Energy production is a phenomenon that has always preserved its importance for the history of humanity, as well as where the energy is spent and its consumption are also important. This study examined the causality relationship between Bitcoin energy consumption and Apple, Dell Technologies, Lenova Group, HP, Quanta Computer, Compal Electronics, Canon, Wistron and Hewlett Packard Enterprise has been taken into account to represent technology companies’ stock market. In the analysis, daily price data for the period 12.02.2017-07.02.2021 were used. Toda-Yamamoto (1995) symmetric causality test and Hatemi-J (2012) asymmetric causality test were used for used to determine the relationship between Bitcoin energy consumption and technology companies’ stock values. According to the results of the Toda-Yamamoto (1995) causality test, it has been found that there is a causality from Bitcoin energy consumption to Apple's stock value; according to the Hatemi-J (2012) asymmetric causality test results, it has been determined that there is a causality from Bitcoin energy consumption positive shocks to Apple, Dell Technologies, Lenova Group, HP, Quanta Computer, Compal Electronics, Canon, Wistron and Hewlett Packard Enterprise stock values negative shocks and from Bitcoin energy expenditure negative shocks to Hewlett Packard Enterprise negative shocks. According to the results of the study in general, it is seen that the change in Bitcoin energy consumption has an effect on the firm returns of the companies that sell the necessary tools for bitcoin energy production. From this, it can be commented that bitcoin mining is also effective on the stock returns of technology companies as well as many financial factors.

To investigate the generic features of firm-generated advertisements (FGAs) in cross-cultural contexts, this study analyzed 327 FGAs by Dell Technologies and the Lenovo Group on Twitter and Sina Weibo. Integrating affordances and multimodality into genre analysis, the study showed that the FGAs were characterized by (a) flexible move structure, (b) persuasive language, (c) visual illustration, and (d) hyperlinks, hashtagging (#), and mentioning (@) functions. The FGAs on Sina Weibo, compared with those on Twitter, tended to use more language play, emojis, and contextual product pictures and show more emphasis on the niche of products, incentives, and celebrity endorsement.

Everyday millions of transaction are conducted via the web, all of which fall under the E- Commerce. E-Commerce is about setting the business on the internet, allowing visitors to access the website and go through virtual catalogue of the product and service online. When the visitors want to buy something he or she can add it to their virtual shopping basket. Once all the information is entered, the buying and selling procedure is complete then the customer has to just wait for delivery. Currently there are 05 largest and most famous worldwide internet ratailers: Amazon, Dell, Flip kart, Snap deal and India Mart. With regard to Indian online market this study intends to explore the present situation of E-Commerce in India. It also shows the challenges and opportunities of E-Commerce in India in the prespective of the growing Global Economy. This article contains the secondary data for collection information. The place of the growth of E-commerce in india is satisfactory but slower in camparison to China and the USA. This article axplores the some opportunities which india has already adopted through modern ICTs 4G technologies, available broadband and so many local e-commerce business. But india still faces some basic problems like poor telecom infrastructure no strict legal bans, lack of good attitude towards fast growing technologies and stale academic syllabi regarding e-commerce

<p class="0BodyText">Traditional learning is often delivered as larger courses, requiring more development time, and containing substantial amounts of information. Often, that information is not relevant to the learner and, structured in poor sequence, isn't needed until later in the training (if it is even needed at all). Topic based learning, also often referred to as task-based learning, differs from traditional learning because it focuses on what the learner needs to do, versus what they should know. TBL focuses on providing need to know information, closer to the time of need.</p><p class="0BodyText">This case study shows how using Topic Based Learning, or TBL, improved the learning experience for our Data Protection Certification eLearning course. We’ll also show how it saved not only time for the learners but also time and resources for the Dell Technologies Education Services Department.</p>

A large number of the well-performing organizations in the world are believed to have better environments that produce highly motivated employees to attain their goals. As noted in the various literatures reviewed in this study, improved working conditions in companies, such as Dell Technologies and Apple Inc., are responsible for the overall organizational success within the highly contested market. When employees are motivated, they also work towards improving the conditions within the workplaces, so the relationship between the two is mutual. In addition, pay satisfaction, job design, and internal communication of an organization contributes to its workforce motivation, which results in improved productivity for the entire organization. On the other hand, highly motivated employees encourage organizational managers to offer better payment to their organizations, to attain satisfactory job design, and to improve internal communication. Even though this study utilized few articles in the literature review, its findings significantly contribute to the modern literature. However, future studies should consider using more materials and multiple variables to improve the quality and reliability of the outcomes.

Language teaching represents one of the language sciences that can be regarded as applicative. The teaching of modern languages is a discipline that is intrinsically interconnected with other disciplines and, from the moment it was scientifically recognized on the epistemological level, it has been characterized by a keen interest and affinity towards the technologies. This essay showcases the results of a survey conducted on a sample of teachers on the effects of the pandemic on language teaching in Italy. L’emergenza sanitaria e i bisogni formativi dei docenti di lingua in Italia. La didattica delle lingue rappresenta una delle scienze del linguaggio di carattere applicativo. La glottodidattica inoltre è una disciplina interconnessa intimamente con altri campi del sapere e, fin dai primi momenti di autonomia sul piano dello statuto epistemologico, con la tecnologia. Questo contributo permette di analizzare i risultati di un’indagine condotta su un campione rappresentativo di insegnanti in merito agli effetti della pandemia sull’insegnamento delle lingue in Italia. Every year the amount of generated data grows exponentially which entails an increase in both the number and capacity of data storage systems. The highest capacity is required for data storage systems that are used to store backups and archives, file storages with shared access, testing and development environments, virtual machine storages, corporate or public web services. To solve such tasks, nowadays manufacturers offer three types of storage systems: block and file storages which have already become a standard used for implementing IT infrastructures, and software-defined storage systems. They allow to create data storages on non-specialized equipment, such as a group of x86-64 server nodes managed by general-purpose operating systems. The main feature of software-defined data storages is the transfer of storage functions from the hardware level to the software level where these storage functions are defined not by physical features of the hardware but by the software selected for specific tasks solving. Today there are three main singled out technologies characterized by scalable architecture that allow to in-crease efficiency and storage volume through adding new nodes to a single pool: Ceph, DELL EMC VxFlex OS, HP StoreVirtual VSA. Software-defined data storages have the following advantages: fault tolerance, efficiency, flexibility and economy. Utilization of software-defined storages allows to increase efficiency of IT infrastructure and reduce its maintenance costs; to build a hybrid infrastructure that would allow to use internal and external cloud resources; to increase efficiency of both services and us-ers by providing reliable connection by using the most convenient devices; to build a portal as a single point of services and resources control.

Field laboratories interested in using the MinION often need the internet to perform sample analysis. Thus, the lack of internet connectivity in resource-limited or remote locations renders downstream analysis problematic, resulting in a lack of sample identification in the field. Due to this dependency, field samples are generally transported back to the lab for analysis where internet availability for downstream analysis is available. These logistics problems and the time lost in sample characterization and identification, pose a significant problem for field scientists. To address this limitation, we have developed a stand-alone data analysis packet using open source tools developed by the Nanopore community that does not depend on internet availability. Like Oxford Nanopore Technologies’ (ONT) cloud-based What’s In My Pot (WIMP) software, we developed the offline MinION Detection Software (MINDS) based on the Centrifuge classification engine for rapid species identification. Several online bioinformatics applications have been developed surrounding ONT’s framework for analysis of long reads. We have developed and evaluated an offline real time classification application pipeline using open source tools developed by the Nanopore community that does not depend on internet availability. Our application has been tested on ATCC’s 20 strain even mix whole cell (ATCC MSA-2002) sample. Using the Rapid Sequencing Kit (SQK-RAD004), we were able to identify all 20 organisms at species level. The analysis was performed in 15 min using a Dell Precision 7720 laptop. Our offline downstream bioinformatics application provides a cost-effective option as well as quick turn-around time when analyzing samples in the field, thus enabling researchers to fully utilize ONT’s MinION portability, ease-of-use, and identification capability in remote locations.

Throughout the twentieth century statistical methods have increasingly become part of experimental research. In particular, statistics has made quantification processes meaningful in the soft sciences, which had traditionally relied on activities such as collecting and describing diversity rather than timing variation. The thesis explores this change in relation to agriculture and biology, focusing on analysis of variance and experimental design, the statistical methods developed by the mathematician and geneticist Ronald Aylmer Fisher during the 1920s. The role that Fisher’s methods acquired as tools of scientific research, side by side with the laboratory equipment and the field practices adopted by research workers, is here investigated bottom-up, beginning with the computing instruments and the information technologies that were the tools of the trade for statisticians. Four case studies show under several perspectives the interaction of statistics, computing and information technologies, giving on the one hand an overview of the main tools – mechanical calculators, statistical tables, punched and index cards, standardised forms, digital computers – adopted in the period, and on the other pointing out how these tools complemented each other and were instrumental for the development and dissemination of analysis of variance and experimental design. The period considered is the half-century from the early 1920s to the late 1960s, the institutions investigated are Rothamsted Experimental Station and the Galton Laboratory, and the statisticians examined are Ronald Fisher and Frank Yates.

E' possibile apprendere le funzioni della comunicazione attraverso i videogiochi anche in età adulta? Qual è il valore educativo del gioco? Può uno studente raggiungere gli obiettivi dell'educazione linguistica giocando? Quali sono i principi teorici a favore del gioco? Attraverso alcune riflessioni sull'insegnamento ludico, sulle caratteristiche dei discenti adulti e sui dati raccolti, questa tesi cerca di rispondere a queste domande. Ho creato un breve percorso didattico ipermediale che, sfruttando le tecnologie, cerca di rendere piacevole ed efficace l'apprendimento della lingua italiana. A questo scopo ho costruito un'unità didattica online basata sulla gamification. Utilizzando alcuni videogiochi che ho progettato e realizzato girando e montando video di Venezia, ho raccolto dati per verificare l'efficacia del materiale didattico proposto. Lo studente simula l'esplorazione della città in prima persona attraverso il ruolo di un turista appena arrivato a Venezia che deve raggiungere un certo albergo chiedendo indicazioni stradali. Lo studente deve guidare il turista nel videogioco ascoltando le indicazioni dei passanti e scegliendo dove andare ad ogni punto di diramazione. Questa attività offre allo studente l'opportunità di praticare la comprensione orale a differenza dell'attività successiva in cui lo studente pratica la conversazione nella lingua obiettivo, infatti lo studente assume ora il ruolo di un passante che dà indicazioni al turista.

Transmission welding tests on different eco-sustainable materials were performed using Thulium fiber laser radiation with 2 μm wavelength. All the samples were characterized via infra-red spectroscopy and DSC. The morphology of the materials and the relations between the laser process conditions and the quality of the seam were investigated by means of optical microscopy. Mechanical strength of the weld joints were measured via tensile tests, comparing some of them with different sealing methods and/or original tensile properties of the materials. The morphology of the non-woven material especially plays an important role, compared to the continuous films, as well as the chemical nature of the samples. The experiments demonstrate new application areas of mid-IR fiber laser sources for materials processing.

Heavy metals pollution has become a global problem in all industrialized countries. Since the industrial revolution, a continuous release of heavy metals has led to a severe contamination of the soil. There are many techniques available for the remediation of contaminated soils, that to date represent a constantly evolving field, absorbing a lot of resources for research and development. Phytoremediation is a technique that uses plants to clean up metals and other contaminants from the soil or to make them harmless or less dangerous. Cynara cardunculus L. (cardoon), a perennial species from Asteraceae family, native to Mediterranean countries, is a crop studied as a metal accumulator in several researches. In this work, two experiments were performed to evaluate the effects of Cadmium (Cd) and Arsenic (As) on growth of different cardoon subspecies and to determine if this crop can be used for the remediation of polluted soils, combining this application with energy production. Different As and Cd concentrations were tested in Cynara cardunculus L. var. altilis in Experiment 1, with the aim to study the biological response of cardoon to heavy metals stress. In cardoon, the biomass production and Cd and As concentrations were determined in 4 different stages of the biological cycle in different parts of plant. The results showed that the cardoon was a plant that could tolerate the presence of Cd and As, even in high doses. Under Cd treatment, the Cd concentration decreased in the roots while increased in the leaves over time. Under As treatment, the As concentration in cardoon tissues increased with increasing As concentration; in particular the plants showed a several reduction in the production of biomass and the highest dose of As caused the death of the plants. In the combined Cd and As treatments, the plants improved resistance to As and Cd and the presence of Cd increased the ability of cardoon to tolerate As up to 45 days after artificial contamination. In the second study (Experiment 2), three accessions belonging to var. altilis (Gen 1) and var. sylvestris (Gen 2 and Gen 3) were compared and different concentrations of As, Cd and As+Cd were used. The aim of this work was to assess the concentration and bioaccumulation of As and Cd in the soil and in different parts of the plant, to understand the effects of Cd and As comparing different varieties and genotypes of cardoon plants and to study the specific speciation of As and Cd into plants. The results showed that plants were considerable tolerant to Cd and As, suggesting that this species was able to tolerate low doses of these toxic elements. Moreover, as shown in the values of bioaccumulation factor, cardoon plants had the ability to accumulate large quantities of metal contaminants in its tissue. The results regarding the speciation of As and Cd suggested that exposure of plants to toxic metals appeared to induce the synthesis of sulfur-rich ligands such as phytochelatins, a cysteine-rich oligopeptide, that strongly bound metals. The presence of As upregulated the production of these specific proteins/ligands that bound and traslocated Cd into the plant tissue suggesting that the two metals interacted to magnify phytochelatin production, leading to sequestration of both metals and consequently increasing the tolerance to both. In conclusion cardoon was a plant that could tolerate the presence of heavy metals including Cd and As. The combination of As+Cd treatment, however, increased the resistance of plants allowing them to survive. Furthurmore, Cynara Cardunculus var. sylvestris was the best subspecies that could tolerate high levels of As and Cd in its tissues and bioaccumulate greater concentrations of both metals than var. altilis. It would be useful to continue the trials with the selected Genotype 3 in future works, with the aim to test for more years, its remediation efficiency in polluted soils and exploit its biomass for energy purposes.

Анотація:
The multi-faced evolution of network technologies ranges from big data centers to specialized network infrastructures and protocols for mission-critical operations. For instance, technologies such as Software Defined Networking (SDN) revolutionized the world of static configuration of the network - i.e., by removing the distributed and proprietary configuration of the switched networks - centralizing the control plane. While this disruptive approach is interesting from different points of view, it can introduce new unforeseen vulnerabilities classes. One topic of particular interest in the last years is industrial network security, an interest which started to rise in 2016 with the introduction of the Industry 4.0 (I4.0) movement. Networks that were basically isolated by design are now connected to the internet to collect, archive, and analyze data. While this approach got a lot of momentum due to the predictive maintenance capabilities, these network technologies can be exploited in various ways from a cybersecurity perspective. Some of these technologies lack security measures and can introduce new families of vulnerabilities. On the other side, these networks can be used to enable accurate monitoring, formal verification, or defenses that were not practical before. This thesis explores these two fields: by introducing monitoring, protections, and detection mechanisms where the new network technologies make it feasible; and by demonstrating attacks on practical scenarios related to emerging network infrastructures not protected sufficiently. The goal of this thesis is to highlight this lack of protection in terms of attacks on and possible defenses enabled by emerging technologies. We will pursue this goal by analyzing the aforementioned technologies and by presenting three years of contribution to this field. In conclusion, we will recapitulate the research questions and give answers to them.

A densely built environment is a complex system of infrastructure, nature, and people closely interconnected and interacting. Vehicles, public transport, weather action, and sports activities constitute a manifold set of excitation and degradation sources for civil structures. In this context, operators should consider different factors in a holistic approach for assessing the structural health state. Vibration-based structural health monitoring (SHM) has demonstrated great potential as a decision-supporting tool to schedule maintenance interventions. However, most excitation sources are considered an issue for practical SHM applications since traditional methods are typically based on strict assumptions on input stationarity. Last-generation low-cost sensors present limitations related to a modest sensitivity and high noise floor compared to traditional instrumentation. If these devices are used for SHM in urban scenarios, short vibration recordings collected during high-intensity events and vehicle passage may be the only available datasets with a sufficient signal-to-noise ratio. While researchers have spent efforts to mitigate the effects of short-term phenomena in vibration-based SHM, the ultimate goal of this thesis is to exploit them and obtain valuable information on the structural health state. First, this thesis proposes strategies and algorithms for smart sensors operating individually or in a distributed computing framework to identify damage-sensitive features based on instantaneous modal parameters and influence lines. Ordinary traffic and people activities become essential sources of excitation, while human-powered vehicles, instrumented with smartphones, take the role of roving sensors in crowdsourced monitoring strategies. The technical and computational apparatus is optimized using in-memory computing technologies. Moreover, identifying additional local features can be particularly useful to support the damage assessment of complex structures. Thereby, smart coatings are studied to enable the self-sensing properties of ordinary structural elements. In this context, a machine-learning-aided tomography method is proposed to interpret the data provided by a nanocomposite paint interrogated electrically.

Nowadays the development of real-time ionizing radiation detection system operating over large areas is crucial. Increasing quest for flexible, portable, low cost and low power consumption sensors pushed the scientific community to look for alternative materials and technologies able to fulfill these new requirements. In this thesis the potentiality of organic semiconductors and metal oxides as material platforms for novel ionizing radiation sensors is demonstrated. In particular, organic semiconductors are human tissue-equivalent and this represents a unique and desirable property for the development of dosimeters to be employed in the medical field. The ionizing radiation sensors described in this thesis have been designed, fabricated and characterized during my PhD research and are realized onto polymeric foils leading to flexible devices operating at low voltages, in ambient condition and able to directly detect X-rays, gamma-rays and protons. Following the study of the properties and of the mechanisms of interaction between the radiation and the active layers of the sensors, several strategies have been adopted to enhance the efficiency of these detectors. X-rays dosimeters based on organic semiconductors have been realized presenting record sensitivity values compared with the state of the art for large area radiation detection. The unprecedentedly reported performance led to the possibility to testing these devices in actual medical environments. Moreover, the proof-of-principle demonstration of a dosimetric detection of proton beams by organic-based sensors is reported. Finally, a new sensing platform based on metal oxides is introduced. Combining the advantages of amorphous high mobility oxide semiconductors with a multilayer dielectric, novel devices have been designed, capable of providing a sensitivity one order of magnitude higher than the one shown by the standard RADFETs. Thanks to their unique properties, these sensors have been integrated with a wireless readout system based on a commercial RFID tag and its assessment is presented.

The paper describes a research on Leonardo da Vinci’s activity as a military architect in Piombino, Tuscany, in the early years of the 16th century. These studies use modern digital survey technologies in order to recognize if, in the remains of the town’s defensive system, there are still traces of the intervention carried out in Leonardo’s time, and integrate these data with the analysis of historical-documentary sources and the results of recent archaeological and stratigraphic analyses. The achieved results were finally compared with Leonardo da Vinci’s drawings, obtaining some interesting feedback.

As stated in the specialized studies, the greatest technological discoveries in the history of mankind will be recorded in the next three decades. Progress in Artificial Intelligence (AI), combined with radical discoveries in hard and software, will inaugurate a new era, which today seems to be science fiction. The existence of artificial intelligence, robots, autonomous vehicles, nanotechnology, biotechnology, and materials science are no longer considered "miracles." A recent study by Dell Technologies says that 85% of jobs in 2030 have not yet been invented, and over the next decade, over 10% of current jobs will be automated. In the world's largest industrial air-conditioning plant in China, 800 robots replaced 24,000 workers at Midea. Intelligent military robots are already present on battlefields - the United States, China and Israel, being world leaders in their field use. There are jobs that will disappear and others will be invented, our skills and competences are constantly changing, the labor market is constantly changing, employers will have other specifications in the job description. In this new world, our relationship with technology will change forever. How will we keep up with these changes? How will we deal with them? In this context, we aim to investigate within focus groups what is the impact of accelerated technological progress on youth at the psychological, social and employability level and which would be the solutions that they propose. The target group will be represented by students of the faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technology at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest.

Parlare di recupero e valorizzazione dei centri storici può essere quanto mai attuale in un’epoca in cui, forse per la prima volta, si mettono in discussione alcuni modelli insediativi e di sviluppo volti prevalentemente alla espansione delle aree urbane. A cinquant’anni di distanza da quando si è cominciato a parlare in modo organico di centri storici, in un periodo caratterizzato da una delle più gravi crisi economiche globali dopo quella del 1929, com’è cambiato il rapporto tra le città e i propri Centri Storici? Come sono visti i centri storici da chi li abita e da chi non li abita? Quale può essere allora il ruolo potenziale delle nuove tecnologie per la tutela e la valorizzazione dei Centri Storici? Le nuove tecnologie possono non solamente cambiare significativamente la qualità di chi abita e vive nei centri storici ma anche aumentare la competitività degli stessi, aumentando così la loro capacità di attrarre risorse umane e finanziarie e favorendone lo sviluppo economico e socio-culturale. Tuttavia, come si coniuga il valore della storia con le mutevoli esigenze della vita contemporanea? Quali le potenziali applicazioni delle nuove tecnologie per il miglioramento della vita nei centri antichi? Il Centro Storico costituisce un ambito territoriale estremamente delicato, con una precisa identità urbanistica e un elevato valore storico e testimoniale riferibile sia al tessuto urbano, sia a elementi del patrimonio edilizio di rilevante valore, sia ai suoi abitanti. Ma può in realtà rivelarsi una risorsa importante in un progetto di trasformazione virtuosa dell'intera compagine urbana, rafforzandone sia l'identità propria che la capacità di attrazione verso l'esterno. E le nuove tecnologie in questo progetto possono assumere un ruolo determinante. Talk about recovery and valorisation of the historic centers can be as timely as ever at a time when, perhaps for the first time, are put into question some settlement and development models principally aimed to the expansion of urban areas. After fifty years since it been started talking about in an organic way of historical centers, in a period characterized by one of the most serious global economic crisis after the one of 1929, as the relationship between the city and its historical centers has changed? As the historical centers are seen by those who live there and those who do not live in them? Which then can be the potential role of new technologies for the protection and valorisation of historical centers? The new technologies can not only significantly change the quality whose inhabits and lives in the historic centers but also increase the competitiveness of the same, thus increasing their ability to attract human and financial resources and promoting the economic development and socio-cultural. However, how it combines the value of history with the changing needs of contemporary life? What are the potential applications of new technologies for the improvement of life in the ancient centers? The historical center constitutes a territorial field extremely delicate, with a specific urban identity and an high historical and testimonial value referable both to the urban texture, both to elements the building heritage of significant value, both to its inhabitants. But it can actually become an important resource in a virtuous transformation project of the whole urban structure, strengthening both the its own identity that the attractiveness to the outside. And the new technologies in this project can play a decisive role.

Travel time is probably the most important indicator of the level of service of a highway, and it is also the most appreciated information for its users. Administrations and private companies make increasing efforts to improve its real time estimation. The appearance of new technologies makes the precise measurement of travel times easier than never before. However, direct measurements of travel time are, by nature, outdated in real time, and lack of the desired forecasting capabilities. This paper introduces a new methodology to improve the real time estimation of travel times by using the equipment usually present in most highways, i.e., loop detectors, in combination with Automatic Vehicle Identification or Tracking Technologies. One of the most important features of the method is the usage of cumulative counts at detectors as an input, avoiding the drawbacks of common spot-speed methodologies. Cumulative count curves have great potential for freeway travel time information systems, as they provide spatial measurements and thus allow the calculation of instantaneous travel times. In addition, they exhibit predictive capabilities. Nevertheless, they have not been used extensively mainly because of the error introduced by the accumulation of the detector drift. The proposed methodology solves this problem by correcting the deviations using direct travel time measurements. The legislation evolution and the White Paper 2011 have demonstrated the European intention to re-launch this sector. The challenge is to promote the intermodal transport system to the detriment of road freight transport. In this context intermodal freight terminals, play a primary role for the supply chain, they are the connection point between the various transport nodes and the nodal points where the freight are handled, stored and transferred between different modes to final customer. To achieve the purpose, it is strengthen the improvement of existing intermodal freight terminals and the development of innovative intermodal freight terminals towards higher performance (ERRAC, 2012). Many terminal performances improvements have been proposed and sometime experimented. They are normally basing on combinations of operational measures and innovative technologies (e.g. automatic horizontal and parallel storage and handling, automated gate and sensors for tracking systems data exchange) tested in various terminals, with often-contradictory results. The research work described in this paper (developed within the Capacity4Rail EU project) focusses on the assessment of effects that these innovations can have in the intermodal freight terminals combined in various alternative consistent effective scenarios. The methodological framework setup to assess these innovations is basing on a combination of analytical methods based on sequential algorithms and discrete events simulation models. The output of this assessment method are key performance indicators (KPIs) selected according to terminals typologies and related to different aspects (e.g. management, operation and organization). The present paper illustrates the application of the methodological framework, tuned on the operation of various intermodal terminals, for the validation on today operation and the assessment of possible future scenarios to the case study of the Principe Felipe sea-rail terminal in Valencia.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.4995/CIT2016.2016.3406

Using of new learning and IC technologies is necessary for effective learning of modern students. Their specific educational needs are: using of mobile ICTs, collaboration, challenging tasks and entertainment. Appropriate learning environment should be created to satisfy all these demands. It ought to deal with cloud-based technologies (for 24/7 access, individual and group work according to a personal schedule), augmented reality (for creating of firm links between real and virtual objects), content and language integrated learning (for immersion in an additional language and creation challenging groups and personal tasks in language and non-language subjects). Using these technologies in complex provides social and ICT mobility and creates positive conditions for developing 9 of 10 key competencies. The paper deals with the features, problems and benefits of technologies’ implementation in secondary schools. To sum up, in spite of all difficulties, this environment helps students to get some practical experience in using foreign languages and understanding abstract nature concepts; to develop language and research competencies and to remain motivated (and self-motivated) in learning Science and English.

Cette étude utilise les annonces d’emplois disponibles pour comprendre les besoins des organisations en compétences numériques. L’étude souligne que si les compétences de pointe sont parfois requises, elles sont toutefois éclipsées par les compétences de base, qui semblent manquantes et pourtant nécessaires pour un très grand nombre d’emplois. Les résultats soulignent qu’il faut également penser aux compétences requises au-delà de l’expertise liée aux projets de transformation numérique, pour ensuite assurer l’exploitation de ces activités transformées. Les résultats montrent que les compétences numériques les plus en demande sont celles liées aux outils bureautiques, mais il existe également une demande croissante pour des compétences plus spécialisées en matière de technologies de l'information et de communication.

The inexorable use of electronic technology and rising user expectations of motorised transport are quickly moving the service industry towards a rapidly changing environment. To maintain the ability to deal with new and emerging technologies, industry leaders will need to rethink how they will address their staffing strategies. In this research, we found that the New Zealand automotive service industry is markedly different from what it was twenty years ago as technology in vehicles have been increased due to environmental legislation and customer demands. The service industry is going through a technological revolution as new more environmentally friendly vehicles are introduced into the fleet. Further technological complications are added as vehicle safety is improved through automation of vehicles and soon to become common, fully autonomous vehicles. Service technician training programmes must be modified to ensure that the industry is capable of dealing with high technology vehicles when they come up for service or repair.

Afin de réduire les contacts physiques, la Covid-19 a contraint de nombreuses administrations fiscales à adopter les technologies numériques pour les déclarations fiscales et les paiements d’impôts. Au-delà de la lutte contre la pandémie, la déclaration et le paiement électroniques sont très prometteurs pour faciliter le respect des obligations fiscales, accroître la transparence et réduire les possibilités de collusion (Okunogbe et Santoro, 2021). Eswatini a rendu obligatoire la déclaration électronique pour tous les contribuables à partir de septembre 2020, par le biais de la plateforme d’impôt en ligne (e-Tax). Par la suite, l’administration fiscale a lancé, en avril 2021, une politique visant à éliminer les opérations en espèces pour les paiements d’impôts. Notre étude a évalué l’impact de l’obligation de déclaration électronique sur le comportement des contribuables en matière de déclaration et de paiement, en examinant les questions suivantes : (i) quel est l’impact de l’obligation de déclaration électronique sur la conformité en matière de déclaration et de paiement ? (ii) existe-t-il des effets d’entraînement sur l’exactitude des déclarations et des paiements ? (iii) quels sont les principaux mécanismes qui expliquent les résultats ? This master thesis explores the challenges for waste management business models in the field of textiles regarding the requirements of the circular economy, as well as improvement potentials in the current framework conditions. It is concerned with the research question: "Is it advisable to change the frame-work conditions at meso or macro level, with regard to business models for waste management companies in the textile sector that are oriented towards the requirements of the circular economy, and - if so - in what way?” The approach of the study is based on the delta analysis of the e Society for Institutional Analysis at the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. It compares the target state of the normative requirements with the actual state of the textile and waste management framework conditions and attempts to identify the gaps (the delta). Based on the delta, it develops approaches that are intended to help reduce the gaps. The thesis develops three business models for the target year 2025 in different areas: an exchange platform for sorters, recyclers and designers, an automatic sorting plant and a plant for fibre-to-fibre recycling of mixed materials. It is becoming clear that these business models cannot meet the target requirements for the circular economy. The analysis identifies the remaining gaps in the framework conditions as the main problem. For example, insufficient innovation impulses and the lack of competitiveness of secondary raw materials inhibit the actors from applying and using new technologies and business models. Restricted access to knowledge and information, as well as a lack of transparency between the actors, also prove to be problematic. In order to answer the research question, the study recommends altering the framework conditions at meso and macro level. It proposes a platform for cooperation between designers, the introduction of a material declaration system and an eco-design guideline for textiles as possible development options. In addition, this work offers a matrix of criteria to help the actors test and improve their new waste management business models regarding their suitability for the circular economy. The analysis is carried out from an outsider's perspective on the entire textile industry. It therefore cannot cover and deal with all aspects and individual circumstances of each player in detail. The necessary changes in the framework conditions that have been identified can therefore be used as a basis for further investigations.

Cette étude a tiré parti d’une infrastructure d’encadrement et de collecte de données et de relations préalables légué par le projet Feed the Future Sénégal Naatal Mbay (« agriculture florissante »), financé par l’Agence des États-Unis pour le développement international (USAID) et mis en œuvre par RTI International entre 2015 et 2019. Réalisée en 2020, la recherche a intégré des organisations de producteurs pour qu’elles puissent suivre les ménages ruraux membres de leurs réseaux alors qu’ils faisaient face à la pandémie de COVID-19 et tentaient de réagir à ce choc. Les organisations de producteurs, avec le soutien de RTI et de la société-conseil locale STATINFO, ont réalisé une enquête sur un échantillon de 800 ménages agricoles membres de quatre organisations de producteurs soutenus par Naatal Mbay, réalisée en deux passages successifs, en août et octobre 2020. Des groupes de discussion ont été menés avec les responsables des réseaux, ainsi qu’une collecte de données a posteriori ont permis de contextualiser l’expérience face au choc de la COVID-19 et de valider les conclusions. Les conclusions ont montré que les producteurs étaient déjà aux prises des effets des faibles précipitations de la saison de production de 2019 et que la COVID-19 a aggravé ce premier choc du fait des perturbations des communications et des interdictions de déplacements entre les régions, créant ainsi des pénuries alimentaires et exerçant ainsi une pression sur l’utilisation des stocks de semences à des fins alimentaires. Les effets de l’insécurité alimentaire, mesurés par le biais de l’échelle d’accès d’insécurité alimentaire des ménages, se sont avérés être plus importants pour les ménages de Casamance que pour ceux des régions de Kaolack et de Kaffrine. Les conclusions ont également indiqué que les réseaux de producteurs ont déployé une intervention coordonnée incluant aide alimentaire et accès à des équipements de protection individuelle, distribution de semences de légumes et de céréales à cycle court (par exemple, le niébé et le maïs) et des semences adaptées au jardinage, mesures de protection pour les semences de céréales de l’année suivante et innovations financières avec les banques pour sécuriser les crédits. On s’attend à ce que les stocks d’alimentation soient reconstitués au début de la récolte en octobre 2020 et les réseaux prévoient d’accélérer la multiplication des semences, de diversifier les cultures au-delà des céréales, d’améliorer la communication au sein des réseaux et de généraliser l’accès aux instruments financiers au cours de la saison 2021. Les études ont indiqué que le projet antérieur financé par l’USAID est susceptible d'avoir contribué aux capacités de résilience des réseaux en renforçant le capital social et en encourageant le recours à des technologies et outils nouveaux au cours de ses années de fonctionnement.

La méthode d’évaluation de l’état de préparation est un instrument au niveau macro qui aidera les pays à savoir se situer sur l’échelle de préparation à une mise en œuvre éthique et responsable de l’IA dans l’intérêt de l’ensemble de leurs citoyens, tout en leur indiquant les changements indispensables à apporter sur les plans institutionnels et réglementaires. Les résultats de la méthode d’évaluation de l’état de préparation aideront l’UNESCO à adapter les mesures de renforcement des capacités aux besoins de chacun des pays. « Capacités » désigne ici l’aptitude à évaluer les systèmes d’IA conformément à la Recommandation ainsi que la présence du capital humain, d’infrastructures, de politiques et de réglementations nécessaires et appropriées pour répondre aux défis posés par les technologies de l’IA et à veiller à ce que les personnes et leurs intérêts soient toujours placés au cœur du développement de l’IA. En novembre 2021, les 193 États membres de l’UNESCO ont signé la Recommandation sur l’éthique de l’intelligence artificielle, premier instrument normatif de portée internationale consacré à cette question. La Recommandation établit un cadre opérationnel complet et fondé sur l’ensemble des droits de l’homme en vue du développement et de l’utilisation éthiques de l’IA. Elle accorde à cette fin une attention particulière à tous les stades du cycle de vie du système de l’IA. Au-delà de l'élaboration des valeurs et des principes qui devraient guider la conception, le développement et l'utilisation éthiques de l'IA, la Recommandation indique aux États membres les mesures à prendre pour garantir le respect de ces valeurs et principes en préconisant une réglementation efficace et en formulant des recommandations dans divers domaines stratégiques clés tels que le genre, l’environnement, la communication et l’information. Guidé par ces valeurs, principes et domaines stratégiques, le Secrétariat de l’UNESCO a conçu un programme de mise en œuvre de la Recommandation en s’attachant avant tout à renforcer les capacités nationales nécessaires pour donner suite aux mesures énoncées dans la Recommandation et renforcer les cadres réglementaires. Les Recommandation demande le développement de deux outils clés qui sont les principaux fondements sur lesquels repose la mise en œuvre : la méthode d’évaluation de l’état de préparation et l’évaluation de l’impact éthique. Ces outils visent tous deux à évaluer et à renforcer la résilience des lois, politiques et institutions en vigueur en vue de la mise en œuvre de l’IA dans le pays mais aussi à rendre les systèmes d’IA conformes aux valeurs et aux principes énoncés dans la Recommandation.
