Анотація:
The relevance of the distribution of clothing, designed in the style of Family look, is the result of the social demand for expressing family values by the consumers. Updating this style requires the introduction of new types of combinations of the system of artistic images and the development of an assortment concept of creating a capsule wardrobe. The problem of style modernization eliminates such classification features as gender, age, range. The image level of motivation in choosing the range of Family look style is based on the principle of “unisex”, which is due to the condition of the ensemble of the standard items set. The capsule approach to novelty of a family wardrobe provides stylistic balance of subject combinations due to the optimization of qualitative characteristics of a typical set in the Family look style. On the basis of normative definitions of components of family wardrobe the nomenclature of principles of identification of imagery of Family look models is formed. The application of the principle of ensemble of a capsule of a standard set in social function of clothes of Family look on the bases of hierarchy of structure of designing levels is considered: object, gender and age signs, social group, application of subjects. A typological series of options for combining assortment units in the gender and age groups of family members has been developed. The mirror image of the “unisex” principle has been studied by the method of uneven scaling of the areas of standard kits in the grid of product dimensions by the coefficient of proportionality in gender and age groups. A verification database for determining the harmony of the standard set has been developed, which differentiates the information for the scaling procedure: the appearance of the model, assortment units (top, bottom), models’ area, the coefficient of proportionality. The identification methods of the harmony of the typographic set have been offered: rhythm metrics, dimensional copying of the mirror image, stylistic harmony of subject combinations. Quantitative parameters of proportional ratios of areas of assortment units do not contradict the proportions of control measurements of design dimensions. The proposed technique can be recommended as a basic one in the development of a capsule wardrobe and in determining the items harmony.

Video-mediated technologies enable families with young children to participate in interactions with remote family members. This article examines how a family with young children uses the affordances of video conferencing to 'show' items or themselves. Findings indicate that there are two types of shows in these remote family interactions: those that are designed to receive identification, and those that are designed to receive appreciation and/or assessment. These shows are also often collaboratively produced between a child and her co-present parent. Finally, this paper considers the implications of these shows for our understanding of how families remotely participate in family life. Data are in American English.

Purpose: to substantiate the role of family look in family upbringing of a child's personality based on traditional values. Methodology: an integrated approach was applied, questioning of parents, conversations with teachers, parents, children, methods of analysis and synthesis obtained. Style "family look" implies the presence of a unifying element in the image of the whole family. Family look emphasizes belonging to one family. Self-expression by family look is manifested through identical colors, similar patterns and common motifs in family members' prints. Options for "family look" are: 1) the same clothing in style, material; 2) a single style; 3) identical accessories; 4) a single color scale; 5) clothing for pets, dolls ect; 6) identical prints. Family look clothing can be not only for the holidays, but also for everyday look. The original style of "family look" stands out because it is a whole philosophy, where family, children and love are declared as the most important values. Results of the research: features of the “family look” style were analyzed. A parental survey was conducted to identify goals and priorities for choosing a family look clothing. Modern parents and teachers of preschool education have been found to be familiar with family look, which is a testament to the great popularity of style. Most surveyed identifi ed this style as the same clothing for parents and children. Only a small proportion of those surveyed indicated that there were other signs of style, such as the same accessories. Psychological and pedagogical conditions of formation of family values in the structure of the personality of the child due to the "family look" style have been determined. Scientifi c novelty: the possibilities of "family look" style in the development of a child's personality have been identifi ed. Practical importance: baced on a creative source, author's models of women's, men's and children's clothes in the style of “family look” were created. The results of the study can be used by workers of the fashion-industry in the formation of the range of products of light industry, and also by parents in the family upbringing of children.

The debate over the usefulness of outside board members in family businesses goes on. Two of the three empirical studies on this issue tend to disagree on their value. Using a sample of 262 family business firms, drawn from the Business Week Newsletter for Family-Owned Businesses, this study surveyed CEOs to learn of their attitudes toward inside and outside board members. The findings strongly support the inclusion of outsiders and suggest that the more outside board members the better and the more inside family members the worse, but only where CEO desire, careful selection, and shared expectations are part of that outsider membership.

Анотація:

Past research has shown that entrainment facilitates social bonding in intimates and strangers. The current study investigated if synchronicity in romantic couples is disrupted by relationship discord. Rocking chair movements were used as an objective measure of synchronicity. Couples rocked together for 3 minutes to assess their baseline synchronicity, and again for 3 minutes after inducing a threat to the relationship in one member of each couple. It was hypothesized that satisfied couples would be more entrained than dissatisfied couples at baseline, as well as after inducing a relationship threat. Results indicated no significant difference in rocking between satisfied and dissatisfied couples at baseline. However, results supported that synchronicity was significantly disrupted in dissatisfied couples, but not satisfied couples, after the threat was induced. These results suggest that relationship satisfaction acts as a buffer to relationship threats and/or that satisfied couples are more likely to remain entrained even in the face of hardship.

This research explores the question of what role medical family therapists play on a health care team when working with serious pediatric illness. Seven participants from three different health care settings were interviewed. Results were organized within the ecological systems framework (Bronfenbrenner, 1979) according to the various ways participants became a part of the familyâ s illness experience. Participants identified roles directly with the family, with the health care team, and within the larger health care system. Clinical implications are identified concerning the preparation of the health care system for the continued growth and evolution of the field of medical family therapy.

The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of perceived family competence on late adolescent problem-solving abilities, family relationships, and affective experience. Specific areas of interest were perceived confidence in problem-solving and approach rather than avoidance of problems; intergenerational intimacy, intergenerational individuation, and personal authority in the family system as the adolescent relates to parents; and level of depression. Subjects were 256 late adolescents whose parents were still married and living together. Results indicated that perceived family competence had an effect on the dependent variables in the expected directions. Specifically, individuals who scored high on perceived family competence were high on perceived problem-solving confidence, approached problem-solving, were high on intergenerational intimacy, intergenerational individuation, and personal authority in relation to parents, and had less depression than individuals low on perceived family competence. Several sex differences were noted. Females had significantly higher approach to problem-solving than did males. Women reported significantly higher intergenerational intimacy with parents than did men. There was a significant interaction on personal authority such that for the high perceived family competence group, women scored higher than men. However, there were no significant differences between males and females in the low perceived family competence group.

AbstractThis introductory chapter approaches two basic categories of the whole monography which is a family and a lifestyle. The first subchapter deals with the complexity around the definition of the term family nowadays and difficulties with its definition. Furthermore, there is a description of post-war family development in Europe up to now, changes of the functions and further changes in the families’ lives differentiated in Western and Eastern part. It turns out that changes in society have caused significant changes in family lives (democratization, individualism, pluralism of family forms, dynamization, adaptability). The term lifestyle, as different concepts, is depicted in the next part of this chapter. It is perceived as a concept of multidimensional and multidisciplinary. The second subchapter contains several researches related to lives of the families. The project of our research and its goals, methods, selected sample (in total of 2437 respondents) and research process is described in the conclusion of the whole chapter.

AbstractIn split systems, where childcare has historically been separated from preschool, childcare has only recently been recognized for its educational potential. Paradoxically, now that its potential for children, parents, and communities is widely recognized, accessibility, affordability and quality are under pressure. Based on—mostly European—research, we analyse structural barriers that explain unequal take-up of childcare. We look, among others, at issues of lack of places, geographical disparities, and costs. We also look at educational process quality, especially for the youngest children. In so doing, we analyze how policies affect these issues and find that policies that consider childcare as an integral part of public early childhood care and education yield better results. In contrast, the commodification (privatisation) of childcare with its shift from supply side to demand-side funding risks to hinder accessibility and to lower quality.

To benefit from the value of a brand, a product family must have a coherent product family look. It is however not clear, what in the design contributes toward the coherence or similarity between the products. In this work, a product family identity is broken down into its basic design elements. The contribution of each of these basic design elements toward similarity is investigated. We present a framework of design elements in four dimensions. Examples of these design elements include color, texture, shape, and form. The contribution of these design elements toward the perceived product similarity is investigated. A two phased factorial analysis was performed. The first phase involved simplified shapes consisting of five design elements in the first two dimensions. In the second phase, a similar survey was repeated using images of real products. A survey of product pairs was given to a total of 52 participants. The results show that using the same shape, texture, color, and pattern has a significant effect on making a product pair seem similar to one another. The results will help a designer to design product families that have a coherent product family look but yet look clearly different from the competing brands.

Today, there are numerous theories about the family and each of these theories approaches the basic issues of the family in a specific way. This paper deals specifically with the structural functionalistic view of the family, and since Talcott Parsons was one of its most important representatives, attention is focused on his approach to the family. The aim of our paper is to try to give a critical review of how Parsons saw the family, its functions, structure, roles, relationships between its members, the values ​​it aspired to, i.e. to look at the whole educational context of such a family. Also, we will try to compare the basic assumptions of his theory with some dominant characteristics of the functioning of a modern, i.e. to assess whether the so-called. ideological familism continues to sustain in the manner and functioning of the family of Western society. We came to the conclusion that despite the general social aspirations for the family to be based on democratic relations, much of what was characteristic of the family in the middle of the last century remains unchanged in practice, and some things are even intensified. The construct of intensive parenting was noticed as a big problem because it creates unrealistic demands for both parents and children.

Product structure is the key information widely used by various business activities performed at different departments and different stages. In the made-to-order environment, product structure representation becomes more complicated because each product can have many variants with slightly different constitutions to fulfill different customer requirements. In such a context, product structure management comes to two interrelated functions: family structure management and variant structure management. At the same time, these two functions need to be seamlessly integrated to ensure the consistency of a family structure and its variant structure. From the business process perspective, throughout the entire product lifecycle, different business activities look at product structure with different purposes. Some activities are carried out based on variants and deem individual variants as different products and some need to be performed based on an entire family. As such, it is imperative to develop a product structure model that is capable of flexibly representing product families and product variants to serve up different processes in a product lifecycle. In this paper, a product structure model based on a master-variant pattern is proposed. The model can explicitly represent common characteristics of a family and particular characteristics of individual variants. Moreover, the variant structure representation is built on the top of the family structure representation. As a result, it provides an effective means to synchronize two types of structures. Introduction: This study presents the experience of psychological care to women with breast cancer, attended at the Advanced Breast Diagnosis Center (CORA), Hospital das Clínicas – UFG, under supervision. Objective: The aim of this study is to describe the phases of greatest psychosocial impact in the treatment of patients and family members. Methodology: The service to EAS was started in November 2017 after, 43 years old, divorced, and provider of three minor children, receiving the diagnosis of phylloid tumor, intense anguish, fear of death, emotional lability, conflicts family and socioeconomic status, presenting a distorted perception of identity. She was mastectomized and underwent chemotherapy and a new surgery in 2018, after a recurrence of sarcoma in the sternum bone, at which point she went into palliative care. Psychological, digital, and social-technical resources were used until her death in May 2020. Results: An improvement was observed in the coping strategy, resolution of family conflicts, recovery of affective bonds and their identity, with the distribution of tasks of the children, and improvement of the family dialogue, including the desire to grant the guardianship of the children to her brother. Discussion: It is necessary to have a systemic look at the patient who arrives at the public hospital. Considerations: This experience was enriching due to the relevance of the role of psychology and its interventions with the multidisciplinary team, promoting a significant improvement in the psychological well-being and quality of life of the patient who arrives with real and imagined suffering aggravated by the disease and treatment.

Abstract This paper presents a modified Taguchi methodology to improve the robustness of modular product families against changes in customer requirements. The general research questions posed in this paper are: (1) How to effectively design a product family (PF) that is robust enough to accommodate future customer requirements? (2) How far into the future should the designers look to design a robust product family? An example of a simplified vacuum product family is used to illustrate our methodology. In the example, the customer requirements are selected as signal factors; the future changes of customer requirements are selected as noise factors; an index called the quality characteristic (QC) is set to evaluate the product vacuum family; and the module instance matrix (M) is selected as the control factor. Initially a relation between the objective function (QC) and the control factor (M) is established, and then the search space is systemically explored using the simplex method to determine the optimum M and the corresponding QC values. Next, various noise levels at different time points are introduced into the system. For each noise level, the optimal values of M and QC are computed and plotted on a QC-chart. The tunable time period of the control factor (in the example, the module matrix, M) is computed using the QC-chart. The tunable time period represents the maximum time for which a given module matrix can be used to satisfy the current and future customer needs. Finally, a robustness index is used to break up the tunable time period into suitable time periods that the designers should focus on while designing product families.

“Me tiro whakamuri, ki te haere whakamua. We must look to our past in order to move forward.” This whakataukī (proverb) speaks to Māori perspective of time and the importance of knowing your own history in order to move forward. We must look to our past and move as if we are walking backwards into our future. The present and past are certain, however, the future is unknown. Tangohia mai te taura: Take This Rope - is a practice-led research project, that enquires into a disputed narrative of the past. The thesis study involves researching, directing and producing a feature documentary about historical grievances within Te Whakatōhea and Te Whānau ā Mokomoko. The project artistically explores the potentials of documentary form in relation to Mātauranga Māori (Māori customs and knowledge) and kaupapa Māori (Māori research approaches). The research seeks to exhume stories from iwi members and question certain Pākehā constructed narratives (The Church Missionary, 1865; Taylor, 1868; McDonnell, 1887: Grace, 1928). Accordingly, the documentary will communicate outwards from accumulated experience and storytelling within my whānau. Thus, it will interweave the narratives of people whose whakapapa (genealogy) has been interwoven with historical events and their implications, related to the execution of my ancestor Mokomoko in 1866, and the preceding murder of the Reverend Carl Sylvius Völkner in 1885. Artistically and theoretically, the project constructs a new form of Māori documentary through a consideration of pūrākau (Pouwhare and McNeill 2018). The significance of the study lies in the potential to rethink documentary form based on the tenets of pūrākau. In so doing, the study will not only expand the corpus of research about Mokomoko but also extend how indigenous documentaries might be thought of as structures. Four key concepts that will guide the development of the film are: WHAKAPAPA - GENEALOGY Through genealogy, it builds my personal connection with the film, the interviewees and the community. But it also holds a strong responsibly for me to complete this film with the utmost respect and care. WHENUA and WHANAU – LAND and FAMILY With land and family at the centre of the film. Embodiment is an important part of how this film is created. I reconnected more with my extended family and actively seek out opportunities to attend wānanga (discussions) and perform kapa haka (Māori performing arts) specific to our land and family. TIKANGA – CUSTOMS The process and structures of making this film have followed tikanga Māori (Māori customs). Practising karakia and waiata (Māori prayers and songs) to perform before and after we film were key customs we believe are important when creating this film. These protocols are practised by the crew and affirm our rōpu (group) as a family. KOHA - RECIPROCATION Unlike traditional filming structures that schedule films to be completed in an economically and efficient way. Koha reinforces the concept of reciprocation, to give and receive. As the community gifts their time and stories, the film will be gifted back to those from which it came. Myself as the ringa toi (artist) must make conscious effort to go back to the iwi (local tribe) and being an active member within the town and supporting community initiatives. In addition, the study will demonstrate how the process of documentary making inside iwi can function as a form of raranga (weaving) where collaborating fragments may take form and through this increase feelings of value, healing, and historical redress.

Designing and developing highly engineered products requires direct (and more dynamic) associations between customers’ specifications and product characteristics (or its behaviors). In order to meet the specified customer performance, cost, and integrity goals, a multitude of specialized analyses, heuristics, shortcuts, look-up tables, equations, algorithms, finite elements, and material substitution at multiple levels (system, subsystems, components and parts) are ought to be performed. The product geometries of such engineered product are often complex and many parts are designed interactively from scratch using a 3D commercial computer-aided design (CAD) — lately often referred as Product Life-cycle Management (PLM) system. Today, this very “PLM-based” engineered product-design process is often “static”, very “feature or geometry-dependent,” “knowledge-intensive,” and therefore, engineers often takes considerable time (months) to complete this manual process. Today, more and more companies want to quickly reengineer a product from a multitude of family solutions (corresponding to various design trade-off studies). They are interested in some dynamic form of a decision-based system that could automatically filter through a multitude of historical product solutions and quickly reconfigure one that meets the customer requirements with the least cost, weight, and time investment. Such decision-based product automation is not an easy task by any means. Product definitions without knowing specific geometry are hard to conceive, capture generically, and reuse widely (via any generative tool). A typical product development process —by its nature—is highly dynamic, nonlinear, discrete, feature-dependent, and part-dependent. The solution is not easy, since problem formulation is time-bound, has numerous discrete inputs, topologies, and several mathematical discontinuities. This paper discusses the system architecture of the Knowledge-driven Automation (KDA) program — established at Parker in 2002. It addresses many of the above product development issues and problems. In particular, authors describe a Knowledge-based System Engineering Process for Obtaining Engineering Design Solutions in a Commercial PLM Setting. The architecture and solutions use a number of innovative knowledge-based engineering (KBE) concepts and procedures. Through strategic use of generative modeling, spreadsheet tables, part and assembly templates, system engineering concepts, and our proprietary “smart part concepts,” authors were able to engineer-to-configure a family of hydraulic actuators automatically from their customer specifications using a set of PLM (CATIA V5 and its underlying knowledgeware) tools.

This paper presents Lift, an educational framework written in C++ that explores the RTXhardware pipeline by using the low-level Vulkan API and its Ray Tracing extension, recently made available byKhronos Group. Lift’s development arose primarily in the context of the graduate3D Programming course taught at Instituto Superior Técnico and Master Theses focused on Real-Time Ray Trac-ing and provides the foundations for laboratory assignments and projects development. The platform aims to makeeasier students to learn and to develop, by programming the shaders of the RT pipeline, their physically-based ren-dering approaches and to compare them with the built-in progressive unidirectional and bidirectional path tracers.The GUI allows a user to specify camera settings and navigation speed, to select the input scene as well as therendering method, to define the number of samples per pixel and the path length as well as to denoise the generatedimage either every frame or just the final frame. Statistics related with the timings, image resolution and totalnumber of accumulated samples are provided too. Such platform will teach that nowadays physically-accurateimages can be rendered in real-time under different lighting conditions and how well a denoiser can reconstructimages rendered with just one sample per pixel

As a student undertaking a Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (LIC)1 based in a GP practice in a rural community in the North of Scotland, I have been lucky to be given responsibility and my own clinic lists. Every day I conduct consultations that change my practice: the challenge of clinically applying the theory I have studied, controlling a consultation and efficiently exploring a patient's problems, empathising with and empowering them to play a part in their own care2 – and most difficult I feel – dealing with the vast amount of uncertainty that medicine, and particularly primary care, presents to both clinician and patient. I initially consulted with a lady in her 60s who attended with her husband, complaining of severe lower back pain who was very difficult to assess due to her pain level. Her husband was understandably concerned about the degree of pain she was in. After assessment and discussion with one of the GPs, we agreed some pain relief and a physio assessment in the next few days would be a practical plan. The patient had one red flag, some leg weakness and numbness, which was her ‘normal’ on account of her multiple sclerosis. At the physio assessment a few days later, the physio felt things were worse and some urgent bloods were ordered, unfortunately finding raised cancer and inflammatory markers. A CT scan of the lung found widespread cancer, a later CT of the head after some developing some acute confusion found brain metastases, and a week and a half after presenting to me, the patient sadly died in hospital. While that was all impactful enough on me, it was the follow-up appointment with the husband who attended on the last triage slot of the evening two weeks later that I found completely altered my understanding of grief and the mourning of a loved one. The husband had asked to speak to a Andrew MacFarlane Year 3 ScotGEM Medical Student 2 doctor just to talk about what had happened to his wife. The GP decided that it would be better if he came into the practice - strictly he probably should have been consulted with over the phone due to coronavirus restrictions - but he was asked what he would prefer and he opted to come in. I sat in on the consultation, I had been helping with any examinations the triage doctor needed and I recognised that this was the husband of the lady I had seen a few weeks earlier. He came in and sat down, head lowered, hands fiddling with the zip on his jacket, trying to find what to say. The GP sat, turned so that they were opposite each other with no desk between them - I was seated off to the side, an onlooker, but acknowledged by the patient with a kind nod when he entered the room. The GP asked gently, “How are you doing?” and roughly 30 seconds passed (a long time in a conversation) before the patient spoke. “I just really miss her…” he whispered with great effort, “I don’t understand how this all happened.” Over the next 45 minutes, he spoke about his wife, how much pain she had been in, the rapid deterioration he witnessed, the cancer being found, and cruelly how she had passed away after he had gone home to get some rest after being by her bedside all day in the hospital. He talked about how they had met, how much he missed her, how empty the house felt without her, and asking himself and us how he was meant to move forward with his life. He had a lot of questions for us, and for himself. Had we missed anything – had he missed anything? The GP really just listened for almost the whole consultation, speaking to him gently, reassuring him that this wasn’t his or anyone’s fault. She stated that this was an awful time for him and that what he was feeling was entirely normal and something we will all universally go through. She emphasised that while it wasn’t helpful at the moment, that things would get better over time.3 He was really glad I was there – having shared a consultation with his wife and I – he thanked me emphatically even though I felt like I hadn’t really helped at all. After some tears, frequent moments of silence and a lot of questions, he left having gotten a lot off his chest. “You just have to listen to people, be there for them as they go through things, and answer their questions as best you can” urged my GP as we discussed the case when the patient left. Almost all family caregivers contact their GP with regards to grief and this consultation really made me realise how important an aspect of my practice it will be in the future.4 It has also made me reflect on the emphasis on undergraduate teaching around ‘breaking bad news’ to patients, but nothing taught about when patients are in the process of grieving further down the line.5 The skill Andrew MacFarlane Year 3 ScotGEM Medical Student 3 required to manage a grieving patient is not one limited to general practice. Patients may grieve the loss of function from acute trauma through to chronic illness in all specialties of medicine - in addition to ‘traditional’ grief from loss of family or friends.6 There wasn’t anything ‘medical’ in the consultation, but I came away from it with a real sense of purpose as to why this career is such a privilege. We look after patients so they can spend as much quality time as they are given with their loved ones, and their loved ones are the ones we care for after they are gone. We as doctors are the constant, and we have to meet patients with compassion at their most difficult times – because it is as much a part of the job as the knowledge and the science – and it is the part of us that patients will remember long after they leave our clinic room. Original Objectives: 1. Purify and biochemically characterize RB60 orthologs in higher plant chloroplasts; 2. Clone the gene(s) encoding plant RB60 orthologs and determine their structure and expression; 3. Manipulate the expression of RB60; 4. Assay the effects of altered RB60 expression on thylakoid biogenesis and photosynthetic function in plants exposed to different light conditions. In addition, we also examined the gene structure and expression of RB60 orthologs in the non-vascular plant, Physcomitrella patens and cloned the poly(A)-binding protein orthologue (43 kDa RB47-like protein). This protein is believed to a partner that interacts with RB60 to bind to the psbA5' UTR. Thus, to obtain a comprehensive view of RB60 function requires analysis of its biochemical partners such as RB43. Background & Achievements: High levels of sunlight reduce photosynthesis in plants by damaging the photo system II reaction center (PSII) subunits, such as D1 (encoded by the chloroplast tpsbAgene). When the rate of D1 synthesis is less than the rate of photo damage, photo inhibition occurs and plant growth is decreased. Plants use light-activated translation and enhanced psbAmRNA stability to maintain D1 synthesis and replace the photo damaged 01. Despite the importance to photosynthetic capacity, these mechanisms are poorly understood in plants. One intriguing model derived from the algal chloroplast system, Chlamydomonas, implicates the role of three proteins (RB60, RB47, RB38) that bind to the psbAmRNA 5' untranslated leader (5' UTR) in the light to activate translation or enhance mRNA stability. RB60 is the key enzyme, protein D1sulfide isomerase (Pill), that regulates the psbA-RN :Binding proteins (RB's) by way of light-mediated redox potentials generated by the photosystems. However, proteins with these functions have not been described from higher plants. We provided compelling evidence for the existence of RB60, RB47 and RB38 orthologs in the vascular plant, Arabidopsis. Using gel mobility shift, Rnase protection and UV-crosslinking assays, we have shown that a dithiol redox mechanism which resembles a Pill (RB60) activity regulates the interaction of 43- and 30-kDa proteins with a thermolabile stem-loop in the 5' UTR of the psbAmRNA from Arabidopsis. We discovered, in Arabidopsis, the PD1 gene family consists of II members that differ in polypeptide length from 361 to 566 amino acids, presence of signal peptides, KDEL motifs, and the number and positions of thioredoxin domains. PD1's catalyze the reversible formation an disomerization of disulfide bonds necessary for the proper folding, assembly, activity, and secretion of numerous enzymes and structural proteins. PD1's have also evolved novel cellular redox functions, as single enzymes and as subunits of protein complexes in organelles. We provide evidence that at least one Pill is localized to the chloroplast. We have used PDI-specific polyclonal and monoclonal antisera to characterize the PD1 (55 kDa) in the chloroplast that is unevenly distributed between the stroma and pellet (containing membranes, DNA, polysomes, starch), being three-fold more abundant in the pellet phase. PD1-55 levels increase with light intensity and it assembles into a high molecular weight complex of ~230 kDa as determined on native blue gels. In vitro translation of all 11 different Pill's followed by microsomal membrane processing reactions were used to differentiate among PD1's localized in the endoplasmic reticulum or other organelles. These results will provide.1e insights into redox regulatory mechanisms involved in adaptation of the photosynthetic apparatus to light stress. Elucidating the genetic mechanisms and factors regulating chloroplast photosynthetic genes is important for developing strategies to improve photosynthetic efficiency, crop productivity and adaptation to high light environments.

In September 1997, the Population Council and Lusaka’s University Teaching Hospital (UTH) launched a 15-month study to identify and explore the range of issues relating to the introduction of emergency contraception (EC) within a developing country context. The study allowed clinic-based family planning providers to accumulate enough first-hand experience to be able to identify strategies for overcoming difficulties associated with the introduction or delivery of EC services. One issue on most participants’ minds was the need to expand the delivery of EC services toward young women, especially out-of-school women, who are harder to reach. Participants recommended that future research activities look beyond school-based health facilities and focus on institutions such as pharmacists, peer counselors, youth clubs, community organizations, or even sports associations. The findings of the 1997 UTH study on EC indicated the kinds of facilities young people were likely to reject, but provided little indication of what types of outlets they might prefer. As noted in this report, the present study was designed with that objective in mind.

Women of reproductive age in Cambodia, and many other developing countries, comprise a large part of factories’ workforce. Integrating family planning and reproductive health information and services into factories can improve workers’ health and help countries achieve FP2020 commitments. This case study looks at the process of how the Cambodian Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training launched, as formal policy, a set of workplace health infirmary guidelines for enterprises. What made this policy process unique for Cambodia—and what can be replicated by health advocates elsewhere—is that a group of organizations typically focused on public health policy successfully engaged on labor policy with a labor ministry. This case study describes the policy process, which was underpinned by the strategic use of evidence in decision-making and has been hailed by government, donors, civil society and industry as a success. The learnings presented in this case study should be useful to health advocates, labor advocates, and program designers.
