Cette thèse vise à démontrer que les prépositions sont systématiquement utilisées dans les expressions métaphoriques comme toute autre classe de mots. En tant qu'étude exploratoire et basée sur un corpus, ce travail examine toutes les prépositions dans un corpus électronique tiré de tous les discours inauguraux américains. L'analyse révèle une distribution inégale des prépositions, une prévalence de la préposition de, et une tendance à la baisse de l'utilisation de toutes les prépositions. Les prépositions métaphoriques ne se contentent pas de nommer des relations. Au contraire, elles les créent, les structurent et les évaluent. Elles structurent des projections analogiques entre les domaines conceptuels en fonction de leurs relations intrinsèques et schématiques. Elles fusionnent également la métonymie et les métaphores par des intégrations schématiques systématiques. En raison de la centralité de leur profil relationnel, les prépositions doivent être incluses dans les métaphores conceptuelles et les notations abrégées (A Prep B au lieu de A est B). This thesis aims to demonstrate that prepositions are systematically used in metaphorical expressions like any other part of speech. As an exploratory and a corpus-based study, this work examines all the prepositions in an electronic corpus extracted from all the American inaugural addresses. The analysis reveals an uneven distribution of prepositions, a prevalence of the preposition of, and a decreasing trend in the use of all the prepositions. Metaphor-related prepositions do not merely name relationships. Instead, they create, structure, and evaluate them. They structure analogical projections between the conceptual domains based on their intrinsic and schematic relationships. They also blend metonymy and metaphors through systematic schematic integrations. Due to the centrality of their relational profile, prepositions have to be included in conceptual metaphors and shorthand notations (A Prep B instead of A is B). The thesis also suggests a tentative cognitive model in which prepositions determine the conceptual identity and space of the abstract political concepts and entities. As for their diachronic variations, preposition-based metaphors oscillate between stability and change

Following the death of Mao Zedong the new Chinese leadership attempted to avoid some of theproblems associated with the concentration of personal political power, and Deng Xiaoping,though still playing a paramount political role, sought to rule through a leadership collective.Starting with Jiang Zemin, it has become a new norm in Chinese politics that the General Secretaryof the Central Committee of the CCP also serves as President of the PRC.This reemergence of (official) leadership concentration around a single person leads to thequestion of how transitions of leadership are presented within Chinese politics, and to what extentthey are indicative of new directions of policy and ideology. An inaugural speech is designed toset the tone for new beginnings when a new officeholder assumes responsibilities. This thesis usesinaugural speeches and speeches given in connection with inaugurations to the two officesmentioned above as research material to address this question. Drawing inspiration from aMaster’s Thesis by Tawfic and Fattah (2015), perspectives from critical discourse analysis areemployed to examine the relationships between language, power and discourse in the speeches.Focus is placed on the use of two discourse strategies: group orientation and group representation.This thesis assesses to what extent Jiang, Hu and Xi differ in their employment of these discoursestrategies, and if differences or similarities can be explained by correlation with changes in policydirection or the sociopolitical background of the speeches.

Previously threats were conceived as being connected to wars and armed attacks on other countries. But if we observe the world today there are financial situations that, if they got out of hand, could cause severe problems for large parts of a countries population. The environment is another area where severe consequences can be expected. Buzan, Waever and de Wilde (1998:2) work from the premises that security can, and should, be applied to a wider selection of areas in society. From this stand point this Bachelor thesis will cover the discourse of threats in the inaugural addresses of USAs five most recent presidents: Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama and Trump. The inaugural address` were chosen because it is the presidents opportunity to outline their strategy and ‘set the tone’ for their term in office (Brownell 2016).Throughout the analysis there is a focus on the five sections outlined in Buzans (1991:116) analysis model: military, politics, economy, ecology and societal. The analysis frame is based on both traditional realism and more alternative security theory. There is also a comparing element to examine whether there have been any changes in the discourse, connected to threats, since the 9/11 attacks. Furthermore, the study sets out to see if any of the subjects have shown signs of becoming securitized.The result of this study shows that the discourse of threat is mainly focused around the military section. There has been a general increase in the number of threats mentioned since 9/11, although some sections have decreased. Terrorism and immigration are the two questions that meets the criteria to have undergone securitization.

Анотація:
The present study aims at analysing metaphor in the inaugural addresses of American Presidents. It is hypothesised that metaphor is a legitimization strategy which is employed to affect the audience. The research questions were formulated as follows: What conceptual metaphors and their linguistic realizations are used for legitimization in American Presidents’ inaugural addresses and what are their rhetorical implications? The study was carried out within the framework of the Critical Metaphor Theory suggested by Charteris-Black (2005), which is a blend of Conceptual Metaphor Theory and Critical Discourse Analysis. The corpus of the study was compiled of 14 and 16 inaugural addresses delivered by American Presidents affiliated to the Democratic and Republican parties respectively. To achieve the aim the following objectives were set. Firstly, metaphorical expressions were identified and ascribed to the conceptual metaphors they manifest. Secondly, the quantitative analysis was carried out to reveal the frequency of the metaphorical expressions underlying the prevailing conceptual metaphors in the inaugural addresses delivered by the members of both political parties. Finally, the realizations of the conceptual metaphors were contrasted and interpreted across the two political parties. Šis darbas nagrinėja metaforą kaip legitimizacijos strategiją, dominuojančią Amerikos prezidentų inauguracinių kalbų diskurse. Atlikti tyrimai rodo. kad metafora kaip legitimizacijos strategija yra vartojama siekiant daryti įtaką visuomenei. Tyrimui vykdyti buvo suformuoti tokie klausimai: kokios konceptualios metaforos yra vartojamos Amerikos prezidentų inauguracinėse kalbose legitimizacijos tikslais, kokia yra jų lingvistinė raiška ir kokia yra jų retorinė potekstė? Metafora politikoje, būdama šio tyrimo dėmesio centre, atsiduria tarp kognityvinės lingvistikos ir diskurso analizės. Panašu, kad abi šios mokslo sritys prisideda prie metaforų nagrinėjimo politiniame diskurse, sukurdamos aiškesnį jų pobūdžio ir veikimo ypatumų vaizdą. Taigi, šis tyrimas buvo atliktas remiantis Kritinės metaforos teorija, kuri yra Konceptualios metaforos teorijos ir Kritinės diskurso analizės derinys. Konceptualios metaforos teorijos pirmtakai Lakoff ir Johnson (1980: 4) parodė, jog mūsų konceptuali sistema savo prigimtimi yra iš esmės metaforinė. Pronouns carry considerable importance in language. The speaker’s identity and connection to the audience emerges through the consistent use of certain pronouns (De Fina, 1995). This research is about the use of we, us, and our in political discourse. Specifically, their use will be examined in the inaugural addresses of George W. Bush in 2005 and Barack Obama in 2009. The aim of this research is to examine the frequencies and the co-occurrences of these pronouns and then compare their use in these two speeches. More specifically, how do the pronouns examined affect the message and enhance hearer credibility. This is done by applying (a) a quantitative corpus linguistics analysis and (b) qualitative analysis of the context of use. The results show that there is a difference in frequency of pronoun use; however, the usage of pronouns is rather similar in the two speeches

Thinking about the statements is to think about what has been actually said. The statements occupy a place which only belongs to them and exclude all the other possibilities. And they are still capable to constitute many things, including identities. In this assignment, we analyzed how the statements which form the presidential inauguration speeches constitute identities as of the enunciator (the one who occupies, in the moment of the statement, the position – President of the Republic) as of the Brazilian people. For the analyses, we selected two Brazilian historical moments: Military Dictatorship and after-dictatorship. From the first moment, we selected two inauguration statements : Castello Branco (1964), for being the first military to be appointed to president and João Batista Figueiredo (1979) for being the last general who assumed the position in the period, in other words, we selected the beginning and the ending of the militarism. From the second moment we selected three statements: Fernando Collor (1990) for having been the first president elected by the direct vote after the dictatorship, Lula (2003) who represents the first time his party elected a candidate to the function and because of the social claim which he always had and Dilma Rousseff (2011) for having been the first woman elected to the presidency and because she represented the continuation of the last government. For we do these identity analysis, we started from the notion proposed by Michel Foucault and from the notion of identity of Bauman. We worked with the hypothesis that the enunciator when saying his statement launches identities which are fundamental for the maintenance of the Biopower and this is just what we identified. Each one of the statements constitute different identities (although we have found some irregularities like the exaltation of positive and negative aspects) which are reflexes of the emergencies of the society in that social-historical moment and they work as a warranty of the good execution of the proposals of the government.
Pensar nos enunciados é pensar naquilo que foi efetivamente dito. Os enunciados ocupam um lugar que só pertence a eles e exclui todas as outras possibilidades. E ainda são capazes de constituir muitas coisas, inclusive identidades. Neste trabalho, analisamos como os enunciados que formam os pronunciamentos de posse presidencial constituem identidades tanto do eu enunciador (o sujeito que ocupa no momento da enunciação a posição-presidente da República) quanto do povo brasileiro. Para a análise selecionamos dois momentos da história brasileira: a Ditadura Militar e a Pós-ditadura. Do primeiro momento, selecionamos dois pronunciamentos de posse: Castello Branco (1964), por ser o primeiro militar nomeado a presidente e João Baptista Figueiredo (1979) por ser o último general a assumir a posição no período, ou seja, selecionamos a abertura e o fechamento do militarismo. Do segundo momento selecionamos três pronunciamentos: Fernando Collor (1990) por ter sido o primeiro presidente eleito pelo voto direto após o fim da Ditadura, Lula (2003) por representar a primeira vez que o seu partido elegeu um candidato à função e pelo apelo social que sempre teve e Dilma Rousseff (2011) por ter sido a primeira mulher eleita à Presidência e significar uma continuidade do governo anterior. Para fazermos estas análises identitárias, partimos das noções propostas por Michel Foucault e da noção de identidade de Bauman. Trabalhamos com a hipótese de que o eu enunciador ao proferir o seu pronunciamento lança identidades que são fundamentais para a manutenção do Biopoder e é justamente isso que identificamos. Cada um dos pronunciamentos constitui identidades diferentes (embora tenhamos encontrado algumas regularidades, como a exaltação de aspectos positivos e negativos) que são reflexos das emergências da sociedade naquele momento sócio-histórico e funcionam como uma garantia da boa execução das propostas de governo.

Анотація:
AbstractNeglected tropical diseases (NTDs) are so called because they affect the poor people in the low income tropical and subtropical regions of the world which do not draw much global attention. The diseases can be totally cured with adequate clinical interventions; however, their persistence, in spite of the availability of drugs, brought about the dedication of January 30 as a world awareness day to focus on them. This chapter looks into online media reports about the day in Nigeria, the country with 45% of the disease burden in sub-Saharan Africa. A total of 34 reports turned up by a Google search were sampled. Using framing theory, the chapter identifies how the reports, relying on the testimonies of medical experts, rightly highlight poverty as the major driver of the diseases. They are, however, silent about the need to eradicate poverty in order to eradicate the diseases, thus neglecting it (poverty) at a critical point. This creates an amputated frame that does not deliver on how the incidence of the diseases can be holistically tackled. Journalists are urged to conduct independent research when reporting on technical issues in order to complement the testimonies of experts and thus complete their frames.

Анотація:
The article examines certain phenomena, concepts, objects that are inherent in the cultures of different peoples, they are associated with clear historical, geographical, socio-political and other conditions of their existence. The authors analyzed the pre-election, inaugural and post-election types of political speeches of Donald Trump and Barack Obama and described the features of the manifestation of cultural values in the speeches of these politicians. An analysis of the material shows that the speeches of political figures directly reflect the cultural values of the people.
