Анотація:
Radiotelephony English is taught in college for the learners whose future professions are mainly pilots and air traffic controllers. The present study is to analyse the radiotelephony English test design in a university to see the extent of which it evaluates learners’ communicative competence in aviation scope. Theoretical frameworks on communicative competence, modern test theory and ICAO language proficiency requirements for the learners of radiotelephony communication are presented. The study reveals that learners’ communicative competence which includes both radiotelephony and everyday communication skills are important components in radiotelephony test design. The study points out that the application of modern test theory in designing radiotelephony test in college is vital in meeting the validity and reliability of the test and the students’ individual needs in English language learning for future career needs to be reflected in the test design.

Анотація:
This study is aimed at researching learning plans of Senior High School English textbooks based on the big concept, promoting the overall English teaching design of Senior High School, and encouraging students to carry out deep study. It mainly uses discourse analysis method for English unit teaching designs, arranges the content of unit teaching reasonably, and promotes the quality of English teaching in high schools through a complete unit theme teaching. This study, by sorting out the connotation, characteristics and relevant literature of big concept, takes Unit 4, Compulsory 1 of New Yilin Senior High School English textbooks as an example to explore the overall teaching design of units pointing to deep study. Findings of the research include: learning plans of Senior High School English textbooks based on the big concept makes English teaching from scattered to interrelated, promoting students’ deep study, and implementing core English literacy; learning plans based on the big concept are quite beneficial to the development of both teachers and students.

The objectives of this study are to describe how indicators, learning objectives and teaching materials are stated in English lesson plans for Elementary School Students based on the criteria of instructional designs using School-Based Curriculum. Five English lesson plans available online are analyzed in this study using content analysis design. The results show that statements of indicators and learning objectives are not matched with the criteria of good instructional design. In addition, learning objectives do not indicate actual teaching materials and action verbs to indicate measurable teaching-learning outcomes do not match to each other.

College English teaching is in urgent need of a platform which may improve stu-dents' initiative in English learning, raise learning interest and enhance English teaching management, in order to improve students' English level and facilitate the teacher's English teaching management. The popularity of campus network facili-ties in various universities provides hardware support for the establishment of a personalized English teaching platform based on campus network. The study is aimed at designing a personalized English teaching platform based on campus network, which takes VBSCRIPT as programming language and SQL Server as database software of the platform, completing the interactive processing of the da-ta based on the data structure of client computer/server (B/S). First, the paper in-troduces the relevant teaching and education theories, laying theoretical and tech-nical basis for the design of personalized English teaching platform in combina-tion with the computer technology used in the design of the platform. The combi-nation of questionnaire and analytic study is used in the design of the system from various aspects, and makes the design of the platform come true. At last, the testing of the system verifies that the system meets the relevant functional re-quirement. The platform would provide an open environment for English learning and stimulating the guidance of teachers and is of great significance to improve the level of college English teaching.

This study aimed at investigating the English Language Teachers' perspectives toward design thinking and to examine the effect of experience, gender, and qualification factors on their perspectives. The study sample consisted of 135 teachers (64 females, 33 male) from Amman 1 Educational Directorate. The researcher developed a design thinking scale, its validity and reliability were approved. The results indicated that English Language teachers had a high degree of knowledge and practice about design thinking (mean= 4.10, S. D= 0.37) and there were no statistically significant differences in the design thinking means attributed to gender, teachers’ experience, or qualification. The study recommends conducting more research on design thinking, including different samples of teachers from disciplines other than English, and conducting qualitative research to observe the degree to which teachers apply design thinking strategies.

At present, the teaching, training, and assessment programs of English speaking courses in schools are basically carried out by the teaching method of face-to-face teaching by teachers, especially in the English speaking assessment; students and teachers communicate with each other to answer questions, while the students’ performance is subjectively judged by the school English teachers. This model not only consumes the teaching resources of school English teachers but also cannot ensure the uniformity of grading standards. To this end, this paper designs and proposes an English speaking test system with the aim of building an intelligent speaking test system by designing a speech recognition deepening frequency processing function through SSM framework combined with JSP technology and deep learning theory. The English speaking test system designed in this paper integrates several open source frameworks, adopts modular design, and divides it into two subsystems, student-side module system and teacher-side module system for system framework design, and finally, this system is tested for functionality. The system was designed and implemented through the framework description, functional description, and functional testing of this system, and finally, the English speaking test system was designed and implemented. The system is designed and implemented to change the traditional one-to-one mode of school teaching, save teachers’ manpower, strengthen the content of intensive training for students’ English proficiency and improve the frequency of exams, facilitate school administrators and English teachers to evaluate the effectiveness of their teaching implementation, and develop corresponding effective individualized teaching and guidance strategies for schools to provide convenience, which can greatly reduce the recognized labor intensity of English teachers and provide a correct evaluation of students, a correct evaluation of the level, and other roles.

English is essential for children because it is an international language that is al-ways used in various fields, both in the world of work, education, economics, and social. One method of learning for children is by playing while learning. Gamification in the field of education is an educational approach to motivate stu-dents to enjoy learning by applying the game design. The purpose of this study is to approach the learning of English, specifically for children in kindergarten schools so that children will be more interested and feel happy to continue learning. The gamification method uses a mobile phone-based application with video games. Gamification in question is an English language recognition game for children with games. The introduction of English includes three categories, namely numbers, pictures, and spelling. The result is a mobile-based application that can be used by children to play the introduction of English with the concept of gamification. With the existence of gamification, the conception of children who were initially afraid to learn English became brave and more confident. The contribution given through this paper is to motivate children's willingness to learn English through other learning methods, namely gamification. Make children feel comfortable and not afraid to learn new things, especially English.

Employing the research approach known as portraiture, this study investigated the varying ways in which three secondary English language arts teachers at a visual and performing arts high school conceptualized and designed multimodal literacy learning. Also studied were the ways in which their students responded to these designs; and in keeping with portraiture, attention went to the changes in the researcher's own understandings. This multi-case study and cross-case analysis built on prior multimodal literacy research in secondary education, but unlike previous studies, gave major attention to how teachers' conceptualization of multimodality and their own roles related to the designs that they produced. Since the school emphasized arts as well as academics, particular attention went to teachers' conceptions of, and designs for, arts-related multimodalities. Data for the portraits came from observations, teacher and student interviews, artifacts, and a researcher journal. Recursive analysis focused on repetitive refrains, resonant metaphors, and emergent themes, which provided data for "painting" the teachers' portraits in prose. Findings show the connections among teachers' beliefs, values, and the multimodal designs, which included images, movement, sound, classroom displays, and room arrangements. The three teachers took dramatically different approaches to multimodal designs as they created their productions of English language arts. Differences across teachers were related to their conceptions of multimodal design (i.e., for social activism, for expression, for edification) and to their conceptions of their roles as multimodal literacy designers (i.e., challenger, facilitator, channel). Students' responses to, and participation in, the multimodal activities also varied across classroom and teacher. The concluding discussion addresses the relation of arts integration to multimodal literacy education, the value of students' transmodal activity, and connections between multimodality and portraiture. School design in England has undergone a process of continued development in response to political and educational reforms. The last decade has witnessed unprecedented investment in building schools programmes, which were initiated by the last Labour Government. It had an ambition to build schools that would make a major contribution to promoting sustainability. To date there has been little critical analysis of these new schools and the contribution that their associated landscape has made towards delivering sustainability. Where there has been research this has focused on the performance of new school buildings and social aspects of school grounds. This research has studied the sustainable profiles and potential of landscape in primary schools, aiming to identify the key drivers and challenges to achieving sustainable landscape. Existing environmental and design assessment tools, to varying degrees, undervalued the contribution that landscape can make to environmental performance of schools. As a result, this research developed a comprehensive assessment tool for this purpose. Five new primary schools in England were identified for detailed research into the key drivers which contribute to or challenge delivering sustainable landscape. Site visits and qualitative interviews with the selected schools' designers and headteachers provided information about how they were designed and managed. In depth analysis was done using the developed assessment tool. This study revealed a number of important findings. School grounds are still significantly undervalued in terms of the wider contribution they can make to sustainability. This was reflected in under investment in school grounds and lack of considering their on-going management requirements. Existing policies do not fully recognise and support their potential because of their focus on the building. Schools that did succeed were invariably supported by a highly committed design team, school community and the Local Authority. Irrespective of budget, the most successful designs were those which recognised the potential to integrate the building with the school grounds and to extend this approach to the wider landscape.

AbstractThe present study was aimed to investigate English learning as second language, in school, in first, second and third graders of twelve classes randomly assigned to a control or an experimental group. Children in the latter are exposed during English school teaching to the method “An English Island®” and to its platform activities. The method “An English Island®” offers a variety of strategies for teaching English in primary school, an innovative digital tool that promotes teaching/learning English language’s communicative approach, lead students to become familiar with the language in a sort of continuous, inclusive workout, in which everyone participates and talks.English skills as well as cognitive abilities are tested in both groups at the beginning and at the end of the school year with the aim to compare control and experimental classes in both a longitudinal and a cross-sectional design.

Анотація:
The development of information technology pushes forward the change of the teaching model. In general, the instructional design is becoming student-centered. In China, in college English class, more emphases are put on fostering students' language output ability. Therefore, PBL (Project-based Learning) is becoming increasingly popular, and BOPPPS (Bridge-in, Objective/Outcome, Pre-assessment, Participatory Learning, Post-assessment, Summary) mode is adopted by a growing number of English teachers. This paper tries to illustrate the application of PBL into college English class by studying an instructional design.

The Sobrato Early Academic Language (SEAL) Model Research and Evaluation Final Report is comprised of three sets of studies that took place between 2015 and 2019 to examine the effectiveness of the SEAL Model in 67 schools within 12 districts across the state of California. Over a decade ago, the Sobrato Family Foundation responded to the enduring opportunity gaps and low academic outcomes for the state’s 1.2 million English Learners by investing in the design of the SEAL Model. The SEAL PreK–Grade 3 Model was created as a whole-school initiative to develop students’ language, literacy, and academic skills. The pilot study revealed promising findings, and the large-scale implementation of SEAL was launched in 2013. This report addresses a set of research questions and corresponding studies focused on: 1) the perceptions of school and district-level leaders regarding district and school site implementation of the SEAL Model, 2) teachers’ development and practices, and 3) student outcomes. The report is organized in five sections, within which are twelve research briefs that address the three areas of study. Technical appendices are included in each major section. A developmental evaluation process with mixed methods research design was used to answer the research questions. Key findings indicate that the implementation of the SEAL Model has taken root in many schools and districts where there is evidence of systemic efforts or instructional improvement for the English Learners they serve. In regards to teachers’ development and practices, there were statistically significant increases in the use of research-based practices for English Learners. Teachers indicated a greater sense of efficacy in addressing the needs of this population and believe the model has had a positive impact on their knowledge and skills to support the language and literacy development of PreK- Grade 3 English Learners. Student outcome data reveal that despite SEAL schools averaging higher rates of poverty compared to the statewide rate, SEAL English Learners in grades 2–4 performed comparably or better than California English Learners in developing their English proficiency; additional findings show that an overwhelming majority of SEAL students are rapidly progressing towards proficiency thus preventing them from becoming long-term English Learners. English Learners in bilingual programs advanced in their development of Spanish, while other English Learners suffered from language loss in Spanish. The final section of the report provides considerations and implications for further SEAL replication, sustainability, additional research and policy.

The central thesis of this paper is that e-learning courses can have a significant impact on English language for specific purposes (ESP) proficiency of mining mechanical engineering students. The purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness of ESP Moodle-based course “English for Mining Mechanical Engineers” and to reveal the results of its experimental approbation. In order to identify the lectures’ and learners’ needs we have applied the survey research. The survey confirmed the greatest demand for Moodle courses that include all the elements of a coherent training manual to provide self-development of engineering students. The interview results contributed to design of author’s ESP course syllabus. The importance and originality of this study are that to approbate the course materials’ effectiveness two approaches have been adopted simultaneously. The first is blended learning method based on e-learning platform applied in the experimental group and the second one is classic in-class instructor-led studying used in a control group. Students’ progress in ESP proficiency has been assessed using the cross assessment method. The experiment has validated the initial hypothesis that the special online courses focused on honing foreign language skills and integrated in the domain of specific professional knowledge have a beneficial effect on students’ communicative competencies in general. There were identified the advantages of self-tuition based on Moodle platform. The Moodle course lets the teachers save considerable in-class time to focus more on communicative assignments. The findings of this study have a number of practical implications in ESP online courses development.

The articles were published in English full-text articles only between 2012 and 2022.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess the feasibility of administering the Automated Multiple-Pass Method (AMPM), a widely used tool for collecting 24-hour dietary recalls, in participants’ homes by field interviewers. Design: The design included computer-assisted personal interviews led by either a nutritionist (standard) or field interviewer. Portion estimators tested were a set of three-dimensional food models (standard), a two-dimensional food model booklet, or a tablet with digital images rendered via augmented reality. Setting: Residences in central North Carolina. Participants: English-speaking adults. Pregnant women and individuals who were fasting were excluded. Results: Among 133 interviews, most took place in living rooms (52%) or kitchens (22%). Mean interview time was 40 minutes (range 13–90), with no difference by interviewer type or portion estimator, although timing for nutritionist-led interviews declined significantly over the study period. Forty-five percent of participants referenced items from their homes to facilitate recall and portion estimation. Data entry and post-interview coding was evaluated and determined to be consistent with requirements for the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Values for the number of food items consumed, food groups, energy intake (average of 3,011 kcal for men and 2,105 kcal for women), and key nutrients were determined to be plausible and within reasonably expected ranges regardless of interviewer type or portion estimator used. Conclusions: AMPM dietary recall interviews conducted in the home are feasible and may be preferable to clinical administration because of comfort and the opportunity for participants to access home items for recall. AMPMs administered by field interviewers using the food model booklet produced credible nutrition data that was comparable to AMPMs administered by nutritionists. Training field interviewers in dietary recall and conducting home interviews may be sensible choices for nutrition studies when response rates and cost are concerns.

This research brief presents a case study of an English Learner Improvement Network (ELIN), a group of educators focused on a shared problem of practice in English Learner education and supported through extensive collaboration between researchers and practitioners in English Learner education and Improvement Science. The case study involves an urban school district and a charter organization each serving between 50-80% of students who have ever been English Learners. The research brief identifies five key themes that contribute to knowledge of the English Learner Improvement Networks’ ability to support English Learner improvement: (1) Expert Partnerships Support Improvement; (2) Context Impacts Improvement; (3) Smaller Steps Lead to Larger Changes; (4) Collaborative Coaching Counts; and (5) Teacher Leaders Support Implementation. This ELIN is highlighted as a model of a systemic and coherent approach to educational improvement for ELs through the extensive collaboration provided in English Learner content and Improvement Science process.

Review question / Objective: The aim of this systematic review is to evaluate the effect of dietary supplements on athletic performance in elite soccer players. Eligibility criteria: This review will be conducted based on the PRISMA guidelines and the PICOS approach. Articles were eligible if they were published or in-press in peer-reviewed journals (i.e., abstracts published in conference proceedings, books, theses, and dissertations will not be considered), published in English language with available abstract for screening. The PICOS approach will be established as follows: Population: highly trained or elite, adult (>18 years old) male or female soccer players; Intervention: use of one or more dietary supplements for performance; Comparison: same conditions with placebo or without dietary supplements; Outcome: athletic or soccer-related performance outcomes; Study design: intervention in parallel groups or with crossover, blind or double-blind, and randomized controlled trials (experimental studies).

Eligibility criteria: Studies were considered eligible if they met the following criteria: (1) being an randomized controlled trial published in English, (2) histologically confirmed advanced NSCLC patients, (3) reported OS, PFS, ORR and TRAEs, (4) the intervention group received immune-checkpoint inhibitor plus chemotherapy, while the control group received chemotherapy, (5) When numerous papers reporting the same trial were found, the most current or most complete publications were chosen. Background: The tens of thousands of academic journal websites that are on the Internet today often do not have a clear organizational structure for their website. If most of them are convenient enough for readers (if the journal is open access), then many have problems informing authors about the conditions, the process of submitting and reviewing the manuscript. The Editorial Offices empirically populate the journal's website with content that can change dramatically (both in terms of website design and content) as the journal develops. Aim of Study: To develop a website model for an academic journal that takes into account the basic requirements for the preparation, publication, and archiving of high quality scientific manuscripts. Material and Methods: The academic journal website model is based on a structural-functional approach. The website content consists of text and integrated applications. This model takes into account the basic requirements for the preparation, publication, and archiving of high-quality open access scientific manuscripts, as well as the indexing of journal articles by leading indexing agencies.
