OBJECT Due to lack of construct stability of the current anterior cervical approaches, supplemental posterior cervical approaches are frequently employed. The use of an anterior-only approach with anterior transpedicular screws (ATPSs) has been proposed as a means of providing 3-column fixation. This study was designed to investigate the feasibility of anterior transpedicular screw (ATPS) fixation of cervical spine, to obtain the morphological measurements for technical prerequisites, and to evaluate the accuracy of the ATPS using fluoroscopy. METHODS The study included both radiological and anatomical investigations. The radiological investigations were based on data from cervical spine CT scans performed in 65 patients. Technical prerequisites of ATPS were calculated using OsiriX for Mac OS. In the anatomical part of the study, 30 pedicles (C3–7) from 6 formalin-preserved cadavers were manually instrumented. Measurements obtained included pedicle width (PW), pedicle height (PH), pedicle transverse angle (PTA), distance of the entry point from the midline (DEPM), and distance of the entry point from the superior endplate (DEPSEP). The authors also analyzed screw position in the manually instrumented vertebrae. RESULTS The mean PW and PH values showed a tendency to increase from C-3 to C-7 in both males and females. The means were significantly larger for both PW and PH in males than in females at all levels (p = 0.001). The overall mean PTA value was significantly lower at C-7 (p < 0.0001). The mean value for the distance of entry point from the midline (DEPM) represented a point at the contralateral side of the pedicle for every level except C-7. The mean DEPSEP values showed significant differences between all levels (p < 0.0001). Seven of the 30 screws were identified as breaching the pedicle (23.3%); these screw malplacements were seen at C-3 (3 screws), C-4 (2 screws), and C-5 (2 screws). CONCLUSIONS The morphological measurements of this study demonstrated that ATPS fixation is feasible in selected cases. They indicate that ATPS insertion using a fluoroscopy-assisted pedicle axis view is safe at the C-6 and C-7 levels, but the results at the other levels did not prove the safety of this technique.

In October, 1797, theindios principalesof the Andean pueblo of Muñani appealed to the royal court in Cusco to depose their governor, orcacica, Doña María Teresa Choquehuanca. Not challenging hereditary Choquehuanca rule, they instead focused on María Teresa's incompetence and her sex, complaining of “the miseries that we have suffered with [her] inappropriate entry into thecacicazgo,” adding that “on account of her distinct sex she should by justice be deposed, because she is not worthy of so estimable an office.” That office was central to the indigenous politics of colonial Peru, the legal and administrative ordering of which placed most of the Indian population in relatively autonomous, land-owning “pueblos de indios” over which the cacique, responsible for collecting the crown's tribute and maintaining order, presided as something between a chief and a lord. As the village leaders in a parallel, popular tradition that reserved its authority for men, Muñani's principales asserted that this bastion of elite indigenous authority ought not be held by a woman. But they made clear that it sometimes was: María Teresa had governed Muñani for five years. Nor was she alone. Cacicas governed pueblos andayllusthroughout the Andes, and it was quite common for the husbands of cacical heiresses to rule in their names.

Deprea (Solanaceae) is a small South American genus of 10 species occurring in Andean areas from Venezuela to Bolivia. The circumscription of Deprea has been repeatedly modified in recent years, with new species being described and others transferred into or out of the genus. The relationships of Deprea to other genera of Solanaceae are still poorly understood, although it seems to be closely related to Larnax. A phylogenetic analysis was performed to test the monophyly of Deprea. Sequences from three molecular markers (nuclear ITS and waxy and chloroplast psbA-trnH) were analyzed by parsimony and Bayesian methods. All the species of Deprea and Larnax sampled were intermixed in a strongly supported clade in the consensus trees, and therefore the currently recognized Deprea species do not form a monophyletic group. At least four strongly supported clades could be recovered within the Deprea + Larnax assemblage, but the affinities of several species of both genera remained unresolved. Additional sampling including the majority of the Deprea + Larnax species and more representatives of genera in the Physalideae should be done to clarify relationships within the clade and to pinpoint the closest relatives of Deprea + Larnax.

The `depmap` package facilitates access in the R environment to the data from the DepMap project, a multi-year collaborative effort by the Broad Institute and Wellcome Sanger Institute, mapping genetic and chemical dependencies and other molecular biological measurements of over 1700 cancer cell lines. The 'depmap' package formats this data to simply the use of popular R data analysis and visualizing tools such as 'dplyr' and 'ggplot2'. In addition, the 'depmap' package utilizes 'ExperimentHub', storing versions of the DepMap data accessible from the Cloud, which may be selectively downloaded, providing a reproducible research framework to support exploiting this data. This paper describes a workflow demonstrating how to access and visualize the DepMap data in R using this package.

Bu çalışmada, betonarme yapılarda, taşıyıcı sistem değişikliklerinin deprem etkisi altında, plastik mafsal teorisine göre yük arttırımı yöntemiyle itme (pushover) analizleri yapılarak söz konusu yapıların davranışları incelenmiştir. Deprem aktivitesi yüksek olan bölgelerdeki betonarme yapıların itme (pushover) analizleri yapılarak yük-deplasman eğrileri elde edilmiş, deprem etkisi altındaki süneklik, rijitlik katsayıları ile yapıların davranışları hakkında belirli saptamalar yapılmıştır. Taşıyıcı sistemdeki kolon ve kirişlerin yanında perdelerin de kullanılmasıyla oluşan yapı titreşim periyotları ve yapı davranışları araştırılmış, yatay yüklerin artışı altında yatay deplasmanların değişimleri incelenmiştir. Yapılan değerlendirmeler ile betonarme yapılar tasarlanırken dikkat edilmesi gereken parametrelerle ilgili tavsiyeler verilmiştir. İncelenen model yapıların her biri için itme analizleri ayrı ayrı yapılmış, hesap adımları belirlenmiştir. Sonrasında çıkan sonuçlara göre deprem etkileri altında söz konusu modellerin süneklikleri, rijitlikleri, deprem davranışları, taban kesme kuvvetleri gibi değerleri ele alınmış ve tartışılmıştır. Sonuç kısmında ise, betonarme yapıların taşıyıcı sistemlerinde perdelerin bulunmasının yapıların deprem davranışlarına etkileri ortaya konarak, yapıların süneklik katsayıları ve deprem yükü azaltma katsayıları gibi parametreler saptanmış ve bunlar tartışılarak sistemlerin dezavantajlı ve avantajlı yanları ortaya konmuştur.

Las necesidades de las personas son muy dinámicas y cambiantes; cada vez requieren de productos y/o servicios más integrales, personalizados y que satisfagan los requerimientos del cliente. Además, las personas tienen una vida cada vez más activa: hoy en día, por lo general, ambos padres de familia trabajan y realizan múltiples actividades, por lo que el tiempo que disponen para realizar y controlar los quehaceres domésticos diarios es reducido. Considerando los niveles de inseguridad y delincuencia que hay en Lima, donde hay robos en todas las zonas y en cualquier momento, la búsqueda de personal de limpieza seguro y confiable para hogares es una tarea bastante exigente; este personal extraño al hogar no solo debe realizar bien su trabajo, sino tener un buen comportamiento durante las horas que pasa en los distintos ambientes de la casa de su empleador. El mercado ofrece distintas opciones como agencias de empleo, que muchas veces no son seguras ni adecuadas ya que no han hecho una evaluación previa de los trabajadores que promueven; además de las referencias o recomendaciones que las persona pueden recibir de su entorno social. Como consecuencia de este análisis se ha identificado que existe la necesidad de un servicio de limpieza para hogares que sea más seguro, dinámico y que facilite a los potenciales clientes la seguridad de contar con personal de servicio seguro y eficiente para que realice estas labores domésticas en horarios flexibles, según las necesidades del cliente. Debido a ello se propone el desarrollo de un negocio en línea, por medio de una plataforma digital (aplicativo móvil), en donde el cliente pueda hacer el pedido y pago de un servicio cómodo, de fácil uso y acceso inmediato en cualquier momento y lugar; lo que permitirá el ahorro de tiempo y tener mayor seguridad de las personas que ingresan al hogar del cliente.

For the X-ray astronomy project Advanced Telescope for High ENergy Astrophysics (Athena) wafer-scale DEpleted P-channel Field Effect Transistor (DEPFET) detectors are proposed as Focal Plane Array (FPA) for the Wide Field Imager (WFI). Prototype structures with different pixel layouts, each consisting of 64 x 64 pixels, were fabricated to study four different DEPFET designs. This thesis reports on the results of the electrical and spectroscopic characterization of the different DEPFET designs. With the electrical qualification measurements the transistor properties of the DEPFET structures are investigated in order to determine whether the design intentions are reflected in the transistor characteristics. In addition, yield and homogeneity of the prototypes can be studied on die, wafer and batch level for further improvement of the production technology with regard to wafer-scale devices. These electrical characterization measurements prove to be a reliable tool to preselect the best detector dies for further integration into full detector systems. The spectroscopic measurements test the dynamic behavior of the designs as well as their spectroscopic performance. In addition, it is revealed how the transistor behavior translates into the detector performance. This thesis, as the first systematic study of different DEPFET designs on die and detector level, shows the limitations of the current DEPFET assessment methods. Thus, it suggests a new concise characterization procedure for DEPFET detectors as well as guidelines for expanded testing in order to increase the general knowledge of the DEPFET. With this study of four different DEPFET variants not only designs suitable for Athena mission have been found but also improvement impulses for the starting wafer-scale device production are provided.

Applications are increasingly hosted on shared, heterogeneous distributed systems. Web applications and “cloud” computing are broad examples of this, but even relatively isolated servers often depend on shared, network-accessible resources. This standardization around service layers abstracts aspects of service delivery, but often entails a large collection of component systems. The complexity that is abstracted from a functional perspective can give rise to runtime issues. Critical issues arising out of this model include resource utilization (sizing, capacity testing, resource monitoring) and dependency management (identifying and monitoring dependencies between components and potential for impact to an application). This thesis presents an automated solution called DepMap for identifying and monitoring file, network and other communication dependencies in applications by analysis of low-level operating system activity. This work is applicable to resource utilization, diagnosis of performance issues, characterization of workloads, and systems management. This thesis discusses DepMap’s requirements, design and implementation, and evaluates the effectiveness and performance on simulated and actual applications. DepMap can be used to create models of system behavior, based both on observations over time and on injection of delays into selected system operations to understand impact to the larger system. When applied to two commercial systems DepMap was able to identify changing dependencies, and to characterize the behavior of network and storage dependencies. On a cluster of systems hosting a web application, DepMap showed unexpected variation in network transmission time between peers in the cluster, and helped to uncover large jumps in system clock times arising from unreliable Network Time Protocol (NTP) services. On a database server that processes hundreds of gigabytes of data each day, DepMap was able to characterize I/O workload to storage connected by Fiber Channel and iSCSI. This work showed that serious performance limitations existed in the storage server due to fragmentation, design assumptions poorly suited to a data warehouse workload, and competition from other storage consumers. This information was used to design and validate a new server/storage platform specifically for this workload. The insight gained by using DepMap in this case has provided dramatically improved performance (10-15x faster throughput for some relevant workloads) and large cost savings relative to other options.
