Background Research on disease-disease association (DDA), like comorbidity and complication, provides important insights into disease treatment and drug discovery, and a large body of the literature has been published in the field. However, using current search tools, it is not easy for researchers to retrieve information on the latest DDA findings. First, comorbidity and complication keywords pull up large numbers of PubMed studies. Second, disease is not highlighted in search results. Finally, DDA is not identified, as currently no disease-disease association extraction (DDAE) dataset or tools are available. Objective As there are no available DDAE datasets or tools, this study aimed to develop (1) a DDAE dataset and (2) a neural network model for extracting DDA from the literature. Methods In this study, we formulated DDAE as a supervised machine learning classification problem. To develop the system, we first built a DDAE dataset. We then employed two machine learning models, support vector machine and convolutional neural network, to extract DDA. Furthermore, we evaluated the effect of using the output layer as features of the support vector machine-based model. Finally, we implemented large margin context-aware convolutional neural network architecture to integrate context features and convolutional neural networks through the large margin function. Results Our DDAE dataset consisted of 521 PubMed abstracts. Experiment results showed that the support vector machine-based approach achieved an F1 measure of 80.32%, which is higher than the convolutional neural network-based approach (73.32%). Using the output layer of convolutional neural network as a feature for the support vector machine does not further improve the performance of support vector machine. However, our large margin context-aware-convolutional neural network achieved the highest F1 measure of 84.18% and demonstrated that combining the hinge loss function of support vector machine with a convolutional neural network into a single neural network architecture outperforms other approaches. Conclusions To facilitate the development of text-mining research for DDAE, we developed the first publicly available DDAE dataset consisting of disease mentions, Medical Subject Heading IDs, and relation annotations. We developed different conventional machine learning models and neural network architectures and evaluated their effects on our DDAE dataset. To further improve DDAE performance, we propose an large margin context-aware-convolutional neural network model for DDAE that outperforms other approaches.

The propagation of primary discontinuities in initial value problems for linear delay differential-algebraic equations (DDAEs) is discussed. Based on the (quasi-) Weierstra{\ss} form for regular matrix pencils, a complete characterization of the different propagation types is given and algebraic criteria in terms of the matrices are developed. The analysis, which is based on the method of steps, takes into account all possible inhomogeneities and history functions and thus serves as a worst-case scenario. Moreover, it reveals possible hidden delays in the DDAE and allows to study exponential stability of the DDAE based on the spectral abscissa. The new classification for DDAEs is compared to existing approaches in the literature and the impact of splicing conditions on the classification is studied.

Анотація:

Speech enhancement plays an important role in Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) even though this task remains challenging in real-world scenarios of human-level performance. To cope with this challenge, an explicit denoising framework called Deep Denoising Autoencoder (DDAE) is introduced in this paper. The parameters of DDAE encoder and decoder are optimized based on the backpropagation criterion, where all denoising autoencoders are stacked up instead of recurrent connections. For better speech estimation in real and noisy environments, we include matched and mismatched noisy and clean pairs of speech data to train the DDAE. The DDAE has the ability to achieve optimal results even for a limited amount of training data. Our experimental results show that the proposed DDAE outperformed the baseline algorithms. The DDAE shows superior performances based on three-evaluation metrics in noisy and clean pairs of speech data compared to three baseline algorithms.

Анотація:

Attenuation of seismic random noise is considered an important processing step to enhance the signal-to-noise ratio of seismic data. A new approach is proposed to attenuate random noise based on a deep-denoising autoencoder (DDAE). In this approach, the time-series seismic data are used as an input for the DDAE. The DDAE encodes the input seismic data to multiple levels of abstraction, and then it decodes those levels to reconstruct the seismic signal without noise. The DDAE is pretrained in a supervised way using synthetic data; following this, the pretrained model is used to denoise the field data set in an unsupervised scheme using a new customized loss function. We have assessed the proposed algorithm based on four synthetic data sets and two field examples, and we compare the results with several benchmark algorithms, such as f- x deconvolution ( f- x deconv) and the f- x singular spectrum analysis ( f- x SSA). As a result, our algorithm succeeds in attenuating the random noise in an effective manner.

In hearing aid devices, speech enhancement techniques are a critical component to enable users with hearing loss to attain improved speech quality under noisy conditions. Recently, the deep denoising autoencoder (DDAE) was adopted successfully for recovering the desired speech from noisy observations. However, a single DDAE cannot extract contextual information sufficiently due to the poor generalization in an unknown signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), the local minima, and the fact that the enhanced output shows some residual noise and some level of discontinuity. In this paper, we propose a hybrid approach for hearing aid applications based on two stages: (1) the Wiener filter, which attenuates the noise component and generates a clean speech signal; (2) a composite of three DDAEs with different window lengths, each of which is specialized for a specific enhancement task. Two typical high-frequency hearing loss audiograms were used to test the performance of the approach: Audiogram 1 = (0, 0, 0, 60, 80, 90) and Audiogram 2 = (0, 15, 30, 60, 80, 85). The hearing-aid speech perception index, the hearing-aid speech quality index, and the perceptual evaluation of speech quality were used to evaluate the performance. The experimental results show that the proposed method achieved significantly better results compared with the Wiener filter or a single deep denoising autoencoder alone.

Recently, masked image modeling (MIM) has demonstrated promising prospects in self-supervised representation learning. However, existing MIM frameworks recover all masked patches equivalently, ignoring that the reconstruction difficulty of different patches can vary sharply due to their diverse distance from visible patches. In this paper, we propose a novel deep dynamic supervision to enable MIM methods to dynamically reconstruct patches with different degrees of difficulty at different pretraining phases and depths of the model. Our deep dynamic supervision helps to provide more locality inductive bias for ViTs especially in deep layers, which inherently makes up for the absence of local prior for self-attention mechanism. Built upon the deep dynamic supervision, we propose Deep Dynamic AutoEncoder (DDAE), a simple yet effective MIM framework that utilizes dynamic mechanisms for pixel regression and feature self-distillation simultaneously. Extensive experiments across a variety of vision tasks including ImageNet classification, semantic segmentation on ADE20K and object detection on COCO demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.

Анотація:

Approximate stability analysis of nonlinear delay differential algebraic equations (DDAEs) with periodic coefficients is proposed with a geometric interpretation of evolution of the linearized system. Firstly, a numerical algorithm based on direct integration by expansion in terms of Chebyshev polynomials is derived for linear analysis. The proposed algorithm is shown to have deeper connections with and be computationally less cumbersome than the solution of the underlying semi-explicit system via a similarity transformation. The stability of time periodic DDAE systems is characterized by the spectral radius of a “monodromy matrix”, which is a finite-dimensional approximation of a compact infinite-dimensional operator. The monodromy matrix is essentially a map of the Chebyshev coefficients (or collocation vector) of the state from the delay interval to the next adjacent interval of time. The computations are entirely performed with the original system to avoid cumbersome transformations associated with the semi-explicit form of the system. Next, two computational algorithms, the first based on perturbation series and the second based on Chebyshev spectral collocation, are detailed to obtain solutions of nonlinear DDAEs with periodic coefficients for consistent initial functions.

Over the years, experts have focused their research on ways to increase the executive capacity of university administrators. This is because only by improving the quality of execution of college and university administrative personnel can they actively execute various policies and measures, fully exploit their subjective initiative, and ensure the educational reform of colleges and universities. Increasing the executive capacity of administrative staff can help colleges and universities manage more effectively. Therefore, in the development process of higher education institutions, it is necessary to strengthen the execution of administrative staff, especially the need to adhere to the problem as the basic orientation. Take scientific and practical steps to strengthen administrative personnel’s executive ability in light of current issues with administrative management personnel’s executive power, and establish the groundwork for ensuring the quality of management work. Combining deep learning, this paper proposes a path to improve the executive power of college administrators based on deep learning. To begin, familiarize yourself with the deep noise reduction autoencoder model and support vector regression (SVR) theory and build the DDAE-SVR deep neural network (DNN) model. Then, input a small-scale feature index sample data set and a large-scale short-term traffic flow data set for experiments; then, assess the model’s parameters to achieve the optimal model. Finally, use performance indicators such as MSE and MAPE to compare with other shallow models to verify the effectiveness and advantages of the DDAE-SVR DNN model in the execution improvement path output of university administrators and large-scale data sets.

L'approche de l'entreprise adaptative basée sur la demande (Demand Driven Adaptive Enterprise DDAE), proposée par le Demand Driven Institute (DDI), a suscité un intérêt croissant parmi les universitaires et les professionnels ces dernières années. La présente recherche se penche sur le volet stratégique de ce modèle, spécifiquement sur le processus de planification adaptative des ventes et des opérations (Adaptive Sales and Operations Planning AS&OP). L'AS&OP est supposé procurer aux gestionnaires une visibilité permettant de maîtriser la variabilité, d'améliorer le retour sur investissement et de s'adapter aux fluctuations fréquentes du marché. Bien que ces avantages aient été revendiqués précédemment par d'autres méthodologies, bon nombre d'entre elles n'ont pas réussi à concrétiser ces promesses. En conséquence, l'AS&OP a capté l'attention de nombreux professionnels. Cependant, peu de recherches formelles ont encore validé son efficacité, et aucun outillage opérationnel n'a été établi. Cette thèse de doctorat évalue la pertinence et la portée du processus AS&OP. L'objectif a été de cerner les limitations des méthodes actuelles dans la littérature, et de mettre en avant les perspectives à approfondir, telles que le risque, le flux, la finance, la capacité, le marché, etc., ainsi que les variables décisionnelles, les mécanismes de coordination, les structures organisationnelles, et les indicateurs de performance. En pratique, cette recherche présente le développement d'un système d'aide à la décision AS&OP-DSS (Decision Support System) pour une simulation dynamique, incluant méthodologie et algorithmie associées. En premier lieu, un modèle agrégé de l'approche DDMRP (Demand Driven Requirement Planning) est élaboré et intégré au sein de ce système. Par la suite, une stratégie pour inclure les incertitudes, risques, et opportunités est proposée, tout en évaluant chaque scénario via des indicateurs de performance ad hoc. Ce système propose de faciliter la génération et l'évaluation de scénarios en utilisant une simulation dynamique basée sur la planification scénarisée (What-if). Enfin, la proposition intègre une approche capacitaire de la planification afin de mieux supporter les décisions stratégiques à prendre. Les résultats de cette recherche sont corroborés à chaque étape par des études de terrain, impliquant des entreprises adoptant l'approche DDAE. Ainsi, l'étude est structurée autour de deux axes principaux : une dimension théorique et une dimension pratique
The Demand Driven Adaptive Enterprise (DDAE) approach, proposed by the Demand Driven Institute (DDI), has attracted growing interest among academics and professionals in recent years. The present research focuses on the strategic side of this model, specifically on the Adaptive Sales & Operations Planning (AS&OP) process. AS&OP is supposed to provide managers with visibility to control variability, improve ROI and adapt to frequent market fluctuations. Although these benefits have been claimed previously by other methodologies, many have failed to deliver on these promises. As a result, AS&OP has captured the attention of many professionals. However, little formal research has yet validated its effectiveness, and no operational tools have been established. This doctoral thesis evaluates the relevance and scope of the AS&OP process. The aim has been to identify the limitations of current methods in the literature, and to highlight perspectives to be explored further, such as risk, flow, finance, capacity, market, etc., as well as decision variables, coordination mechanisms, organizational structures, and performance indicators. In practice, this research presents the development of an AS&OP-DSS decision support system for dynamic simulation, including associated methodology and algorithmics. First, an aggregated model of the DDMRP (Demand Driven Requirement Planning) approach is developed and integrated within this system. Subsequently, a strategy for including uncertainties, risks and opportunities is proposed, while evaluating each scenario via ad hoc performance indicators. This system proposes to facilitate scenario generation and evaluation using dynamic simulation based on what-if planning. Finally, the proposal integrates a capability-based approach to planning in order to better support the strategic decisions to be taken. The results of this research are corroborated at each stage by field studies involving companies adopting the DDAE approach. Nitric oxide (NO) is a key physiological messenger, but an excessive production of this molecule can be detrimental, leading to the onset or worsening of many pathological conditions. Dimethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolase (DDAH) is a key enzyme in the NO pathway, involved in the metabolism of asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) and monomethyl arginine (L-NMMA), which are both endogenous inhibitors of NO synthesis. Two isoforms of DDAH have been identified in humans, namely DDAH-1 and DDAH-2. DDAH inhibition represents a promising strategy in the treatment of NO overproduction under pathological conditions without affecting the homeostatic role of this messenger. In this work I described the design and synthesis of 12 novel potential DDAH inhibitors together with the development of a new UPLC-MS based assay to measure the activity of HEK293T cell lysates overexpressing recombinant human DDAH-1 in metabolizing ADMA into dimethylamine and L-citrulline. The same assay was used to assess the potential of the novel compounds, as well as of the well-known DDAH inhibitor L-257, to inhibit DDAH-1 catalyzed L-citrulline formation from ADMA. Three of the novel molecules (compounds 10a, 14a and 14b) showed very interesting inhibitory activity: in particular, the methylacylsulfonamide analogue of L-257 (10a) resulted in 13-fold higher inhibition potency than L-257 itself (98% of inhibition at 1mM, IC50 = 3±3 μM and Ki = 1±0 μM). This molecule was chosen for molecular dynamics simulations to study the putative mechanism for 10a inhibition of DDAH-1 activity. Furthermore, DDAH-1 and DDAH-2 were engineered introducing a FLAG-tag at the C-terminal of the proteins to allow their purification from the lysate components by immunoprecipitation. Although the purification protocol requires some further improvement, the fusion proteins did not show to be functionally affected by the modification.

Distributed digital arrays have many potential applications in radar and communication systems. The objective of this thesis is to re-examine previous research on distributed digital array radar (DDAR) and evaluate several critical aspects of a proposed wireless architecture. Self-standing transmit/receive (T/R) modules are synchronized wirelessly. An important issue addressed in this thesis is whether a simple low-cost synchronization circuit would perform adequately. To this end two breadboard T/R modules were built to support test and evaluation. Both measurements and simulations were performed. In 2008, the Canadian standard for decking installed above ground was revised, and the penetration requirement was eliminated. This decision was based on field test data and fundamental work on mobility of copper in the preservative formulations that dominated the market at the time. Recently the wood protection industry has shown interest in shifting towards carbon-based preservatives. Thus, it is important to test the efficacy of carbon-based preservative formulations as shell-treatments on Canadian wood species. In this study, samples of spruce heartwood were treated with a formulation containing either tebuconazole or didecyldimethylammonium carbonate (DDAC). The treated wood was exposed outdoors for one year and the leachate from these samples was collected. Tebuconazole and DDAC were detected in the leachate collected, and this indicates that these active ingredients were mobile in the wood after treatment. DDAC was detected in very low concentrations on wood surfaces that were untreated before exposure: 0.03 mg DDAC/g of wood and 0.02 mg of DDAC/g wood were measured for the high and low retentions respectively. The concentration of tebuconazole detected was not different from the control samples. This suggests that mobile DDAC may be able to re-deposit in the wood, but tebuconazole does not re-deposit once it is dislodged from the wood. Furthermore, results showed that spores of Gloeophyllum sepiarium and Oligoporus placentus were able to germinate on untreated check surfaces within 2 weeks on samples collected from exposed, treated wood. This indicates that the re-deposited carbon-based active ingredients were not able to protect the untreated check surfaces against germination of basidiospores of some common fungi isolated from above-ground decking in Canada.

Asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) is an endogenous inhibitor of nitric oxide (NO) synthesis and elevated plasma levels associate with poor cardiovascular and renal outcomes. The dimethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolase enzymes (DDAHs; 1 and 2) metabolise ADMA. A DDAH1 gene variant associates with higher kidney tissue mRNA expression, lower plasma ADMA but counter-intuitively, a steeper rate of eGFR decline. This indicates that renal DDAH1 activity may be deleterious and circulating ADMA does not necessarily reflect the NO-ADMA balance (or severity of disease) within kidney tissue. This study tests the hypothesis that reduced renal DDAH1 activity protects against the progression of kidney function decline, independent of circulating ADMA. Renal DDAH1 expression predominates within the proximal tubule. A novel proximal tubule-specific DDAH1 knock-out (PTD1KO) mouse was developed, which demonstrated tubule-specific dysregulation of ADMA and NO that was not evident systemically. Phenotyping studies in PTD1KO mice did not identify consistent alterations of urinary biochemistry at baseline or after salt loading, however, proteomic analysis revealed significant alterations of urinary peptides at baseline; including down-regulation of uromodulin and collagen. At 12 weeks following folate renal injury, the PTD1KO mouse exhibited less kidney function decline, collagen deposition and pro-fibrotic gene expression (Col12alpha, TGFbeta and ET-1) than controls. Furthermore, ADMA and DDAH1 inhibition reduced tubular sodium and fluid reabsorption in rat microperfusion studies, although studies in PTD1KO mice failed to reproduce this effect. Finally, in vitro studies using a PT cell line and primary PT culture indicated an inhibitory effect of ADMA upon PT cell proliferation. Consistent with recent human genetic studies, these data provide experimental evidence indicating a reduction of renal tubule DDAH1 activity can protect against progressive kidney fibrosis and function decline, independent of plasma ADMA. This work provides novel insights into the role of the NO-ADMA-DDAH axis within the kidney, particularly the tubule.

AbstractNondeterministic Discounted-Sum Automata (NDAs) are nondeterministic finite automata equipped with a discounting factor $$\lambda >1$$ λ > 1 , and whose transitions are labelled by weights. The value of a run of an NDA is the discounted sum of the edge weights, where the i-th weight is divided by $$\lambda ^{i}$$ λ i . NDAs are a useful tool for modelling systems where the values of future events are less influential than immediate ones.While several problems are undecidable or open for NDA, their deterministic fragment (DDA) admits more tractable algorithms. Therefore, determinization of NDAs (i.e., deciding if an NDA has a functionally-equivalent DDA) is desirable.Previous works establish that when $$\lambda \in \mathbb {N}$$ λ ∈ N , then every complete NDA, namely an NDA whose states are all accepting and its transition function is complete, is determinizable. This, however, no longer holds when the completeness assumption is dropped.We show that the problem of whether an NDA has an equivalent DDA is decidable when $$\lambda \in \mathbb {N}$$ λ ∈ N (in particular, it is in $$\textsf{EXPSPACE}$$ EXPSPACE and is $$\mathsf {PSPACE-hard}$$ PSPACE - hard ).

Анотація:

Stability theory of Nonlinear Delay Differential Algebraic Equations (DDAE) with periodic coefficients is proposed with a geometric interpretation of the evolution of the linearized system. First, a numerical algorithm based on direct integration by expansion in terms of Chebyshev polynomials is derived for linear analysis. The proposed algorithm is shown to have deeper connections with and computationally less cumbersome than the solution of the underlying semi-explicit system via a similarity transformation. The stability of time periodic DDAE systems is characterized by the spectral radius of a finite dimensional approximation or a “monodromy matrix” of a compact infinite dimensional operator. The monodromy operator is essentially a map of the Chebyshev coefficients of the state form the delay interval to the next adjacent interval of time. The monodromy matrix is obtained by a similarity transformation of the momodromy matrix of the associated semi-explicit system. The computations are entirely performed in the original system form to avoid cumbersome transformations associated with the semi-explicit system. Next, two computational algorithms are detailed for obtaining solutions of nonlinear DDAEs with periodic coefficients for consistent initial functions.

Introdução: O presente trabalho busca relacionar a ocorrência das doenças diarreicas agudas (DDA) com algumas problemáticas existentes na cidade de Tucuruí - Pará, como a falta de saneamento e os decorrentes alagamentos em alguns pontos do município. A doença está relacionada à pobreza e também às condições de moradia, além disso, ainda é a causa de morte de um grande número de pessoas a cada ano que passa, sobretudo de crianças. Objetivo: Por conta disso, o principal objetivo do estudo é analisar os casos de diarreia no período de 2009 a 2019 e comparar com as questões de saneamento. Material e Método: Para tanto, foram analisados os dados dos números de casos de DDA que estão disponíveis no site do Ministério da Saúde e os dados sanitário-ambientais do site do SNIS, ambos de domínio público. Posteriormente, utilizou-se a estatística básica para analisar os dados por meio de gráficos. Por fim, buscou-se nas bibliografias já existentes a relação da doença com as problemáticas citadas. Mediante a análise e comparação percebeu-se que a ocorrência de casos de DDA estava cada vez mais significativa na população tucuruiense. De todos os anos analisados 2013 e 2014 foram os anos que mais tiveram casos. Resultados: Durante o tempo analisado o número de casos da DDA oscilam com quedas em alguns anos e aumento nos outros, mas com números de casos sempre altos e isto foi relacionado com a ingestão de uma água contaminada, e a precariedade dos serviços de saneamento na localidade. Além das questões de saneamento, a doença também tem relação com as questões pluviométricas, porque no período chuvoso, elas afetam as condições de acesso aos serviços de abastecimento de água. Além do mais, as inundações possibilitam a dispersão de contaminantes fecais, aumentando os riscos de surtos de doenças transmitidas pela água. Conclusão: Foi possível concluir que as DDAs se tornaram cada vez mais frequente na população, consequentemente acaba por gerar um custo a mais na área da saúde. Uma das alternativas de minimização da ocorrência dessas doenças seria a melhoria no serviço de abastecimento e distribuição de água vinculadas com campanhas educativas de higienização.

In many cases of drug-induced immunologic thrombocytopenia (DITP), a metabolite, rather than the native drug, is suspected of provoking the destructive drug-dependent antibodies (DDAB) responsible for this severe hemorrhagic disorder. However, this has not previously been investigated for Qn- and Qd-DDAB. We report evidence that the native drugs, and not their metabolites, are the provocative agents in Qn and Qd DITP. Reactions of Qn- and Qd-DDAB with platelets were studied with the native drugs and four of their metabolites: the N-oxide and 10,11-diol derivatives (quinuclidine ring modifications), the des-methyl derivatives (aromatic quinoline ring modification), and 2'-quininone and 2'-quinidinone (2'-oxo derivatives) (also quinoline ring modifications on Qn and Qd, respectively). Five antibodies were studied:two Group 1 DDAB (specific for compounds with native configuration at asymmetric carbon positions), two Group 2 DDAB (similar to Group 1 DDAB but also known to require the methoxy group on the quinuclidine ring for full activity), and one Group 3 DDAB (reactive with the native drug, its stereoisomer, and several nonmetabolic analogs of both compounds) . Using a complement-dependent 51Cr-lysis assay, the reactions of all DDAB with platelets and the four metabolites were similar to 100-fold weaker when compared to reactions obtained with the native drug, with these exceptions:Group 2 DDAB failed to react with the desmethyl and 2'-oxo metabolites and the Group 3 DDAB failed to react with 2'-oxo Qd. This observation shows that the activity of certain DDAB is critically dependent on the native quinoline ring structure. Importantly, none of the DDAB reacted more strongly with any of the metabolites tested when compared with reactions in the presence of the native drug. These findings indicate that DDAB react with platelets preferentially in the presence of the unaltered Qn and Qd molecules and suggest that, while the role of metabolites cannot be entirely ruled out, the native structure of the drug molecule is sufficient to stimulate production of the antibodies responsible for DITP.

There is growing interest in steer-by-wire (SBW) systems because they provide significant benefits to classical vehicles, and are indispensable to autonomous vehicles. However, an emergency backup strategy is needed to steer a vehicle to safety if its SBW actuators fail completely. Differential drive assisted steering (DDAS), which uses torque vectoring to steer a vehicle, has been proposed as a backup strategy for SBW systems. However, vehicle stability control (VSC) — a required feature in most modern vehicles — also relies on torque vectoring. This paper demonstrates, for the first time, through simulations, that conflicts may arise between VSC and DDAS, rendering DDAS ineffective as a SBW system backup strategy. This preliminary study motivates the need to pay attention to, and develop strategies for addressing these conflicts. As an example, the addition of speed control to DDAS is shown as a potential strategy for mitigating these conflicts.

COVID-19 has led to growing dependence on synchronous and asynchronous learning methods. New technologies and software offer both positive and negative implications of knowledge. Some researchers argue that students do not achieve higher level learning in synchronous courses. We have to learn in how to use this technology for effective learning. Universities and academies are now experiencing the influence of synchronous and asynchronous learning methods. Online learning experiences after two years of covid give chance to summarize. This case study explored asynchronous methods derived from experiences in higher education institutions from Bulgaria, Greece, Poland and Romania. In present article presents an analysis of asynchronous learning methods used in the project “Implementation of Digitalization in Defence Higher Education-DDHE”. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate that asynchronous online learning used in DDHE can create a rich cognitive presence capable of supporting learning in military higher education institutions. Asynchronous online learning in DDHE is not just another educational technology to be used as a simple enhancement but introducing the teacher to a higher level of cognitive didactics. DDHE is forcing educators to reflect on the teaching and learning process and what constitutes effective learning.

The doctrine of double effect (DDE) is a long-studied ethical principle that governs when actions that have both positive and negative effects are to be allowed. The goal in this paper is to automate DDE. We briefly present DDE, and use a first-order modal logic, the deontic cognitive event calculus, as our framework to formalize the doctrine. We present formalizations of increasingly stronger versions of the principle, including what is known as the doctrine of triple effect. We then use our framework to simulate successfully scenarios that have been used to test the presence of the principle in human subjects. Our framework can be used in two different modes. One can use it to build DDE-compliant autonomous systems from scratch, or one can use it to verify that a given AI system is DDE-complaint, by applying a DDE layer on an existing system or model. For the latter mode, the underlying AI system can be built using any architecture (planners, deep neural networks, bayesian networks, knowledge-representation systems, or a hybrid); as long as the system exposes a few parameters in its model, such verification is possible. The role of the DDE layer here is akin to a (dynamic or static) software verifier that examines existing software modules. Finally, we end by sketching initial work on how one can apply our DDE layer to the STRIPS-style planning model, and to a modified POMDP model. This is preliminary work to illustrate the feasibility of the second mode, and we hope that our initial sketches can be useful for other researchers in incorporating DDE in their own frameworks.

A Doença Diarreica Aguda (DDA) é uma importante causa de morbimortalidade no Brasil relacionada com condições de vida e saúde precárias. A carência de saneamento básico, a falta de acesso à água tratada e à alimentos seguros estão entre as principais causas de DDA, que atinge principalmente indivíduos em situação de vulnerabilidade. Objetivo: avaliar os casos de DDA notificados no período de 2015 a 2019 na Região Metropolitana da Baixada Santista (RMBS). Metodologia: realizou-se um levantamento de dados secundários dos casos de DDA, a partir de planilhas do Programa de Monitorização das Doenças Diarreicas Agudas (MDDA) do Ministério da Saúde. Resultados: no período de 2015 a 2019 foram notificados 199.193 casos de DDA na RMBS e o número de casos tende a aumentar durante o verão, período com maior índice pluviométrico e com aumento sazonal da população na região. A faixa etária de ≥ 10 anos de idade foi a mais acometida no período e o plano de tratamento A foi o mais empregado. Conclusão: o fornecimento de água tratada e saneamento básico são medidas de prevenção imprescindíveis para a redução dos casos de DDA e contribuem para a redução dos gastos com saúde pública no tratamento desses pacientes. É necessário informar a população sobre a prevenção e tratamento dessas doenças, instruir os profissionais de saúde a identificar os casos de DDA, definir o manejo adequado do paciente e melhorar a notificação dos casos de DDA, a fim de obter dados fidedignos para guiar as ações de saúde.

Анотація:

Abstract In the present work, the inhomogeneous plastic deformation of the compressed Zr-4 alloy with lamellar structure has been studied systematically. In the compression test of Zr-4 alloy with reduction of 70% at 650°C, the severe deformed area (SDA) and difficult deformed area (DDA) formed. The differences in DDA and SDA including microstructure, texture, and mechanical properties were investigated, using electron backscattering diffraction (EBSD) and Vickers hardness tester. The results showed that a large number of equiaxed grains appeared in SDA due to the occurrence of dynamic recrystallization (DRX), while coarse lamellar grains were still the main microstructure in DDA, showing that the DDA was the intermediate between the initial alloy and SDA. Furthermore, the discontinuous recrystallization mechanism was proposed. According to electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) analysis, the predominant texture formed in SDA and DDA made normal direction of its {0001} planes of α phase parallel to the compression direction, and another stronger texture in SDA made the normal direction of part {0001} planes ∼15° away from the compression direction. The observed texture difference in SDA and DDA mainly resulted from the DRXed grains. To evaluate the influence of SDA on the mechanical properties of the Zr-4 alloy, microhardness tests were employed. The alloy in SDA had been proved to be strengthened compared to DDA, which was due to both the grain refinement and the texture diversity.
