Les dons effectués par les entreprises privées auprès d’organismes communautaires à but non lucratif semblent avoir des effets à long terme sur ces derniers. Ces entreprises cherchent à la fois à semer le bien dans les communautés dans lesquelles elles interviennent, mais également à améliorer leur image au sein de celles-ci. Les organismes communautaires oscillent donc entre le devoir de servir leurs usagers du mieux qu’ils le peuvent, en respectant leur mission avec la plus grande diligence, et les nombreuses conditions qui se rattachent aux dons reçus. Ils doivent travailler avec un financement octroyé à court terme, de nombreuses mesures évaluatives ainsi que les volontés de donateurs parfois indiscrets. Il en résulte une identité qui se rapproche de plus en plus de celle des entreprises privées. L’étude dans ce mémoire tente d’évaluer si les usagers des quatre universités principales de Montréal adoptent une identité mercantiliste et comment ils évaluent leur rôle au sein de leurs établissements d’enseignement. Ces étudiants assumeraient un rôle davantage engagé envers les entreprises donatrices, à la fois au sein de leur institution et dans la société en général. Ils revêtiraient une identité conforme à ce qu’attend une entreprise qui effectue un don de manière intéressée en consommant de leurs biens et services.
Donations made by private companies seem to have long term effects on the different receiving non profit organizations. Those companies that want to do what’s best in the communities they support also want to improve their image in those very same communities. Non profit organizations have to juggle between serving the populations while being accounted for their actions before them at the same time they have to conform to certain conditions that accompany corporate donations. They have to work in an environment that involves short term financing, numerous accountability measures imposed by donating companies and far from discreet donators. This results in a business-like identity in non profit organizations that is blurred with corporate discourse, motives and actions. This study tries to evaluate the impact of corporate donations of students from the four main universities in Montreal. These students are likely to buy from donating companies as well as working for them. They also consider themselves more as consumers of university products and services than participants in the development of their institutions. Therefore, they seem to take on an identity that companies want from them because they are getting a financial return on their donations.

Since 1990, development assistance for health has increased approximately 500 per cent. This incredible growth is one concrete manifestation of governments’ recognition of the importance of global health within international politics. It is all the more incredible because it has continued even in times of economic recession and a generalized decrease in foreign assistance by donor states. The increase in funding for global health also demonstrates the changes in the composition of significant actors within international society. No longer solely the province of state governments, global health funding increasingly comes from non-governmental organizations, philanthropic organizations, public–private actors, and even private corporations. The funding priorities also illustrate how international society has conceptualized global health. This chapter examines the changes within global health funding over the past generation and describes the successes and shortcomings of the current funding strategies.

The epilogue discusses recent developments in arts funding and philanthropy. The divergent paths of Rockefeller and Ford—where the former discontinued its arts program and the latter rebranded its cultural work in terms of addressing “inequality”—is a revealing outcome of the increasing social and economic legitimation of arts funding. The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) experienced its first budget cut under President Reagan and then, amidst the culture wars, Congress slashed its budget further. Private contributions have increasingly taken up the slack, but not without their own challenges. New philanthropists are exploring limited liability corporations, donor-advised funds, and metrics and outcomes-based funding. With increasing economic and political inequality and decreasing civic engagement, the government funds foregone because of tax-deductible charitable contributions might be re-evaluated, as well as the ways the federal government may be better suited to provide resources more equitably. An ethics of expertise is now more critical.

Desde que Kroeber y Larco (véase la síntesis de la historia de investigaciones en: Castillo y Donnan 1994, y Shimada 1994) crearon el primer marco cronológico y conceptual para el estudio de las sociedades complejas en la Costa Norte en el Periodo Intermedio Temprano, el conjunto de rasgos estilísticos e · iconográficos, de técnicas y formas arquitectónicas, así como de comportamientos funerarios específicos, denominado Moche o Mochica, fue considerado la expresión material de una sola cultura étnica. Aquella cultura se definía por oposición a las otras de su periodo, como la Virú-Gallinazo, Cajamarca Temprano o la Recuay. Por ello, desde los años 40 hasta hace poco, el juicio que la cerámica mochica, el prinicipal elemento diagnóstico para definir el tiempo, que había seguido la misma secuencia de cambios en todo el área de su dispersión, tuvo carácter del axioma irrefutable. A partir de este supuesto Ford (1949) y Willey (1953) formularon su conocida propuesta sobre el estado expansivo mochica. Conforme con ella, élites guerreras procedentes de los valles de Moche y de Chicama conquistaron áreas adyacentes al sur (valles de Virú, Chao y Santa) llegando hasta Nepeña. La conquista se inicia, supuestamente, en la fases III de Larco (1948), y se expresa, entre otros, en la difusión del estilo corporativo (Moseley 1992) Mochica IV, así como en el ocaso gradual del estilo Virú-Gallinazo. El modelo que acabamos de mencionar sirvió también de punto de partida para reconstruir la organización política mochica.

Background: In two years from now, Qatar will host the 2022 World Cup competition, which requires high level of preparedness and readiness in different sectors including healthcare. Among different subsections of health, the blood bank and the Blood Donor Center will have a major role in this event especially in case of unforeseen incidences. Accordingly, a proper assessment of the current blood resource availability and a prediction of future blood needs helps in overcoming any obstacle that could be faced during the event. Objectives: (1) Highlight the process of the blood supply chain, with a detailed delineation of the needed amount of blood components for both routine and emergency situations services, and outline the proper measures taken to deliver the safest and most appropriate blood units and reduce wastage of blood component. (2) Assess the current standing of the Blood Donor Center and corresponding units in Qatar. (3) Develop a forecast model that predicts the number of blood donors in the next four years as a method to evaluate the readiness of the Blood Donor facility to host the world cup event. (4) Explore the potential challenges that could be faced when meeting the benchmark of donation and established an action plan to overcome these anticipated challenges. Materials and methods: Both qualitative (interviews) and a quantitative (data collection and analysis) approaches have been implemented in our study. We also established a time series forecast model using Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA). Results: The number of donors in the next four years, which is predicted to increase by 26%, will not be able to be accommodated in the current Blood Donor Center facility. Therefore, the established blood stock benchmark will not be met despite that the Center and its corresponding units are fully equipped with high standard equipment and follow international guidelines in the process of blood withdrawal. Conclusion: Infrastructure improvements and logistics support for Hamad Medical Corporation Blood Donor Center are required to support the continuously increasing numbers of blood donors for daily demand and during mega events.

“Social movements” are by definition informal or semi-formal, as opposed to the formal structure of a stable association, such as a club, a corporation, or a political party. They are relatively long lasting over a period of weeks, months, or even years rather than flaring up for a few hours or a few days and then disappearing (Smelser et al., 2020). There is a substantial and growing body of work dedicated to social movements, encompassing a wide range of views about how to define them (Smelser et al., 2020). This is complicated by the use of other terms which shade into the idea of “social movements”, such as grass-roots mobilisation/ movements, non-traditional civil society organisations, voluntary organisations, civic space, new civic activism, active citizenship, to name a few. There is also an implied informality to the term “social movements”, so that the research for this rapid review used both “social movement” and “informal social movement”. Thus this rapid review seeks to find out what approaches do donors use to support “informal social movements” in their programming, and what evidence do they base their strategies on. The evidence found during the course of this rapid review was drawn from both the academic literature, and think-tank and donor reports. The academic literature found was extremely large and predominantly drawn from single case studies around the world, with few comparative studies. The literature on donor approaches found from both donors and think tanks was not consistently referenced to research evidence but tended to be based on interviews with experienced staff and recipients.
