AbstractCulture, mainly defined as values and beliefs, has recently attracted much attention in economics. Cultural practices receive less attention, as emphasized in anthropology. We argue that the notion of ‘ritual’ can enrich economic research on culture as a specific form of socially standardized interactions that create shared contexts and emotions to build mutual trust and community. China is an important case in point, because ritual is a central concern in common interpretations of traditional Chinese culture. We look at practices of Chinese entrepreneurs that activate rituals in various settings. We conclude that these phenomena can be analytically condensed in the cultural complex of a ‘ritual economy’.

Анотація:
Along with the development of modern times, society maintains its tradition as a unique cultural identity, including the phenomenon of rituals that take place under a large tamarind tree which is believed to be the firing of a sacred figure named Mbah Gosang, located in the middle of an urban area, precisely at Peterongan Semarang Market. The focus of the discussion which is the main objective of this research is to interpret the ritual meanings express in the ritual implementation. This research uses the theory of symbolic interactionism in explaining ritual phenomena, which in implication refers to social actions carried out by individuals in representing cultural meanings and symbols around them. The method used in this study is in the form of ethnographic methods, while the source of research data is obtained from participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and literature review. The informants consisted of the caretaker and Mbah Gosang pilgrim who had been directly involved in the implementation of ritual traditions. Based on the results of the study, the phenomenon of rituals carried out under the Mbah Gosang tamarind tree has two forms of cultural traditions in the form of a pilgrimage ritual and suronan ritual which in essence involves Mbah Gosang as an intermediary for prayer or tawassul to God. The series of ritual processions has their own symbolic meaning. Generally, people who carry out these rituals have the motivation to improve the economy, look for prosperity in life, and look for clues in dealing with life problems. The function of the ritual itself is as a form of respect for ancestors, cultural inheritance, forms of effort, reminders of death, and means of social integration, while the purpose of the ritual is to draw closer to God Almighty.

Contemporary sacramental theology construes the sacraments as a symbolic gift exchange between God and humanity; God initiates in the ministry of Jesus Christ, and human beings acknowledge and respond to God’s gift. The gratuity of that initial gift is ensured not only by reference to God’s all-sufficient nature, but also in many cases by excising economic value and economic exchange from the symbolic realm within which the sacramental gift exchange proceeds. This poses an intellectual and a practical problem. Intellectually, economic exchange is fundamentally symbolic and even ritualistic, so that the division between them is difficult to define and maintain. Practically, economic behavior is morally relevant, and the sacraments ought to give some purchase on marketplace behavior. In this essay, anthropological and economic work on “consumption rituals,” based on the work of Mary Douglas and Baron Isherwood, is brought to bear on defining the relationship between sacraments and economic exchange and articulating the sociological preconditions for experiencing market exchange as an extension of sacramental gift exchange.

The aim of this paper is to discuss peace agreements and rituals from the perspective of the history of religions. Hostages, fosterages, intermarriages, and other ritual activities were associated with peacemaking during the Viking Age. These ritual activities will be discussed in relation to a proposed conflict and consensus model on the macro and micro levels, with examples from England and Iceland. The examples include the treaties between the Viking ruler Guthrum and Alfred the Great in the 880s as well as conflicts and agreements in the Landnámabók and the Íslendingabók, in addition to iconography (some archaeological objects) and place names. Through these examples I will present an analysis of peace agreements, or peacemakings, as mutual understandings, as well as power relations within a ritual framework. The agreements in the examples are also seen in relation to other societal activities and forces such as economy, politics, and law. The paper brings together a synthesis of previous research and new readings and interpretations of primary sources.

From the fourth The spiritual values give birth a base philosophical that is humanizing life. Living capable empower individual or group so that they could give contribution good for self alone , others or the community. Penelitian ini dimotivasi oleh konteks sosial masyarakat di Dusun Kusu-Kusu Sereh, Ambon yang memiliki ketidaksetaraan sosial menyangkut tingkat perekonomian. Metode penelitian yang dipergunakan penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif analitis. Data-data yang diperlukan diperoleh dengan teknik wawancara mendalam tidak terstuktur yang didukung dengan pengamatan/observasi partisipasi guna mendukung analisis data. Sedangkan dalam teknik pengambilan sampel, peneliti menggunakan teknik purposive dan snowball. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori konseling masyarakat, konseling social justice, dan teori ritual. Dari hasil temuan-temuan menyangkut ritual musikal totobuang terdapat nilai-nilai spiritual yakni nilai kerukunan, nilai potensi diri, nilai ekonomi kreaktif dan nilai inovasi diri. Dari keempat nilai spiritual tersebut melahirkan sebuah landasan filosofis yakni hidup yang memanusiakan. Hidup yang mampu memberdayakan individu maupun kelompok sehingga mereka dapat memberikan kontribusi baik untuk diri sendiri,orang lain maupun masyarakat. Peneliti juga merekomendasikan untuk penelitian lanjutan dalam pengembangan tulisan ini seperti efektivitas model konseling ritual musikal totobuang yang dapat dijadikan sebagai sebuah pendekatan konseling baru dalam masyarakat. AbstractWater symbolisms permeate Ifugao religion, rituals, and oral tradition. Water plays a part in death, rebirth, and cleansing in Ifugao cosmology. As such, Ifugaos consider water as sacred. However, water is also central in Ifugao economy and politics. As a culture that highly values intensive wet-rice production in a mountain environment, managing access to water is necessary to maintain stability. Ifugao practices follow what Richard O'Connor described as the “agro-cultural complex” in which agricultural practices, social systems, and political, historical, and, cultural changes are understood as interlocking processes (O'Connor 1995). In this paper, we focus on the relationship between Ifugao water and agricultural rituals with the synchronizing and sequencing of agricultural activities. Using the concept of self-organization, we argue that water and agricultural rituals in Ifugao are not only meant to reinforce community cohesion, they also synchronize the farming activities crucial to a terraced ecology. Utilizing the practice of puntunaan (a ritual plot or parcel in the centre of an agricultural district) and the institution of tomona (the ritual leader of an agricultural district) as a case study, we observed that disruptions in the water and rice rituals stimulated great change in Ifugao sociopolitical organization.

The present paper intends to narrate some agricultural rites and rituals, specifically of jhum cultivation of the Nyishi tribe of Arunachal Pradesh, taking Kurung Kumey district as the case study. These rites form the part of ritual cycle and lingering as crucial in the community lives in relation to agriculture. Nyishis, the people belong to one of the major tribal groups of Arunachal Pradesh i.e. Nyishi are dependent on jhumming, wet-rice cultivation, and a cash economy for their subsistence needs. Indeed, for several households, the cash sector is crucial in enabling them to meet their subsistence needs in present day situation. Notwithstanding the extent to which Nyishis are dependent on an external economy, jhum agriculture is regarded as the dominant form of subsistence production within the community. This particular perception of jhumming is based on two factors: first, an understanding that jhum agriculture predates wet-rice agriculture and second, the continuing cultivation of jhum which has ensured the persistence of a religious and ritual life that remains organised around the jhum cycle.

This dissertation explores the blurring of labor and leisure through new technologies, specifically how women are transforming the home into a marketing site — both as sellers of lifestyles and as consumers of market produced goods and narratives. I take up three phenomena that emphasize the spontaneous allure and risk of participating in the aspirational leisure-labor that has resulted from the expansion of work. First, I examine the collective fascination with the hunt for the perfect bridal gown in Say Yes to the Dress — currently running its 17th season — and continued memorialization through the wedding photography featured on the blog Style Me Pretty. Second, I turn to several lifestyle blogs that offer designer-grade Do-It-Yourself projects on a budget and Instagram accounts that adhere to what I coin as a “minimalist, homestead aesthetic.” Third, I turn to Pinterest, the virtual “bookmarking tool” that has taken digital media by storm. Each of these sites offer unique representations of domestic spaces and tasks through public, image-based medias and depict another layer of a re-ritualization of domestic labor. I find that even as capital erodes the domestic sphere, there is a new preoccupation with recovering the home as sacred space through rituals.

Burial Ritual of a Room in the Residential Area "A" at Caral-SupeInformation obtained from a special closed context, a kind of box or little room, built as part of a final entombment of Room 6 located at an excavated module in residential zone A at Caral is presented. The contents reveal cultural and social expressions during the Late Archaic Period related with subsistence, production as well as the prevailing ideology. This context gives an approximated idea of the economic and social activities of this society and how religion influenced in this level of historic-social development in Peru.

Este artículo trata de los peregrinos de la ciudad de Cusco que participan en el juego de miniaturas en el santuario de Qoyllurit’i. Partiendo de una descripción del contexto socioeconómico urbano y de la ontología andina, este trabajo se propone explorar cómo podemos entender el juego, el significado de las miniaturas, y la importancia del peregrinaje en el contexto urbano contemporáneo. Una fuerte motivación para ir a Qoyllurit’i consiste en dar poder a los deseos en la vida y asegurar prosperidad económica para el futuro a través de relaciones recíprocas con lugares y objetos. En estas relaciones, valores como el respeto y la fe son importantes. Utilizando los conceptos analíticos de virtualidad y mímesis, analizo el juego como una forma de comunicación fundamentada en una ontología en la cual no se distingue entre naturaleza-cultura, materia-espíritu, significante-significado. Además, se muestra que las prácticas religiosas indígenas son procesos culturales y materiales que son recreados constantemente en relaciones continuas y recíprocas entre lo rural y lo urbano. El artículo se basa en dos años y dos meses de trabajo de campo etnográfico (2001-2002, 200-2007, 2008) en un pueblo joven de la ciudad de Cusco y en tres peregrinajes a Qoyllurit’i (2002, 2007, 2008).
This article is about the pilgrims from Cusco city who participate in the miniature game in the sanctuary of Qoyllurit’i. Starting with a description of the urban socioeconomic context and the Andean ontology, this text intends to explore how we may understand the game, the meaning of the miniatures, and the importance of the pilgrimage in the contemporary urban context. A strong motivation for going to Qoyllurit’i is to empower the desires of life and ensure economic prosperity for the future through reciprocal relations with places and objects. In these relations, values like respect and faith are important. Using the analytical concepts «virtuality» and «mimesis», the article analyzes the game as a form of communication based in an ontology in which there are no distinctions between nature-culture, signifier-signified, and matter-spirit. Furthermore, it shows that indigenous religious practices are cultural and material processes which are constantly recreated in continuous and reciprocal relations between the rural and the urban. The article is based on two years and two months of ethnographic fieldwork (2001-2002, 200-2007, 2008) in a neighborhood in Cusco city and in three pilgrimages to Qoyllurit’i (2002, 2007, 2008).

L'apparition de l'élevage dans les sociétés néolithiques a été immédiatement mise en relation avec la nécessité de satisfaire les besoins nutritionnels de la population. Cette vision traditionnelle reflète l'interprétation selon laquelle l'animal est envisagé dans une dimension utilitaire comme pourvoyeur de protéines, notamment en viande et en produits secondaires, ainsi que fournisseur d'énergie. Or, de nombreux exemples en ethnologie nous livrent une image différente où l'animal est chargé d'une dimension symbolique, et à qui on accorde un rôle important dans le cadre de la majorité des rituels sociaux et religieux. Dans cette situation, nous pouvons nous demander de quel statut bénéficiaient les animaux domestiques, en particulier le bœuf, et à quoi servait son élevage dans les sociétés de la Préhistoire récente ? Cette problématique est abordée via une confrontation des données issues de l'archéozoologie et les résultats des recherches ethnologiques dans l'esprit de la méthode comparative. L'analyse est menée à travers l'élevage des premières communautés agropastorales en Europe appartenant à la culture à céramique linéaire, le Rubané (5600 — 4900 av. J.-C.)
The appearance of animal husbandry in Neolithic societies was immediately linked to the need to meet the nutritional needs of the population. This traditional view reflects the interpretation according to which the animal is viewed in a utilitarian dimension as a supplier of protein, especially meat and secondary products, as well as a supplier of manual aid. However, many examples in ethnology give us a different image where the animal is charged with a symbolic dimension, and to which an important role is granted in the framework of the majority of social and religious rituals. In this situation, we can ask ourselves what status did domestic animals enjoy, especially cattle, and what was their breeding used for in recent prehistoric societies ? This issue is addressed through a comparison of data from archaeozoology and the results of ethnological research in the spirit of the comparative method. The analysis is carried out through the breeding of the first agro-pastoral communities in Europe belonging to the culture with linear ceramics, the LBK (5600 - 4900 BC)

Este trabalho aborda o Mercosul a partir de distintas iniciativas de políticos e diplomatas implementadas durante o período 1997-1999. Estes atores serão considerados como brokers que tem um papel estratégico na articulação de um novo nível de integração. Os rituais apresentaram-se como uma ferramenta eficaz para explicar as diversas ambiguidades e contradições inerentes ao processo de integração. Trabalharei os diferentes rituais, que estruturam-se em um continuum que vai desde os rituais de agregação aos rituais de poder; desde os mais laxos aos mais rígidos. Os mesmos estruturam as relações entre os brokers, permitem-nos mostrar a passagem da comunidade de argumentação para uma comunidade de comunicação mais ampla e para a construção do Mercosul como comunidade imaginada. Os rituais são analisados como um poderoso veículo de comunicação de conteúdos altamente abstratos, os fazem sensíveis; dão existência simbólica ao projeto político no qual combinam-se regionalização e globalização. Por meio dos rituais se re-cria um poder estrutural, que faz sentir seus efeitos na economia política da região. _____________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
This study analyzes Mercosur starting from different initiatives of politician and diplomats implemented during the period 1997-1999. These actors will be considered as brokers that have a strategic role in the articulation of the new level of integration. Rituals were conceived as an effective tool for explaining the diverse ambiguities and inherent contradictions of the integration process. The different rituals are structured in a continuum that goes from rituals of aggregation to rituals of power; from the very lax to the very rigid. Ritual also structure the relationships among brokers; they allow us to show the passage from a community of argumentation to a broader community of communication and for the construction of Mercosur as an imagined community. Rituals are analyzed as a powerful vehicle of communication of highly abstract content, and they give symbolic existence, make them sensitive to the political project which combines regionalization and globalization. By means of the rituals a structural power is re-created, and its effect on the political economy of the region is felt. _____________________________________________________________________________________________ RESUMEN
Este trabajo aborda el Mercosur a partir de distintas iniciativas de políticos y diplomáticos implementadas durante el periodo 1997-1999. Estos actores serán considerados como brokers que tienen un papel estratégico en la articulación del nuevo nivel de integración. Los rituales se presentaron como una herramienta eficaz para explicar las diversas ambigüedades y contradicciones inherentes al proceso de integración. Trabajaré los diferentes rituales, que se estructuran en un continum que va desde los rituales de agregación a los rituales de poder, desde los más laxos a los más rígidos. Los mismos estructuran las relaciones entre los brokers, nos permiten mostrar el pasaje de la comunidad de argumentación para la comunidad de comunicación más amplia y para la construcción del Mercosur como comunidad imaginada. Los rituales son analizados como un poderoso vehículo de comunicación de contenidos altamente abstractos, los hacen sensibles; dan existencia simbólica al proyecto político en el que se combinan regionalización y globalización. Por medio de los rituales se re-crea un poder estructural, que deja sentir sus efectos en la economía política de la región.

Tem-se observado nas Ãltimas dÃcadas que o modo de produÃÃo capitalista se expandiu no meio rural (seu habitat de origem) numa voracidade sem precedentes, sob a Ãgide da chamada RevoluÃÃo Verde. Referida revoluÃÃo no campo tem concorrido para a modernizaÃÃo da agricultura, implementando prÃticas de monocultura, uso intensivo de produtos quÃmicos na fertilizaÃÃo dos solos e no controle de pragas, melhoramentos genÃticos, dentre outras aÃÃes. No entanto, tal modificaÃÃo tem corroborado para a devastaÃÃo acentuada das Ãreas cultivÃveis, bem como a afetaÃÃo dos ecossistemas locais e tambÃm da saÃde dos agricultores e dos consumidores dessa ânova modalidadeâ de alimentos. It has been observed in recent decades that the capitalist mode of production has expanded in rural places (habitat of origin ) in unprecedented greed, under the aegis of the so called Green Revolution. Referred revolution in the field have contributed to the modernization of agriculture, implementing practices of monoculture, intensive use of chemicals in soil fertilization and pest control, genetic improvements, among other actions. However, such changes have contributed for the devastation of cropland sharp, and the allocation of local ecosystems and also the health of farmers and consumers of this "new type" of food. Moreover, this relentless pursuit of economic growth in rural places, it was found that two entities belonging to the same complex living system and were put into opposing sides: the man (organized in the economy and society) - and nature. There is therefore a clear perception of a critical and alarming that relate, especially when faced with environmental degradation and rampant use of natural resources in order to meet the growing insatiable and unsustainable model of capitalist accumulation. Faced with this scenario over crisis - the environment - such research is launched to perform a descriptive analysis of the experiences of Agroecology and Solidarity Economy of smallholders nesting Santa Rita, located in the municipality of Aratuba within the Environmental Protection Place of Sierra Baturite in the state of CearÃ, seeking to legitimize and find empirical evidence of alternative ways possible , in view of a more harmonious relationship between the economy and nature, from a theoretical approach of Ecological Economics. In view of present and describe such evidence, we have implemented the construction of an index that seek to gauge elements agroecology and solidarity economy practices in agricultural settlement studied , which is called iecosol in order to provide insight to the an analysis whose agenda in predominantly qualitative aspects. Finally, the results obtained in iecosol, it was observed that even before the difficulties faced by small producers in the statement of the elements of alternative economies, such experiences have contributed to the debate and discussion about different feasible production rationality, which recognizes nature as limiting economic relations, especially in rural places, which still exhibit characteristics that favor the practice of relations between these men and with nature, in a more harmonious and less degrading.

AbstractThis chapter examines how Taiwan’s written media justified the state’s introduction of funeral reforms in the second half of the twentieth century. Situating this case study within the broader sociopolitical context of contemporary Taiwan, it illustrates how discourse analysis can be used as a tool for studying change. The state-led reforms induced changes in a field in which religious rituals play an important role, as state authorities operated with priorities differing from ritual practice. Instead, they were concerned with measures for land saving and popularized practices such as cremation or natural burials. The discourse analysis reveals that the justifications brought forward for reforms appeared with a high degree of consistency starting from the late 1970s in Taiwanese press articles. Following Michel Foucault’s understanding of discursive formations, four sub-formations can be distinguished, which all have in common that they are aimed at problematizing ritual practices prevalent at funerals. These sub-formations consisted of considerations concerning the quantitative limits of available cemetery land for graves, arguments referring to the economic advantages of cremation, articulations of the ideal of green cemeteries designed in a park-like fashion, and a critique of geomancy in labeling it superstitious. The discursive voices emerging in the sub-formations were state and local authorities, as well as experts and journalists commenting on reform measures. These priorities and justifications for reforms appeared to be incompatible with religious funeral rituals and are analyzed as changes in terms of a secularization process of Taiwan’s funerary practice. An important finding is that the secular reform measures were, to a large extent, inspired by similar reforms in other regions in the world, and are as such part of a global pattern.

Introduction and Goal. The process of globalization has shifted the world and a lot of things are changing in the tourism field as well, especially in gastronomic tourism. The food is modifying and the trapeze culture, rituals and attitudes that are one of the characteristics of the nation's identity, are facing extinction. The majority of nations are constantly trying to use the natural, historical and cultural resources to maintain their identity. In this context, it is important to successfully develop the gastronomic tourism capabilities. This process is linked to the recent "gastronomic boom". Based on the topic's relevance, we have tried describe the concept of gastronomic tourism and role of gastronomic tourist in the development of country's economy and culture. Theoretical and methodological basis of the research. The theoretical and methodological basis of this research are the contemporary Georgian and foreign scientific works on gastronomic tourism issues, expert evaluations, materials of international conferences dedicated to gastronomic tourism issues, historical and other sources. Results and Implications. Based on the research we have determined the concept of gastronomic tourism with its various forms. The reflexive moment which is one of the most important points in this area, is very evolving, so the scientific part should show more activity towards the topic of tourism, economics and culture. Conclusions. Understanding the gastronomic tourism as an important tourism business and the study of current events in the global world will help to develop gastronomic culture, maintain the identity of the nation, promote gastronomic tourism and enhance the economy of Georgia

The significance of urban water bodies are mainly in two ways: one is to help the survival of the water dependent ecosystem and landscape and the other is to recharge the water beneath the ground. Since ancient times water had a great role in human culture in many ways through rituals and lifestyle, especially in India. Creating huge man made reservoirs, for agriculture and day to day uses. Unfortunately, in recent times anthropogenic activities have created the worst phase of degradation of natural resources and mainly water. So as an urban designer there is a great social responsibility and commitment for building up a better and healthy city have a key role in integrating such natural resources positively with the newly heading urbanized world.In this study an attempt to make a qualitative analysis of the current scenario of urban ponds in Trivandrum has been made.

At the international and national level there is a strong connection between culture and tourism, tourism representing an important factor of the economic development by capitalizing the tourist potential of the cultural elements. Romania has a rich and valuable heritage potential with tourist attractions included on the map of European cultural routes. The challenge for Romania is the weak promotion of the cultural tourism due to the difficulties in developing a better infrastructure for a high accessibility to cultural attractions. The literature offers a wide range of definitions of cultural tourism which emphasize the complexity of this phenomenon. The Romanian literature lacks a thorough documentation on the cultural tourism as a whole, most of studies being concentrated on general approaches i.e. introduction to cultural tourism, analysis of the cultural tourism trends, sustainable development and perspectives, Romanian heritage, promoting strategies. Some papers are concentrated on specific areas of Romania such as Transylvania, with the medieval cities, fortresses and castles, Bucovina, with the painted monasteries and traditional artefacts, Maramureş, with the rural tourism and cultural heritage, as well as Black Sea Coast and Danube Delta. Other papers are related to cultural attractions like museums, orchestra performances, restaurants, hotels in some developed areas, and to traditional or religious rituals, popular art or folklore events in some less developed areas and how they could promote and revive the Romanian tourism or other areas with a low or medium level of capitalization of cultural attractions. Within this broader context, the paper aims to review and discuss the definitions and concepts of cultural tourism in Romania and identify the main types of cultural tourism practiced and addressed by the literature.

National symbols, traditions, and rituals emerge as the most influential signifiers of national identity and nationalism. These symbols and images that embody the basic concepts of nationalism, make them visible to other members of society, help to make abstract ideologies more socially concrete, strengthen the sense of national loyalty and strengthen the awareness of the members of the community that they belong to the same nation. On the other hand, Atatürk appears as a symbol of both Turkey’s modernization process and Turkish unity and solidarity. Focusing on the representations of Atatürk as one of the national symbols on the internet and social media, this research examines symbolic construction of national identity of NGOs that represent different social groups in Turkey through the “November 10, Atatürk Commemoration Day”. In this context, the 10 November 2019 posts of 38 Non-Governmental Organizations, which operate in different fields, are the most followed and have social, cultural, and economic activity on the society, were analyzed on Instagram. Shared visuals were used to categorize with the help of various codes assigned to them. Thematization method was used to characterize the types of photos posted on Instagram with embedded coding. Then, by combining very close codes, they were also subjected to clustering analysis in order to see which symbols are frequently used together and which meaning patterns they form. The findings of the study show that social media, which is often depicted as the space of global identities and flows, is a space where national identities are eclectically reconstructed by subjects and social groups that make up the nation and circulated through symbols.

Interest in energy efficiency continued during the 1980s primarily due to environmental concerns and secondarily because of economic and industrial competitiveness issues. An example of this renewed interest is that the U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) initiated, developed, and implemented a national campaign to save energy now in 2006. In the past, the industrial sector has responded to energy shortages and its price increases with varying effectiveness, but small and medium-sized plants generally lacked the resources to cope effectively. One of the U. S. government’s responses to this situation was to offer these small and medium-sized plants technical assistance such as Industrial Assessment Center (IAC) program. One such center was established at Bradley University in 1993. Since its inception, the Bradley University Industrial Assessment Center (BU IAC) has functioned very successfully. Periodically BU IAC has been doing an in-house critical review of its performance and effectiveness. These reviews included outcomes such as total assessment recommendations, (ARs); diversity of ARs; quantifications of identified opportunities to save energy, minimize waste, and enhance productivity; implementation rates analysis; and impacts on energy engineering education. The purpose of this paper is to describe the impacts of the Industrial Assessment Center program on energy engineering education. The impacts on employment, salaries, and job performance of BU IAC graduates are discussed in this paper. The impacts of the BU IAC in improving the quality of in-class instruction by its Director(s) are explained in this paper.
