration in the peripheral part of the representation which aims, conditionally, at the confrontation of these practices. Thus, the subject can conserve his discoursive attitudes in spite of the contraries practices by believing that he is well legitimated by the circumstances

La didactique de la grammaire a toujours divise les enseignants en deux camps : les partisans d'une grammaire implicite et ceux d'une grammaire explicite. Les eleves d'origine sociale defavorisee issus de l'immigration entretiennent plutot un rapport instrumental a la langue de l'ecole. Or l'enseignement actuel de la grammaire ne permet pas suffisamment a ces enfants de modifier leur attitude linguistique. La tentation est donc forte de proposer a ces eleves, majoritairement scolarises en zep, un enseignement grammatical allege, implicite et contextualise. Cette these s'inscrit resolument dans la mouvance reflexive. Parce qu'elle concerne un public specifique, nous plaidons pour une didactique qui permet de developper chez ces eleves une attitude reflexive par rapport aux diverses pratiques langagieres. A cette fin, nous avons interroge chaque pole du triangle didactique pour mieux comprendre les problemes de la didactique de la grammaire. Comme la majorite de ces eleves a une maitrise inegale d'une langue etrangere, nous nous sommes interesses a la didactique de la grammaire en francais et langue etrangere afin de degager des pratiques susceptibles de construire une didactique dela grammaire en zep. L'ensemble de ces connaissances nous a permis de developper des propositions didactiques, qui, nous l'esperons, meneront davantage d'eleves a la reussite scolaire.

Анотація:

Le travail presente dans ce memoire concerne une etude du devenir d'un herbicide du mais, l'atrazine en condition de plein-champ: bilan et modes de dissipation. Des experimentations de laboratoire mettant en jeu des methodes diverses (suivi de l'atrazine #1#4c, couches minces et colonnes de terre, lysimetre non remanie) permettent d'etayer les resultats obtenus sur la parcelle experimentale du site observatoire des pollutions diffuses du lycee agricole de la cote saint andre (isere, france) ou a ete suivie pendant 3 ans la composition en herbicide et metabolites du sol sur 1 metre de profondeur et celle de l'eau interstitielle prelevee par bougies filtrantes. La matiere active (1 kg/ha) apportee annuellement fin avril se dissipe selon cinq voies d'importances tres inegales: volatilisation (15%), absorption par la culture (10%), adsorption sur le complexe argilo-humique et metabolisation (40-50%), entrainement vers les eaux profondes (30-40%). Dans la situation etudiee, les deux voies principales sont la metabolisation par la microflore du sol et l'entrainement lors des episodes pluvieux precoces. Apres un an de culture, la teneur en atrazine et derives au sein du premier metre de sol est voisine de 400 g/ha ce qui indique que l'evacuation de la matiere active n'est pas complete. Notre etude de terrain completee par une experimentation de laboratoire, conduit a mettre en evidence la possibilite de pertes precoces importantes de matiere active durant les deux premiers mois de culture. Trois concepts importants relatifs a l'efficacite d'un herbicide de prelevee emergent de notre etude: la concentration critique dans l'eau du sol, la duree critique durant laquelle cette concentration doit etre maintenue pour assurer l'effet herbicide, la profondeur critique qui represente la couche de sol dans laquelle doit jouer l'effet herbicide. Pour l'atrazine en culture de mais, dans nos conditions, ces criteres ont ete mesures: concentration critique: entre 50 et 200 micromoles ; duree critique: deux mois ; profondeur critique: 10 cm. Avec 1 kg/ha d'atrazine sous forme de suspension concentree, les trois criteres d'efficacite sont remplis malgre d'importantes pertes par drainage lors des episodes pluvieux precoces. Des modifications de formulation ayant pour consequence un relargage progressif devrait permettre l'economie d'une part importante de matiere active. Nie szata czyni zakonnika – ta prawda jest ze wszech miar słuszna, jednak strój zakonny wydaje się być dość szczególnym ubiorem codziennym. Oczywiście założenie go nie warunkuje istoty życia zakonnego, jednak znaczenie semiologiczne, jakie niesie za sobą ten ubiór (zarówno w odniesieniu do samych osób zakonnych, jak i szeroko rozumianego społeczeństwa), wydaje się być bardzo istotnym elementem. Habit, jak niewiele już współczesnych ubiorów, może „opowiadać” nie tylko o osobie, która go nosi, ale także o tym, co niematerialne: duchowości, charyzmacie i wierze. Przemiany społeczne i historyczne wpływają jednak na kształtowanie się strojów zakonnych. Nowe spojrzenie na kulturę i społeczeństwo warunkowało nowe spojrzenie na formę stroju zakonnego i jego funkcjonowanie w społeczeństwie jako znak. Widać to na przykładzie habitów misyjnych, gdzie odchodzi się od zwyczajowej bieli, zarówno w Afryce jak i Azji uważając ten kolor za sprzeczny z rzeczywistością kulturową tamtych terenów. Habit mógł mieć także dookreślenie polityczne. W czasach komunistycznych w Polsce strój zakonny czy kapłański często wyzwalał emocje patriotyczno-polityczne. W Hiszpanii za rządów generała Francisco Franco noszenie habitu było traktowane natomiast jako popieranie rządzącej siły politycznej. W ostatnich latach powszechne stają się „akcesoria” typu telefon komórkowy, plecak, buty sportowe – które dotychczas nie licowały z powagą stroju zakonnego.

An efficient method for allylation of a sterically hindered alcohol in the presence of base-sensitive functionality (cf. 1 to 2) has been developed (Tetrahedron Lett. 2012, 53, 1319) by Richard B. Silverman at Northwestern University. Mark S. Taylor at the University of Toronto found (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2012, 134, 8260) that borinic acid 4 catalyzed the monofunctionalization of diols and carbohydrates such as 3. The selective functionalization of unprotected peptides can be challenging, but Man-Kin Wong at Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Chi-Ming Che at the University of Hong Kong have shown (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2012, 134, 2589) that selective N-terminal functionalization can be achieved with the alkynyl ketene 7, which allows for subsequent derivitization of the acylated products (e.g., 8) via click reactions with azides. To formylate amines such as morpholine (9), an N-heterocyclic carbene (e.g., 10) catalyzed procedure that utilizes CO2 and polymethylhydrosiloxane (PMHS) has been developed (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2012, 134, 2934) by Thibault Cantat at the CEA in France. For the protection of acyclic amino acid derivatives, Eiji Tayama at Niigata University has reported (Tetrahedron Lett. 2012, 53, 1373) a new protecting group, 1,2-dimethoxy-4,5-dimethylene, that is installed by double alkylation and can be removed with, for example, ethyl chloroformate to produce the corresponding carbamate (e.g., 12 to 13). As far as protecting groups go, ethers can be especially challenging to remove; however, a new procedure for the oxidative cleavage of glycol ethers, including dioxane, has been developed (Org. Lett. 2012, 14, 3218) by Zhong-Quan Liu at Lanzhou University. This copper-catalyzed procedure employs carboxylic acids such as 14 and produces alkoxymethoxy esters 15. The cleavage of unactivated ethers such as dibutyl ether as a means to alkylate sulfonamides (cf. 16) has been reported (Synlett 2012, 595) by Wei Zeng at South China University of Technology. Protecting groups that are thermally labile offer the ability to achieve deprotection without added reagents. A new thermolabile protecting group has been developed (Tetrahedron Lett. 2012, 53, 666) by Marcin K. Chmielewski at the Polish Academy of Sciences based on 2-pyridyl-N-(2,4-difluorobenzyl)aminoethyl carbonates.

Estimates of the fluxes of anthropogenic heavy metals (HM) – Pb, Cd, As, Zn, Ni, Cr, Cu – from the atmosphere onto the surface of the Barents Sea are based on previously calculated concentrations of these elements in near-surface atmosphere at three points of the Sea coast (on Kola Peninsula, in Nenets Nature Reserve, on Frantz-Josef Land archipelago). For lead and cadmium, the contributions of their anthropogenic emissions in foreign Europe, as well as of windblowing dust and soil particles have been taking into account(from EMEP reports). About 50% of lead and about 40% of cadmium come from those sources to the whole Sea area. In general, the atmosphere supplies yearly only a fraction of percent of HMs containing in the Barents Sea waters. In spring, during the period of ice melting, the atmospheric contribution to HM concentrations in Sea waters may be 2-10 times higher than average annual values. Also, we studied the spatial variations of black carbon (BC) contentin the atmosphere over the Barents Sea based on satellite data (reanalysis MERRA-2).The mean BC fluxes onto the snowed surface, and respective amendments the surface albedo and its radiation forcing were estimatedfor three regions under investigation.

Flexible energy carriers are a crucial element of our energy portfolio. In a future in which a significant fraction of our energy comes from renewable sources, renewably produced fuels will be vital. The zinc/zinc-oxide thermochemical redox cycle is one approach for producing hydrogen using solar energy. This paper explores the level of carbon taxation necessary to make the cycle competitive with hydrogen production via methane reforming. In addition, the time frame for economic viability is assessed through the use of experience curves under minimal input, mid-range, and aggressive incentive policy scenarios. Prior work projects that hydrogen produced by the zinc/zinc-oxide cycle will cost between $5.02 and $14.75/kg, compared to $2.40 to $3.60/kg for steam methane reforming. Overcoming this cost difference would require a carbon tax of $119 to $987/tCO2, which is significantly higher than is likely to be implemented in most countries. For the technology to become cost competitive, incentive policies that lead to early implementation of solar hydrogen plants will be necessary to allow the experience effect to draw down the price. Under such policies, a learning curve analysis suggests that hydrogen produced via the Zn/ZnO cycle could become economically viable between 2032 and 2069, depending on how aggressively the policies encourage the emerging technology. Thus, the Zn/ZnO cycle has the potential to be economically viable by mid-century if incentive policies—such as direct financial support, purchase guarantees, low interest rate loans, and tax breaks—are used to support initial projects.

The thermal hydraulic and SFD (Severe Fuel Damage) best estimate computer modelling code SOCRAT/V3 has been used for the calculation of QUENCH-16 experiment which was performed in the frame of the EC supported LACOMECO programme. The QUENCH-16 test conditions simulated a representative scenario of LOCA (Loss of Coolant Accident) nuclear power plant accident sequence in which the overheated up to 1800K core would be reflooded from the bottom by ECCS (Emergency Core Cooling System). The QUENCH-16 experiment included the following phases: first heat-up phase, pre-oxidation phase, slow cool-down phase (preparatory to air ingress), air ingress phase and bottom water flooding phase. The test QUENCH-16 was successfully conducted at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Karlsruhe, Germany, on July 27, 2011. The primary objective of this test was to investigate the oxidation of Zircaloy in the air following a limited pre-oxidation in the steam and to achieve a long period of oxygen starvation to promote the interaction with the nitrogen. Unexpectedly high cladding oxidation rate was detected during flooding phase which resulted in huge hydrogen production in QUENCH-16. It was due to zirconium nitride (ZrN) formation in a cladding which induced a diffusion transparency of zirconium dioxide layer. QUENCH facility is designed for studies of the PWR fuel assemblies behaviour under conditions simulating design basis, beyond design basis and severe accidents. SOCRAT/V3 computer modelling code was used for estimation of basic thermal hydraulic, oxidation and air ingress parameters in QUENCH-16. The calculated results are in a reasonable agreement with experimental data which justifies the adequacy of modeling capabilities of SOCRAT code for application to such a complicated test as QUENCH-16.

High-energy recovery combined with low emissions to air and water was targeted when Jo¨nko¨ping Energi planned their new Waste to Energy plant at Torsvik in Sweden. The plant is compliant with the new EU Industry Directive and the Waste Frame Directive R-formula, which defines energy recovery levels for recycle of energy. In total about 160 000 tons of municipal (40%) and commercial waste (60%) is annually converted into usable energy. The average heat value is 11,7 MJ/kg. The energy produced is a combination of electricity (14 MWe) and heat (42–56 MWth, depending on electricity production). The heat is recovered both in a boiler and in a condenser. The flue gas condensing system is combined with a heat pump (10 MWth) to optimize the heat recovery rate. The plant is designed to fulfill the requirements set by the Swedish authorities, which are more stringent than the EU emission requirements. Some examples of the plant emissions to air guarantees: dust 5, HCl 5, SO2 20, HF1, Hg 0,03, Cd+Tl 0,05, other HM 0,5 all in mg/Nm3 and dioxin 0,05 ng/Nm3. The flue gas cleaning upstream of the condenser consists of a combination of a semi-dry system and a wet scrubber. The gas cleaning system operating range goes from 60 000 up to 127 000 Nm3/h depending on load and fuel heat value. The semi-dry system is carrying out the major part of the gas cleaning and is sufficient to comply with the air regulations. However, in order to minimize the treatment of the condensate from the condenser the wet scrubber is installed after the semi-dry system and upstream the condenser. The blow down from the scrubber is reused within the plant. Thus the polishing scrubber secures minimal treatment of the condensate to comply with the local stringent limits, particular chlorides, before release to the recipient lake Munksjo¨n. Emissions to water were 2010 nitrogen 1,7 mg/l, Cl <3,6 mg/l, As 0,66 μg/l, Cd <0,07 μg/l, Cr <6 μg/l, Cu 0,8 μg/l, Hg <0,4 μg/l, Ni <0,66 μg/l, Pb<1,2 μg/l, Tl<1,3 μg/l, Zn<7,2 μg/l and PCDD/PCDF 0,0088 ng/l. In the wet scrubber acid stage residual HCl and excess ammonia from the SNCR system are removed. The latter compound is important to capture in order to prevent eutrophication. The combination of a semidry and a wet system enables an optimization of the flue gas cleaning with regard to the different operating situations, taking into account seasonal demand variations as well as fuel alterations. The concept has demonstrated very low emissions combined with low consumption of lime. The possibility to optimize the flue gas cleaning performance is a prerequisite for minimal condensate treatment and optimal energy recovery. The paper will describe the system and the operating experiences.
